my favorite halloween story has little to do with halloween but: once at a college costume party i met a post-grad student who grew up by the coast and came from a family of avid amateur (semi-professional? her mom regularly won tournament prize money) fishermen (fisherpeople?), with the result that she (the post-grad student) had grown up regularly eating fresh seafood multiple nights a week, that was the basic family meal, and when she got to college (hundreds of miles inland) suddenly fresh seafood was very hard to find (on a college student's budget) and she was so frustrated that in junior year (after she moved into a sorority house and had enough space) she concocted a plan to purchase her own aquarium specifically in order to farm/breed her own fresh seafood, and i'm assuming she was so gung-ho that she didn't do her research bc no sooner had she purchased an enormous aquarium off of [craigslist i'm assuming] than she discovered that local pet (aquarium? fish supply) stores either (1.) did not sell species of fish she was interested in eating, (2.) did sell fish she was interested in eating but they were tiny/would take too long to grow to a size worth eating, or (3.) sold fish-she-would-want-to-eat of a size-she-would-eat but at a price that made them more expensive than just going to the fish section of the local grocery store (((did she think they would be cheaper? and if so why buy an aquarium at all why not just buy and quickly consume the fish???))), or (4.) a combo nation of the 3.

But ANYWAY by this point she has already purchased the aquarium, so she goes ahead and buys some tiny fish of a species she was interested in consuming (i want to say guppies. i know they weren't guppies it was another species entirely, probably several different species, but in my headspace that detail has been overwritten with the label "[guppies]" so guppies it is). anyway the guppies don't look particularly delicious but she's observing them pretty often (multiple times a day) in order to track their growth, and soon she's regularly jotting down notes and calculating their caloric intake and predicted weight increase and she's tweaking the aquarium settings to facilitate growth and--basically she becomes an aquarium person. you know, those people who have an aquarium and are heavily mentally focused on the having and maintaining of said aquarium (often in a supposedly leisurely but also completely serious and sedately obsessive manner).

so she gets really into it, and is encouraged by her sorority sisters (who are having fun naming and making up back stories for all the different fishies), and yes i guess she also grows attached to the fish (but this isn't the story of a bunch of fish not getting eaten, ok, she doesn't eat those fish, those fish are no longer for eating, but she still eats plenty of fish whenever she gets the chance, at restaurants and at her parents' house i assume, fish are still being eaten, she does not end up a reformed former fish-eater). oh, and then she goes on to write her senior thesis (? or class thesis or. some final project paper thing) on the fish (or on her aquarium ecosystem? something to do with aquariums), and she decorates her graduation cardboard hat thing with a little finding nemo plushie sewn on.

*GASPS FOR BREATH* (no no wait. ***GULPS LIKE A GUPPY*** hah!) anyway this all happened several years before i even met this woman whose name i don't remember at a college halloween party, but the reason i know this backstory is we had both had too much halloween punch and i asked her "so what are you studying" and she started telling me about how she was in the final year of getting her PhD in Marine Conservation

99% of the time, absolutely. I appreciate them so much, and want to express that, even if I'm a little overwhelmed and just end up saying "Thanks so much for reading!" Sometimes, however, if the comment strikes me as really negative or is trying to start some kind of debate that I don't want to get involved in, I'll just mark as read and move on.

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

I don't really write angsty endings! (Usually just angsty middles, and third act twists...) Probably my Veronica Mars fic, We Do Not Flinch, because even though the ending is definitely hopeful, not everything is fixed and the character death is not erased.

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Um, basically all of them tbh! I love and reliably provide a happy ending. I guess I'll say Each Step Closer (On Our Way Together) because the whole thing is pretty light and the last section extra so.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

Intellectually I know the answer is no. But I have gotten criticism, perhaps validly, about my portrayal of Peggy's emotions in Woman Borne, and also have gotten comments which express frustration with the choices my characters make, and that does feel hurtful in certain ways.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Ehhhhh, very, very lightly. Pretty much just gauzy linguistics and minimal mention of actual body parts - soulmate smut 🤷‍♀️

10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?

Haha, I've written a bunch of AUs that borrow from other fandoms and have a lot of fun with those, but I've only written one partially completed Buffy/Bones crossover

I think that some of my fics have been included in the kind of automatic sweeps that republish on fake fic sites or ebook sites, but not by an actual person as far as I know.

Reminder: What Peaches allegedly went through is horrible, if true, but that does not excuse him from what he did to Rosa. As an autistic person, his and Lio’s actions remind me of downright horrible bullies I’ve dealt with (I am not a victim of bullying, at least in the traditional sense, but it’s a long story.) and it’s deplorable the way they treated her.

