I am loving the âhow religious is your pcâ polls because like. I understand in theory how being an atheist could work in TES, but the gods are real. They are verifiably there.
the dwemer would like to talk with you lmfao
as far as i've gathered it's less atheism and more theistic neutrality or antitheism, like the gods don't deserve worship

The Universe's Genesis in Theistic Satanism
In Theistic Satanism, the universe wasn't made by an outside god. Instead, it came from something called Essence Energy. Before the universe existed, there was a "thing" in a state of nothingness, which we can't fully understand. This "thing" had a sleeping consciousness. It wasn't bound by time and held everything inside it, like a cosmic egg.
This "thing" eventually woke up. When it first woke, it had no knowledge, experiences, or memories. But as it realized it was energy, the ideas of "now," "knowing," and "energy" all appeared. Since it was the only thing that existed, it became Essence Energy, the source of everything.
To understand itself better, Essence Energy then split into opposite parts, which also brought forth the ideas of opposites and division. This wasn't about making something from nothing. Instead, Essence Energy expanded or spread out, turning a big part of itself into the universe. As this huge change happened, its energy and consciousness spread out and changed too. Importantly, a part of Essence Energy didn't change or spread out. This kept part of Essence Energy is still inside the universe, watching its own development.
Also, some pieces broke off from the main Essence Energy without changing. These pure pieces became the Primordial Gods. Satan and Demons are some of these. Over time, other gods also came into being by creating more of themselves as needed.
The main reason Essence Energy turned into the universe was to explore its own abilities and how it works. It wanted to see what it could become. To help this self-discovery, a light, basic order was set up. This allowed most of the universe to form freely on its own. For example, our galaxy and planets slowly formed over long periods.
Essence Energy's main goal is to gain knowledge, so it won't interfere with how the universe works until the very end. It just watches silently. The necessary order for the universe to function and to handle problems was put in place from the start through the gods. These gods create or destroy life when needed and share information or encourage beings to keep producing knowledge.
THE COSMIC ENERGY CHAIN
The Cosmic Energy Chain in Theistic Satanism is a complex system that facilitates the interaction and evolution of life in the cosmos. It connects all living organisms, gods, and Essence Energy, enabling the transmission of experiences and knowledge to support Essence Energyâs learning and self-comprehension.
The Chain channels energetic output from living entities to gods and Essence Energy, while also distributing vital information back to life forms. It ensures a balanced exchange of information and energy, crucial for the evolution and knowledge generation of sentient species.
If a species ceases to produce knowledge, it may be eradicated, and the planet may be reconnected to the Chain for new life or reformed
The 12 Immutable Principles
1 - Universal Energetic Composition: The entire universe is composed of energy. Everything within existence is fundamentally energy, manifesting in diverse forms and types.
2 - Duality of Energy Flow: All energy inherently constitutes a whole comprised of both positive and negative currents. Unilateral energy, existing solely as positive or negative, is an impossibility. Such imbalanced energy would lead to its explosion or internal collapse, subsequently causing harm to its surroundings before its own annihilation.
3 - Origin from Essence Energy: All forms of energy emanate from a singular source designated as Essence Energy. This genesis occurred when Essence Energy, initially in an unbalanced or neutral state without positive or negative polarities, self-divided and fragmented into these opposing currents.
4 - Conscious Self-Differentiation of Essence Energy: Essence Energy undertook its differentiation through its own conscious will, intention, and planning. It is an intelligent entity, capable of thought, awareness, information acquisition, and strategic planning. Essence Energy possesses the inherent power to alter the universe, which is fundamentally itself.
5- Immortality and Cyclical Nature of Essence Energy: Essence Energy is immortal; the only impossibility for it is to cease to exist, even if it desired to. It operates within its own inherent timeframe and, by its own volition, can revert to a singular, unbalanced state lacking positive or negative polarities. In this state, it collapses upon itself, reabsorbing the entire universe, and transforming into a cosmic egg. Its consciousness is then reset and purified, initiating a new cycle of existence.
