Full Mac Apps
On this website, I have covered a ton of paid apps, and that’s because in general, paid apps tend to offer more when compared to free apps. However, that does not mean that there are no good free apps out there. In fact, there are a ton of them. That’s why it is going to be a long article as I am bringing a list of 35 best free apps you can get for your Mac right now. Some of the apps on this list are evergreen and you most probably already have them installed on your device. But some of them are entirely new. Well, at least they are new to me and that’s the beauty of it. No matter, how old an app is, it is new for somebody out there. That said, no matter how avid a Mac user you are, I can bet that you will find new Mac apps in this article that you have never heard of before. So, open your Macs and get ready to download these awesome free Mac apps.

Note: Be sure to read our must-have iPhone apps article to get the best apps for your iPhone in 2020.

Best Free Mac Apps You Should Install in 2020
While most of the apps in this list are free, some of them offer a paid option. That being said, when it comes to paid apps, I have only included those options that offer a generous free tier. I am using free versions of all the apps (that offer paid options) and find them suitable for most users. No app with a free trial or heavily restricted free tier has been included.
1. Audiobook Binder
The power of Mac. Taken further. Dedicated apps for music, TV, and podcasts. Smart new features like Sidecar, powerful technologies for developers, and your favorite iPad apps, now on Mac. Apr 06, 2020.
While you can listen to books in MP3 format, I like the M4B format more as it supports chapters. M4B is also the native format that Apple Books support. If you want to keep your music library separate from the book library, this is the format to use. Audiobook Binder is an app that lets you convert MP3 files into M4B files. It also lets you bind multiple MP3 files into a single M4B file and converts those MP3 files into chapters. You can also add custom book cover and edit book’s metadata including name, author, and narrator. I have been using this app for the past year and a half to listen to public domain audiobooks and lectures and it has never failed me.
Install:Free
2. LastPass
Password management is something people ignore. Since passwords are hard to remember and most third-party password managers charge a hefty monthly subscription fee, not everyone is aboard the strong and different password train. To those users, I suggest LastPass. LastPass offers a very generous free tier that allows you to use the software on two different machines. And if you want to use it on more, you can always use its web app that works everywhere. I have been using LastPass for the past two years to manage my passwords and I never had any problem.
Its apps are installed on my primary MacBook Pro (learn MacBook Pro tips and tricks) and my iPhone. Since it supports browser plugins and iPhone’s automatic password fill feature, I never have to type my password or remember them. All my passwords are secure, long, and use an alpha-numeric combination. If you are still using the same password everywhere or setting weak passwords, try out LastPass. It’s free for personal use and you have no excuses not to use it. Its one of the best free Mac apps that you can get.
Facebook App For Mac
Install:Free, $3/user/month
3. Brave
While I love Safari and use it for most of my tasks, it’s not perfect and I have to turn to other browsers from time to time. My biggest problem with Safari is its nescient extension library. Safari is also slow to adopt the latest web technologies. I know Apple does this to keep browsing private and secure, but sometimes it causes hindrance in my work. For a long time, I was using Chrome for this work but I hated two things about it. First, Google Chrome is a resource hog and decreases battery life, causes overheating, and several other problems. Second and more importantly, I don’t like sharing my data with Google more than I already do. It was one of the reasons why I switch from Android to iOS several years back.
The solution is the Brave browser. It’s a browser that is built on the same Chromium engine that Google Chrome uses, so you are getting all the features and extension support. But, since the creators focus on privacy, your data is always secure. It brings an automatic tracking blocker and even blocks most of the annoying ads. Since it blocks the most harmful scripts, you get to enjoy a faster internet. Also, in my testing, it’s far better than Google Chrome at handling resources. While it’s not as good as Safari, that’s a trade-off that I am ready to make. If you are also looking for a good Chrome alternative, you should try using the Brave browser.
Install:Free
4. CopyClip
CopyClip is a Mac utility that stores everything you copy in a clipboard. Copy-and-paste is so integral to our work that we cannot even imagine a time when this feature was not available. Still, Mac’s clipboard is probably the most neglected feature in the macOS. Even after so decades, you still cannot hold more than one entry in your clipboard. Enter, CopyClip. It’s a clipboard manager that saves entries into the clipboard. You can use a simple keyboard shortcut to easily copy any item and paste them anywhere you want. CopyClip not only saves text input but also preserves images and documents. While I use “Paste” for my clipboard management as it offers more features, for a free app, CopyClip works exceptionally well.
Install:Free
5. BBEdit
For a long time, it was hard to recommend a good free text editor on Mac. All the good ones were paid, and the free ones were just not up to the mark. Well, after a long hiatus, BBEdit, one of the most exemplary text editors, is back on the Mac App Store. For the past 20 years, BBEdit has been the text editor to beat and now that it’s back on the App Store with a freemium model, you can use it for free. Only the advanced features of BBEdit are hidden behind a paywall and 90% of regular users will not need those features.
Whether you want to write a long blog post, edit snippets of code, design website or web apps, BBEdit is the text editor to use. The best thing about BBEdit is how fast it works. It opens text files with hundreds of thousands of words in seconds and never falters. In my years of using this app, I have not lost even a single line of text. It has a powerful search that lets you locate and find keywords across files. There’s no free text editor out there that can match its prowess.
Install:Free, $49.99
6. NetNewsWire
The death of Google Reader placed a dark cloud over the future of RSS readers. But, if anything, RSS is showing a sign of resurgence in the past year or so. From the launch of acclaimed RSS reader app Reeder 4 to the rebirth of NetNewsWire, RSS readers are becoming popular again. And if you are looking to create a personal news feed, there’s no better app to do it with than NetNewsWire. Built on-top of free and open source reader named Evergreen, NetNewsWire is an excellent feed reader for Mac.
The app makes it easy to subscribe to RSS feeds and brings excellent search capabilities. It also brings a beautiful design and I adore its dark mode. It also supports online feed syncing services such as Feedbin. I still prefer Reeder 4 as it brings more features, but seeing how NetNewsWire is still young and free to use, I cannot fault it. If you are looking for a free RSS reader, you should try NetNewsWire.
Install:Free
7. DaVinci Resolve
While Macs come with a basic video editor for free (iMovie), anyone who is serious about video editing will have to go for the pro video editing apps. The problem with apps like Final Cut Pro or Adobe Premiere Pro is that they cost a lot. If you don’t want to spend hundreds of dollars, and still want to use a full-fledged video editor, DaVinci Resolve is the best option for you. Even when I am writing this, I cannot believe that such a capable video editor is free to use.
The latest version of the software, DaVinci Resolve 16 combines professional 8K editing, color correction, visual effects, and audio post-production all in one software tool. Color correction tools of DaVinci Resolve are better than most paid video editors including FCP and Premiere Pro. From custom timeline settings to facial recognition to keyframe editing, it brings all features that you require from a professional video editor. It is one of the best free Mac software that you can install. Free Mac apps don’t get better than this.
Install:Free
8. Folx
Folx is a powerful native download manager for Mac that not only works great but also looks cool. It features a true Mac-style interface and supports both direct and torrent downloads. The app also offers extensions for Safari, Chrome, Opera, and Firefox. The extensions help Folx in catching downloads and thus ensure that you are not using the crappy download manager of your browser. Folx can split downloads into multiple threads resulting in faster downloads and also support download pause and restart. The free version of the app is enough for most users. I was using it for years without any complaints. I only bought the paid version to support the developers. The extra features are nice to have but they have not drastically affected by usage.
Install:Free, $19.99
9. NightOwl
macOS Mojave introduced dark mode to our favorite desktop operating system. The dark mode on macOS Mojave is not half-cooked as it is on windows. When you turn on the dark mode on your Mac, not only it turns the system UI but also the stock apps. Not only that, apps that support automatic dark mode also adhere to the same guideline. Once you turn it on, they automatically default to dark mode.
