chapter summary: your father celebrated his birthday while Satoru kept up appearances. after the celebration, an unwelcome face shows up in your life again.

8. Reunions

The next morning had finally arrived and it was time to get through one of your least favourite time of the year; a family celebration.

You dreaded spending time with your family during certain types of events. Birthdays, celebrations and national holidays all made up those times and each moment spent with your folks felt all the more bleaker than the last.

It was never a simple congratulations with a gift parted away, but it was rather taken seriously, as though you had a script to follow along and play your part right, lest it all came undone.

Just as you had feared also, your parents momentarily paused in their tracks when they spotted you exiting the guest house along with Satoru in tow but they never once referenced it when you were back inside the family home.

This both relieved you, but also scared you.

Satoru immediately found himself separated from you as the two of you were given things to do right away. Both you and your mother took on the bulk of the responsibilities as your father sat himself down with Satoru in his company, curious to talk to the guy.

Every time it came to celebrating anything at all, your father would resign his responsibilities and hand them all off to the women of the household, a certain type of repeated condition that cycled through your mother’s birthday as well as your own.

Opting out of celebrating either was not an option.

As such, you grew to resent your father for his continued silence within the house. Whether it was proven by words or actions, it remained abundantly clear just how he viewed the family dynamic.

Satoru, otherwise to his credit, did offer to help out as he claimed to be skillful when it came to preparing at least sweet things if that’s something that needed help but your father was quick to whisk him away, reminding him of the important of a well maintained household balance.

You wanted to say something about that but you found yourself biting your tongue as you resisted the urge to tell your father off for being too old fashioned.

You knew that Satoru’s mind wouldn’t be swayed so easily, but you still worried about how this all looked for you. On you.

It was a thought that quickly went away as you prepared the food with your mother instead in a strained albeit comfortable silence. Your relationship with your mother wasn’t the best, but you were a reflection of her in many ways. It left you wondering if you had similar dreams, stifled away by a common hindrance.

Occasional small talk would surface but beyond that point, the conversation remained dry. At times she would attempt to thread through the seams by asking you how you’re settling into the city, how you’re finding life by yourself—only for the string to never seal itself off again, leaving a lot left unsaid instead.

And after everything was finally ready and prepped to go, you excused yourself upstairs to change into something a little more suitable for the occasion. Satoru had also been encouraged to do the exact same.

You wore a dress for the event; it was a lot different than the one that Suguru gave you but it was much better fitting for the occasion at hand. A dusty sage green midi dress with semi long sleeves capping at the elbows, decorative buttons and cinching along the waist with long flowy skirting.

Satoru didn’t have to comment, he could have kept as quiet as Suguru did but he couldn’t resist in doing so anyway. His eyes scrolled over your body in a similar sort of way to his friend, but it didn’t feel as strangely looming.

“You look good,” he simply said as he sported something slightly more formal himself. His smile felt genuine as his tone possessed something flirty, however keeping himself in check around the company of your parents.

It didn’t take too long for the rest of your relatives to arrive either, quickly filling out the once quiet house with the drone of chatter instead. A combination of rarely seen aunts and uncles along with the nieces and nephews that scurried around the house as well as your one remaining grandparent.

In total, it was a crowd of an additional eight.

Satoru continued to play his part as he promised; borrowing the spotlight away from you and standing within it instead. He got along criminally well with the chattier aunts, gifting you some breathing room in the process.

He didn’t really mind doing so either, it’s what he promised you, after all.

The relief continued to settle as the dinner finally passed with the relatives that now made their way back home. The secondary comfort being that the worst to come was now finally over and you could be back in the city quite soon again.

Satoru quickly reunited with you as the day came to an end, not saying much to your parents as they retreated back upstairs for the evening.

“We should probably go and find that plum wine for Shoko, right?” he asked, pausing a little as he spoke, it was evening by now and this wasn’t a big town so he wondered if there was any time to begin with, “…If the shops aren’t closed, that is?”

“It’s the brewery in town that sells it,” you replied to him, “everything else is closed but they’re open up quite late.”

“Then that’s what we’ll do.” he smiled, feeling comfortable once again. He hoped to lift your spirits even if you were on the verge of feeling burnt out, grabbing onto your wrist and leading you outside.

You didn’t protest this a second time, figuring that some fresh air would be good for you.

