snowglobe, a holiday special
Tumblr media
DECEMBER 20, 2023
It’s cold outside; snow is falling everywhere but not with enough force to block the streets or close the stores. Usually, when the weather looks like this, you would call Mick and bake those cookies he loves. He would put on his ‘Emotional Support’ apron and pretend to help. You would tease him about how he never does anything, just there to eat, and he would laugh, eyes lighten up, and say something along the lines of—I just passed you the flour! or whatever ingredient he helped you grab from the shelf ten minutes back.
Sometimes you wonder how you ended up in this place, so desperately in love with your best friend, with butterflies in your stomach when he hugs you, a silly smile on your face when he tells some awful joke, and an enormous fear of telling him, sort of. It doesn’t matter; that won't stop you from baking cookies on such a pretty snowy day.
You: Wanna come over? I’m making cookies
Mick: Very busy right now
Mick: Just do them without me
You: that's alright
Here’s the thing: Mick’s been acting as cold as snow since the last time you saw each other a week ago. Nothing out of the ordinary happened, not that you are aware of; you were watching Hallmark movies together, and he decided to leave abruptly before the movie ended. Maybe it’s just an emergency, he said, but he’s been running away from you for days, your friends confused over the whole thing.
You wonder if he’s noticed. Lately, your friends have spent a lot of time telling you how obvious it looks—shiny eyes paired with a never-ending smile. They have also suggested it’s mutual, which you hope because all you've wanted to do before your family's Christmas party is to confess, but who knows, maybe you’ve all been watching too many movies.
DECEMBER 22, 2023
“Are you sure you didn’t do anything to make him mad?” Alicia, your best friend, asks. She came in to leave some decorations for the party on Sunday, but one life update lent to another and of course, the Mick situation came up.
“It doesn't even seem like he’s mad at me,” You say because it’s true, you’ve known Mick long enough to know how he acts when mad,  “he’s just ignoring me.”
She sighs. “Then why don’t you ask him what’s wrong?”
You’ve asked yourself that a couple of times, but the answer is still not clear, usually is as easy as walking down the street to his house but this time the thought overwhelms you. “Because I'm scared?” You answer, out of breath. “I don't know. I’m focusing on the party, especially because Mom doesn’t come back until tomorrow evening.”
“Honestly, my suggestion is for you to ask him before the party.”
You sigh, knowing she’s right. The Christmas party is a tradition your families started eleven years ago, after Alicia, Gina, Esteban, Mick, and you decided to become inseparable at one of Mick’s birthday parties. This year it will be hosted at your family home, and with your mom away in Germany for a work conference, you’ve had your friends come around and help. They’ve all shown up but Mick. What the hell is his problem?
“I know Ali but,” Your phone starts ringing, Mickey is displayed on your screen with a picture of Mick carrying Angie. Alicia rolls her eyes and encourages you to take it with her head. “Hello?”
“Hi. I'm panicking a bit,” he says, the background noise lets you know he's in his car.
“Why?” You ask, forgetting you were having a crisis on this. “Is everything okay?”
He sighs. “It’s embarrassing, but I have no idea what to get your mom,” he says, and you laugh. Last year, you were having this exact crisis about Corinna.
You hum, thinking, “She wanted new pedals for her bike. Loved some she saw in Bike World; you’ll have to drive a bit, but I’ll send you the pic.” You put your phone away, change the call to speaker, and open messages, sending the picture your mom sent you a month ago. “There you go.”
“You are a lifesaver.”
You smile, letting out a laugh. “I know, idiot.”
“Bye, love you,” he says. Your calls always end like this; it’s a habit, so you mutter Love you back and hang up.
Alicia is staring at you, a grin on her red lips. “I hate both of you,” and she laughs, grabbing her keys and purse, about to leave. You’re somehow dumbfounded.
“What?”
“Bye, love you. Love you,” she mimics, and you feel heat rise up your cheeks. “You guys really need to talk; I’m done dealing with him too.”
“What? Ali, it’s a ha-”
“I’m coming back at six”
“Alicia!”
“Just ask him!” She closes de door before you can even ask her to come back.
DECEMBER 24, 2023
Needless to say, you didn’t talk with Mick on the 23rd. Too busy dealing with the party and, as Esteban said, too busy avoiding the topic.
Now it’s 7 p.m., warm lights tint the house while friends and family sway along the music in the background. Mick has been around since ten in the morning, bringing presents, a couple of ingredients that your mom was missing, and decorations, which he then helped put together. Now he’s just in full black attire, wine in hand, singing along to the song playing. Once again, you're too busy in your world to notice him approaching you.
“You always know which songs to play,” he says. Because he knows it’s your playlist reproducing. You know that’s one of his favorite songs.
“I try my best. But I also know it’s one of your favorites,” you answer, and he hums. There’s a void between you, one that hasn't been there before. It's not the tension when you fight or the longing when you're upset; it's not the excitement of seeing each other after months of traveling or the mischief when you prank your friends. It’s different—something that has been building itself for months—and you are too oblivious to understand what it is.
“You look beautiful,” Mick says, not looking at you but at his drink. He’s looked at you enough tonight, he thinks. You look up, suddenly feeling an outrageous urge to kiss him. Try and see if that’s the answer to all your questions.
He’s faster though, clears his throat, and says, “I’m going for more cookies.”
And he leaves. Your eyes stay on his back as he takes one cookie from the snack table. See him hum to the taste. You smile, bittersweet, What is going on, Mick? You want to shout at him, tell him in a million different ways how confusing all of this is, but that’s a talk for tomorrow; you’ve decided, you can't escape it any longer then.
"Shatz,” Someone calls and then says your name.
“Hm, yes, mom?” You ask, and it’s time to eat.
[ 10 minutes later ]
You are in the middle of dinner, or gossiping time, as Gina calls it, when Aunt Adelaide starts asking each one of you—the single, young members of the family and friends—about relationships. It’s not your favorite part, but a lot of fun commentary comes out of it.
Hearing your name, you know it's your turn. “Do you have anyone special yet? Maybe a secret boyfriend you don't want to tell us about?"
You laugh, “No, no. But I hope someone comes along this year.” First, you have to get over Mick, you think, and laugh a bit more.
“I have a neighbor I could introduce you to, dear. He’s a lovely young man.” She always has someone to present you to; it’s surprising. You try to go on dates with them, but they never end up working.
“I’ll think about it.” You say this as the loud sound of silver hitting the floor calls everyone’s attention.
Mick abruptly stands up. “I’m sorry,” he says as he picks up his fallen fork. He looks uncomfortable, like he’s had enough of the food, the music, or the topic. “Excuse me, I’m going for another one.”
The table has fallen silent. Aunt Adelaide is looking at you in amusement, a playful grin on her face. Someone nudges your shoulder, and you know it’s Alicia. Her eyes stand on a strange middle ground between confused and knowing, tilting her head in encouragement, like she always does. You also stand up, not so abruptly, but now everyone looks at you expectantly. “I’m going. Excuse me.”
You follow Mick to the kitchen; thankfully, it's far enough from the dining room that no one will bother.
“Mick?” You call once you’re there. His head is on his hands, and he is murmuring inaudible words to himself. "Mick, what is going on?"
He looks up, his hair messy. He’s overthinking, and you don't know what to do. You feel lost looking at him, far away from his thoughts and feelings. “What do you mean? Everything is alright.”
“You don’t look alright,” you say, shaking your head. “You’ve been acting strange.”
“No, I haven't. We’re alright,” he lies once again, picking on his thumbs.
You sigh, knowing this is when you talk about it—no script, no thinking, just questions and hope for answers. Whatever is budging him has his anxiety running in full force. “No, you’re not, and we're not; I have no idea what just happened, and you're acting as if you barely know me."
He takes a deep breath, runs his fingers through his hair, and looks at you with his deep blue eyes. You see questions being asked but don’t understand how to answer them. “It’s nothing; I'm just. It’s hard to explain; you won't understand.”
“I will try to understand then, like I always do.” You promise, taking two steps forward, close enough to reach out and hold him, "Just please talk to me."
“I don’t want to mess things up between us,” he says, sounding afraid. It reminds you of the time sixteen-year-old Mick broke your favorite perfume by accident. He didn’t want to tell you, too afraid you would stop talking to him. You really hope he didn’t break anything, material or not.
“You won't. I will be here for you.”
“I just want,” he stops himself once again. His eyes never leave yours, so you open yours a bit, waiting, listening to whatever he has to say, and it seems to work because he just says, “You."
“What?” You blank, not knowing what to say or do, not knowing if you understood correctly or if it’s the movie's effect once again. You see the exact moment in which he panics.
“No, fuck. I’m sorry, I.” He looks everywhere but your eyes, searching for an exit. Your first instinct is to grab his hand, keeping him where he is.
“I could,” you say slowly, looking at your now-intertwined hands. “I could be misunderstanding all of this, but, Mick,” you say, looking at him. He’s looking back, hope in his gorgeous sky blue eyes. “I like you, but no, not even. Mick, I’m so in love with you it hurts. I’ve been wanting to tell you for a while, but then you disappeared. You didn’t want to see me; you were acting different, and I got so worried, but I think...”
“That we are both idiots,” he says, a small smirk growing on his lips.
“Yes, yes, we are.”
He smiles and brings his free hand to your cheek, says your name like it’s meant for him to say forever. “I’m in love with you too, so much. I got so scared when I realized that I didn't just like you, that I couldn’t hide it anymore. And then our friends started saying how obvious I was being.”
“Same here,” you say, laughing. He moves his hand, pulling you in for a warm hug. It feels different than any other you’ve shared; the last two pieces of a puzzle you’ve been building together, finally finding their place. It’s a breath of fresh air. Mick’s hands are all around you, softly caressing your back, his head buried in your neck, leaving a small peck before distancing himself enough so he can see your face. You want to ask if it's appropriate to kiss him now.
But he's the first to talk. “Quick question."
“Shoot."
“Do I need a mistletoe to kiss you?” He asks, and you laugh loudly. Shake your head in embarrassment. Oh, how you love this man.
“As much as I enjoy the tradition, all you, Mick Schumacher, have to do is ask,” and now it's his turn to laugh, brings you closer while doing so.
“Can I please kiss you?"
You pretend to think about it and decide to tease him a little bit: “Is that what you asked for Christmas?"
“It’s the exact thing I asked Santa Claus for."
“Then merry Christmas, Mick.”

Mrs. Seresin was the only thing Jake didn't brag about. Don't get me wrong, it's not because he is not proud of you. Quite the opposite.
He's so damn happy to have you in his life that he wants to treasure you. Keep you to himself.
And there hasn't been a lot of time to talk about each other's lives during this mission. Phoenix wants to fix this matter, actually, suggesting all the members that a day at the beach could be a good opportunity to get to know each other.
Unbeknownst to you, Jake had agreed to meet with the rest this Saturday, have something to drink at the Hard Deck, play some Dogfight football… Just a bunch of friends spending a normal day at the beach without having to worry about the safety of the planet. But that plan is thrown out the window when you, Y/n Seresin, the love of Jake’s life, ring the bell of Jake and Javy’s shared house.
“Sunshine? Oh my god, what are you doing here?” Jake says, while hugging you tightly. It has only been a few weeks since the last time he saw you, but it feels like a lifetime away from you.
“Heard that my handsome hubby had chalked up another kill, saved the day and also the famous Maverick. I had to come here and celebrate!” you explain, covering his face with kisses, Jake scrunching his nose due to the pure happiness of the moment.
“Stop, you’re gonna make me blush, Mrs. Seresin”
“Where’s Javy?” you ask, entering the house and leaving your small suitcase in the bedroom.
“I don’t know, he said he was gonna meet Mickey and Reuben to buy something. Don’t ask me why because I can’t remember” he confesses, laughing.
“Oh my, Jake Seresin, aren't you a bit young to be forgetting things?” you joke as you lay down on the bed, tired from the flight from Austin. You had been staying with your sister-in-law and her two kids for a few days, not wanting to be alone when you found out how dangerous this mission was going to be.
“It’s your fault. Do I have to remind you how I forgot my own name when I first saw you?” he recalls, sitting in the bed next to you, his hand quickly moving to your hair, and moving some strands out of your face. “You still have that effect on me, Sunshine”
You smile, satisfaction running through your body as you realize that no matter how much time passes, Jake will always be completely and utterly in love with you. “I saw the beach while in the taxi. This place is amazing, Jake. And you are definitely sunbathing without me, huh? Look at that golden skin” you poke his cheek, making him giggle like a teenager.
Everyone saw Hangman, the aviator.
But only you were able to see Jake, the loving husband.
“Want me to take you to the beach, sunshine? We can take a bath and go for a walk.” he offers, kissing your forehead.
“I’d love to”
-
“Is that woman talking to Hangman?” Phoenix questions out loud while leaving the cooler that Mickey, Reuben and Javy had bought earlier to fill with drinks, in the sand.
“Maybe he is talking to the poor woman,” Fanboy suggests, moving his sunglasses down his nose to try and understand the whole situation. “Should we go rescue her?”
“She doesn’t seem uncomfortable, though” Payback adds, the whole squad standing there like a bunch of sentinels, ready to jump into action if the lady needed to be liberated from the blonde cowboy.
Seconds later, Hangman is throwing the poor girl over his shoulder and walking straight to the water. “Oh god, he’s gonna get smacked,” Bob laughs, opening his blue folding chair and sitting down to enjoy the show.
“JAKE SERESIN PUT ME DOWN” you yell, trying to leave your husband’s arms, only to be thrown in the water. You stand up, your sundress now completely stuck to your body. Thank god you are wearing your swimsuit underneath. “If I didn’t vow to love you for the rest of my life I would kill you”
“Did she say ‘vow’ as in ‘wedding vow’?" Rooster asks, looking at the rest of his team. “Man, I don’t understand anything”
Javy, who had been trying to get the beach umbrella from the trunk after it got stuck, walks happily to the rest, wondering why the heck are they standing there like… well, idiots. “Guys what are you- Y/N SERESIN?”
“JAVY!” the woman, who now everyone knows it’s a Seresin, runs to Javy, almost tackling him to the ground. "I'm so glad you're okay"
"What are you guys doing here?" Questions Hangman to the group, joining his wife and his best friend.
"Dude, beach day. We told you" Fanboy looks at Hangman, wondering if the pilot really had forgotten about it or was just messing with them.
"Excuse my husband, he's having trouble remembering things lately" you tease him, earning a glare from Jake.
"Husband" mutters Bob.
"Husband?" asks Phoenix.
"Husband!" confirms Javy.
"I'm Y/N. We've been married for three years now. And no, I wasn't forced to marry him, Rooster. I know you were about to say that" you say to Bradley, leaving him shocked.
"I was gonna ask that, yes. How did you know? And how did you know I was Rooster"
"Oh, cause I'm good, Rooster. I'm really good" you retort, making Jake laugh.
"Oh no, there's two of them. We're doomed" Bob says, sitting down again.
"I'm guessing Javy was the best-man?" Javy nods at Phoenix, answering her question. "Well, Mrs. Seresin, would you like to play some Dogfight football with us?"
"I don't even know what's that but teach me, and I will play" you say, taking off the sundress and stealing Jake's sunglasses from him.
He looks at you, wondering what had he done in a past life to be this lucky. Good job, good friends, and the perfect wife. His own personal sunshine.