While that's great in most situation, I wish Apple included a way to create a whitelist for apps that are not functional in dark mode. The default Mail app and the Evernote app are a few examples of an app that still work best in light mode. That's where NightOwl comes in. It's a menu bar app that allows you to create a whitelist of apps that you don't want to use in dark mode. Not only that, but it also allows you to quickly switch between dark and light mode with a simple click at its icon. You can read more about the app in our article here. The app is completely free to download and use with a voluntary donation.
Install:NightOwl
10. Unsplash Wallpapers
I want to start this article with an app which I have discovered just a couple of months back and have fallen in love. As its name suggests, Unsplash Wallpapers is a wallpaper app for Mac which gives you access to unlimited ultra-high resolution wallpapers for your Macs. One of the things that I love most about MacBooks is its display. Apple packs phenomenal displays on the Macs. Stop me if it’s just me, but I enjoy changing the wallpapers on a regular basis just because they look so damn beautiful on my Mac’s display.
Before I discovered Unsplash Wallpapers, it used to be a chore to change wallpapers. First, I had to find good wallpapers, then I had to download them, and only then I could use them. With Unsplash Wallpapers app, you can change the wallpaper just with one click. If you like a wallpaper, you can even download it. If you love wallpapers, you are going to love this free Mac app.
Install:Unsplash Wallpapers
11. The Unarchiver
This is one of the first free Mac apps that I download whenever I move on to a new Mac. The app is basically the best unarchiving app you can get for your Mac, free or otherwise. The Unarchiver cannot only unarchive common formats such as Zip, RAR (including v5), 7-zip, Tar, Gzip, and Bzip2, but it can also open formats such as StuffIt, DiskDoubler, LZH, ARJ, ARC, ISO and BIN disc images, Windows.EXE installers and more. Basically, it’s a one-stop solution for all your unarchiving needs.
Install:The Unarchiver
12. Amphetamine
We all know that Macs bring a long battery life and while some of it has to do with Apple’s excellent hardware, most of it is because of how macOS efficiently manages battery. One of the things that macOS does to preserve the battery life on your computer is to put it to sleep whenever you don’t interact with your Mac for a set period of time. While this is really good, sometimes you need to keep your Mac running even if you are not interacting with it. One of the examples that come to mind is when you are downloading a large file. If your Mac falls asleep during the download, it will stop it, and depending on the software that you are using to download the file, you might have to restart the download from the beginning.
Amphetamine solves this problem by allowing users to keep their Macs awake even when they are not doing anything. The app is powerful and allows users to keep their Macs awake for how much ever long they want. Not only that, users can also set triggers to keep their Macs awake. For example, you can tell Amphetamine to not put your Mac to sleep whenever a certain app is running. Lastly, it allows you to easily access all these features as it lives right there in your Mac’s menu bar. It’s one of the most useful apps for Macs and I love it.
Install:Amphetamine
13. GIPHY Capture
Gifs are all the rage today. More and more users are creating and sharing their own gifs. And if you want to be one of them then this is the tool you need. GIPHY Capture is an app that lets you capture and create gifs. Once you launch the app it will create a translucent green window with a capture button at the bottom. All you need to do is to drop the window on top of the video you want to capture and click on the capture button. Once you are done with the recording, click on the record button again to stop the recording. It is probably the easiest way to create gifs on your Mac.
Install:GIPHY Capture
14. Spectacle
Spectacle is one of the apps that I install instantly on a new Mac. Macs are good at many things but one thing that still eludes it is a good window management feature. Apple has not solved the window management problem in the latest macOS Catalina so I guess, we have to wait for one more year. In fact, the window management problem has become even worse in macOS Catalina in my opinion. If you are also fed up of Apple's native approach towards window management, you should Install Spectacle.
This is a simple menu bar app that allows you to easily resize and place windows with keyboard commands. I can easily set a window to either half of the display both vertically and horizontally, make it go full screen, snap it to the center, and more. Once you install this app, your window management workflow will become ten times faster.
Install:Spectacle
15. ImageOptim
ImageOptim is one of the most used free Mac apps on my MacBook Pro. In my line of work, I have to attach a ton of screenshots (like in this article). And before I upload any picture on my website, I pass it through ImageOptim. The app deletes all the unnecessary metadata such as GPS position and camera's serial number and compresses the image. This allows me to upload the image on the web without any privacy hazards and ensures that the file sizes are low.
The app is pretty easy to use. You just drag and drop images into its window and then click on the button at the bottom-right corner. If you share a ton of images on the web (whether on your blog or social media websites like Twitter and Facebook), it will be good for you to pass it through ImageOptim first. I have used paid image compression apps but nothing has been as good and as easy to use as ImageOptim.
Install:ImageOptim
16. Alfred 4
Alfred is an all-purpose tool for your Mac which can boost your productivity ten folds if you learn how to use it. Of course, there’s a learning curve to this app, but if you invest in it, it will pay you back. Alfred allows you to quickly launch apps, use text expansion snippets, search on the Mac and web, use hotkeys and keywords, and much more. Alfred used to be a paid app, but the developers were kind enough to release the app for free. There are add-on power packs that you can buy, to use cool features like Alfred workflows. But, for most normal users, the free app itself is enough to boost their productivity.
Install:Alfred 4
17. Pocket
Pocket is a popular read it later service which allows you to save articles offline so that you can read them later. I mostly browse for articles on my Mac and whenever I find something that I would want to read, I just save it in Pocket. Pocket has an excellent Safari extension that allows me to save articles and read them later. Since Pocket syncs across devices, all my saved articles are automatically synced to my iPhone where I can read them at my will. Recently, I have also started using Pocket as a research tool. Since Pocket allows me to organize saved articles using tags, I just tag the items I am using for research so that I can find them easily later.
Install:Pocket
18. Spark
Spark is my most favorite free app on Mac. For those who don’t know, Spark is an email client for Mac. I love spark because it intelligently categorizes all the emails that I receive into different categories, giving me access to the most important emails first. It also has a very robust set of features. I can easily snooze, archive, delete, and tag emails. I also love the fact that it allows me easily search for emails using natural language search. I can also search for emails based on attachments, and more. Lastly, Spark also has apps for both iOS and watchOS so no matter which device I am on, I can user Sparks to get through all my emails.
Install:Spark
19. GIMP
GIMP or GNU Image Manipulation Program is an open source photo editor for Mac which packs so many features that you won’t be able to discover all of them in your lifetime. It is basically Photoshop but free. You can use GIMP to perform any kind of image manipulation that you can think of. That said, since it packs so many features, GIMP also has a pretty steep learning curve. Also, being a free an open-source project, its user interface is not very intuitive and feels archaic. That’s why I recommend GIMP only to those users who need a robust photo editing software but cannot afford to buy one.
Install:GIMP

20. DarkTable
As per the description of the app on its website, 'DarkTable is an open source photography workflow application and raw developer. A virtual light-table and darkroom for photographers. It manages your digital negatives in a database, lets you view them through a zoomable light-table, and enables you to develop raw images and enhance them'.
Basically, it is super powerful photo editing app for Mac that allows you to use pro-level photo editing features for free. You are required to learn the app as it has a steep learning curve but once you get used to it, you won't go back to even the best-paid photo editing apps on the market. This one is definitely one of the free Mac apps that you can download in 2019.
Install:DarkTable
21. Simplenote
Simplenote is one of the best designed free Mac apps you can find. As its name suggests, Simplenote is an easy note taking app which allows you to easily jot down notes. What I love about this app is that even though it is completely free, your notes are synced across devices. Apart from its online sync features, I am also a fan of its clean user interface. Simplenote is also a really good app for someone who is looking for a clean app to write long-form content. You can use tags to organize notes easily and search for them using either their title, content, or tags. I have been using this app for quite a few years and I still don’t understand how it’s free. If you love writing, you will love Simplenote.
