Seungmin had changed after that afternoon you had been caught in the rain, he was more affectionate when you were in public but also more protective. Although admittedly most people wouldn't notice the small gestures like always guiding you by touching your lower back, or standing closer to you when you were out in public. It wasn't unpleasant quite the opposite in fact, although you adored your sharp witted savage friend who would tease relentlessly while making you laugh this new slightly more affectionate friend who was still willing to be utterly savage made you closer than before.

"Seung?" you mused looking at him from where you were laying on the couch in his apartment "Your room mates know about you right?".

"Well yeah, the guys have been friends with me for as long as you and I have so I trust them" he shrugged his sweet floppy ears flicking softly and going back to the video game he was playing.

"Then why didn't you tell me until you had no choice?" you questioned not sure if you felt offended that they knew and you didn't for such a long time.

"It was different, we don't live together" he explained easily flicking his hair from his face.

"Is that the only reason then?" you narrowed your eyes at him knowing that he was holding something back anytime he flicked his hair that way, his tell obvious from the day you met him.

"Well yeah" he spluttered pausing the game to look at you "Why would you think there would be any other reason?" his eyes darted between your eyes and the wall behind you making you smirk while you sat up and crossed your arms across your chest in fake annoyance.

"You do know I can always tell when you hide something Seung" you laugh at his feeble attempt to not tell you the whole truth, he pouted then when that appeared to have no effect of you he rolled his eyes discarding the controller and moving closer to you still sitting on the floor but now leaning against the front of the couch looking away from you.

"I didn't want to lose you" he mumbled "you're different".

"You're my best friend too Seung" you smiled reaching out subconsciously to pet his ears his head leaning into your hand.

"It's more than that, you're special to me and I would never want to lose you" he whispered before pausing and clearing his throat "but if you tell anyone that I will deny I ever said it".

"Your secret is safe with me Seung, I swear I will never tell anyone you think I'm special" you giggled while still stroking his hair and ears. "Oh I remember what I wanted to ask you" you sat up crossing your legs on the cushions.

"Shoot" He sighed good-naturedly a lopsided smile on his face.

"Do you only have ears? or do you have a tail as well?" you chirped, you hadn't really asked any questions about the whole hybrid matter after he told you hoping that he would just open up to you but it hadn't really happened. "Do you have a super good sense of smell, or hearing or sight?" You looked at him as he flopped his head back onto the sofa cushions laughing silently.

"You're cute" he chuckled "How long have you been waiting to ask that?"

"A little while" you admitted sheepishly hiding your face from him.

"Well I have a tail that I keep hidden all the time, and I'm not a superhero I don't have any superhuman abilities you dunce" He laughed loudly now making you join in.

"So there is nothing else to being a hybrid than having a tail and ears?" you giggled.

"Well I can smell different things to humans like hormone fluctuations, adrenaline and that sort of thing but I can't smell pizza from 8 blocks away or anything like that and even then I can only sense it if it's really strong" he explained casually trying to make it easy for you to understand "But I can't sense danger, or the future or anything magical you fool".

"Why do you hide your tail from me?" you grinned as he rolled his eyes at you.

"It's not just you it's everyone" he sighed knowingly "and it's because it can embarrass me very easily".

"Why would it embarrass you more than your ears?" you asked, the penny not dropping which just made him look more flustered.

"Because it...wags when I'm happy" he groaned his face flushing as your jaw dropped, you belatedly realized that of course it would wag Seungmin was a dog hybrid and now you felt like an idiot.

"I'm sorry Seung. That was a dumb question" you whined feeling a bit stupid and embarrassed.

"It's fine, really, I just find it easier to hide it than have it give away what I'm thinking the ears do that enough" he chuckled as he saw the look on your face as you contemplated what to say next.

"Can I see your tail?" you queried as cutely as you could pouting at him with your best doe eyes.

"You're laying on thick huh? How am I supposed to resist that?" he whined sighing heavily as he got up. "Wait here I need to change out of these jeans if you really want me to show you" trudging out of the loungeroom to his bedroom. You waited patiently for 5 minutes, then 10 minutes and Seungmin still hadn't returned from his room so you got up and walked down the hall and knocked on his door.

"Hey Seung, if you don't want to you don't have to I understand" you called through the door not hearing any response you turned the door handle and open the door a crack to repeat yourself only to have it pulled from your hand as the door opened fast and you fell forward into Seungmin's arms knocking him backwards.

"Are you ok?" Seungmin asked as he caught you both and righted himself.

"Yeah, I'm ok" you huffed looking at the floor.

"You sure?" he asked again softer than the first time.

"I am I'm sorry I burst into your room and tried to knock you over I just wanted to tell you that you don't have to show me anything if you don't want to I'll stop asking questions" you whispered starting to feel shy that he was still holding you tightly against him.

"I want to show you, I trust you" he whispered back playfully letting you go and stepping back so you could look at him. He had changed out of his sweater and jeans and was now in an oversized white t-shirt and black sweatpants. As he did you immediately noticed the dark brown tail that was slowly moving behind him your eyes going wide.

"So cute" you squeaked subconsciously reached out to pet it, the fur soft beneath your fingers.

"No you are cute" he grinned looking at you fondly pleased that you seemed to have not heard him.

Unpopular K-pop opinion [IU's version]

As an OG Uaena, I feel like we don't talk enough about IU's older/early music videos or her live clips throughout her career - that made her the Queen of K-pop she is right now. Here are some of IU's music video/live clips that are underrated and worth checking out.

Lost Child (Mia) First off, her debut song. To release a ballad song as a debut song definitely says a lot about her talent. Not to mention she was only 15 years old back then. We all know how hard it is to make it as a soloist, especially to this day. Not unless you're from the Big 3 entertainment.

(A Story) Only I Didn't Know 나만 몰랐던 이야기... is a classic IU ballad song. I don't know why but my 11-year-old self can relate to this. The way IU can effortlessly make you feel the pain through her singing is way beyond. And also to have Park Bo Young in the mv??? Ugh. Truly a chef's kiss to have them in one project.

Boo Cuteness overload. If you ever wondered when IU started having many personas such as Lee Jidong and Lee Jigeum? Yeah. This is where it all began. Kidding aside, Boo shows IU's cutie and bubbly side here in contrast to the above-mentioned music videos.

Hey [Rock Version] Live From the same album (as Boo) Growing Up... this live performance of the Hey Rock version showcases IU's star power even during her Rookie days. Giving you no doubt she can sing LIVE.

Last Fantasy This may not be everyone's favorite, but this song will always have a special place in my heart. Some of you might not know but the way she released this song - unannounced as a gift, will show how IU is very grateful and loving toward Uaenas.

Every End of the Day/Peach Okay, I know this one's a bit lengthy. But, hear me out. There's a lot to unpack here. I don't know about y'all, but I really loved this mv because of how they approach shooting it. It's just like a documentary, you know like her IUtvs. They also included how IU came up with her writing process for Peach. And cannot stress enough how IU is so gf coded in the mv of EEOTD. Also, watch IU's live performance of Peach on Remocon. I just love the fact that her songs are even better when accompanied by a band.

