Q&A Translations

I translated all of the Mononoke Question Box Answers that have been posted by the official Mononoke Twitter as of March 26, 2025. I will work on posting the others as they come out so I don't put out such a long post again, but in the mean time here they are:

Q: Is there some kind of magic related meaning in Kusuriuri-san and Shingi-san's clothing? For example, Kusuriuri-san wears women's kimono, and Shingi-san has black cloth wrapped around his arms and legs. A: On the kimono, I believe it serves as the mark of a Medicine Seller, which is why there are a lot of shared elements. It's similar to a uniform.

Both Kusuriuri and Shingi's forms change as they mark the passing of history on their bodies, so as for the black cloth, there is probably some story there.

Q: Did Kusuriuri-san buy the love potions from England himself? I was wondering if they do business with foreign countries.

A: They do. It seems more research is needed on the question of if Medicine Sellers are unique to Japan.

Q: Does Kusuriuri-san need to eat? Did he eat the hoobamiso onigiri after Karakasa?

A: Medicine Sellers don't need to eat or sleep. They don't need to gain nutrition with their mouths. But they do understand taste, so sometimes they pretend to eat. This depends on the personality of each Medicine Seller, so even I don't actually know if the Medicine Seller of Kon ate it.

Q: Were there any points during the production of Hinezumi that made you be like "This came out super well! I love it!"? Also, are there any points where you're like "Open your eyes and watch closely!!!"? It was fast-paced this time so I'm not sure if I'll be able to follow everything, but if there are, I really want to try and keep an eye out for themmm!!!

A: Director: Suzuki Kiyotaka I won't be able to write everything because it's too detailed, sorry. In my opinion, our team was super competent and it feels like each person's skill came through in the film, so thank you to all the staff. To touch on the contents, I guess I really liked the balance between reality and memory. Because it's a movie, we had them come up with all sorts of ways to increase the climax in the latter half. I hope you enjoy it with your eyes, ears, and heart.

General Director: Nakamura Kenji The collaboration between the storyboard and the screenplay. We had Atarashi-san, the writer, look over the storyboard and edit the dialogue. After the framework of the Mononoke and the set were decided, the action was adjusted to work within the space, and there was also revision during ADR (from the time of Karakasa) with updates piling on top of each other. There are quire a few difficult spots, but it seems like it should be normal from here on out.

Q: In the movie, the Sword of Exorcism and the trunk seem to move with a mysterious power. Is that Kusuriuri-san's power? Or does it come from Shingi-san or the Sword of Exorcism?

A: It's the power of the Medicine Seller, but there are many scenes where the tools use their situational awareness and move on their own. I think they're all probably working together.

Q: With regards to Karakasa and Hinezumi, I want to hear about the scenes that gave you the most difficulty.

A: General Director: Nakamura Kenji For Karakasa, it would probably be the part from Kusuriuri's transformation to when he says "issen!" and Kitagawa's first appearance. For Hinezumi, I'll pass to the director, Suzuki!

Director: Suzuki Kiyotaka For Hinezumi, constructing the parallels in the drama between Fuki and Botan around solving the Reason was kind of difficult. And the part from the transformation to "issen!" was difficult because of the quantity, but we got through it thanks to our amazing staff.

Q: When the giant eye appears, Kusuriuri-san says "The Karakasa is manifesting in the utsushiyo*," but it actually seems like the dimension that Kusuriuri-san, Saburoumaru, and everyone else is in has changed. Is the world in which the Karakasa has manifested also the utsushiyo? *Buddhist term referring to the current life

A: Very good question, yes, the utsushiyo also includes the yellow sky where the mononoke reveals its true form, and the anomalous space (is what we call it) of the outer wall. The world is structured like a millfeuille, with layers on layers (so it could also be thought of as a separate dimension).

Q: Directors, who is the character you love the most in Mononoke? Mine is the scales.

A: General Director: Nakamura Kenji I love them all so much; I'm always crying while cutting their scenes and lines. I'd like to have the scales be more active too.

Director: Suzuki Kiyotaka It's not love, but with regards to the movie, I started to sympathize with Botan and feel like she was kind of similar to me. Other than that, I like the funny and cool Sakashita, and the funny and cute Kume-chan.

Q: When did Saburoumaru and Hiramoto develop their current dynamic? They originally had different social standings, so maybe they weren't able to banter like they do now...

A: We actually just published a short story on WEB where you can read about this, so please check it out. Hiramoto is actually the type to live by his own values and thoughts, regardless of the people around him, so he would speak directly with Saburoumaru instead of holding onto any strange prejudices. Hopefully they'll continue to be buddies.

