"I volunteer," you screamed.

You weren't going to let Annie go. You couldn't . You join Finnick up on the stage.

He gives her a sad smile he knew she would volunteer.

You were freaking out. Absoltely losing it.

You had mascara running down your face. You should be socializing and getting sponsors, but you were crying in the bathroom.

You were terrified. You would either have to, watch Finnick die, kill him. Kill yourself, have him kill you, or watch him lose you.

You walked out to find him. He was talking to the girl on fire.

"Do you want a sugar cube? I know there for the horses, but they have their whole lives. We have a few weeks," he says offering her ons.

She gives his a disgusted look, he eats it himself.

You walk up to him and wrap your arms around his waist, your tear stained face hidden in his neck.

"Hey baby," he says smiling.

Katniss looks even more disgusted, a stupid capitol lover. Upset that he would die, he would, not her.

Finnick turns you around and walks you back somewhere private. You both end up in your shared room.

"What's wrong baby," he softly coos at you.

"We aren't going to live," you cry into his chest.

He softly soothes you.

"I don't want to tell you this," he softly whispers the plan in your ear

"You don't know it, kay," he says.

You nod in agreement.

"I love baby," you say.

"Hey, you know I love you," he says plopping a sugar cube in your mouth.

You smile as you bite down.

"That was my last one," he says in a mock pout. His lips dive down to meet yours, taking some of the precious sugar with him.

"Rude," you playfully shove him.

"Why didn't you tell me?" You question

Finnick sighs, "Haymitch thought it might upset you, that I would be willing to die to get Katniss out,"

Your face drops , "I'm not letting that happen." You state and hug him. You wrap your arms around his neck as he hides his face in your neck.

You might die. But he wouldn't. He couldn't. And, fuck Panem. If Finnick dies, than you can't live. If Katniss had to die for him to live....

You couldn't think like that, but if it came down to it... could you let him sacrifice himself?

Coriolanus Snow vs. the Underdogs

So a new trailer for the TBOSAS just dropped when I'm writing this, and I haven't really done many Hunger Games analyses. And I just want to say how important TBOSAS is for those who are either new to the series or don't get why Suzanne Collins wrote about this time in Snow's life. So I'm going to break it down for those who may not have seen these connections, or those who just don't get it in the first place. Also, this contains spoilers for the TBOSAS book, so go read it before the movie!

So, i've met many people who don't get why TBOSAS takes place when it does. if you're not aware, it takes place around the time of the 10th Hunger Games, in which Coriolanus Snow is on the verge of graduating from the Academy, and trying to get himself into the University. This particular year of the Games is important for him, because he is assigned a tribute to mentor. He is assigned Lucy Gray Baird, of District 12. Already we are introduced to some parallel between him and Katniss.

Now many fans have made connections between Katniss and Lucy Gray, primarily on the facts that it was because they both can sing, and have a good sense of survival, but the truth is, they are very different characters, but because of Snow's growing apathy, he can't tell the two apart. Lucy Gray is a performer, contrary to Katniss. Remember in the first book how Katniss thought the acting, and the being pretty part of the Games was silly? Remember how awkward she thought pretending to be in love with Peeta was? Lucy Gray wasn't like that. She was used to many people looking at her, hoping for a show. She was extroverted, charming, and more importantly comfortable with her spotlight. Katniss, while she was certainly charming, was not trained to entertain. Katniss was introverted and awkward, and she was afraid to sing in front of Cressida and her crew later in Mockingjay. She didn't like acting for the cameras in Mockingjay and the first book. Katniss preferred to be left to her own devices, rather than rely on someone else for attention.

now you're probably asking yourself; so why would these two girls have much of an impact on Snow? Well you see, they don't have all the impact, they are just one of the very many examples of this interest Snow has.

Obviously, Snow is a vengeful character; if he doesn't get what he wants, he punishes those who won't give it to him. If you hurt him, he will hurt you back. Snow has been able to use this strategy his whole life. but there's one person he wasn't able to punish for betraying him: Lucy Gray. whether she's dead or far away, Snow wants to punish her. So what does he do instead? he punishes those who remind him of her. here are a few examples: Finnick Odair.

Finnick has a few similarities to Lucy Gray; he's charming, extroverted, and can stand out in a crowd. he was--as they say--an underdog, as he was one of the youngest in the arena during his Games, and overcame the odds by becoming the youngest winner ever. so, when Finnick won, to get back at how Lucy Gray used to charm him, Snow made Finnick prostitute himself for money, and threatened that if he didn't go as Snow ordered, someone he loved would pay the consequences. this was his way to get back at betraying Snow's affection towards Lucy Gray.

example 2: Johanna Mason.