Beautiful Dancer I swear, there's something about IU singing in Japanese. And she spoke in Japanese in her intro as if she was coming straight out of some sort of anime. After all these years, even if I don't listen to this song that often. Every time I hear it, I know every lyric. It's like it's engraved within me. I was also reminded of Kim Pilsook during her dance part in this mv. Such a cutie bub.

Believe in Love (with Yoo Seung-ho) I'm a sucker for IU duets. This is one of them. I love everything about this mv, IU's vocals never miss. And according to Soompi: "The lyrics of the song are written in reference to Yoo Seung Ho’s diary which he wrote during his trip to Sri Lanka where he witnessed the lives of orphans of wars." Which makes it even more meaningful.

This will be part 1 of my IU recommendations. I hope you'll love them as much as I do. And get the recognition IU deserves for her artistry not just her looks. I truly admire her mind and her humble beginnings as now she mastered her craft and managed to maintain on top of her career.

For some reason it's hard to believe that you would like to meet person... a traveler, who cannot even afford a room in hotel more that few nights. One said wise thing, the more you have, the more difficult it is to leave it behind and move again. Invested hard work of past year into equipment for photo & video production, today it feels heavy to sell it and move again, didn't even try it well. However, why is this so? It gives me zero income, leaves behind saturated completion and isn't promising any success. But one this that holds me here, I have fun doing this even for free. I really enjoy the journey, trying something new and unavailable before. And even more I grown in this, more I feel like this is exactly what I love to do for a living, beside traveling and helping other.

Afterwards I look at the opportunity to meet you, dear Seung-Yeon, and I wish to be there so much, but also a thought that I could never again have opportunity to challenge myself in this journey of videographer holds me back. Because I couldn't come to you like a successful person in common terms for the most, but only like a traveler. And wouldn't you be ashamed to meet a traveler?

You know dear, for me is very difficult to count on people, because our natural instinct in changing situation is to protect ourselves, our businesses, houses, kids etc... But the most yourself. Maybe, I've seen very little love, but hard to remember a woman that would like to give up for me at least something. Never met a person who would like to stand for me in times of trouble (maybe my memory is way too short). Perhaps this is why I made conclusion that woman won't do much for her man. For kids, for family, for parents, for things she loves, but for her man... Well, can't remember. This is what holds me the most. Hard to believe if something unexpected will happen you will have courage to stay. Maybe I'm wrong, and maybe you are the first person who will dispel this myth I faced so many times.

This is why I don't what to put you before such a choice between me and something else you love. I'd rather work hard to comfort your heart than challenge it.

Also, at another hand I'm willing to give up even this dream of being together, just for a chance to meet you. Even if this will be one glance, one step before the only one smile I could ever face. Thus, I'm still yet battling in my heart to don't lose this chance.

There is no clear answer. Yet my prayers lift up to heaven with divine assurance that Jesus will take care about us. He is my super hero who helps me out at any circumstances. And this gives me confidence for whatever I will choose, He won't give up on me, and so I hope you, my beloved flower Seung-Yeon.

Never forget that day in Hong-Kong, that look of someone precious for heart, leaving without even a chance to say "hello". Perhaps, it still yet hurts, but does that matter? She wasn't the first who did so, but the first for whom I have risked it all. Afterall such a mysterious question, many fall in love with me willing to be, but no one ever dared to stay. What a mystery! That's why I never chose even one.

It’s Okay to Not Be Okay Thoughts

It’s Okay to Not Be Okay is like a bisexual paradise. Like I’m gray-ace but I swear the two leads awakened something in me lmao

Finished the show and liked it, btw. Brief thoughts:

Ko Mun-yeong is the love of my life and I knew it from the very first scene she was in. You have to understand this, borderline psychotic, goth, stabby, dark-haired women with family issues are My Type.

I felt like Gang-tae’s switch from being an angry tsundere to being openly affectionate towards Mun-yeong happened a little too quickly once they moved in with her and I’m not sure I like that. I wish he had been an angry tsundere for longer. I know, I know. I’m just a sucker for angsty pining. If they weren’t going to make out until episode 11 anyway, they could have at least been madder about it! Lol. Imagine how much hotter the already hot kiss scene would have been. Js.

On that note, probably unpopular opinion, but I kind of wish Mun-yeong had been more of a “psycho” for longer lol. I feel like she got too normal too fast. I know that her character development is really important, and clearly being the way she was was extremely bad for herself and others, but I almost liked her better when she was more…stabby. On a more serious note, I wish the show had delved more into what it’s like living with ASPD because that subject is almost never touched on in media. I’ve only ever seen one YouTube video on someone with ASPD who is actually getting treatment. I feel like the show kinda brushed past it and was like “she’s better now because of Gang-Tae,” like, um, hello?

I wish the show leaned farther into the horror elements. It could have been so much creepier.

After I watched this show, I remembered how much I have always loved really good picture books and I was so enamored with Ko Mun-yeong’s books that I literally went to the bookstore and tried to see if there were any similarly creepy children’s picture books in real life. As far as I could see, there were not. Children’s book authors: there is at least one adult here who would like a really good creepy ass picture book that may or may not be suitable for children, please make it. Does anyone have recommendations? Lol.

The storyline was really good. I guess that goes without saying. The main three characters and their story were great. I appreciated how it was less of a romance and more of a family story. Sang-tae was treated with equal importance to the two romantic leads, if not more. Could we even say an argument could be made for Sang-tae being the main character? Mun-yeong’s book at the end suggests as much. Sang-tae is so, so, so good. I will say that the focus on the three of them became much clearer around halfway through, whereas at the beginning I felt like it was being set up with the romance being the primary storyline. I wish it had been more consistent from the beginning. Am I making sense?

I really liked most of the side characters too, especially the councilman’s son (am I the only one who thinks he was hot??) and Seung-jae, my love, I would watch a show solely about her. The second lead couple (?), Sang-in and Juri, was kinda lackluster, but I love them both individually.

I’ll probably rewatch this soon, if for nothing else than to stare at the two leads.

For anyone who likes this show, I suggest watching It’s Okay, That’s Love (2014) if you haven’t already seen it. Legally, it’s on Viki+. It has a lot of similarities to IOTNBO and is also a romcom/drama about mental health where the main characters have to deal with their own mental health issues as well as those of others. Really great stuff.

What are your headcannons around Jo Yeong and Myung Seung Ah's relationship? We barely saw anything with them which made me really sad because I imagine they'd be very cute together.

Ooooh, I like this question. I wish we got to see more of Yeong and Seung-Ah because their initial conversation at the cafe where he finds pictures of himself on her camera is EPIC. Especially when she goes “He’s so cool” and he goes “I can hear you.” I DIED. He clearly knows she thinks he’s hot...and clearly knows he’s hot but you literally get nothing except that brief walking handhold. It sucks.

But I think it progressed something like this:

He thinks she’s beautiful even though he initially got smitten fangirls vibes from her – like he does from a lot of girls (I mean she literally had pictures of him on her camera?!)

