icymi i read on twt that ryu is jpop group exile tribe alan shirahama's younger brother and he was a graduate from expg, same performance arts school as shotaro. he's used to performing to some extent ig but i find him impressive anyway cos jp and kr training styles seem different. he looks less nervous than some trainees and has potential as vocalist and dancer both, lead for now but might move up with more experience.

ig anderson's half korean and canadian cos he doesn't speak jp and he kinda understands korean, just more comfy with english?

idk anyone's last name except ryu shirahama and kim daeyoung, the latter from a b*llying rumor which i hope isn't true. lots of allegations these days and some seemed legit but proven false later after damage's done so 😓

interestingly daeyoung got a bad rumor already. it's so quiet about the other trainees except old vids of ryu again. jungmin and minjae are korean and not a single singing vid even tho they got cast thru their singing vids? on the other hand daeyoung hasn't even debuted or sung yet. it could be a stretch to assume he's in the final lineup, someone knows and wanna ruin him with this rumor but that's not wholely impossible. or it's dark marketing combining with his new addition status at this point. maybe it will be months until we know since sm still not clearing wonbin and sohee allegations. lately sm new debut groups getting attacks just like karina was but sm cleared up and she got confirmation and support.

i heard sion debut got changed between nct tokyo and riize. he's not that neo yet but i think he can become neo later rather than fit in riize? riize is looking to be a heavily performance group with grungey, emo but youthful style?? i follow lastart more than riize lmao so correct me if i'm wrong. based on few materials that we have, shotaro, wonbin and seunghan are on the upper levels of dancing and seunghan could also be lead vocal. eunseok didn't impress me despite his long training but he might have other charms. anton is very popular but not a strong dancer yet. sohee is vocal. sungchan doesn't catch my eye when he dances but he has experience to guide others. tho not dancers, so far i see sohee and sungchan have unique performer skills in the group as main vocalist and main rapper. anton probably composes or plays music but he sure attracts fans and might grow or have surprise vocal or rap skills unrevealed by sm? eunseok is a visual ig, it's been a while since sm revealed him. having said all this, everyone looks cool in siren and the 4 non-dancers keep up with showonseung. idk if it's an effect of seeing their confirmed debut that made me biased and think they all fit riize.

i agree with another anon that lastart boys look not ready to be neo but i personally find a few trainees with more outstanding skills than a few riize members. i prefer riku's rap to sungchan and minjae's and jungmin's singing are probably better or around the same as sohee (tho to be fair, sohee hasn't shown much yet). the lastart boys need practice and experience for charisma and dance performance, which riize has more, and their own songs to see if they can nail it like riize nails theirs. sm probably wants us to root for lastart team and watch them grow like jpop idol groups as huh and other anons here pointed out.

looking back lastart boys are styled and portrayed similar to sr15b aka our first neos. xiaohenyang and kunwoocas too. i was a casual audience in sr15b era and neo concepts weren't explained fully back then so i had no idea sr15b needed to be neo like this 🤣 i felt they were youthful but saw their talents. obv they weren't as polished as now but more experienced than lastart overall tho. doie was an emotional singer from the start. taeil and jae less emotional than doie but in rookies time, they did perform better than minjae and jungmin in emotions and dance and jaeil dance better than doie anyways. jaedo did so well when t7s came out tho and without you had more emotions than jungmin and minjae's duet. after that doie keeps growing in stage presence, appeal and expression (besides emotional singing). even if jungmin and minjae don't become a skilled dancer like jae, they need to find other ways to captivate like the way doie dances with facial expression. riku, yushi, anderson, ryu, sakuya and sion look like they are on their way to becoming neo, on different extent. daeyoung is said to get good comments in dancing so we'll see.

ok my last comment for now 😅 agree with you and another anon too about the lack of correlation with previous nct units especially experience and memories. even memories, wayv has a gap with 127 and dreamies. when sungsho was in nct, yuta was the official bridge for shotaro and some members spent time with them but i bet the members were surprised by plan changes too, even if some of them were affected by unit or plan changes themselves. sm might do a show next year after the japan showcase for all units but now the gap feels even wider than sr22b. yuta probably won't appear in lastart survival show either.

As I said before, Daeyong's answers were interesting. "Nevertheless", the lyrics of choice and "when I'm drenched with sweat (i.e. gave it my all)". He seems to have grit and desire to improve. History requires a lot of memorisation.

