Kali and Poo’s child can become a hazard.
…So where is it now?
(‼️OGREST MANGA SPOILERS‼️)
Warning(s) : mentions of infertility, miscarriage, and sexual assault.
.
.
.
.
.
.
We all know that the gods do not procreate with each other because they know they will create a calamity or a possible monster capable of killing the gods themselves.
Iop had once made the mistake of breaking that rule by drunkenly trespassing in Sadida’s sanctuary and deflowering Lacrima, one of Sadida’s ten divine dolls. Lacrima was a part of Sadida so Iop had essentially done the same thing to Sadida. Therefore, because Lacrima ended up getting pregnant and conceiving a child, Iop impregnated Sadida.
And just like that strict rule predicted, the offspring of two gods resulted in a monstrous child who possessed the power to slay those same gods. This child was named Cornu Mollu.
So what would happen if two demigods got together?
We know what kind of children a demigod would get with a mortal.
Goultard, a demigod iop, is an example of this and we can see how in the Dofus manga, he had many women and numerous children due to his relationships.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But despite growing so many families, the offsprings themselves couldn’t live as long as him. Every year, since their deaths, he goes back to the cemetery to pay respects to his wives and children he had in the past so he would never forget them and would be reminded that they all existed.
We even see in a special episode attributed to him that the kids were simply mortals.
Tumblr media
So children belonging to a demigod and a mortal are either mortals or they can live very long but wouldn’t be labelled as a demigod.
We can also see that it can be possible for demigods to NOT be able to have children with mortals.
Otomaï, a demigod feca, is an example of this case. He once had a mortal woman in his life who was named Merina.
Unlike Goultard’s wives, Merina was the only woman in Otomaï’s life. The two had met at a young age and even went to school together. She would constantly follow him around when he was making his discoveries with science and would admire his knowledge and fascination for these kinds of things.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
She later became a shepherdess and even told Otomaï she wanted to grow a family of their own so they could become the shepherds of their home.
But despite loving one another to the purest level, Merina wasn’t able to conceive a child with Otomaï. No matter how badly Merina wanted a family, their efforts were in vain. Otomaï wasn’t worried about her situation, however. He simply told her that in time, they would eventually have a child.
Tumblr media
Merina's time was running out, unlike Otomaï who had all the time in the world. Therefore, Otomaï made a promise to find a way to make her pregnant, anticipating that with their efforts, they will soon be blessed with a child.
But no matter how hard he tried, he constantly failed over and over again. Merina was never angry at his attempts, however.
At some point in their lives, Merina eventually died of old age without making a family with him.
Otomaï was so distraught by this that he tried transferring her wakfu but to no avail. He even took out her reproductive organs to sew them in Dathura’s stomach in a desperate attempt but with no success.
After Merina's death, Otomaï decided to bury her beneath the shade of a tree. Sometime later, an acorn sprouted from that very tree, which was peculiar since it was the only one that had ever grown on that tree. This occurrence sparked a newfound hope in Otomaï to try again in order to preserve a memory of Merina's life.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After conducting his research and utilizing his alchemy skills along with the power of Merina's acorn, he was able to create Ogrest - a remarkable achievement that showcases the power of combining science and nature.
Otomaï’s story with Merina is possibly one of the only instances where we got to see a demigod unable to reproduce with a mortal. It is uncertain whether Merina's inability to bear children was due to her implied infertility or if Otomaï was the underlying cause. It's also possible that neither of them would have been able to have kids, regardless of who their partner was. The reader is left to draw their own conclusions on this matter.
We have learned two things about a demigod having a child with a mortal based on the cases of Goultard and Otomaï :
1) A demigod can reproduce with a mortal and can either have mortal children or children who can last a bit longer than the average mortal.
2) A demigod can try reproducing with a mortal but can fail no matter how many times they try.
So here’s where we come back to the question that started all of this.
What would happen if TWO demigods got together instead?
Based on my personal observation, there was just one instance in the krosmoz where we got to witness this particular situation unfolding. And that was in the Ogrest manga featuring two specific characters.
Kali and Poo.
Kali and Poo were in a romantic relationship which resulted in Kali becoming pregnant with their child.
Tumblr media
Translation in the red circle.
Kali: “And who are you to tell me that?”
Poo: “The father of the child you’re carrying.”
But there are two issues regarding this peculiar situation.
Number One: Would the child turn out to become a demigod as well?
Number Two: Would it turn into a monster like Cornu Mollu capable of killing divinities?
