GOOD MONDAY MORNING! Extremely disturbing... We need more parents to be involved in their schools. Get to know these adults working with their children. Make sure they’re (the parents) real for those adults in that school. Then make sure the respect their child(ren) show them at home they give the same respect to the adults who are in these positions. I’ve had to remind our children to remember how they treat the adults in their families and that’s how they want to treat us in the school. Yes I’ve had the children to respond, ‘but you’re not my mom/family!’ So I let them know that, ‘respect is earned and a two way street. So if you can’t treat us with the respect you show your parent(s). Then treat the adults the way you’d like to be treated. The BIE designation has created concern in the Black community that the FBI is launching a new COINTELPRO program targeting Black activists who have committed no crimes, with more arrests and prosecutions of those involved in racial justice movements to follow. This latest chapter represents the FBI that has been familiar to Black people for decades. While the bureau only recently created the term Black Identity Extremist, its methods, tactics and orientation remain the same with regard to Black activists. The FBI has a long tradition of treating Black political movements as terrorists and enemies of the state, and a threat to national security and public safety. A conservative, white-male-dominated organization, the FBI always has taken its cues from anti-Black, right-wing propagandists. On December 12, 2017 in Dallas, #ChristopherDaniels, also known as Rakem Balogun, was arrested during a raid on his home and charged with the unlawful possession of a firearm, the result of more than two years of FBI surveillance, as Foreign Policy reported. Federal agents held Daniels outside in his underwear and seized two firearms the government claims he is barred from owning due to a 2007 misdemeanor domestic assault conviction in Tennessee. Among other items FBI agents took from Daniels’ home was a copy of the book “Negroes With Guns” by civil rights activist Robert F. Williams. Williams was the first Black leader of his era to support armed resistance to racial oppression. Following the Supreme Court’s 1954 Brown v. Board of Education decision, Williams had revived the Monroe, North Carolina, chapter of the NAACP amid Ku Klux Klan violence. In response to assaults on Black women that were ignored by police, he organized Black workers and veterans, filed for a charter from the NRA and formed the Black Armed Guard. He has a serious medical condition that prevents him from attending regular high school classes, so he’s home schooled. He’s 5’3” and 119 lbs. This is Nicholas in this video. Nicholas has never had any trouble with the law. On this day, Nicholas was coming home from the park when police officers from the 71st Precinct in Brooklyn, New York, ran up to him and kidnapped him without cause. While being kneeled on and placed in a wrestling hold, Nicholas was interrogated. Nicholas’ medical condition requires that he stay hydrated, however, when Nicholas asked for water he was denied. When Nicholas’ mother and other concerned members of the community arrived at the precinct to inquire about his arrest and his well-being, they were disrespected, denied access and scoffed at. Nicholas was eventually charged with Disorderly Conduct and Conduct Threatening to the Safety of others. But the video speaks for itself. This is normalized behavior. No one is surprised here. Even I’m not surprised- I get these cases all the time. I even have a rough estimate of how much money I’ll get for Nicholas based on these officers conduct. But when does our abuse stop being transactional? The city budgets include a fund for these cases. But when do we make systemic changes? This doesn’t make the news and all these politicians can ignore it because it’s normal now- it’s not egregious enough. But imagine a similarly situated rich white kid being kidnapped by the police and then given a fake charge to substantiate the false arrest? This happened last week and if Nicholas had not been smart enough to remain silent and there had been a crime to pin on Nicholas, this story would have ended differently. But this is america. A natural connector and influencer in the nation’s capital, Zel tapped his network to identify hair stylists, barbers, nail techs and other volunteers to assist him in with pampering his students for the day. - Because of Them We Can spoke to @hail_zel to learn why going beyond the call of duty is important to him. - “Students have to know someone who looks like them and talks like them, and cares about them…inside and out of the classroom.” - According to Zel, the parents were extremely grateful. Police were the aggressors. #theculturespeaks via The Guardian - A police officer involved in the 2009 killing of Oscar Grant on an Oakland train platform repeatedly lied to investigators and had punched the unarmed 22-year-old without justification, according to newly released records. The report on the New Year’s Eve killing, which sparked national police accountability protests, was disclosed this week following journalists’ requests under a new California police transparency law. The previously sealed internal file, written 10 years ago, documented how the Bay Area Rapid Transit (Bart) officer Anthony Pirone “started a cascade of events that ultimately led to the shooting”. Pirone called Grant the N-word while detaining him, hit him in the face in an “unprovoked” attack, and later gave a series of false statements contradicted by videos, investigators said. The officer who shot Grant in the back, Johannes Mehserle, was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in a rare criminal trial over a killing by law enforcement. The newly disclosed report, written by a law firm hired by Bart to investigate the case amid intense scrutiny in 2009, offers new insights into the authorities’ formal conclusions in the months after Grant’s death. It also reveals Bart’s understanding of the ways Pirone escalated the situation and then lied about Grant’s actions in an effort to paint him as an aggressor. Pirone, responding to reports about a fight on the train, ordered Grant off the train in an “aggressive” manner while shouting profanities, and then forced him to sit on the ground, the report said. The Bart officer later claimed that Grant attacked him, saying: “He tried to punch me … He started kneeing me, then he kicked me and that’s when I put up a forearm to … the upper region of his body. A two-week trial is set to start next week in the #wrongfuldeath lawsuit brought by Gaines’ #family. At the hearing Friday, lawyers for the county will attempt to convince Judge Mickey Norman to dismiss the family’s claims. Gaines, 23, was shot and killed in August 2016 by tactical officer #RoyceRubyJr. during the hours-long standoff at her apartment. Ruby also twice hit her #son, #Kodi, who was then 5, when he fired at Gaines, according to the family’s complaint. Gaines’ family is suing the county, Ruby and four other county police officers. Attorneys for Gaines’ family dispute key points in the police account of the shooting, saying she was not pointing her shotgun at police when Ruby fired his weapon. They lay out a number of claims in their lawsuit, including allegations of #excessiveforce and wrongful death. The family’s attorneys allege that when two officers initially arrived to serve warrants at Gaines’ apartment, they made illegal entry into her home.