Q: In the anime, I had the impression that Kusuriuri-san and Shingi-san were like mirror reflections, inversions of each other, but in the movie it seems like they're complete opposites. Are Kusuriuri-san and Shingi-san designed with the pair in mind? There are a lot of parts that are fiery, like the hair and the sword, so I'd like to know if there was some design motif being referenced.

A: Basically, the Sword of Exorcism and Shingi are a set. You may wonder, "Then, shouldn't Kusuriuri's body and form match the sword?" but we haven't advanced that far in the research of the Sword of Exorcism. I'm deeply ashamed.

Q: There are a lot of movements that are flashy in a kabuki way, like sheathing Sakashita-san's katana with his foot or jumping off the roof spinning. I'm interested to know if you had any references.

A: It wouldn't be that cool if Kusuriuri-san moved normally, so everyday we would think about how to make him more ostentatious, how to add more theatrical flair. So a lot of it is from imagination. But kabuki, noh, tokusatsu, or any videos where men have beautiful movements might also serve as a reference.

Q: Kusuriuri-san's trunk seems awfully heavy; I wonder how heavy it is? The scales are on the bottom, the sword is on the top, so I'm curious what else is in there. On that note, in the movie Kusuriuri has some pretty flashy action scenes, but wouldn't it be bad if the medicine in there got damaged?

A: The inside of the trunk is like a different dimension, so it's take care of. There's no way all the scales could fit in there, so it connects to another dimension. It's like a magic item. So, you don't need to worry; but if we tried to lift it, it would probably be about 200 kg.

Q: Utayama-sama was shown to be self-conscious of her hands; was she conscious of her age? Did she perhaps think about how she had been in the Ooku the longest? Also, I want to know more about her. Anything's fine; her birthday, height, favorite food......please tell me anything you can!

A: I personally think that life is shown in the eyes or expressions and age is shown in the hands. Utayama-san feels that in the near future she will not have the power to carry out all of her duties within the Ooku. With regards to her birthday and favorite food, the results of the investigation have not come back yet, so all I can say is she doesn't like or dislike anything (investigation ongoing).

Q: In the movie, Kusuriuri-san wields the Sword of Exorcism with his left hand even though he seems to be right handed. Is it because Shingi-san is left handed, so he holds the sword in his left hand to match?

A: The hand that the medicine sellers use to wield the sword depends on the sword. Apparently the Sword of Kon wants to be held in the left hand.

Q: When it's time to decide the nighttime companion, the ochuurou are lined up in the Osuzurouka. Is the order they're lined up in predetermined? Also I'd like to know the order in which they became ochuurou.

A: It is predetermined. I don't actually know the order in which they became ochuurou either, but Kiyo was definitely the last. She's a new ochuurou-san compared to Fuki.

Q: Is the Medicine Seller of Kon's hair long!??! Is it short!??! Please tell me!!!!!!!

A: The Medicine Seller of Kon's hair seems to be short. There might be times when he wants to grow his hair out, so I think it changes from time to time.

Q: I've heard that ideas can come to people at different times, like in the bath or on a walk. At what kind of time do the directors think "That will be the mononoke this time!" or "The Medicine Seller should do this in this scene!"? If that's too difficult, please tell me what candy you've been into lately!

A: General Director: Nakamura Kenji I'm not always doing my work or taking baths; when I'm particularly in pain I try to take showers, and since I'm changing my clothes at the same time I like clothes that are easy to launder.

Director: Suzuki Kiyotaka When I'm waking up or in the bathroom... It seems like it's mostly in the morning, but ideas come to me when I'm away from the desk.

Q: During the flashback scenes, these pentagonal shapes are floating around. Is there a reason for those shapes? Or are they an artistic element?

A: We call them "flashback clouds." We really wanted to make sure people noticed when it was a flashback, so when they appear, it's a flashback scene. There is one mysterious depiction of the past which is not actually a flashback, so they don't appear there (sorry if this is confusing). We wanted the shapes in the clouds to be kind of cute and look like candy. Those shapes are stored alongside many people's feelings and memories of the past. There may be more elements like this in the future.

Q: What are the cute decorations that look like taiyaki in Karakasa... I want one. Even though they're soggy.

A: General Director: Nakamura Kenji I want merch of them too. I'd like to put them on a bag or something. Those "fish" are actually made of wood, so they dry easily. If Kame-chan had secretly done her job in the middle of the night, she probably wouldn't have been found out,,, That aside, I wondered what they were, so I interviewed Katouno-san from the art department. ...Katouno-san, what are those fish?

