While poorly, I've been rewatching Deadloch again.
I've watched the show so many times and yet every single time I notice something new. Like the prevalence of snakes and snake imagery all the way through the whole thing from the opening scene. Even the cakes Ray is putting out are snakes.
Especially in Margaret's arc - she's always pointing out other people as the enemy and the threat and using snakes as an implicit threat, when it turns out she - the colonising white lady - is actually one of the dangers.
Something about Margaret - the living incarnation of entitled white colonial power - being bitten by a tiger snake on stolen land that she killed to keep, then dying on the grave of her ancestor who colonised the area, ending her family line just... perfect poetry.
It also delights me that for all that Margaret goes on about snakes as the unseen danger, Tammy wears a hoodie with snakes all over it and Faye redecorates the exterior wall of the community centre with a beautiful mural of a tiger snake.
Also reading about tiger snakes in Tasmanian lore - the snake recognised as a protector of the land & also tied with the flow of rivers. Interesting then that the murderers in the show meet their ends a) on an island denied to its rightful people and b) in a powerfully flowing river.
Bonus aaaaaa about the symbolism of a snake shedding its skin - renewal and rebirth and the way the show ends with a new sense of community for all the people finally able to be and live as themselves in Deadloch. Especially Tammy and Miranda both adorned in ochre, something they've been denied for years because of the Carruthers family.
I love the layers and layers that the writers have built into the storytelling. The more you watch, the more you see in it. A multi-textured tapestry which makes such a fantastic complete image that at first you might overlook the little details all the way through it.
In conclusion I love Deadloch with a fiery passion and can't wait to see what shenanigans they get up to in Darwin in S2

One thing I love about bluey is that a lot of times bluey and bingo are left to sort out their sibling squabbles on their own. Once bandit and chilli give them the tools they need to solve a problem they step back and let them solve it!

hiiii ^^ beastlife fishie analysis. spoilers ahead. etc etc
okay so. the main point of this is simple. I don't think the salmon head cursed c!fishie. Explaining that is the harder part I think. also i'm going to refer to the salmon head thing in e5 as "the incident" from here on out because frankly i think it's funny
Let's start with the incident. The big day. etc. What happened? Why did it happen? Obligatory third questioning statement? Well. She was gifted the salmon head for her birthday by kiwi(or like. someone in the kiwibird system. -bird system. the birds). Immediately upon receiving it she relives parts of season one and fishie herself doesn't really acknowledge it. The other players definitely notice but im not caught up enough in any other pov yet to like have thoughts on that I'll come back to that point someday. Fishie seems shaken, sure, but she moves on so quickly, especially considering what happened just there. 37 seconds of standing frozen, unresponsive. she recovers in 5 seconds. And seeing how she reacts later on to realizing the memory situation--if she was aware that happened, she would probably be concerned by it. She puts it on for a brief second at the end of the party and takes it off immediately. She's otherwise normal -- well. as normal as she is otherwise up to that point. Because that is also how she acts with pretty much any salmon head, even just kiwi herself.
I raise: Episode one, about 8:20 in. The slow zoom on kiwi as the static overtakes every other noise. This is the *exact* same behavior displayed when fishie receives the salmon head, albeit without actual concrete old video footage style flashbacks. In episode two (28:55ish) the same thing happens when she looks at the salmon head in moch's house, but this time there is technically a flashback -- kiwis grave. Fishie moves on immediately and doesn't acknowledge her behavior at all, and, seeing as it is fishie, im inclined to believe that means she does not know she is doing it. Fishie (when alone) will discuss all of her problems in immense, and usually misguided detail (bestie i promise kiwi doesn't hate you???) to the audience and/or herself. I mean she's not alone in episode one, and it is technically presession, and i guess getting struck by lightning is a decent distraction from your problems, but in episode two? She is completely alone. There is nobody with her. She went looking for moch and moch is not there. She still doesn't acknowledge the fiveish seconds she is completely frozen. This happens again and again with kiwi and salmon heads.
And then that leads you to e5. The incident. She's. well. she's doing worse. 0:50. "This will distract me if i leave it up." This is the first mention from fishie herself about how fucking weird she's being, and even then she doesn't seem concerned. I think she does not realize she's being so so incredibly weird about it. If the static and freezing is what's referred to as "distraction" then keeping it in her inventory makes it worse actually so it wouldn't really make sense unless the way it is distracting her is NOT the. well. whatever the fuck is wrong with her (affectionate). After she puts the head on there's the static all the time but for a short brief amount of time she's like significantly more normal and i don't really know if that means anything i just think it's really funny.
And then we all know what goes on during the incident i'm not analyzing this video frame by frame. um. i could. but i am not going to right now. And then she has the conversation on the table with kiwi where she like is normal for 5 minutes. Like genuinely the most. i guess stable? fishie's thought process is is like in the moments directly after the incident. She is immediately understanding with the antikiwi situation, they come to an agreement that they're like. okay now. "thank you for everything and im so sorry i couldnt do more" / "it was short, but it was nice" "i knew what i was getting into when i married you" etc etc and then they kind of rush it at the end because people won't stop dying. But then fishie is fishie and takes it in the complete opposite extreme (from. um. whatever was wrong up until now. to "oh kiwibird must secretly hate me because" and then there's no real good reason she's just like that) and it's also an issue. And i think the season two memory thing is also a part of that but this is so long already and so i'm not going to get into it rn. So bringing all of this back to my original point: the salmon head was not the cause of the curse(?) because she's been so weird all the time forever and the salmon head thing was just like. an effect. of whatever went Wrong(tm) in the season transition. like the head was a vessel to Be Worse about it but i feel like it would have worked with any salmon head she got her hands on and that it happened to be kiwico was a coincidence and also that the head wasn't cursed at all there's just something deeply wrong with fishie s3 in general and uh yeah 👍
I'm so sorry this is so disjointed i had a thesis statement and everything. alas