Anderson probably just started with Korean, as he lives in Korea, there is more opportunities to practice around the clock.

Ryu's English is evidently good. The phrase that Anderson said wasn't easy (not the words, the meaning behind). It also improve his chances. Nowadays a group needs an English speaker. Not only for the West, many countries in Asia also use it. If Anderson is taken in, Ryu could be the of help as well.

What are the chances of Dae's classmates watching an idol show to release a rumour about him the day he was introduced? And to write on Pann of all places? Kfans can investigate, it's not hard to visit the school and ask around in the neirboughood or dig FB. More like someone didn't like an addition of a new contestant and a rival. We'll see. If the rumours are true, for SM it's easy to just not include him in the final line up.

Both the new bg and the Japanese unit were supposed to debut earlier (the were rumours about last summer). I guess some old trainees left seeing how many recent additions are in Lastart. The new SM gg was ready by Spring already, but their debut has been postponed as well.

I keep comparing Lastart contestants to SR15B, which is unfair, considering their training period (with exeption of YuSion, and, perhaps, Jungmin). Not to mention, the numbers for the show aren't given time to be polished as much as a debut choreo would be.

Does Lucas on the line talk about Billy (derogatory) at all? On one hand I would hate to see people make Lucas’s book about him of all people but. That seems like a pretty significant moment of racism lucas faced. If it doesn’t come up at all I smell something fishy from the duffers bc it seems like they don’t want to admit Billy’s a racist even though it was blatantly obvious. But apparently (I haven’t verified this so I could be wrong) the scene where Jonathon takes pictures of Nancy in s1 has been removed so stranger things seems more than willing to pull some strings to revise their flawed white boys’ entire characters.

Absolutely no hate intended to the author I really suspect if this is the case they were told they weren’t allowed to shine certain negative lights on “redeemed” characters

Hi! Thank you for the ask, sorry for just now getting to answering it, I wanted to take the time to answer it properly and with the quote from the book. A couple of disclaimers to start off with: I am white, so obviously can't speak about any of these topics through my own experiences, and only as a viewer of the show and a fan of Lucas as a character and having read the book. And also, I hate B*lly (may he rot in hell) and won't stand for any apologism and I have always read his treatment of Lucas as obviously racist from the start. So just a reminder that if you are a B*lly fan, my blog is not for you.

Starting off with the last topic you brought up, the ST writers room twitter confirmed that they have not edited or removed scenes from any earlier episodes. I also wanted to see for myself to be sure so I went and checked since I have the episode downloads, and the scene on Netflix now is the same it's always been. So that was just a rumor, they haven’t gone and changed anything (and in the case of that scene of Jonathan taking the pictures, there’s no way they could’ve easily taken it out without also having to remove later scenes as well, it just wouldn’t be doable.)

Okay so now onto your actual question, sorry for such a longwinded answer haha! So B*lly is mentioned in the book a couple times, but there isn’t a lot of focus on him, which I appreciated, the less we have to hear about that piece of shit, the better. The times he comes up are mostly in relation to Max and her trauma, or the consequences of his death on her and her family's life, and aren’t elaborated on that much. 

The most significant point in which B*lly comes up is the following passage:

"She always said she didn’t consider Billy family, but there’s something about seeing a person die before your eyes. I will admit I absolutely hated Billy for how he treated her, how he treated me. But standing right there, watching the Spider Monster dig into his chest like he was a throwaway mannequin—it still gives me nightmares. She cried a lot that night—and many days after—and there was nothing I could do but try to be there for her. A part of me wanted to be upset, to say, Billy made your life a living hell. When she later told me something he once said about me being bad news for her, it made me even angrier. He didn’t know me, but thought I was a problem? And what did he base that on? A part of me thought maybe he deserved what happened to him, that maybe the Mind Flayer chose him as a vessel for destruction because he already had so much darkness in his heart. Because Billy was a destroyer himself. But no one deserves to die like that. And no one deserves to watch that happen to family."

So that part is really interesting as it highlights Lucas’s struggle of understanding Max’s pain and its complexity, and then also the fact that he did hate B*lly and in a way thought he deserved to die. It is interesting how similar his thoughts are to Max’s monologue in the s4 finale, about hating B*lly for making Max’s life a living hell and thinking he deserved what happened to him, but then feeling guilty for thinking that.