Install:Simplenote
22. Itsycal
Itsycal is an open source small menu bar calendar application for Mac. If you like Fantastical 2 for Mac, but hate that it’s priced so high, Itsycal is for you. Although Itsycal is nowhere as powerful as Fantastical 2, it brings all the basic features that you would want from a menu bar based calendar app. It shows you month view of your calendar, your upcoming events, and also allows you to create or delete events. I also love the fact that I can configure Itsycal to show not only the date but also the month and the day in the menu bar icon itself. It’s a good menu bar application and a must have for anyone who schedules everything on their calendar.
Install:Itsycal
23. Audacity
Audacity is one of those free Mac apps that is even better than most of the paid apps out there. For those who don’t know, Audacity is an audio editor app for your Mac (available for Windows PC too). If you are someone who deals with a ton of audio, you must have already heard about this software. If you have not, you probably don’t need it. Still, it’s such a good app that I couldn’t keep it away from the list. Just remember that if you ever need to edit an audio file to make it better, Audacity is the tool to do it.
Install:Audacity
24. Lightworks
Lightworks is a full-fledged video editing app which gives you access to all the tools that you will need to get your video editing on. To be fair, Lightworks also sell a Pro version of the app, however, the free version is powerful enough to handle most of the tasks. Whether you are a budding YouTuber or someone who just want to give an edge to their homemade videos, Lightworks is the right tool for you. What I love most about this app is that the website gives you ample tutorial videos to get you started. If by any chance you were looking for a free video editing software, look no further and download Lightworks.
Install:Lightworks
25. HiddenMe
HiddenMe is a small menu bar app which comes in very handy at times when you want to show a clean desktop without having to organize your stuff. The app lives in your menu bar and allows you to do one thing and one thing only, and that’s hiding everything on your desktop. With a click of the button, everything that’s on your desktop is hidden, giving you access to a clean desktop. I constantly use this app whenever I am giving a presentation or taking screenshots of my desktop for an article. This small application has saved me from embarrassing myself a number of times and it can do that for you too.
Install:HiddenMe
26. AppCleaner
Do you know that whenever you delete an app on your Mac, it leaves behind a ton of residual files which does nothing but eating up storage on your Mac? Well, it’s true and if you install and uninstall a ton of apps, you might have lost gigabytes of storage already. While there’s another app on this list which (Onyx) which can help you recover that storage, AppCleaner is an app which makes sure that the apps you delete don’t leave any residual files. Just launch the app and drag and drop the apps that you want to uninstall and it will take care of the rest. It is a must-have utility tool for any Mac user who wants to keep their Mac clean.
Install:AppCleaner
27. LiteIcon
LiteIcon is the app from the same developers who made the AppCleaner. It is a simple app which allows you to change your system icons quickly and easily. Simply drag an icon onto the one you want to change, and click the Apply Changes button. That's all you need to do. If you want your older icon back, just drag out the new icon. If you like to customize how your icons look on Mac, try out LiteIcon.
Install:LiteIcon
28. GrandPerspective
I have written about GrandPerspective a couple of times on this website and you might be familiar with it by now. For those who are new to our website, it’s an app which allows you to visualize storage on your Mac. Using GrandPerspective you can easily find out which files are using how much storage and find and delete the files which are not necessary. GrandPerspective is a very nice app for anyone who doesn’t have any idea as to where all his/her Mac’s storage went.
Install:GrandPerspective
29. Manuscript
Manuscript is a free Mac writing app for students which makes writing school assignments including dissertation easier. Manuscript is a powerful writing app which allows students to complete their assignments right from the planning stage to completing it. It lets students easily insert citations, figures, tables, mathematical equations, and more. The app also allows for importation of citations from various tools including Mendeley, Zotero, Papers 3, Bookends, and EndNote. If you are a student who is looking for a good writing app, you don’t have to look any farther than Manuscript.
Install:Manuscript
30. IINA
IINA is an open-source video player for your Mac which offers one of the best amalgamations of features and user interface. The app looks extremely beautiful and supports all the modern features including force touch, picture-in-picture, and even offers Touch-bar controls for the latest MacBook Pros. IINA also supports almost all the video formats that you can think of, including the ability to play even GIFs. The app also comes with theming capabilities allowing you to use either light or dark themes. I have discovered this app just a few weeks back and I am already in love with it. If you consume a ton of media on your MacBook Pro, this is the right app for you.
Install:IINA
31. OnyX
OnyX is your one-stop solution for all your Mac’s maintenance needs. In fact, I cannot describe the app better and more succinctly than what’s written on its website. OnyX is a multifunction utility that you can use to verify the structure of the system files, to run miscellaneous maintenance and cleaning tasks, to configure parameters in the Finder, Dock, Safari, and some of Apple's applications, to delete caches, to remove certain problematic folders and files, to rebuild various databases and indexes, and more. However, do remember that it is an advanced tool and hence before you do anything, make sure that you get familiar with the app as you don’t want to delete files which can corrupt your entire system.
Install:Onyx
32. SpotMenu
The last app on our list the SpotMenu app which is a nifty little menu bar application. The app basically allows you to control your iTunes and Spotify music player from the menu bar giving you access to controls such as play, pause, forward, and rewind. It’s a pretty basic application, however, it does come in handy. One thing that I like about the app is that it shows the name of the song that is currently playing right on your Mac’s menu bar. When you click on the icon, the drop-down window which harbors all the features also showcase the album art of the song that you are playing.
Install:SpotMenu
33. White Noise Lite
White Noise Lite is an app that helps you sleep better. If you are a light sleeper who wakes up multiple times in the night without any apparent reason then this app can help you sleep better. It brings fifty different HD quality ambient environment noises to help you sleep. The app brings a beautiful cover flow design which lets you easily swipe between cards to select different tasks. Although the app markets itself as a sleep enhancer, I mostly use to provide background music when I am working as it helps me concentrate. You should download this app right now and see if it helps you sleep better or work better. Whatever the result, you will be better off with this one in your arsenal.
Install:White Noise Lite
34. Shazam
Shazam is an app that needs no introduction. The app helps you discover songs by identifying whatever song is playing in the background. I personally use Shazam more as a tool to keep the list of songs that I have discovered. Suppose I am listening to a song and YouTube and want to save it. I just click on the menu bar icon of Shazam and it identifies the song and saves it on the list. I don't have to write it down anywhere. Later I can see the list and add to my Apple Music Playlist at my convenience. Shazam is a great app for discovering and keeping track of music that you like.
Install:Shazam
35. Muzzy
You know how when you accidentally yank headphones out of your iPhone, the music suddenly stops, well, Muzzy brings that functionality to your Mac. The app also does a lot of other things like allowing users to play, pause, and change the music from its menu bar app, integrates with Last.fm, shows songs lyrics, and more. However, I don’t care for any other features and I just use this app to stop music whenever I accidentally yank my headphones out. Sadly, the app only works if you are playing music through iTunes.
Install:Muzzy

How to Use Email Images to Boost CTR
Email is one of the most effective marketing campaigns out there — in fact, the average ROI of an email campaign is 122%.
For those who aren’t afraid to take a few extra steps, email images will spice up your campaign and help your email campaign stand out.
I’m going to show you how to leverage images in email the right way.
Email Images: Yes or No?
You can use email images, but should you?
I want to start by asking a few questions, because these will help you determine if using email images helps or hurts you. Read these and answer yes or no:
Do my images support my brand?
Have I optimized the image size?
Am I using the right number of images?
Am I properly using image alt tags?
Are my emails easily accessible?
Chances are you may not even know the answer to all these questions.
If that’s the case, then you’re not getting all you can from your email images, and this guide will help you.
But it’s not quite that simple. Having email images can boost your email’s aesthetics, but how do you increase email click-through rates with images?
What Is a Good Email Click-Through Rate?
Your click-through rate is the percentage of people who click on an image, link, or video in your email to continue through to your content. The average click-through rate is around 2.5% across all industries.
