When Cole arrived in the courtyard with no warning, Kai wasn’t sure he had ever run faster.

Well, he was sure that he had run faster in stressful situations, but he hadn’t hugged Cole in so long; he was just glad that it felt the same, it felt warm and strong and safe. 

He didn’t want to let go, it had been years since he had seen him but he also knew that the same was true of Lloyd and Zane so he found himself letting go just a few moments later to let everyone else get their fill of hugs in.

Even Wyldfyre, who acted like a feral being towards everyone new and old, was even interested in Cole’s arrival to the point of asking multiple questions about the place Nya had said that she found him, The Land of Lost Things.

Kai didn’t miss the solemn, almost sad look on his face as he spoke about where he had ended up after The Merge. A look he hadn’t seen in years, not since Shintaro.

But the look faded when the subject was changed to Lloyd explaining how the Mergequakes were stopped and everything returned to the happy, bubbly energy that had filled the monastery since Kai had returned.

And as Cole came into his room hours later and laid on the mostly clean floor, Kai was baffled by how everything felt so close to normal, to how it had been after they had defeated the Crystal King.

All that was missing was Jay lounging in the bean bag chair in the corner and playing some sort of Sonic game, only responding to every third sentence and being thoroughly confused when they laughed at his lack of context.

“Has Lloyd started acting as stuffy as Master Wu yet?”

“Nah. He tried to keep the whole monastery in order and broke a bunch of plates in the process.”

“Anger issues?”

“Nah, they fell out of the sink,” Cole’s laugh was infectious and filled Kai’s chest to the point where it hurt long after it faded into giggles that punctured his next sentence, “he’s doing his best, but he’s still Lloyd.”

“That’s good, I think,” Cole mused before sitting up and looking directly into Kai’s eyes, “do you still make edibles and hide them under your bed?”

“Even if I did,” Kai started, smiling as the famous incident of everyone taking his brownies that were just meant for when the long nights got too long and resulting in him simultaneously getting banned from the kitchen unless there was his mother’s or one of Zane’s cookbooks involved came to mind, “there’s that dragon, Riyu. He’ll eat them and either be high off of his ass or vomit on my bed.”

“He’s eaten your edibles before?”

“He’s eaten so many things that he shouldn’t and for some reason, my bed has to be where he gets rid of it,” Kai corrected before laying back down, “do you still have that bottle of fireball in your room?”

“That shit has to be rancid by now, it was opened before the Merge,” Cole shook his head, also laying back down and staring at the ceiling, “I suppose I could always go and get more tomorrow though.”

“We’re a bit old to hide edibles and alcohol in our rooms, I think. Lloyd’s even old enough to drink now.”

“Remind me to take the kid to a bar and make sure he’s not taking straight shots of vodka.”

“Noted.” Kai agreed, even if the idea of Lloyd drinking forced him to slip into the protective role he was so used to when it came to the green ninja.

“Besides, even if Lloyd’s old enough to drink, Sora, Arin and the feral one, they’re still kids. Not to mention the dragon who pukes in your bed.”

“Her name is Wyldfyre, and that was actually way different for her, since she’s usually trying to light things on fire or prove she’s the best. She was raised by a dragon, manners aren’t exactly her thing.”

“She sounds a lot like you.”

“I wasn’t raised by a dragon.”

“No, you were raised by yourself, which might be worse.”

Kai threw a pillow at Cole’s face; the pillow he threw back knocked him onto the floor tailbone first.

“Ouch.”

“You good?”

“Yep, just a sore ass,” Kai confirmed as he maneuvered onto his back and laid next to Cole, the sounds of their breathing filling the silence, “Nya told us when she got back, about the Finders.”

“Yeah?”

“Yeah, the Formling and the Hypnobri kids, and the Munce and the Skulkin who are our age,” Kai could have sworn that he saw a blush spread across Cole’s face at the mention of the Munce, “do you wanna tell me about them?”

“Fritz, the Formling, reminds me a lot of Lloyd when he was a kid. Adventurous, kind and pokes his nose where it doesn’t belong. Spitz is much more reserved and shy, but loves playing with Fritz and gets himself into trouble a lot because of it. Bonzal…well, I’ve known her for years, but she isn’t very forthcoming. She’s got a great sense of humor though, crochets a lot of blankets and also collects bones.”

“Why?”

“Whenever you ask, she just says they’re extremely useful; but, she wouldn’t hurt a fly so I’m not worried about it.”

“Okay,” Kai nodded while trying to get back on topic, but when he asked “what about the Munce?” he was able to guess why Cole’s cheeks flushed at the mention even before he started speaking.

“Geo. He’s the elemental master of fusion, he turns lost things into these large art sculptures. He’s good with the boys, he makes sure that they’re always taken care of, no matter what. He’s the only one who can get Bonzal to say more than a few sentences. He’s so caring, and funny and…he might be one of the best things that’s ever happened to me.”

“He sounds great,” Kai agreed with a nod before asking, “so, why didn’t you bring them with you? Because the monastery is big-”

“It wasn’t a space issue. First Master, I wish it was a space issue,” Cole’s voice filling with tears made Kai’s heart pang with regret, “whenever they tried to leave, this fog would engulf them and lead them back. They had been forgotten for so long that they couldn’t leave. I only left because I thought I heard Master Wu…but it just led me here.”

Kai reached over and pulled Cole into a hug; he had needed the hug when he finally returned, but given how he tucked his head against his shoulder, he knew that it was Cole who needed a hug now.

They stayed like that until Cole finally spoke again, the sobs evident in his voice as he kept his face pressed against Kai’s shoulder.

“I…I miss them so much.”

“Hey,” Kai finally spoke and cupped a hand around Cole’s face to brush a few tears off of his cheeks, “we found Nya, we found Zane and we found you. We’ll get the others out of there and we’ll find Jay, PIXAL and Master Wu.”

“I know,” Cole agreed, taking in a shuddering breath while wiping his face on his sleeve, “it’s just really gonna suck until we do.”

Though- not entirely. He’ll mutter just loud enough for you to HEAR HIM, before asking you which mug you would prefer this evening.

Like Erik, he spies on you. What? He doesn’t have a job, he has very little to do during the day. So why not follow you to work and see what’s going on? He loves how you respond to other men flirting with you- just saying ‘thank you!’ all cheery and lovely, before swiftly walking off. He finds it so amusing, and very very cute.