Bradley would never get sick of the sight of this. Of her in the barn, wearing a sundress and his fucking Stetson. All she was doing was leaning against a stable door, feeding Goose a sugar cube.
(Goose was Bradley's dad's horse. They'd gotten him at two years old from auction just months before Nick Bradshaw sadly passed. Bradley had kept Goose going for the better part of twenty eight years. He was too old to ride now, and nobody loved him more than Bradley's girlfriend).
Bradley couldn't stop himself from sliding his arm around her shoulders and pulling her in for a kiss. "Ready to go?"
"Let me say goodbye to Goose," she said and pulled the Stetson from her head to place it on his own.
The way Bradley watched her, it could only be described as having hearts for eyes. He watched as she held Goose's nose and lifted it, giving the little pink patch on his nose a kiss. "We'll be back soon, buddy," she said as his nose came to rest on her shoulder.
"C'mon," Bradley said and gently pulled her away. If he had any competition in this world, it was Goose.
Bradley helped her get into Bo's saddle. He didn't have to help her, but he always liked to. As soon as her feet her in the stirrups and she had leaned down to kiss him, he moved on, easily swinging himself up into Rusty's saddle.
They set off, riding side by side away from the Bradshaw ranch. It had been his parents before his. When his father died, Pete Mitchell (who had earnt the nickname from the rodeo) stepped up for a few years. Bradley couldn't remember when Pete left, he didn't even remember him being there. But Bradley had been the man of the house for damn near twenty years.
When his mother died, he was all alone on the ranch. Well, until she came along.
She, who brought that sparkle of light back into his life. She, who Bradley loved with everything that he had. She rode beside him, barely holding onto Bo. She didn't need to, not when he would loyally follow Rusty.
When they got to the lake, there was a series of whoops and hollers. Bradley jumped down from Rusty first. He knew she didn't need help getting out of Bo's saddle; he just liked standing behind her, pulling her against him for a brief second.
"Nice hat!" Jake 'Hangman' Seresin called towards her.
There was a time where she would have been so embarrassed that she rushed to place the hat back onto Bradley's head, but she just grinned at Jake. "Thanks," she said, tongue poking between her teeth as Bradley tied the horses up. "Stole it."
Jake rolled his eyes, but there was no malice behind it. She took her seat beside Bob, gratefully accepting the water he offered her. It wasn't often the squad got to do things like this. Jake and Natasha were both on the rodeo circuit and Bob, Javi, Mickey and Reuben all worked on ranches in the area.
Bradley sat down beside her and immediately pulled her closer, planting a kiss to her cheek.
"Are we gonna see you on the circuit this year, Bradshaw?" Nat asked from where she laid in the sun, her own hat covering her head.
Although Bradley (Or Rooster, as they called him on the circuit) was born and raised for the rodeo, he gave it up. Once his mom died and he was alone running the ranch, he just couldn't. There was far too much to do. Besides, he didn't miss the buckle bunny's begging for him to take them back to his Bronco.
"Yeah, Bradshaw," his girl said, but it didn't take him by surprise. She loved watching him do what he did best.
He finally took the hat from her head and placed it on her own. "You want to watch, pretty girl?" He asked, his mouth close to hers. They kissed and, well, a little more, only pulling away when they heard the group of late twenties/thirty year olds shouting 'ew!'

When an enjoyable night at the Hard Deck turns sour when a creep decides to waltz his way to you, Jake Seresin comes to the rescue!
Tumblr media
reblogs and comments appreciated <3
A slow Friday night at the Hard Deck. The team was lounging around the pool table, bantering with one another, a drink in hand and the slightly warm atmosphere from the tipsiness the booze has granted them. You and the others arrived around 8, right after an important meeting with Mav before he excused himself for the night and went home with Iceman, wishing you all to enjoy your weekend. So, naturally, you all poured into the Hard Deck and continued to bother Penny with horrible jokes while she rolled her eyes.
Somehow, you all seemed to stay even after rush hour finished, and only your team and a couple of other patrons were milling about. You lean to your left, resting your head on Jake's shoulder as he crosses his arms and says something about baseball to Mickey. The blonde smirks as he reaches a hand around your hip and pulls just slightly closer. You smile, taking another sip from your cup, letting the alcohol warm you.
You squint when your sip ends short and realize your depleted drink before your eyes finding Jake’s beer bottle almost empty. Moving from your boyfriend's hand, you reach over to take his bottle and your cup with you, Jake raises a brow before you stroll away. “I’ll get us more,”
He smiles, before promptly returning to his conversation. You grin, before reaching the bar where Penny is drying a glass and setting your cup and bottle on the counter. “Another bottle for Jake and a refill for me,”
“You got it, Robin,” She nods, before taking both of them and going to do her work. You lean over the bar, forearms resting your weight as your eyes roam about the abundance of bottles and decorations strewn about the Hard Deck. A familiar tune passes through you as you begin to hum, waiting for your drink, before the hair on your neck rises and you snap to your right, spotting a man eyeing you, a smirk on his lips, before he decides to make his way towards you. He’s supporting a worn-down flannel with ripped jeans, a futile attempt on trying to style himself. A civilian in their mid-forties-ish, unkept stubble is as clear as the man's drunkenness.
‘Oh great,’ You roll your eyes, huffing slightly before you stand straight, arms crossed, the annoyance already creeping up your spine. And to no one's surprise, the guy stops beside you, clearly already too drunk for his own dignity, a lopsided smirk while he drops his cup on the bar. By no means are you of a smaller stature than your peers, in fact; Jake is only a couple inches above you and if you were wearing shoes with a bit more on its heels, you'd be the same height as your boyfriend, the same build too. The same predicament currently with the man, only a bit taller than you, but that only seems to fuel him on as he tries to straighten himself, puffing out his chest.
“Hey there,” A sultry undertone in the man's voice has you swallowing a bile, so you reply to his words with a tight smile.
“Evening, sir,” You promptly nod, navigating into a more polite route. He sways in your direction, making you lean back to avoid the man, trying to give this person's intoxicated brain a fucking hint. “Can I help you with something?”
“Yeah, actually you can,” that irksome smirk is back. Your smile tightens. His arm almost brushes yours. “Can you help me to your number-”
“Is there a problem here?” You jump slightly when you feel a familiar arm loop around your middle, pulling you to the right, before you glance and spot Jake’s dangerous grin aimed at the man.
The creep halts slightly before he sneers. “This your man?”
“Yeah, and what of it?”  You bite, finding your courage beside Jake’s presence. The man scoffs, disgust written on his face, before he mutters under his breath.
“Fucking sissies…”
Your simmering anger accelerates into a boil, your eyes growing wide with a retort at the end of your tongue before Jake’s hand cups your jaw, cutting you off from shouting at the man and pressing his lips against yours. You let out a small confused noise before Jake starts to prod between your lips, asking for entrance, at which slides in and tastes your tongue. Between your boyfriend's solid hold and the arm around your hips, dizziness begins to envelop you, intoxicated by Jake’s sudden movements.
The kiss ends with Jake softly pulling back, before nudging your head to rest against his chest. “Don't be a hypocrite, would you? Last time I checked you were hitting on a man as well,”
You could practically feel Jake’s burning smirk. You can't help but stand in shock, face as warm as it has been this whole night, and shifting slightly to bury your face deeper into Jake’s embrace. Your boyfriend chuckles lightly, before turning back to the man. “But this one is taken, so why don't you kindly fuck off?”
The man choked on his words, before slamming a couple of bills onto the bar and storming out of the bar. The sound of the door shifting relieves your tension, slowly raising your head. Your eyes meet your boyfriend, a warm smile on his lips. He raises a hand and pushes a couple of stray fringes, arranging them back properly into your hairstyle.
“Thank you, Jake. That guy is way over his head. You did all of us a favor,” Penny’s voice snaps you out and you move slightly apart from Jake, though you already miss his warmth. Jake laughs and shakes his head.
“All in a day's work, Penny,” He winks, quickly snatching your refill and his beer, before turning to walk back to the squad table. You nod a thanks towards Penny before catching up to Jake, bumping his side. He moves his arms, exaggerating as if he was going to drop the beverages.
“Whoah! Careful princey,” He chuckles, swaying slightly.
You roll your eyes fondly. “I had him, y’know,”
“Oh I know baby,” You snap to his face, eyes sharp, which makes Jake let out another surprised laugh. “I mean it! I do! I don't doubt that you’d probably sock that guy in the face,”
“But we’re not trying to get kicked out by our dear Penny, right?” He raises an expectant brow, which makes you huff, a small smile tugging at the edge of your lips. The two of you slide back into your previous seats, discreetly shuffling to press against your boyfriend. You knew he simply smiled, wrapping an arm around your middle. What you didn't expect was his breath fanning against your neck as he leaned in.
“Besides, I don't get many chances to show others you're mine.”
Your face heats. Scrambling to push Jake’s mouth away from getting any closer. The room suddenly grew hotter, a steady stream of arousal moving through your body. “Jake…”
Jake laughs, patting your shoulder lightly. There's a light dusting of pink on his cheeks, most likely from the liquor. “I know, Robin! I know!”
His laugh cuts short, before that devilish smirk is back on your boyfriend's enticing lips. “Later, then…”
Requests are open! (slow res)

In the episode that features Monica’s funeral, Frank gives a speech. He goes up and says with as much love as he can about how Monica changed his life. How she taught him to live. It’s weirdly sweet for Frank. But the moment I wanted to talk about is that the cameras centers Ian as Frank says this.
Tumblr media
He looks contemplative. Like there’s a vision in his mind that he can’t ignore. That vision is Mickey. There’s probably regret and guilt racking through him as well. Regret that he left that man he loves at the border. Probably wondering what would have happened if he had just gone with him. Because he wants to be with Mickey. Guilt that the man sitting next to him is nowhere near that level. Even though he wants to try with him.
Mickey caused a spark in Ian. A coursing love that consumed him even when they were at odds. He was safety and a thrill all at the same time for Ian. Ian found someone he was sexually, romantically, and platonically compatible with. Mickey held him tight when he walked him out of that jail cell. Mickey held him tight before he walked into that hospital. Mickey crawled into bed, said sorry for disappearing for a while, kissed his head. Mickey forgave him for all the things he did whilst manic. Things that hurt Mickey in ways that Ian never wanted to do. Because he understood that Ian wasn’t in the right frame of mind.
Tumblr media
There’s a parallel between Frank/Monica and Ian/Mickey. Not because they’re similar. But because they’re opposites. Yes, Mickey taught Ian how to live. Yes, Mickey was the light that Ian needed. He was everything that Frank described Monica as for Ian. But the difference is the way Ian and Mickey take care of each other.
Frank and Monica encouraged self-destruction in each other. Frank always had this fear when Monica would be on her meds. Almost like he was afraid that if she was stable she would realize the kind of man he is and leave for good. Of course, she’s still a grown woman with agency. She was in charge of her mental health and chose not to take care of it and let it run amok. But seeing how excited Frank got when she was acting “crazy” emboldened her further to not take her meds. Monica encouraged Frank’s drinking and drug use. In that speech he gave, Frank revealed that it was Monica that introduced him to hard drugs. The rest is history. She liked him getting high or drunk as she saw it as thrilling. Like Monica, Frank is an adult who had the ability to get sober. He never took it though. A lot of that stems from the “fun” he had with Monica.
Tumblr media
The main difference is that Mickey and Ian want to be the best versions of each other. And they encouraged the other to do the same. When Ian was diagnosed with bipolar, Mickey was the most supportive and caring of his situation. Even when they went into married life, we see subtle signs that Mickey still makes sure that Ian is taking care of himself. There’s even a deleted scene where he checks in on Ian; asking if he was okay, noting that his husband was slipping into a depressive episode, made sure he was taking his medication. Unlike Frank, Mickey isn’t afraid of Ian having a stable footing. He wants that because he doesn’t want Ian to suffer. Ian can talk Mickey down like no one else can. With both the situation with Terry and Mickey’s anxiety about moving to the West Side, Ian offered emotional support. He listened to his husband, knew all the ways to calm Mickey. He doesn’t want Mickey to spiral and to instead stay afloat. Unlike Monica, Ian doesn’t encourage the destructive side of Mickey for his own fun. He wants the happy Mickey who feels comfortable with voicing his emotions.
Mickey and Ian have their problems. Every couple does. Sometimes, they don’t handle it the right way. But, when the storm passes, they take a breath and talk to one another. Making it clear they still love each other. They accept each other at their worst. They encourage each other at their best.