In volume 4, Kali's stomach does not appear to have any significant pregnancy bump which suggests that she was still in the early stages of her pregnancy. Despite this, she was still able to move around and perform physical activities with ease, including killing people and using their body parts as clothing. This indicates that Kali recently discovered she was pregnant and was still capable of functioning normally during the early stages of her pregnancy. As the child grows, it remains uncertain how they will turn out.
Unfortunately, the Ogrest manga is still not complete but Mig, the illustrator for the manga, has recently been giving little sneak peeks on volume 5 so we will eventually see Kali and Poo again very soon.
Regardless, it still begs the question of what might happen to the future baby.
But what is even more baffling to realize, for those who have read the manga at least, Kali is NOT pregnant in Season 3 and Season 4.
Tumblr media
Her involvement with Poo happened in the Dofus era so we should be able to see the child in the Wakfu era. And yet, we don’t see anything about them. We don’t get a mention of them or if they even exist.
This is rather odd because Kali and Poo were very much always seen together in the fourth volume of the Ogrest manga when they became adults.
So the child should’ve been conceived between the Dofus and Wakfu era right?
Again, if we look at the gods, they strictly do NOT meddle with each other because they are aware of what they can make together.
Poo and Kali don’t seem like they know this fact. Or maybe they simply don't care.
So here are four possibilities I came up with:
1) The child has been conceived but is a demigod sacrier or pandawa and there are no consequences to Kali and Poo’s affair.
2) The child is a mortal sacrier or pandawa but died from old age between the two eras.
3) The child is an actual monster and due to its nature, the brotherhood of the forgotten had to kill it whether Kali and Poo wanted to or not.
4) Kali had a miscarriage because two demigods are not able to fully have a child together.
Personally, I cannot think of any positive outcomes for the child. I think that no matter what happens, it will not be good.

George Barbier, Les Amours pastorales de Daphnis et Chloé, 1918.
The subject of Daphnis and Chloe is distinguished from other Greek novels by its bucolic setting and the constant irony which governs the course of the action.
It is above all their sentimental education which is described throughout the adventures of the novel. The two protagonists live in the countryside, near the city of Mytilene on the islandof Lesbos. Daphnis is a young goatherd, a child found by shepherds (in a laurel grove, hence his name which comes from the ancient Greek δάφνη (daphnè), laurel). Chloé, for her part, is a shepherdess, also a foundling. They grow up in a pastoral setting and fall in love with each other, but multiple twists and turns prevent them from satisfying their love. However, the outcome is a comedy: the two children are recognized by their respective parents, who are rich people from Mytilene, lifelong friends, and who are going to marry them. Large oil on panel European Orientalist portrait from the 19th century depicting a woman at night with her lantern lighting her way. The young woman is depicted in an excellent quality and condition, holding a lantern that illuminates her path while the moon shines in the distance. Superb nighttime/candlelit scene, maybe showing a young shepherdess traversing the desert.

The Narrow Road Between Desires VS The Lightning Tree
I reread both simultaneously to be able to have a more objective opinion on them.
TL;DR the new version of the story adds, on top of the illustrations, several additional scenes and some very welcome revisions. It is a kinder, queerer, and more magical version of the same story. For me it is definitely worth the read!
Spoilers below:
First let's crunch the raw numbers. Based on the audiobook version TLT has an estimated 27,807 words and TNRBD is at 71,760 words, so almost three times at long. The sections in TLT are arranged a bit differently than in TNRBD but I will use them to do a more detailed breakdown below:
TLT:
Morning: The Narrow Road (29p)
TNRBD:
Dawn: Artistry (6p) Morning: Embril (18p) Mid morning: The Narrow Road (40p) Mid-day: Birds (8p)
Total: 72 pages
The same events are covered, but TNRBD expends on Bast and Kote's characterization. I think the story takes place before NOTW btw, because Bast looks intrigued when Kostrel jokingly tells him to write a book if he knows so much. I think that was was made Bast try to have Kote write his memoirs himself, a while before Chronicler ever sets foot in the Waystone Inn.
The order in which Bast does his turns around the tree changes, the breaking way first, then the making way. I'm not sure yet how I interpret that lol.
One of the boys is changed to a girl, and the first secret she gives about a man sleeping with someone who is not his wife implies that it might be an open relationship in this version (everyone knows, including the wife).
A girl named Gretta in TLT is now Grett, and explicitly referred to using they/them.
New divination system introduced, with things called Embrils that Bast uses kinda like runes, to do tosses
Instead of a shepherdess, Bast charms a shepherd (Bi!Bast for the win) who very cutely embroiders stuff on Bast's pants while mending them
The bargain with Kostrel is more complex, touches on Fae magic and debts, and Bast gets tricked into accepting the gift of a penance coin...
