I’ve been delving even deeper into news about those new PPG comics… and despite the suspiciously reboot-looking Mayor and girls designs being used on this…

…I mean, it kicks ass.

hi. me again. at work I was thinking about mttv on air all day but now i've watched the peak objectum movie and mttv plagues me so you have to hear my thoughts that aren't gonna make much sense. do you hear me. okay questions + thoughts. lets see if I can remember them all
oneeeee. do you think mtt's show has a feel to it that tenna's did? Tenna just thinks that that's just what a show and set is supposed to feel like; Mtt just subconciously makes it feel like that because how much Tenna's show did for him. Neither of them notice it. I think everybody else does though. smile.
twooooo. I don't remember if I had something here. I think I did but I can't remember
ccccc. do you have any specific heights for each of the freaks.
44444444. I would ASSUME tenna and mtt hang out off set but pleeeassssseeee if you would be so kind as to enlighten me to what activitess they might do.
eefffffffffff. WAIT NO I rememebered thought two. something something REALLLY stupid but Tenna being otherkin but he's. just TV. guy who feels like a tv. just because I think it's really really funny.
seveennnnn. I forgot what question six was for the third time.
sixxxx. we're still lookking for the question.
eeeeeee. okay I still can't remember the question. so I'll be back when I do. in the mean time. smiles. I will think about mttv and mttv on air
Hello *wave* hello *wave* drop the movie I wanna SEE
#one
I think mettaton’s show would very intentionally refrence the vibes of various media he likes/fascinates him I just think he’s just. A tv/ movie freak. Writing love letters to media via esoteric surreal insane and violent sketches and bits LOL
Specially TV Time. Of corse. AND!! he will also inject the vibes unintentionally on occasion.. as one does when making art….
Tenna doesn’t notice either way HEHHE he does not remember everything he’s said. mettaton would have to point out the references for him to notice. And he’s not gonna do that ever especially with the episodes before Tenna is on. Simply a little embarrassed. And. Yes. I think people notice this.
(Mettaton going over a script with tenna and tenna is Like. *This line sticks out weird what’s that about? And mettaton knows it’s a reference to episode 13 season 4 of TV time and he’s like. *Nothing. it’s nothing. Erases it from pure humiliation LOL)
Two.)
👍
3: had to think. All I knew is tenna is big as HELL‼️‼️‼️‼️ MTT: 5’8” TV:6’6” final choice (subject to change) Tenna pisses Mettaton’s crew the FUCK OFFF because they have to figure out how to put him in frame 😭 they’re not used to it

YEASSS‼️‼️💥💥💥 I love the idea that he doesn’t really have the words for it but he’s like. That’s me I’m the TV. He probably wouldn’t talk about it because he thinks he’s WEIRD but… ur not weird to me tenna you’re awesome…….. 💔

Hello I wanted to say thank you for your kenneth branagh hamlet posting it’s been so validating for someone who never liked that movie very much
my gripe with kenny b doing hamlet is it always struck me as a fairly self centered piece of cinema. specifically ken b is so focused on the fact that he’s Playing Hamlet that he barely pays any attention to caring about the other people in the room, which is just antithetical to some of the most fundamental rules of acting. because I believe hamlet (the guy but also the play ig) just doesn’t WORK if hamlet isn’t deeply invested in what happens to claudius/gertrude/laertes/ophelia/horatio/the ghost. and this is how we ended up with the final sequence of the movie being the norwegians putting up a massive Kenneth Branagh As Hamlet statue while hamlet and horatio have their final conversation standing ten literal feet apart.
Anyway all this to say I’m so glad you also thought that something was fundamentally wrong about that movie. when I was in high school my english teacher taught us the play from that movie and I was in such distress
OH also i THINK??? just based off the costumes of the background actors that this is meant to take place somewhere in the 1870s-1880s. bustle period 👍
PRECISELY!!! PRECISELY!!! the way i've been describing it (to people who didn't ask but i'm pissed off) is that branagh seems to care way more about hamlet as a cultural concept (the idea of hamlet as a famous work of art, the intellectual capital hamlet carries, the prestige of hamlet as a demanding role) than he does about the play itself. because pretty much every directorial choice in that movie is, like, the first and easiest choice you'd think of. and the easiest reading isn't always a bad thing, but the fact that NOTHING new is being put forth here goes really badly with the way branagh plays hamlet the character, which is that he seems to be using the role as a vessel for him to flex his Shakespearean Acting Voice and to look very dignified and brooding on screen than... to communicate any of the characters of hamlet. just like you're saying, none of the side characters have any real depth--i mean, for fuck's sake, it doesn't even seem like any of them are FRIENDS? that was the driest polonius-and-laertes-lecture-scene i've ever seen. kate winslet is doing her damndest and derek jacobi has never missed ever but they're not really given much to work with innit
and this is also why i think kenneth's performance in itself fucking blows even if he is a fairly decent actor on a craft level. because he doesn't care about the CHARACTER of hamlet. i simply do not think you can play a good hamlet without looking undignified and out-of-control. like, even his antic disposition is very. i don't want to say "sheldon-cooper-esque" because that sounds like fucking nonsense, but the framing is such that i think the viewer is meant to laugh WITH his hamlet and see his hamlet as running mental circles around everybody else. and, again, that's not ALWAYS a bad thing, but the fact that we never really see him wrongfooted or humiliated or even pathetic... as if hamlet isn't experiencing events that would make the most stoic person in the world curl up in the fetal position and scream and rip out their hair. SHOW SOME FUCKING FEELING! STOP TRYKNG TO LOOK COOL! THIS IS A PLAY ABOUT GRIEF WILL YOU FUCKING CRY ABOUT SOMETHING
my professor who assigned the movie said he likes to use it to talk about lit -> film adaptation because it makes a nice contrast to something like baz lurhmann's romeo + juliet, which is sort of compensating for the antiquity of the language by making everything about costume and background and character an over-the-top technicolor blast of passion and feeling. whereas kenbranlet 1996 is picking all the obvious/expected accoutrements--character choices, background, editing effects--so that the audience can experience and digest the shakespearean poetry without having to also think about the rest of it. this makes sense to me as an analysis but i deeply and thoroughly resent almost everything about it