The walk to the brewery took a little longer and by the time you got closer to the town square, the sun had already started to set, leaving the settlement basking in a warm orange glow as a thick floral scent wafted in the air.

Satoru personally found himself enjoying the quieter parts of your personality, walking alongside you just because. It was because of the comfort he felt around you that he stopped himself taking things too far, too soon.

Upon reaching the inner town where the supposed bustle usually was, it now seemed closer to being a ghost town rather than what you were used to further down in the country.

You guided Satoru into the brewery, leading him into an almost out of place looking interior—large wooden barrels filling out the interior with decorative dark beams sloping against the roof creating a rustic look.

His eyes wandered around the building as he took it all in, finally settling at the menu just over the counter. The speciality looked like it was beer currently although plum wine did have a spot on there too.

There was a choice to either order to take home or drink out of glasses in the beer garden just outside.

You initially had offered to pay for the bottle because it was something Shoko asked from you specifically, but Satoru quickly stepped in on your behalf and with the bottle in tow, you decided to at least make an effort to tour him around the town while time still remained.

Not that there was much left to show off.

The most that the town had going for it was its greenery; a lush nature backdrop that grew between the cracks and seams with a few traditional buildings scattered throughout. It was pretty typical for rural Japan. Nostalgia unintentionally hit you as you walked through the streets, throwing you back to when you walked around all alone, those many years ago.

Satoru didn’t seem to mind all too much, never once showing discomfort around you as you led him in and out of the many neighbourhoods.

“You know, this place is very calm, actually,” he said, filling out a moment of silence, “but it is boring, I do have to admit that much.”

“I guess it isn’t that bad if you’re either really young or really old, but just not so much in between,” you replied in agreement with him.

“I’m just mostly surprised that you didn’t go insane living here,” he laughed a little, hoping to lighten things up with you. He liked seeing you smile.

“I mean, I did to an extent,” you replied with a bitter smile, “the town itself is fine, it’s just the people in-“

You then froze.

It was as if you had manifested the devil herself; the brief peace that you had experienced seeming to have quickly evaporated—something, someone familiar approaching you to take you back to hell.

You gulped as you surrendered, suddenly shying away and attempting to take a different route down the road instead. This however was quickly caught on by Satoru who had a different idea in mind, not wanting for you to hide from your problems for once.

Maybe the way he was going about it was wrong, since this was your battle to figure out, but he wanted to help in the ways he knew he could.

As a teacher, he wasn’t all that unfamiliar with bullying from an outside perspective, even if he did turn a blind eye to it as a teen and while you were his equal, not a student, he still felt as though it was something better to face than just ignore.

Standing up to Yui might not have been in your cards, forcing her to acknowledge her past might not work, but maybe teaching you that you could just move on from your past?

Not that it was his place but…

It wasn’t as though you were about face someone he didn’t know about, either. He could tell from your body language alone that this was the bully that you spoke of from when you had first met.

“Hey, don’t worry about it,” he assured you in a softer voice, patting your back to reinforce your folded posture once again, “nothing will happen, I won’t let it.”

In truth, he found the situation almost a little… amusing? He wasn’t a total stranger to the sway of influencial families and how they’d bend the public to their will by abusing their status in life. Seeing similar inner politics being reflected in regular civilian clans was a little strange to him, leaving him wondering exactly what type of mess this other woman was caught up in.

In the cities, sorcerer clans dominated the population. He speculated that in villages and towns, it must have been financial, some type of dominating business or simply just old money.

With that in mind, he thought that the bully in question therefore was overcompensating for something. It was likely that it was a lack of control in her life, so he she took it out on someone who had a history of not fighting back—not that he blamed you for it or anything.

The more he thought about it, the more petty he found it but he at least did get it, even if he couldn’t help but find the whole thing a little funny. For such an irrelevant town, one that he didn’t even know existed until you pointed it out on the map, to drive away its own people was hilarious to him.

What a joke.

And when this woman began to speak, he had to go the extra way to hold back stifled laughter.

“[name]! It’s been so long, hasn’t it?” Yui announced to you in a higher pitched tone, emulating some shred of care as her words feigned politeness. You wondered why this was happening, but upon seeing her eyes flick over to Satoru, you quickly understood why.

Satoru saw through this too, being completely used to this sort of person and situation. He liked attention, but he didn’t like it at the expense of others.