When Kostrel asks Bast to describe Emberlee's breast to him, Bast says he will only do it if she gives her permission
When Bast takes his bath, both men and women are watching (in both versions, he very well knows they are there)
---
TLT:
Afternoon: Birds and Bees (32p)
TNRBD:
Mid-day: Birds (continued, 16p) Noon: Obligation (17p) Afternoon: Still (33p) Moonrise: Sweetness (11p) Evening: riddles (7p)
Total: 84 pages
I had forgotten, but TLT already had bits of queerness, namely the little girl who saw "mama kiss the maid", and when Bast goes watch Emberlee bathe, it is strongly implied she was among the women watching him earlier. In TNRBD, that is expended upon.
When the little girl wants to know if her kitten is a boy or a girl, there's this quote that I really liked: Bast would rather tell the bigger truth than the smaller one anyway. "Bows and dresses don't matter much," he said. "She decided she's a girl, so she's a girl."
The girl is also smarter in this version
Rike has a hold on Bast because of the penance coin, so there's a bit of additional plot around that
Rike's sister is named earlier instead of being an afterthought
Bast does some magic on Rike to get rid of his obligation
The description of the still is longer, and the alcohol has a different flavor (no opinion on that but some people might theorize about it lol)
There's a second Embril throw, and Kostrel admits Emberlee told him where she bathed expressly so Bast could find her
Bast, Emberlee, Kholi and Dax (the shepherd) seem to be a polycule and everyone knows haha
Grett is mentioned again, along with "harthan tea" which I assume is fantasy HRT xD
---
TLT:
Evening: Lessons (17p)
TNRBD:
Sunset: lies (17p) Twilight: carrots (1p) Night: demons (15p) Midnight: lessons (11p)
Total: 44 pages
The conclusion to the story has a long additional scene and a few more changes
Instead of Martin punching a tinker because he was assaulting a young girl, he punches the tinker because he had pushed down Old Cob
A scene where Rike washes his face and Bast notices the bruises he has from his father beating him have been moved later in TNRBD
There's a prediction from the Embrils that gets realized here, and the way the narration speaks of Bast and his desires impacting the world feel very reminiscent of TSROST, I wonder if Auri is using Grammarie? Is it just another name for Shaping?
Longer description that empathizes that Bast beat the shit out of Rike's father
There's an entirely new scene of Bast talking to Rike and helping him heal from his terror of becoming an abuser like his dad
I particularly liked that last bit, the story was always a commentary on the cycle of abuse, but this version makes it clear it can be broken. Overall, as I said in the intro, TNRBD is a lot kinder as a story. And meaner towards abusive fathers which is always a plus for me lmao. Bast is made very explicitly queer, as are some of the side characters, and the women are better treated as a whole, with more emphasis on consent. I have to say, in both versions Bast offers to take Kote to where Emberlee bathes, and there's no mention of her agreeing to that, so eh.
But I really appreciate the changes that have been made, and the extra magic. Plus the illustrations are lovely as the moon. I'm even more excited about Doors of Stone now (who knew it was possible lol) because I feel like Pat has grown a lot as a writer since WMF :D

Aiden sighed as he settled back in the grass, basking in the midday sun whilst his horse grazed nearby. After almost a week of camping, he was pretty sure he only had a day, two at most before the Dyn Marv Caravan passed close enough for him to join the clowder for the winter. It was a trick all Cat’s picked up after a couple of years on the path and missed opportunities to go home because you were restless. Pick a stretch of road and hunker down until you hear the calls. They still liked to remind Schrödinger of the year he missed them because he got distracted by a pretty shepherdess and was helping her ‘tend her flock’, as it were.
He smiled to himself as he closed his eyes and started idly listing off the various birds he could hear. Something he’d always found calming. Wood pigeon; obviously. A blue jay, a couple of crows making a din about something further into the trees, a linnet.
He tensed when his sensitive ears picked up a distinctly human call. Somebody somewhere in the woods was singing. Aiden relaxed when it didn’t sound like they were getting any closer (further away if anything) before frowning. He couldn’t make out the words but from tone of voice alone it was apparent his mystery serenader was pissed. He winced in sympathy for whoever or whatever had earned such ire. His musings were interrupted by the sharp crack of wood breaking, followed by the singing rapidly turning into a shriek. He whistled 'stay' at his horse, hoping the flick of an ear was acknowledgment and not a fly before leaping to his feet and grabbing his swords before sprinting in the direction the noise had come from.
The groans of pain and multiple (very creative) curses were both a blessing and a curse. It was providing him with pretty clear directions but who knew what else they’d attract. It wasn’t long before he found their source though. A pit trap, the branches and bracken laid over the top destroyed. He made sure to make his footfalls louder as he approached.