But he sees her around the palace and it’s clear she’s good at what she does, and is really dedicated to her job and that’s a quality he admires

His uncle (who I believe works with MSA from that one scene where he takes a picture of her) only has good things to say about her

Yeong also notices how much Lady Noh likes this girl when she doesn’t like most people

So he starts doing what he does best – observing her to find out why everyone likes her because it’s suspicious

He finds her biting sarcasm and the way she talks to people hilarious, she’s professional but there is sometimes a hidden undertone to her words – he sometimes catches himself holding back a smile at something he overhears her saying, it catches him off guard

He sees her everywhere and finds the fact that she’s always wearing well-tailored suits attractive – he is used to women dressing cutely and flirting with him but she’s rather professional (it shocks him)

He also notices that she’s very expressive when she wants to be, hearing her joke around and laugh with people she works with; he thinks her laugh is pretty

Obviously they have to work closely together every time the King disappears, they have to keep his disappearance a secret and she runs ideas by him because he knows Lee Gon the best

He starts seeking her out – having rather abrupt and awkward conversations

He also feels rather jealous when other men talk to her - and a lot of them do because she’s hella attractive - he may have sent people out on useless errands so they stay away from her...not that he’d ever admit that he was jealous

And then he goes to the Republic and is shook that Eun-Sup’s crush is Seung-Ah’s doppleganger

He finds himself looking at that picture he took of her (when he was trying to have thugs point out which one was Luna from a line of pictures) – he hasn’t deleted it for some reason

He thinks he likes her because she’s attractive but feels nothing for Na-Ri even though they look the same

Shit hits the fan, he deals with it and wakes up in a hospital bed with new memories – apparently current him is a bit more trusting and let her in sooner – his newest memory is one of him asking her out to dinner and she agrees – but it’s the day he wakes up in the hospital

She shows up to see him, worried and they sit in the hospital room – and he goes “this isn’t what I wanted for a first date” because he’s on all these drugs that make him loopy

She is like “I know, get better and take me out on a real one”

He says he missed her and laughs saying you’re definitely different (referring to Na-Ri)

He has to babysit the twins on the day of their second attempt at a first date but Seung-Ah offers to watch them with him, she is lowkey happy because she’s nervous and their presence makes it a lot better

The twins love her immediately which surprises Jo Yeong

She totally snuggles into him as they watch a really sappy Disney movie and they both smile like idiots – it breaks the ice

They spend the whole night talking about their lives once the twins fall asleep and she doesn’t leave until like 3am

When they finally go on their first date they’re both rather comfortable and he kisses her when he drops her off home

Seung-Ah spends the rest of the night on a video chat with her sisters, all of them gushing over her date because it’s like a dream come true – she’s had a crush on him for YEARS

They decide to hide their relationship at work but spend most of their time outside of work together

Lee Gon is the one who outs them although most people were already suspicious – he acts rather petulant that Yeong hid it from him but Yeong is like “you’re always disappearing with Tae-Eul”

LG and JTE hang out with JY and MSA all the time, the two join them for dinner and drinks when LG decides to cook because JTE insists

They all become rather close and both LG & JTE notice that JY is more relaxed around MSA

Title: Collateral (of love and bullets) Pairing: Yoongi/Hoseok Synopsis: Jung Hoseok may not be as successful as he wished to be when he was younger. Instead of being a dance instructor in his own dance studio, he worked full-time at a local supermarket – but at least he is happy, living with his boyfriend of two years, Min Yoongi, in a not-so-crappy apartment in the city. However, when he gets caught up in a robbery at his bank and his boyfriend disappears, his happiness is challenged, along with everything he thought he knew about the people he holds dear.

Chapter: 1

Chapter Two - digging out the bullet and holding it up to the light

Yoongi had left a note, but Hoseok found that he could scarcely run his eyes over it let alone process it. The exhaustion had caught up with him and was tugging at his eyelids, slumping his whole body.

Although his mind was racing, his body couldn’t keep up. He felt he should have been fraught with nerves, but instead he found himself melting into bed, turning onto his side to face where Yoongi would have been sleeping and curling his arms around himself, falling asleep within seconds.

His panic mode must have set in as when he woke up, the sun was streaming through the blinds and the time on his alarm clock told him it was a little past one. His stomach growled. Being held at gunpoint had sure made him hungry.

The kitchen was empty, as was the rest of the apartment. Yoongi must have visited his brother, something he always did without much warning. He didn’t like to talk about it but Hoseok had always assumed that Seung had fragile health.

The note only confirmed Hoseok’s theory as he read it over a meagre breakfast of leftover rice. Gone to be with S, be back soon. I love you - Y.

Hoseok he sat on the couch, the TV on as background noise. The apartment was too quiet with the sound of Yoongi warming up on the piano or humming something under his breath absentmindedly as he got changed or shaved or had a shower. Everything seemed muted without Yoongi.

He had no phone to check for messages or waste time on, and even if he wanted to contact Yoongi, he knew he wouldn’t be able to. Every time Yoongi visited his brother, he left his laptop and phone at home. Hoseok had always assumed it was because there was no connection out there, or Yoongi’s brother was in such critical condition that there was no time to be spared on electronical devices.

So Hoseok was left watching the TV. He had just booted up his laptop when a news announcement wedged itself between the break and the programme he was watching.

The bank flashed across the screen, a serious looking news-reporter displayed in the corner. Hoseok watched, immobile, as the image of police roaming around the same building that his very life was threatened.

Four hostages. A late night break-in. Over fifty-thousand stolen. No casualties. A familiar trend in robberies stemming back five years. A gang, known as the Blackouts, possibly reassembling for the first time in two years? Security on high alert around the Daegu banking district. No suspects as of late...

Hoseok turned off the TV, his ears deafened to the resounding silence of the apartment.

His laptop sat on his lap, the fan whirring captured his attention. His heart leapt into his throat, his eyes landing on the smile on Yoongi’s face. His background was a picture of Yoongi’s twenty-sixth birthday, a few seconds away from where Hoseok had accidentally dropped the cake onto Yoongi’s lap.

He had been so cute that day, even with icing smeared up and down his jeans. He had been even cuter without the jeans, when he gazed up at Hoseok with half-lidded eyes and flushed cheeks, whispering in a heavy voice that he wanted more, wanted Hoseok more than he had ever wanted anything.

When Hoseok reminded him of it the next day when the two woke up at noon, still wrapped around each other, Yoongi had blushed yet again and turned his head away. But he hadn’t denied it or claimed that he couldn’t remember.

In that moment Hoseok remembered thinking that Yoongi was the prettiest thing he had ever laid eyes on.

He missed Yoongi. He needed Yoongi, but there was no way of reaching him. He had never written down his brother’s number nor address, so Hoseok had no idea how to find him, and neither did Hoseok want to bother Yoongi if his brother was in critical condition.

Physically, Hoseok was fine, and he knew that he was beyond lucky. If the ‘Boss’ hadn’t ensured that the rookie’s gun had been lowered, he would have had suffered a quick death hours ago.

Hoseok almost bit through his tongue dwelling on the memory of a black mask, eyes void of anything but darkness and a voice cold and spitting.

