Great theory! Also about the letter, it makes much more sense to think that Sc were already hiding somewhere in Marley. That way it wouldn't be hard for them to get Eren's letter. And correct me if I'm mistaken, but the amount of time it would take for theSC to travel from Paradis to Marleyan would be much longer than the time that passed since Eren sent the letter.

My bet is that they have a secret base or something in Marley. What’s making everything confusing is Mikasa’s “come back home” line, but that’s because we are assuming “home” = “Paradis”

Oooh, good points, all of these. Particularly the home = Paradis bit, I hadn’t thought to question that.

A separate Paradisian base in Marley is indeed what I was considering--or at least, some sort of foothold there, maybe with some surviving Eldian Restorationists. I had sort of assumed in the back of my mind that maybe Zeke was getting messages back and forth to Paradis, but how would he do it with nobody noticing? Boats would surely be noticed, since nobody’s going to Paradis legitimately. Carrier pigeon? (Serious suggestion.) In any case, seems like any kind of communication to and from Paradis requires a base of some kind on the mainland.

You make a good point about time. Travel distances, iirc, have been exceedingly vague, as have time skips in general. We really don’t know the distance between Paradis and Marley--I don’t think Isayama’s given us any strong indications there. But depending on the size of the island, my napkin math’s saying it’d be something like 1-4 days sail from Paradis to the coast on one of Marley’s battleships. I have 0% confidence in that math though, because Isayama seems determined to handwave things like distances so far. All we really know is that it is, apparently, one night’s train ride from the war front back to Liberio--which tells us nothing, since we don’t know where either the front or Liberio are located. Meanwhile, I don’t think we got any confirmation of how long it was between the festival’s first announcement, in c95, and the festival itself. I had assumed a couple months, for such a big to-do, but we don’t know.

So I tend to think there was probably time between the letter and the festival for the SC to get their asses over to Liberio and hash out a plan. I do think whoever came up with the plan had to have been to the place in person to see what was there, but they may not necessarily have met with Eren in person for that. And while the plan looks a lot like something Hange or Armin might’ve come up with, it’s also entirely possible that it might be Zeke’s creation. Who knows?