Peaches has called people the r slur, and another derogatory term for an autistic person based on the word aspergers (I have my own issues with the term itself anyway) and clearly enjoyed what he did to Rosa. In some of the audio recordings he released, he did show remorse for what he did to Rosa, however, he went into those conversations with Lio with the intent of recording and publicising it to throw Lio under the bus. I was only vaguely aware of the Rosa call before, and Lio had given me weird vibes, but I always excuses his behaviour with “oh, well, they’re predators, who cares if he’s mean to predators?” But nope, turns out he just treats everyone like shit. And that’s the thing with these moral grandstanding people. They channel their anger into self-proclaimed righteousness to avoid being seen as the unhinged mf they are. Nah. Fuck ableists. Fuck this shit.

Deplorable behaviour. To think it took 3 hours for anyone to say anything. Everyone who was in that call should be ashamed of themselves, even if they were silent. You’re an enabler.

Out of the Attic, by V.C. Andrews

...except it's actually ghost-written by Andrew Neiderman because the real Virginia Andrews has been dead since 1986 and this book came out in 2020. It is also just... not very good.

Spoilers ahead.

TW: rape, abusive relationship, controlling behaviour

Out of the Attic is a tie in to the popular Dollanganger series by Virginia Andrews, the first book of which was Flowers in the Attic, which was published in 1979. Andrews wrote 5 books for the series before she passed away, and then in 2014 the series was revived for another 6 books by ghost writers hired by the family. Out of the Attic is the 10th book written for the series, but chronologically takes place before Flowers in the Attic and focuses on Corrine Foxworth, Malcolm Foxworth's mother, as she marries into the family and has her son.

I think Neiderman was aiming to make Corrine a more likeable and relatable character by having her be married into the family against her will and feel isolated and alone as she is whisked away from the family and friends she's known all her life and taken to live in the grand and unwelcoming Foxworth hall. She is plied with alcohol and raped by Garland Foxworth, which results in a pregnancy that means she has to marry Garland or face ruin.

She obviously marries him, and things are going well at first but soon end up with her all alone in this huge house, sections of which she is too scared to go into, and with an infant son that she feels no maternal connection to. Corrine spends five years rattling around doing pretty much nothing but shopping, keeping up with the latest fashions, and making herself look beautiful every day whilst a nanny raises her son, whom she by now actively dislikes, until one day she meets a woman whilst out shopping who says she should join their ladies club.

Corrine then finds out Garland is cheating on her, goes to a Halloween party dressed as a nun, takes her son and the nanny to the beach, hires an artist she met at the Halloween party to paint her portrait, has an affair with said artist (his name is Beau and he seems very nice), gets raped by Garland again, then flees to France with Beau where she discovers that she's pregnant with Garland's child. The end, thank god.

Now, on reading that brief summary you may be thinking 'yeah, that doesn't sound like a very fun life, I feel like I could sympathise with this character', but the way that Corrine is written and portrayed really just makes you dislike her. You sympathise with her in some aspects, where in others you're just sort of left thinking she's actually a horrible person.

Take her relationship with her son, for instance; Corrine believes that Malcolm is evil and conniving and and manipulative. He misbehaves, he tries to wriggle his way out of punishments, and he asks questions and keeps pestering her for things.

Malcolm is also 4 years old.

Now, I'm not particularly fond of young children myself, so I understand her not wanting to be around him 24/7 or finding him a bit overwhelming at times. However, I don't think calling this behaviour 'evil' is quite correct. All 4-year-olds ask a ton of questions, all 4-year-olds will try to escape punishment for things they've done, all 4-year-olds will pester you to go places and do things, especially if you've promised them such things earlier in the week (Corrine is on several occasions annoyed by Malcolm asking to go to the seaside... after she herself suggested they go to the seaside but didn't tell him when that would happen).

I know that Malcolm Foxworth grows up to be the grandfather of the Dollanganger children who are then locked in the attic (and Neiderman even tries to foreshadow that by having him very briefly lock Corrine in the attic in this book) so Neiderman is obviously trying to plant the seeds of a very disturbed person, but it's like the man has never met a toddler before. We're supposed to be on Corrine's side, to look at Malcolm and say 'ah, so he's always been evil and bad', but Malcolm just isn't ; he's just a child who's a little bit spoilt. The most 'evil' things he does are destroy a wedding photograph album belonging to his mother (which certainly isn't good behaviour but children have definitely done worse), and lock her in the attic... when she's chasing him round the house threatening to beat him with a belt for destroying the album. This woman is not likeable.