6 - Omnipresence of Essence Energy: The entire universe originated from the dispersion of Essence Energy. However, Essence Energy persistently maintains its existence as a cohesive whole, present somewhere at all times, as it always has been. Thus, the term "Essence Energy" typically refers to this conscious, omnipresent component.
7 - Non-Intervention of Essence Energy: Essence Energy generally refrains from intervening in the universe's operations, with very rare exceptions. It transcends conventional concepts of good and evil, primarily functioning to receive information, observe, and gain self-awareness. It does not interfere with the existence or actions of individual beings.
8 - Existence of Higher-Tier Entities: There exist various subordinate entities and even entire races that have either been assigned the task of maintaining order among beings or have ascended to this level of capability. From a human perspective, these entities are equivalent to Gods.
9 - Subtle Interventions by Essence Energy: In instances of undesirable deviations within the universe's operational flow, Essence Energy performs extremely rare, subtle interventions or "insertions" among its higher and lower-tier entities. The reflections of these interventions reach humanity through the actions of these mediating entities.
10 - Multidimensionality of the Universe: The universe comprises a multitude of dimensions. Each of these dimensions constitutes a distinct realm, analogous to our understanding of space, stars, and galaxies, and each is a material realm. Fundamentally, there are seven primary dimensions, each possessing numerous parallel versions. Every parallel dimension is, in essence, another dimension from our perspective, implying the existence of millions of dimensions.
11 - Comprehensive Definition of the Universe: The term "universe" should encompass not solely our inhabited parallel dimension and the billions of stars and galaxies we observe, but the entirety of all these dimensions.
12 - Singular Point of Convergence: All dimensions possess a single point of convergence, where they overlap and interpenetrate. This point is the very material manifestation of Essence Energy itself. Given that all dimensions originate and emanate from Essence Energy, a specific point within every dimension and every parallel is in direct contact with Essence Energy. Consequently, within our own parallel dimension, it theoretically could be possible to physically encounter Essence Energyâspecifically, its localized manifestation within our dimensionâif one were to travel sufficiently far into space.
Essence Energy is also mentioned in Aleister Crowley's Book of Laws (Liber Al Vel Legis) with cryptic expressions.

Dear Dapper - you're so great at helping me think through ideas and creative blocks, and you have such great thoughts about DnD religions, so I hope this question is perfect for you. (Forgive the length, feel free to trim in any posting).
Our campaign is set in a world where the gods found some "clay" and sculpted a world out of it. Most of the various plots stem from the earliest, most powerful creations having various emotions about this act (resentment and reformation, jealousy, an overextended sense of ownership, or feeling they can redo it better). In the past, the sense of resentment led to a war where the traditional, but respected, judge-like, ferryman-style psychopomp god of death was killed. He now exists as a partial remnant, God of Undeath - the dark moon. The other gods then fled, abandoning creation.
My character started as a cleric of the light moon goddess, and as perhaps the most mythologically invested player, I've been expanding to become pan-theistic - trying to round up what remains of divine power into beneficent hands (ie, against the bbeg). In a recent story arc, a part of his soul was stolen, then given freely to this God of Undeath.
The God's angry (presumably about being killed - the how is an upcoming plot point). He's viewed as asleep, and wants to 'wake' the living world into undeath. His worshippers are secretive necromancers and the undead. Otherwise his themes so far are generally gothy, macabre and evil.
I think my character's desire is to try to restore him in some way, or at least, 'wake' him into some element of his former neutral/benevolent self. As a player, I want to toy with the scary, gothiness of this change, and dance with temptation a bit. As both, I want to find some good or positive elements to the Undeath angle that I can spin.
What ideas does this generate for you? In particular, what are some positives from undeath that I could play with? Why would a normal living wizard fall into the necromantic worship of this 'deity' (other than the selfish desire for immortality as a lich or vampire)?
Thanks for any thoughts you might have!
