Hello JeanMarco fandom? Are you there? This is the fandom of 2020 telling you it’s time to come back to the series if only for a month.

It’s been 84 years but Jean finally learning the dark truth of Marco’s death topped our list of favorite moments with over one-third of the fandom selecting it (35.7%). “Yelena the shit stirrer” was second with 20.6%.This Jean-focused chapter netted Jean the third and fourth favorite spot as well. “Jean and Magath’s argument” and “Jean’s idealistic daydream” tied for third with 7.9% each.

The biggest highlight of the chapter definitely has to be Jean punching Reiner upon learning that the latter was responsible for Marco's death. Ever since the truth about Marco's death was revealed a while back, I was awaiting the scene of Jean learning the truth about Marco's death and how he would react towards Reiner regarding it

Why is nobody talking about Yelena and Pieck pleaseeeee

I didn’t think it was possible to love Jean more than I already did but this chapter proved me wrong. I was so glad he finally learned what happened to Marco and at least got that closure.

Loved Yelena messing with everyone's emotions and calling out the truths that nobody wanted to recognize

Jean punching Reiner was my favorite moment of the chapter. Finally that evil fuck is getting what he deserves for what he's done.

The only people Yelena didn’t drag were Pieck and Falco. She has good taste.

I actually found Jean’s dream sequence to be a little unsettling, maybe because of Isayama’s style of not drawing certain facial features clearly, like the eyes. It was almost more foreboding to me than sweet, peaceful, or nice to see.

My favorite moment was the reaction shot where Mikasa was going to charge Annie and everyone is freaking out but the last panel is Levi just sleeping.

With Jean receiving the bulk of the focus and development it’s not a huge surprise that Jean (66.2%) was the landslide winner for chapter MVP, with Yelena (9.9%) as a distant, and we mean distant, second. What is a surprise is that Hange’s culinary creation (9.7%) beat out Hange themself (8.9%) for the number 3 spot.

I already knew that Hange was a queen, but I'm genuinely surprised with Annie too. While the first made a big part of the fandom shut up (genocide is never justifiable) the second one admitted her crimes and understood Mikasa better than anyone.

DO YOU THINK THE GIRL IN JEAN’S DAYDREAM WAS MIKASA? 1,943 responses

Was it Mikasa? Was it a girl with exactly the same hairstyle and scar who just happens to look like an older version of her? Most fans seem to think it was very clearly intended to be Mikasa with solid numbers. Or at the very least, considering the eyes were hidden (a common manga trope to confuse identities), proof that Jean has a definite type.

That woman in Jean's fantasy is very clearly Mikasa, you can even see the scar in one of the panels lol

I think it isn't exactly Mikasa, but Jean *does* have a type and Mikasa heavily influenced it by being his big crush back when all his hormones were firing at 200%.

WHICH STATEMENT DO YOU MOST AGREE WITH REGARDING HANGE’S ANSWER TO JEAN ABOUT GENOCIDE BEING INHERENTLY WRONG? 1,939 responses

Nearly half of respondents (45.1%) agree with Hange that genocide is non-negotiably wrong. However, those that said in certain circumstances it is perhaps unavoidable if one’s enemies are intent upon it (16.6%) or it truly is the last resort (29.9%), responded in numbers too large to be dismissed. Those that claimed it was unabashedly a good thing, lag behind (8.5%). The results of this question would seem to indicate that even the fans that support Eren’s actions are doing so, for the most part, reluctantly; because that's the only way they see Paradis surviving.

Hating on Hange puzzles me, I understand people who support the rumbling, but saying she is bad for wanting to stop the killing of billions is just frustrating to me.

I'm tired of negativity flowing from fanbase. Everyone would like to see genocide; blood and rotten bodies of innocent people, but even Eren doesn't want that!

Genocide is morally and ethically wrong as hanje said which I agree with. What I don't agree with is her acceptance that once eren dies the eldians on paradis are gonna genocide within a few years. That fact that she hadn't thought of anyway to get around this is disappointing.

If it was Isayama’s Intention to make me feel bad for the rest of the world, he should have focused on it for a larger portion of the story cause honestly, they all can burn in hell for all I care. Innocent or not.

While Hange has been proven to be a trustworthy character, one with 11/10 intelligence and someone who knew and worked with Erwin on the daily for years and years, and certainly knew him better than anyone aside from Levi, only a third of respondents (36.7%) trust Hange’s judgement on this.

This was definitely a Jean chapter, am I right? At 48.8 percent, Jean definitely won the debate according to most fans. In fact, poor Magath didn’t even get a result worth mentioning; ‘neither’ or ‘Hange’ both got reasonable responses, but this was unarguably a slapdown for Jeanbo!

