💬 "... what is true and what is thought to be true can run side by side, not meeting, staying just ahead of the creeping shadow... But sometimes the silence can be pitiless..." 📚 The Book Stack - September BOM 📘 The Proxy Bride ✒️ Zoe Boccabella 🌶 D.N.F 🌶 Disclaimer: due completely to personal preference I'm keen to find out more about proxy brides back in the days so I thought this will be an interesting read. I was actually enjoying it quite a lot until [around p130] where it transpires that... ****SPOILER**** ****SPOILER**** ****SPOILER**** ****SPOILER**** the characters who fell in [insta] love with each other are married to others... 😒 I'm on holidays and am not keen to explore this one any further so gave it to my friend to read. I believe it's in good hands 🤗 Thank you The Book Stack (bookclub on Facebook) for gifting me a copy of this book. Sorry I just couldn't love it 😔 #theproxybride #zoeboccabella #historicalfiction #aussiereads #aussieauthors #australianwomenwriters #womenslit #dualtime #intergenerational #booksandflowers #booksandteacups #booksofinstagram #TheBookStack #bookstagram #ausbookstagramer #ausbookstagram https://www.instagram.com/p/CjHjfoYLROT/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Book 4 in the 30 Book Challenge
The Bonfire of the Vanities by Tom Wolfe My rating: 5 of 5 stars A fantastic, quick-paced novel that I couldn't put down. Read from a series of clips from the views of many characters, the books builds suspense and humor quickly. Hard to like any of the characters in the this book, but that makes it all the better. A gruesome look at New York society in the eighties with a taste of both Park Ave. and the Bronx on every page. View all my reviews
I need to start choosing shorter books!

"...staying neutral feels like a stupid, blind luxury." 📗 Gone to Ground ✒️ Bronwyn Hall ⚖️⚖️⚖️⚖️ August BOM of The Book Stack. I have just scrolled back to see the last book I read that was part of The Book Stack's picks and um, the last one was for December!! I have tried a couple which I, unfortunately, decided really were not for me. However, this one, I really enjoyed. Don't be deceived by my 4-stars rating. This is a very good rating from me because 5-stars are for those "I will eschew sleep to read all night long to finish"; it's rare. Great pacing, very easily likeable characters (with guts and skillz!), and ooh, those sparks, I feel it! Thoroughly adored reading it front to back and I foresee that this is going to be one of those comfort reads that I can go back to when having a bad day. I just love that the female protagonist is not a swoony one and while she's not without weakness, she is strong and hold up well as part of the team. Of course, the other female supporting cast is just totally kick-ass! Look, just read it, ok?! My thanks to The Book Stack for this paperback copy of this book in exchange of my honest thoughts. #GoneToGround #BronwynHall #TheBookStack #romanticsuspense #aussiereads #Aussieauthors #australianwomenauthors #ausbookstagram #ausbookstagramer https://www.instagram.com/p/Ch14guaL2J9/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Unforgiven by Sarah Barrie ⭐⭐⭐ I feel that I should have enjoyed this book a lot more than I actually did. I just feel that this past couple of months, I just wasn’t loving anything I read so it could be a mini slump or just a terrible mood. From my reading of Unforgiven, I would normally have loved it and could barely put it down but I was just reading a slow chapter by chapter. I loved this idea of 2 protagonists from what seems to be opposite sides of life yet their past connected them deeply and their lives are once more to collide. I couldn’t wait to get to that part of the story where the 2 separate threads start to cross each other. . All characters were easily likeable and I especially loved Lexi’s enterprising neighbour! I did find the crime itself a little hard to read but I appreciate the twist upon twist of who the real villain is at the end. There is one flyaway thread though so I am wondering if there’s supposed to be a sequel. I can’t handle a flyaway thread so here’s hoping for a closure! . My thanks to The Book Stack for this paperback copy of book in exchange of my honest thoughts . #Unforgiven #SarahBarrie #crime #thriller #AussieAuthors #australianwomenauthors #thebookstack #booksandtea #TheBookStack #Decemberbom #aussiebookstagrammer #ausbookishfeautures https://www.instagram.com/p/CYQvefOLkiV/?utm_medium=tumblr

The Fossil Hunter by Tea Cooper 🐚🐚🦗 The Fossil Hunter is November’s BOTM from The Book Stack. I have been meaning to read this author’s works for some time now as I’ve really enjoyed the one short historical romance she wrote. Yet, I haven’t until now! The premise of alternate periods imbued with mystery and set in a familiar regional Australian setting were very interesting to me. . There are 2 main characters, one per time setting, and each are facing their own challenges. Yet, in the end, as past and present collided, they found in each other a kindred spirit. I have found this book to be a very easy read and definitely have enjoyed this spin of fossil hunting. However, I’m left slightly unsatisfied as I found I have questions which weren’t quite answered in the book. . My thanks to The Book Stack for this paperback copy. . PS: How pretty is my new tea set from @theberryteashop 😍💕 . #TheBookStack #TheFossilHunter #TeaCooper #aww2021 #AussieAuthors #australianwomenauthors #historicalfiction #ausbookishfeatures #ausbookstagram https://www.instagram.com/p/CWJ5shQvBpg/?utm_medium=tumblr

