Daily Writing Challenge 2021 Day 1 - Afterlife

The Construct’s designer wingtip boots clacked against the hard stone of Oribos’s Ring of Transference as he paced in circles. By this point in his journey, he had explored the available Afterlives, including The Maw, and while they all were fascinating in their own ways, he found himself...restless? Was that what this feeling was? Wanting more, but not being able to attain it? It was a feeling he experienced often, as if the world could not keep up with his curiosity. Now, not even the Shadowlands could.

Like a wild beast trapped in a cage.

The Brokers were of little help in answering his questions regarding other realms. Their knowledge came with a price, and The Construct was not adept at unintentionally swaying energy beings...yet. As with everything, it was a constant work in progress and harming or destroying them wouldn’t secure him their extensive knowledge, but instead probably gain him many enemies. That was not the objective of this particular expedition. 

The Brokers were able to move freely among the Afterlives, and previous conversations led him to believe that they were able to roam much more than what Azeroth’s occupants were allowed. But The Construct was unlike Azeroth’s typical occupants, wasn’t he? He didn’t need to follow the same rules, nor the same laws of the natural world; that much he had learned in his previous bouts of restlessness. Why couldn’t he navigate through the In-Between to explore new realms just as they did? He only had to believe he could do it, that seemed to be how things worked for him thus far.

He had been told of infinite Afterlives, a concept he couldn’t even fathom at the time; but the more he speculated, the more it made sense. This was not a place just for the inhabitants of his current timeline on Azeroth, this was meant for those from all corners of the universe within the infinite planes of existence. Life and death was so beautifully, but terribly vast.

He held onto those thoughts as icy eyes fluttered shut, pondering what the other realms may look like, what types of creatures, beings, and souls they may hold. Wondering if they too were in peril, and why they were not a part of this collective effort to stop something that must be affecting them as well. He thought of sandy beaches and deserts, cascading mountains and choppy seas, and never-ending fields of…

Eyes flew open as a sudden breeze kissed his cheeks, “...wildflowers.” His dulcet whisper was carried off into the wind as he turned in place, arms outstretched to graze his palms overtop of the brightly-colored, foreign flowers that spread out in every direction as far as the eye could see. Delicate footsteps carried him through the unfamiliar flora as his gaze drifted towards the sky, or what he assumed to be a sky. White wisps swirled around in irregular patterns set against the luminous light of whatever was up there. The longer The Construct observed, the more the frame of a massive flower became prevalent, constantly shifting its structure as if it were a living being. 

He was fully enraptured by the celestial phenomena, but a sudden jolt within his mind brought him back to where he previously had been wandering in Oribos. A nearby Broker watched him, clearly hesitant about approaching before eventually deciding to swiftly rejoin their Cartel. The Construct smiled to himself, and in tandem to his Master Gaebral, knowing fully well that he was the one to have retrieved his creation before any harm could befall him. 

Even the prettiest of flowers could carry the deadliest of poisons.

Had he done it? Had he just experienced another Afterlife? That was the assumption; whether or not he could duplicate the experience was another story. For now, his curiosity was sated and he had questions, or at least some information to trade.

THE MAIN THREE:

The Construct - ‘C’ Likeness:  Cillian Murphy In-game Name: Theconstruct (WrA-H) Artist: Merwild His Master, Gaebral’s, finest and most ‘innocent’ creation.  Although he presents himself as a Death Knight, no one is really sure if that is the truth or not - there’s much more to him than meets the eye.  He tends to be a bit of a wanderer and never stays in one place for too long, often preferring to watch and observe but is ‘friendly’ enough upon approach.  His views on life and the world may be a little too extreme for some.

Aerden Lo’sharri Jr. Likeness:  Tom Holland In-game Name: Aerdenn  (WrA-H) Artist: Teallinum Looks like a cinnamon roll and IS (mostly) a cinnamon roll!  He joined the military as soon as he was of age and has been there ever since.  He started in the medical tents but has since become a combat medic, being one of the few that uses Life magic and is also an empath.  He was recently chosen to go through the Elite Forces training and is currently in training for that. He still has a lot of growing up to do but he has a bright and optimistic outlook on life despite all the hardships. He learned in the recent years that Pollux Hale is his biological father! 