“Hi Yui,” you greeted in a resigned tone.

“Back in town so soon?” she asked in a forced polite voice, she wasn’t going to do anything that got her into trouble, not after the incident anyway.

“Yeah, uh, just visiting because-“ you mumbled, not wanting to indulge but you were cut off anyway.

“—sorry, but can you speak up? You’re so quiet.” she interrupted.

You swallowed away your last remaining shred of sanity, still not understanding why Satoru didn’t allow for you to just take a detour.

“It’s my dad’s birthday, so I’m in town for the weekend,” you replied with some strained added volume.

“Oh, the construction worker, right?”

“Actually he works in a facto—“

“—so, who’s your friend?” Yui asked, cutting you off once again as her intentions were finally made abundantly clear. You were the opening act for her to get closer to Satoru, thinking that a half-assed attempt of small talk would be enough to garner the attention of him.

You paused momentarily, unsure of how to actually introduce him. It was easier to go off on implications with your parents because that’s something you mulled over in your mind for a whole week, however suddenly doing so around your tormentor was a whole different story.

“He’s uh, a close friend,” you replied at long last; he was a fabricated lover, and while he did promise to play his part for you while he was here, you just couldn’t say it to her.

Satoru watched this happen from the sidelines, not wanting to interrupt unless he absolutely had to do so. He considered that he would have to talk to her soon, because his involvement was made clear.

He did find it a little disappointing that you didn’t use the boyfriend line for him though because he would have put on his best act for you.

“Oh, really…?” Yui replied, sounding almost disappointed as her eyes lit up with a new sort of flare, maintaining her friendly smile.

Yui seemed to be completely ignoring you now which you felt was strangely petty given the ages you were all currently in, since you weren’t teenagers anymore like before.

“Just a close friend?” she asked, setting her sights on Satoru next, “well if you’re ever craving some company that’s more suited to your liking, then-“

“Not a chance,” Satoru said, shutting down the attempt right away, not wanting to indulge in it any further. He could admit to being amused by the whole situation, but he didn’t harbour any interest in it all the same.

He dragged you past her as he settled on ignoring the bully instead. In his mind, you two weren’t at school anymore so regardless of what happened back then should be left behind in the past. Had Yui been more aggressive though, then maybe—but it was simple enough to just stifle her ego for now.

He could have gone further, but he didn’t.

As he walked by with you, you were left behind with some type of lingering confusion in the aftermath of things. He didn’t quite put an end to the problem at hand, but he didn’t let you dwell on it any further.

Something about this experience did manage to awake something else for him though, a sudden burst need of responsibility—feelings that were too confusing to understand right away but they were there.

What started off as him putting off his clan duties and showing off to a town he didn’t care about now simmered off into a realisation of wanting to keep you close, no matter what.

It sure felt complicated, though.

“You’re fine, right?” he spoke up after a while now that you both were far gone from the scene; feeling partial regret from making you face your past. He no longer wanted you to do so—wanting for you to move on, instead.

He didn’t like how he felt right now, it felt too familiar, almost. It was like looking into a parallel mirror as he finally understood why you hated this place so damn much.

It was a reminder that things had to be a certain way—just as his own family name emphasised the same point.

At least however, he could change the course of your life by interfering in the same way he was determined to give his students a chance at a more carefree life in spite of the life they’re forced to lead.

“Y-yeah, sorry, I-I just didn’t think I’d run into her here so soon,” you stammered in response, feeling stressed beyond belief from the encounter, thankful that you didn’t have to brave it alone, “I thought I could avoid her, but, I guess not…”

“Don’t sweat it,” he continued, forcing a smile to spread across his face as he pondered his own feelings, “nothing happened anyway, so we can just move on, right?”

“R-right,” you replied, nodding along.

Satoru sighed, he never thought anything would happen anyway. Teenagers could be needlessly cruel, but if Yui belonged to an influential family, then she would be unwise to stain the reputation in adulthood.

Feeling a little protective, he challenged an idea, not quite caring how it sounded.

“In fact,” he spoke just a little quieter than before as he drew you in by wrapping his arm around your shoulder, “she’s so irrelevant, hell, this whole town is so irrelevant that you don’t even need to think about it all again after you’re back.”

You responded with a nervous laugh in response, feeling unsure in which direction he was going exactly.