Here’s the thing- Buckman is high energy. And he loves to dance with you at jubilees, pull you off to the side and twirl you. He’ll even dip you, if it’ll make you laugh. It might surprise you when he does it, too.

He’ll do a similar thing if he sees that you’re down. He’ll take your hand and lead you away carefully, like c’mon darlin just one dance… for me. Slowly he’ll guide you around and talk to you, making little jokes here and there, until you cheer up and give a laugh.

Oh- my- goodness, it stresses him out when you inevitably get along so well with Boone XDD Like- his ex-wife?? And his sweetheart??? What are they saying about me???? You stroke his ego quite a bit haha. He absolutely loves it when you call him ‘Mr Director’, all cheeky. Or just tell him you love him, or his movies are really good, or you missed him while he was at work. Or!! You saw this thing and thought of him??? Good god, are you trying to kill him??  

Stuarts not very touchy but he likes it when you initiate! Just snuggle in next to him when he’s editing or just drinking his morning coffee and lay a blanket out over you both cuz its chilly, or give him a kiss before work, or lay your head on his shoulder when you’re sleepy. He’ll feel loved and wanted and- again- lucky.

When you’re down he doesn’t really know what to do. He tries to make jokes but he’s not super great at them, all stuttery and second guessing himself. He’ll try to show you movies that have made you smile before, but it doesn’t really work. He asks who’s at fault for this (Maybe they could be in a future movie of his?? It’s going to be a gory one, for sure) but a lot of the time its not because of someone else. He’ll put on your favourite movies and make popcorn.

When something finally works he’s so relieved to have his sweet person back, and listens intently to whatever you say.

A Voice Gone With the Wind

It was another night in Ninjago City, and Lloyd was going to go to bed in peace.

It had been a week, but it was still hard to believe that Cole was no longer a ghost. Lloyd was really happy for his brother because he personally could not imagine watching all your friends grow old while you stay the same age forever. And not being able to touch water! That's torture!

Little did Lloyd know, tonight he was gonna learn what real torture was.

He entered the bathroom, and locked the door because he knew from unfortunate experience that someone was bound to open the door. He hadn't even made a move yet when the lights turned off. Okay, no big deal. As long as the Bounty's engine was still working everything would be just fine. And Lloyd couldn't hear any screams or feel himself descending so it was just a small problem. But as he couldn't see anything, he had to get out of the bathroom and use it when the power came back. He unlocked the door and tried to open it, but it wouldn't budge.

Okay. Just call someone. Lloyd opened his mouth to scream ‘HELLO?’ when someone gagged him with a cloth and handcuffed him with what was most likely vengestone. The blond turned around and was able to see his enemy as he was holding a lit matchstick. Morro. How…?

Lloyd made muffled noises when Morro spoke up. “If you make even the quietest noise, I'll punish you. I know what you're thinking. Let me explain.” He smirked. “Long story short, I became a human again by entering the rift before Cole did.”

He hung Lloyd to the pole that held the curtains for the bathtub. “Now I'm so sick of you. I never got to have my revenge for not letting me get my rightfully earned role as the Green Ninja! Speaking of which, I think you can handle a little pain… right?”

Before Lloyd could understand what he meant, a muffled scream came out of his mouth as he felt a knife digging through his skin. “Shut up!” Morro yelled. He dragged the knife through Lloyd's torso, but not enough to hit any vital organs. Lloyd screamed again. Morro grabbed him by the collar. “If you make one more noise, there will be consequences.”

He kept ripping Lloyd's skin with the knife, and the blond kept quiet this time, praying that Kai or anyone else would come in the bathroom and put an end to this. Or even better, this whole thing was a terrible nightmare.

Eyes closed, he felt the knife leave his skin, and that was when he started sobbing. He forgot about Morro for a blissful second. He felt a hand squeeze his neck. “What did I say about making noises?” Lloyd thought that would be the end. Morro would choke him to death. Instead, his fate was way worse.

He felt the cloth coming out of his mouth, but as he couldn't breathe anymore, he kept it open for vain attempts at gasping for breath. And that was a horrible mistake.

Morro forced the knife down his throat, and Lloyd had never felt more agonising pain in his life. He kept gagging out blood, knowing this would be the end. He tried kicking Morro, but he knew it was useless.

He then heard a familiar voice. “What's going on in there? Lloyd?” Morro pulled the knife out of his throat and jumped out of the window, to who knows where. Lloyd was hyperventilating now. He was coughing up blood.

He didn't notice Cole breaking the door open, or the scream for Wu to come immediately. What he did notice, however, was Kai at his side, rubbing his back, staring at his body with panicked eyes. Then it all went black.

Lloyd didn't really know what was going on. He could hear unfamiliar voices discussing “damage to larynx”, “rendered mute” and “trauma” He finally opened his eyes to see who was stroking his hair.

It was Kai, sitting by his bedside, in what looked like a hospital room.

“Hey, buddy.” He whispered. “I hope you're feeling better.”Lloyd tried to talk, but no noise came out.“Don't try to talk, Greenbean.” Lloyd already knew what had happened. “I'm sorry.”

Kai pulled Lloyd into a tight hug, letting the latter cry into his shoulder.

No noise came from Lloyd's sobs, however. There would never be any noise coming from him again.

It’s helped me dive into the backstory of my characters. It took me a month to reply because I was so determined to get the characters motivations and personalities just right. Zach Hightower

Zach approves of Lloyd and Princess’ relationship.

He just has a few concerns about Lloyd’s emotional stability. He knows for a fact that Lloyd is reformed. That’s the original reason that he looked him up when he was released from prison - to check out his alleged ‘progress.’ Zach is an incredibly loyal person and he’s very patriotic. He was concerned that Lloyd was still dangerous, not just to others, but to the United States as a whole.

For his own peace of mind, he needed to know his alleged rehabilitation was genuine. When he discovered that post-prison Lloyd was a much different person they became close friends. However, Zach has seen the worst sides of Lloyd. Because he was the embedded intelligence officer on Zach’s team, he knows exactly what Hansen is capable of. He knows that Lloyd was bloodthirsty and ruthless. Having never felt that kind of craving for violence, he treated his then co-worker like a bomb that could go off at any moment. And he kept tabs on him. On some level he’ll always think of Lloyd as a wild card, even if he’s proven himself to be reformed.