Obviously it goes without saying that a book character doesn't have to be morally good in order to be a compelling and interesting point of view character, but the framing of the book so often seems like it's trying to portray her in a positive light that it just... I don't know. It doesn't feel very good to read. We don't linger on Corrine's trauma or her feelings of loneliness or isolation long enough to develop as much sympathy for her as I think the author would like. There's quite a bit of telling and not much showing.

Also, Neiderman is very 'men writing women' in places. There's a lot of hot flushes rushing to breasts of course, but also there's... this???

I was disappointed at how excited I was and how quickly my pride and indignation had weakened, my fury and determination along with them. I was more than willing to do that than ever I had bee, but right now all I could think was What's in those boxes?

So yeah, apparently women will disregard their own safety for shiny presents. This, by the way, is when she's going to confront him about cheating on her.

Overall, a thoroughly mediocre reading experience that I do not recommend to anyone. If you liked Flowers in the Attic then this will just annoy you and taint your memories of it, and if you've never read the Dollanganger books then there's no point in picking it up because nothing substantial happens in it!

In like 2017 I was a huge tradgoth poser like I swore I was tradgoth after getting into the music and seeing the pics on tumblr. And there’s a wonderful darkwave postpunk cover scene on YouTube, lots of amazing covers, and this is how I stumbled upon a William Control, total fucking running up that hill viral tiktok cover goof. (Clarify, I hated him then too)

Fast forward to last night. I have been enjoying the song 1963 by New Order and thought about what a great cover song this would be, so I hop on YouTube to enjoy some amateur covers.

There pops up William Control and his cover. I recalled what a dweeb this person is and went to his profile to make fun of him in my mind. 4 years ago he made a series of videos addressing sexual abuse allegations, 3 individual videos concerning 3 women. The comment section was about as insane as Quora Digest emails. One that stuck in my mind was somebody saying the woman sexually abused was “breaking the sacred tenants of BDSM” by not being a “good submissive” or something to that effect

In the comments (I could not watch these videos for more than a couple of minutes) I found out that William Control had a wife and son at the time these allegations came up! I also learned that he read out private texts between he and the women involved IN the video, and who knows what the texts he didn’t read said, right? Well his fans are completely on his side. The men, saying they’ve been in similar situations and “found out who their real friends are”, apparently who stuck by their side after they’d raped somebody. The women, that they “understand BDSM and kink” and they’d let William Control wreck them. That was pretty gross. Hard to believe there’s people like this.

Another video from 4 years ago immediately following his “Concerning (woman’s) lies” series or whatever the titles were, was a video with the same format, called “Concerning William Control” and it was a 1 hour video of him talking about his life and what led him to be Such A Bad Boy. One of the more admittedly hilarious aspects was that all of the thumbnails he chose were him posted in a way he assumed would be sexy to his fans. Edgar Allen Poe portrait visible in the foreground. To this day, he is still releasing music and still a complete douchebag. You can see for yourself if you like. That’s about all unless you wanted to watch the videos or stroll the comment section. Recent Reads

1. The Disaster Tourist: ⭐️⭐️⭐️

An interesting and thought provoking plot that introduced and explored a range of perspectives on what, I hope, is the no-longer-shadowy world of disaster tourism. I was impressed with the simplicity and ease with which the protagonist and reader were quickly immersed in vividly precarious world. It was both strange and disturbingly real. It was somewhat predictable, but there were a number of well developed characters considering the length of the story, and though I’m not normally a fan of ambiguity, it made a pleasant change to confront a protagonist whose fate/motivations/character are never explicitly revealed or judged. The reader is left to draw their own conclusions, to evaluate their own opinions.

2. Redhead by the Side of the Road: ⭐️⭐️⭐️

A slow one, but poignant and, for me, definitely one that resonated personally. A powerful, bittersweet, but ultimately hopeful ending, which honestly... I needed. The characters made the novel, and though I don’t think this book is for everyone, I found warmth and humour and understanding in Tyler’s words that make me want to read more of her work.

3. Things we Say in the Dark: ⭐️⭐️⭐️

A really fun seasonal read with a unique and compelling and clever structure. I genuinely can’t choose a favourite story/section; I found the collection to be very cohesive and consistently strong. Logan is a skilled writer easily able to inspire fear, dread, anxiety, disgust, and a host of other heart-pounding sensations. I chose to rate it as I did purely because I felt the tropes and tone were too familiar, though I suspect this has more to do with me becoming slightly desensitised and needing to increase the diversity of my reading choices - or at least switch more frequently between genres. That being said, I really want to read more of Logan’s books!

