Week 3 - Semiotics

 I think that Semiotics is the study of images that can be interpreted in different ways. An example of this could be branding when a company combines both a topic and its message into one. This would let you look at the hidden meaning behind a simple image.

This is a  very creative Macdonalds advertisement. It's a very interesting way to incorporate Albert  Einstein who is known for his theory of relativity, with a food advertisement. It could link to the idea that he's just as human as we are who need fuel. The header of “what's for lunch” links to food being incorporated with E = MC². “Solve lunch first” reaching out to all working people out there to come on down and purchase the new burger.  I think its something unexpected for Macdonalds to come out with as an advertisement.

  On the other hand, this  “Tobasco” campaign advertisement is not as good. I would say this ad is not as good as it encourages people to drink Tabasco like it's a drink rather than a condiment. The man with the flames coming out of him does not look appealing nor would a customer willingly want to experience that. I think the idea was there to portray the sauce to be very spicy and the fire coming out of the man to look like a dragon spitting out the fire to indicate the spice level, but as a viewer, I personally would gravitate towards willingly wanting this experience as well.

The mind is a powerful tool and it’s important to know when to set it down🤔 ✨ Tools are great but they’re not always appropriate for every task for example turning on a light switch with a hammer is an inappropriate use of the tool😅 ✨ What if the same applies for the mind? What if there are appropriate uses of our analytical brains and also inappropriate uses?🤯 ✨ Maybe an inappropriate use of the tool would be to analyse the thoughts we’re having about confidence, guilt, our appearance and maybe these thoughts don’t need any work done on them?🥵 ✨ We get to decide which thoughts we want to be true and this is the power of our beliefs, if we start treating thoughts about confidence as though they’re true then we will experience feelings associated with that thinking🙈 ✨ But what if we got to decide which thoughts are true for us? I don't understand why people think gay people think the same. When people speak on the LGBTQIA+ they think they're speaking for everyone.

If someone find something they think gays will get offended about they go to Twitter/TikTok and speak for everyone. Some gays might feel offended but no one asks people like me are we offended. It's the str8 people, the feminist, the SJWs, the emotionally gays that has the loudest voices for people like me. They're doing all of this because it's popular these days to be a victim or to be a "good person". I'm honestly tired of it and would love to be an Individualist when I can still be gay but live my life accordingly instead of being part of a "community".

Drawing Week- Having fun with unusual materials and tools

We had a break from the ususal workshops and project work before half term at @strodefad​ and were encouraged to play with different materials we had at home or found in our environment. Workshops were run by each lecturer including @strodetextiles​ and @brokensharkcage​ and we got to do some #creativeplay making our own #markmaking tools and media. These images were made with crushed #charcoal and ash from the fireplace, coffee, tea, beetroot, turmeric and using sticks and lining paper left over from decorating and paper bags as canvases. A cinnamon stick makes a good pencil, as does a sharpened feather. This experience has widened my horizons and enabled me to think about using materials differently in my #creativepractice and as I love to #repurpose items in my work it inspired a series of three paintings each using different materials which I will share in another blog post.