In regards to Princess, Zach thinks of her like a younger sister. He worries about her tight bond with Lloyd. His mercurial, temperamental nature, balances nicely with Princess’ more level headed and sensitive personality. The issue is that if at some point, Lloyd does something unhinged, she’ll get hurt in the crossfire. Zach sees the potential in Princess. He’s worked to sharpen her interrogation skills and bring out her emotional intelligence. He admires her ability to empathize with a subject without losing focus on the objective of the interview.

So, while Zach approves of Lloyd and Princess, he’s uneasy as to whether Lloyd is healthy enough to be in a serious relationship.

Jake Jensen

Jake is oblivious. He’s noticed the chemistry between you and Lloyd, but it hasn’t exactly registered. When Zach and Landon made a bet as to whether Lloyd and Princess would get together this year, he took it as a joke. Amused by his lack of awareness, they don’t tell him differently. Because he’s attracted to Princess, a lot of things escape his notice about her and Lloyd.

Jake’s interest in her is based on her focus, her warmth, and sense of humor. In a word, his feelings towards her could be summed up as “admiration.” He wishes he could have her innate confidence, which is incredibly sexy. Meanwhile, Landon and Zach have known all along that Lloyd had the hots for Princess. They also know that Jake doesn’t stand a chance. Nor does he *really* want one. He clicks with her and enjoys her humor, but subconsciously, he knows they aren’t a good match.

Landon McAnnay

Landon is amused by the dynamic between Lloyd and Princess. He tries not to show how invested he is in their relationship, but it’s just so entertaining. It’s like having a soap opera playing in the background at work. You have to binge watch every episode. And because Zach is such a gossip, he never has to worry about being out of the loop.

A fun fact about Landon - he’s a romantic. He pretends to be a guy’s guy but deep down, he’s a sweetheart. His relationships have all been long term and serious. Having a good relationship with his partner is a top priority for him. Watching Lloyd and Princess, he sees that same longing for love and companionship in the ex-spy.

One day, not long after Princess started dating Aiden, he makes a bet with Zach. Over post-golf beers, they place odds that Princess and Lloyd will get together before Halloween. Further negotiations stipulate that he believes it will have to be Princess who initiates the change. His rationale is that Lloyd has less experience putting his heart out there and Princess is more likely to jump in headfirst.

As usual, he’s right. He just wishes he’d laid odds on them getting together before Labor Day. That would’ve netted him a fantastic profit. Truly a missed opportunity.

Andy Barber

Andy Barber is against their relationship.

He detests Lloyd’s arrogance and sneering attitude. Before Princess was in the picture, he and Lloyd couldn’t get along for five seconds, let alone several hours. Out of everyone at Bishop & Howard, Andy benefited the most from Princess taming the beast. That’s why he recognized the chemistry between them so quickly.

An important piece of data here is that Princess is the same age Jacob would’ve been if he hadn’t died in a car accident. That’s a huge reason Andy feels so strongly about her and Lloyd. Princess is too young for him. He’s a convicted kidnapper! He spent his first two years at the firm wearing an ankle bracelet! Andy hopes Princess realizes that she’s out of his league and doesn’t give him the time of day.

As a prosecutor and a defense attorney, Andy’s spent a lot of time with criminals. He knows how charming they can be and worries about his young colleague. He sees the hunger flash in Lloyd’s eyes at Princess’ casual touches. Worse, he notices that she’s frequently oblivious to the sexual tension Lloyd exudes in those moments. Then, after a few months, he realizes she’s every bit as interested in Lloyd as he is in her.

It’s like watching a tiger hunting a baby deer. The tiger gets closer, and closer, while the fawn doesn’t comprehend the danger it’s in.

He cares about Princess. He’s thankful for her ability to wrangle his temperamental colleague. In the months after joining the team, Princess put a stop to the worst of Lloyd’s behavior. Andy’s been a lawyer long enough to know how rare it is to find someone who can mediate well. It takes a certain kind of personality.

Six months later, Andy’s perspective shifts.

He starts to see Lloyd as less of a predator. You’ve trained Lloyd in the arts of empathy, tact, and persuasion. Andy can work with him, even when you’re not around. And to be fair, Lloyd is a genius. He’s able to discern the complexities of an argument that would take others weeks to unravel. It stings to admit it, but the rate of his clients being acquitted has increased significantly since Lloyd began assisting him with trial prep.

Without the disdain that used to blind him, Andy starts to see Lloyd differently. Less like a tiger, and more like a stray dog who wasn’t properly socialized as a puppy. With more patience than anyone he’s ever met, you manage to increase the number of people who accept Lloyd’s quirks. You create situations that put Lloyd in the best light. You highlight his strengths and cover up his weaknesses. In less than a year, you turn Lloyd from the pariah of the firm into the most sought after consultant in the company. He works with every department, from the patent office to family and estate law. Lloyd seems to have evolved; from a junkyard dog into a devoted protection animal who loves his mistress. He’s like an abused mutt who imprinted on the first person to show him kindness.

Andy makes a hobby of studying the dynamic between you and Lloyd. He can’t help it. You’re the quintessential odd couple. You’re sensitive. He’s cold-blooded. You’re calm, he’s chaotic. Your optimism counters Lloyd’s cynicism. You brush off negativity and can’t be bothered by the passive aggressive behavior of the people who remain set against Lloyd. He notices that the most. Several of your friends in the paralegal department still resent Lloyd for his previous behavior. You remain friends with them and chip away at the lingering animosity. Lloyd’s improved reputation acts like a positive feedback loop. He enjoys the praise and recognition. This realization helps Andy see a key feature in your relationship with Lloyd.

It’s not the praise and recognition of others that Lloyd enjoys. He has no interest in raising his coworkers' opinion of him. But he pants after your attention like a dog hoping for a treat. It’s difficult to identify, because Lloyd doesn’t just hide his emotions, he disguises them, and lies about them without qualm. But eventually, a pattern emerges.

What Andy sees, which no one else does, is that you created the pattern.

He finally figures out that you’ve trained Lloyd to respond to certain cues. You picked up on the words he uses to describe positive and negative situations. There are certain words that only come up when Lloyd is being an asshole. You gently reminded him of the potential consequences of his actions and temper his impulsive nature.