This number might sound a little low, but keep in mind, we’re talking about click-through and not open rates, which is the number of people who read your email.
youtube
Including images in your campaigns is a great way to increase engagement and improve your chances of driving traffic or even sales.
Images in Email Marketing: The Magic Ratio
Many marketers will tell you there’s a specific magic ratio of image to text, but it’s not always true. What is true is image-only emails will almost always cost you a trip to the spam folder.
Do that too much, and you’ll find your whole domain blacklisted.
That’s no good.
The ideal ratio is around 30-40% image to text. Any higher, you run the risk of triggering spam filters. Any less will make your email difficult to read.
The only way to find out what works for your audience is to test it! Use A/B testing to figure out what works and what doesn’t.
Keep Your Email Images Consistent
How many times have you searched for something on Google, found what you wanted, and clicked through to the website only to realize the link didn’t lead where you expected — at all?
It’s frustrating.
The truth is, you might be doing this to people right now without even realizing it.
Your email image needs to align with your brand and remain consistent throughout your marketing campaign.
Make sure when someone decides to open your email, it remains true to your company message, and all the emails look relatively similar.
If you’re using blue headers with a specific font in your campaign, it should match the landing page your visitor ends on.
Personalization and Targeting Are Key
Email personalization is more important than ever.
Why?
Because there’s more impersonal spammy communication out there than ever before. Personalization changes the way your email appears based on the person you’re targeting.
Just think about it. How often have you received an email that seems like it was made for you?
Not often, right?
This is where you can get ahead of your competition by doing the things no one else is willing to do.
No product or service has “universal appeal,” so you need to narrow down your email images to a targeted audience.
According to Invesp, 59% of online shoppers find products more interesting when you personalize your marketing approach.
So, how do you personalize your email images?
Cater to Repeat Buyers
Find products people need to purchase regularly and appeal to people who bought in the past. Amazon uses this strategy, resulting in 60% conversions from their on-site recommendations.
Here’s an example from Wayfair that was based on browsing history:
Recommend New Products
Recommend products to customers based on their previous buying history. Go the extra mile and even call it “Selections for [insert name].” That strategy helps create an “in-store experience” for your subscribers.
It’s as if you went to the clothing rack and specifically picked out items you thought would look great on them!
Ask Questions
If you’re selling a service or a digital subscription, you can ask your subscribers why they haven’t made a purchase yet. Give them a chance to sound off on what’s holding them back.
Doing this not only helps the email feel more personal and intimate, but it allows you to get feedback on what you could do better.
The ALT Tag Is More Important than You Think
We all know the importance of ALT tags for website images, but what about images in email marketing?
Are you currently using ALT tags properly in your email campaigns?
When the email client doesn’t download images correctly, your ALT tag becomes your lifeline for a few big reasons:
When the email client doesn’t download the image, the ALT text displays to the email recipient.
ALT text provides context if images aren’t loading.
ALT tags make it easier for those who use screen readers and other accessible technology to understand the image.
When all else fails, the ALT tag might be the thing getting the email recipient to open.
How to Create ALT Tags for Emails?
On the back end, an ALT tag looks like this:
<img src=”youremailimage.jpg” border=”0″ alt=”How to Use Email Images in Email Marketing” width=”482px” height=”205″ />
Where it says “alt=” is where your ALT text goes. So, if an email image doesn’t load properly, that’s what will display across the email text area instead of the image.
The process of adding it might vary based on what email client you use. Here’s how to add ALT tags on MailChimp, for example.
Use the Best Format for Email Images
You have three primary formatting options for your email image. PNGs, JPEGs, and GIFs are the most common choices. Let’s look at the pros and cons of each.
PNG
Portable Network Graphics offer a large color palette, which means compressing the file size doesn’t impact the image’s resolution.
Another benefit is that you can add transparent layers, making it easy to embed the image on top of other content. This lets you blend the background image into an email with live text.
The only downside to PNGs is the file size is much larger compared to JPEGs and GIFs because of the image quality.
JPEG
JPEGs offer large image compression, but doing so impacts the quality of your image. When you reduce a JPEG image, it groups each section into larger blocks, which causes the image to become blurry — which isn’t a good look.
While these are the most common image types, I wouldn’t recommend using them for email images.
GIF
You get less color vibrance with GIFs because they use an 8-bit color palette compared to a 24-bit palette with PNGs and JPEGs.
The obvious difference is the animation effect. Using GIFs in your emails increases interactivity and can allow you to show more than one product with the same image.
How to Find the Best Email Images
Finding the right images to get your email message across is crucial. There’s a variety of different types of images you can use, and each has its own purpose. Let’s look at a few.
Charts and Graphs
Providing statistics and data is almost useless without a graphic to back it up. When you provide charts in your email to prove a point, it makes it much easier for the recipient to grasp your message.
Inside’s business newsletter has a Series A funding tracker where you can see what startups recently got funding above $5m:
This easily shows at a glance who got the largest amount of funding, by size and color.
Piktochart is an infographic tool that makes it easy to create free charts (with a watermark). Just enter the data and select the type of chart you want.
Stock Photos
Stock images are the easiest way to add images to your email marketing campaign. There’s a large assortment of sites to choose from like Shutterstock, Depositphotos, and Pixabay.
When sourcing the best image, choose something relatable to your audience. If you’re targeting middle-age moms of toddlers, find images that appeal to your demographic.
Don’t just add images to add images — make sure they have a purpose.
Screenshots
Instead of using a numbered list to explain how something works, turn the process into beautiful imagery with screenshots.
Awesome Screenshot is a browser extension on Chrome, Safari, and Firefox that makes it easy to capture screenshots directly from the browser. You can capture a whole page or a part and download it to your computer.
Personal Photos
Keeping it real and making things personal is never a bad choice. Email marketing is all about pulling back the curtain and showing people what you’re all about.
You don’t need professional photos to make sales, and the realistic and pure nature of personal photos can be what you need.
Illustrated Content
Illustrations are a nice way to expand your possibilities. While you might be able to do a certain amount of things with a product, an illustration can display limitless options while staying true to your brand.
Here’s an example from comedian Nate Bargatze announcing a drive-in tour. After this image, his email contained a text call-to-action with more information.
Consider hiring an illustrator on Fiverr or Upwork to get affordable illustrations.
User-Generated Content
User-generated content is huge. In fact, 76% of customers trust content coming from “average” people versus the brand itself.
UGC helps create trust, and it offers authority from a relatable audience. For example, imagine how an image of someone using your product in their home would outperform a stock photo or a cartoon using it.
Offer rewards to happy customers by having them upload images to social media using specific hashtags and use those images in your email marketing campaigns.
Never Send Image-Only Emails
While images are important – you should never send an image-only email.
Here’s why:
Image Blocking Is Real
If you work in the corporate world, you understand this point. Many companies block images by default, and in fact, 43% of email users have their images turned off.
So, if you don’t have your ALT text game up to par, your campaign won’t load properly.
Email Image File Size
Email image sizes can cause subscribers with slow connections to lag and become unresponsive. If your email takes too long to load, your subscribers are going to click out or even unsubscribe because they can’t get your emails to open correctly.
Email Accessibility Is Changing
More people are using voice assistants to read emails, and these do not recognize ALT text or HTML yet. So, if the user is trying to read your image-only email, you’re out of luck.
So, what’s the ideal email image format?
Background Images with Live Text
Remember earlier, when we talked about the pros of using PNG files for your email images? Here’s where this all comes together.
Background images applied as an element to the email allow you to put live text over it, providing the most accessibility. Even if the subscriber has images disabled, they’ll see the text, which ensures all your subscribers will get something from the email.
Bulletproof Buttons
Including your CTA in your image is a fatal error. If the image is blocked or doesn’t load properly, the button or CTA you have is hidden and completely missed by the recipient.
Using bulletproof buttons allows you to build the button with code, rather than images. So if everything fails and your image doesn’t load, the subscriber will still receive your text and CTA.