“I’m being serious, [name],” he said again, although moving away from you to gain some distance away from him, “you don’t need anyone else, not when you have me, Shoko and Suguru, so just forget about this place and never look back again.”

(And if you tried to go back, he’d stop you.)

“And my parents…?” you added to the list, still thinking he was joking.

“Nobody else,” he corrected you, feeling a little protective. He wasn’t always like this, so he felt like he really had to emphasise his point since he wasn’t joking around for once.

“I guess you might be right,” you replied as you thought about it some more; it wasn’t like you got anything out of this trip by coming to see your family, all it did was strain your relationship with your parents further.

Then again, this whole progression felt too soon—too fast, to abandon your old life in order to cling onto your new life felt unrealistic as well, no matter how much reassurance you’d get from the trio.

Was this level of attachment normal?

As you considered the implications in your mind, you slowly got used to the idea. To Satoru it seemed simple enough because you didn’t have to leave behind any crucial responsibilities, so the choice to move on was something you’d a fool to not take advantage of.

By the time you were both back at your family home, he led you back inside the guest house and didn’t do a single thing near you because he had you right where he wanted you; where he had his own hopes secured vicariously through your decision.

It wasn’t a malicious action he thought, unlike what you were feeling. This was just him looking out for you, keeping away from a place that was bad for you.

So come the next day, he rushed you out of the town as he barely gave you enough time to pack your things and to say goodbye to your very own parents, eager to get you back to what he thought to be a better life back in Tokyo.

You weren’t going to actually cut off your parents though, even if you had promised so under the spur of the moment. You were going to reduce contact instead and let them influence your decisions less.

As you sat back into the passenger seat of his car, you weren’t quite sure what you were feeling just yet.

It wasn’t quite entrapment as you felt with Suguru when he pushed your boundaries, but it wasn’t quite freedom either.

Regardless of where you went, it felt like the decision to do so was never truly your own.

My Deltarune theorist saving throw

Can you believe it guys? Deltarune! Chapters 3 and 4! Just a few days away!

So I've said a lot of stuff about Deltarune. And I'm pretty open about not being big on a prevailing fan theory. But, on the off chance said fan theory is true at all, I think I can actually thread the needle on it and my own ideas.

I've said a lot about how Kris does a bunch of stuff on their own, and what it might mean.

I've said a lot about who I think Kris is as a person themself.

I've said some stuff about their relationships with others.

So how does the notion of the player being a consciously acknowledged entity in its own right fit into all that?

Well, I initially set out to disprove the notion simply by showing how much they act on their own, plus the fact that there's strong implications that there's been some weird shit going on with them since before the beginning of the game. My idea being, if those two things are the case, then how much can they really be getting forced against their will?

Well, I still hold that they largely aren't. But the thing I realized today, is that that doesn't necessarily mean they couldn't possibly be aware of the player, and even hostile towards it.

However, the only way to really square that with the rest of my ideas is to assume that Kris, in that case, would be mistaken.

Like, they'd be correct in that they're aware of something that happens to be the player. But it's possible in that case that they're misapplying blame to the player for stuff that happened before the game even began, because they maybe can't quite parse out what weirdass soul/mental shit is happening with them clearly.

Of course, if there's weirdass soul/mental shit going on with them before we even arrive on the scene, then this also implies the dreaded "third entity," thereby inviting the common "but that would make the story too complicated" complaint I've seen on discord and reddit. And... yeah I agree. That's why I don't actually believe any of this stuff. It's just that a lot of theorists would say "that's too complicated, therefor the Player must be the only metaphysical factor involved with Kris," where I would say "that's too complicated, therefor the story isn't going to really acknowledge the Player that hard and the mystery is more what the second entity even is."

On that note, I also see a lot of responses like, taking the player explicitly out of the picture robs Kris of personality and agency because that would mean they're not the one removing the soul and opening fountains and stuff. But going with my second interpretation from the end of the previous paragraph, and my previous documents, they're showing personality and agency all the rest time when the soul isn't being removed. So I never really understood that argument. Kinda feels like it just boils down to "well I like the melodrama of them opening a fountain for their own reasons so nya." Which, I mean, fine I guess, but that might end up being an idea relegated to the realm of fanfiction pretty soon.

And a ton of that fanfiction already exists, let me tell you.

