waters on march changed my biological makeup. bc ten had done his slow ascent into rage and war and that episode just combined everything, all the seasons; rose, martha, donna, and just showed what really remains after a doctor who’s had everything taken away from him one time too much during the same regeneration. that face went through so much, got so attached, despite trying its best not to, and there we have him: rose, his rose with a human doctor away in another universe, martha who devoted herself so much to him, who he made into a warrior despite her only ever wanting to be a doctor — at the end she had to choose peace for herself. and donna, oh donna… who had nothing but her facade of confidence to hide her deeply rooted insecurities of never being enough, turning out to be the single most important being in the entire universe — only for it to barely last a day, and not only does donna have to go back to being “insignificant”, but the doctor can never take her back on their adventures, because if she remembers him she’ll burn, her head will get fried. and in a way, ten is the villain in this, because he was the one removing her memories of him, therefore removing “all” she was worth.

he’s been the despair, the destruction, of so many dear people around him, and it all comes crashing down on him during waters on mars. “Time Lord Victorious”, not obeying the laws of time because these laws are what stopped him from saving so many people. so angry, so upset, so ruthless, because he’s practically claimed the title of God, deciding who lives and who dies, deciding what’s allowed to happen.

and later, when he finally regenerates, which ten needed to do, that face had done too much damage already, he gets thrown into eleven’s funky body. entirely new body without the lack of serotonin that ten suffered from — and who’s the first face he sees? a child’s. little amy pond. And the truth is that the childish regression the doctor made in this regeneration was obligatory for him to regain his sanity. he needed to relearn how to love everything and let himself get attached, so eleven’s body gave him that. if he hadn’t, he’d go insane with power. (which yk later he obviously does before he’s stopped again but spoilers spoilers)

so yeah then there’s the entirety of the eleven to twelve arc that i won’t get started on bc that would take another eternity, but damn. waters on march is goated, send post

y’all i’m watching s4 of nuwho (haven’t watched classic) and I just. don’t want to finish. i’m on the waters of mars episode and I don’t want to say goodbye to ten yet. nine’s goodbye cut me deep and i’m still not over it, i already know minor spoilers for the season ending and I’m avoiding it…I’m sure matt smith is gonna be brilliant but i love david’s doctor soooo much (not as much as nine, of course, but ten is special in his own way). i’m crying just thinking about it. help.

i wanted to talk about the similarities between how the doctor acts in “the waters of mars” and “hell bent”. like the amount of similarities between ten and twelve stemming from the fact that the doctor just can’t lose anyone else is crazy. i think that just the references to ten’s era as well is great, like the older face to reference donna saying just save someone, the doctor taking donna’s words too seriously and trying to save everyone, the whole time lord victorious similarities, etc. i just think that the writers did such a good job connecting ten and twelve and twelve’s writing is just so good overall. like the zygon inversion speech will forever just be looping in my head. anyways uh hell bent broke me and i am very sad rn, also off topic the reference to rory and amy in the cafe when the doctor almost died was really good

I'm going to be so for real with you guys, I do not understand people who say the time lord victorious storyline was completely dropped during The End of Time. Ten is freaking the fuck out in the cafe scene with Wilf. Very much vibes of "I did things they can put you in time jail for."

personally i agree with the timelord victorious thing and think its good that he tried to save all those people despite the fixed point