Conclusion
Email images are an effective strategy to increase your email campaigns’ success, but you can’t take shortcuts.
Using the right image size, format, and design is critical to ensuring your emails get delivered and get results.
Follow all of the best and worst practices outlined in this guide, and you’ll be well on your way to a higher click-through rate and a repeatable email process that will drive traffic for years to come.

Grammarly
Nothing undermines your work more than sloppy writing, grammatical errors, and ever inevitable typos. And let’s face it, none of us trust autocorrect anymore — if anyone ever did. Working hard on a paper or a report, only to lose points on grammar and punctuation is infuriating for students. Even if you have the linguistic knowledge, having the time to revise every word is not always a luxury you can afford. Grammarly is an ingenious add-on that lifts a huge burden off your shoulders. It is your best friend for any form of written communication. Grammarly checks your spelling, grammar, and punctuation. It gives you suggestions and edits to better your text. It also measures how engaging, clear, and correct your writing is. Premium features cover an even wider scope of errors including a check for plagiarism. Professional communication, be it; emails, papers, reports, or even dissertations, has never been smoother.
Elementor
When it comes to building a website or starting a blog, the design is a serious concern. Not everyone has the talent, discipline, and knowledge needed for designing a website. WordPress is open-source software that allows you to easily design beautiful web pages, websites, blogs, apps, and much more in simple and user-friendly steps. There are many useful plugins for WordPress, but as far as visual page-builders go, Elementor is at the top of the list. It gives you the chance to build your page on your own, for free. You get to choose from various templates and styles and customize it to your liking. It’s fast, efficient, and, best of all, your page carries your own identity, not a generic design a million others are using.

TabWrangler
Imagine this: 37 tabs open, 10 are hanging, and it takes you 4 minutes to find the tab with your email. That article on global warming has been sitting in your inbox, marked unread, for the past two weeks. An ad is playing on one of the tabs. You’re stressed and want that ad to shut up, already. What if you close the tabs and can’t find them later? And which tab is that music coming from?
Does this scenario sound familiar? TabWrangler could help out with this tab addiction. It automatically closes tabs that you have not used recently but allows you to go back to them easily. You can also pin some tabs that you want to keep open. Your RAM will thank you for it.

If you have ever written an academic paper, you know that the most daunting part is citations. You get confused with the different styles, you constantly lose your sources, and it is practically impossible to cite while writing, and even more impossible to find your sources afterward. The amount of time, energy, and eye-gouging desperation exerted in citing sources can now be reduced to printed media, because Cite This! can take care of the rest for you. If the source is online, Cite This!, one of Firefox’s most celebrated add-ons, generates the citation for you in MLA, AMA, APA, and BibTex-style formats. This way you can cite every source you encounter with speed and efficiency.
These four add-ons cover a wide base and getting to use them could definitely help free up some space on and run your computer with more efficiency and ease. While we see these at the top of the list, there are definitely other serious contenders out there. How important and useful they all are, depends on how much they cater to your individual needs. The number of smart, useful add-ons is always on the rise. New ideas surface every day to provide solutions for problems we may not even know we had. Some are free, others you have to pay for, but it is good to know that there is a remedy for your online troubles somewhere on the web, you just haven’t looked hard enough yet.

🗓 Events
Most, if not all, of the in-person events that we typically list here are now understandably cancelled or postponed until further notice due to the global COVID-19 outbreak.
Because of this, more events are now looking at ways to run online. In the coming weeks, we're looking to devote this section to digital events, virtual conferences, livestreams, and similar online gatherings. Please do drop us a note (just hit reply) if you have such an event that we can promote here. Even if you're doing a single scheduled talk on Twitch or YouTube Live, say, we might be able to list it.

Checkout our new post over at https://lichlair.com/roll20-enhancement-suite
Roll20 Enhancement Suite
Oof, it’s been a while since I’ve gotten to write anything other than our Daily Monster series, but this has been an article that has been on my list of things to write about for quite some time. A couple of months ago we covered roll20 and the reasons why it might just be the best thing for those of us on weird time zones or working odd hours. Hopefully by now you will all have had the chance to give it a spin on our own, but if not, do go check out our article over here.
Finished reading that one? Excellent. Allow me to introduce you to the next step up for your roll20 experience: the Roll20 Enhancement Suite, or R20ES.
What it is…
As described on their website, r20es is a “quality of life and workflow extension”, which is a fancy way of saying that a browser add-on made to facilitate and enhance everyday usage roll20’s virtual tabletop (VTT).
By installing this browser extension you’ll gain access to a good dozen or so incredibly handy tools that will make you wonder how you could have used r20 without them at all. Trust me, I’ve been using r20es for a few months now and just last weekend I found myself having to DM without it, and let me tell you… it was terrible going back to the regular VTT.
The great thing about it too is that you are able to pick and choose from which tools and setting you want to active. It is fully customizable and comes with plenty sliders and check boxes for you to test out.
Although not affiliated with Roll20, it is an open source project that welcomes anyone to take a look at its code. If you’d be interested in checking out some lines, you can head over to GitHub and do so.
What it does…
Alright, this is a long list but here are some of my personal highlights:
-Disable drawing: Ever had a player vandalize your map while waiting for their turn? Maybe took a bathroom break and came back to a landing page full of dicks? Well, never again! This option disables the drawing/text tools for any players that might be abusing their powers.
–Adjustable opacity: not only can you adjust the opacity of your GM layers, but can adjust the opacities of any and all windows and character sheets you have open!
It’s so beautiful :’)
–Display current layer: I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve forgotten on which layer I am or struggled to find where on earth I put a specific token, but not anymore!
-Better token statuses and token menu: It’s so neat and clean and you can even choose between a standard and a compact version.
-Alternative Page toolbar: Actually just sooooo much better and easier to use it makes me wonder how this guy hasn’t been hired by roll20.
Goodbye scrolling for 5 solid minutes!
–Auto Initiative tracker sorter: Never sort initiative again!
-Bulk macros: Roll initiative for all your 10 different types of goblin with a single click.
-Animated maps: YEAH. THEY MOVE. THERE’S SOUND AND EVERYTHING. Don’t believe me??? Look at this:
…anyway. Before I lose my cool again, just know that this add-on comes loaded with many, many other useful tools that will save you sooo much time and make your roll20 experience a lot better.
How to get it…
If you’ve decided to at least give it a try, which I highly recommend, you can head over to their website and follow the instructions there. As of right now r20es is only available on Chrome and Firefox, but who know what the future holds.
As a heads up, although the Firefox installation is extremely quick and easy, getting r20es on Chromes does take a couple of steps. Just to make sure all was well before writing this article, I did test it on both Firefox and Chrome and can say that it still runs smoothly regardless of which browser you choose play on.
If you enjoyed this article and found R20ES to your liking, consider following us on our social media to never miss out on our articles. We post new content every day!

Advance Blogger SEO https://www.reddit.com/r/SEO/comments/bywqz8/advance_blogger_seo/
Advance Blogger SEO
Blogger is a free blogging platform provided by Google. If you want to start your blogging career, you can go with Google Blogger. We all know that before starting a website we have to buy a domain name and a hosting but you don’t have to buy any domain and hosting if you are using Blogger YES! you don’t have to buy a domain and hosting, Google Blogger provide you a free subdomain like domain.blogspot.com and free hosting for life time with unlimited bandwidth means it can easily handle unlimited traffic, it also has unlimited disk space with a free SSL certificate. If you don’t want a subdomain, you can use a custom domain name also. You just have to buy a domain name from any domain name registrar like Godaddy then change the name server of the domain and use the name server provided by Blogger. And you are all set to go8-) .
On-Page SEO
Topic Selection
For a successful article, you need to select a good topic and to find a good topic you have to do keyword research. There are some free tools that will help you in your successful keyword research like Google Keyword Planner, Ubersuggest, Keywords Every Where,KeywordTool.io, Kwfinder. In this blog I am using keywordseverywhere and ubersuggest but you can so with any of them mentioned above. They are all free to use, some of them are partially free.
