Enchanté | Drama Review

After living in France, Theo comes back to Thailand to study at his father's school. Living in Thailand once again makes his surroundings new, but he does make one friend, Ak. Theo finds a book in the library that welcomes him, and the writer signs Enchanté, which means "nice to meet you" in French. Theo becomes curious about who this Enchanté guy is and tells Ak about it. Ak quickly exposes the situation, and four guys come forward claiming that they are Enchanté. Will Theo successfully guess who is the legit Enchanté among the 4 guys claiming to be him?

Interesting Plot but Lack of Development

I actually adored the plot for Enchanté, it's completely whimsical and so rarely seen in BL dramas. Furthermore, when I saw the trailer, there was something about the cinematography, the colour palette or just the vibes that really enticed me. This drama could have gone places if not for the severe lack of episodes or the weird plot+character development on unimportant bits that caused the hurried ending at the end.

Let's first discuss the number of episodes this drama had. I am completely fine with 10 episodes but when you mix 10 episodes together with this storyline and the unevenness in development, 10 episodes are simply not enough. This is a problem I seem to notice in so many BL dramas, what is up with the rushed ending? If the production already had time to discuss script and or that, couldn't they have discussed a better flow for the plot? I feel the growth of a new pet peeve that is rushed ending when it could have been easily avoided!

Why was there so much focus on Saifa, Natee, Wayo and Phupha? At the rate the drama was going with these four, I really thought they would be a huge part in how the finale would play out. Unfortunately, with Enchanté's finale, maybe we could have seen more of Theo's parents instead? Since they obviously played a huge part in the chosen finale... Also, where the hell was Sun's development? This homeboy deserved more spotlight shone on him over any of the four I just mentioned.

And then we have the issue also known as the drama's conflict. Honestly speaking, was GMMTV so short on time that nobody could come up with a better conflict? And did nobody feel how ridiculous it was for the conflict resolution to happen so quickly? I guess with the number of episode the production team was given, it "made sense" for the conflict resolution to happen the way it did and the time it took... Unfortunately, it did not make any sense to me. The reason behind the conflict was absolutely nonsensical for the amount of tantrum Theo threw for it – Theo had more connection with the grandmother we never saw than his parents whom he hasn't been with since years ago. Also, with Theo's maturity, his tantrum was so unlike him. You mean to tell me Theo could listen to Phupha and Wayo explain their lies but could not spare a second to understand why Akk chose not to tell Theo about his parents? Like Akk said, Theo's parents' separation was not Akk's news to tell. I do not appreciate when a conflict in a drama was created for the sake of the drama but completely disregarded the characteristics of the people involved in said conflict.

I said this before and I will say it again. Enchanté could have gone places but the writing and directing was all over the place. If not for Akk and his family, I would have given this drama a much lower rating.

started (and finished already) reading enchanté fanfiction, which has been great, except for the fact that i trained myself to read "theo" as "tiw" like the thai pronunciation and this has lead to me calling my real life white friend theo the same outloud