Johanna was very much an underdog. According to Katniss's inner monologue in the first book, Johanna came into the Games, playing like she was small and weak; sort of like Lucy Gray. Lucy Gray was no fighter--or at least wouldn't be able to defend herself very well, even if she had a weapon. and because of her unwillingness to give up, and her ability to capture a crowd with her comments and "bubbly" personality, this reminded him of Lucy Gray, he punished her for it.

and finally: Katniss Everdeen. Katniss, to Snow, is the living embodiment of Lucy Gray, practically the reincarnation of her. Even if she and Lucy Gray are very different, there are two things that Katniss and Lucy Gray have in common: they are underdogs from District 12. which in the point of view of the capitol, is the lowest of the low when it comes to the tributes in the Hunger Games.

and that's what all of these characters punished by Snow share: in their games they were underdogs. Finnick--the youngest in the arena. Johanna--the weakest. Katniss and Peeta--star-crossed lovers from District 12. all examples of overcoming the odds and defeating the enemy (which is the definition of a underdog).

Lucy Gray was an underdog. She had the odds against her favour and still one with her charm and talent like all of these victors did.

Lucy Gray is the beginning of this revenge Snow feels towards underdogs. Don't believe me? let's look at the movies.

One thing that makes the movies stand out from the books is how there are multiple scenes that don't include Katniss--even if the books are in her POV. One particular scene that proves that Snow is vengeful against Lucy Gray's betrayal is when he was talking to Seneca Crane about underdogs in the first movie, after . here's the exhange:

Snow: "So you like an underdog."

Seneca: "Everyone likes an underdog." Snow: "I don't... Have you ever been out there? 10, 11, 12?"

Seneca: "Not personally, no."

Snow: "I have. There are lots of underdogs [...] And I think that if you see them, you would not root for them either."

there are lots of underdogs. that's why Snow is targeting Katniss most of all, because Snow has seen firsthand the underdogs produced from the higher districts, like Lucy Gray. Remember, this scene was written before TBOSAS was even published. and Suzanne Collins worked on the screenplay for the films. Lucy Gray was the foundation of Coriolanus Snow's character from the beginning

This revenge, this hatred for those trying to survive is what literally drives Snow to punish them. the fact that they were able to bring themselves up from his iron fist with their charm and wit, and most of all--defy the system that is meant to keep them down. something that he wasn't able to do. Snow was able to manipulate, but never actually figure out the situation for himself. he always had help, he always had someone to rely on--he was never able to do it alone, unlike those victors he punished. but it could also be the other way around. these victors always had help. People betted on Katniss, gave her gifts, she had Peeta.

that's another example of Snow's vengeful attitude towards Katniss--her relationship with Peeta. I feel in some way that Snow is resented towards Katniss's relationship with Peeta. I believe he always knew that she was trying to protect him--something he could not achieve with Lucy Gray, or she never showed towards him.

so there you have it. that is why Snow is the way that he is, and that's what makes TBOSAS so important to the Hunger Games lore as a whole. I personally think that Snow is singlehandedly the most important character to analyze in this series, because what he ultimately becomes was because of a small girl who ran away.

'Monkeys Fist'

Finnick's face goes pale as he sees the screen, yn.

"Finnick. Your poor little district 13. You need to stop this," yn says looking into the camera with a empathetic look in her eyes.

"Katniss please. People are dying, we need a cease fire," Peeta says.

After that he went completely Bat Shit.

He was insane trying to get someone to rescue you, hell he tried to go to the capitol multiple times. Just to see you one last time.

It had been weeks since the broadcasts of Yn and Peeta had started. After the bombing Peeta and Yn mentioned, a rescue team had to be sent out. The Mockingjay couldn't function and neither could Finnick.

Katniss observes as Finnick ties the same knot. And unties it.

It's the same one every time. As they wait for word of the condition of Peeta and Yn, Katniss wonders why.

Why, the same one? It looks like a ball of rope, carefully entertwined until it forms some sort of ball.

"Why are you tying the same one every time?" Katniss questions to break the silcence.

Finnick gives her a sad smile, "Yn taught it to me. She said it was her favorite," Katniss almost feels bad for stirring up bad memories

And it doesn't help that in the five and a half weeks, they had been here he had been frantic worried about yn.

"Did you always love yn, Finnick?" Katnids asks.