Mutant Mayhem is easily peak TMNT for me, honestly super genius glad they got actual teenagers to play the turtles AND good for Seth Rogen for making sure the artists had a great experience working on it, haven’t seen the rest of the 2012 series and the 2007 movie or anything ROTTMNT yet tho someday might - the art style in that show looks solid. Asteroid City is the first Wes Anderson movie I’ve ever seen in theaters, it’s pastel color palette and atmosphere is such a beauty to look at, especially its unique framing device - the scene with Margot Robbie is really sweet and touching to me
I personally think ELO doesn’t get enough recognition outside of Mr. Blue Sky and mayyybe Livin’ Thing (no shade to those two songs btw). I guess I just wish their other songs are utilized in more movies cuz they’re honestly ahead of their time in a couple ways, like idk there’s just something so innovative, yet lively and organic about the way Moog and other electronic instruments are juxtaposed with a full blown orchestra in their music, especially for 70’s-80’s standards - I’m probably living under some rock or something but I genuinely can’t think of any other music artists that actually does this in that time period (or maybe I’m just a sucker for pop songs mixed with music orchestra in movies idk)
anyway the album was pretty neat 👍
to me, “Confusion” straight up sounds like something you’d hear on a TV special from the late 70s or 80s with their whole charming and upbeat vibes and everything, it’s so good - “Strange Magic” is a very nice allusion to how one feels when they’re with someone they have a crush on in contrast to all the times they’ve been alone by themselves and I think this is very well complemented with the unique composition of both orchestra and electronic into its dreamy tune
I could list other personal highlights but we’d probably be here all day - point is: go listen to ELO, they make really great music, peace out✌️

(same anon as before) No prob, I'll just post what I wanted to talk about here.
I'm trying to write a fic with KvZ as the focus and you depict him so well with your art, I kinda want to ask for your opinion on him and Genshin and their relationship (huge GnKnt shipper here) just to get a different perspective and more depth into what you think of them. I love how you portray them both and I'd appreciate hearing what you think.
Also as an amateur artist, if you could give me any art tips about drawing like you do, especially with all the symbolism and metaphors, I'd really appreciate it.
That's all, thanks, and sorry if I bothered you!
vvv
Thank you! But you give me too much credit. I’ve mostly just drawn variations of the two standing in the dark [gestures to img below]. Admittedly, I haven’t thought too deeply about their relationship beyond Klimt’s mental decline (and how that affected the people around him) and their final duel. But if it’s anything, I view them both as impulsive and emotional. I don’t really have a solid opinion on the matter of their marital status. Sorry, I just enjoy seeing guys who are doomed by the narrative be self destructive and tear their lives apart 🤷‍♂️
Tumblr media
As for art tips— I don’t know how experienced you are, but regardless of skill level, you should have a good grasp on the fundamentals (eg: values, proportion, perspective, line quality, etc.). Once you have a handle on the basics, drawing from life, doing master copies, photo studies, etc. helps further develop and hone your skills.
I don’t have any good resources explaining things, but search around; there's plenty of free art learning resources online. I’ve heard good things about Proko on youtube. It's also good to look at artists of different styles, mediums, and eras. That way, you can learn from analysing their techniques and you can develop a style of your own.
A small word of advice— if you're still a beginner, don't get too caught up on the details and on complex techniques. Those things will come in due time (or if you want to push yourself, but I don't really recommend force. you should enjoy creating art). Beautifully rendered art with unintentional poor proportions and composition sticks out like a sore thumb (unless you don't mind, then you do you).
Explaining my creative process is tough since most of it just kind of happens, so I’m sorry if this comes out incomprehensible. For me, when it comes to symbolism, it’s basically analysing the character and what situation you want them in and honing in on specific ideas. Let’s use these pieces for example:
Tumblr media
Kazuma has an association with snakes because his family crest represents snake eyes. Here, I’m using the snake to symbolise his hatred, which stems from his father's death. On the left, he wields it. He's seemingly calm and under control. The snake is ready to strike. To the right, his hatred spirals and nearly consumes him. It's the demon inside him 🤓
Besides the obvious of what happens in their story, some things you can draw from is how a character presents themselves, perspectives, occupation, hobbies, personal effects, cultural/religious/societal/etc. background, conflicts, era/location, etc. But other than that, symbolism can be incorporated in smaller, subtler ways, like the way someone holds a bottle, how an article of clothing is worn, and the like. Watching movies/tv, reading comics, and other media helps. Pay attention to how the director/author frames and lights things 👍
(side note: karuma is a recurring symbol in tgaac)
Not sure if anything I wrote here is of help, but yeah