Fundamentally any depiction of the undead are really a portrayal of our relationship TO death, and the many reactions we can have regarding it's suddenness, tragedy, and inevitability.
A god that's angry about their own inevitable demise strikes me as one that's stuck mid way through the seven stages of grief, a state not unlike undeath because it leaves those trapped in it unable to move on. Cultists might think they're gaining immortality through undeath but really they're trapping themselves in bereaved stasis.
The ultimate resolution then is taking steps toward catharsis and acceptance, of letting go, and coming to terms with the loss as a form of exorcism. Perhaps your character also had a significant death in their life and had trouble moving on, and wants to give this god the same hardwon peace they finally achieved, or achieve it by working things out through this god.
I find it interesting that "gothy" is a term that's brought up multiple times in your description, because one of the big parts about goth subculture (other than a kickass music scene) is a philosophy that asks us to not shy away from the fear of death but instead look at it head on, unpleasant as it is, and say " I embrace you and in doing so I acknowledge how great life really is"

Did last anon forget that atheism â antitheism? The default position of atheism is not asshole. Like many things in the world, it's just neutral. Antitheism on the other hand is explicitly, well, anti theistic.
I'm agnostic personally, but atheists simply choose personally not to believe in God. Antitheism is someone deciding that *no one* should believe in God. Cruciall difference imo, kinda exposes how other anon thinks tbh

Thinkin' about Bea, so here's some thoughts on this nerd. Let's go.
-She's originally from New Jersey, and, while she did move around quite a lot, you can really hear it in the way she talks when she's really amped up about something.
-Adapted surprisingly well to being around the ghouls, largely thanks to the fact that Mountain has proven to be more annoying than frightening in the long run, and because Rain's full water form is easily bribed with trout pellet.
-In terms of her feelings towards the church, the clergy, and Copia in particular as the figurehead of the organization, she's fairly neutral.
Overall, she has no interest in religion, and while her ideals do line up with those of modern Satanism, she is in no way looking to become a theistic Satanist.
In other words; She respects Copia because he's her boss, not because he's the antipope.
And lastly;
-Sexuality wise, Bea has never really sat down and thought about her orientation much, and usually just goes along for the ride when someone asks her out or propositions her, oftentimes just mirroring the energy of the other person.
Being in a relationship, especially something with strong labels, often leaves her feeling constricted and tends to result in her ending things fairly early on, as her desire to be free far outweighs her desire to be with someone at the end of the day.
As such, Bea prefers to keep her dating life casual, and has no current want for a partner.
That being said, Bea has found in recent years that many of the things she desires from a romantic relationship can be found through friendships as well, something she did not think was possible until only a few years ago.

Driving Karma
The word karma is typically used in a pejorative sense, such as âtheir karma will catch up to themâ or âkarma is a bitch.â But karma merely refers to cause-and-effect. It points to the simple fact that all actions, positive or negative, have an impact and proliferating results. These actions were caused by other, prior actions and will in turn result in further such âcauses.â Manifestation is an unbroken field of such interrelated activity.
In other words, karma is not merely some blind force; itâs a mechanism of sorts, a law related to the dynamics and interactions of reality on an experiential level. So karma itself is neutral and can describe positive or beneficial actions/results as well as negative ones. This is an important point because it leaves room for choice and change. Good and positive actions can become deliberate, and even a discipline, producing a steady stream of good and positive resultsâeffects as well as affectsâwhich will also act as further, positive causes. Such a discipline will inevitably make a person and their relationships and environment more pleasant as well.
A large part of secular, or non-theistic, spirituality is grasping the ârulesâ or patterns of this law and diligently and deliberately applying oneself to creating positive effects (and affects) daily. We say itâs non-theistic because it doesnât require any outside influence such as deistic or angelic intervention. Rather it requires individual understanding, appreciation, choice, commitment and ongoing application.