Lloyd would bristle and dig his heels in if anyone else tried to manage him in such a way. But when you express concern, show him patience, and provide encouragement… Lloyd turns into a different person. He doesn’t know it, but you’ve trained him like one of Pavlov’s dogs.

When Andy learns that you practically raised your four siblings, he understands. Having been a parent himself, and reading extensively on the subject, it’s obvious what you’re doing. You’ve created limits Lloyd actually listens to. Refusing a meeting with someone just because he finds them boring isn’t allowed. You’re in tune with Lloyd’s motivations and the feelings he tries to disguise and repress. You know him inside and out. Andy wonders how much data you’ve filed away in your brain about ways to push Lloyd’s buttons. You measure motivations, and ask questions to test your judgments. You listen. Because of it, Lloyd feels understood, and it makes him crave your presence and approval.

At the Christmas party that year, he watches you throw yourself into Lloyd’s arms and plaster yourself against him. What surprises him is that the man doesn’t take advantage. His hands don’t wander. He gets you a glass of water and collects your wrap from the coat check. Watching Lloyd carefully guide you over the icy steps of the venue as you leave together, it occurs to Andy that he much prefers this junkyard dog when his tamer is around. You’ve slipped a collar around Lloyd’s heart, and everyone is safer for it.

Maybe you could handle him… Maybe.

Clayton Bishop

Clayton saw the potential of a successful combination between you and Lloyd before you even met.

After a long career in law and politics he’d developed an instinct about people. Bishop is a bonafide extrovert who gets his energy from meeting new people and learning about them. Take Lloyd Hansen, for example. Once his most creative student, the former spy was becoming a bore. He was struggling under the pressure of too much therapy and too little enjoyment. The bright side was that Lloyd was finally sober. Bishop had hoped the sobriety would stick, and it had. The problem was that Lloyd had become more turbulent than ever. He was frustrated by the red tape he’d never learned to deal with, despite attending law school. Who could have imagined Lloyd was better on drugs than off them?

Bishop had always had an issue with drugs. They made a person easy to control and exploit. Lloyd’s drug problem was why he hadn’t recruited him to the firm after he graduated. The substances he abused ruined a person’s health and turned their brain into sludge. Lloyd’s brain must be remarkably resilient, given everything he’d poured into his system over the years.

It was a conundrum. He needed Lloyd sharp, but sober. He didn’t know how to soften his rough edges without him falling off the wagon. Therapy was necessary and it did appear to be working. Not fast enough for his coworkers’ job satisfaction to recover to pre-Lloyd levels, but he was slowly changing. Bishop could hardly reconcile the Lloyd Hansen he’d taught twenty years ago with the current version. The only similarity left was the intelligence, drive, and unfortunately, the abrasive, pushy attitude that so many people found off putting. He knew he had to come up with a solution to the friction between Lloyd and well… everyone else. If he couldn’t, this parole arrangement wouldn’t work out.

Then one day, the solution walked into his office.

Bishop ran a large internship program. He had a knack for identifying talent and enjoyed meeting new people. That meant recruiting the semester’s interns was one of his favorite projects. He cleared his afternoon schedule for an entire week, and did each interview himself. Recently, all of his interns seemed to have the personality of a boiled carrot. It was absolutely killing his vibe. He needed open minded people who had the right energy. Ones who were comfortable challenging him, but who respected the value of a harmonious workplace. Some of the applicants these days didn’t see the difference between compromising and forsaking their morals. No matter how small the issue, they were the first to stand on ceremony by holding their ground at any cost.

Then he met you. His first impression was that you were shy, but intelligent and motivated. He hired you on the spot. It took a few weeks before your true colors shone through. He took a liking to your lack of pretentiousness. He appreciated that on the occasions when you had something to say, you communicated it clearly and directly.

After the orientation, where all the interns cycled through the departments to learn the ropes, he arranged their placements. Bishop took a risk by placing you on the paralegal team. It was a test. Their group was notoriously cliquish and vengeful. He had a dozen resumes of good applicants for the open position in their department. However, he was afraid of putting someone into their complicated team dynamic and having them crushed.

At the moment, the paralegals were set on crushing Lloyd Hanson. Bishop couldn’t blame them. The man was making their lives hell. The paralegals called Lloyd demanding, unreasonable, and rude. He called them querulous, uncompromising, and surly. They were right. Everyone in the conflict had an accurate understanding of the problem, but they refused to compromise.

He had to be honest - it was fun to watch sparks fly as the immovable object struck an unstoppable force. But the stalemate was becoming a company-wide irritation. Placing you with the paralegals was an experiment. He’d noticed you liked to watch people interact and studied them. You took in their words, actions, body language, and motivations. You empathized with people once you understood them. Your capacity for empathy and compassion was highly unusual. Combined with a sense of humor that made you a pleasure to be around, you became quite popular amongst the paralegals.

Heaven knew, those women could be a tank of piranhas if you didn’t know how to fit into their group. He’d been bitten more than once. Bishop watched you smooth Savannah’s ruffled feathers over a brief Andy had returned with corrections. You organized a mail system to handle the annoying chore the paralegals always let pile up. You cheerfully went on coffee runs and scored an invite to join their lunchtime walking group. Within a matter of weeks you’d won over the whole team.

Bishop observed these events and realized that your style of diplomacy would go a long way towards helping Lloyd adjust to his new environment. He was trying to become more sensitive and insightful. The problem seemed to Bishop that Lloyd - as intelligent as he was - couldn’t learn something he’d never seen.

If he’d ever met a human who lacked love and understanding in his life, it was Lloyd Hansen. Bishop knew more about the man’s background than he let on. Not much shocked him anymore. But the horrors Lloyd Hansen had endured, many long before he reached adulthood, was almost unbelievable.

It was clear that Lloyd couldn’t grow emotionally if he didn’t have an example. As it was, Lloyd’s therapist was struggling to find ways to jumpstart the frozen parts of his brain. Everything was connected as it should be, but some areas had gone unused for so long they’d atrophied. Functional MRI scans proved that Lloyd had been nearly turned into a psychopath by his childhood trauma. He could recover. The motivation was there. His emotions, his sense of morality and justice, had expanded during his time in prison. Bishop was thrilled by Lloyd’s growth. However, he needed him to be creative and to stay sober. He kept shooting himself in the foot with petty dramas and ruthless snark. Lloyd had to learn to play nice in the sandbox if he wanted to stay at the firm.