4. The Death of Vivek Oji: ⭐️⭐️

Struggling to articulate exactly why, but this just... didn’t sit well with me. There was some wonderful explorations of themes such as loyalty, honesty, identity, and family, but it was heavy. Bleak. I understand that stories like this are important, necessary, and that we cannot always have happy or even hopeful endings, but I’ve read too many similar tragedies. There was no payoff for the emotional investment, and it’s difficult to invest in the first place when you know the fate of the protagonist from the beginning, and the protagonist seems... content with that fate? Maybe I just read this at the wrong time. (Pro tip: don’t read sad books when you’re sad!)

5. Ghosted: ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Some wonderful character development throughout, and definitely made a significant emotional impact. I do feel that the story drew on slightly longer than necessary, but the reader was kept guessing and I was happy enough to follow the clues and reflect on the myriad relationships and characters offered.

6. White Ivy: ⭐️⭐️

I was disappointed by this book, which had such a promising premise, and started so strongly! Yang is, no doubt, a skilled writer, but it was challenging to persist with a story in which none of the characters seemed to have any notable, let alone likeable, traits. The pacing felt off, and I found myself wanting to skim through most of the book whilst other significant moments seemed to be passed over without making the impact they could have. Though it wasn’t a bad read, it didn’t feel like anything new or remarkable.

7. Earthlings: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Ok, so this book is definitely not for everyone, and anyone picking it up expecting another Convenience Store Woman is... in for a shock™️! Please research content/trigger warnings before reading! Heartbreaking and heartwarming and disturbing and, yes, gross, this will satisfy your need for something strange. It was a good palette cleanser (or warper) after some underwhelming and sluggish recent reads, and left me with a not-unpleasant out of body sensation wondering wtf I’d just read. Simply put, this was my jam.

8. Our Wives Under the Sea: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

First, a very unrelated note: I read and finished this in the course on one stormy, muggy night which definitely set The Mood™️. I’m not quite sure how to discuss this book. Armfield has captured the sea itself: something vast and unfathomable, changeable, consuming, incomprehensible, and primordial. Dreamy and viscerally, elementally haunting, Our Wives is surreal, horror adjacent, but hits in a very tangible way. I personally loved the style, and the dual perspective and relatively short chapters made what could have been a slow read a very easy one. Through a fantastical lens, Armfield invites us to explore ideas about relationships, communication, trauma, and grief, loss, and reality. A lot is up for interpretation, and I think you could find something new in this book with every re-read.

9. Becoming My Sister: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Okay, so on the scale of ‘normal’ to ‘introduced to V. C. Andrews at a wildly inappropriate age by a mother who clearly had no memory of the book she’d just given her daughter, and no way to anticipate the oncoming obsession’, it’s pretty clear where I fall. Personally I’ve never been disappointed by an Andrews book, and this one was no exception. The writing is witty and thrilling and subtly eerie, and Andrews is absolutely fantastic at drawing the reader into the grip of twisted, claustrophobic family dynamics. Her characters are lifelike, haunted and haunting. She has a singular understanding of the pain and beauty of girlhood, womanhood, and coming of age. I would almost describe this as a ‘guilty pleasure’ read but honestly I’m not sorry. No shame.

10. Ghosts: ⭐️⭐️

Such a promising premise, and so many elements I can usually connect with, but... I think this is just a story I’m tired of reading. It was vague/disconnected and judgemental in a way that reduced the impact of the book overall, at least for me. There was little to humanise or identify in the protagonist (or indeed most of the characters), and I felt the most interesting aspects of the book were not given the focus they deserved, both of which meant key emotional moments fell flat for me. I think for the right person, at the right time, this is a beautiful and moving story; that person just wasn’t me.

Not counting lands and unique prints, at the time of this answer, there are 23,156 Magic: The Gathering cards registered on Scryfall, with many more sets soon to come.

Anyway, let's start with Alesha, Who Smiles at Death. She's our canon trans woman and she chose her name after killing a dragon, naming herself after her grandmother. She also turned a transphobe into a staunch ally in the course of her story. We love to see a girlboss win, and I mean that unironically.

As a card, she is a 3 power, 2 toughness Red First Striker for 3 energy. Whenever she attacks, you can pay 2 White, 2 Black, or a mix of the two colors to return a weaker creature (power 2 or less) from the graveyard to the battlefield tapped and attacking. Her flavor text is a quote of hers, saying "Greet death with sword in hand."