Energy inevitably ripples, but the form, directionality and potential of these ripples are not merely subject to chance. Isolation is simply impossible. Reality on an experiential level is Relationship. Karma is the complex, organic mechanism behind this reality. Everything is linked. Everything and everyone effects everything and everyone, constantly.
Imagine driving a big truck wearing a blindfold. This is how far too many people move through their own life: blindly, leaving a wake of wreckage, damage and destruction, all the while bemoaning the seemingly randomness and unfairness of life. But it need not always remain so. Driving well requires attention and deliberateness. Driving karma is no different.
This, then, is how we remake the world into a better place: one deliberate, intelligent and compassionate gesture at a time.
Awareness is essential. Karma is inevitable. Choice is direction.

I recently saw a social media post where an atheist showed a picture of someone wearing a cross and said:
I donât advertise my non-belief on my body. Why do Christians feel the need to advertise their belief?
Iâm not going to attempt to speak for Christians. Some of their reasons overlap with mine and some are their own. But I want to respond to the question from my perspective as a religious Pagan.
The assumption behind the question: the public square should be religion-free
This wasnât a neutral, value-free inquiry. This was a âhey, Iâm just askingâ question where a particular viewpoint is assumed to be correct.
The question assumes that the purpose of religious clothing and jewelry is advertising. Now, letâs be honest: some Christian apparel is all about advertising, especially the in-your-face t-shirts like those I sometimes see advertised on Patheos. But thatâs far from the only reason people â Christian or Pagan or other â wear religious items.
Beyond that, it assumes that wearing such items is a bad thing. It assumes that the public square should be free from all religious displays and be entirely secular.
When governments put up religious displays, thatâs a bad thing. When government officials and employees promote their religion in their official capacities, thatâs a bad thing. When the gatekeepers of the public square allow some religious displays but not others (hello, Satanic TempleâŚ) thatâs a very bad thing.
But individuals wearing Jesus t-shirts or hijabs, crosses or pentacles, yarmulkes or turbans? Thatâs all part of the glorious garden of religions we have in this, the most religiously diverse society in the history of the world. And thatâs a very good thing.
Atheists do this too
The original poster may not advertise their religion on their body, but some atheists do. Search for âatheist shirtsâ on Amazon and you get over 3000 results. Those arenât all being bought by fundamentalists who want to burn them. Some of them are accurate, some are funny, and some are needlessly offensive.
Some atheists insist they have no religion. I take them at their word, but non-theistic religion is still religion. And at least some non-theists like wearing clothing and jewelry that identifies them as non-theists. Whether that makes them religious or not is a matter for them to decide, but it sure looks the same as what theists of every variety do.
For visibility of a minority religion
Nobody likes watching commercials on TV or looking at the ads here on Patheos (but thatâs the only way the writers get paid, not that any of us get paid anything close to minimum wage). But in an economy built on commerce, advertising is a necessity⌠although some advertising crosses the line into malefic magic.
Advertising isnât a necessity for those of us who practice non-proselytizing religions. Iâm not trying to âwin the world for Cernunnosâ â and if I was, I think Heâd tell me I had my priorities mixed up.
At the same time, visibility is a good thing. If nothing else, I want people to know weâre here, that thereâs a religion (or a group of many religions) that sees the Divine as many and Nature as sacred. And I want people who are looking for what we have to be able to find us.
Wearing a Pagan t-shirt or my Awen pendant silently says âhey, weâre here!â
To remind ourselves of our commitments
Read any wedding vows â traditional or contemporary â and you will see words of commitment from spouse to spouse. âWith this ring I thee wed and such. Wedding rings arenât there to tell the world someone is âoff the marketâ â theyâre there to remind the spouses of their commitments to each other.
The same can be true with religious jewelry. When I wear my Cernunnos pendant, I am reminded that I am His priest and that I have made certain commitments to Him. My Awen pendant reminds me of my commitment to this path of Druidry.