Art department: Katouno Youichi They're hanging dolls. I think they're probably the goldfish type. They've been around for a long time, and since they always convey an auspicious feeling, I thought that if something happened around them it would be even more emotional, so I referenced them. General Director: Nakamura Kenji I see,, I get it!

What sports are most likely part of my April 2012’s hobbies?

Roller Derby!

Now, now. You’ll be asking “Hey, Flarah. Why Roller Derby??? Why not martial arts?” BECAUSE SHE ALREADY DOES THEMMM. Let her have fun! Okay, listen, there is a little reference of why I like the idea of April being a roller derby sporting gal!

I totally see April being a freshmeat in the first season, she didn’t have the skills she had before! You can see the lack of coordination, both in fighting and alsoo…dancing…yeah…April is….quite curious when it comes about dancing. BUT, that makes it funny. Freshmeat gals really have to put skill in their performance! That’s why I see first season April barely skating in line, Constantly apologizing while accidentally elbowing people. Falling as if it was self-sabotage without being touched by others, probably having to sit out because she got dizzy and also slapped someone with a water bottle on accident…. But still having that stubborn determination! But what about after she becomes kunoichi? After she has all the time of the world after finishing the whole series and winning their last battle? She would probably rock the races! She is agile, stronger, and more coordinated! She would totally kick-ass!

I remember I had my doubts on my headcanon because she had no balance on ice skating (when she beat Krang with Casey at the ice rink) but she became more agile and stronger through the series (as repeated many times before Lolll), she would be cool on roller derby. Probably if she had a better diet and (because remember they never really got a big meal or healthy meals, that I could remember, when invasion and city in war or Space arc happened) idk, more chance to practice sport she would be a great skater. Not all roller derby player girls have the same psyche, a lot are slim and others are more thick but they have muscle and strength in key points of their bodies like their legs and arms. That’s why now I stand my headcanon since roller derby girls can be both chubby or slim but have the strength to break a bone because their training and diets. But again, mentioning the diet, you guys think they ever ate normal after the series? April would totally start eating more healthier than before. Since they train in martial arts, and they need nutrition. She’s not naturally strong as the turtles because she is not really a mutant (fully mutant) like them. She is a hybrid. Alien hybrid. But still human. She needs to eat like one too.

Also…I don’t believe she is 5’1

If that, I see her body being like… a little bit ripped, in the last seasons due the fact of her nutrition and muscle but also standing the point she is 18-19 at the end of the series because she was 16 and SUPPOSEDLY the invasion happened months later after the first season and they went to Space, trained and all that crap. I don’t think April could become a kunoichi in just a year soooo (still having doubts on this one, but is my version of tmnt 2012 so kets say this is the timeline💔)

I headcanon she is at least 5’5 in the last seasons due cuz she was just a little bit smaller than her dad. It doesn’t make sense. She is also a little bit smaller than Donnie and Casey.

Abiut his story/background -> His mother Tamako travelled around a lot after the fall of Uzushio and settled in Konoha when she found out she was pregnant. Kenshi was born and raised by her until she passed (he was 7), then he was pretty much adopted by Ashi's father, Inuzuka Kita. Kenshi, Ashi and Uchiha Sho become a team under Aburame Shinichi.

After this point there are a few different paths I took with these characters, originally all of them but Kenshi would die by the time the og Naruto timeline starts. But that was making me sad so I switched to a happy version where everyone lives :) Kenshi gets his own genin team too in the future (with Kaen, Miyu and Naoki).

The thing with Kakashi is that he had a crush on him when they were kids, but after the Kyuubi attack Kenshi was very hurt (losing the last of his clan, originally his teacher died that night too, being denied Naruto's care, and just all the tragedy that it was) and Kakashi still went against him, insisting on following Hiruzen's orders, so Kenshi snapped at him and their relationship took a dark turn. Only around shippuden era they would get around talking it out.

And the fun thing is, they are both very strong shinobi with powerful skills and yet when faced with an "ally" they simply don't get along with... they turn to the pettiest, silliest, most (usually) harmless antics possible <3

ATHENA MEAT

She and Sir. Pentious met in an accidental and unconventional way, how to say, less traditional than usual among demons of hell.

Since Athena arrived in hell she went from job to job, each one more vague than the last, she always had the image of someone tough, who only knows how to use brute force to get what she wants or simply exist.