So naturally, I would make her the focus of a spell to ease a trans woman's dysphoria. Since she's a Legendary Creature, I feel safe saying that one would call upon her (treating her as a spirit or archetype) for courage to exist as one's true self and protection from transphobes.

As we've established, I love me some good rocks, but let's play around with plants and other things for this. We really only need one Red energy (so the other two can be generic), so let's go for cactus spines for an offensive protection. For the other two, how about a candle in a gender-affirming color for the dysphoria relief and uhhhh does red pepper for courage make sense? I don't know, I don't use plants. Anyway, a triple-dose of Red energy would be more than enough to fuck up anyone that looks at a trans woman sideways.

Now, let's talk about Fey Steed. This was one of the Elks that made me almost make my Elk deck tri-color (RIP double-Oko, Thief of Crowns; you and your 3/3 Green Elk army will be missed). It's a 4 power, 4 toughness White creature for 4 energy (a double-White with 2 generic). When it attacks, another attacking creature you control becomes Indestructible until end of turn. When a creature or planeswalker you control becomes the target of a spell or ability an opponent controls, you have the option to draw a card.

Now, this is a tricky one, because I have trouble with White energy. I've always struggled with it. And I don't want to keep pumping out protection-based stuff, so let's give the Elk a gun.

So someone done fucked with you and your buddies. You may or may not want to harm them, but then you think it would be even funnier to bless everyone around them instead so they're left wondering why their own luck sucks in comparison. So get yourself some kind of deer/elk memorabilia (farm supply stores often have little animal statues, start there), some blessing plants (rosemary? rice? I don't know, I don't do plants, but those are both White-aligned), and you light them fuckers up and wave the animal statue in the smoke. Then you tell your little deer or elk (or delk, or perhaps eer) to go bless everyone around that person but not them, and you put that little toy somewhere safe so it can work in peace. Outside of your house? By a window? Who knows! I don't! I'm a wizard on the internet, I don't live in your house!

So now you've got this little magic animal that's hitting everyone except the jackass with Blessing Bullets. Fuck yeah, Elks.

10 characters game

I've seen this tag game going around where you list your favorite 10 characters in 10 different fandoms. Not being tagged has literally never stopped me. So I play! Uhm, there is a very unmistakable theme. 😅

Captain Kathryn Janeway: Star Trek: Voyager To say she had a huge impact on bb! Jenn is an understatement. I remember being so excited for the first female Captain. And she's stern but fair. Compassionate but still able to make the tough calls. Is it a little weird that I look to her as a role model for leadership? Eh, we all know I'm a weird person.

2. Lina Inverse: The Slayers One of my all-time favorites! Lina is a violent, no-nonsense-taking sorceress with a love of fireballs. She's also so powerful and cares so much about her people. She's mostly good with a love of mischief and I adore her.

3. Dana Scully: The X-Files Bb! Jenn had the biggest crush on her. (Not that I understood that.) There is something about a confident, tough-as-nails woman. And I loved her commitment to science and logical explanations. My favorite episodes were always the ones that left you wondering if it was supernatural or just interpreted that way.

4. Ms. Parker: The Pretender Confident. Morally ambiguous. Uses anger to disguise deep, deep hurt. (Did I have a huge crush on her too? Listen. Maybe.) Her relationships were so complex, and she was so fun.

5. Bela Talbot: Supernatural Morally ambiguous conwoman? Yes, please. Please. I adored her so much. (Have you guessed the theme here yet?)

6. Madeleine: La Femme Nikkita Co-head of Section One. Another morally ambiguous woman. Another powerful woman. Confident. Very tragic past. (Oh man, this bit will mean nothing but I just realized she killed her sister, much like a character from another show I love, and I'm having parallel thoughts. Ahem.)

7. Nikita: Nikita Tough as nails spy who's hellbent on taking down the organization that wrongly enslaved her and forced her to kill her love? Uhm, yes, yes yes. This time I was old enough to know how hard I was crushing. But can you even blame me?

8. Rachel: The Animorphs Another complex, morally ambiguous young woman. It has always been very difficult for me to choose a favorite in this series. Her best friend Cassie and her cousin Jake are also my favorites. Her arc is so devastating and tragic that it sort of sneaks into first place for today.

9. Oliva Armstrong: Fullmetal Alchemist

This one was hard because also I love Riza Hawkeye to pieces. But Oliva is the hardened General and I just. I have to. I adore her too.

