It is not at all necessary to read the first book though it is just as lovely. There was more of a narrative in this one though so I felt that there was a better smoother flow in the telling. Still, it is one that you'd want to read slowly so you can appreciate and absorb the many good bits. With all the beautiful illustrations and lovely short paragraphs, it is easily Re-Read-able. And you'd probably want to to return to for comfort, assurance. In each different phase of life, you'd glean something different each time. So many brilliant life phrases I could have quoted but I'll let you find these gems yourself. Seeing that it's less than 2 months to Christmas, I can recommend this one as an enchanting Christmas gift. This could be read over and over OR makes a cute coffee table book. My thanks to publisher for gifting me a copy of this book. 💬 What activity have you been wanting to start for a long time? | I'm finally feeling better on the third day after my second COVID vaccine dose. I spent a lot of my sick time thinking about things I've put on hold and how I can start rebalancing my life (not just locking myself into my home office with papers and spreadsheets). I've been feeling that I haven't taken good care of my body physically since dance studios became unsafe. Now that my dance partner and I are both vaccinated, we can talk about relearning our competition choreography. I'd also really like to have an active hobby for myself. I've been wanting to try aerial for a long time (especially aerial hoop/lyra), and also kickboxing. Definitely not running, even though Breathe Annie Breathe is in this photo. Time to channel some Mars🔥 courage and try something new! . 📖: Amour Amour by Krista and Becca Ritchie (New Adult) is a book I've reread. Swoony alpha romance, strong (literally) heroine, and lots of circus/training/Las Vegas drama. The hero is Russian. I've heard that's a plus for many readers, but my dance partner is also Russian, and I never want to cross that particular thought boundary. 🍵: Chrysanthemum, stinging nettle, turmeric, and homemade ginger syrup for some courage from Mars and the Sun. 🎴: Queen of Swords and Eight of Wands, both reversed (#shadowscapestarot). QOTD: Recommend me an underrated book! 😁 * • * Mini review! Gray Wolf Island by @traceyneithercott from Knopf Books (@penguinrandomhouse ) * • * I won this book in a giveaway about a year ago and I’m so happy I did! I don’t normally like magical realism so the fact that I have this book 4 stars has to tell you something! I was VERY intrigued by the mystery of the island and the treasure AND the characters. It is from two POV and one is a mystery character. It was written so well! And the character growth was done well, especially for a book that was only a little over 300 pages. The content was heavier than I had originally thought, but that’s okay, because it was really good! (I like heavier books, I was just surprised by this one). I’ve seen a lot of reviewers saying it’s a lot like The Raven Boys and I only half agree. The plot and story was different enough that it didn’t feel that similar. However, her writing style is very similar to Stiefvaters, and that’s a good thing! This book was weird in the best possible way! Oh, that ending hurt. So.
