For the first time in four years – since Neil let the Foxes in, learned to trust, stopped surviving and started living – Neil gives in to his oldest instinct.

It was Wednesday so it was easy to slip out unnoticed. Neil was glad. He didn’t want to have to lie to any fox that saw him. He wouldn’t have to find out if the face of another fox would break his resolve or if he was too far gone to care. That was one of the scariest part, the ice overtaking his lungs, the numbness in his chest, how easy it always was to fall back into what he hated.

And it was, easy that is. Maybe Andrew’s cold words helped him along, maybe the anniversary of when he first went on the run pushed him some more, and maybe the nightmare full of dead bodies and blood sent him over the edge. But the edge had always been there, and it seemed like Neil had never stepped back.—

In which Neil has a pretty bad day if I do say so myself.

Heya, Firstly love this blog, its really useful! I was wondering if you could rec any andreil fics - sort of angst/hurt/comfort which have Andrew and Neil having an argument (any topic) and then making up. I love argument - make up fics but can't find many for this fandom. I guess it might be a bit out of character for them but I thought I'd ask if you know any! Thank you!! Xxx

If this had happened a few years ago, Andrew would have stood by and watched him leave. No argument, no attempted persuasion. Because that’s what people do. They leave, or they treat you badly enough that you leave first. People are never worth the trouble.

But not this time. The past decade with Neil has made Andrew come to terms with the fact that this means something. Andrew is rather shocked to find that he believes he himself should be enough to make Neil stay. That he is worthy of it. That he wants Neil to stay, and he will be damned if he lets him go without a fight. Andrew is asking. And if that won’t make Neil stay, nothing will.

In which Neil tries to protect Andrew, and Andrew tells him to get over his hero complex.