Her longest-lasting job was as a hired thug, anyone could go to her, give her money and send her to kill or hurt someone very badly without reason, some paid her with reasons of hate, others just because they were bored, but money was money and she didn't waste a cent.

You could say that she enjoyed that job halfway, but no, deep down she hated it but it was the only thing that gave her a somewhat "stable" livelihood within her existence. It wasn't until Mr. Pentious arrived with a large ship with the intention of conquering hellish lands, exactly the sector where Athena made her living that she had to fight to not lose the only thing she had.

She did what she could to get on and enter Pentious's globe with the intention of stopping him, or more clearly killing him without scruples and without wandering in her decision, he himself was not going to let some random shark girl try to finish him off so pleased by a fair fight, as any gentleman would do, he accepted. At first it was an intense, fast and very fierce fight, but what was seen as such very soon turned into a chase.

Sir. Pentious, despite his great skill in fighting, could no longer keep up with the shark girl who did not stop following him without breaking a sweat that showed fatigue in her, far from that, she threw bites, tail swipes, scratches, kicks or punches to be able to reach Pentious who, far from reciprocating, only deigned to flee through his ship, begging and screaming at her to stop, that she won.

Even his poor servant eggs tried to hold her back, which was useless, quite useless and even funny to imagine. It was not until Pentious saw himself cornered that he begged for mercy.

— ENOOOUGH! I surrender, don't kill me, I'll do anything! I'm a gentleman, I accept my defeat gladly, just leave me alone and I swear I'm leaving lady... Shark... —

To her, the snake's words sounded like a real lie, she sighed without any other choice, moving away from him, if according to him that would keep him away from her territory she would accept, anyway nothing could go worse for her, or for him.

Who would say that after that interaction she would end up actually working for him, Pentious and she lived together for a long time before arriving at Hazbin Hotel.

Pentious took it upon himself to teach her manners and make her a uniform just for her. It was curious how within the rough, coarse and aggressive personality of the shark lady there was a girl full of a loving character which apparently only he could perceive since she tried very hard to hide it. More than his assistant and bodyguard, she became his companion, a friend. She came to hear Mr. Pentious's deepest thoughts, sorrows and joys, and he hers.

despite being the same person (meaning they technically have never meet or interact at all), conan and shinichi's relationship still exist in some form and there is some interesting inconsistency with the way they are portrayed

conan try to act very affectionate towards shinichi like a kid looking up to a cool teenager. playing along with his scripts, he's pretty close with shinichi; often call him to talk about stuff around him (especially murder cases lol); learning a lot various knowledge (about murder) and skills from him; ect.

but shinichi in return doesn't really act that affectionately to conan as much. he's usually referred to conan as "the kid in glasses" more than the name conan itself and act pretty distant (sometimes annoyed) to conan. hell, even in the movie 1 when ran talk to shinichi on the phone about conan, he act like he doesn't even remember the kid's name. my guy that's the name of your favorite author why would you act like you forgot it (hmmm it is as if he don't wanna say that name hmmmm)

but their dynamic completely flip in most of the non-canon (but still official sources) like merchandise or the inner manga covers. many of the manga inner cover depicted shinichi and conan with brother-like dynamic, with shinichi usually pulling pranks on conan but mostly in an endearing and harmless way; and conan being the annoyed one lol.

Thoughts on Solo Leveling Episode 7: Let's See How Far I Can Go

Excellent ep!!! Spoilery thoughts for the anime, novel, and manhwa before Ragnarok below, CW: blood:

Jinwoo and Jinah are so cute together T-T I love them being close sibs. I mean obviously he helped essentially raise her since he was 14, when their dad disappeared and their mom was too ill to do everything, and then fully did so after he graduated because their mother was comatose, and I just... think about that a lot. This kid who has to raise another kid and never got to finish being a kid himself and had to immediately go into the workforce and give up going to university and he just wants her to have the opportunities he didn't and I just T-T

I feel like I accidentally am vibing with this because I got fried chicken on the way home from errands today, completely unaware this was going to be in the episode.

I love Jinah asking about him and how he's doing. Makes up for calling him a cheapskate >.< I mean to be fair to her, I grew up in a household that struggled for money and I was completely clueless about why we often didn't get stuff, though my parents really tried to spoil us to the extent they could. I do get it. It's realistic in my experience to react this way, especially when the younger person is kept clueless about finances. It's just T-T sometimes. But I do love that she cares about his mental health.