He tried to shove the image away, focusing on opening his inbox and composing a message to Yoongi. Even if Yoongi hadn’t brought his phone with him, hopefully he would have access to a computer, and he would get it almost right away and reply.

Hey, Yoonie. If you got my texts and replied, I couldn’t get them, my phone’s broken. Stay with your brother, he needs you. When you come back we can order takeaway and watch that weird movie about the crow? I love you. Seokie xxxx

He waited as an hour crept by. He played around on an online game, losing every round. He watched some uninteresting videos about zany TV hosts and waited some more. Two hours.

He received a call on the landline, and he jumped at it to discover it was the police department calling him in for that follow-up interview. He didn’t want to leave the apartment, and yet he couldn’t bring himself to stay inside. He took the train to the police station just to answer with more or less the same answer.

How many of them were there? I couldn’t be certain.

Did you hear any of their conversation? Not really. I couldn’t make out what they were saying.

Do you have any affiliation with any street gangs? Any reason that this particular group would spare you? No. I don’t know.

When he returned home, he discovered he was restless, his mind racing. He hadn’t gotten any more information from the police, and neither them from him. He went for a quick walk around the block which turned into a brisk jog, and then a hurried run as if he was being chased. He took another shower before a disappointing lunch of undercooked noodles. Three hours.

Evening rolled around and he switched the TV back on, pulling Yoongi’s blanket over himself and burying his nose in the material. He couldn’t make it to midnight having received no reply. He forced himself into bed, wrapping the duvet around himself.

He flitted around between the realms of sleep and being awake for too long. He felt cripplingly empty and too full at the same time. He clasped Yoongi’s pillow to his chest, catching a whiff of Yoongi’s honey shampoo and his natural sweet scent. The pillow became sodden after a while, his shoulders heaving and his body shaking with the effort of holding himself together.

Fatigued, he fell asleep, although he woke up restless during the night. He forced his eyes shut and when he next opened them, the birds were chirping, and he heard the sound of cars below. The bed was empty, save for him, just like the apartment. His inbox was devoid of new messages.

With shaking fingers, he typed out a new message, barely having the will to do so, before he sent it off. He couldn’t bring himself to wait for a reply either, so he shut his laptop and turned on the TV.

The news was uninteresting, speaking of foreign diplomats and the rising price of supermarket stock. Nothing, nothing, nothing, and then-

The victims of the bank robbery gave their statements and they matched the appearances of the members to be those of the Blackouts. Six suspects, one leader and five accomplices. Security on high alert...

Hoseok knew little about gangs, but even he had heard of the ‘Blackouts’. Ruthless criminals aspiring to make money fast. When he had lived at home, there had been an infamous shoot-out in the Philippines, and the next day his classmates had talked about the gang’s kill streak.

Their hierarchy was built upon who had the most kills, apparently, and the ‘Boss’ was supposed to have executed over one-hundred. It lined up with everything the rookie had said, about how infamously terrifying the leader of the Blackouts was supposed to be, and yet… He had spared Hoseok’s life.

He didn’t want to dwell on it. He didn’t want to risk thinking that the ‘Boss’ had any remorse for human life. Hoseok was just one casualty they couldn’t afford in their limited time span.

He hadn’t known that it had been the Blackouts to threaten his life. Did that make him a war hero of some kind? Most likely not. It wasn’t as if he had fought back. He was ready to comply to the gun, to give into death.

The Blackouts. What an awful name. It suited their image though, cold, dark and hopeless. It gave him a new feeling of fear, spiking through his system.

He wasn’t held at gunpoint by just any robbers. He had almost faced death due to a group of experienced thieves, burglars, murderers.

Hoseok turned the TV off once more, resolving not to switch it on until his mind was somewhat clearer. He supposed all he could give it was time and some sort of distraction. And he found the perfect distraction in the ringing of the doorbell.

“Jung Hoseok, you open the door right now!” A familiar voice yelled out.

N.FLYING'S 'ROOFTOP' WAS K-POP'S SLEEPER HIT OF 2019

HOW AN ONLINE FORUM, AN ANONYMOUS POST, AND WORD OF MOUTH GAVE THIS KOREAN BAND THE HIT THEY’D BEEN WAITING FOR

When did N.Flying feel the success of their sleeper hit, “Rooftop?” “Just now,” main vocalist Hwe Seung says, pointing down at the ground.

Their newfound acclaim brought them halfway around the world to play KCON LA, where Seung Hyub, JaeHyun, Cha Hun, and Hwe Seung are huddled in a makeshift dressing room at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Our interview competes with a chorus of cheers for rookie boy band ATEEZ, who cook kimbap at the #KCONFoodie station a few feet away. Over the booming of the fandemonium, the N.Flying members loudly enunciate their words.

“We just had a meet and greet with our fans right now,” he continues. “Right when ‘Rooftop’ started coming on, the fans started all singing along. And I felt like, ‘Oh, we are receiving so much love right now.’”

It was a long time coming for one of K-pop’s few idol bands — and it all started on SoundCloud.

Back in August 2018, the four-piece’s leader Seung Hyub unwittingly uploaded a sketch called “Rooftop Room” to his profile under the name JDON. The DIY upload was a relatively lo-fi collaboration with Hwe Seung, constructed around trappy percussion and blaring bass. It was well-received by their fandom, N.Fia (a portmanteau of their name and “Utopia”), so the group decided to create an N.Flying version.

The band released “Rooftop” to relatively modest excitement on January 2, 2019. The track did better than usual, reaching No. 643 on Melon’s daily chart before wrapping up music show promotions on February 8. But then something unprecedented happened.

A week later, an anonymous user posted their track to a popular Korean forum. Suddenly, their song took off, entering at No. 97 on Melon’s real-time Top 100. It continued to climb the charts, eventually taking over the local Gaon rankings for a few weeks. They even returned to televised music shows for an encore run.

N.Flying went four years without a music show win, a career-making milestone for K-pop artists. (For context, BTS’s first win in 2015 is seen as the turning point in their record-breaking career.) But it finally happened for the group at The Show on March 5.

The high-flying foursome was up against some of the industry’s biggest contenders: monster rookies (G)I-DLE and former Wanna One member Ha Sung Woon. When the band’s name was announced, Hwe Seung smiled brightly, and Seung Hyub choked up while giving a speech. Cha Hun maintained his cat-like cool, reaching over to console his members. But it was resident goofball JaeHyun who fully let his emotions flow.

Or as he put it: “I was really ugly crying.” (When I tell him I saw the video, he covered his face and jokingly let out a melodramatic “Noooooo!”)

This was a dramatic reversal of fortunes. A mere week before their comeback, their bassist Kwon Kwang Jin — who had been with the group since their Japanese debut in 2013 — abruptly left the lineup amid accusations that he sexually harassed fans. "We ... confirmed the fact of him dating a fan, so we have made the final decision for Kwon Kwang Jin to leave the team,” their company, FNC Entertainment, said in a statement last December, while also denying claims of sexual harassment.