Keywords Everywhere
This is a browser extension which can be downloaded from a chrome web store or Firefox add on. After installing the extension create a free account on keyword everywhere then its fully ready to run. Then you just have to search a keyword on your search engine it will automatically suggest the search volume, competition & CPC ( cost per click)and at the right side, it will also provide you some suggested keyword. And at the bottom of the result page where google suggest keyword shows it also shows search volume, CPC and Competition.
Ubersuggest
It is a free tool, it is not only a keyword research tool but also a full SEO tool. This tool is made by Neil Patel he is a Digital Marketer, Entrepreneur. In this tool you just have to put your desire keyword and select your region where you want to rank, Then click the search button, it will suggest you relevant keyword with search volume, CPC, Competition. And at the right side, it will show you the SERP view of google with Monthly view, Domain score,, Social share& Number of backlinks.
After finding the right keyword then you have to check whether the keyword you are looking to rank is in trend or not, you can check that using a free tool Google Trends. And you also have to find some LSI (Latent semantic indexing)for your body of the article & subheading of the article, you can use Google search for LSI or use a free tool name LSI Graph.
You have your Focus Keyword, LSI now, you just have to write an in-depth article on your topic. Because Google loves long in-depth content and in-depth content ranks higher than an ordinary article on Google.
Content Analysis
You have your content ready. Now you have to check your spelling mistake, Google doesn’t rank article which has spelling mistake or grammatical error. Because Google thinks that the article is not written by an expert that’s why its a key ranking factor that’s many people ignore. Fortunately, there is a free tool which can do both of them check spellings and grammatical mistake. This free tool is Grammarly. You just have to install Grammarly extension on your browser then sign-up with your Facebook or Google account, then copy your content and paste it on Grammarly, it will automatically detect the problems and suggest you the solution.
Structure Analysis
If you want to rank higher on google then you must have a good Dwell time.
What is dwell time?
⇒Dwell time is the duration between when a user clicks on a search engine result, and when the user returns from that result or is otherwise seen to have left the result.
To maintain a good dwell time you have to optimize your article structure like Headline, Title, Media, and Body.
Title
Title of an article is the window to an article, so you have to make your title more appealing so that people click on them and your CTR (Click Through Rate) increases. Put your main keyword at the beginning of the title for better user experience.
Headline
The headline is one of the most important factors in the SEO checklist. You have to put your Focus keyword at the beginning of your headline then make the headline colorful, use different fonts to make good eye-catching headline then set the alignment of the headline.
Media
If you want to rank then you have to add good quality media in your posts. Like Pictures, GIFs, Info-graphics or even Videos. Creating infographics is a good way to convey your message. Not just adding the media in your blog post will do the work for you, you also have to optimize them. Firstly, you have to compress the images and info-graphics to increase your site speed. you can use image compressor to compress the images. Then you have to add the image title and image alt tag. Use keyword on image title and alt tag. Now your media files are fully optimized.
Body
Body of a blog is the main part, it contains the real content. So to optimize this body section you have to put LSI keywords in your body, put focus keywords on your article’s sub-headings and bold the related keyword(few once). Remember maintain a good keyword: content ratio, don’t use more than 10 keywords if your article has less than 1000 words because Google penalizes the websites that perform keyword stuffing. Google prefers user experience than any other thing, so to increase your UX you have to use the right font size that suits your article and use correct fonts size with appropriate colors to make your article more beautiful.
Off Page SEO
Back Links
Content
Search for shutdown and renamed businesses (no longer available) replace the off-link to your link that is a backlink to other sites, replace those backlinks.Look for popular content and try to create some thing better than it and then promote it. Use tools like ahref , or use free tools like Ubersuggest to find the website who already li8nk back to your competitors, try to contact them and tell them that you have a better content like the content they already had link to their site, tell them to check your one also if they like it then then they can link back to your site.
Media
Media is a good way to get high-quality backlinks. You can create good quality info-graphics and send them to different site owners if they like the info-graphic they can also use that on their site, just add a link at the credit section. Use PDF and upload them to a different website or create good quality GIFs and send them to different site owners you will get high-quality backlinks.
WEB 2.0
Social Book Markings
There is an easy way to get high-quality backlinks from different popular website like Quora, Reddit. Use these sites, create an account then answer the question asked by different users, if want wants you can add a link to your answers. You will also get a good amount of traffic also.
SEO Settings
Post SEO
There are some useful settings that you should perform before publishing any post.
1.Set lebels
2.set up a permalink, use keyword in your permalink
3.Write a eye catching search description and use keywords to rank on google.

Grammarly Review: Is it the Best Grammar Checker in 2020?
So reading a Grammarly review is now a priority after that embarrassment.
The one that made you realize “yeah, getting a grammar checker might be a good idea.”
You reviewed your email carefully.
Then you hit send.
And only then did you see it. The error your eyes skimmed right by. Buried in the middle of your text, you missed it, but now it flashes out at you, and it is all you can see.
Grammarly (affiliate link) could prevent the pain of those mistakes.
It’s the secret weapon smart writers use every single day to make their writing error-free, polished, and clean as a whistle.
Let’s jump in and learn more.
What is Grammarly (and How Does it Work)?
Grammarly is an “AI-powered writing assistant” that helps you improve your writing.
It goes well beyond a basic spell checker. It uses the latest in artificial intelligence to apply English language conventions and grammar rules to your work.
Grammarly proofreads your beautiful words and alerts you to errors that can detract from your message.
As you type, Grammarly provides real-time feedback, informing you of mistakes, and makes suggestions to fix them. You can quickly correct issues as you create your messages.
The best part of this?
Grammarly gives you an explanation of the reasons behind the correction. This allows you to learn from your grammar errors, so you stop making them.
Simply click on the three-dot ellipse to reveal the explanation:
This explanation can be invaluable. And if you need to brush up on your grammar skills, Grammarly provides a handbook of grammar rules for easy reference.
In each case, you make the decision whether or not to accept the correction. You remain in control of your writing.
True, Grammarly can’t replace a human proofreader, but it will catch a wide range of mistakes and errors. It isn’t perfect, so you always want to use your own judgment and think through the suggestions. Don’t blindly accept them.
Where Can I Use Grammarly?
Grammarly works almost everywhere you do — you can use it on your computer or your mobile devices. Whether you want to text, post on Facebook, tweet, comment on blogs, or write a blog post, it can be there for you.
To do this, Grammarly is available as both an app and as a browser extension in Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and Internet Explorer.
Here are a few of the platforms it works on:
Email (Gmail, Outlook)
Documents & Projects (Google Docs, Microsoft Word, Slack, Salesforce)
Social media posts (Facebook, Medium, Twitter, LinkedIn)
Websites (including backend web pages in WordPress)
So How much Does it Cost to Use Grammarly?
The free version of Grammarly won’t cost you a penny. It’s completely free.
But if you need more features, here are the prices for Grammarly Premium (as of this writing):
A monthly subscription is $29.95 per month
A quarterly subscription is $19.98 per month (billed as one payment of $59.95)
An annual subscription is $11.66 per month (billed as one payment of $139.95)
Is the premium version of Grammarly worth the upgrade?
Let’s take a look…
What are the Differences Between Grammarly Premium and the Free Version?
The free version of Grammarly offers corrections for spelling errors and basic grammar mistakes. It does a great job of preventing typos.
The premium version offers advanced writing feedback.
It watches for advanced grammar mistakes and contextual spelling errors. It also suggests improvements in sentence structure, word choice, and style.
Overall, the free version is okay for casual writing. But for longer-form or professional content that you need to be its absolute best, you’ll want to consider Grammarly Premium.
Here’s Grammarly’s side-by-side comparison:
Let’s go over the extra features you get with Grammarly Premium:
Advanced Grammar and Punctuation Checks
The premium version offers additional grammar and punctuation functionality. A few examples are:
Punctuation errors such as either missing or unnecessary commas, or comma splices.