I would rather feel compassion than know the meaning of it.

Those words of wisdom echoed in his head, as he turned the idea of putting you and Lloyd together over in his mind. You’d conquered the immovable objects. He was curious what you could do to the unstoppable force. Perhaps highlighting the talents of others was your skill, even more than empathy and diplomacy. With that in mind, Bishop decided the combination worth a try. He would put you and Lloyd together and see what happened. If his gut instinct was right, you might be just the person to save Lloyd from himself.

Jen Kyznic

Jen does not approve of Lloyd and Princess’ relationship.

Lloyd rubbed Jen wrong on his first week at the firm. Jen is aware Lloyd is a genius, a fantastic lawyer, and an even better investigator.

What she took issue with were his demands. Lloyd came in with a presumption of what the paralegals did and wasn’t bothered by little things, such as: what are they actually paid to do?

The paralegals at Bishop & Howard tied their bonus pay to their team’s productivity. Because they’re a well-oiled machine this works out perfectly. Jen is the longest serving member of the paralegal team and she’s a huge reason this arrangement came about. She wants the pay within her group of employees to be unbiased and justified. She put in the time to make sure the board of directors agreed to their demands and she’s very proud of that accomplishment.

What kills productivity? Long, exacting research on complex legal investigations. The tasks Lloyd requires are killing her system. Jen knows, down to the minute, how long the items on her to-do list take. She doesn’t tolerate interruptions. When Lloyd interrupts her carefully ordered routine, she’s infuriated. Her sense of fairness took a major hit at his refusal to fall in line with the way things worked in the firm.

All the other attorneys marched in lock step to her orders. They knew what she was capable of when someone pissed her off.

Because Bishop requested they try accommodating Lloyd, she took on the task. Her goal was to show him how the system worked. If he would break down his tasks into smaller items that each counted towards their productivity metrics there wouldn’t be such a conflict. However… Lloyd and Jen have very similar personalities. They’re determined, motivated, independent, and authoritative. Lloyd is a maverick. Jen is a grizzly bear. You can’t put two people who love to challenge each other into a room and expect good results. In the end, the situation blew up.

Lloyd knew what he expected and he wouldn’t tolerate anything less. Jen knew how her department operated, and she wouldn’t stand for anyone running roughshod over the structures she’d built.

It took Princess stepping up and helping Lloyd to resolve the conflict. Jen doesn’t know how she can handle being around such an arrogant loudmouth. She has no idea that Princess thinks she and Lloyd have nearly the same personality… because they do. Neither of them is accustomed to giving in.

Jen isn’t going to approve of anything this cocky usurper ex-con does. Ever. Particularly when it involves her friend. Lloyd’s groveling apology after their blow out fight (which Princess helped compose) went a long way towards de-escalating hostilities between them. However, because of their similarities, Jen and Lloyd will always find each other abrasive. Jen and Lloyd will never be friends. But there’s a good chance at some point in the future, they’ll develop a mutual respect for each other.

Right now, the best case scenario is for them to each unbend a little and let Princess mediate their arguments.

I’ve recently gotten into the Lego Ninjago fandom and I drew Zane, I’m gonna put the image here but then I’m probably gonna end up rambling a bit under the cut so proceed with caution

so. like i said i've gotten into the ninjago fandom recently, and basically how that happened is like maybe five years ago? or thereabouts when I was but a child my brother was watching it and so i sorta watched it with him in like bits and stuff and then recently he was watching some of the more recent stuff that's come out and i was sorta just there and i watched a bit and i was like "oh this isn't half bad" and then i read a couple fics and looked at some fanart, and then i started shipping polyninja and coming up with headcannons, and then I spent like my whole time that was meant to be like a three day holiday with my family on a three day holiday in bed and i read like most of the polninja fics on ao3 and zane became my blorbo so I read some zangst um and yeah here we are. so yeah I am currently rewatching the show (I'm only up to like episode 4 i only started at like midnight last night) but I drew this.

But about the actual drawing bc you probably care more about that then my random rambling so um yeah:

so if you can't tell my boi is having a panic attack and all those words around him? yeah those are things that he's thinking about himself. yeah the shading isnt great but honestly? hes floating in the middle of a black void glowing with glowing words floating around him so fuck shading lighting doesn't make sense and that's ok

I'm not 100% happy with how I've drawn him but that's just something I'm gonna have to figure out through trial and error and time and shit so w/e

also um I found the glitch effect on procreate and had to stop myself from using it on like p much everything so yeah um his tears are glitching as well btw if you didn't notice

also all of them have matching trackies like this in their elemental colour with their symbl thingo on the pocket (even wu and nya and lloyd and pixal) and polyninja wear them like all the time when they're not in their ninja shit to be cheesy or whatever and the others like never wear them but lloyd secretly loves his and nya has honestly sorta forgotten she owns some until kai pulls hers and lloyds out one night and makes them wear them andd have a rgb sibling movie night and wu is just like what ???? why woukd you get me these??? ??? ??? and they're literally just an item of clothing to pixal.

and as if that wasn't enough damian and rakiel remind him so much of himself and lloyd that he ends up offering to help them without even thinking about it. like. he feels so identified with them, remembering how hard it had been for him and lloyd to go through that whole ordeal on their own that he just. tells them they have his support before he even realized what he's doing. he wasn't planning on doing that. good work on not getting sentimental babe.

when lloyd and javier are on a call planning how to defeat the demon king, despite the awful circumstances javier can't help but smile and then laugh at himself because no matter how terrible the situation is he still finds it enjoyable to prepare for something with lloyd like they used to do. "it was a feeling similar to a distant longing. or a joy that felt like going back to the past"

javier is pining so hard. like. it's insane.

lloyd saying that if anyone hears him say that they'll think they're gyeonwoo and jiknyeo. y'know. the mythical forbidden lovers that live in different realms and can only meet when the stars align so to speak.

y'know. just casually comparing your protagonists to one of the most romantic and tragic couples in mythology. no biggie.

and again. javier smiling when he sees that lloyd is still just the way he was when they were together. hello. hi. can i help you.

lloyd knowing exactly how long it's been since they saw each other in person. down to the very day. "107 years, 7 months and 17 days".

javier getting really, really, really happy about it. about lloyd still being the same. and thinking that, maybe, lloyd feels the same way deep down.