Jinwoo just processing his first murder(s) essentially alone cause he certainly didn't confide in Jinho and he is the older brother with a sister in high school who is just living a normal life and wants her to be happy and so cannot confide in Jinah and it kills me he kind of doesn't do this with anyone, ever T-T Sort of when the Hunters manager warns him, but not on an emotional level. I mean to be fair he's also kind of just, "I resented them for thinking they had a chance against me," which is pretty dark lol But he's obviously really conflicted about that cause these were humans.

Jinwoo has one goal and that is protecting the people he loves. He's pragmatic. I think it's interesting he doesn't focus as much on "they tried to kill me multiple times, it was self-defense and defense of another person". Just... "My family is what's important and I'd do it again if I have to." Which, yes, that's a consideration you can have.

I mean he "could" have incapacitated the Lizards, maybe, rather than killing them, but he's not trained to do that, lacked equipment for it, and in the moment it's hard to process that. It just bothers me he doesn't really do any actual emergency training or whatever other than just building up muscle, EXP, and fighting/movement skills. Even his healing solution is just... shove a potion in people's mouths and it's unclear if he has literally any training in first aid of any kind outside that time he helps Song Chiyul wrap his arm.

Also Jinwoo is still really cute :3 He's animated well.

Hehe learning about the detox, poor guy lol I honestly do love the detail that the system detects alcohol as a harmful substance. It's fun when stories add it in.

Jinah worried about him drinking too much T-T They love each other T-T I love themmm

(just skip down three paragraphs if you don't care about my rant about cellphones lol)

One criticism I have because I always focus on the appearance or absence of mobile phones in modern stories where they should be there: the novel focuses a decent amount on how Jinwoo's cellphone broke in the double dungeon, and he has to get a replacement specifically from the Korean Hunter's Association, and that is completely absent from both the manhwa and the anime, and the anime is compensating weirdly. The novel explains, "Hunter-issue smartphones used specialized technology, so Jinwoo had to put in a request directly with the association." (Vol 1, Chapter 4). So the phone does more than just allowing the Hunter's Association easy access to hunters (I think at one point it's shown it works inside the dungeons, when most technology does not, so I imagine it's powered somehow by mana/essence stones). Jinwoo doesn't have the money to speed up the process, so he has to wait for multiple weeks for them to provide him with a new one, and he forgets to take care of it until I think after he's out of the hospital, so that puts off the process even longer. This means: the association cannot contact him except via landline, and anyone with his cell number cannot do so either, unless, presumably, they have his landline number. In the novel, Jinwoo demands an explanation from Jinho for how Jinho has the number on the presumed landline (it's just called "phone" in the Yen press English translation, I don't know why he wouldn't have his cellphone if he has one in the anime outside his bedroom where Jinah is, and I can't imagine Jinho getting Jinah's cell number, or why the Association would have it other than maybe as an emergency contact, which, again, why would he get that number and I feel like Jinwoo would kill him if he did lol), and Jinho explains that he knows someone at the Association.

Most of this revolves initially around various people trying to contact Jinwoo during this non-cellphone time and not getting to him because he literally does not have a phone and, presumably, they don't have his landline number. The nurse whose number he got tries to contact him via his mobile and nearly gives up by the time he gets his phone back to see her messages. Like many related subplots, this is also part of showing that Jinwoo is just... bad at keeping in touch with people lol I mean he explains, sadly, in the novel, "No one ever calls me anyway." (Vol 1, Chapter 4). But he gave this woman his number and ultimately decides to ignore her/not respond when he sees all the messages she sent him rather than saying literally anything like, "Sorry I was out of touch" or whatever, or just politely turning her down. He does this for most people: most of his interaction with his cellphone is to decide not to use it lol I can see why the manhwa dropped this plot nearly entirely (except for a later modification, which I really like) because it feels clunky. But it creates this weird scenario where... it's South Korea, Jinwoo doesn't have a ton of money but he's doing fine-ish enough to have a giant TV and a computer, and he needs his phone for work. Phones and mobile phones in particular exist in the anime (e.g., we see Woo Jinchul use one, Dongsoo crushes one). So one would ask: why does he not have a cellphone (and when/how did Jinho get his number)? And unrelated: why doesn't his email almost ever get used? The webnovel released in 2016, both would have been commonplace things then; I mean the guy goes onto a forum to ask if other people have leveled up in the novel; it would have been a lot simpler to have Jinho send him an email, though I guess I appreciate the added Jinwoo & Jinah bonding created by keeping this to some extent.