10. Lydia Martin: Teen Wolf Another difficult decision with a lot of characters falling in a close second. I really adore the play on the mean girl trope. And her arcs in s2 and s3a just especially get to me. She's again tough and confident. And I love her.

Bonus: Xena: Xena Warrior Princess

I never really was in the fandom, but bb me had a crush. (Could this read anymore like a 90s bb should have figured out she was queer so much sooner than she did list??) I've recently been half-considering a rewatch. I mostly got to watch this on Saturday nights when I stayed up too late and the night was clear enough to get the station in with our giant rotator antennae.

I actually have quite a list of muses that I wanted to play since it almost feels like not a lot of people are in the Naruto fandom and this simple Kabuto blog is just hanging on. And it's getting harder to find rp partners that are active or not problematic. Or someone you had a bad history with in the past. But for me, believe it or not, I became a Kabuto blog because there wasn't any around in the past and I wanted to step in to fill that gap of wanted characters. So this question is pretty much a personal wishlist that I one day might do if I ever get the motivation or time for it.

No. 1 Danzo Shimura

Need me to say anything more other than that there's absolutely no Danzo rpers around anymore and how I know sooooo many people would just LOVE to have one to rp the angst and the drama with. But I never really have the confidence to rp such a complicated character and the rather HUGE expectations and high amounts of time and research of rping them well. I also would LOVE to explore the whole ROOT activities and the rp scenarios too.

No. 2 Kisame Hoshigaki

Kisame has always been a favorite character of mine and their personality and deep backstory is so amazingly well done that I once wanted to rp the character and add in all of the hilarious dark humour jokes and his casual friendliness towards his enemies. But again, it's my lack of confidence of rping them right, and I'm more worried about rping him ship wise since I really have no idea what he would be into and tbh I still personally see the kisaita ship as one of friendly kind.

3. Orochimaru

Ah Orochimaru. Such a fandom menace that just the mention of their name would evoke several reactions in all kinds of people and the type of reactions speak volumes on the people who like/dislike them! I have been thinking of rping them as a way to help me cope with being hurt by an Orochimaru at some point in my life and for me to become said character in my own version would perhaps help me cope with that. But one major issue is that I will have to admit that being aware of Orochimaru's non-binary status, I often make several if not too many mistakes of mispronouncing or forgetting to add the pronouns and despite that I have improved and am getting used to saying They/them, I do however make mistakes every now and then. (right now, I'm literally having to reread this entire section to avoid saying "he/him" to avoid upsetting anyone. O_o) Another thing is that since I'm a straight woman with she/her pronouns, I'm not sure... if I would be able to fully understand Orochimaru's character well enough to rp them correctly. And I'm also one of the very few who is not down with calling Orochimaru a "queen" when they're really just... "parent" and an awesome scientist. But hey, they're doing an amazing job being an impressive single parent too!

On the other hand, I would LOVE to understand and roleplay out their way of thinking and the madness behind their choices and to explore their god plex would be so fun to do! And of course the parenting of Mitsuki would be fun too! ;_;

No. 4 Obito Uchiha/Tobi

XD Why else since he's also like third of my favorite characters and in other chat rooms, I have rped the character and it is hilarious to rp Tobi messing around with people so much! But I know full well that there's so much more to the character and seeing other Obito rpers rp them so amazingly, I rather am content with just watching and reading the replies than doing it myself. XD

No. 5 One of the many characters from the Final Fantasy 7 game

Not gonna lie, my main reason for my silence is because I have been getting into the game and observing the rpers who rp the characters and they're all so interesting that I lowkey wish that I could join in with the interaction. But at the same time, I've only been a fan after playing the remake and then playing the old 1997 game to fully understand the game and the story so I'm pretty much "not a real fan" if that's all I have done but it is an interest that I would like to rp with the folks there for the hell of it. I'm just... being an anon in the meantime. It's a shame that I never had the PS1 as a kid to really give this game the love it deserves.

2. Is there a trope you’ve yet to try your hand at, but really want to?

I was thinking of the answer to this one all day and I think my answer would be enemies to lovers as a narrative trope? Ik that type of trope is so popular but i've never tried it before insofar as one character being 'good' and one being 'evil'. Have done two evil people being perfectly evil together loads of times but I think it could be really fascinating to write the headspace of a person who has had something heinous done to them by the person they end up falling in love with. Like how that harm is rationalised would be hard for me to write and that's part of the challenge.

On a kink level i really want to try writing a very successful and prolonged edging fic lol like to the point where the characters are in tears. That could be fun. love to make my characters weep.