B*lly’s racist treatment of Lucas isn’t spelled out but reading between the lines of reading his point of view, it’s quite clear that he knows that’s what it was. And I mean, in an interview after volume 2 Caleb himself talked about B*lly being racist, so if it wasn’t clear before (to me it has been clear even since he referred to Lucas as “certain type of person to stay away from”) it sure is now. And all in all the book does not shy away from discussing Lucas’s experience as a Black boy living in a rural, mostly-white town, and the author has said it was important to him as someone who also grew up being both Black and a nerd, that that dynamic and identity was explored. And I thought that it was a really well done and added a lot of depth.

So to answer to your question: No, I didn't get the impression that the author was made, or the book was trying to downplay or redeem B*lly in any way. He is not in focus in any way, and only discussed in relation to Lucas trying to understand Max's complicated situation and feelings after his death.

Okay, I am going to show a bit of how bad a stranger things fan I am because I do not remember the events of every episode. I will try to find the episodes for them to make the list easier to read but I am sorry

S1, ep1, The Vanishing of Will Byers. This episode slaps okay. It's not my fault. Only problem is that I notice something heartbreaking everytime I watch it. 1, Joyce talking about how she thought her son got hate crimed (sobbing and screaming and eating my mattress). 2, the fact that Joyce downplays her own son being missing while on a call with Karen. I have a few guesses why. Probably to not freak anyone out but also because she didn't want anyone thinking she was a bad mom if they did end up finding Will. 3, Jonathan having to deal with the guilt of him not being their (Jonathan, you are perfect. It was the 80s. It's not your fault)

S2, ep8, The Mindflayer. I am a sucker for the episode where everything goes to shit. I love that everyone thinks they have control before the plot twist kicks in and now everything is flying out of control and needs to be reeled back in (Con, Bob 😭 I miss him). And as previously mentioned, when they all meet up and just the absolute stress. Because two plotlines have no idea what is going on and could get hurt because they don't know that danger is right around the corner. (close second is Ep9 because B*lly get's his shit kicked in by Max for being a shit head)

S3, ep3, The Case of The Missing Life Guard. I cry every time. I actually relate to so much to Will in this episode. I cry and cry every time the rain scene comes on (close second is the episode where B*lly get's rammed by a car)

11 (Which season has the best ending?) A while ago I may have said S1 but I think actually S2. After discussing it for a while, it has the best examples of what I like. I actually think in the past I was more critical of S2 just because it was the follow up to S1. But it is actually really good 25 (favorite Mike/Will scene?) The ending of S3. this isn't hate this is just an observation: i think part of the problem regarding the hate from w*d*wmauk shippers you're getting is that i have never witnessed you discussing the harmful behaviors of shippers and their related ships if those ships are m/f whereas you frequently take issue with m/m and f/f ships or shippers (see most recently above as well as b**uy*sh*a) this isn't an accusation just an observed pattern from a gay follower who never liked m*lly so i def didn't like w*d*wmauk

This is nonsense. The first ship I ever talked about being problematic and having problematic framing from the shippers was Kashaw and Keyleth. I’ve talked about the problematic and unhealthy elements of Percy and Vex, which is something I ship. I’ve talked about the things about Fjorester, something else I ship, that aren’t healthy in regards to Jester’s romanticization and projection, and I’ve talked at least a bit about the behavior of a lot of Percy/Vex shippers and related Percy fans in the way they do things like prioritize sex in relationships in a way that devalues relationships where sex isn’t as important and perpetuating the “love fixes everything” mindset. I’ve also been very critical of some Keyleth/Vax shippers for using transphobic tropes in smut fics.

Given that, I’ve actually been critical of more m/f ships than I have same-gender ships. Outside of one post about that talked about Vax/Percy after being specifically asked about, the only same gender ships I’ve been critical of are Molly/Caleb and Beau/Yasha, and the latter only barely qualifies as being critical as the most I’ve said about it is that Yasha doesn’t seem particularly into it and that some of the shippers were incredibly cruel when people were discussing their personal experiences and how those things effected their perspective on one individual moment.

So let’s not act like the behavior of these shippers is something I’ve brought on myself for being critical exclusively of same gender ships when (1) that’s not remotely the case and (2) the amount of things like both casual and vitriolic ace-erasure/phobia, misogyny, and disrespect for mental illness coming from some of these shippers that happens in the tags without actually being aimed at me or any one particular person is something that many, many people have seen and noted.