To fulfill a requirement
There are no clothing or jewelry requirements that apply to all Pagans. But I have friends who have a geas to always wear certain items of clothing, or to not wear others. Itâs not a fashion choice. Itâs not a choice, period â thatâs what a geas is. Itâs a religious requirement. Some have items they are never allowed to remove for any reason, or only allowed to remove in certain places around certain people.
This isnât advertising or visibility or even a commitment. Itâs a requirement, a command, something a person was instructed to do by their Gods. And so they wear it, even if it upsets Christians and atheists⌠and the Pagans who donât like the idea of Gods who make demands.
Iâm thankful I have no such requirements. I rarely wear jewelry outside of ritual â I donât like the way it feels on my body. But some do, and I respect their dedication.
As amulets and talismans
Anyone who grew up on classic horror movies knows you wear a cross to repel vampires (and those of us who read Anne Rice as teenagers know it doesnât always work that way). Some of our Pagan jewelry isnât just religious â itâs magical.
The pentagram is a symbol of protection â a pentacle (a 3-dimensional pentagram) serves as a shield against harmful spirits and energies. Some crystals and stones do the same thing. Others draw certain energies and spirits to the wearer.
Pagan jewelry can have a functional aspect.
Because we like the way they look
Not everything has to have a deep meaning or functional use. Sometimes we just like the aesthetics of something.
When youâre dealing with aesthetics in the context of religious and spiritual traditions, the question of appropriation always comes up. Christians have complained about pop stars wearing crosses since at least the early days of Madonna. In 2017 we were arguing about the âbasic witchâ trend â I wrote The Aesthetic of Witchcraft and the Return of Real Magic where I said that my work âkeeps me so busy I canât spend much time worrying about those who just want to look like a witch.â
But you canât appropriate your own tradition (you can misuse or disrespect it, but thatâs another topic). If youâre a witch who likes to dress in ways stereotypical of witches, have at it. My wardrobe has a lot of black in it, in part because of its association with witches, but also because I just like black. Iâve worn tons of black since kindergarten.
And sometimes we dress against tradition, because we like other things too. Iâm a Druid â sometimes I wear a white robe, and sometimes I wear khakis and a polo shirt.
As a Pagan, I will gladly ally myself with anyone who will help in the work to build a better world here and now â which includes the work to keep governments from establishing, supporting, or promoting any one religion over others. But those who want a religion-free public square are fighting needlessly and for the wrong things.

Unasked for criticism of the day-
Let me first say that drug recovery is good, and I commend anyone who has found whatever works for them in the present systems available. Also this is a very outsider perspective, Iâm not an addict and have never gone to any addiction recovery meetings. I just research things obsessively. Cool. Iâm sure (hope) at least half of you got that. So hereâs my 2¢ on AA specifically.
AA and itâs offshoots are a doctrinal theistic organization and I think we should really examine that. The 12 step program requires that a person believe in a higher power to move forward. You can say whatever you like about âoh but itâs flexible about what a higher power isâ or âoh you can interpret that so many waysâ. Iâm sure that works for some people. Great. But the fact is why?
Why does anyone need to believe in a higher power to recover from addiction? Why does it need to be phrased like that? Why can you not overtly remove the religious/superstition/magical thinking if your meeting still wants to be listed along with AA meetings, which are possibly the de facto recovery program btw. You canât btw. Look up the secular Toronto AA meeting which removed reference to âhigher powersâ and such and got delisted and unaffiliated. Among others.
Now, I think admitting âI need help to overcome thisâ is very different from âI need a higher power to overcome this addictionâ. I have other issues too. I know that the whole asking forgiveness for the harm one has caused while addicted is a big part of AA, and Iâm sure itâs helpful. But that can a) put those youâve harmed in a really awkward position and s/x itâs better to just leave them alone probably; b) puts the responsibility on them to forgive instead of the person trying to recover forgiving themself. I also have some wariness about how AA -and itâs offshoots- can reinforce shame, in ways I think are probably harmful.