Donna’s Journal
...all this crap with. :(
I was so excited to go out with Eric tonight. I have that great pink and yellow dress with those great brown sandles (sic).
Wow!! ... Eric and I went to second base tonight. He was hilarious. He just stared at them like that RCA dog.
Should I have wrapped them up with a bow and given to him..... I’m so funny! No way
Oh God, I am a tease!
I wish my mom cooked like Eric’s mom. Last night I couldn’t figure out what I eating (sic). And Eric’s mom makes the best cookies. I wish my parents were like Eric’s...... No I don’t. Mine are cooler. I can get away with more. Actually my parents are great and in style.
Why does the neighbor boy keep following me around school? How weird!!! I wonder if he’s mental? Maybe he likes me.
I really enjoyed everyone hanging out last night. Can’t believe Fez stuck that blue ball up his nose. I wanted to punch him for doing that. It was embarrassing.
What was Dad’s problem last night? I felt as if he and mom were going to do it right on the kitchen counter. I know he saw me walk through. Don’t they know I live here too!...... Maybe I should just move out.......I wish I had a [something] hangout with
When I get into college I want to be a doctor.... or.... maybe a lawyer! I can do anything. I wonder why in the olden days only men worked and mothers stayed home. I do think a housewife and mother are work/. But they could be so much more.
I can’t figure out why Jackie likes Kelso. Actually why Kelso likes Jackie! Their (sic) perfect for each other.
Today Fez was so funny. He ate 3 bags of marshmellows (sic) in 3 minutes. I think that’s a record or something. And Kelso balanced a snow cone on his nose. What a weird day.
I had the weirdest dream about Eric last night. He was Eric, but he was also Steven Tyler from Aerosmith. And he looked really wicked and dangerous... which is not Eric. Sometimes I wish he were like that.

aib is fucking wild actually the attention to detail is just. it drives me crazy theres so many jokes in the background constantly theres so many things where youll be like 'wow thats a fun visual gag' or 'thats a nice little bit of characterization' and then you realize while rewatching thats there was MORE set up to that or it just keeps staying consistent and builds on it more later. and like all of this is awesome on its own but also its all animated in FUCKING *POWERPOINT*?? insane.

Rewatching the fallout show and I noticed this little detail during the duel between The Ghoul and Maximus in Filly that I missed the first time but absolutely love, where Maximus destroys the wooden bridge Cooper is standing on, causing him to fall flat on his ass. He drops the act and his silly little accent for a moment and says "goddamn, that hurt!" outwardly, as though he is complaining to the set crew, which, in his mind, he probably is. I love this small moment so much because it's so rare that he sets down "The Ghoul," and it shows his mentality, his way of operating in this world. To him, it is all a set, and he's just really deep in character. It also suggests that this man did not even do his own stunts as an actor, and that his "shrug off the bullets" act is purely that, an act. This man is in so much pain, but doesn't dare show it out of fear. Lucy is absolutely going to break down his act next season, and I'm so excited to see it.

Currently watching Twisters with headphones and subtitles (as it should be experienced). If you had a hard time hearing some of the quieter dialogue like me, here is a list of little details I didn't notice the first time:
Scott's driver tells to Boone to blow him when the Tornado Wranglers arrive at the first gas station.
Ben telling Tyler to keep his eyes on the road when he is staring at Kate as she and Javi pass them.
As Boone is hanging out the window loading rockets, he sings 'Dead End Road' by Jellyroll and then when the camera pans out he yells "SING IT BEN!" (Honestly this rewatch caught a lot of background dialogue for him, made me love Boone even more).
The cause of the broken trigger during the second tornado is melted chocolate and Tyler is lecturing Boone about eating chocolate in the truck.
In the background after the Stillwater tornado you can see the StormPAR guys digging the truck out of the wreck of the motel. (Still find it hilarious that it survived, considering we see a - slightly smaller - truck get sucked straight into the tornado in the same area).
Scott 100% calls Riggs his uncle. I already was pretty sure that was what he said, but subtitles confirmed it.
You can barely hear the dialogue, but the entire time during the EF5 that hits El Reno Scott is the one talking in the truck with Javi. It's all super quiet because of the music and sound of the tornado, but throughout the entire thing it is Scott who is showing fear and Javi is the calmer one (while still being realistic for the scene). I think it just adds an interesting take on how calm he is later and wanting to go back to the tornado. Maybe a bit of a pride thing?
Not so much something that I *just* noticed, but I find the inconsistency with Tyler's truck damage at the end hilarious. The thing just got rolled by an EF5 and a few days later (StormPAR truck is still covered in mud, so it can't be a big time gap) it seems fine at the airport. I can totally see him being the type of guy who would absolutely run it to the mechanic as soon as possible, that is HIS BABY.
This has been Live Watching with Claire.