Kwang Jin's departure was yet another setback for the band. N.Flying made their formal debut in Korea in 2015 as a quartet after nearly two years of delays. Initially, leader Seung Hyub was the sole frontman, defining his performance by his fluid transitions between singing and rapping. Cha Hun and Kwang Jin handled backing vocals, with JaeHyun on the drums.

Meanwhile, Hwe Seung almost went down the alluring flower boy path of a traditional idol, competing on the second season of Produce 101 in 2017. Let’s just say his high notes were fodder for instant replays. He didn’t make it to the final lineup that formed the now-defunct Wanna One. But it’s fitting that he wound up in a band the week after the show ended in June — his upper register is capable of a rough intensity that even a rockist could love.

The new maknae’s (youngest member) 2017 entry into the group didn’t only change the dynamics of their sound — it also marked their return from a lengthy hiatus. On a March 2019 episode of the Korean music program Yoo Hee Yeol’s Sketchbook, Seung Hyub revealed that they had taken a break to find their identity as a group. “But we are still not quite sure what our color is now,” he said at the time.

Now, N.Flying has a bit more breathing room to explore their sound on their own terms. A company-created track couldn’t break them into the Korean market, so it's poetic that the newly minted hitmakers’ breakthrough was their first-ever self-composed song. Seung Hyub's own vision brought them here, and it’s a cycle that will continue: He just produced the group’s latest album, YAHO.

Released as part of the Fly High Project #2, “Rooftop” is anchored by a relaxed dembow beat. The reggae-infused track presented a softer take on their rap-rock sound, while the lyrics painted a vivid vignette centered on star-crossed lovers — which resonated with Korea’s general public.

The group traverses an aural expanse of genre classifications that are in the process of breaking down. K-pop’s genre agnosticism is well-documented; it’s common for idol groups to cycle through a flurry of “concepts.” In that sense, N.Flying is true to the industry.

“I don’t think our approach is any different from any other artist in K-pop,” says guitarist Cha Hun, who cites Slash from Guns N' Roses and Creed as his favorite artists. “The only thing that really sets us apart is that our weapon of choice is that we’re a band. We try to think about, ‘How can we as a band reach our fans in the appropriate way?’”

But their ability to play instruments has drastically widened the spectrum of genres at their disposal, and their versatility is underscored by the deep cuts. The opening riff on “Just One Day” closely resembles The Smashing Pumpkins’ ’90s-alt anthem “Today” — until the track abruptly veers into a pastiche of 2000s-era pop-punk. “Lupin” is a much harder-hitting blend of J-pop and metal, refracted through dubstep wubs. Then songs like “Let Me Show You” take after The Lumineers’ style of stomp-rock with a poppified blues twist.

Still, their particular blend of rap and rock feels organic to them. Seung Hyub clarifies that the band doesn’t exactly discuss how they approach their mishmash of genres. “We basically think about what can we do as a group,” he tells MTV News. “It just comes naturally when we form those kinds of mixes.”

But genre fusions aren’t the only type of hybridization that’s defined their career. Their status as a rock band complicates their relationship to the typical idol formula.

In a visual-oriented music industry that revolves around intense choreography, N.Flying’s relatively static blocking makes them stand out. Granted, there are idol-worthy elements to their stage presence. Just watch a stage mix of “Rooftop,” and you can tell the members have clearly rehearsed that A Night at the Roxburyrealness. Not only that, but they put their own twist on K-pop fandom norms. Thanks to “Hot Potato,” you could say N.Fia find light sticks a-peeling, bringing actual potatoes (on sticks) to the band's promotions. Their status as a rock band reshapes the standards of an idol.

While the Jonas Brothers were breaking the barrier for boy band classification in the aughts, Korea simultaneously forged its own take on the idol band. N.Flying’s successful senior labelmate FTISLAND is billed as the first of their kind: a hybrid of gorgeous, flower-boy imagery and rock-leaning tracks that added a new layer to the K-pop landscape in 2007. CNBLUE carried that torch in 2010, achieving commercial success right out the gate with their Korean debut, “I’m a Loner.”

Which brings us to the latest set of bands on the K-pop scene, fronted by the likes of N.Flying and DAY6. While the latter has a more complicated relationship with boy band status, N.Flying openly embraces the idol label. “We feel like we’re an idol band,” Seung Hyub says. “We feel like we are [singers who can be role models] to everyone, whether it’s as an idol or as a band.”

When they took to the KCON LA stage, a sea of wrist-lights beamed a blue glow back at them. A gaggle of N.Fia were caught on camera holding up potatoes-on-sticks and N.Flying signs — including two posters shouting out 2Idiots, JaeHyun and Cha Hun’s YouTube channel. ("It was a platform where we could shorten the distance between us and our fans," the drummer says.) As Seung Hyub played a keyboard prelude to their career-making anthem, the 22,000-seat arena erupted in cheers.

"The thing that’s most visible is we have a lot more fans," the leader says. "There are so many more, so when we perform, we receive a lot more energy, and we’re able to give back a lot more as well."

Chan was your best friend of five years. He was your rock, as you were his. You treated one another like other was everything good in the world. And to you, he was. Unfortunately, you couldn’t say the same for him and, while you direly hoped it to be so, the last few weeks had been quite disheartening.

You and Chan had always hung out. Be it in his studio where he worked, you listening and giving feedback on the songs, or on his days off where the two of you just chilled in the JYP cafe. The two of you were, to put it simply, inseparable.

However, Chan had begun to avoid you. Whenever you called and asked for him to hang out, he always declined. Always said he was insanely busy (though that hadn’t stopped him before). When you were stressing about school, which was getting to be more and more often considering midterms were coming up and you didn’t want to fuck anything up, he simply sent Chang Bin or Woo Jin over to help you.

While his avoidance allowed you to grow closer to the other boys, you felt like you were losing a grip on the one person who you cared about more than anything in the world. It almost felt like five years of friendship were just… going down the drain. That all the time the two of you invested into one another didn’t matter.

It hurt you inside but, as you always seemed to do, you kept it to yourself. You fooled yourself into thinking you were really having fun with the rest of the boys when Chan was missing. You forced smiles and laughs while you were with them, leaving your mind to wonder what you did wrong. Leaving you to question if Chan just… stopped caring. You felt like you were at fault for what was going on.

“Y/N!” Felix called out from the hallway of the door, a smile adorning his freckled face. “We want to show you something!”

You were confused as to who else was in on his tactics, but you shrugged it off, excusing yourself from the “conversation” that you were having with Chang Bin. That conversation, of course, only consisting of head nodding and the occasional “hmm” of thought.

Making your way over to where Felix stood at the mouth of the hallway, he led you to a room that you had become extremely familiar with. It was Chan’s and Chang Bin’s. On the bed, you spotted a laptop that was open with a video of Chan sitting in one of the studios in the JYP building. There was no title to the video from what you could tell and Chan seemed to be either distressed or venting something to his laptop that was extremely serious.

“Guys, we shouldn’t pry into Chan’s stuff,” you scolded, walking over to close it before Jeong In, who had been in the room previously alongside Seung Min and Ji Sung, moved to hit play on the video.