3. Is there a trope you wouldn’t touch with a ten foot pole?

Honestly i don't think there is one? I prefer not to read rape but do if it's by an author i like. i feel like i don't have strong feelings against any type of fic really. like i'm not gonna go out of my way to read a fluffy cafe au but if that's all that exists in the fandom then yeah i'll read it ya know.

4. How many fic ideas are you nurturing right now? Care to share one of them?

I am trying not to write too much fic because i'm meant to be writing my original novel which i keep saying is almost done (and it will stay almost done if i don't work on it lol). So i've only got 1 fic in the works atm which is another soulwax fic where the brothers have a threesome with erol alkan. it's literally just a pwp but i'm writing it so that steph is very Gender with like, wearing a breastplate and looking hot af as a woman and ticking all of dave's boxes. and erol is there too lol.

other than that i have a vague sort of idea of a nick/jay fic i want to potentially write, set when they were in their early 20s, early pond days, wild days. i have no idea what will happen yet except that it will be very sun drenched and warm, might be set at rock pools at a beach. i think there should be dark red blood too, like maybe nick's been punched in the nose or mouth or something and jay's sitting there with him. so it's tenderness and care but also should include smut and i think to write it i need to listen to The Weather from start to finish!

8. Share a snippet from one of your favorite dialogue scenes you’ve written and explain why you’re proud of it.

Oh this is so hard. I feel like dialogue is the hardest thing to write and also most of my fics are pretty light with dialogue. I think more recently i've been writing threesomes which requires more talking so i'm using a more recent example, one that you've already read! I don't know if i'm proud of this for the right reasons but i am proud of this section of What happens in Ibiza, stays in Ibiza:

 “Maybe I should rephrase the question,” Tiga says. “Would a sudden, traumatic death make you stop being involved in music altogether?”

   Steph looks at him quizzically. “Are you plotting something Tiga?”

   “No, no,” Tiga laughs. He withdraws his foot and clasps his hands around his feet, balancing the beer on the cushion on the seat. “I’ve just been thinking about… Well I think we’ve talked about this before but remember how at Pukkelpop 2010 there was the Ou Est le Swimming Pool death?”

   “Charles Haddon, yeah,” Steph says. 

   “Yeah exactly. And that same year, that same festival, there was another death.”

   “Michael Been of The Call,” Dave fills in, “Sound engineer for his son’s band Black Rebel Motorcycle Club who were performing there.”

   “That’s right, heart attack,” Tiga says. He’s always so impressed by Dave and Steph’s memory. Anything to do with music, to do with the people and their stories behind music, they’ll know it and remember it like they were read as bedtime stories. “Yeah, and then was it the same year with the storm? There was a storm that uprooted a stage and killed a bunch of crew.”

   “It was the year after,” Steph clarifies. 

It's not particularly interesting prose but the reason why i am so proud of this is literally because i got to tie in my music factoid about 2 people dying at the same 2010 belgian festival that soulwax/2manydjs actually played at!! like the levels of connections here, wowee... for context i wrote a fic years and years ago which was about if the main cast of Netflix's Daredevil were in a rock band and if the rock band was Black Rebel Motorcycle Club (BRMC). The way i wrote that fic was to use the key events that happened across the history of BRMC and integrated that with the Daredevil story and characters. so i'd done so much research about the trajectory of BRMC, what gigs they'd played, what important events happened, etc. And even though i never actually got up to publishing the parts i’d written about BRMC’s 2010 era, it stuck with me that one of the band member’s dad had died at pukkelpop. That fact always interested me so much because like, 2 key people died and the festival still went on?? and all this other freaky shit happened after it like a super intense storm that killed a bunch of stage hands and idk it just seems like the Haunted festival. so anyway, to be able to name drop another couple of bands i liked (BRMC & ou est le swimming pool) into my ridiculous 2manydjs/tiga fic was a fun little music nerd moment for me. it also felt very like... in character for 2manydjs being music nerds themselves.

Happy Pride Month.

As such, I'd like to make a recommendation of a game I feel has great LGBTQ representation, that's written by LGBTQ people: NOISZ STΔRLIVHT, available on iOS and Android.

You play as the Producer for the idol group STΔRLIVHT. As musicians around the world are suddenly disappearing, STΔRLIVHT nearly finds themselves meeting the same fate, until a mysterious woman named Beyond grants them the power of the NOISZ.

The group members strength their bonds, fight musical monsters from another world, and learn more about the complexities of each other's lives.