uptown girl // mickey "fanboy" garcia
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
soft kisses shared in the bar light after a game of pool
she would do anything for her nerd boy. except maybe meet his friends in a crowded bar with a pool table where she can make a fool of herself in front of all of her boyfriend's friends. it's a good thing that mickey is a good teacher.
pairing: mickey "fanboy" garcia x female! reader
author's note: he had like four lines and i was prepared to go to war for this man.
the hard deck hummed with activity as she parked her car, flicking off the manual headlights before glancing at her phone, which was pinned to it's magnetic holder on the dashboard.
it wasn't too late to text mickey and tell him something had come up, was it?
as she was thinking it, as if mickey could hear her, her phone buzzed, the screen lighting up with a text message from her beloved.
mickey: hey sweet girl, are you almost here? everyone is so excited to meet you!
she sighed, switching the music off and cutting the engine, sitting in the dark car and waiting for the heated seat to lose its warmth. her relationship with mickey garcia was still very new.
they had only been together for a few months, having met at an eighties rock-and-glow dance night. she was standing by the stage, dressed in skinny jeans and a white t-shirt that glowed fluorescent in the blacklight, an old-timey glass sprite bottle in her hands as she sang bonnie tyler at the top of her lungs. he was the best dancer there, with a goofy personality that captivated her from the moment he grabbed her hand and pulled her into a slow dance to 'heaven in your eyes'.
deciding to rip the band-aid off, she grabbed her tote bag from the passenger seat and slipped out of the car, sea breeze cutting deep and sending a chill down her spine as she walked up the weathered steps to fightertown's navy bar.
her sweet boy was impossible to miss, his smile lighting up the whole bar as he stood next to the pool table, his short-sleeved button shirt untucked from his crisp blue jeans.
as nervous as she was, it was hard not to smile when she saw him, watching as he leaned over the table to delicately knock a striped ball into one of the pockets in the corner of the table. after the shot, he looked up, and infectious grin breaking out over his face when he saw her.
"hey, pretty girl." he beamed, passing his pool cue to a woman in a black turtleneck and jeans before he sidestepped the table and pulled his lover into an embrace. "i'm glad you came."
"hi, mickey." she smiled, kissing him softly. "i've missed you."
"are you ready to meet everyone? or do you want something to eat first? i can order you a plate of onion rings-"
she laughed softly, taking his hand in hers. she loved how attentive and sweet he was, always trying to dote on her whenever he could. when they were together, he hated letting her pay for things, even if it meant dipping into his not-enormous navy salary "mickey, it's okay. i have time to meet your friends before i order."
with a soft kiss to the side of her head, mickey looped his arm around her shoulders and they headed towards the pool table. "guys, this is y/n. my girlfriend."
she underestimated how much her heart would swell at hearing mickey say those words. hearing someone declare to the world that they had chosen her.
"y/n, this is natasha, jake, robert, bradley, hallie and javy."
"hello!" she squeaked, waving at the group. "nice to finally meet you guys, mickey has told me so much about you guys."
robert laughed, reaching out to shake her hand. "and mickey has told us even more about you. fanboy loves to talk."
she never though she'd meet someone who talked as much as she did until she met mickey. they could talk for hours, about anything and everything. when they were together, she suspected it would drive the people around them insane. except she didn't know how his friends would react, what they would think of her.
they made small talk for a little, while some of the guys and natasha all took their turns at the pool table. it was team game, although the teams seemed to be a little unbalanced in terms of skill level. mickey had pulled her into his lap, gently rubbing circles on the skin underneath her peasant top.
jake leaned over the table, his pool cue hitting the white ball, white harmlessly dusted the side of the ball he was aiming for, plunking down in the basket.
"god damn it, hangman!" javy groaned
natasha laughed, high-fiving bradley. "sucks to suck, bagman!"
mickey shifted in his chair, hands running up her sides. "our turn, pretty girl. do you want to try?"
she turned back to him, a small glint of panic in her eyes as she took his hand in hers. "i'm not very good."
bradley snorted, taking a sip of his budweiser. "we're miles ahead of hangman, you could break the table and we'd still be ahead of them."
"go on." mickey encouraged, pressing a soft kiss to her shoulder blade. "i'll guide you."
she stood up, still clutching his hand in hers as she moved towards the pool table. hallie passed her a pool cue, and she stood nervously by the table until mickey came up behind her. his hands were warm through her jeans, his back against hers as he guided her into the correct position.
"you got this, sweet girl." he said quietly, kissing the side of her head gently, his hands over hers on the cue. "it's a straight shot into the basket."
mickey stepped back, his hands still on her waist as she took the shot, hitting with just enough force for the white ball to send the orange solid ball into the basket.
one fell swoop.
mickey's side of the pool table started to cheer, and her cheeks flushed pink as she turned around to wrap her arms around mickey, hiding her face from the crowd.
"great job, my darling girl." mickey laughed, kissing her softly. "are you sure you haven't played pool before."
"my grandfather had a table in his basement." she said sheepishly, leaning the cue against the table to she could slip her hands into mickey's back pockets. "but i haven't played a proper game since I was twelve. he sold the table when they sold the house."
"maybe you'll have to play more often." mickey said, leaning in to kiss her softly. "i love you."
"i love you too."

*September 26, 2003* ~Later That Evening~ "So, the answer would be 783?" Sarah appears unsure. You give her a reassuring nod, "Exactly. Great job. You know, as much as I dread going to work every day, I'm so glad I don't have to do homework anymore." The two of you are sitting on her bed agonizing over her algebra homework.
As she piles up all of her papers into her folder, you wander around her room, examining all of the little touches that make the room hers. There is a simple, yet strong feminine touch to her room. A clear representation of the latest teen trends, and yet it is all a reflection of her youthful vibrance.
The poster in the corner of the room catches your eye, "You really do love Halican Drops huh?" "It's my dream to see them in concert one day," she says with a sparkle in her eye. "I think we should go sometime," you wink at her.
She jumps off of her bed, "Are you serious?"
"Yeah, I saw them once live and they are amazing. It would be even more fun to go with another fellow superfan."
Her enthusiastic expression turns to a more solemn one. Extending your arm out to her you bring her back over to the bed to sit down, "What's wrong Sarah?"
She pauses and takes a deep breath, "My dad is a good man...but he's been through a lot. He has been hurt a lot. Uncle Tommy has tried to get him to date, but nothing ever comes of it. That's why I know you are different."
"W-what?" Your brain stutters for a moment, struggling to process what is happening.
"I know you slept over last night. And before you freak out about that, I just want you to know that it makes me happy to see my dad as optimistic as he's been. He's come out of his shell again. I swear to God everything we talk about somehow comes full circle back to you too. The other day I said I want to go to Disney World and he told me how you have a baby picture of yourself with Mickey Mouse on your fridge. That was my first signal that my suspicions have been accurate."
Leaning forward, you take her hands into yours once more, "Sarah...if any of this makes you uncomfortable at all please tell me. I would never want to overstep or make you feel like-"
"Hey hey hey, I'm so happy about this. Since you moved in a year ago, you've slowly brought my dad back to me. I can see the way he looks at you, it's kind of how he looks at me...but different."
Tightening your grasp around her hands, you draw her into a hug. She settles into your embrace and whispers, "Just don't hurt him." Kissing the top of her head you quietly express, "I'll keep him safe I promise."
»»————- ♡ ————-«« The rest of the night is spent waiting on Joel to get home. You and Sarah intensely watched the clock as the hours passed by, wondering when he'd get back.
Finally, the door-knob to the front door begins to shake and you can hear Joel mutter a curse word when he realizes it's locked. "Well, you locked the door for once, good job," he acknowledges Sarah once inside. "That's because I made her," you stare down at her. Nothing can hide the disappointment on her face. She'd wanted so badly to spend the day celebrating her dad, and nothing had gone according to plan.
The young girl kindly reprimands her father for coming home past the time he'd promised AND for forgetting to bring home a cake, she makes him swear to make up for it tomorrow. Eager to move past the awkwardness and save Joel a little embarrassment, you signal to Sarah to give him his watch.
"Fixed it for you," her hopeful eyes look to his in search of commendation and gratitude. He tricks her into thinking that the watch wasn't properly fixed and you watch the two of them with such admiration, for the beautiful bond they have. The ability to have a deep father, daughter relationship and yet be each other's best friends was so endearing. You never want to come between them, but you'd be honored to have a front-row seat to their little family unit.
"Where'd you get the money for this?" He inquires.
"Drugs. I sell hardcore drugs," she says in all seriousness.
You and Joel laugh in unison, your eyes meeting briefly before turning your attention back to his daughter.
"Actually," she rests her head on your shoulder, "Y/N helped."
There is a pleased look in his eye, as his gaze meets yours. It's as if some element of peace washed over him and pure contentment settled into his rough features. It's been years since a woman showed him this much kindness, and you'll be damned if that job ever goes to someone else. »»————- ♡ ————-«« Sarah had fallen asleep to a movie, her head laying in Joel's lap. The two of you kept stealing glances throughout the movie. You feel his fingertips graze your shoulder and you turn to him, resting your head on the back of the sofa.
"Hi Joel," your pupils dilate.
"Hi beautiful," his eyes twinkle, fixated on studying every detail of your face.
Very quickly, you learn that your conversations do not need words to feel meaningful. The tilts of your heads, the shrugs of your shoulders, the serene sighs of surrender when you feel completely at ease with one another. Both of you are soothed by each other's presence and it is evident even in the voids of quietness. In those moments you can fully savor the company of the other and thrive off of the respect and admiration that radiates from you. There is a feeling of safety and confidence that stays between you and has existed since the beginning of your friendship.
The sharp ringing of the phone snaps you both back to reality. He answers it. You can't make out the words but can tell it is Tommy on the other line. With a heavy sigh, Joel falls back against the couch in defeat.
Damn it Tommy. You got yourself locked up again, didn't you?
Joel turns to you, jaw clenched with annoyance, forehead furrowed in disappointment. He wants to stay here with you a little while longer.
You offer to remain at the house and make sure Sarah is taken care of while he picks up Tommy. He takes her upstairs to tuck her into her bed. Dragging himself back downstairs, he rolls his neck from one side to the other in an endeavor to relieve the kinks. Stifling a yawn, you meet him halfway in the living room.
"We'll be here when you get back."
Although his expression was pensive, it eases slightly as you pull him out of his thoughts and back into the present with you.
"Thank you for staying with Sarah. Hell, sleeping over two nights in a row...things are getting serious." He gives you a goofy smile.
"Go!" You let out a short laugh and shove him out the front door. »»————- ♡ ————-«« As the hours rolled by, your sense of urgency grew. Joel should have been back with Tommy by now. Eager to distract yourself you turn on the television and aimlessly channel surf until you discover a movie that piques your interest. Another hour of watching the front door, willing Joel and Tommy to walk through it, passes by.
Drowsiness begins to overtake you. You take your eyes off of the television screen not wanting to exert any more effort into looking at it. Each muscle in your body begins to release the tension of the day, one by one as you settle onto the couch. The faint buzz of the television lulls you to the edge of sleep in mere moments.
Jolted awake by the deafening rumble of helicopters passing overhead, you fight off the dream that is still clouding your mind. Everything from your eyelashes to your feet feels heavy. Resting your eyes once more, you grant yourself another moment to enjoy the void of unconsciousness.
That moment is interrupted by Sarah shaking you awake.
"Y/N, what's going on? I think I can see explosions outside..."
Groggily sitting up, your vision finally focuses on the TV just past Sarah. The channel that was airing a movie not too long ago is now distorted with static. Sarah picks up the remote and changes the channel.
"STAY INDOORS! Law enforcement and emergency services are in the area and will be in contact with further instructions."
"What the f-"
Your attention shifts from the national alert to the sound of scratching at the window. The Adler's dog is loose and attempting to get into the house.
Okay, this night CANNOT get any stranger.
"It's Mercy! We need to see if he's okay," Sarah rushes to the door. You grab her arm, "Uh, I don't think that's a good idea. I think we need to stay inside right now and keep the doors locked."
"But he never gets loose. What if something is wrong with the Adlers?"
Suppressing the dread that is developing rapidly within you, you swallow your fear for Sarah's sake. You have to keep things calm and safe for her.
"Alright," you smooth your hand over her hair, "I'm gonna go over to my house and grab my nursing kit okay? Let me go check on them, but you do not, and I am so serious right now....do NOT leave this house by any means. Understand?"
She was too frightened to even lift her head, rather she stared out the window at the distant flares of light coming from the city.
You kneel to her level and hold her for a moment, "Everything is going to be alright okay?"
"Can I see if Mercy is okay?"
Conceding, you cautiously open the door and allow Sarah to clutch onto the dog. "Remember Sarah, do not leave the house."
Your pulse beats in your ears, as you turn to face your house. Although your mind is intent on making the trek across the street, it is as if your feet are cemented to the ground.
You tell yourself that being a little nervous is a completely normal reaction to what is going on. But that's just it, what IS going on?
God Joel, where the hell are you?
»»————- ♡ ————-««
"Damn it Tommy can you drive any faster?"
Tommy's grip on the wheel tightens, finding an odd comfort in the grooves between his fingers.
"Joel, I am going as fast as I can okay? They will be fine. Sarah is a smart girl and she has Y/N who won't let anything bad happen to them."
Joel could not wrap his mind around any of the events that transpired once he left his home to go get Tommy. One second he was in the comfort of his living room, within arms reach of the woman he'd just spent the most incredible night with. And his daughter, the embodiment of his heart and soul, was safe asleep on his lap. Next thing he knows, he and Tommy are being chased by a stampede of rabid-like inmates at the Travis County Jail. He could no longer restrain the tremors in his hands, shaking in an irregular rhythm.
"You really care about this girl don't you," Tommy's voice manages to break through the wall of thoughts blockading Joel from thinking clearly.
Recalling the night before, he is transported back to the moment when you pulled his shirt over his head and started grazing your hands across his chest, down the ridge in between his abs. It was a sensory overload, every nerve ending in his body tingled with anticipation. The two of you collapsed onto his bed, your bodies trembling as you bonded with every motion, each passionate touch leaving a flaming sensation on your skin. Your hearts raced in tempo with one another, like a symphony crescendoing to its epic finale.
"I do. This is the only time since Sarah's mom left that I've felt alive. Young again, invincible." Joel has never felt so certain in his life about someone, not even his ex-wife. Being with you is effortless. In your presence, he feels weightless. Like a drug, you drew him in slowly, tempting his every desire. At first, he took you in, little by little. And without detection, he became addicted. »»————- ♡ ————-«« Emerging from your home, nursing kit in hand, you prepare yourself for whatever you might face at the Adler's home. Surely it is nothing too grave, and yet you can't help but wonder why her kids didn't come to get you or call 911 if something happened to Nana?
Passing Joel's house, panic passes over you, causing the fine hairs on the back of your neck to rise. The front door is still open. Your mind races faster than your feet as you rush into the house. The endless possibilities as to what could've happened to her plague you.
You are confident that if anything happens to Sarah, Joel will strangle you with his bare hands...and not in a pleasurable way. Even if you told that stubborn girl not to move a finger from where you left her. She reminds you so much of yourself though. Curiosity can be so enticing at times that it blinds a person. Especially someone with as honorable of a heart as Sarah's.
"Sarah!" You frantically call out in each room.
Where are she and that damn dog?
Joel, hurry up. Please.
After surveying the entirety of the house to no avail, your chest tightens, and your lungs feel as though they have been wrung out of oxygen. Unsure of whether or not your lack of oxygen is due to the running or the panic attack creeping up on you, you take a moment to gather your thoughts. Mind over matter. Where would she go?
The dog. The damn dog. She's at the Adler's.
The next few seconds are a blur. You are uncertain how you got to the Adler's doorstep so swiftly. It felt like you were practically flying. Similar to Joel's home, the front door is open.
This girl needs to learn how to not only lock doors but actually CLOSE them.
A sickening sensation flares through your body as you peer into the still home. There go the hairs on the back of your neck again, but this time, the tingling sensation snakes down your spine and arms too.  Instinctually, you know not to go in there. But, Sarah is in there and she matters more than any gut feeling or self-preservation right now.
"Sarah?"
Apprehensively, you venture deeper into the house. That's when you lay eyes on her, frozen in the kitchen. Unclear as to what she is fixated on, you join her in the doorway. That's when you see it. A trail of blood leads directly to Mr. Adler, his mouth agape and his limbs contorting. At first, the sight does not phase you. As a nurse working in an emergency room, you handle bloody wounds day in and day out. It's not until you look closely at where the blood is coming from that your fears reignite.
Is that...a bite wound?
A guttural noise captures your attention. Following Sarah's line of sight, terror sucks the very breath from your lungs. There is Nana, atop Mrs. Adler. Another river of blood floods from the daughter-in-law's neck.
Nana's raspy breathing slows to a more even tempo as she raises her eyes toward you. Vine-like appendages protrude from her mouth, attaching themselves to Connie's neck. The drumming of your heart, deafening and irregular, obscures your mind with fear.
Fight? Or flight? First, get Sarah as far away as possible.
Latching onto Sarah's arm, you tug her behind you.
One word. "Run."
Keeping your eyes on the gasping old woman, you ready yourself to prevent her from reaching Sarah at all costs. You listen intently for Sarah's footsteps pounding out of the house until you are positive she's made it outside.
You can feel the flight responses taking over your body, flooding you with increased adrenaline.
Nana stumbles to her feet as she releases a splintering screech. That is when the adrenaline ceases full control over your body, sending you hurdling towards the front door. Whatever creature has possessed the once docile elderly lady, is now hot on your heels. Her bone-chilling snarls signal you to her presence behind you.
Just as you begin to fear the worst outcome, you see him.
"Don't go," Joel's pleas echo in your mind from mere hours ago.
The thought of being wrapped up in his secure embrace once more drives you to push your legs harder.
Anguish pierces his voice as he calls out your name. Even so, it translates into a calming melody that brings some clarity to your mind.
"Get behind me..." He motions you over to Sarah.
As you hold her trembling frame, you turn back to Nana who is collapsed on the ground. Her limbs are mangled and her eyes are void of any life. Suddenly, the sharp cracking of her bones churns your stomach. Like a rabid animal, she growls and sprints toward Joel on all fours. Rising to her feet and closing in on him, she flails her arms wildly.
"What are we doing Joel!?" Tommy exclaims.
Without hesitation, Joel swings the wrench clutched in his fist and lands one solid blow to the side of the woman's head, sending her motionless body to the ground. Sarah screams and you quickly shield her from the sight of her father standing over their neighbor's corpse...or at least the shell of what she used to be.
Joel rushes to his daughter's side and caresses her cheek, looking her over to make sure she's safe and in one piece.
"You killed her," she cries in disbelief as she collapses into his arms.
He tightens his grip on her, "Baby, I'm sorry." He pulls away and stares into her eyes with strength and focus, "It's not just the Adlers. But we're gonna be brave and we're gonna get out of this."
Not just the Adlers? The helicopters flying towards the city...whatever took control of Nana did not die with her, she was merely the introduction.
Feeling lightheaded, you lean against Tommy's truck. He rushes to your side and holds you up, "You got that nursing kit of yours?"
"N-no. Inside," you point to Joel's house.
One by one, generators and streetlights begin to explode. Sparks of orange and gold, light up the sky over your neighborhood.
Joel ushers Sarah into the car and turns to face you. For a brief moment, time stands still. His pupils dilate, as he looks at you, the woman who made the future look like skies as clear as sapphire. Yet, he recognizes a shift in the atmosphere. A shared dread hanging over you like a dark, impenetrable cloud. His hands tremble, searching for yours to steady them. He twitches, his body responding to your delicate touch.
"Don't go." He implores you. His signature phrase to you. That in itself could be your new love language.
Attempting to open your mouth to speak, no words flow out. A simple nod is all you can manage. With that permission, he hurries you into the truck, meanwhile warning another one of your neighbors to stay inside and lock her door. Once Joel is inside, you lean forward and drape a reassuring hand on his shoulder. A subtle, but significant sign of solidarity. He laces his fingers with yours and holds you in place against the back of his seat.
As aggressively as Tommy floors the truck into motion, he brings it to a screeching halt. The headlights of the truck illuminate the Adlers stumbling onto the street. Their limbs are just like that of Nana's, wrenched and fidgeting.
"Get your seatbelts on," Joel declares.
Tommy warns, "Hold on..."
His foot finds its way back to the accelerator with no delay. Bracing yourself for the unthinkable you turn to Sarah, "Come here." She folds into your lap, a whimper escaping her lips. The Adlers charge at the truck simultaneously. Connie soon disappears from view as the truck plows over her and sideswipes Danny.
Closing your eyes, you do everything in your might to hold down the bile rising in your throat.
Sarah sits up and wipes a few stray tears from her eyes, "Daddy-"
"We don't know," Joel interrupts.
You shake your head in disbelief, "The Adlers, they were infected with something, some kind of parasite maybe?"
"That's what they're saying on the radio, some kind of virus," Tommy confirms.
"Are we sick?" The young girl persists.
"No. Of course not," Joel's fearful tone turns to a more frustrated one. As a father, his instinct is to protect his daughter and provide her with comfort, but he has no clue what kind of threat lies ahead and can't give her satisfying answers. You tighten your hold on his hand, and he gives you a firm squeeze.
Joel's brother slows the truck as you spot a family pulled off onto the side of the road.
"Tommy, don't," you state firmly. The family shouts after you in desperation.
"But they have a kid."
"So do we," Joel glares at Tommy.
It's officially every man for themselves. Each outsider you bring into your safety net becomes a variable. An unpredictable risk that could put you and the people you care most about in grave danger.
Beams of crimson light glow in the distance, a vast sea of unmoving taillights. Seems like everyone in Austin had the escape plan as you, sending Tommy into a frenzy.
"It's okay, just think it through, we'll think it through," Joel says in repetition, not just for Tommy, but also to ease himself.
Coming from the opposing direction, panicked vehicles race towards you, and away from the perpetual gridlock that hundreds of other cars are trapped in.
Looking out the window into the vast, empty land that stretches for miles uninterrupted, you have a plan.
"Tommy, the field. It's the perfect detour. Cut across it and we will end up on the west side."
Speedily, he veers off onto the barren land. A stampede of cars follows behind you. The collective rays of the headlights light your path to....another dead end. The highway is infested with army vehicles crawling along it.
Tommy and Joel bicker over what the next move should be. Joel opts for a small town on the north side.
"And then what?" You interject.
Joel steadies himself against the dash, the unstable terrain tossing your bodies left and right.
"I don't know. Mexico. Just far, far as we can."
Sarah's eyes gloss over. "Maybe it's everywhere. Maybe there's nowhere to go."
"Hey, hey look at me. We are going to be fine. As long as the four of us stick together, we will be fine. There will be somewhere for us to go and find safety. I promise you, we won't let anything happen to you," you place your hand over your heart and affirm to her.
The dilemma is, you don't know if you can even accept what you promised Sarah. This isn't some influenza you can shelter in place from. The battle is against mankind's worst enemy, man. But not normal men, men being transformed into monsters.
"I-I believe you." Sarah's faith in you is unshakeable, "And I love you too Y/N."