It doesn't ultimately matter in the grand scheme of things. It was really one of the weaker elements of the story and it's really incredibly minor. I can, again, see why the manhwa dropped it and why the anime is side-stepping it when considering what to adapt. But anyway, that was my aside of "how cellphone usage/lack of it when it should be there changes stories". (Also for the record, I think it's good he didn't respond to the nurse, in the end, because that entire plotline is really creepy and probably violates some ethics, but it's also so completely unnecessary).

One thing that's always intrigued me with this series, and I don't know if this is common to the genre or something, maybe it is, is how much buildings are used as collateral. Like it is a simple truth that buildings are a very core part of value for wealthy people and organizations. Real estate is where big money is made. A lot of people in power literally control large chunks of your local real estate. But a similar story would probably just say like... "I can wire x money to you as needed". Instead this just upfront goes, "I'm rich, but here's this really big money item you could have: a building." It's just neat.

O.o Jinwoo doesn't take Jinho's offer. That's interesting. He does take the offer in both the novel and the manhwa, so I'm unsure about why the change? Maybe it combines into his realization that he needs to level up to face enemies past Cerberus and Jinho is a convenient way to do that.

Dongsoo's Japanese voice actor (Junichi Suwabe) has too pretty a voice for Dongsoo alkdjaldja Like he sounds unfairly beautiful aldkjalalkj (Unsurprising for the guy who voiced Viktor in Yuri on Ice) I don't precisely know what I expected him to sound like, and I'd love to see who they picked for the Korean dub, but alkdjal dang. To be fair... he did also voice Jaeha in Yona of the Dawn, and Grimmjow in Bleach, so I'm not that surprised the actor sounds good... I just. Wow. Salud. I don't know that this works for Dongsoo (at least for me) but he does at least sometimes play annoying dudes lol (I love you Jaeha and Grimmjow, and Viktor and Oda, but still aldkjalj).

Stop fatshaming your sister Jinwoo. You deserved that kick even if you did not at all feel it.

Bonding time ruined T-T

The way the buttons on the system get clicked is such a satisfying look/sound.

O.O oh, Jinwoo's learning about the Elixir of Life way early. That's intriguing! In the novel and manhwa he doesn't learn until way later. The anime is really focusing overall on making his goal centrally about caring for his family rather than more about improvement for the sake of improvement (I mean in the novel it feels kind of like 60/40 trade-off with the former being improvement). I get why the change: it makes him more sympathetic. And it also makes him look less strange for trying this difficult dungeon early, and for why he focuses so hard on getting back to it, even before he knew about the elixir. Also gives him a solid goal for season 2.

The gentle piano is lovely, and really sets the mood well. Jinwoo has a lot on the line: his mother's health, caring for his sister, beyond his own survival. The juxtaposition is really good.

As someone who loves Greek myths, I have seen a lot of designs for Cerberus (I have two plushie three-headed dogs, including the Cerberus from Hades the video game). Can't say I'm a fan of this design lol It's fine. It's functional. It's a very good remake of the manhwa design. I guess it just... didn't look as eh. It moves well and works, and the team did a good job. I think just... seeing more of it highlights how I really don't care for the design lol Dubu/the team were really good at designing some monsters, but not others.

The fight is really amazing and well-paced, though. Though it's an interesting change that the system is the one reminding Jinwoo about the gland during this fight, rather than him doing it on his own (he figures it out after discovering the detox in both the novel and manhwa). I like him making the connection on his own. Jinwoo can be a little thick a lot, but he is pretty intelligent, and that was one of his smarter moments. Ah well.

Will never get tired of his eyes glowing in shots. His wounds steaming as they heal is also a neat effect.

He's getting the Elixir of Life recipe early too :3 That makes sense. Would be weird if they bring that up early and don't reference it again for... goodness I don't even know that they'll come back to it before the season ends. I don't think we will, because I wouldn't be surprised if the season ends with the Igris fight. But it gives something to look forward to for maybe season 2.

Also he gets the dog collar :3 BUT... like the manhwa we don't see him put it on lol In the novel he's really nervous about people seeing him wear it, but canonically speaking, particularly since he never seems to take his armor off other than to exchange it for improved gear, he puts this on and wears an invisible dog collar through a good chunk of the story (until he gets a better neckpiece) lol Love it. Ah well. Would have been funny to see animated but they are generally sticking to the manhwa, so. It would be funny if I was proven wrong <.< Have him put on the collar, anime!!

All in all, a really good episode, with some great animation, some more lovely music, and some lovely moments between Jinwoo and Jinah. This continues the trend of modifying stuff in interesting ways. Looking forward to episode 8!