There was a beat of silence before Chan began to speak, his introduction and first word being none other than your name.

“Y/N… I don’t think I’ll ever actually get around to showing you this video or sending it or whatever but… I just wanted say that you have been the greatest supporter I had after coming to Korea. I wasn’t necessarily lonely my first two years here but… I was, in a way? There were people I interacted with and enjoyed conversation with but I was never really,” he paused for a moment, turning his head to look at the door before he faced the laptop camera again, continuing.

“I was never really there to them. When you showed up, just before I met Ji Sung and a year before Chang Bin even showed up, you were the first one to make me feel like I was there and active. And to think you weren’t even part of the company,” he laughed a bit, “you were just there hoping to see the members of 2PM or Wonder Girls.

“I remember you were having your own struggles speaking Korean to the barista at the Dunkin Donuts across the street.” a reminiscent smile settled on his face, his eyes no longer focused on the camera. He stopped for a moment, letting the memory settle before he spoke up again.

“We sat together and spoke for a while, getting to know one another. You didn’t act like I was some sort of god because I was training to be an idol like some other people I had met did. You showed genuine interest in what I did. From then on, it was almost like we had immediately connected and I was so much happier than I had been before. I was more active with talking to the other boys I trained with and I looked forward to every meeting we had.

“I remember when Felix got eliminated, you had locked Chang Bin out of the dorm just to comfort me. Told me that you’d fight Jin Young the first chance you got if he didn’t bring back Min Ho and Felix. You are part of this group just as much as the boys, even if you don’t promote with us. You are at every domestic concert that you can manage despite school and you never fail to congratulate us every time we get back.

“Every time I catch myself thinking about you, it’s always about how you’re here for us, no matter what the circumstances. You’re always sending us words of encouragement and love. You never get annoyed at the lack of time we have to talk while promoting and you’re always so patient and caring with us. Hell, you’ve practically moved in by this point to make sure we were taking care of ourselves.

“But, what I really wanted to say is-”

“Why the hell are you guys on my laptop?” Chan questioned, his cheeks tinted a brick red as he marched over, snapping the device shut before tucking it under his arm.

His eyes caught your own for a moment and, before you could say anything, he was off. From the front of the dorm, you heard the door bang shut and Chan was off again. Now, you were left with a feeling of wanting to watch the rest of the video or, at the very least, to coax the words from Chan himself. Whether it was him saying he no longer felt the care he did before and he no longer wanted to be friends or something else entirely, you were dying to know.

With silence enveloping the room quickly, the air had become thick with tension before Felix spoke up, a cheery smile on his face and a sound of triumph in his honey voice.

“Well, at least we got to know how Chan feels about Y/N. And I think we all know what his final sentence was going to be,” the Australian male joked, winking at you slyly.

You rolled your eyes, shaking your head as you turned to head out of the room, a simple farewell leaving your lips as you passed by Chang Bin, Woo Jin, and Min Ho on the couch. They had put up no argument or question to your departure and, soon enough, you were out the door and making your way towards your car, heading home to think.

The following week was one of uneventfulness. Unfortunately, you were studying to hell and back for midterms so you didn’t have much time to see the boys in the flesh unless you brought them some quick food or absolutely needed to check in, but the last time you had stopped by was Wednesday, three days prior.

As you finally closed your notebook of notes for Psychology, you got several frantic messages from Chang Bin, Felix, Ji Sung, and Woo Jin and a follow up call made by Min Ho. Answering the call before you read the messages, you were extremely confused when Min Ho began to speak.

“Have you seen Chan? He’s not been back to the dorms since Tuesday and we just got back from scouting the studios and he’s not there either. We didn’t know if he went to your house or not.” Min Ho’s words were frantic and, in turn, got your heart beating quickly as you registered their words.

“I haven’t seen him but I’ll go looking for him. There’s a few other places that he might be that I know of. If he isn’t in those places then I’ll call you guys and, if need be, we can call the police to help us.”

You heard a flurry of thank you’s from the other end before hanging up and rushing to throw on a coat and shoes, grabbing your keys off of the hook by the door and then quickly taking off.

The first place that you had often found Chan when he needed to isolate himself was at a park that was near the previous JYP building. He had a little area he always went to that was undisturbed by others. How he found it, you had no idea, but it always led to you finding him when you couldn’t otherwise.

However, he wasn’t there. This caused a bit of worry, but you knew better than to overreact. After all, there were still a couple of other places for you to look before you had to report back to the rest of the boys or, what would be more likely, continue to search the rest of the surrounding areas for the boy.

The second place that Chan frequented was a music store that was probably about two or three miles away from the new JYP building. Stepping in, you were greeted by Jun Young, a man who had come to know you and Chan quite well over the years. When you asked if the male had stopped in, he frowned and shook his head.

“However,” he stated, stopping you before you could turn, “give this to him when you find him. He stopped in a couple weeks ago and I guess he forgot to pick up the guitar he needed to fix.”

With that, almost like you were in a video game receiving a key item, Jun Young had passed you a pack of guitar picks alongside the case containing the guitar. Thanking the older man, you made your way back out and set the case and picks in your backseat before taking off, finally heading to the last place you could be expected to find him before you double checked the studios.

Closer to the dorms was a place that you often saw Chan frequent but had never actually been there with him. It was a bookstore, plainly enough. Chan seemed to adore the place, always coming out with one book or another on music theory or science fiction. Stepping into the place, you were hit with the smell of books and, while it would be appreciated any other time, the anxiety that had set in your stomach had tried to reject the scent.

Wandering around the store, you searched the aisles thoroughly to ensure that Chan wasn’t, in fact, sitting on the floor and reading a book he had found interest in. When you came up empty, you had to take a deep breath before heading out and back to your car.

“Back to the studio we go,” you mumbled, making the quick trip back to the building before you called for someone to come and meet you.

By the time Woo Jin arrived, alone surprisingly enough, your stomach was twisting in violent knots. You were worried out of your mind at this point and you didn’t know what you would do if you and Woo Jin would come up finding something undesirable.

Staying beside the older male, you followed him to the elevator to take the two of you up to the studios, ready to scout out and see if the missing male was actually hiding away in his safe space.

When you came to the first set of doors, you and Woo Jin split, going through the rooms and hoping to see some sign of life. As you came to the last set, you pushed open the door to see the male stuffed away on a corner of the couch that was in the studio. His head was resting uncomfortably on his shoulder and he was covered with a jacket. On the desk was his open laptop and many boxes of food from the cafe.

Sighing in relief, you turned to see Woo Jin walking towards you, a questioning look on his face. Holding your index finger to your lips, you stepped into the room, saving the track that was open before closing the lid of the laptop and tucking it under your arm. You turned to see Woo Jin slowly talking Chan out of sleep, the 21 year old slowly opening his eyes and showing visible confusion as to why Woo Jin was there.

Walking over, you crouched down as well, setting a hand on his knee as you spoke up, your relief from finding him visible in your eyes.

“Why don’t we get you back to the dorms, Chan? You can get some decent sleep there.”

