my brain is so full of rot for them rn hahaha
the baby's antennae glow unpredictably so she resorts to using a little bonnet/shawl thing she finds to cover them. contextually theyre wandering around and avoiding apprehension on this planet that philippa's stranded on. the planet is almost always shrouded in darkness, so the glowy baby is a bit of a liability.
also she names him Moss bc he likes to eat moss :) not really having any rations the two have to kinda ravage around for food. philippa is grateful to have the academy's survival training under her belt, but feeding and taking care of an unidentified alien baby presents its own challenges.

Part 1: Early Summer Wildflower Palooza, Cranberry Glade. It's orchid week at Cranberry Glades! Ok - the event may not be quite as exciting as Shark Week on Discovery, but plant nerds such as me experience something approaching tingly nipples at the prospect of getting up close and personal with grass pinks and snakemouths. A sampling of the many orchids now in bloom . . .
From top: greater purple fringed orchid (Platanthera grandiflora), a tall, leafy-stemmed beauty with clustered, intricately-fringed lavender flowers; downy rattlesnake plantain (Goodyera pubescens), a common terrestrial orchid of eastern woods with a striking, reticulated pattern in its leaves (this one is getting ready to bloom); the flamboyantly-beautiful tuberous grass pink (Calopogon tuberosus var. tuberosus), whose nectarless flowers deceptively imitate the magenta color of those of other bog plants, such as meadow phlox (following post), to draw pollinators; a ragged fringed orchid (Platanthera lacera), also known as green fringed orchid, whose fragile, frilly green-white flowers are hard to spot in the bog underbrush; the dainty rose pogonia (Pogonia ophioglossoides), also known as snakemouth orchid, due the tooth-like protuberances on its lower lip (note the sneaky goldenrod crab spider (Misumena vatia) hiding in the flower in the second photo, waiting to pounce on an unsuspecting bee, the orchid's primary pollinator); and northern tubercled orchid (Platanthera flava), another orchid with green-white flowers that can be difficult to spot in the bog underbrush.

1st May 2023-Bentley Wood
Pictures taken today in this set are of: 1. Primroses. 2. Spurge. 3. Charming wood anemone. 4 and 5. Stunning scenes of vibrant swathes of bluebells on the forest floor as we have seen before at this another of our key butterfly sites visited for the first time in 2023 today. 6. A beautiful Green Tiger beetle, it’s the fourth year running we’ve seen one now and third consecutive year at Bentley Wood I always feel so fortunate to see this wondrous and exotic looking insect hop across paths. An epic and immersive moment. 7. Some lovely eyelash fungus which I wasn’t expecting to see today and never had here before, one of a few great little things of nature I enjoyed today. 8. A crane fly I believe a cone horn cranefly I was amazed to see on the path towards the end of the walk, I found it so colourful and fascinating. As I’ve got more interested in insects beyond butterflies, moths, dragon/damselflies the past few years I’ve noticed just how rich in insect life Bentley Wood is which is so good. 9 and 10. Great green views in fine sunshine.
Oil beetle and snipe fly as I had seen here before were also good to see on the walk, as were a spider, bee flies, tadpoles and pond skater on the pond, pretty bugle, ground ivy, tormentil, greater stitchwort, garlic mustard and cuckooflower. It was a delight to hear a Cuckoo’s enchanting call reverberating through the woods I have had an amazing bank holiday weekend for these birds I love. Hearing the wholesome drumming of another of my favourites Great Spotted Woodpecker and Pheasant as well as seeing Blue Tit and Brimstone stood out too.

Howdy, it's been a while! As soon as I saw this beautiful Filip Burburan piece (artist of four wurm cards!) I was looking forward to seeing what this card did. I'm shocked it isn't a common (it's our first rare wurm in Standard since Brother's War, two years ago), but I'm equally shocked at the raw efficiency of this monster!
It is nicely keeping in tradition with Colossal creatures all having exclusively 5s and/or 6s in their stat boxes though, appreciated.
It feels a tad odd that this doesn't fit the bill of a "rattlesnake card" (card that sits around as a known quantity waiting for an opponent to do something threatening that prompts it to pounce) but flash feels appropriate. If this somehow ends out the bane of a format then I guess "leaving four green open" could be rattlesnakey enough (I'll eat my cowboy hat if that happens though yeeeeehawwww)
Ramping from the 'yard is nice too, and honestly makes this a decent fit for my Wurm commander deck, provided I can find enough Deserts that are any good...

tired of good only coming from irreparable harm. tired of "well, duh" rules coming from horrific tragedy. tired of living through historical events. tired of being told that my empathy needs to be turned on and used like a weapon, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. tired of my trauma being used to hold me hostage. tired of being told i'd be the perfect person to fix everyone else around me BECAUSE of that empathy and trauma. i am so tired. i am so tried. i am so tired.