lloyd being so very, very casual about saying "it's been a while so i'm glad to see you" very specifically calling back to the very thing javier says to him whenever they talk.

and then. and then javier. thinking as he sees lloyd leave. that it was really nice to meet him after so long. and that the sight of him leaving still felt the same as it did before. and wondering if those gyeonwoo and jiknyeo lloyd mentioned before felt like this too.

javier. comparing what he feels at seeing lloyd leave. to what the cowherd and the weaver girl felt at separating again.

anyway if this novel doesn't end with the barriers between hell and heaven falling apart so lloyd and javier can spend the rest of eternity together instead of helplessly pinning over the other and reminiscing over the lifetime they already spent together i will throw someone off a bridge <3

My Movieverse Play-by-Play (if you’re interested:

- The Good Morning Ninjago segment at the beginning may have started out as an actual segment but the birthday bit was DEFINITELY Lloyd’s internalization of his Issues. Might have even been a dream considering how he was asleep at this time.

- The whole thing being a dream would also say some pretty funny stuff about how he sees both the news anchor and himself and his fellow ninjas.

- Garmadon really did try to call him in order to wish him a happy birthday. He does it over breakfast. He tries to play it cool in order to come off as suave and interesting, but ends up coming across as an asshole instead. He gets Lloyd’s age wrong, makes a couple comments about how ugly he was as a baby and then somehow forgets to actually wish him a happy birthday before he hangs up to go to work. (He may have tried and failed to cheekily tell him that he has big plans to conquer Ninjago today but if he does it completely goes over Lloyd’s head.)

- Zane is CONSTANTLY attempting to relate to Lloyd by referencing Cool Teen stuff, but he does such a horrible, horrible job with it that Lloyd just thinks he’s doing a really bad job at trying to disguise his being a robot. He is also constantly trying to Emotionally Relate to Lloyd in order to make him feel better, but is just. The worst at it.

- Lloyd thinks Nia is an absolute badass, which is why he imagines her riding a motorcycle into the school building. She’s probably much sweeter in reality (especially to Jay, who is her boyfriend) but he just thinks she’s so cool and awesome and badass that he always sees her as an absolute rocker chick.

- Lloyd thinks Cole is awesome, too — to a bit of a lesser extent but not by much. He’s mainly kind of a stable, grounding figure. Unlike Zane, Cole actually does a pretty good job at relating to Teen stuff, especially when it comes to music, so the two of them vibe quite a bit. Maybe he even sneaks Lloyd into the concerts he DJs at sometimes! (Maybe he introduced Lloyd to Scene Kid music — *gets shot*)

- Kai is super passionate and openly affectionate, like, ALL the time, hence the big birthday hug at the beginning. Kai wants Lloyd to think he’s awesome, too, but he. Tries a bit too hard :/ So Lloyd sees him as a bit of an overzealous dork. But that’s NOTHING compared to

- Jay, who tries so, SO hard to get Lloyd to see him as a Big Strong Hero and Older Brother Figure (maybe even like he did when he was a little kid) but constantly screws it up to the point where it backfires into making him look like just. The BIGGEST loser (affectionate). But he’s honestly the most, like, emotionally intelligent member of the squad? Which is why we get little throwaway lines like “They’ve all got their quirks, you know?” and “Maybe I should take your father this time!” and even that little close up shot of his face after Lloyd snaps at Garmadon publicly. Because even if Lloyd doesn’t see him as a badass, necessarily, he does see him as a very heartfelt friend (which ironically is probably one of the last things Jay would have expected lol).

- That cheerleader squad at the beginning with the “Boo Lloyd” chant thing was WAYY less successful in reality, because it’s just So Ridiculous. Unfortunately it stuck in his head because Lloyd is just so sick of getting bullied all the time (hence it somehow showing up on the RADIO), so the other ninjas don’t bring it up in front of him — but they totally cackle about it when he’s not there because it’s just so over-the-top DUMB.

- The ninjas let him take the lead on missions usually because they think Lloyd is genuinely a pretty good strategist. He gets it from his dad!

- During that fight scene at the beginning, when Lloyd was trying to get his dad to say he cared about him, Garmadon was legit just trying to throw the Green Ninja off his scent. When Lloyd accidentally slipped and said “what happened to your child,” Garmadon immediately tried to distance his son from him as to not make him a target. This backfired, obviously.

- The scene at the volcano had a LOT more of Garmadon ranting about his son to his generals. Lloyd isn’t really in a headspace to get this, so we only see a small hint of this with the line “I’m not your father” (“is that a weird thing to say to us?”) while in actuality Lloyd was a MUCH bigger part of his motives. Hence them choosing to throw both him AND Lloyd into the volcano later down the line.

- A lot of the background characters are really just voicing Lloyd’s inner monologue. Like when they’re wondering why the Ninjas don’t just get rid of Garmadon already. This happens with the side characters too, like when Garmadon commented on “all that information [playing catch] is just sitting in his brain, un-utilized”, or when his mom was on the phone and said that she knew the neighbor said they never wanted Lloyd to play with their kid despite Lloyd being sixteen and not at the age where that would be something adults would typically be saying to one another.

- The ninjas are all actually much more competent than they’re shown in the film, but Lloyd always feels stupid whenever he’s trying to learn their moves and hide behind bamboo and stuff, so they LOOK really stupid to reflect this.

- On a similar note, Lord Garmadon is actually WAY more intimidating, but 1) Lloyd is too pissed at him to be scared and 2) Garmadon tries to make jokes with him post realizing that this is his son, thereby making him seem goofier than how he normally acts.

- Sensei Wu legitimately learned how to play Emo songs on his flute just to try and relate to his nephew. (Cole probably taught him.)

- Lloyd’s mom is actually way spunkier, but he sees her as way softer and stuff because she always makes a point to be very kind and loving to him.

- When Lloyd first threatens to use the ultimate weapon, Garmadon is legit trying to defuse the situation and frantically trying to calm him down because he and Wu are the only ones who know what that thing is, but Lloyd is so on edge that he sees it as way more threatening than it actually is.

- Lloyd being the Green Ninja is actually a Way Bigger Deal to Garmadon than it seems at first, hence the whole Record Scratch thing. This was a BIG twist for them, and Garmadon is actually pretty emotional about it, but Lloyd is just completely pissed off and unable to see that.