He only let out a groggy noise of acknowledgement before he sat up, rubbing his eyes with his knuckles. It wasn’t until you had helped him up that he decided to actually move and get around to moving, walking beside you and heading out to the car. Woo Jin had left you to take him back to the dorm, almost foreshadowing the situation that would happen in the car.

As you waited for Chan to situate himself in his seat before passing him his laptop, you stared out the window, letting the silence drape over the two of you. For you, it felt smothering. Like it was grasping your throat and pressing down, waiting for someone to speak. To kill the silence before it killed you, you switched on the radio, letting out a sigh of relief as the choked feeling finally let up.

Just as you went to pull out of the parking lot, Chan finally spoke up, his voice still hoarse and tired.

“How far into the video did you get last week?”

“Video…? Oh! I think we were almost at the end before you came in,” you admitted, the apples of your cheeks taking on a red hue.

You still felt bad for letting the other boys play the video but you had been so interested in what he was saying, along with your own memories from when he was still a trainee, that you had just let it play.

“Do you want to know what I was going to say?” he questioned, his eyes refusing to meet yours as he kept his gaze on his lap.

“I would like that,” you admitted with a shrug. “But you don’t have to tell me if you don’t want to, Chan. You know I wouldn’t ever force you to tell me.”

“I know. You’re horrible at forcing people to do things, even if it’s for the better,” he chuckled a bit. “But, to be honest, I ended that video by telling you I liked you. I have since a couple years ago and… I just haven’t found the courage to tell you before now. That’s why I’ve been pushing away,” he responded, his eyes still on his lap.

“I like you, too, Chan,” you admitted, the red hue becoming darker and spreading down your neck, the heat almost making your eyes water.

“Really?” he questioned, clearly surprised by the reveal.

“I thought I made it obvious enough, but yes, I like you. If it wasn’t for the three year ban I’d probably ask to go on a date the next time you’re free,” you admitted.

“God I hate this three year ban thing now,” he groaned, earning a chuckle from you.

“Well, if we know each other’s feelings for one another, does it really matter? I’m sure we can both withstand 3 years. After all, you’re already almost one year into it.”

“You’re right about that… Do you promise to wait for me, then?”

“I promise, Chan. I don’t think anyone else can make me feel the way you make me feel. I know we just went through a rough patch but… I’m hoping the rest can be relatively smooth sailing from here. No more hiding away from one another, no shutting each other out, no overworking.”

“I can’t agree to that last-”

“Chris.”

“Sorry. No overworking. Got it.”

And so it was settled. The two of you would wait. And so you did. It was a dream at first. Almost a happy ending. You were in love with him and, according to what he told you, he was in love with you as well. Hopefully it would stay that way for a long while.

21. Are there any k-pop songs that you can sing or dance to? If so, which ones?

Yes! I love learning the choreographies! Depending on the songs I only learn the chorus, but there’s a few songs that i learned completely. For singing, I can sing and dance along to “As If It’s Your Last” by Blackpink. It’s one of my all time favourite songs. Currently I’m practicing “Snapping” by Chungha. And I’ve been practicing “Everybody” by SHINee, but haven’t been motivated enough yet akslsdhah. Other than that I know “Bboom Bboom” by Momoland completely, and “Boombayah” and “Kill This Love” also by Blackpink. I probably know some more, but that’s the one’s that stuck with me or that I’ve been working on recently! I hope this didn’t sound like bragging aklsdhhsd🙈

22. Is there an idol you’d like to hug?

I feel like Minho would give me the best hug I’ve ever gotten. Also he’s like….. 30 cms taller than me, so I would feel super protected and smol if he hugged me. 10/10 would hug for the rest of their life 

24. What idol do you think you have the most in common with?

I actually think I have a lot in common with Hani from EXID. I’m not as beautiful as her, but I think personality wise we can be pretty similar. We both often behave in a way that’s seen as masculine but we still rock it and make the best out of it. Also we don’t take ourselves too seriously and can easily laugh about our mistakes. We support our friends and are happy if they succeed, even if that means we aren’t in the spotlight. (that also reminds me of that video of Hani, where Solji couldn’t perform and Hyerin had to cover her high notes. There’s a fancam of Hani sitting at her spot smiling brightly once Hyerin perfectly hit the notes, and she’s even raising her fist a little in a cute victory motion, I don’t know how to explain it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3nfP394gouo) Also we both are easily overcome by emotion and cry, no matter if it’s out of sadness or happy tears. My Biography with BTS: JIN edition

The corner that looks back on the lives of the members from their childhood until debut. The 4th main character after J-HOPE, SUGA, and V is BTS’ oldest hyung, JIN!

A gamer since kindergarten with a lively early childhood.

I was born in Anyang of Gyeonggi province, moving to the neighbouring city of Gwacheon only one or two years later. That’s why my memories start in Gwacheon. Up until just before debut, I didn’t like getting my photo taken, so I barely have any photos of my childhood. It was really hard to find old photos of myself. You know how you have to stay still to take photos? I was really bad at stopping when I heard the words “Wait, let’s take a photo!”

When I was in kindergarten I liked this dinosaur video game that was popular at the time. I loved it. Back then, we only had one console and my brother would always hog it, so I couldn’t play even though I really wanted to. That’s why I love video games even now.

In primary school, I was a very lively child. I’d play with my friends after school, go home for dinner, do homework, then sleep. That was an ordinary day. I had lots of friends too. Since I played every day, I was terrible at my studies. (laughs) The subject I liked most was physical education. The complete opposite to how I am now. (laughs) I liked running and did sports like swimming, tennis, and learned golf from my father, which I liked too. I started snowboarding when my ski-loving father took me along to the ski resort too. My father went on business trips often, but whenever he came home he would take me to do sports as a hobby together. And he also took me overseas a lot. Japan, Europe, Australia… But I don’t really like travelling, so I was mostly coerced to go. (laugh)

I contact my two-year-older brother every day. We play video games together and talk about all kinds of things, so it feels like we’ve gotten closer than when we were kids.

Attending a boys’ middle school and high school resulted in becoming a late bloomer?!

In the first year of middle I really got into gaming and stopped playing outside anymore. (laughs) I’d spend all of the summer holidays playing at the internet café with my friends.

My best friends are my middle school friends. There were four of us in our group, but we went to different high schools. We’d go to valleys in the summer holidays and snowboarding in the winter ones. We still contact each other every day, sharing dad jokes with each other. (laugh)

The music I liked was Lee Seung-gi’s Delete, KCM’s 흑백사진 (Black and White Photo), the Turtles’ Airplane. I listened to BUZZ’s songs the most, and I liked rock ballads even now.

Both my middle school and high school were boys’ schools. That’s why I had no points of contact with girls for six years and couldn’t look at girls in the eye in university. I’d avoid eye contact while saying “Hey, how’s it going?” (laughs) I made friends with an easy-going girl in university and eventually overcame that. She would hit me while saying “Make eye contact when you speak!” But I still hung out with my male friends more. (laughs)

Scouted onto the path of a singer, earnestly working on songwriting!

