Hey! Came upon your blog cause you liked my Andrew VdK posts (thank u btw!!)! You seem to be a german speaker and i'm trying to practice my german. would you have any good german language tv show reccs that i could watch (with subtitles)? Also not to sound needy cause beggars can't be choosers or whatever but i tend to watch more lighthearted/teen drama type stuff than really heavy serious adult dramas but this is not a hard rule!! please ignore this if it's annoying! have a super nice day!!

If you like lighthearted German (teen) dramas, then, oh boy!, I have just the thing for you:

"Türkisch für Anfänger" (teen soap about a German-Turkish patchwork family, it's silly and hilarious and soooo dramatic)

"Schloss Einstein" (still running today show about kids at a German boarding school, literally has the best intro in the world)

"Die Pfefferkörner" (has also been running for generations, it's about a gang of children detectives investigating im Hamburg, also has the best intro in the whole world)

"Doctor's Diary" (Grey's Anatomy but far worse. It's a trainwreck, if you liked desperate housewives you’re gonna love this one)

"Berlin Berlin" (never watched that one personally, but it's about a young woman living in Berlin in her 20s trying to figure out her life)

"Die Wilden Hühner" movies (my personal faves growing up though i prefrr the books; about a group of teen girls who have an old trailer as a group headquarter and chicken in the garden, literally what more do you want 😌)

"Französisch für Anfänger" (i remember so little from this movie but that it's about a boy who cant speak a whim French going on a France exchange to get with a girl. very stupid, very funny, hell of a music track)

"Die Vampirschwestern" movies (literally what it says on the tin, half-vampire sisters trying to figure out teen life, find friends and occasionally fight evil forces. normal stuff, you know)

"Hanni & Nanni" movies (a set of twin girls who get send to boarding school and being very pissed about it until... well, they're not anymore :) there is also an anime, as far as I know it's on youtube, it's so sweet!)

"Heidi" (show out of all shows, isao takahata and hayao miyasaki we're both part in creating it, fuck yeah. story about an orphaned girl who is brought to the alps to live with her grandfather and i dont know how to describe it any further? it's a beautiful heartwearming story with gorgeously animated landscapes. also baby goats.)

🏅 What is something you recently felt proud of in regard to your writing? I am FIGHTING FOR MY LIFE with an overly ambitious fic idea (in terms of scope, not length) and I finally unfucked a crucial scene, I think.

💻 Do you do research for your fics? What’s the deepest dive you’ve done? I LOVE doing research. I think the deepest dive has been that time I was in Vampire Diaries fandom (we're talking like 2012) and I went to a university library to consult some textbooks to write. timetravel fic. Now I'm really enjoying sports RPF land and one of my last fics included me looking up 1) somebody's linkedin 2) some google translating from german 3) web 1.0 sites with photo galleries of hyperlocal local junior competitions. And ofc also academic writing just because :3 I am such a good stalker / scholar.

Book Reviews with Elvira!

For my magic project, I have found a series that we have in the library by a not very well known (Clement used the word 'niche') French vampire named Angèle Chausson. I spent the last week reading the first of her journals. We have the first three, as well as the 8th volumes, and all the most recent volumes (14-16), the last of which published this year, but we do not have journals four through seven or nine through thirteen, sadly.

Journal d'une Sorcière, Volume Un

Based on her own diaries from 1780 to 1785, Journal, Volume Un is a very good look into the process of adjusting to becoming a vampire. Angèle Chausson was born in 1755, and was turned in 1780, when she was 25 years old, which is I think the normal age for most European vampires. There are many examples of vampires turned younger than that (including myself), but I think it is for the most part frowned upon, and only happens in extreme cases. That is off-topic though.

This book was very good, though sometimes slow due to being a journal. Chausson did not start her magic practice until 1784, so I do not think this book will be very helpful for my project, but it gives background to the other journals, so I need to read it anyway. Chausson is very funny and I like the drawings that she includes in the margins of the book. It reminds me of older medieval texts, illuminated manuscripts I think is the name.

I would rate this book 8 out of 10 teeth! Clement has said that he has met Angèle Chausson several times, and would be willing to find her contact information for me. He did say that she does not speak English or German, but I do not speak German, so that does not matter! I do not speak French very well (though I can obviously read it), so Clement would have to translate for us, ha ha.

The youngest Romanov son, Dmitri never had as much pressure put on him as his older siblings and was given a lot of freedom which formed the base of his personality. He is definitely the black horse and rebels often for the hell of it.

He was trained with the Russian military from an early age and is an excellent swordsman/soldier, sometimes acting more like a soldier often forgetting diplomacy and court protecol much preferring to speak his mind. He is hot tempered and can be very reckless to the chagrin of his advisors and the Russian courtiers.

He's never really given much thought to marriage but now that his brother is the Tsar and it is expected for him to marry for the sake of beneficial alliances, he's not too pleased but as a soldier he does have a great understanding of following orders.

WANTED CONNECTIONS

CONFIDANTS/CHOSEN FAMILY ; those he's fought with and spent a lot of his time growing up with during his time in the military - he trusts them and trust is not easy to come by with

BROKEN BETROTHAL: Someone his father was in talks with to arrange a marriage before he died - when the previous Tsar died and Aleksander took over, the discussions and negotiations were halted and cancelled.

CURRENT + PREVIOUS FLINGS: Dmitri was never one to believe in marriage, and he thought he would never have to think about it so he's lived a life of a Grand Duke who cared little for propriety and has had several flings over the years.

CHILDHOOD SWEETHEART; Someone who grew up visiting/spending time with the Romanovs (could be from a close country/their parents could have had some kind of alliance) where they had the chance to meet and connect to the point where everyone who saw them thought they would become sweethearts (maybe they were? open to interpretation of character taking the wc)
