Digital Crate Digging Continues as we come through on this Saturday afternoon but the science dropped is appropriate for any time frame! The saga  / struggle continues on this MLK Day Holiday Weekend, some will say “ain’t a damn thing changed” since MLK was here, it’s all game… …and they’ll keep changing the rules changing fools, especially since the holiday will be conflicting / contradicting…

okay so

i actually have this really bad obsession with adell. i’m not exaggerating i have 1000 pictures of him on my phone

that’s more picture than my doggie……..

also, he’s not a popular character at all. so i had to go searching for images of him across the seven seas and back (image boards, pixiv, scrolling through the media tab of disgaea fans on twitter(awful experience twitter ui is awful)…. i even searched through discord servers …and deviantart…..and of course, here too. i’ve seen the same few people pop up everywhere and i feel a little like an unintentional stalker….)

BUT it frustrates me cuz i don’t get it. he’s not that great a character, not even the best in his own game. he’s from a series which i mildly like but am not obsessed with. actually i kind of think he’s a little ugly sometimes. mostly he’s cute especially when harada draws him. but sometime…..

and it’s not just that i actually think about him constantly too. i go on youtube rewatch disgaea 2 cutscenes and then i replay disgaea 2 so i can constantly subject myself to his presence. in my free time i write and draw about him, but i get so embarrassed i’m never able to finish anything so they’re all drafts and left in the vault(art folder on my laptop). i ship him w roz hard, of course. also zenon, when it’s time for the toxic codependent possession cannibalism romance. axel and adell are surprisingly terrible yaoi, it’s best when they’re in a slapstick comedy duo and not in romance, imo. roz is great cuz they look good together. sinful rose is the best. it works cuz adell is so earnest. he seems like a shounen protagonist type but in reality he’s more often than not a reserved yet thoughtful person. he’s only a battle maniac half of the time. he doesn’t let his personal bias get in the way of understanding others. i have a personal grudge against disgaea rpg for shutting down the servers. speaking of mobile games, makai kingdom has the best skins in terms of adell only. causal adel is best. i have a billion aus, but my fav is not an original idea but based off of a light novel that hasn’t been translated into english where the d1,2,&3 characters all go high school together (i’m guessing evil academy?). i haven’t actually read it cuz i can’t read japanese, so i searched for scans of the illustrations and made up my own interpretations. i think in essence, adell is a character built up on contradictions and false hopes. he cares about being honest so much cuz he hated being lied to and given false promises, so he is someone who keeps his promises. but actually, he can’t be honest or truthful with his situation. he doesn’t even realize it. he’s ignorant. everyone around him is ignorant too. that’s why he’s a contradiction. his title is literally a pun based on that contradiction. he disproves his own thesis, that false hopes are always bad. he is a false hope. the last human isn’t real, and he didn’t protect roz, she protected him. but that doesn’t matter cuz it’s the thought that counts. omg.