Jean slapped Magath. Bonus points for including that they were totally ignorant even after the walls were attacked.

The argument of "Who is the real bad guy" was a circular "You're the bad guys!" "No u!" "NO U!" -- but by the end of the chapter, all of the arguing characters put aside their differences as they ~left the forest~

Early in the chapter, Mikasa surprises Hange and Jean by stating without hesitation that she will help stop Eren, but when Annie forces her to confront how far she is willing to go, she is clearly reluctant to take extreme measures. Almost half of the respondents (49.1%) believe that this is something Mikasa will never be able to do, with a decently close remainder of respondents saying either yes, she could bring herself to do it (29.1%), or opting not to decide (21.8%).

Proof if proof were needed of how impossible this particular subject is to predict right now; Mikasa’s strong feelings for Eren haven’t faded even though she has consistently demonstrated an opposition to his goals, and the poor girl is being torn to pieces. However, those that think Mikasa will ultimately be unable to bring herself to stop him if it means killing him are in the majority here. It’s still anyone’s bet though.

In this writer's opinion, I always bet on Annie winning their original first fight even though I was (and am) a massive Mikasa fan. Now though, I definitely agree with the majority of those who answered this question. That first fight might be debatable but this second one wouldn’t even be a contest. Mikasa has just had years more of training and growth, and we don’t even know if being in the crystal for so long has left Annie weakened in any way. 63% of respondents think this is Mikasa’s fight to win.

I think Yelena's motivations for following Zeke are partly spiritual. She mentions his titan being godlike, and follows Zeke around like a disciple.

This question had an interesting response, because it was expectedly divided, but not in the way one might have guessed. 34.9% of you said it’s irrelevant whose crimes are greater, 34.1% said that it’s about equal, 30.2% said that the Warriors are most at fault, and only 0.8% of respondents said that the 104th were most at fault. When we see talk of blame, or right and wrong, we normally see a very even split—especially when it comes to Eren, so this is an interesting outcome!

A clean 31% of you think that Yelena was “just taking the piss”, by bringing up everybody’s past, and I had to google what that British (Australian?) nonsense means, but hey, you learn something new every day. Following just behind that at 30.7%, you guys said that she wanted to create more conflict for an unspecified reason. 27.6% of you said that she was just venting frustrations, while only 10.7% thought she actually wanted to help Zeke, and bring everyone together to stop Eren.

WAS JEAN JUSTIFIED IN ATTACKING REINER LIKE THAT? 1,894 responses

Almost three quarters of people thought Jean was justified in giving Reiner a walloping, largely for killing Marco (36.7%), but also to knock sense into Reiner (21.6%). 15.6% thought it was justified but that Jean took it too far, and a fraction fewer (15.2%) thought both guys have been justified in their actions. Just 6% thought the beating wasn’t justified at all, as we readers are well aware of Reiner’s feelings of guilt already. We the audience know Reiner's entire backstory but Jean does not, hence why we feel more sympathy for Reiner than Jean does to him.

I'd say neither is truly 'justified', but it was an emotional purging they both needed. Jean for his anger over what and who Reiner's taken from him, and Reiner getting what he feels he must receive for what he's done.

HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT MAGATH STOPPING HIMSELF FROM EXTENDING A HAND TO GABI? 1,886 responses

Magath is a complicated fellow isn’t he? He seems to treat Eldians better than most but has trouble getting over his own prejudices regarding them. Most of you seem to think it was character progression (56%) that he reached out to help Gabi in that moment as a man, instead of as her commanding officer. We shall have to see if Magath’s attitude continues to soften, and if so, could it potentially be a microcosm of the world’s attitude to Eldians in general?

Magath begins to have a real compassion for warriors, especially towards Gabi (already in one of the previous chapters, he had given her a hug).

Gabi apologized to the Devils, she asked them for help. Magath realized that Gabi is not a brainwashed fanatical degenerate anymore, even she is not on his side.

He doesn't know how to react to this because Hange's words from earlier struck him deeply.

When not arguing with Jean, Magath was flabbergasted all the time about Eldians being more human instead of devils he thought them to be, so idk, this reaction kind of goes hand in hand with all that. He's kind of realising they're human as well and he's afraid of feeling compassion for them.

HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT JEAN'S TREATMENT OF GABI AFTER THE ACCIDENTAL KICK? 1,905 responses

Gave the kick moment a 3. +4 because Jean is amazing, but -1 because Gabi should have gotten worse.

It really shows what a great character Gabi is because she can continue for vengeance but she is being a bigger person and choosing a more moral path.