Oh and one more thing I kinda forgot in my Kris assessments, particularly their dealings with Spamton. I said they might adhere to his demands to not tell the others about what they're doing out of some sense of duty or vague fear of repercussions. However, it's possible they're at least semi-aware of potential "big picture" stuff going on in the plot, and they see someone like Spamton as, like, somebody they can maybe learn something from, even if he freaks them the fuck out. Of course, it ultimately rounds out to the same problem: them quietly shouldering burdens to the point of self-sacrifice.

Batman Unburied: Season 2 - Fallen City REVIEW

Spoiler-free Quick Review: Having enjoyed the 1st season as well as Riddler: Secrets in the Dark, I was eager to jump back into this series and was pleasantly surprised when I saw it advertised. Overall, I enjoyed Fallen City, but felt the storyline wasn't as tight as the first season. There were moments and episodes where I felt like I needed more and by the end I wasn't sure how I felt about this season overall.

Comparing it to the more serious and "gritty" live-action media like the Nolan trilogy or Reeves' The Batman is probably not fair. But if comparing it to something that might fit alongside the 90s Batman: The Animated Series or the more recent animated Batman: Cape Crusader, then I'd say this is an enjoyable addition given the similarities in style, tone, and pacing. The dialogue can be a little over-the-top or campy at times, but, again, it fits. Not all of the voice acting hits, but most of it does, especially from the core cast members.

If an "edgy" and "grounded" Batman is your thing, this may not be for you. But if you're okay with a bit of cheese or on-the-nose dialogue (which it sometimes has to be for an audio series), without it going into full-camp territory like the 60s Adam West Batman, then I think you'll enjoy this series.

A lot of different things happened in Fallen City, but I felt the main plot and some of the subplots felt rushed or not given enough time to breathe. This is a common occurrence in superhero, sci-fi, and fantasy genres where I think the writers/creators (or execs) feel that people will lose interest if the story isn't going all ADHD and bouncing from thing to thing. That or there's the assumption that sequels "need" to raise the stakes with more characters and/or villains. Fallen City was also two episodes shorter than season 1, which I'd say those two episodes could've been used to let this season breathe and have more meat on the bones.

What I enjoyed about season 1 was that we got a noir-style slow-burn detective story that many fans are always wanting out of Batman media. Caped Crusader had that tone as well. To me, this series, Caped Crusader, and Batman: TAS all do a good job at giving us detective Batman while also still being a superhero story. Don't get me wrong, some of that tone was also present in this season, but it often felt like it was trying to get past those moments and onto the next plot point or action scene to keep people listening. Please, let Bruce detect, brood, and think.

With the season cover art and trailer, you know there's a Harvey Dent/Two-Face plot and I thought this would be the core plot of the season, but within that the story quickly moved into a mystery plot involving the Court of Owls. On top of that, there are mysterious earthquakes in Gotham. THEN we get a Ra's Al Ghul plot. Yes, it's all intertwined, but it's too much, IMO. Oh, and Barbara Gordon is still semi-on the run after the events of Riddler, but she's also secretly playing as Oracle, an Anonymous-style underground voice for Gotham.

And I think all this is what made Fallen City feel rushed, but also not fully fleshed out. Any 2 or 3 of those plot points would've been enough for a full 10-episode season, but I feel like the writers/producers wanted to include all these elements and more. Or when they started connecting threads they kept adding more characters and plot points which made it feel chaotic and also like not enough.

Would I have accepted a cliffhanger ending with the hopes of a part 2 in the near future? Yes. Or could they have teased a few of these things like the Court of Owls or Ra's Al Ghul WITHOUT going fully into those plots? Also, yes.

Nevertheless, this continues to be a well-produced series and it's always fun to listen to. I also enjoyed the returning characters like Gina Rodriguez's Barbara Gordon, though, I did not expect to hear Cheech Marin as her father, Jim Gordon. That was a humorous reveal that I had trouble wrapping my head around it at first because he's so distinct in my head, but I eventually embraced it as the season played on. Colman Domingo returns as Batman, having replaced Winston Duke from season 1, with his role starting in Riddler: SitD. Jason Isaacs also returns as Alfred Pennyworth, and I think he does a fantastic job. Hell, I think Isaacs could jump in as a live-action Alfred in the upcoming Gunn-verse (if there's ever a Batman separate from Reeve's Batman). Morena Baccarin, Tahar Rahim, Alan Ruck, and André Holland as Harvey/Two-Face round out the rest of the main voice cast. All do a good to great job, but I am curious to know how Holland was able to change his voice for Two-Face. It wasn't just a different tone or style like when Domingo switches from Bruce to Batman, but it almost sounded like he was talking as if his mouth was deformed like Harvey's as well. I'd be interested to see a BTS video or interview about his performance.