Also, in general. I believe we just need more options, and tbf there are some other options. So I guess I just think there needs to be more, awareness and acceptance of other options. One thing I will say is that in general I think that AA gives people a place to meet and talk about this common thing they are trying to recover from is good (as with any social organization of many people that has its issues as well but those arenât imho unique to AA, their might be some criticism of the sponsee model but that too isnât unique to AA). Honestly idk if this exists, but a neutral organization which provides listings for various recovery programs that use different models seems to me like a very good idea.
tl;dr AA and itâs offshoots are flawed organizations for several reasons that should be criticized and there should be more availability and acceptance to do other recovery programs.

¤Born two years after Greta, Lis was only ever a means to an end. She did not grow up with her family; instead, she grew up at her uncle'sâMax's. She never knew much about her mother or her father. All she knew was that her mother was sick and that she couldn't see her. And her father only came to visit once a monthâto see how she was doing. For most of her life, Lis did not think it was too strange; it was the only thing she knew, after all. On her eighteenth birthday, Lis was finally allowed to see her mother again, who had seemingly just gotten out of the mental hospital. Only then did she slowly begin to learn how everything connected to the bigger picture.
Only then did she learn that the nightmares she kept having were not real nightmares--but something far worse. She noticed the changes in her mother's personality, but instead of praying to her God to make it go away, she resented him for it. For her mother's sickness and for burdening her with it, too. She believed her father's religion to be a joke, laughed about it, and mocked it. Until she accidentally summoned Satan himself. And even then, she just hoped he would finally take her sister away.

A Theistically Neutral Meditation/Prayer for Racial Justice and the Reformation of White Supremacists & Neo-Nazis, Invoking Martin de Porres
Most humble Martin de Porres, whose burning charity embraced not only your needy siblings, but also the very animals in the field: Splendid example of charity, we hail thee and invoke thee, from the high throne which you now occupy. May your life serve as great inspiration, that by imitating your virtues, we may see that of the holy in every individual, regardless of class or color or background, and live as one loving human family, always treating our neighbor as ourselves.
In this time of racial strife, we ask that your spirit touch the hearts of those who think they are superior because of their color or religion.
And may we who know your lessons never turn our backs on those who do not know them. May we remember that these humans also have inalienable & inherent worth and dignity. As we wish to never be abandoned or given up upon, when we fall short of Goodness, we, too, need to not abandon them, and to remember that no matter how monstrous their mindsets or behaviors are, they are not monsters, but still people, worthy of love, forever our peers on this planet, and we are responsible for them. (And, in remembering that they are people like us, that we too could fall into such mindsets or behaviors, and to always be wary and vigilant against such evils.)
And so, may we embrace our siblings whose hearts are filled with hate. May we remember that their minds are also filled with fear, may we show compassion to their pain, to create a safe space for dialog that leads to change, while, with concern yet firmly instructing away from the mindsets that breed inequality amongst the human race.
May our unequivocal invitation of belonging, the love of our communities, and the careful instruction we provide, turn the hearts and minds of those who foment violence & destruction towards their fellow human beings.
May the power of our love be strong enough to break down the walls of hatred & exclusion they have built to protect their fragile hearts & egos. May our compassion and welcome be enough to leave them feeling safe & secure in themselves and their rightful place in the world as equals beside all people. May they feel confident enough to seek help for any other issues that may have driven them to formerly seek belonging in exclusionary community.
May these people repent & reform, finding rehabilitation, being born anew with a new heart, a new mind, and a new spirit. And then, may they go forth to share with the world, and especially their former fellows in hate & violence, the necessity of a new way of being, and hope towards those ends.
And may we who know & believe in your lessons always remember that our own internal work is not done that our hearts are never fully pure, and we, too, have room for improvement.
May this hallowed work bring us closer to the day when all will live in peace, freedom, and harmony, one people in a just world.
Martin de Porres, be with us, all of us, on our minds & in our hearts.
Amen/May It Be So/So Say We All