Does Isayama read our posts? You might be forgiven for thinking so, considering the campfire discussions focused on so many different angles; the complexity of the situation was nailed, and the winner was Jean knowing Eren’s actions are best for the island but still morally wrong (35.1%), but Yelena’s little dialogue was appreciated enough to come a close second (31%). This was the moment where all of us felt like our view was taken on board however, and it was brilliantly done.

I wonder if Isayama actively collected all fandom ideas, because he NAILED it. Well, he did his part, right? In showing the complexity of the situation. He can't change the fandom's minds, but he can put his message out there.

Annie confronting Mikasa only to immediately back off, what she pointed out made sense, and yet they didn't even discuss what to do if Eren couldnt be persuaded to stop genocide.

This chapter was a beautiful reflection of the community's arguments.

Super excited for next chapter! It was good exposition and a good setup for an epic fight! I also kind of hope that now that they've figured out the trick to stop fighting and finding diplomatic ways that they don't directly resort to violence but at least try to find a way to talk with the Jaegerists. If they don't try to talk and find a way around then the lessons learned won't have meant a thing. I'm super happy with the direction of the story

Since the end of the second world war, japan was reconstructed almost entirely by young people, so probably this story will end showing that with some analogy. making that previous statement, i think it won’t be eren, or any of the older characters, since they lived and did the horrors they did and must somehow pay for it(and specially the PTSD most would have, so they’ll be probably incapacitated in some way), i think it will be Gabi, or maybe Falco or someone else, because they are just lost, Gabi changed her mind and personality so well(progress, developed it), so that’s why i think it would or maybe even should be her. am i expecting too much from Isayama?

Doctor Who! The children’s own show that adults adore.

Doctor Who, as a format, requires an intrinsic joyfulness in its stories to be so adored. If adventures become too continually grim, or not sufficiently fun, then ultimately there’ll be a tipping point where it becomes implausible for the story to continue. Why, ultimately, would the character keep travelling if they weren’t enjoying it? And even if they did, would this be something that would sustain a family audience?

It’s not that you can’t have darkness in Doctor Who, it’s just that it can’t be sustained and eventually something has to give. As such, there’s an inherent optimism in a lot of Doctor Who, even in episodes where it isn’t high in the mix. For the show to make sense, there has to be some hope that wrongs can be righted.

For example: even though William Hartnell’s Doctor starts off trying break his own programme by getting rid of Ian and Barbara as quickly as possible, the show quickly settles into “a great spirit of adventure”; the Second Doctor comforting a grieving Victoria by pointing out that “nobody else in the universe can do what we’re doing” followed by the Doctor letting Victoria leave the TARDIS because it’s the best thing for her. In both cases, the gesture is one of compassion. The Fourth Doctor refers to Sarah Jane Smith as his best friend and she only leaves because he has to go somewhere she can’t (His home planet of Gallifrey, something that on original broadcast had more dramatic weight as he’d only visited it once before in the series and then been forced into regeneration and exile).

When Russell T. Davies relaunched the show in 2005, the unspoken idea became explicit. “Can I just say: travelling with you…I love it,” says Rose Tyler, who – despite portentous trailer statements – survived her travels. In episodes of The Sarah Jane Adventures Russell T. Davies expanded on the Tenth Doctor’s victory lap in ‘The End of Time‘ to make it more celebratory, giving past companions happy endings (some in stark contrast to their grim fates in Nineties’ spin-off media). The departures of Rose and Donna are tragic, but the journeys to get there are framed in terms of joy and excitement.

The next showrunner, Steven Moffat, preferred happy endings. Companions had previously been married off (Susan, Vicki, Jo, Leela, Peri) as they left the show. Amy Pond got married and stayed, travelling with her husband. This was a leap forward, but unfortunately the following series’ pregnancy storyline was handled poorly and attempts to deal with its repercussions were not successful either. Clara, the next companion, dared to be like the Doctor but unlike Donna managed to both die and have a happy ending.

Moffat enjoyed Immortal LGBT+ Women Having Adventures in Space so much that he used it again for Bill Potts in Series 10. An important aspect of both characters’ storylines is that they suffer a terrible fate, but the version of Doctor Who in which companions die is rejected in favour of one where they get what they live happily ever after. Moffat, a comedy writer to his core, was unwilling to make Doctor Who a story where travelling on the TARDIS left you in a worse place. Davies also tried to give his companions happy endings of sorts to ameliorate their loss.

If we look at the populist peaks of the show, Doctor Who has never been overwhelmingly cynical. Whenever it’s been taken in a darker direction it usually rejects that approach in favour of a lighter balance. In Season 21 the show put its characters through a series of almost unrelenting grimness (‘The Awakening’, the story where a demonic entity attempts to get an entire village to slaughter each other is the light and fluffy one) culminating in the Fifth Doctor’s heroic regeneration story ‘The Caves of Androzani’– voted the best Doctor Who story in several polls – where the Doctor goes to extreme lengths to save his companion and distances himself from the violence that surrounds him.