Sentence structure issues like missing verbs, incorrect adverb placement, or faulty parallelism.
Style errors, for example, using the passive voice, or colloquial phrases in a formal document.
Grammarly Premium says it runs 400+ checks on your writing!
“Readability” (Or, What Are You Trying To Tell Me?)
Readability is the difference between a reader enjoying your writing or quitting in frustration.
A high readability score means a piece of writing is easier for a reader to understand — the higher the score, the easier it is to read. It’s important because you don’t want to exhaust your reader with lengthy sentences and lots of complex words.
Grammarly uses the Flesch reading-ease test to measure readability. For most writing, you want to aim for a score of 60 or higher. This means that people with at least an eighth-grade education would find it easy to read.
Grammarly provides a handy report to provide this readability score along with your average word and sentence length.
To help you improve the numbers on this report, the premium version of Grammarly will flag overly long sentences. It will also suggest simpler words where appropriate.
“Vocabulary Enhancement Suggestions” (Or, Improve Your Vocabulary)
Grammarly Premium will offer you alternatives for either overused words or weak adjectives.
It will alert you if you use a particular word over and over again, and it will offer substitutions to keep your writing engaging.
If you use a weak adjective like “fine,” it will suggest you replace it with something more dynamic.
“Genre-specific Writing Style Checks” (Or, Set Writing Goals)
Are you looking for an inexpensive writing coach? Then use Grammarly Premium to get “tailored writing suggestions based on your goals and audience.”
Here are some of the goals you can set for each piece of writing:
Audience (General, Knowledgeable, or Expert)
You want to write for the level of your audience, and you can set this goal to reflect that.
For example, for a general audience, anyone should be able to read your work. At the expert level, you can use longer sentences and words (like medical or technical terms).
Formality (Informal, Neutral, or Formal)
As an example, in blog writing, you can begin sentences with a preposition. But if you are writing a paper for a more formal audience, you’ll want to use by-the-book grammar rules. This allows you to toggle between sets of grammar rules.
Domain (Academic, Business, General, Technical, Casual, or Creative)
The domain you select will have to match the options in Formality. For example, if you choose Academic, the Informal option is unavailable.
The next two goals for Tone and Intent are experimental but fun to use:
Plagiarism Checker
One of the main benefits of Grammarly Premium? There are unlimited plagiarism checks. You can check your text as obsessively as you’d like, no extra charge.
If you read a lot and have a decent memory, you are in danger of accidental plagiarism. You may write what you believe to be an original thought, but nope, it isn’t. Using a plagiarism checker is vital!
You might inadvertently plagiarize by copying and pasting research text into your document, intending to label it properly later. Then the doorbell or phone rings. Life happens.
You come back to your writing and use the snippets of text, forgetting that it isn’t yours and failing to give credit to its creators. A giant oops.
One precaution is to never copy and paste research text into your final document. Always keep it separate and clearly labeled.
If you want to create a citation for a chunk of text, Grammarly provides the options to cite it using either MLA, APA, or Chicago Manual of Style.
Select the convention you want to use, and it will generate the citation for you and add it to your document.
Grammarly also provides links to the appropriate citation generator website if it can’t automatically generate a citation on its own.
In short:
Before you hit publish or submit a new document to your editor, you should run a plagiarism detector to verify your text is truly original.
And Grammarly Premium makes this possible.
Vital Feedback To Improve Your Writing
The best reason for paying for Grammarly Premium is it helps you to become a better writer by telling you why it is flagging an error. It gives you the reasons for your mistakes so you can learn and improve your writing skills.
You cannot become a better writer without feedback.
For example:
Click the three dots on the correction card to learn more about why this is being flagged as an error, and you’ll see this:
I was the queen of forgetting the Oxford comma, a grammar convention that can help prevent ambiguity. After months of fixing it, guess what, I finally have it drilled into my head to use it!
If you pay attention to the reasons for your errors, over time, both your grammar and your writing ability will improve.
Again, always use your judgment. Look things up if something doesn’t look or sound correct. Use this as a learning tool, but remember there is no replacement for brushing up on your grammar.
Which Grammar Checker is the Best?
There are numerous grammar checker options out there for writers — Gingerly, Hemingway, After the Deadline, WhiteSmoke, LanguageTool, and ProWritingAid among them.
Here are a few reasons we believe Grammarly is the best:
Grammarly is Fast and Accurate
Grammarly can process large amounts of text quickly and accurately. For example, it took only a few seconds to run through a 7,000-word post.
It is also known for catching the highest quantity of errors compared to its competitors.
Grammarly is Super Easy To Use
Grammarly reduces the friction in using grammar checking software by making it as easy and as accessible as possible.
Take a minute or so to install the browser extension, and you are off and running. Almost everywhere you communicate on the web, Grammarly will help you keep your writing mistake-free.
If you create longer text for review, no problem. Log in to use the Grammarly Editor online or download the app to your desktop. Then you have the option to either copy and paste your text or upload it.
Grammarly has a clean, intuitive interface. No need for tutorials, or to waste time learning software. If you have any questions, there are helpful onscreen question marks to click for pop-up answers.
Grammarly is Available in Multiple Formats
Grammarly allows you to work on the web, on your desktop, or on your mobile devices. Here’s a list of the formats:
Grammarly Editor is available as a web-based tool. Log into the grammarly.com website and you’re ready to edit.
Grammarly’s Web Browser extension (Chrome extension, Safari, Firefox, and Edge). Download the Grammarly extension and use Grammarly on your favorite websites.
Grammarly’s app for desktops is available for either Windows or Mac. It’s one click to access, and you can either upload or copy and paste a document to check it. Grammarly add-in for Microsoft Office on Windows. This add-in allows you to use Grammarly while working with Microsoft Word & Outlook. This plug-in is for PCs only, it isn’t currently available for Mac.
Grammarly Keyboard for iOS or Android. Download this app to check your writing on mobile devices.
With a variety of options, you can bring Grammarly’s helpful algorithms with you wherever you write.
Grammarly is Customizable
Being able to customize your writing goals for the type of writing you are doing is a powerful feature.
Grammarly allows you to apply the right set of grammar rules according to the kind of work you are doing. Example: casual writing, which allows the bending of rules not acceptable in formal writing.
Grammarly also gives you a custom dictionary. If your writing contains brand names, jargon, or abbreviations, you can add them to your personal dictionary. This eliminates constant flags for incorrect spelling.
This is a useful feature, but before you add a word to the dictionary, double-check your reasoning. Adding slang or jargon that works with one piece of writing might not be a good idea to add to your dictionary.
Why?
Because then it’s ignored when you work on something a bit more formal.
Grammarly also allows you to customize your English Language preference. It distinguishes between American English, British English, Canadian English, and Australian English.
You don’t want to be told to change the spelling of colour to color if you are writing in British English, right?
Grammarly: Frequently Asked Questions
Is Grammarly Premium Worth It?
If your grammar skills are solid and you keep spelling mistakes to a minimum, the free version of Grammarly could be all you need.
But if your skills are lacking, or if you’re a professional or student whose livelihood depends on written communication, Grammarly Premium is well worth it because it’ll catch mistakes that could damage your credibility (or torpedo your test scores).
Is it Safe to Use Grammarly?
Yes, but it depends on how comfortable you are with your information being transmitted online. According to its privacy policy, Grammarly transmits your writing to its online servers. Your text is stored on those servers while Grammarly runs its AI magic on it.
Similar to the precautions you’d take with email, you should be cautious of highly confidential or sensitive documents. Grammarly has many safeguards in place to protect your data, but no company (whether it’s Grammarly or Google) can promise 100% security.
So if you are an employee, you may want to check with your IT department for your company’s data management policies.
And if you are writing something deeply personal and private, you probably don’t want that anywhere near the internet anyway.