Birds of a Feather by Tricia Stringer 🦐🦐🦐🦐 Birds of a Feather is October’s BOTM from The Book Stack. I’m not sure if I would have pick this one up at all if left to my own devices and as it is, I read this in beginning of November! October was one crazy month for me. While cover & description weren’t particularly intriguing to me, I do like the symmetry & colours of the cover and I have previously read a romance book by this author so I jumped in with a certain expectation. There isn’t much romance in this book but what there is, is certainly rather sweet. However, as I step back and mused on the 3 generation of women who aren’t related by blood coming together and being supportive towards each other, I just really love this idea. . Eve, the eldest of the three, is an independent woman and depending on others to help (despite having hurt herself quite badly) is not something that she can accept easily. Add to this is her nemesis who had spread a lie and turned her beloved community against her. She just feels tired. Her help comes in the form of Lucy, a nurse, mother of two, and youngest of the three women. She appears to be very good at her job in caring for Eve and yet, so uptight when it comes to her family and children. In blew, Julia, Eve’s goddaughter, who is in a rather uncertain circumstance and isn’t sure where to turn. As their lives collided, they also colluded and held each other up. . I avoid domestic thriller but I do read a lot of crime novels. This book is neither and yet, I kept expecting something truly terribly crime-y when these women opened up on secrets and hurts they’ve experienced. Even as their hurt is not on the scale of a crime novel, their pains were real and their courage and resilience admirable. Birds of a Feather is an inspiring novel of womanhood, motherhood, sisterhood, and family. . My thanks to The Book Stack for this paperback copy. . #TheBookStack #BirdsofaFeather #TriciaStringer #aww2021 #ausbookstagram #AussieAuthors #australianwomenauthors #womenslit #contemporaryfiction #ausbookishfeatures https://www.instagram.com/p/CV4M93Lvp-D/?utm_medium=tumblr

The Unusual Abduction of Avery Conifer by Ilsa Evans 🦖🦖🦖 My thanks to The Book Stack for this book. It is September BOTM but I only just finished reading last night 😳🙏 🚗 I just love this title; it’s a bit of a mouthful but it does give a little of a comic air so you would expect it to be a humourous tale. The premise itself sounds rather unusually funny and yet, there are some serious themes explored in this light-hearted-sounding novel. You just have to dig deep. These ladies are just such characters, I can’t help but cheer for them throughout so in the end, I rather enjoyed this read.  Full review up on the blog ☝ 🍷 https://facebook.com/groups/TheBookStack 📚 #TheUnusualAbductionofAveryConifer #IlsaEvans #contemporaryfiction #humour #TheBookStack #AussieAuthors #ausbookstagram #ausbookishfeatures #booktopia https://www.instagram.com/p/CU0zJcThDLT/?utm_medium=tumblr

#TheBookStack 's BOTM for August is Tʜᴇ Lᴀsᴛ ᴏꜰ ᴛʜᴇ Aᴘᴘʟᴇ Bʟᴏssᴏᴍ ʙʏ Mᴀʀʏ⁻Lᴏᴜ Sᴛᴇᴘʜᴇɴs 🍎🍎 DNF at halfway... 😭😢 Beautiful book but right now (end of 2nd month of lockdown), I needed a read that's snappy or funny or just plain happy which this book ain't. Too much heartaches for which I'm sure I would normally be fine with as I believe there is a beautiful warm & hopeful ending but at the moment, I just can't put myself through the hard times 😐 💙 𝘔𝘺 𝘢𝘱𝘰𝘭𝘰𝘨𝘪𝘦𝘴 & 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘬𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘉𝘰𝘰𝘬 𝘚𝘵𝘢𝘤𝘬^ 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘱𝘢𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘣𝘢𝘤𝘬 𝘤𝘰𝘱𝘺 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘣𝘰𝘰𝘬 *https://www.facebook.com/BookStackAus/ 💙 #TheLastoftheAppleBlossom #MaryLouStephens #AussieAuthors #aww2021 #australianwomenwriters #historicalfiction #womenslit https://www.instagram.com/p/CTOPuQ3vZJb/?utm_medium=tumblr

🎉Happy Publication Day 🥂 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑶𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓 𝑺𝒊𝒅𝒆 𝒐𝒇 𝑩𝒆𝒂𝒖𝒕𝒊𝒇𝒖𝒍 𝒃𝒚 𝑲𝒊𝒎 𝑳𝒐𝒄𝒌 🐶🐕🐶🐕🐶 I may have started reading The Other Side of Beautiful with a tiny bit of trepidation because her last novel, The Three of Us, was rather hard-hitting (I rated that one 5-stars too) but I’m really not in the mood for that sort of read. However, The Other Side of Beautiful proves to be such a balm in the midst of a lockdown. Being in Mercy’s shoes while she traversed the great Australian landscape, it was truly an escape that I vicariously loved.