- Likewise, the rooftop pool party is almost entirely Lloyd’s enraged imagination regarding what went on after he left. His mother’s appearance was the closest to what actually happened, though it was still MUCH less chill when it actually happened. (Might be a result of Garmadon trying to play it cool when he retells it later lol)

- The ninjas don’t actually blame Lloyd that much for the weapon disaster: they didn’t know either! But Lloyd feels so guilty and everyone is so frantic that he interprets it like that anyway. Also they were totally freaking out way more than he remembers: he was feeling a bit too guilty to pay attention to that.

- Lloyd thought Wu said “Ultimate Omelette Weapon” at first and was so embarrassed that he pretended that his dad thought that instead.

- Garmadon specifically went after them to try and find Lloyd, actually, but Wu (understandably) beat his ass the moment they made eye contact.

- Wu and Garmadon keep promoting the books they wrote lmao, it’s like a weird midlife crisis thing

- The other ninjas took the chance to actually try to get to know Garmadon, who was trying to get close to his sob for once. This includes them trying to prompt him to join in by playfully ribbing him.

- Again, the former General Number Ones DEFINITELY targeted Lloyd as well as Garmadon when they captured those two. AbsolUTEly. No other way to explain why they left the other five ninjas completely unscathed. The “And this random ki-ID!” line is a cheeky nod to how Lloyd is seeing the situation as opposed to what’s actually going on.

- The “who would make fun of you for that” line was an attempted apology done very, very poorly.

- Not an addition but “I think I might be an adrenaline junkie” is an underrated line.

- Them saying that they need to be better friends is Lloyd’s mind’s way of crying out for their help when he thinks he’s about to die in a volcano. He still needs his older siblings :)

- That one General Number One ABSOLUTELY targeted Lloyd specifically when his arm got ripped of are you kidding me.

- Also I can’t decide if the others were panicking more or less than he imagined when he lost his arm. (Same with Lloyd: can’t decide if he was ACTUALLY that calm or if he was babbling in terror and pain as they tried to calm him down lol)

- Garmadon actually was trying to suggest they try to be a family again, but again: he FUCKED it UUUUP.

- Lloyd didn’t actually remind them of their powers: he just helped them keep their cool and follow a plan to get out of there. (Like I said: they let him be the leader because he’s genuinely their best strategist.)

- “No. I thought being dead would make you listen to me more. And I was right!” LMAO

- Lloyd doesn’t actually reveal his identity to the world at the end, it’s just a metaphor for how he’s actually opening up and finally letting his dad in.

- His apology to his mom for taking her for granted is kinda aimed at all the ninjas, too :)

Glen barely had time to feel the relief when he heard two quick claps behind him. Standing in the doorway, Stan had a concerned look on his face, cigarette dangling out of his mouth. It would have been comical if the situation were different.

"Did it work?" Hayden's voice jumped in, tone indicating she was unaware of preceedings.

In a matter of seconds, he was in front of her, pulling her up, holding her tightly against him. As her arms curled around his back, head resting on his shoulder, he felt himself relax as well.

Thinking himself in control of his emotions, Glen took a step back. All it took was one look at her confused face, just one and he fell back to instincts once more. In seconds, he pulled her close, lips meeting hers. The desperate nature behind it was reminiscent of their interactions on the road. Slowly, he regained himself and his hands made their way to sit on her shoulders, pulling back to give her a look over once more.

Oblivious to any previous danger, she let out a breathy laugh, but his expression stayed set with concern. "I'm not complaining about the wake up, but--"

"Are you alright?"

Another chuckle was made at the notion that she wouldn't be, but it stopped once she spotted the red stain on his shirt. Right where her face had been. Her hand shot up to her nose and pulled back with fresh blood. She realized now.

That luck was short lived as Hayden threw the door open and reached the control panel. She really didn’t know what else she should have expected. Even if she did have her key card, it would be no use, any pull she had was bound to be removed sometime ago. And now with this damn thing weighing around her neck impeding her ability to do anything beyond normal physical means…

"There might have been a way with magic, but I can't—" And then it hit her. She couldn’t. Her magic was shot. Didn't mean they couldn't use magic at all. "Do you trust me?"

"Do I really need to answer that?"

While Glen’s smile, his subdued attempt at humor, the conviction he had for her, it was all appreciated but, the response wasn’t exactly what she was looking for. Their faith in each other had been established some time ago.

"You, no. Lloyd, yes."

Wide eyes looked back at her as Lloyd was thrown on the spot. His hesitance was highlighted, and indicated he was astutely aware of where this type of question usually led. Nowhere good. And he was terrified of what it was about to put on him.

"Shit, when you say it like that…"

All that was needed to stress the urgency was the sound of a body smashing alongside the nearby wall, a reminder of what was happening around them to prompt a more direct answer.

"Fuck, yes! I trust you, okay!"

Hello hello! Your reverse au has pulled me into the deep end.

For one, are you planning on properly writing down this story as a fanfic? And if not would you be willing to let other write it? (With credit for the idea and au of course)

And two, I’m really curious about Wu in this timeline! Judging by the character designs and traits it seems that garmadon grew up fine without the poison or his oni/demon traits popping up until this point. So how did wu fair 👀 why is he fighting his son? And maybe how he adopted morro and a tidbit about morro and Lloyd’s relationship ☺️

I’m already brainrotting this like thinkin about how Nya would be her fathers assistant like Claus was to Chen while Kai infiltrates the tournament.

I know I’m rambling but speaking of, does Claus work at Chens restaurant? And are him and garmadon like brunch buddies? I can imagine all too well these two sitting down at like a Starbucks and talking about student shenanigans.

I KEEP GOING I CANT STOP- for the EMs in the tourney, would their whole characters be swapped or maybe just their personalities. Like this event was advertised as a friendly competition to find “who’s the best” and all the EMs are just like a collection of every day people who happen to have been training elemental powers.

For your first quesion: I do not currently have plans to write a Reverse!AU fic, I just don't have enough thought out story to write a proper fic yet. I may do bullet notes or oneshots at some point but not a full fic.

If anyone would like to write a fic of it I would be ELATED, please do not be afraid to do so, just @ me or something when you post it so I can see it! <3

Next! So my idea right now is the Spinjitzu brothers both took more to one of their halves, Garm is more Oni and Wu is more dragon. They both have traits from both but lean more to the side of one (Ex: Garm has gold eyes, Wu has red). Garm actually looks more Oni than he appears, he's just using his limited shapeshifting power to hide it as he doesn't like that part of himself.