Mickey learned from early on that no one gave a shit about his interests. He was an adult, he shouldn’t have liked comic book movies or sci-fi epics that provided him so much comfort as a kid. In high school, he got picked on for the Tie Fighter keychain on his backpack and teased when he talked about the newest comic book he read. In college, he felt like he could finally be himself, so on the first day he placed his Millennium Falcon figurine on his desk in his college dorm room but earned a scathing glance from his new roommate “Keep that kiddie shit locked away, man,” he told him.
He learned to be almost silent on dates, hiding away the things that he loved for the opportunity to be loved. Mickey went on a date once with a girl who wore a Star Trek shirt to their arcade date, and for once he felt like he could be himself. “I really loved the show from back in the day!” he rambled on and on about one of his favorite shows, and his smile never seemed to fade. Until he saw the grimace on the girl's face in the colorful lights of the arcade. The rant came to a stop and his bright smile faded.  “D-do you have a favorite?”
“I’ve never seen it. I just liked the design of the shirt. I think all that nerdy shit is weird, to be honest,” she replied nonchalantly.
It was no surprise that the date was the first and last. But he learned to talk about other things like the weather and current events, shoving his true interests deep down inside his mind. He didn’t want to be labeled the loser in flight school so he made a vow to never let them know even if it meant dimming his light.
Mickey kept his head low while he was there, only talking when spoken to or when he felt like he could be included. “I like your keychain,” you complimented as you sat across from him in the cafeteria, his star wars keychain hanging from the keychain around his neck.
Fuck, he thought. He forgot to take it off after spending the weekend with his family. “Oh, it’s alright. It’s my sisters,” he deflected, but you could see the glint in his pretty brown eyes. You smiled knowingly and picked up your fork.
“Well,” you sighed, “she has really good taste.”
All he did was nod, perfect teeth biting down on his lower lip to prevent him from saying something stupid or something that would scare you off. “She does,” he said in between bites.
The way he acted amused you, just squirming in his seat and you instantly thought he was the cutest thing. “Jar Jar’s my favorite character,” you prodded, smirking.
Mickey’s eyes went wide and his jaw dropped. “You’re wrong!” he gasped, pointing his finger. Hook, line, and sinker. You cocked your head and grinned in triumph as he went on an uncontrollable rant–not that you wanted him to stop.
“My name is Y/N,” you introduced, cutting him off.
“Mickey, Mickey Garcia.”
A few years passed, and you and Mickey climbed the ranks and created a little life together after your time at Top Gun. He sat out on your balcony, the ocean peeking through the surrounding tall buildings. “Are you coming back in?” you asked, sliding open the door, “Hangman’s threatening to take the Death Star set home with him.”
“I’ll hurt him,” he gasped, turning around and putting his arm around your waist, “he knows how long that took me to build.” You giggled and put your head on his shoulder, looking into the living room. There stood his friends, laughing and enjoying their time together in your little place filled with the thing you and Mickey loved.
A silence quickly fell at the thought of how he got so lucky? “You still with me?” you asked softly.
“Yeah, mi amor,” he sighed, kissing your forehead, “Jus’ thinking.”
“About?”
He swept his tongue along his lower lip before speaking, “I don’t—I don’t remember who I was before I met you,” he admitted, his fingers tapping against your waist. You do, he was quiet and almost shy, he wasn’t Fanboy. He wasn’t the real Mickey.
“Well,” you started, turning to wrap your arms around his neck and bringing him close, “I love this Mickey.”
He smiled and pecked your lips, “Good. I love you too, baby.”