As far as new characters go, was I suspicious of Allie and Cobie early on? Yeah. Even without knowing the voice actors, anytime you add random characters AND keep them on, there's probably something's up with them. Was I able to predict the final reveals? Not exactly, but again, my Spidey senses were tingling, especially with Allie grieving Harvey for two seconds before jumping in to help and flirt with Bruce. Then again, this could've been the pacing as mentioned above.

All in all, despite minor critiques, I still enjoyed Fallen City, maybe not as much as season 1 or Riddler: SitD, but I look forward to more of these audio stories. If you listened or are a fan, hit me up and let me know your thoughts.

< I am a fan of Slow Burns. Mostly because I like watching how Muses overcome conflicts and have those results have a rightful place in that Ship.

Jayden comes with her own brand of luggage when it comes to her past relationships. And that has a place just like it would in real life. I know writing is a means of escape from real life. I do, but Muses are people in their written way and things of this nature can leave scars that are harder to see.

When Jayden loves another person, she loves with all of her. The good and the bad. She will worry about Boden when she isn't there to to watch his back. She wants to be there when he has gone to the end of his rope and be the one to help him when he hits those lows. She would become protective when need be, but also trust him when she knows he has the advantage. Because she does trust that he would not put her life at risk unless it was the last resort.

Again this is my not trying to force anything upon your plate. These are just my thoughts on what could be if you ever felt like trying to discover what a Ship between Boden and Jayden would be like.

INTERACTIONS

I am very reluctant to roleplay or talk in-character in dms, for different reasons (exceptions can be discussed on rare occasions). Please respect this as an important boundary. I offer various options to contact me listed below.

My dms are open for plotting and ooc, as long as it's not getting too personal. I'm open to talk about story ideas, our muses, fandoms (movies and tv, books, games, music) pop culture, you name it. I rarely reach out first but if you say hi I will answer to my best ability.

I accept in-character smalltalk and short-form rp through my askbox. Anon is an option if you're shy but keep in mind that my answers will be very limited unless you come up with something unique to ask my muse. You can continue a conversation into a thread if you want to come off anon. (This form of interaction is new and experimental to me, I might adapt, change, tweak to my liking in the future, or scrap it if it doesn't work out.)

WRITING

No godmodding, power play, meta gaming. I also don’t like forcing or rushing certain dynamics that don’t feel like natural character progression. Plotting beforehand is welcome but not mandatory. If it ever feels like being stuck we can pause the writing and have a small plotting session between scenes or even for the same scene. I am a big fan of the “yes, and” approach, give me something to work with. I don’t have an estimated length for texts, it always depends.

My blog is strictly and firmly against the usage of AI. I will never use AI for writing or to generate images. If I ever accidentially reblog something AI-generated please let me know, but be respectful while you do so. I do not wish to write with you if you use AI, don't ever feed my writing to an AI, I do not consent to this.

I don’t do a lot of formatting. I prefer small font, my writing is usually continuous text with no line breaks for dialogue. Let me know if this is difficult to read for you and I will adjust, no questions asked. Please try to trim your posts if possible. Generally, feel free to format your text as you wish but here are some things I have issues with: Excessive spacing between words (triple space and higher), excessive bolding or italicizing to a point where it distracts me; all caps, text from font generators (captions and highlighted phrases are perfectly fine but I can’t read a whole text in those fonts).

SHIPPING AND DYNAMICS

I’m multiship and multiverse, every ship takes place in its own verse if not communicated otherwise. I rely heavily on chemistry, don't force things. The occasional smut might happen but I’m more interested in exploring dynamics outside of romantic shipping, such as allies, enemies, enemies to friends, found family, etc.

The Masked Marketplace Festival: one of the most beloved events in Ethiopia, it is a week in the middle of May where all are seen as equals and no one is recognizable. royals, nobles, and commoners alike come together to sell skills, artistry, weaponry, livestock, fashion, and more - all under the guise of elaborate wooden, painted masks. you never know who you are buying from, nor who may purchase what you offer, but it has never failed to bring the nation together in the past. the streets of Adababy are filled with tables && vendors, fortune-tellers and artists, performers and scammers alike.