When Wu and Garm were sparing and Wu's sword went over the wall Wu quickly went to get it and was bitten by the Great Devourer. However, due to his strong dragon blood, the venom was much slower to take effect, giving him a longer normal life and more of a chance to bond with his family.

Living with Lloyd and watching him grow up made Wu realise that even if it wasn't with Misako he still wanted a child of his own to raise. So, he found an orphanage in a small village nearby and adopted little Morro when he was only a year and a half years old. He was good enough to stay with Morro and raise him for the first 6 years he was there and loved him very much, that love probably held the venom back even longer than his dragon blood did. For a couple months he showed many signs the venom was finally getting to him, but he never showed them around Morro. One day he finally snapped and got sent to the underworld for another 6 years before the Pilots. He was there plotting his revenge for most of that time as the evil grew more quickly in the absence of his family. He hadn't even considered Morro being involved in the fight but when he found out, well... he'd come too far to let his emotions stop him now, if worst came to worst he'd spare him, the venom wasn't strong enough to make him take his own son's life, right?

(Sorry this was so long lol, I have many thoughts)

Now for Morro and Lloyd's relationship. (Get ready for some more sad) Morro was only about 3 1/2 years old when Lloyd ran away, he doesn't really remember Lloyd, maybe only a few vague memories. On Lloyd's side of things, however, Morro was old enough to talk and walk and have fun with him, Lloyd has a lot of happy memories of his little cousin and he misses him a lot.

*Smirks evilly* Great minds think alike. Nya is at her father's side for most of the Tournament, going off to do his dirty work while Kai is incognito as just another EM. Everyone knows Nya is Ray's daughter as she was introduced as such.

Clouse is Chen's adoptive son INTERN at Chen's Noodle House. He's 19ish and going to college for Chemistry (closest normal equivalent I could think of for magic). Chen has practically adopted him at this point TAKEN HIM UNDER HIS WING as cooking is, in some ways, a lot like chemistry.

Garm didn't know Chen very well before the ninja business but after talking with him when he came for Skylor and hearing her talk about him he reached out and the two have been enjoying brunch together every Saturday they can sense. And yes, they do talk about student shenanigans lol.

For your last one, I love your ideas!!! I'll have to take more time to think about how I'd do it for my AU but that is a great idea!!! Maybe I could have opposite personalities switch elements like Griffin and Paleman or something. I'm not sure about this one at all though, I'll definitely have to brain rot over this some more so I can post something more concrete about it.

hiiiii i wanna hear about your little guys mithos and genis i miss them

HECK YES i miss them too so bad

describe their canon relationship/dynamic

they're sort of like each other's manic pixie dream girl which i think is a really funny thing to have done with a pair of middle school aged kids in a jrpg from the early 2000s. genis has always felt constrained and restricted by the fact that he has to lie about his half-elven heritage, even to the people he loves very dearly, because if he doesn't then he will basically without exception be put in Extreme Danger. he bottles up everything inside himself to support others, tries not to complain, tries to play everything off as a-okay even when it's not. so naturally, when he meets mithos, someone who is Just Like Him, he finally has someone he can express himself genuinely to!

mithos, of course, has lived through...some of the most traumatic stuff a kid can live through. he knows he's hated, he knows the world is against him, and when he decided to try infiltrating lloyd's group, he'd also weathered about 4000 years of immortality spent pretending to be someone he's not. so when he meets genis, someone who is Just Like Him, he finally has someone he can express himself sincerely to.

all it took, for both of them, was a single act of kindness, a person who they both felt could understand them without having to do all that icky explaining stuff. and...considering that, all the way to the end, no matter what mithos did, genis still wanted to believe in him and have faith in him and not hurt him no matter what, genis did understand, even as mithos lied and lied about how he'd hated all of them the whole time

it's a tragedy born of love and understanding and one of them deciding that a villain like them shouldn't get to be happy and the other vehemently disagreeing. i am owned every single day

your ideal/headcanon version of it? how does it differ from how it is in canon & why is this your favorite version? any other alternate versions of it you enjoy?

well i LOVE a good tragedy (as you all know...) but god i want them to both live and get to be together so bad . shoutout to the like 30k words i wrote of them set in the phantasia timeline that was still unfortunately a tragedy because mithos is STILL a villain who did very bad things and genis is still stubbornly always wanting to be with him against the wishes of others

...but i'm also a huge fan of genis trying to bring mithos back from the dead. ahaha <3

what do you like about their relationship, why is it interesting or enjoyable to you?

i like... relationships that are tragedies. for some god dang unknown reason. the fact that it's doomed from the start is appealing to me. the fact that it's pure and sincere on both sides? also appealing. the fact that genis's kindness and affection was what made mithos realize what a horrible person he's been? absolutely freaking excellent

what about the individual characters involved? what does this relationship mean to them, what makes it unique among their relationships?

I KINDA. ALREADY WENT OVER THIS BUT both of them have to pretend to be someone they're not All The Time. genis bottles up all of his negative emotions so he doesn't make things harder on his sister and lloyd and colette, not to mention the whole pretending to be an elf rather than a half-elf thing, and mithos has been forced into playing an Ideal Villainous Leader for 4000 years when that's not even really him. he even freaking says so himself in the game that acting as yggdrasill is the only way to be taken seriously

...not to mention that, well, all it took for mithos to realize that what he's done is Freaking Awful is to go down and see what's happened, and for just one person to be kind to him. which means he'd been isolated and stuck up there for 4000 years, and no one was ever just...kind. to him. ugh. augh

During the whole rivalry era bruise had going on, Jay worked really hard to become physically stronger than Cole (even though Cole has super strength) to feel at least a bit better than him. This, though, led to Jay being able to pick Cole up with some trouble yes but he can so everytime he feels like it he just-- picks Cole up

Kai never learned to get nice things for himself. He would always get nice things for Nya growing up to see her feel happy

Cole never understood why people like his singing, he always thinks he's a bad singer

There was a time Zane saw someone give a cheek kiss another person goodbye and he thought of it as a normal way people would tell goodbye to each other, so he ended up giving everyone goodbye cheek kisses