Lana Pov
Aria is babbling some baby nonsense while standing next to my legs as I'm locking up my front door. We are headed to the park to have a late lunch today. All of a sudden I have a feeling like someone is watching me, and I turn around and grab my chest, trying to calm my breathing as if it's just Steven.
"Steven, you scared me; don't ever do that again," I say, grabbing my chest and looking down towards Aria.
"Mommy is scward. Swtevn bad.." Aria babbles, and I can't help but smile. I take her little hand in mine, and my other hand grabs the picnic basket.
"Steven is bad, Aria," I say, picking her up and placing her on my hip, shooting Steven a wink.
"So Lana, you guys are headed to the park, I assume?" he says as he fiddles with his keys.
"Yes, we are; would you like to come along, Steven?" I asked him, already knowing his answer, and trusting my gut, I packed some extra sandwiches.
"Are you kidding me? I would love to," he says as he backs up to let us pass by.
Great, we will meet you there," I say, taking Aria's hand and waving back to Steven as he waves back.
I walk down the stairs of my apartment complex and walk towards my car. I put Aria in her car seat and kiss her little hands, and she giggles. I place our picnic basket next to her and walk around to the driver's side.
"Ready baby?" I ask her as I put my seat belt on and turn the AC on.
"Yeah, mommy," she says.
I smile and turn some music on. I play some Disney songs and pull out, driving towards the park.
Steven was our neighbor in the apartment complex I live in; he moved in when Aria was about seven months old and has been trying to take me out on a date since. I don't think I'm ready to date again, but he is good company and cares for Aria, and I like to think Aria likes him, so I friend-zoned him, but that doesn't stop him from trying.
Once we arrive at the park, I help Aria out of her car seat, he grabs her Mickey Mouse, and I grab the basket. While we wait for Steven, I apply some sunscreen to her arms and her adorable chubby face. After we see Steven pull in, we walk towards one of the play structures and sit down as we watch Aria play. After Aria is done playing on the playground and swings, we walk over to a shaded area.
This is a big park and has three sides. A huge dog park, a kid's park, and a hill where you could have a picnic and hang out with your families.
Okay, my sweet girl, here is your jelly sandwich, crackers, and apple juice," I say as I hand her some napkins and tuck them on under the overalls she's wearing, and we start eating. Steven and I fall back into a conversation about my next book release.
I'm a children's book writer (for the Lucky Dog series), and I stopped writing after having Aria, but recently something inspired me to start writing again. I'm almost finished and waiting to hear from my publishing company. I'm excited to start publishing again. It was the one thing that could shut me out of the real world and help me focus on having a little me time while Aria would nap.
..
Steven, could you please watch her as I throw away this trash? I say, getting up after we finished eating and Aria insisted on walking around to look at the little flowers around the park.
"Sure thing," he says, grabbing Aria and throwing her up in the sky as she giggles. I pick up everything and place it in the trash bag I brought with me.
"Okay, thank you; I'll be right back," I say, walking away from them. I'm walking towards our car, where I saw some trash cans earlier.
Surprisingly, today the park isn't too crowded, and there are only maybe five families out, which is shocking. I throw away my trash and walk back toward where I left them.
I walk over to Steven, who is sitting on a bench while he is talking on the phone, but I can't see Aria anywhere. I run towards him.
"Steven! Where is Aria? "I'm panicking, looking behind and around him, but I can't see her anywhere.
"Oh, yeah, she was right here looking at the flowers, I swear. I am so sorry," he says as he puts the phone down. He gets up and looks for her, calling her name.
"MOVE!" I yell at him as my blood is boiling and I'm getting scared. Maybe she was taken or ran towards the oncoming traffic... I ran back to where we had lunch.
My heart is panicking, and I'm about ready to cry when I can't see her anywhere.
"ARIA!!! ARIA!!!" I yelled, running around trying to find her.
Where are you, damn it. Aria? Please come back.
I run across the park while Steven runs to the other one, and I'm running around when I hear her giggling... I run faster, and I see her near a tree, under a dog, and a man kneeling near her.
"ARIA, OH MY GOD, ARIA!!!! I yell, running towards them, and I see the dog get up and be pulled again. I run closer, and the man on the ground gets up, and I freeze in the spot.
"NOO! It can't be. Chris! What is he doing here? Why is he here?" I mumble to myself.
I lock eyes with him, and he has the same look as me. I see Dodger, and he runs towards me, almost knocking me down. I push my emotions aside and run over to Aria to pick her up.
"Mommy lowk doggy," she says. I pick her up from Dodger as he licks my leg.
Aria is babbling, and I see her jeans are a little ripped, so I'm guessing she fell down.
I look back at Chris, and he was about to say something when Steven runs up and stands next to us, and before Chris can say anything, I speak up and stop him from saying anything.
"Thank you. Have a nice day, Mr.," I say and walk off with Steven.
"Bye bye, doggy. Mawa Iowe doggy," Aria says as I kiss her cheeks, walking off, not daring to look back.
I walk off, and the tears are falling down fast. Steven seems to notice, and he tries to take Aria from me, and I just hold her tighter. I walk over to my car and unlock it.
I buckle Aria in her car seat as she is babbling about Dodger and trying to tell Steven, and I kiss her head while handing her a cardboard book, and Mickey and I shut the door.
"I'm so sorry, Lana," Steven tries to say something, but I wipe my tears and tell him I will see him soon and talk later. I get in the car and drive off, pushing the emotions aside for Aria. I cannot break down right now.
...
I'm rocking Aria in her bedroom, putting her down for bed after I've given her a shower and cleaned up her cut, and my thoughts are all over the place.
What if he knows and is here to take her away from me?
Why is he back now?
Has he moved on?
After two years, why is he back?
"Mawa..." I hear Aria say, tucking on my shirt, taking me out of my thoughts as I rock her.
"Yes, baby..." I whisper.
"Twat was daddy, with doggie in pawk? Aria asks me, and my eyes are holding on to the tears, not allowing them to escape just yet.
"Yes, yes, baby.. daddy was in the park.. he is back from work.." I say this as I put her in her crib or toddler bed.
"When he comes to live with us..." Aria whispers as her eyes get heavy and her breathing slows down as she falls into a slumber.
I kiss her forehead, turn on the sound machine, grab the baby monitor, and walk out, leaving the door a little open.
...
I walk into the kitchen and grab some water and Tylenol, then walk into the living room and place the baby monitor on the coffee table.
After taking two Tylenols, I chug the water and break down in the living room. Why was he back in Boston, and why didn't Lisa say anything this afternoon when she came by?
I will not let him take my baby away. After all, he did. And the fact that the Dodgers recognized Aria breaks my heart. He always knew before I could even find out.
I met Chris when I used to volunteer at Miles Elementary School's clubs program. My first book series was coming out, and I would come out to the children's library and read my books to the after-school kids in clubs, where Chris walked into my life and stole my heart and made me feel like the luckiest woman alive until he fucked up and threw it all away, while taking my heart with him.
Flashback (2017)
"Carly, which one is he in again? I ask my sister.
"Chris is in room 2b next to the library; just walk in and you will see him." Okay, thanks. I think I can figure it out. Bye, Carly.
"Again, thank you, Chris," she says, and I can hear Stella and Ethan arguing about something in the background.
"Any time," I say, hanging up and getting out of my car.
I hang up the phone and walk into the school office. Carly had an appointment with the big kids, and I need to pick up Miles from after-school clubs. The lady in front has me sign in to a log sheet. She hands me a sticker to put on, and I back up and bump into someone. I hear a thump, and I look down, and I see all her things on the floor. "Oh my," she says in the sweetest voice.
"I'm so sorry," I say and help her up, picking up her folder and book. I get a good look at her, and she is just drop-dead gorgeous.
"It's okay," she says. Before I can say anything, she walks over behind the counter, grabs a patch, and walks by.
I shake my head and walk towards the door of the office to walk onto campus. I look for the library. I spot it on the other side of me, and I run over, and I see most parents inside lined up along the glass wall looking at other children. I walk into the room and see all the kids on the floor waiting quietly. Just then she walks in with a book and introduces herself as Miss. Parker. She starts to read her book, and I can't help but actually listen to the whole children's book.
After she finishes, I can't help but start clapping, breaking the silence, and all eyes are on me as if I needed that. I smile and fidget with my baseball cap and thank God for Miles as he and the other kids start to clap, breaking the awkward silence, and I just smile and kick my feet.
Miles is clapping on the floor with his kindergarten buddies, up to me with his copy of the book.
"Uncle Chwis," he says, catching everyone's attention yet again, and Miss. Parker smiles.
Everyone soon leaves the room as the kids go to grab their belongings from the gym, and I'm left alone with Miss. Parker.
"So Uncle Chwis, you crash all of Miles's afternoon clubs; am I just the lucky one today?" she says mockingly while she grabs her things and walks up to me.
Uh, no, actually, your voice is just so soothing, and I loved your book...and well, um, this is my first time crashing anything," I say, reaching behind my neck and rubbing my hair, and she just laughs.
"Well, thank you, and I'm honored," she says.
"Um, hi, my name is Chris," I say, reaching for her hands, which she takes and are so soft and smooth as she shakes my hand.
"Miss. Parker, nice to meet you, Chris," she says, smiling, and lets go of my hand.
"So, Miss. Parker, do you have a name?" I say I'm trying to shoot my shot, and I smile back at her, and I can see her cheeks brighten as she blushes.
"I do, Captain America, but you're going to have to excuse me; someone there is calling me. See you around," she says as she leaves me stunned, so she knows who I am. I walk out behind her, and Miles runs up to me, and I grab his backpack, leaning it over my shoulder. I grab his hand, and we walk out towards the parking lot over to my car. As we reach the car, I open his door, place his backpack down, and help him in. I see he is holding a copy of The Lucky Dog. I snatched it from him.
"Hey, twats mine," he says as I grab his little hand, shoo it away, and run my fingers through his hair.
"I know I'm just looking after it." I say, and I buckle Miles in and flip to the back of the book.
Ahhh "Alana Parker".
... A few days later
Chris ended up picking Miles up the next Monday in hopes of seeing Lana again, and to his luck, she was there in the library. He smiled and entered and sat through the whole reading again, and this time he tried to be more subtle than last week.
After Lana was done and the kids went to grab their belongings, Chris took the chance and walked over to Lana.
"So, Miss. Parker, or should I say Alana,"  you have a beautiful name? I'm walking up to her.
"Ahhh yes, Chris. Thank you. My grandparents named me," she says, and he hands me a signed copy of her book.
"So you don't come every Monday and can read at home now?" she snickers while handing me a brand-new copy of her book.
I smile and take it.
Chris ends up asking Lana on a date, and by the second date, he falls in love with her, and he falls hard.
End of Flashback
...
Lana pov
I cannot believe he is back. It's all a big shock to me.
Chris and I hit off pretty quickly after our first and second dates. Five months into dating, I moved in with Chris and put my apartment or home out to lease for someone. A year later, he had to go back to work to promote the last Avengers, and I stayed back in Boston to finish my last book for series one of The Lucky Dog.
We couldn't live without each other and would always call when we weren't working. After 6 months, he came back after the premiere of Endgame. I met his family and friends, and he met my grandparents, and I loved my life.
In late 2017, after just dating for a couple of months, Chris proposed, and I said yes. We told everyone the news in February 2018 that Chris was taking a break from acting, and we agreed to get married in 2019. We had a date and everything. Everyone was so happy for us.
That night it was one of Chris's friends, Tara's birthday, and I wasn't feeling to go, so Chris went to celebrate and I stayed home with Dodger. I hadn't been feeling well for two weeks at the time, and I had placed an Amazon order for some pregnancy tests that just happened to be delivered the same night.
I remember wasting no time and taking a test, and when it came back as pregnant, I jumped up and down. I was with Dodger when I found out, and he was nudging my leg when I found out he was barking along. He had been extra clingy and lying on my tummy the whole week, so that explained that.
I was in our bedroom at the time when I heard the front door open, and I hid the test in my back pocket. I wanted to surprise Chris in a cute way, but that went out the window when I heard his footsteps, and I wanted to tell him right away that he was about to become a dad. We would often daydream about having a little family of our own, and I couldn't believe it was happening.
As soon as Chris walked in the room, he was super drunk—more drunk than I've ever seen him—and he was so angry that night.
Flashback (2019)
"Dodger looks like Daddy is back. Let's surprise him with your little brother or sister. I coo to Dodger, and Dodger barks back. I get up from the ottoman in front of our bed.
I can hear Chris come up the stairs, and out of nowhere I hear glass breaking.
I run out of the room, and I see Chris standing on the stairs, pulling the picture frames of us from the walls and dropping them on the floor, breaking them.
Chris, what are you doing? I say as he stops and looks my way, He looks mad; he is super drunk and can barely walk in a straight line. He walks past me into the room, and I follow behind him as Dodger is behind me whining.
Chris walks over to the bed and falls down, and Dodger runs up to him. I'm still standing by the door, shocked at Chris's behavior. I've seen and been around him when he was drunk in the past, but he's always super cuddly and soft. I've never seen him this annoyed or angry. Dodger gets on the bed and starts to bark and lick his face, which leads Chris to jump up and take Dodger and walk him towards the door and push him outside, and he looks at the door and looks my way.
"Chris, you're scaring me? I say as he walks over.
"SHUT UP!" He yells and I jump. He's never screamed at me.
"Chris, Chris, Chris, Chris... do you ever shut up, Lana? You're so annoying and ugh," he spits out, walking towards me and taking my hand in his.
"Baby.. I-,"
"Don't call me that," he spits out.
I don't have the words for what's happening, and Dodger is barking outside the door.
Chris cages me in, takes my left hand, pulls my ring off, and waves it around in my face.
"You're the mistake, Lana," he slurs.
"GET OUT! I don't want you here," he says as he throws the ring somewhere in the room.
"Get out before you ruin my life." He screams and pushes me out of the room, locking it behind him, and I hear him throwing stuff around.
End of Flashback
I remember him pushing me out, and I stayed out all night long, crying for Chris to open the door, but he didn't. The next morning I woke up on the couch and looked around. It was quiet, and the time was 6:30 in the morning. I went to the gym to check on Chris, and when I didn't see him, I ran upstairs and into the bedroom, and to my surprise, he wasn't there. I thought he and Dodger went on a morning run until I went to use the bathroom and most of Chris's things were gone and so was Dodger, but there was a note on the bed.
Lana Parker
I can't do this; you are in the way between me and my career. I need to go back to LA and try to save my career after Captain America and land some films, and you are in the way. I realized I do not want the same things as you right now, so please leave and never contact me or my family again.
Chris Evans.
I cried and cried that day and remembered I was pregnant with his baby—our baby—baby Aria.
I left Chris's family alone, emptied out his house, and moved back into my old apartment. I ended up blocking everyone I knew of his I went to the doctor when my morning sickness started kicking in, and I found out I was at least 14 weeks pregnant. I was only 5 months old when my grandparents passed away. My only family left wasMy parents were both killed in a car accident, and my grandparents raised me. They were both very successful and had a lot of money left for me and my baby. Grandma eventually found out I was pregnant, and I lied to them and said Chris was away filming. I still regret not telling them the truth; it sometimes haunts me in my sleep. I sold some land they owned in Europe, and I and Aria are good for a lifetime.
When I was nine months pregnant, Lisa ran into me at the supermarket and found out I was pregnant with Chris's baby, and eventually, all the Evans found out. Now Lisa comes over every Friday for lunch or breakfast, and Aria meets her aunts and uncles for holidays, but now that Chris is back, I don't know anymore.
I gather myself off the floor and walk towards my bedroom and into the bathroom. I wash my face and get in the shower.
"You will not let him win Aria," I tell myself in the mirror as I dry my hair.
I walk into my bedroom, place the baby monitor on the nightstand, get into bed, and think of ways to explain to Aria now that her father is back and she's seen him.