“Hello, is somebody there? Oh Gods, if there is, please be an actual person and not some sort of liche or something.” The voice only sounded slightly shaky, which could just as easily be down to the scent of pain as well as that of fear.
“No Liche around these woods. None I’ve seen anyway.” Aiden said as he peered over the edge. It was deep, and the earthen sides were totally smooth, with not even a decent sized tree root visible, whoever had dug this wasn’t taking any chances.
A young man sat on the pit floor, blinking up at him with wide, blue eyes. A light pack on his back and a lute laying next to him, his hands grasping his left ankle. His gaze fixed on Aiden’s swords from where they peeked over his shoulder, “Wait. Armour, two swords…Witcher?”
Aiden nodded, mentally preparing himself for having to convince him to accept help from him.
“Oh, thank fuck.” The man’s shoulders sagged as he gave a relieved sounding laugh, “For a minute there I thought I was in trouble. Jaskier the Bard.” He inclined his head and Aiden got the impression it would be a full bow if he were standing, “Be a dear and help me out?” Aiden blinked down at him. Shit, he was definitely concussed.
After Jaskier had assured him that no, he hadn’t hit his head, but he had buggered up his ankle somewhat, they came up with a system. Jaskier passed his lute and pack up to Aiden, the Witcher feeling guilt spring up at the flash of pure hurt in the human’s eyes when he half-jokingly asked “’How do you know I won’t just leave you there?” He held his tongue as he hung as far over the edge as he dared and offered Jaskier his hand so he could haul himself out with Aiden’s help. He looked anywhere but at Aiden as he sat and tried to wipe the dust and mud off his bright red doublet. He immediately reminded the Witcher of a cardinal bird.
Aiden cleared his throat awkwardly, “Your ankle, think you can walk on it? I can help you back to your camp or horse if not.”
Jaskier shook his head, “Don’t have either I’m afraid. I’ve been travelling incredibly light as of late, I don’t know if you’ve tried it, but it’s been surprisingly freeing not being weighed down by useless stuff, you know.”
“I wouldn’t exactly call a bedroll useless.”
Jaskier waved a hand, “Debatable. I-fuck!” Aiden caught him by the arm as his ankle immediately buckled underneath him when he tried to stand, “No, walking’s not happening. Sorry.”
“Nothing to apologise for. Lean on me.”
“Where are you taking me?”
Good fucking question, actually.
Aiden really didn’t have time for this. He couldn’t leave a defenceless human hobbling around on an injured leg, but he couldn’t exactly risk an outsider encountering the Caravan either. There was a reason they stayed off the main roads after all. He tried to sketch a basic map in his head: This should be just about manageable.
“My camp. We’ll use my horse to get you to the nearest town and you can make your own way from there yeah? Unless you know of anywhere else nearby, where were you heading?” The nearest town was about a days ride away, if he rode through the night after dropping Jaskier off he should hopefully be back in time to catch the Caravan.
“I…no,” and there was that hurt again, “I have nowhere to be and nowhere to go. Such is the life of travelling Bard.”
“Easy, Sparrow.” Aiden cooed as he helped Jaskier up on the saddle, the Bard holding his lute in his lap and muttering something about how it must be some unspoken Witcher tradition to name your horse after another animal.
“Know many Witchers then?” Aiden asked
“Just the one, we travelled together on and off for a time, he’s a Wolf.” Aiden felt ice go down his spine. Fuck. A certain, tolerable raven head being the exception, if he was going to end up with some possessive fleabag accusing him of kidnapping, Aiden was cutting ties now.
“Where are they now?” Aiden tried to keep his tone light. If Lambert had lost another brother, he wouldn't know until he made it back to his own home for the winter and the thought that Aiden would know before the poor sods family momentarily settled heavily in his chest.
“I don’t actually know. We had a bit of a disagreement a while back. Which school are you by the way, if you don’t mind me asking?”
Aiden fished the snarling cat head from out of his tunic, which was met with raised eyebrows and an “…Ah.”
“Still happy with our plan?”
“Why wouldn’t I be?” Jaskier sounded genuinely confused.
“I can guess what your Wolf told you about my lot. If you’d rather take your chances, I can leave you with some basic supplies.”
“Dear, if I paid attention to every single thing I got told about Witchers, my life would have taken a very different direction. You’ve given me no reason not to trust you so far. So, hop up and let’s go.”
“Self-preservation isn’t a phrase you know very well, is it?”
“We’ve a passing acquaintance at best. Speaking of, may I know the name of my rescuer and escort? Unless you don’t mind me calling you Dear for the entire trip.”
“I’m Aiden.”
Read the rest on my A03!