The 5-Year Butterfly Migration: every 5 years towards the end of May, butterflies in masses arrive to Ethiopia through the Simien Mountain paths, creating a stunning and spectacular view. Many rare butterflies can be seen during this 2-3 day period where they travel through the mountains, and it has become an anticipated spectacle among Ethiopians. Lovers are known to take romantic picnics or luncheons along the migration trail, or even camp out on the mountain to watch the butterflies wake up in a sea of color and flight.

Spring's End Evening Concert: starring musical talents from Brazil && Madagascar, Ethiopia partnered with potential new friends to put on a night of beautiful music, intricate dancing, and delicious food. the set up will take up most of the space in the main gardens and festivities && singing will extend long into the night, ending only at dawn the next day.

However, I ship based on chemistry, so if our muses develop a connection, I'm open to exploring this. I prefer this to be discussed ooc if it starts heading that direction. Open to OC ships, but again, chemistry is key. And, obviously, Angel is gay - I'll be writing him as such. If your muse is female/fem-leaning, sorry, but he ain't into it!

(I also feel the need to stress that while I enjoy exploring the dynamic between Angel and Valentino, please do not misinterpret this as shipping. To be clear, writing interactions between characters who have a toxic and abusive relationship while also acknowledging love, sex and trauma bonding as a realistic part of that relationship does not constitute shipping, to my own definition. I am pretty lax, and will rp a lot without requiring prior discussion. Hi anon!

So i'm gonna be upfront - ever since we got this like 5 days ago, I have been trying very hard to figure out and draw out a rough idea of what I believe the ball looks like.

Unfortunately, I have failed. I am not a skilled architect to place my ideas on paper and make it look workable

SO, TEXT DESCRIPTION IT IS. The ball has always left the grounds amorphous, so people have the flexibility to headcanon in what they need or want to have at a ball, as well as allow people to create their own backdrops for their RPs that they need (such as hedge mazes, kitchens, VIP rooms, secret evil bunker lair under the mansion, whatever!) to achieve whatever their RP threads aim to do!

Here are some things to keep in mind, under the cut:

Canonically, the ball is held in a mansion tucked away at the base of a valley between two mountains near a major city. Far enough away to sell the illusion of being removed from society, yet close enough that it isn't difficult for even the lowest caste of troll to hitch a ride there. The mansion itself is large, with a U shape that hugs a small lake that has pooled in the valley. This leaves the ball with a lovely view of the water and privacy for those who will stay there. The lake itself is swimmable, and has a handful of boats that allow people to traverse it for a romantic moment. The boats, however, are limited, so reserve your turn ahead of time!

As of the 12th Perigee Ball 2022, one of the cliffs that surround the lake was destroyed after the ball ended after an unruly guest with a rocket launcher broke the 'no live weapons' rule. Kilran honestly should have seen it coming.

As of 12th Perigee Ball 2023, with the funding of a VERY rich fuschia clown ancestor-in-law, the cliff has been repaired, re-planted with foliage, and the lake even got terraformed into a heart shape, increasing it's appeal to guests.

The mansion is quite lavish on the inside with a custom foyer depicting paintings of the previous ball Kings and Queens leading into a gargantuan, three level ballroom. On the first floor, social areas with tables and couches are placed to facilitate a place to rest, while the second floor is reserved for dancing. A stage where performers and an orchestra can play lies against the back wall, near the doors to reach the wrap around balcony that allows guests to admire the lake.

The third floor is a simple balcony view, where the VIP guests can enjoy the main hall's music and festivities. These are connected to the VIP rooms, with their own dance floors, performance stages, and social areas. These are accessible through elevators and stairs just off of the main dance hall.

Outside of the ballroom is an extensively decorated garden specifically planted and geared towards beautifying a winter landscape. Ice Sculptures are common, as well as semi-private gazebos and pavilions for couples to have their own romantic moments in.

Next to the main ball rooms are the fully furnished dining rooms, which allow trolls to sit either individually or in a group and order from the waiters who will serve them food. When it comes to the feast time, a large table is placed at the front of the main dining rooms where the host and his personal guests sit.

There are multiple bars situated within the dining room, the ball room, and the outside gardens where trolls may order drinks, but alcoholic drinks aren't served until 11PM when the underage trolls are removed from the premise.