During my first year of high school, my dream was to become a newspaper reporter. I wanted to help the socially disadvantaged and would read the editorial column of the newspaper every day. I started to dream of becoming an actor when I saw Kim Nam-gil in the drama “Queen Seondeok” during the second year of high school. I was so touched, I wanted to act in a way that could bring someone to tears too. That was why I chose to major in film studies for university.

Three months after I enrolled, I was scouted by BigHit and became a trainee. The three rappers were already there, and JUNGKOOK joined two days after me. I went to the practice room one day and saw a kid with Bambi eyes sitting all curled up. When I asked “…Who are you?” he stood up and said “Ah! My name is Jeon Jungkook!” Even when I told him he could sit down he would say “No! I’m fine!” (laughs) The one who left the deepest first impression on me was RM, who was practicing his dancing. It was the first time in my life I was seeing someone practicing dance, so I thought “Wow, it’s a trainee. How cool.”

The trainee life was fun. We would go out and eat together between practices. I actually liked dancing during those times too. After I debuted, I would be told “Your dancing is bad”, which made me lose confidence… But because ARMY would tell me “It’s cute!” and “You did well!” I regained my confidence and was able to keep dancing until now.

I like my life right now and am satisfied with being in BTS. I only began to feel interest towards music after meeting the other members. I’d never imagine myself songwriting music back when we first debuted. Because of the influence I received from the other members, I’ve been songwriting until now. It’s not enough to be used on the albums, but I’m told it’s good and will continue working hard on it.

I’d act if the opportunity ever presented itself. V’s the one acting right now, so I’m satisfied with just that. My current priority is to get better at singing and performing, and have lots of concerts. It’s exhausting, but it’s really fun.

My 2 cents worth on Warrior Baek Dong Soo

First off, I need to issue a  *** SPOILER ALERT ***! So, if you haven't watched the series yet, then please DO NOT continue reading if you don't want any clues as to what happens or how it ends. I'll try not to give too much away, but some things just need to be mentioned to explain why I feel about this series the way I do.

From other comments and blogs I've read, it seems that opinions are vastly divided into 2 categories - those who LOVED this series and those who HATED it. There doesn't seem to be much middle-ground at all. I'm slightly in the middle, but leaning strongly toward the group that ended up hating it. Why? Well, for several reasons...and I know I'll probably get "yelled at" by people who loved the series, but these are just my personal thoughts on it and I hope you will allow me to be entitled to my own opinion, just as you are entitled to yours.

That said, I actually had planned NOT TO watch it at all, after I'd come across a music video that showed clips of the final episode. But then again, I really wanted to see it since it starred 2 of my favorite actors, Hong Jong-Hyun (as Prince Heir/King Jeongjo) and Yoo Seung-Ho (as Yeo Woon). On one hand I'm almost glad I knew what would happen, on the other hand it felt like watching the Titanic movie and hoping that the ship would NOT sink at the end...and we all know how that turned out, right?

Part of what really bothered me about this series was the way it portrayed Baek Dong-Soo who, according to the description in Wikipedia.org, was an actual historical figure and Korean folk hero. Not sure how accurate any historical account of him are, but in the first 5 episodes of the series Baek Dong-Soo is portrayed first as a big-mouth, know-it-all, "full-of-himself" kid who likes to (as we say around here) "let his alligator moth override his hummingbird a**", or more politically correct, likes to "talk the talk but can't walk the walk". After all, 17 fights - 17 losses against Yeo Woon (according to their friend Yang Cho-Rip's count in episode 5) isn't really anything to brag about. And by the time the boys are in their 20s in episode 6, that count is up to 1378 to 0 wins in favor of Yeo Woon, while Baek Dong-Soo's character is still bragging about his own capabilities...and not only in front of his friends, but also in front of his teachers and elders. To me personally, this became more than just a little annoying and actually made me stop watching the series for quite some time.

(On a side-note here and to give him at least some credit, Dong-Soo did also do some good deeds in those earlier episodes, like saving Jin-Joo from the burning building and saving Cho-Rip from drowning, but for me that didn't quite make up for his otherwise arrogant character).

Eventually I broke down and, even knowing that I would absolutely HATE the ending, watched the remaining episodes. Luckily, starting at episode 16, the character of Baek Dong-Soo had become more likeable and more "grown-up" after having been trained by the "Sword Saint".

I know I'm not the only one whose favorite character in the series was and still is Yeo Woon. And even knowing what would happen in the end, I found myself holding out hope that Woon would be turned back from the assassin's path.

There has been a lot of discussion about what caused Yeo Woon to "turn to the dark side" (choose the path of an assassin) to begin with and most people like to lay blame for it solely on Woon's drunk, abusive father. But - again at the danger of getting "yelled at" - I have to lay some blame for this on Dong-Soo. WHAT IF, in episode 3 when Woon asked Dong-Soo to be friends with him and even the girl, Jin-Joo, suggested that they should be friends, Dong-Soo hadn't just simply rejected him? Would things maybe have turned out different? Not sure how accurate the translation is as, "Hey...do you think that I, Baek Dong-Soo, make friends with just anybody?", but I know it really made me cringe. I actually felt myself enjoying the fact that Dong-Soo got his butt kicked, every time he picked another fight with Yeo Woon. And later on in the series, when both of them are grown and Dong-Soo realizes that Woon had become part of the Heuksa Chorong assassin's guild, he promises Woon several times that he wouldn't "give up on him", but somehow it seemed to me that he didn't try hard enough to keep that promise. Of course Dong-Soo didn't realize until much too late that Woon had been helping him all along, but if you're truly trying to save a friend, you have to give it your all, no matter what!

Even having previously seen a clip of the ending, I still had a few minutes of real enjoyment in the final episode when everything seemed to have been worked out. But that quickly turned into total shock when the absolute LAST person I would ever have suspected (Yang Cho-Rip) was the one to mess it all up again. And if that wasn't bad enough, then Yeo Woon's own Heuksa Chorong people who, until then, had loyally followed every one of his orders, acted on their own and made matters even worse with a failed effort to protect Woon, which ultimately led to the terrible ending.

So overall, this series has so far been my absolute LEAST favorite of the Kdramas I have watched, and if it hadn't been for Yoo Seung-Ho's superb performance (and also Park Gun-Tae as the younger version of Yeo Woon), I would not have kept watching until the end and saved myself several boxes of tissues.

3. Who is your ultimate bias and why?VIXX’s Hongbin is my ultimate bias, because he is such a squishy bean and a total sweetheart. I love that he tries to enjoy every moment and also precious the small things in life. That he not really seems like an idol due to  being himself, a human being with feelings and worries like everyone else. And not to forget about his beautiful and gigantic smile. Meine Grinsebacke. ♥ Maybe this is the gamer speaking out of me, but I love his passion for videogames and I’m living for his sassy and cheeky comments towards his hyungs. xDDHe just seems like a good-hearted person to me with who I would get along well.  

4. Has a k-pop song or music video ever made you cry?Yes, BOL4′s 나의 사춘기에게 has made me cry and always brings me to the verge of tears. ♥