Ryland Falkov Likeness: Thomas Doherty In-game Name: Falkov (WrA-A), Ryyland (WrA-H), Ryyland (MG-A) Artist: Zoratrix A half-elf born from a human mother and a high elf father (whom he has never met nor even knows the name of), Ryland grew up in his mother’s dance studio where she taught lessons. Now he can be spotted in a variety of night clubs go-go dancing for tips, and more recently you can find him on the Succulent Tart stage! He is also the lead navigator for the Lady Lillium, working under Captain Felonous Blacksun. He’s charming, flirtatious, and loves to be the center of attention - he’s also always on the lookout for his next sugar mama/daddy.

Taric Sunflare (Darkmorn) Likeness: Joe Alwyn In-game Name: Darkmorn  (WrA-H) Artist: Zoratrix An alchemist and herbologist who owns the alchemy shop, The Red Rook, down in Booty Bay with his cockatiel Pickles, Taric could be considered something of a ‘modern hippie’. He prides himself on the quality and effectiveness of his all-natural potions, having studied the craft under his mother for his entire life until she passed. Often found traveling for work, he is able to adapt and thrive in pretty much any culture.  He is the nephew of Tristenne ‘Red’ Darkmorn, although that will likely remain a secret for some time even though most that know both suspect some sort of relation given their similarities.  Like all the Darkmorns before him, he’s able to freely traverse the Shadowlands and commune with the dead.

Kareenia  Amberlight - ‘Kara’ Likeness: Anya Taylor-Joy In-game Name: Kareenia  (WrA-H) Artist: AvannTeth The younger sister of Dicenne Amberlight, Kara is something of a wild card. She currently lives in a small apartment in Silvermoon City with her cat, Shabby, but can be found often visiting Dice in Ratchet. She’s had a rough life, but thanks to her big brother she’s done a lot of healing in recent years and is less afraid of being out in public and in crowds. Art is her therapy, and she’s quite the skilled painter.

Inistellan Volanthus - ‘Stellan’ Likeness:  Clive Owen or Jon Hamm In-game Name:  Inistellan  (WrA-H) Artist: Merwild My oldest (in age, not in time played) and most distinguished character, Stellan has led a very long and fulfilling life…that the majority will never hear about.  He’s gone through three name changes in his lifetime, although he’ll only ever go into detail about his present persona. Currently he works as a bouncer and an occasional host for The Red Moon when not doing mercenary gigs with Talonoa. The man prefers to remain a bit of a mystery to just about everyone, even those closest to him - for a good reason.

Ourobor An’dar - ‘Ouro’ Likeness:  Dan Stevens or Ryan Gosling In-game Name:  Ourobor  (WrA-H) Artist: DarkTarou While he’ll tell others he’s a freelance mercenary, Ouro is first and foremost an arms dealer and anyone in the business would know him as such. Horde, Alliance, military, citizen, mercenary - he’ll cater to anyone that offers the right price. He will never be found without a gun somewhere on his person, they are his lifeline and his obsession. On a quest for vengeance right now, his violent desires tend to play a heavy role in all aspects of his life.

Garren Norassin Likeness: Lucky Blue Smith In-game Name: Garrenne  (WrA-A) The son of Xylaes (former high elf, now blood elf) and Callia (night elf, now deceased and in Maldraxxus), he doesn’t remember much of his mother and has only recently met his father. Their relationship is very shaky given the circumstances, but Xy is now the only family that he has left. He’s still young and is trying to find his footing in this world, which has not been easy given his unusual appearance that puts him as a bit of an outcast within both the Horde and Alliance. He lost his home and grandparents when Teldrassil was burned, and is currently living in Bel’ameth trying to find a new path in life.

*NEW CHARACTER!** Vienyos and Ellarielle Descatoire Likeness: Angela Sarafyan In-game Name: Vienyos (WrA-H - Ellarielle does not exist in game as she’s rarely around and busy with family) Vie and Ella are Shal’dorei twins that used to be a part of the Resistance within Suramar before the bubble was lifted. Ellarielle has since started a family with @calebbe and is often traveling with him and their two children. Vienyos, also known as the Suramar Siren for her vocals, has joined Succulent Tart and performs in various clubs all over Azeroth.

Walking places an excessive amount of weight on the bucket because you are walking. However, other tricks, like spinning a water skier around a lake, probably won't help your buckets either.

Use the appropriate bucket for the task at hand.

You must use the appropriate container for the task. Theconstruction equipment supplier also keeps these things in mind. Using a larger bucket in the mistaken belief that it will complete the task more quickly. It might do the task, but at a higher cost and with less effectiveness. Using a bucket that is the ideal size—not too tiny, nor too big—will yield the best results. Although you can't always use a specialized bucket, you should always attempt to find the one that is best suited for the task.
