Its been a while since I've posted a public library graphic novel post. For today I have the graphic novel adaptation of Mary Shelley's Gothic novel Frankenstein.

The publisher is Classical Comics @classcomeducation who produces graphic novels and teaching resources to encourage reading and literacy in schools.

The art is stunning so far. The monster is drawn in shadow to further illustrate the dark nature of the source material. The text is somewhat abridged but comes straight from the original text of Shelley's novel. I've gotten to chapter 2 of the story. Look forward to the rest of the story.

I thought I would share the story I’m currently reading.  I don’t know how I went over twenty-three years without picking up Mary Shelley’s most famous work, but I’m glad I’m reading it now at this point in my life where I’m in the dark void between college and a career.  I am absolutely in love with Mary Shelley’s writing style as well as her gothic story, which is so different from everything it is portrayed as being by common media.  I’ve been lucky enough to have a warm, fireside glow to read by and a lightning storm or two late at night as background noise.  I consider that to be the proper aesthetic for which to read this novel due to the frequent storms that occurred at Geneva when this story was first conceived in 1816.  Along with Mary Shelley, I have also developed a recent obsession with some other famous writers of the Romantic Era, so I hope to create a post about my thoughts on these poets soon (if anyone is interested).

The Modern Prometheus quote of the day is:

“When I looked around I saw and heard of none like me.  Was I, then, a monster, a blot upon the earth, from which all men fled and whom all men disowned?”

Ele não foi gestado, não nasceu, não se desenvolveu como ser humano e mesmo assim existe. Simplesmente É. E justamente por existir tal qual idealizado por seu criador, por ele mesmo foi descartado. Como coisa, como monstro. Ainda assim foi capaz de demonstrar mais traços de humanidade que a própria sociedade que observava e pela qual inicialmente, intrinsecamente, sentia empatia. Pôde assim constatar na pele a contradição da humanidade, o bem e o mal inerentes a ela. Enfim, corrompeu-se.