New Traditions
Two Gallaghers and two Milkoviches decide to get a Christmas tree. Sounds simple enough, right? post-s10, just a bunch of tooth-rotting holiday fluff. Written for my dear @m4ndysk4nkovich, I hope you enjoy, darling! (on ao3)
Mickey wasn’t quite sure how he’d gotten himself into this situation. Probably it was the fact that he couldn’t say no to Ian, or Debbie, and the fact that Debbie was now dating Sandy, and he had nothing better to do on a Sunday. Debs had said something yesterday about needing to get a tree, because “it’s your first Christmas as newlyweds, Mickey, how can we not celebrate?” and “Franny just loves Christmas, she’ll be heartbroken if we don’t have a tree!” But trying to lug a ten-foot tall tree back to the Gallagher house with just the four of them and Debbie’s car was a lot more complicated than any of them had expected it to be.
He wiped his brow on the back of his sleeve and frowned. “Nah, it’s gonna fall off if you fuckin’ leave it like that. Sandy, just fuckin’ shove it—no, the other way-”
Sandy groaned in frustration and pushed the tree in the opposite direction where it was tied on top of Debbie’s car. “Make up your mind, would you?”
“I’m not the one who decided to get us all up at the ass crack of dawn for this!”
Tellingly, the two ginger Gallaghers who’d been the cause of this whole fucking trip were off to the side, not bothering to help him and Sandy with getting the tree sorted out. Debbie and Ian were talking about something—what, exactly, Mickey couldn’t hear, but apparently was more important than helping him and Sandy out with the tree—and Mickey got momentarily distracted when Ian’s face broke into a wide grin, laughing at something Debbie had said. Fuckin’ Gallagher. So sue him if he liked seeing his husband smile. The ring on his finger gave him a free pass for shit like that.
Sandy threw a snowball at his face. “Hey! What the fuck?”
“Focus up, Mickey! If they’re not gonna help, I at least need you to tighten the ropes on your side. I can’t do it by myself, you know.” Apparently Debbie and Ian heard that part, because they hurried over to help out. Debbie gave Sandy a quick kiss and a “sorry, sorry!” as she took up her side of the ropes. Ian leaned over and did the same to Mickey, which only proved Mickey’s point that the Gallaghers were a bunch of saps. Christmas just seemed to make it worse.
“Okay, okay!” Debbie chirped, and Mickey had no idea how she could be so cheerful when it was so goddamn cold outside. “Ian, can you and Mickey help balance the back end a little better? I don’t want it wobbling when we’re driving back home.”
Sandy smirked. “Yeah, Mick sure knows all about the back end.” And Mickey couldn’t let that stand—he reached down and gathered some snow in his hands, tossing it right at the smug look on her face. She let out a noise of protest, but Ian was laughing, and Mickey felt a little surge of victory at the sound.
“C’mon, Mick, we gotta get this back home so we can decorate-” but a snowball caught Ian with his mouth wide open, causing Debbie to let out a shocked laugh. Ian brushed his face off, snow covering his gloves as he shook his head to get it all out of his hair. “What the fuck!”
In a moment, the tree was all but forgotten in a mad scramble to get snowballs formed and thrown—Ian tossed one that flew apart all over Debbie’s winter coat, causing her to retaliate immediately and catching Mickey in the side of the head instead. Sandy dived behind the car, getting Ian square in the back when he wasn’t looking. Debbie whooped with laughter and ducked as Mickey tried to throw another snowball at her head and missed.
“Gotta do better than that, Milkovich!” she crowed, and Sandy made a noise of protest. “Sorry, babe!”
Ian laughed. “You let her call you babe? Mick barely lets me get away with anything like that.”
“Yeah, because I got a name, you can fuckin’ use that if you wanna call me something,” Mickey muttered. He reached up and smashed the snowball in his hand against the back of Ian’s head in retaliation.
Ian squawked, spinning around and grabbing Mickey around the middle to pick him up, despite Mickey’s squirming and loud protests. The sight made Sandy howl with laughter, falling against Debbie to keep herself standing up. “Like I said before,” she said with a grin, “little domestic bitches!”
“I think it’s sweet,” said Debbie, as Ian planted a loud kiss on Mickey’s cheek. Mickey felt his face heat up, and not just from being out in the cold for so long. “They’re newlyweds, after all, you can’t blame them for being all lovey dovey.”
Sandy shook her head. “Never thought I’d see Mickey Milkovich so dickwhipped. Not that it’s a bad look on him,” she added quickly, noting the scowl on Mickey’s face, even as Ian still held onto him like an oversized teddy bear. “Anyway, are we getting this tree back to the house or what? We only got a few more hours before Tami’s supposed to bring Franny back from shopping.”
“Shit!” Debbie yelped. “We gotta get the tree decorated before they get home!”
The four of them wiped the snow from their coats and their hair, then grabbed the ropes holding the tree to the top of the car and tightened them enough to keep it safely in place for the ride home. Then the two Gallaghers and two Milkoviches bundled into the car—Sandy grabbed shotgun, although neither Ian nor Mickey intended to fight her on it. They sat in the backseat, shivering as they waited for the heat to kick on, and Ian reached out with one gloved hand to take Mickey’s in his own. When Mickey glanced over at him, Ian grinned brightly, cheeks pink from the cold. Then Debbie slowly pulled out of the parking lot and onto the road, driving carefully at Ian’s insistence.
As they made their way through the freshly-plowed streets of Chicago, Sandy reached over and turned the radio on to some station playing the most obnoxious Christmas songs known to man. Of course Ian and Debbie knew the words to most of them, singing loudly to drown out Mickey’s protests. It just made Sandy grin as she glanced back at Mickey, and when he asked her to change the goddamn channel—he even said please, which he thought was pretty big of him—she only snorted and turned the volume up.
“C’mon, Sandy, these Gallaghers sound like dying whales with this shit,” he complained, earning him a punch in the shoulder from his husband. Never mind that these two were his favorites when it came to that bunch, but there was only so much Mariah fuckin’ Carey that a man could put up with. And he knew he was gonna wake up hearing that goddamn Feliz Navi-what the fuck ever song in the middle of the night later. See if he got them all decent Christmas presents. Maybe he’d just steal Franny one of those Easy Bake ovens and let Debbie and Sandy deal with the consequences.
It took half an hour to get back to the Gallagher house with how Debbie was driving, but when Mickey complained about it Ian reminded him that the last thing they needed was to have an accident with a ten-foot tree strapped to the top of the car. Unfortunately Mickey couldn’t exactly argue with that logic, so he just bit his lip and stared out the window while Ian squeezed his hand and promised to make it up to him later.
Getting the tree inside the house, however, proved to be more difficult than they’d anticipated. Thank fuck there were four of them, and that Ian had gotten the boot off his leg two weeks earlier, otherwise they might be in real trouble. But they undid the ropes and caught the tree as it tried to roll off the car roof, all of them nearly falling on their asses as they stumbled back to avoid it falling on their feet. The last thing Ian needed was to break his damn foot again, Mickey thought, feeling a rather large prick of guilt for having been the cause of the last injury. He was determined that it wouldn’t ever happen again, so if he pushed Ian out of the way when the tree nearly fell on top of him, he got his thanks in the form of a kiss from his husband to the top of his head. It didn’t make him blush, but it was a near thing.
“Okay,” said Debbie, letting out a deep breath that could be seen hanging in the air before her. “It’ll probably be easier if we take it in the front door instead of up the backstairs.”
Ian nodded in agreement. “Yeah, I think you’re right. Mick, you and Sandy grab the top half, and me and Debs will get the base.”
“Why do we gotta get the part where we’re walkin’ backwards?” Mickey demanded, but Sandy just smacked him in the back of the head. “What the hell, Sandy??”
She rolled her eyes. “Stop whinin’ like a little bitch. You’re not gonna let some stupid tree get the better of you, right?”
Well. When she put it like that, Mickey had no choice but to grab his end of the damn thing—getting stabbed in the face by pine leaves or whatever the fuck they were in the process—and help Sandy lug it up the narrow stairs while walking backwards. But he couldn’t be too irritated, though, not when Ian and Debbie were chatting excitedly about maybe getting Franny and Liam to help them bake cookies tomorrow afternoon. Mickey planned to sit at the table and watch the disaster unfold while drinking a beer, but the mental image it conjured was actually pretty cute.
Not that he’d ever say it out loud. Although judging by the grin on her face, Sandy was thinking along the same lines, so maybe it wasn’t too bad to make some halfway decent Christmas memories. The last time he’d really done anything for the holiday was right after Ian’s first depressive episode, with Svetlana suggesting it might be a good way to help cheer him up. To Mickey’s surprise, the lights and the tree and the presents had actually worked, a little, and Ian had even smiled when he saw Svetlana helping Yevgeny rip open the few little gifts they’d scrounged up some money for. It had been the first real bright spot in their lives since they’d cobbled together a little family between them all. Things hadn’t lasted—they’d been too good to last—but it’d been nice to see Ian smile. Mickey had thought he might never see it again.
And now he got to see Ian’s smile every fucking day for the rest of his life. Sandy was right after all—Mickey Milkovich really was dickwhipped. But he could handle it, as long as it was for Ian fuckin’ Gallagher.
Between the four of them, they maneuvered the tree up the steps and in through the front door. It took some work to get it through the entryway and into the living room proper, but once they finally did, Mickey and Ian held onto the tree so it wouldn’t fall over while Debbie and Sandy scrambled to clear some room in the corner opposite the TV so they had a place to put it.
“Why didn’t we do this before we left?” Sandy said, tossing some old beer cans into a trash bag.
Debbie shrugged. “Probably because we left too early so we could get a good tree?” She motioned Ian and Mickey forward, reaching out to help steady the tree as they finagled the tree into place. She’d found a tree stand in the Gallagher basement the night before—that had been what started this whole thing in the first place—and helped the two of them set the tree trunk into the stand so it wouldn’t fall over. “Fuck yes!” she crowed. “Look at that—teamwork makes the dream work.”
Sandy leaned over, putting an arm around Debbie’s back. “Babe, I’m begging you, never say that. Ever again.” Debbie just grinned and kissed her firmly on the lips. It made Ian roll his eyes, but Mickey saw the fond smile on his face even still.
“Okay, okay, fine,” Debbie relented. “Now, I got our old box of lights and decorations, so we just need to get the stepstool and we can start getting things on the tree.”
Mickey didn’t bother to protest—he knew it was a waste of time, although he put up a decent show of grumbling about be fuckin’ careful, clumsy ass when Ian decided he’d be the one to get up on the stepladder to string the lights. According to Debbie, the lights had managed to keep working for the last ten years, and there was a moment when they first plugged them in that they thought the bulbs were dead, followed by a collective sigh of relief when they finally turned on.
“At least we don’t gotta run and get some new ones at the last fuckin’ minute,” Sandy said, flopping back onto the couch with a sigh. Debbie grabbed her hand and pulled her back onto her feet, propping her chin on Sandy’s shoulder as she hugged her from behind.
“We still gotta put the decorations on, babe. Can you grab the garland from the box?” Sandy let out a big, showy sigh—a move that was pure Milkovich—and turned around so she could reach back and smack Debbie’s ass. It made Debbie yelp and jump in Sandy’s arms, but she grinned with laughter as she got Sandy in a ticklish spot along her ribs. The two of them started horsing around, giggling like dumbasses while Mickey rolled his eyes and grabbed the box of decorations. “You helpin’ me with these, right, tough guy? Fat lotta use those two idiots are gonna be if we’re getting this done before Franny gets home.”
“Yeah, I’m gonna help, don’t worry,” Ian said, grabbing a box of ornaments and a baggie full of hooks. “You wanna hook ‘em and I’ll put ‘em on the tree?”
As Mickey had suspected, Debbie and Sandy were pretty useless, at least at first—Debbie insisted they couldn’t decorate a tree without hot chocolate and marshmallows, which led to her and Sandy disappearing for a good twenty minutes into the kitchen. Mickey refused to go in there and see what they were up to, but it definitely involved a whole lot of giggling. Regardless, they did come back with four mugs of hot cocoa, topped with marshmallows as promised. And it’s not as if he and Ian hadn’t spent a good couple of minutes playing grabass while the girls were out of the room, anyway.
At some point, someone—Mickey wasn’t sure who—had turned on a Christmas playlist on their phone, and he was just grateful that the mix was better than what they’d been listening to in the car. He even found himself smiling at Ian as they arranged some of the old Gallagher decorations on top of the fireplace mantle. So maybe the holidays were bringing out his more sensitive side—so what? He was a newlywed, and his husband was dancing around the living room with Debbie standing on his feet like a little kid while Sandy grinned from where she sat on the couch. Finally, their work was done, and the living room was decked out to the fucking nines for Christmas. Ian had even found a garland of fake holly to wrap around the bannister leading up the stairs, which Debbie had cheered over when it turned out they had tiny, twinkling lights hidden between the leaves.
Now the four of them sat on the couch, drinking and watching Home Alone, when the front door opened and they heard the cry of “Mommy!”
“Franny!” Debbie said, her face lighting up at the sight of her daughter. Tami wasn’t far behind, holding Fred in a baby carrier on her chest. “Hi, baby girl! Did you and aunt Tami have a good time?”
“Yep!” Franny said, throwing herself onto Debbie for the biggest hug she could give. “I got you presents!”
“I’ll help her wrap them tomorrow, if you want,” Sandy offered, to Mickey’s surprise. It seemed even his cousin had gotten into the holiday spirit after their work today.
“That’d be great!” said Debbie, turning Franny around to sit her in her lap. Ian reached over and tugged at one of Franny’s pigtails, making her giggle. “And guess what else we’re doing tomorrow, sweetie?”
“What?”
“We’re gonna make cookies with uncle Liam!”
Franny shrieked with delight, clapping her hands and hugging her mom. “Yes! Yes! Yes! I love cookies!”
Tami set their shopping bags in the alcove under the stairs. “Hey, Debs, I’m putting our war spoils over here, okay? I figure that’ll be far enough out of the way from the little ones.” She plucked Fred out of his baby carrier and set him in his playpen behind the couch.
“Yeah, no worries, that’s perfect.”
Mickey leaned in close against Ian, his husband’s arm resting comfortably over Mickey’s shoulders. “Lemme guess, you wanna join in the cookie making tomorrow, huh?”
“Nah,” Ian laughed. “I figured we’d go get our own shopping done, just the two of us.” He clinked their beer bottles together, the lights from the tree reflecting with a twinkle on the glass. “After today, I could use some quality time with my husband.”
“Well,” Mickey said, wagging his eyebrows, “I can’t really say no to that, can I?”
“I mean, you could, but what would be the fun in that?”
“Yeah, yeah. You’re a real softie, Gallagher, you know that?”
Ian didn’t answer, just gave Mickey a kiss on the cheek, which Mickey didn’t bother to protest. Next to them, Debbie and Sandy were being just as disgusting, Debbie resting her head against Sandy’s shoulder while Franny lay across both their laps. Tami headed upstairs after they all agreed to keep an eye on Fred so she could grab a shower, and she hit the overhead light off for them as she went. The living room was now lit only by the Christmas tree in the corner and the strings of lights they’d hung up along the mantle and the stairs behind them. And yeah, maybe the holidays weren’t really his thing, Mickey thought, squished on the couch between two ginger Gallaghers while they continued to watch the movie, but if they kept being like this, he might not have as much reason to complain in the future. Right now, life was good.