The mansion itself has social rooms for trolls to retreat to beyond the ball rooms. These are wings of rooms on the first and second floor, and are filled with crackling fireplaces and sofas for trolls to lounge on along with butlers who can serve them drinks and snacks.

There are further wings of the mansion that are blocked off during ball time. These are the personal bedrooms of the host, his personal guests, and any VIP guests who would prefer to pay to reside at the ball itself for the duration of the ball. They are heavily guarded with physical and digital security and trolls found leaving the allotted public ball grounds are rebuffed back to where they should be.

There are also spa, makeup, and tailoring services and facilities for trolls who rent a room at the mansion.

3- What work are you most proud of (regardless of kudos/hits)?

Grow As We Go and Eulogy are up there (and I almost chose the latter) but. Restraint was so much fun. It's smutty and silly and a brand new fandom for me, written for and with the help of a VERY old friend and it's making me new ones too and like. That's all I really want. I just wanna get to make friends and talk to them and share in the joy of living and creating.

I'm getting teary just laying here in bed thinking about it. I love the people I get to meet with my writing so much. This one especially I got some comments about how I made people remember to be kind and love themselves, too, and even if I never make it on the best seller lists or live to be 50; just being kind to one person is worth it.

One novel (the same one since 2019 or so), one Mini Bang, and... a Genshin Impact fic. I'm gonna finish all of them, but I can't really talk about any of them bc two of them are NDAs by design and the GI one will have an undecided amount of a semi-contentious ship. (Yes. It's LuKae.) Granted, it's a bloody whump of a spy thriller so it's not LIKELY the Puriteen book-banning-brigade would enjoy it anyway... but it's still a can of discourse I don't wanna deal with.

15- What WIP are you taking into next year with you?

I'm gonna count these as the PUBLISHED fics, so: I swear to GOD I will finish with your bare hands, with love before RvB s20 drops and also rum on the fire. The former needs the last chapter tweaked a little to smooth the transition into the next scenes, and the former has some plot threads that got a little tangled + needs a more purple-prose style that takes some extra effort to use.

Nnnnnn, that's a tricky one, bc ROTF and Restraint both have some extremely poetic lines... but I gotta give it to Grow as We Go bc it just cracks me up so much and I'm so PROUD of the subtle twist on the common saying.

This is a RP and ask blog. As such, feel free to ask anything or request a RP etc. etc. I’m always happy to meet new people huhuhu~ I go by Potato or Silver usually, and I’m primarily an artist who hopes to someday make comics. I enjoy a bit of roleplaying here and there as well B)

There probably won’t be much be much sexual nsfw stuff here, but if there is it will be tagged as nsfw and put under a read more. I’m 25+, but smut’s not really my thing. Unsure whether or not this could be considered an actual 'ask', but I figured It's worth a try, yeah? Anyhowww!

Do you know of any good methods to locate a roleplay partner? I've been having the darndest luck primarily because most people end up ghosting me even though I believe our initial interaction/story-board went well. Maybe It's just one of those things you keep working at, but I'm not really sure.

If you don't have a good answer for that, then it's fine: What do you prefer roleplaying, If anything? Just curious!

hi there! so the easiest — and simultaneously hardest — thing to do is to reach out to the people you write with. send them a message, maybe a compliment about something you like about their portrayal / blog, maybe a question where they could see the plot going, etc. if you get over this first interaction hurdle, it becomes easier to reach out and potentially ask to write again in the future.

also, the majority of people i've met in my years here do want to interact with you once you become mutuals. sometimes it's just hard to find a first common ground, so maybe send an ask or like one of their starter calls or, as mentioned above, send them a message. sometimes it just doesn't work out for whatever reason, though, and that's okay. you can always find new people — either go into your fandom's rp tags to find other writers, or see whoever else people you write with interact with.

ps: as for your other question, i'm not really sure. currently, i don't really roleplay here at all because life's too busy, and my main blog is gathering dust ( although i am working on a new multi ). however, i do like roleplaying semi-plotted things. it gives me a direction of where to lead a plot, often resulting in some longer and more detailed threads ( which i prefer to one-liners ). in terms of themes, i like it all — angst, fluff, smut. i'm not really big on romantic / shippy stuff, though, because i'm aromantic and just don't vibe with it most of the time.