He smiles, "She hated me, oh God how she hated me. She thought I was self centered, conceited, the list goes on," he smiles sadly, "I was her trainer. She won the games, and we became a couple. She kissed me before she left the games. I always loved her,"

He smiles at the memory, "She was also forced to be used..... by snow....for body. She's the one who found out that Snow poisoned to gain his postion. I helped gain more secrets, we both did. I told them every one. Years of work, it took some real care to not get caught, when we did. Yn blackmailed, she was good at it," he smiles as he remembers his lover.

"She sounds really...... nice," Katniss replies.

"She was, with everybody but the Capitol. We had to hide our dating, she was furious," he goes back to mindlessly tying and untying that knot.

Haymitch pushes thorough the door, "They're back. We're wanted in the hospital," katniss starts asking a million questions that Haymitch cuts off, "That's all I know,"

Katniss starts to run, but stops. Finnick is acting really strange. It's almost like he is paralyzed. She takes his hand and leads him through special defense, into the elevator, and on to the hospital wing.

The place is total chaos.

Doctors shouting patients being wheeled around it's total chaos.

"FINNICK," They hear a shriek if joy as a woman runs toward him, limping with gauze on her arm and a few bruises, and cuts.

The two lovers collapse into each other, clinging after having been so lost without the other.

They fall into a wall unable to maintain balance and stay there.

"I missed you," is all Yn says, breathless.

Finnick softly kisses her, "I missed you more,"

Yn hisses in pain as Finnick looks bewildered, "Calm down. I'm fine. Okay yeah that's a lie. I will live,"

He looks incredibly panicked as she explained her knee had to be put back into socket.

"My knot," yn says smiling as she looks at the Monkeys fist knot.

Finnick smiles and hands it to her to investigate

"I love you," she says kissing him.

After they break the kiss, "I love you to, sweetheart," he says slinging an arm around her waist to walk off together. Not willing to lose her for another second.

After they reach their room, laying side by side on the the bed. He has to know what happened.

"So. What,.... What did they do?" He asks timidly, whilst snuggling into her neck. She had always been extremely open about talking about trauma. It was how yn processed it.

"Not this time, Finny," is all she says. They lay in silence until they both drift off.

Yn wakes up to Finick staring at her.

She giggles and gives him a kiss before she gets up , Finnick groans as she changes and starts to get him up.

"Did you even leave bed?" She teases.

"This is actually one of the first times I have been allowed to sleep in here, they kept me in the pysch ward," he states.

"Poor thing," she says as she kisses the top of his head.

After a week, Peeta hasn't made much progress. But, Finnick was incredibly upset over the fact that Yn hadn't told him anything.

It wasn't the fact that she didn't want to talk about it. It was she didn't want to talk about it with him.

She talked to Johanna.

She had sworn her to secrecy.

"Please, I need to know," He would beg from Johanna.

"Fuck off unless you want me telling yn," she would threaten.

Yn had been tortured but not hijacked. She didn't need to be.

One threat to Finnick and they had her full compliance.

Johanna and Yn sat in the hummingbird room.

"I can't tell him. He would be so mad at himself," yn tells her.

Johanna thinks about this, "He has been trying to get information out of me,"

That is all Yn needs and she is racing down the hall.

Finnick greets her with a kiss. He hadn't asked her about anything since that night.

"What the hell Odair," she exclaims.

Finnick is bewildered as to what he did.

"I,-" yn cuts him off.

"You asked Johanna. I would have told you. They threatened you, it didn't work on Peeta. But it worked on me. They were going to have you tortured and hijacked. So i did what they wanted, but that didn't stop the abuse," she spills out.

"Happy now," she asks giving him a hard look with tear stained cheeks.

She runs down the hall and hides in an old closet.

'The water is so cold it's icy. She watches in fear as a wave of ice cold water hits her skin.

The water quickly drains as eltric pulses shoot through her body. She is half conscious and crying when Snow walks in.

"Poor thing," he smiles at her pain, "You have it far better than Peeta. I don't need you,"

He steps out as more waves of electricity shoots through her body'

Yn is a sobbing mess as she confides in the closet. The reason she talked to Johanna was that they were tortured together lart of the time.

Once the tears stop she makes her way to their shared room.

Finnick is sitting on the bed anxiously tying a monkeys fist knot.

"I'm sorry, love" yn says and Finnick runs to hug her.

He blabbers on and on about how sorry he is, "Pleas I love you," is the last thing he says.

"I love you sugar," sh esays and kisses him