Hey! Could you do a Mickey Altieri X Fem!Reader where they’re dating but leading up to the Windsor college murders he starts distancing himself from her and eventually finds out he’s ghostface? Like she either goes to his dorm while he’s away and finds his costume, voice modifier and camera or she actually sees him unmask himself and confronts him? End it however! Thank you :)
Hey Anon, thanks for the cool request!!
Way To Piss Off A Serial Killer
Tumblr media
Mickey Altieri x Fem reader
Warnings- Kind of angsty, a little bit of a cliff hangar ending, mentions of blood
Word Count- 1570
It was incredibly confusing for you when your usually clingy and sweet boyfriend Mickey began distancing himself from you, it just didn't make sense.
You were extremely sure you hadn't done anything to upset or deter him. Maybe he had something personal going on?
Who knows, you always made sure he knew that he could tell you anything, and he made sure that you could tell him anything too.
All of these thoughts swimming around in your head began to build up and you just hoped they wouldn't be true, things like 'maybe he doesn't love me anymore' or 'maybe he's cheating'. The idea of any of those things being true made you feel sick to your stomach.
Surely he wouldn't lead you on, if he felt differently about you, he would have mentioned it right?
It had been weeks, nearly a month since you had a proper conversation with Mickey, he seemed fine when talking to anyone else, like he didn't have a care in the world.
When it came to you the most he would do was kiss on the cheek or mess up your hair and then leave.
Today you had decided to follow him after he left the group, coincidentally after you showed up.
You followed him through the halls, keeping a distance so he wouldn't notice you until you figured out what you were going to say. Once he is close to a empty-ish hallway you move up behind and pull him through.
He jumps at the sudden action, spinning around to look at you. His face softening, and then something close to guilt washed over his face.
''Mickey Altieri why have you been avoiding me?'' Your foot tapped harshly against the floor, your hand still gripping his arm.
''I haven't been avoiding you babe, I've just been busy that's all.'' He shrugs, attempting to convince you with a toothy grin.
''You stopped coming to stay at my dorm, and you told me to stop coming to yours, why?'' You persisted, a more annoyed look taking over your previously worried expression ''If there is someone else I expect you'd tell me, I'm not just some sloppy seconds.''
''Whoa! whoa! whoa!.'' He rushed out ''Y/N I wouldn't do something like that to you, I have just been swamped with things okay. Things will go back to normal before you know it okay? just a tad bit longer and everything will be okay.'' If anything it sounded more like he was comforting himself more than he was you.
''Promise?'' You ask, it was stupid. You knew that and you were going to find out what was going on but for now you were going to stick to what he said.
''Pinky promise.'' He grinned holding out his pinky and locking it with yours before kissing the top of your head, lingering for a moment before he left.
'If he was busy tonight then you could go to his dorm, maybe it would be a nice surprise for him'. You thought to yourself, walking to your next period, which you shared with Derek. You and Derek didn't talk much but if anyone knew if something was wrong with Mickey it was most likely him.
Walking into the class you sat beside Derek immediately giving him an half-assed smile.
''Something wrong?'' He asked turning to face you.
''Mickey. Do you know what's going on with him?'' You question raising an eyebrow.
''I haven't noticed anything wrong with him except for the fact he hasn't been following you around like a lost puppy.'' He shrugs ''I know he is working late today, that's about it.''
You nodded and started on your notes.
The rest of the class passed by incredibly slowly, almost as if your trip to Mickey's dorm was being purposely halted.
But once the class had finished you rushed your stuff away before walking down the halls of the building on your way to the dorm building.
Of course you had to be interrupted.
''Y/N!, girl wait the hell up!'' It was Hallie. You turned around, Sidney not far behind her.
''Oh hey guys.'' You smiled.
''Oh hold on, don't 'hey guys' us looking all ominous.'' Hallie put her hands on her hips and cocked an eyebrow.
''How am I looking ominous?'' You asked.
''She's probably on about the whole, walking with purpose thing you had going on just a second ago.'' Sidney says gesturing to you.
You make an 'oh' sound nodding.
''So what were you doing?'' Sidney asked. ''Has it got something to do with Mickey being all weird to you?''
You nodded again.
''I just want to know what's going on so I was headed to his dorm to see if he was there.'' You knew he wouldn't be there but, that's what you decided to tell them.
''Well you have fun with that.'' Hallie teased, wiggling her eyebrows at you while Sidney shook her head smiling ''When you finish over there, if you do.'' She teased again. ''Me and Sid will be at my dorm okay?''.
''Yeah of course, I'll meet up with you guys later.'' You smiled turning around and continuing on your journey. The swirling feeling of dread planting itself in the pit of your stomach again, you really hoped this was nothing to worry about.
Boy were you wrong.
Once reaching the boys dorms, you waited near the side of the building for someone to get in, quickly scrambling behind them through the now unlocked door.
You walked up the stairs until you reached Mickey's dorm, you tried the handle but the door was locked, that was not a problem though. A few months after you and Mickey started dating you had given each other keys to both of your two's dorms.
After unlocking the door, you stepped into Mickey's dorm, it didn't look any different from the last time you were in there weeks ago, there was still an ungodly amount of movies stacked by the TV and cutlery everywhere.
You decided to have a further look around, going into the bathroom first, you see the first aid kit you had bought opened up and resting on the sink, there were bandages on the floor and tissues with specs of blood on them.
'That's weird' You thought to yourself. Leaving the bathroom and going into his bedroom.
At a first glance, nothing seemed to be wrong. The same room you had gone to sleep and woken up in, and other things that had no need to be mentioned. His clothes were mainly on the floor instead of in his wardrobe, and his bed was unkept.
In fact everything did in fact seem fine, nothing new. But maybe for the fun of it you would check under his bed, hoping you wouldn't find some pornographic magazines.
You kneeled down and looked under the bed, there were some books, more movies. And then tucked away at the back sat a duffel bag.
Curiosity could very well kill the cat if the cat wasn't damn careful.
You pulled the bag out from under his bed and moved to sit on top of the bed.
You opened the bag, at first seeing nothing but a thick black material, pulling it out of the bag it just seemed like a hunk of material so you shrugged and went back to looking in the back.
Oh you wished you hadn't.
There was no way you were seeing that.
A Ghostface mask?, and wrapped up inside of it a bloody knife.
You threw it all on the floor and jumped up covering your mouth. No, no definitely not, this had to be some kind of sick joke right?. Just a costume, but that doesn't explain the blood on the knife. Maybe it's fake and just a poor tasted prank?
Your Mickey wouldn't have killed people, would've he?
No no no. No fucking way, the sick feeling came back full force. Not Mickey, not your Mickey. No he wasn't like that.
You rushed back over to the costume and knife putting it back in the bag. You would wait for him to come back, and you would confront him.
So there you sat, on his couch with the bag hidden behind you waiting for your boyfriend to come back.
At least another hour passed before the dorm door opened, Mickey came in shoving his bag on the floor and kicking his shoes off only noticing you when he turned around.
''Jesus! Fuck babe! What the fuck?'' He yelled jumping out of his skin.
You huffed in the form of a laugh.
''I think I should be the one saying what the fuck.'' You say. Turning to face his confused face.
''What are you talking about.'' He tilts his head slightly, giving you toothy grin again.
''This is what I'm talking about.'' You stand up and throw the bag at his feet.
To say he looked mortified was an understatement. He opens his mouth and closes it a few times, then deciding on clenching his teeth.
''You weren't supposed to know.'' He mumbles. Stepping forward ''You're not scared are ya?''
''I don't know, I'm mad that's for damn sure. Is that why you were avoiding me?'' You ask gesturing to the bag.
''I figured if you didn't know then you wouldn't get involved, and then you would be safe.'' He nods.
''I can't believe this.'' You huff sitting back on the couch and looking up at the ceiling.
''Y/N, babe. You know I love you right, I wouldn't hurt you, you know that right?'' He asks moving to sit next to you. Causing you to stand up and move from the couch and over to the door.
''I think you should stay away from me, at least until you have sorted your shit out.'' Your teeth clench as you leave the dorm.
Way to piss off a serial killer...

To say you were nervous would be a complete understatement. The nerves kept you up much later than you would have liked, keeping you groggy for the better half of the morning.
You were just glad you had Mickey’s mom to help you get prepared. Once you were finished you looked at her through the mirror as she hugged you from behind, smiling with tears in her eyes. “You look breathtaking. Just as kind and beautiful as the shy little girl Mickey had been excited to bring home for the first time.”
Your dress was gorgeous, beyond anything you’ve ever dreamed of with the beautiful necklace she had gifted you in the morning.. It was a family heirloom that’s been passed down for generations, usually to the first married woman of the family. With Mickey being the oldest of two siblings and his younger sister not planning on getting engaged any time soon, it went to you, no matter how much you declined.
A few tears slipped as you hugged her tighter to you. “Thank you so much for everything. I don’t think I’d be where I am now without you or the family, you mean the world to me.”
The remaining hour went by in a flash. The venue was decorated with an assortment of fairy lights, giving it an ethereal glow. You both had invited a handful of people, a few family members and your closest friends, wanting to have a small wedding. Mickey was beaming with joy while trying to contain his crying as you both said your vows, you were no better. His best man and best friend Reuben had subtly handed you both tissues causing your heart to soar as you thought about your now husband having wonderful people in his life that cared deeply for him.
Your first kiss shared as husband and wife had completely swept you off your feet, your friends and family cheered loudly with a few hoots and hollers coming from the back. You were so enraptured by the kiss you didn’t realize Mickey had swept you up and carried you towards the reception area. The group had followed heading to their seats as all the food was being served.
“How are you feeling, Mrs. Garcia?” Mickey beamed at you.
“Absolutely in love, Mr. Garcia.” Winking at him, you leaned over and gave him a peck. It was so easy to get lost in each other. After all, you two had practice since you were five. You had a whole life together and were ready for more, greedily taking what you could get.
“You two are so sickly cute it’s disgustingly endearing. Remind me to nausea meds when I’m around the both of you,” Reuben teased you both. He was sitting at the table next to Mickey, shoving food in his mouth with a grin.
“Oh, I second that. It was bad enough I was forced to see her read the novels he sent her but now I have to see them interact in person.” Casey, your best friend who was your maid of honor chuckled. She sipped on her drink next to you with her date on the other side hiding a laugh with her hand.
“Hey, I wasn’t that bad. And those letters were sweet.” You grumbled under your breath causing the whole table to laugh. In all honesty, you were down bad.
She raised an eyebrow at you, “Need I remind you of the events leading to your callsign, Wraith?” She had got you there, not even your loving husband knew about that.
“Nope!” You squeaked, cheeks turning a dark crimson color. Reuben gave a questioning look to Mickey who shrugged back. He knew of your callsign, just not the story of how it came to you.
“Now you have to tell us. You can’t expect us not to bite the bait you’ve just thrown at us.”
Casey opened her mouth to speak but stopped at the look you gave her, instead she shrugged. “Sorry. Lips are sealed.”
“How wonderful,” you replied dryly, shaking your head at her. The others protested, wanting to hear the story that managed to ruffle your feathers. “I promise it’s nothing too interesting. She’s just making it out to seem like more than it really is.”
“I beg to differ,” Casey said behind her glass, smirking at you from the memory but relented in the end. It wasn’t everyday she got to tease you endlessly which had been payback for all the times you’ve done it to her. But she knew her limits and didn’t plan on crossing that line lest it fall back on her.
Reuben perked up at the exchange, “You’re not getting out of it that easily, I will expect an explanation some time in the future. As for now, go have your first dance you two lovebirds.” He and Casey had all but pushed you and Mickey out of your seats towards the makeshift dance floor.
Giggling at their antics you grabbed Mickey’s hand in yours pulling yourself into his embrace as the music played after the announcement of your first dance.
Finally having a moment to yourselves without any interruptions before the rest of the party joins you.
You looked up at him, completely love-struck, eyes shining with emotion. “I love you, Mr. Garcia.”
“I love you more, Mrs. Garcia.” He smiles, leaning down and pulls you into a kiss.