In fact, go analog and write it on paper. Then shred it for the ultimate privacy.
Who Should Use Grammarly?
You don’t need to be a professional writer who is paid to write to use Grammarly — anyone who uses the written word to communicate could benefit from it.
After all, if your message contains glaring errors, it’s hard to focus on the message and not the errors, which detract from the message you are trying to get across.
Grammarly is especially beneficial for writers judged on the quality of their written work, such as:
Bloggers
Content Marketers
Copywriters
Authors
Students
Business people who write emails or reports or create presentations.
Is There Anything Better Than Grammarly?
Possibly. It depends on your needs and your situation.
Here are a few Grammarly competitors that provide better options for some users:
ProWritingAid
ProWritingAid is probably the best Grammarly alternative. It is a solid grammar checker with similar features.
It offers in-depth feedback on your writing style by providing over 20 different writing reports. As an example, one of the reports will flag cliches in your writing.
ProWritingAid may be a better choice for fiction writers as it offers reports such as pacing checks for your fiction story.
If you use Scrivener as your primary writing tool, ProWritingAid provides Scrivener integration. You can still use Scrivener with Grammarly, but you will need to copy and paste your text into Grammarly’s app.
ProWritingAid may be a better choice for budget-constrained writers. It costs $70 per year (there are discounts on multi-year licenses), and for an additional $10 per year, you get 50 Plagiarism checks.
Ginger
This online grammar checker may be a better choice if you write in a language other than English. It can translate text between 60 different languages.
The interface is not as easy to use as Grammarly, and it offers fewer features. However, at $89.88 for a yearly subscription, it can work for budget-minded writers.
Hemingway App
The Hemingway App is not a replacement for Grammarly, but it is a useful complement to it. The online version is free, and the desktop app is $19.95 if you’d prefer to work offline (or support the developers).
The goal of this app is to have you write, well, like Hemingway. It provides feedback to help you keep your writing simple and easy to read.
It does this by flagging sentences that are either “hard to read” or “very hard to read.” However, the edits are up to you — it doesn’t provide suggestions to fix the complex sentence structure.
The Hemingway App also flags the use of the passive voice and the use of more than three adverbs in a piece of work. It will alert you to complex phrases and provide a few recommendations for alternatives.
Again, you want to use your own judgment when considering edits. Stay true to your own writing style, as long as it is clear and easy to read.
Does Grammarly Work With Word?
Yes, Grammarly works with Microsoft Word. There is an add-in you can download to your computer (Windows only). Once installed, you can click the Grammarly button on the Home tab, and a Grammarly sidebar will appear.
The sidebar allows you to choose which checks you want to run on your MS Word document.
Once enabled, Grammarly checks for errors and suggests fixes.
Does Grammarly Work In Google Docs?
Yes, Grammarly works in Google Docs, but as a beta version only.
Even with the Grammarly Premium upgrade, the Google Docs version is limited. For example, it will flag mistakes and provide suggestions for corrections, but it doesn’t give you the reasons for your errors. It’s also missing the suggestions to improve Clarity, Engagement, and Delivery that’s included with the premium version.
It also doesn’t pick up the same amount of “Correctness” errors in Google Docs that it will when you copy and paste the same text to the Grammarly app.
As a workaround, you can make changes to the grammatical errors that are flagged to keep your document as clean as possible. But then you’ll want to copy and paste your work into the web or desktop app to make your final sweep for errors and improvements.
Is Grammarly Really Worth It?
Now that you’ve read this in-depth review of Grammarly, you know the answer.
The free version of Grammarly cleans up typos and prevents embarrassing mistakes. If you are a casual writer who writes mainly for fun, the free version may be enough for you. And for anyone who takes their writing seriously, the premium version is a solid investment.
Grammarly doesn’t replace professional proofreaders. Human proofreaders will catch more than Grammarly can and will pick up contextual errors that Grammarly may miss.
Is Grammarly worth it?
Yes.
Grammarly can clean up and improve your writing so that when you hand it over to a human editor to proofread, it will require a lot less work. And less work for them means it will cost you less.
If you do your own proofreading and editing, the Grammarly Premium plan offers a valuable writing assistant. It helps you keep your writing clear, engaging, and easy to read.
If you aren’t sure about the premium version, try Grammarly for free (affiliate link) first to see how you like it.

productivity tools podcast
Speaker 1: All right. I am so excited for you all to listen to this episode of Forward Thinking Founders. Before we get started, I just wanted to let you know that we are officially starting an email list, as we have some big plans for the podcast and we'll be telling people on the email list first and probably only the people on the email list. So feel free to sign up and get on the email list at f20r.com. That's F as in Frank, two, zero, R as in red, .com, and I'll see you over there.
Speaker 1: All right. How is it going, everyone? Welcome to another episode of Forward Thinking Founders, where we're talking to founders about their companies, their visions for the future and how to collide. Today, I am very excited to be talking to John Xie, who is the CEO and co-founder of Taskade. John, welcome to the show.
John Xie: Yeah, thank you. Great to be here.
Speaker 1: Yeah, great to have you on. Let's just get right into it. For people that don't know, can you explain what Taskade is?
John Xie: Yeah, sure. So, we built this really crazy tool and it's a combination of many things in one, but ultimately, the vision has been to create a unified workspace for remote and distributed teams. And with Taskade, we made it very simple for teams to chat and video conference with one another, manage tasks and projects, but also write product specs and documents, all with one simple and elegant tool.
John Xie: And I think one part that's really beautiful about Taskade is that it's not only designed for real-time collaboration, it's also asynchronous. So it can work across with different teams on different time zones. And the app right now today is available on almost every platform imaginable, from web, to desktop, to iOS and Android, to even having a Firefox and Chrome extension.
Speaker 1: Holy smokes. We'll have to go into that in a second, after we dive into some of the features and whatnot. But, oh wow, every platform. That's awesome.
Speaker 1: All right, so let's stay on the product for now. So, can you go into some of the kind of some... I know you have tons of features because I've used Taskade, but can you go into some of your favorite features and the ways that teams can get benefit out of them on Taskade?
John Xie: Yeah, sure. So I think the key components of Taskade is the fact that you have the task management portion and then you also have the communication aspect of it. The projects on Taskade are incredibly unique because it's almost like a piece of origami. You can create a task list and then you can transform it into a mind map with the same data structure. And then one of your teammates could collaborate with you on the same project but in a column view, and then he or she has to switch it back into a task list view.
John Xie: When we started this idea, the idea was to help visual thinkers and people that are like me, that are just crazy and cannot focus and concentrate, and have like a Schuyler brain, to be able to plan, organize and really focus on the big picture, but also really be able to drill down and think small and write things down and break it into tiny actionable steps.
John Xie: So Taskade really is like an outlining tool at its core, that is incredibly flexible, really real time, with a chat and communication element attached to it. That's basically a chat room next to your project.
Speaker 1: All right, so we're going to role play slightly, because I am not the most ... or I'm someone that definitely needs a tool in this category of organization and communication. And I'm kind of one of those people that scatterbrained a little bit. I have some papers over there, I have some stuff on Google docs, whatever.
Speaker 1: So, I am curious, for people like what you just mentioned that have a scatterbrain, let's say they're founders, become a founder. What would be your advice or tips on what to do on Taskade first? What to add in first? How to get the most out of it in the beginning, then how to ramp up? I'm curious if you were just giving me advice as a potential user.
John Xie: Yeah, sure. So I think one thing that we really encourage new users and new teams to do is that you start off with one of our existing templates, right? And then from there on, really try to get to learn some of the basic keyboard shortcuts, like tab and shift-tab to outdent and indent, and be able to collapse and un-collapse different sections within your document, within your task list. And of course, playing around with the different views and elements.
John Xie: It might sound incredibly complicated, but in reality, we really try our best to keep this product as simple and as elegant as possible, because we understand, having built and designed products for consumers in the past, that really the second you make things even two or three clicks away, no one will ever discover it.
