Dude I’m so dumb but how does our Rick have any memories of froopyland? Or like, how does he know anything about Beth’s past at all?

OKAY… so i don’t have a definitive answer for this, but i have some theories that line up.

so at the beginning of “the abc’s of beth,” beth and the kids are listening to the news anchor talk about tommy’s dad’s execution.

beth mentions that, as a kid, she told herself that “tommy had just gotten lost in the magical realm of froopyland.”

then, we immediately hear glass break in the kitchen and rick pokes his head around the corner…

on a first watch of the episode, i thought this was rick being eager to listen in on the conversation. on a rewatch with full context, it makes so much more sense that he was SO shocked that he dropped whatever he was holding and immediately peered around the corner. i think that THIS was his realization that this beth had a froopyland, too- and he was a bit taken aback.

he mentions that a lot of beths had froopylands- specifically because beth was a “scary” kid. so, it’s not that odd that she would have one, too.

as for how exactly he had memories of this froopyland, he mentioned in “the rickshank redemption” that the same thing happens multiple times across infinite timelines. therefore, if this beth had a froopyland and so did his beth, then the odds are that they would’ve been extremely similar to one another. the divergence in their timelines probably happened when beth’s rick decided to abandon her and our rick’s family died.

in relation to his memories of beth’s past, we have to remember that he really can’t offer any insight to what she was like past young childhood- the same level of knowledge about his daughter that a rick who had abandoned them would have. i think it’s also safe to say that beth probably doesn’t remember a lot of her childhood- especially because she so easily accepted everything rick revealed to her as fact and completely misremembered the tommy incident.

this box of toys confused me a bit, but i think that when rick finally decided to leave the house he shared with diane, he packed up beth’s little toys to take them with him… because he’s a sentimental old sappy girl dad.

“The most challenging thing this time was water,” Russell says. “That involves a whole set of problems we’d never faced before - and bear in mind, it’s safety first, with all our wires and electrics all over the place.  [Production Designer] Ed Thomas and his team had literally double the work, to make everything safe. And it also meant some of the actors getting very uncomfortable - imagine spending your entire working day, wet!  Then again, for all I know, that’s a normal day at DWM Towers.” [Only when Peter’s crying at Doomsday again - Ed]

Step away from the watery horror inside Bowie Base One, though, and we find ourselves on the wild, untamed wilderness of the Martian surface. At once familiar (thanks again, Spirit and Opportunity!) and deeply alien, how did the crew approach bringing Mars to life?

“It’s that old faithful - the quarry!” Russell cries. “But [visual effects house] The Mill has done some spectacular work to take those basic landscapes and extend them into the huge, sweeping vistas of the Red Planet. It’s quite breathtaking.  And of course, it means tinting every exterior shot in the grade, so the whole feel of the story becomes filled with red.  Then the sun sets, and the red darkens, and the real trouble begins...”

“With my time on Doctor Who coming to an end, I was keen to touch parts of the Doctor that haven’t been explored before,” Russell explains.  “So as events close in on him, David absolutely lets rip with the fireworks, in what I think is his most extraordinary performance yet - and that’s just the start of it, compared to where he’s heading at Christmas!”

This is the Snowbound chapter, which I know a lot of you have been looking forward to! What began as a chance to play in the snow the team had never experienced before, ends up being a mission with all of Shuggazoom at stake. But the catastrophic snowstorm is not the only thing the team is worried about.

There’s also Nova.

This is another one of Amber’s big chances to go on a mission and help out the team! She’s learning so much about being brave and becoming stronger in her own way. I’m so proud of her 🥰