Blurb request: The immortal snail ☠️
…anon what?
But I have an idea.
Find other Hymns of Heaven here.
And find the Master List for As Above, So Below here.
Tumblr media
April 1984
Eddie’s first DND character with Hellfire Club had been a Tabaxi Rogue named Perceval Stayne—after Sir Perceval of Arthurian legend…and of course who could pass up playing a cat burglar. He’d been a freshman, eager to play with real players and not just his friends. Mickey had said Perceval was cool.
Harvey Simpson, the founder of the Hellfire Club and the DM at the time, told him that Perceval would have been great…if only his best stat wasn’t charisma, of all things.
“Dexterity,” Harvey tapped at the character sheet. “Or intelligence should be your highest.”
“My uncle says my mouth is my best feature,” Eddie explained. He wanted a cool character..but he also wanted one that felt true to him to begin with. Make a good impression and not fumble endlessly. He’d get better. “I could sell ice during a blizzard.”
Harvey had huffed and puffed but ultimately let him do what he wanted. And Perceval’s big mouth is what got the party out of a few pinches several times.
Eddie’s big mouth got them out of several pinches.
It also got him a second date with you at, coincidentally, the library so he could do some prep for the next few sessions.
“It’s a really cool game, I swear,” Eddie explained. “I’m DM this year and we’ve got this freshman Gareth who is like…he’s been trying so hard. But seeing his eyes light up…that’s just why we play, you know?”
You whispered questions and answers to each other as the two of you perused the shelves—what kind of books you liked to read, favorite book as a child, that kind of thing—and then Eddie surprised you with a study room in the depths of the library reserved just for the two of you.
“So we can have snacks without getting yelled at,” he explained.
“Just snacks?” You teased.
“And maybe kiss a little without getting caught,” he grinned mischievously and you shut the door before planting one on him with a giggle.
The date was spent mostly in silence, the study room filled only with the sounds pages turning, a pencil scribbling, snack wrappers crunching, and the occasional laughter as one of you—usually Eddie—started playing footsie.
You grabbed a few books for yourself, easy reads, simple chapter books with mystery and fantasy and intrigue to keep with Eddie’s theme.
Currently you were lost in the pages of Tuck Everlasting, you even ignored Eddie’s last attempt to get your attention. He watched you for a moment, memorized the way your eyes darted across the pages and your expression changed.
He wanted to live here forever, in this moment. And something at the very depth of his being thought that he would feel this way about every moment, every second, that he was gifted with you.
“Obviously your favorite is Jesse,” he broke the silence and your eyes darted up to meet his. You fidgeted in your seat as you watched him watch you. “Handsome, adventurous—”
“Cocky,” you smirked.
“I would say ‘confident.’” Eddie shrugged. “Tell me I’m wrong though.”
“You are wrong, actually,” you set the book down and folded your hands over it. “Miles is my favorite.”
Eddie frowned.
All of the girls in his 6th grade English class had a silly crush on Jesse. He never understood until he reread the book last summer when he was preparing for his first campaign as DM, hoping to include some secret stranger like the man in the yellow suit. Then he likened himself to Jesse. Enjoying life where he could, despite the hand he’d been dealt…or in spite of it. He was romantic…wanted Winnie to marry him one day…drink from the spring so they could be together forever.
“Jesse…he was impulsive,” you began, as if you could read his mind. “What more did he love about Winnie than the fact that he could be himself around her. Because the family’s secret was finally free. She was just a child who saw this…fantastical thing, this family and this fun older boy, and she thinks she’ll be free of this stuffy life in Tree Gap…and when trouble arose, she wanted to protect her friends.
“Jesse just wanted to repay her…there was no…real love there outside of maybe friendship. But he’s lonely too…wanted to reward himself. Maybe he could actually love Winnie one day…maybe…but he’d always have another person to be free with. Offering her immortality is for him more than it was for her. Or for love.
“Miles though…Miles was bitter, sure. Because he loved with everything he had in him. Love his wife, loved his family so deeply that he never wanted to be without them. He wanted a normal life together with them. No matter the circumstances.
“He would give anything—would rather die—than see his his wife and children hurt or unhappy,” you concluded, breathing heavily.
Eddie watched you for a second and contemplated your words. He’d never really thought of it that way before. Yes Miles was a character you could empathize with, his loss of the ones he loved…but…
“But he couldn’t die,” Eddie muttered.
“No he couldn’t.”
“So what would you pick then?” Eddie challenged. “A normal life with someone you loved, grow old, and die together…or an eternal carefree life?”
“Eddie, eternity isn’t carefree,” you deadpanned as you picked up the book and shook it at him. “Case in point.”
“Ok fine…you can live forever and do whatever you want,” he started and looked around the study room for a second to come up with some idea. “But…your eternal nemesis is a snail that will kill you if it finds you and touches you.”
“What the fuck?”
“Answer the question ma’am, the audience is waiting,” Eddie spoke into an imaginary microphone and then held it to you across the table.
“I would take the normal life, Monty,” you answered.
“Interesting,” Eddie leant back in his chair and folded his arms across his chest.
“Really heavy second date questions here.”
“Thank you. Gotta know if I’m gonna keep you.”
“You’re not getting rid of me that easily,” you replied and shook your head. “I already kissed you after you said you’d drink trash juice.”
“Ha fucking ha.”
“Alright, spotlight’s on you now,” you held the imaginary microphone to your lips now. “Edward Munson. Normal life with someone you loved, or a carefree eternity?” You held it out to him.
“You forgot about the snail Alex,” Eddie spoke into the microphone.
“Clock’s ticking,” you urged and hummed the Jeopardy theme song.
“If I really had to choose, sure a normal life with you would be my choice sweetheart.” He winked and watched you fidget again.
“But I think we’re missing one key factor here. Miles didn’t know he was immortal until his kids were grown, until his wife was old. Otherwise, I would bet he would have definitely had them drink from the spring too. Both of the brothers had the same idea.
“So if, if we’re playing by Tuck Everlasting rules here,” Eddie leaned forward and spoke into the microphone, eyes never leaving yours, never blinking. “I think I would say ‘why couldn’t we have both?’”

Tagged by @gavotteangel: Thank tou so much for thinking of me!
Rules: Pick any ten of your fics, scroll roughly to the midpoint, pick a line (or three) and share it. Then tag ten people.
A More Formal Title (Jesper/Wylan): The letters of the bold headline meant nothing to him, but the artist’s rendition of the scene was telling— a tall, handsome figure that he’d know anywhere, from any artist’s pen; and the smaller one, certainly meant to be him. This was from just two nights ago. They were walking under a streetlamp, back to the geldstraat from the Crow Club, when Jesper had tugged him back by their joined hands— their ringed hands— and spun him into a kiss.
Keep You Safe (Jesper/Wylan (I went to the middle of the entire work)): They avoided mentioning the gambling, or any of the jobs they’d done— not in detail, at least. They especially avoided the parem. Ghezen, they’d talked around that until they were dizzy from the anxious circles. Colm had adjusted to the increasing reminders of his son’s gang affiliation and his bad habits at the tables with relative ease, but not the parem. Every time they grazed by it in the slightest passing, there was a stony mask that came down over Colm’s face. There was a darkening in his eyes, a tension in the crows feet around them.
Color and Light (Joe/Nicky): That day, though, as he turned that last corner, everything seemed to pause. There on the steps, steeped in jasmine and the first plumes of rosebuds, was the Southern Prince. Yusuf, that was what he said his name was. Yusuf sat on the pavilion steps, framed with greenery and breathing deeply in the sweet air— he held the brown leather book open on his lap, and a well-loved charcoal in his hand. His brow furrowed, and the littlest tip of his pink tongue was just visible between his lips.
I Travel Alone (Pierre/Mickey): Abandoning the toast and coffee, he couldn’t bring himself to let go of the paper as he whirled himself up to standing and nearly bowled over poor Suna before she could scurry off down the hall. There was something alight in his chest that felt all-encompassing, desperately beating against his ribs. His lungs felt like they were breathing for the first time since… well, since long before London, since the Pilasters. It was as if his father had been seated on his chest like a gargoyle all this time.
The Plea of Cepheus (Baby Joe and Ibrahim): “That’s your Mama’s favorite.” His voice caught in his throat, thinking of his sweet wife. “That circle of stars is al-Awaidh. The story tells that they are a circle of mother camels, protecting a foal… do you see the one at the back? One of the mothers is running to catch up— she is chased by the two stars behind them, aldhibah. They are the claws of the… they’re the claws of the wolves.”
Gentle (Piccolo Nicolo and his Mama): Alàgia wasn’t meant to give him heirs— Fabrizio already had those, four of them, grown up after the deaths of his first two wives. He was far too old to want one so young (though it hardly stopped him from taking a young wife). And, while he’d never say it aloud, he didn’t have the land or assets to split yet again to another child.
He didn’t love Nicolò.
Another Hundred People (Joe/Nicky): The man shuffled his feet, squirming a little under Nicolò’s gaze, but he didn’t drop them. His eyes flitted across the picture they painted, taking them in like a museum exhibit he really needed to read the plaque for.
Gaining Heart (Nasir/Agron): From the villa, the others would depart for Salernum. There was no curfew, there was no assigned time at which city gates closed— Salernum yet believed themselves too far south to be in danger from the road bandits they’d heard tell of. When Gannicus had told him so upon return from a scouting mission not a week ago, he had laughed brightly at the false sense of security.
Still Awake? (Joe/Nicky): Joe’s brow furrowed, eyes squeezing tighter before blinking open. He was bleary and confused, eyes adjusting to the unexpected light as he focused in on Nicky’s profile. He hummed, raspy and low, still heavy with exhaustion as he stroked his hand up Nicky’s spine before pushing his fingers into the hair falling over his forehead.
All The Time in the World (Joe/Nicky): He touched Yusuf that evening with tender hands. He’d never touched him before, not really— without an urgent need or the intent to harm. He swiped the blood from his skin with tender, trembling strokes, and Yusuf didn’t look at him with the same suspicion he’d always had. He watched him like he was studying something entirely new and different.
I am apparently incapable of doing anything that isn't the most long-winded paragraph in the world haha so I'll keep the tags brief: @liggytheauthoress, @the73rdpostscript, @lazaefair, @non-un-topo, and @maddielle (no pressure!) and anyone else who'd like to!

Does Mickey finally take Hyde on a real date?
Oh for sure, when you finally let him back in. It’s a simple date by the water, fish and chips with a few beers. Mickey plans it all out and little Logan comes with because where else would Logan be if not with you and Mickey.
I feel like you would still have a little bit of a guard up. The two times you’d been burned left scars in your heart—but Mickey was trying.
“We don’t have to rush into anything here.” You say all the while watching little Logan try to eat the sand that Mickey is desperately trying to get out of his hands. “I’m okay just being friends if you aren’t ready or need time to heal.” It was coming up on Logan’s first birthday soon which meant it was coming up the the one year anniversary of Mickeys wife’s passing.
“I never thought I’d move on—“ Mickey explained as he let Logan sit in his lap. “It’s hard to explain because sometimes it feels like it’s far too soon, but other times all I can think about is you and wanting more with you and—I don’t know if that makes me a bad person for moving on so quickly but she’s gone you know?” You know what Mickey means. “She’s gone and she’s not coming back.”
“I don’t think that you love her any less for moving on Mickey.” You tried to comfort him the way you would have wanted to be if you were in his position.
“I like you, I really do.” It changed from love to like and like to love periodically. “I just think you deserve someone who isn’t so confused.” This was feeling more and more like a breakup than a date.
“What are you confused about?” You asked softly and without any malice as you broke of some battered fish for Logan, who took it happily from you with a smile. “I’m serious, because if you’re confused about if an appropriate amount of time has passed before you can love again, that’s just something you’ve capped yourself with.” Mickey just sat and listened as the spoke, he wasn’t about to argue either because you made sense. “Times an artificial construct and no-one gets to dictate when you get to experience love.”
Again Mickey didn’t interrupt as you grabbed some fish for yourself. But in that very moment he was wondering if his wife would have liked you—he decided she would have. You cared more about the people around you than you cared about yourself.
“And I’m not even just saying this because I think you’re a really cool guy and I seriously think I’m in love with you in some fucked up Stockholm syndrome kinda way because you keep shutting me out and pushing me away and telling me day after day you aren’t ready but I keep coming back for more.”
“A Glutton for punishment.” Mickey rubs the back of his neck nervously because he knows he hurt you and he knows he’s lucky you even agreed to have dinner with him. “Again, I’m sorry, I just—I felt i everything was moving to quickly, and I like you, so much, but I’m still not sure how to react when I wake up in my bed and its not empty but it’s not my wife either.”
“So we just keep this friendly until you are.” You shrug, it’s a bid deal to hand over the keys when you’re so used to driving, but for Mickey you were sure you’d do just about anything. “Friends and when you’re ready, we’ll talk again, about possibly being more and if you just decide that I’m not even the one than that’s okay too.”
But the idea of it not being you is so much scarier than Mickey ever thought it could be. So when he leans in to kiss you and he sees you kind of flinch at his actions? He knows he’d actually done more damage than he could have ever imagined.
“Don’t kiss me unless you mean it.”
“I mean it.”
“Mickey—“ You’re apprehensive. “Please—“
“I’m gonna kiss you right now and tell you that I want this, all of this, just—slow, help me?” And Mickey kind of expects you to say no. They he isn’t worth putting back together, he isn’t worth waiting for the glue to dry. That you can’t deal with a man who can’t regulate his emotions because he lost the love of his life and can’t fathom getting his heart broken again.
“Okay.” You whisper before leaning in, taking Mickeys lips hostage with yours softly and tentatively. Because he’s Mickey and you’re in love with him. You have been since the very beginning.

Hello, hello, I am back once againnnnn 🎉
Just saw your newest AutisticMickey HCs and I'm fucking addicted to them. Do you have more HCs for when they're still on the first seasons of the show? Thank you!!!
hellooooo!
oof season 1 my little babies
i think mickeys inability to self regulate his emotions specifically in the earlier seasons is a combination of autism and toxic masculinity. he could have self regulated if he was taught to... but terry encouraged his outbursts because the only emotion any man was allowed to show in that house was anger. being with ian, learning to unmask, and accepting himself are the first steps to self regulating. and it makes sense he would regress when planning his wedding and in mid-covid-s11 because those are very stressful situations thats hes not prepared or scripted ahead of time
i genuinely dont know what i think happened between "i need to see you" and them getting caught by kash. i presume they were at the store for a while before being caught. maybe an hour? spending most of it talking? maybe ian laying his soul bare, telling mickey all about monica and why he loves her yet doesnt want her back. mickey saying he gets it, his dad obviously sucks and his mom wasnt the best. sometimes she would tell terry shes sick of his shit and run out only to return a week later and pretend it never happened. and he says that ian will be fine waiting out the time until monica decides to fuck off again - because hes strong like that. and ian is strong, but hes too upset to think straight right now
maybe mickey wants to take his mind off everything, direct him by changing the subject to asking if ian wants to go shooting after work ("you still haven't shown me your gun skills, firecrotch. wanna see what those army bitches taught you). in my ideal world, maybe this is when they have their first kiss... but eventually they fall back into old routine like the horny teenagers they are, and thats when kash interrupts them and everything goes to shit
i personally believe mickey was giving ian head as early as s1, definitely in s2. i think its silly to assume he wouldnt just because he distanced himself emotionally from ian by not kissing him. he knows hes gay, hes just scared of getting attached because he knew he would make a mistake and get caught (which is exactly what happened in s3). theyre horny teens. theyre gonna give and receive oral sex. we see every other character have sex every which way, let mickey give bjs
the sleepover was absolutely makeout central. and they definitely shared mickeys bed, when they eventually passed out in a high, sweaty, naked heap at 4am