It's a bullet-hell rhythm game, consisting of 4-key (aka 4k) sections cut between (and on higher difficulties, overlapped with) moving your character around the screen to dodge bullets.

The game has a variety of queer characters (although those whose existence/queerness are spoilers will not be mentioned).

Sera and Grace are two members of the main idol group and are playable characters in battle. They're also dating and have been since the end of middle school. They have a kind, supportive relationship where Sera's extreme ambitiousness (leading to getting overwhelmed) is supported by Grace's kindness. Grace's extreme selflessness is supported by Sera's powerful affection. They complement each other well.

They have two love songs: Done in Love by Iris, and First Star by Synthion, the latter of which is the tutorial song. Both are available as charts, but they do cost money for the Clover Club Pass and Dia Club Pass respectively.

The beginning of Sera and Grace's relationship is the central focus on the prequel visual novel game 2ECONDS TO STΔRLIVHT: Forever My Diamond, which is available on Steam, and on mobile as part of the free prequel VN 2ECONDS TO STΔRLIVHT+.

There are recurring event alts in which Sera and Grace wear each other's casual clothes, and honestly, I love that so much. Good for them.

Hakuno is canonically a trans woman, this fact being the central plot point of her and Sumire's prequel visual novel 2ECONDS TO STΔRLIVHT: My Heart's Reflection. A heads-up about MHR, the game does depict transphobia, misgendering, and family confrontation and does give warnings for it on boot-up. There is an option to obscure misgendering language; however, this only censors out incorrect pronouns/gendered terms with asterisks.

Grace's, Sera's, and Hakuno's queerness are directly mentioned very early in the main game's story, too, during Chapter 0.IV.

The game doesn't shy away from these aspects when it's relevant to the plot, but that also isn't the entire point (unfortunately, I can't name said most central focus, as I'd consider it a spoiler). The story juggles a few main threads throughout, and some of those happen to focus on queerness.

There is representation outside of STΔRLIVHT, too: Rhyme (who is sapphic), Han (who is non-binary but doesn't show up in-person after MHR), and even the Producer herself can be sapphic if you select the option in which she comes out to STΔRLIVHT.

The representation is well-written, but that's a natural side effect of the story overall being very good. There are a lot of details that lend well to analysis, and some lines with very clear double-meaning that I fangirl over every time I see them. The characters all feel nuanced, even the antagonists. I don't know how to encapsulate what I like about the story, but I think the writing style and content work well for what it's trying to do, I'll say.

The way it builds on the lore established in the original NOISZ and the re:||VERSE DLC is very interesting, too. It very much messes with your expectations if you've played the original NOISZ, but then your knowledge comes in handy for understanding the plot later on. The connections are fascinating, in both how clear some are and how unclear others are. I'm excited for how the second half of the story will wrap things up.

The game is also very fun outside overall, and that's another reason I recommend it. The bullet hell and rhythm game work together very well, and there's a lot of fun, creative charting. Stellar song selection too, especially for an indie game, with a great pool of originals (although access to many of those is paywalled). Got some absolutely great musicians on for that like Camellia, Synthion, Iris, Soleily, Nhato, and Reku Mochizuki.

Anyway, that's what I wanted to say.

Today is another dip into the well of my Drafts folder, pulling up a post I had started working on in 2013 I think. I like the idea so much that I'll even include an updated version of this particular game afterward.

Oh good. It's that guy who messages me in a strangely familiar way 3 or 4 times a month, in spite of the fact that I've never communicated with him except perhaps to politely turn him down. I decide to take a look at his profile, to see if maybe I can get a clue as to why he persists.

He's 15 years older than me, only a 65% match (23% enemy, which is the part that concerns me). His profile pictures all involve him fishing, golfing, shooting, or at least wearing athletic apparel - all chosen to make him look more youthful and active.

His profile itself is rambling and sometimes incoherent with its lack of punctuation and formatting. The first line has him claiming that he's "not your typical guy", which is my second least-favorite thing to hear. He lists off a lot of sports that he enjoys, and uses the phrase "on like Donkey Kong".  He misspells the names of several actors and bands that he claims to enjoy, and finds a way to mention golf in every single section of his profile.

He has answered no more than 50 questions, so it is nearly impossible to tell if the Match Percentage is even accurate. The age range of girls that he's looking for extends 11 years below - but only 5 years above - his own. He claims to be looking for "active fun adventures", but every single one of the eight similar users that OkCupid recommends to me as I'm viewing his profile is listed as more adventurous.

I close his profile, knowing he'll send another message next week.