And then in the next story ‘The Twin Dilemma’, the Sixth Doctor strangles his companion.

Taking ‘Grimdark’ storytelling to mean stories in which violence and misery is perpetuated throughout the story universe in a seemingly never-ending cycle, that period in the show’s history is a perfect example of it. Why diminish one of the finest stories ever by immediately negating the heroism involved? Why would you have the main character reject the violence that he’d become a part of only to immediately embrace it again? Among the many problems it means we have a Doctor/companion relationship that seems grim at best. Why would you keep travelling with someone who strangled you, refused to apologise and then continually harangues and shouts at you? I don’t watch Doctor Who to see the companion trapped in an abusive relationship. I also don’t think it’s a coincidence that the ratings went down as the production team systematically removed as much hope from the show as possible, ridding it of that great spirit of adventure. After ‘The Twin Dilemma’,the show was put on hiatus, and ultimately cancelled.

Which brings me to the current version of the show.

I don’t think Jodie Whittaker is miscast or that the current version of the show is woke nonsense – which is a relief because I think using the phrase ‘woke nonsense’ unironically is quite the red flag. I think that the enthusiasm Jodie Whittaker has for the part hasn’t been used well, because we currently have a Doctor who is great at showing unabashed joy travelling the universe, but whose stories lean towards grimdark and don’t give her anything approaching ‘Everybody lives!’

One of the most lauded episodes in Series 11 is ‘Rosa’, which was co-written by Malorie Blackman and showrunner Chris Chibnall. In it, the TARDIS crew see Rosa Parks in the run-up to her being arrested for violating segregation laws, and need to stop Krasko – a mass murderer from the future – interfering in this event and stopping it from happening.

The inclusion of Krasko makes an interesting and depressing point in this story, and I’d be fascinated to know the villain’s development in the writing process. For what we have here is a story about an important act of defiance that changed human history, and is celebrated for its impact, alongside an acknowledgement that there will still be racists in the future. In fact, there will be racists who murder 2,000 people in the future. Racism and its associated violence is not, the episode says, going to go away.

In isolation this might seem like optimism tempered with caution, but since Chris Chibnall became showrunner, edgy, provocative ideas have crept in and given stories a cynical edge. Small moments have a cumulative effect, such as Epzo’s story about his mother in ‘The Ghost Monument’, Robertson surviving ‘Arachnids in the UK’ without learning any moral lessons and indeed likely to cause more suffering, ‘Kerblam!’ ending with the system that blew up an innocent woman being allowed to continue (while closing the warehouse for four weeks and offering employees two weeks’ holiday pay), Daniel Barton escaping freely in ‘Spyfall’ while the Doctor wipes the memories of someone doomed to die, ‘Orphan 55’ shows us the unavoidable destruction of the human race, as does ‘Ascension of the Cybermen’. Under Moffat, we had some episodes ending with cynical quips that left a bad taste in the mouth, but under Chibnall the bad taste is there before the outro quip.

Series 11 showed us a joyful Doctor in a nasty universe, and the latter regularly overwhelms the former, but at least ended with Graham and Ryan clearly rejecting murder as a solution. Series 12 was less focussed on real-world evils, and uses them on the fringes of its storytelling (with the Doctor now seemingly embroiled in the universe’s cynicism, using Nazis to imprison a Master now played by a British Indian actor), but we’re still getting real issues reflected back at us along with the message that the Doctorcannot sort this, which is based on the false assumption that this is what Doctor Who is for.

I hope that this is building towards a reversal, that the Thirteenth Doctor gets her Androzani moment where she gets to take a stand against everything that she’s seen. However, we have now had a fully grimdark finale as the lasting impression of Doctor Who for nine months. ‘The Timeless Children’ has proven controversial for its approach to continuity; as well as the retcon of the Doctor’s history this was a ‘Twin Dilemma’(also the last story in its season) to ‘The Day of the Doctor’s Androzani. The heroism is now nullified. When we watch ‘The Day of the Doctor’and the day is saved at the end of the story, now we know all the Doctor has done is defer those deaths (those two billion children’s deaths) and the cycle of violence will continue. At the end of ‘The Timeless Children’the following is presented to us as the good guys winning:

The heroine cannot bring herself to destroy the animated corpses of her entire species, so Joe from Derry Girls has to do it for her. An entire planet now a lifeless husk. The main character’s centuries of trauma are revealed. Their best friend is now a genocidal maniac.

This is Doctor Who in 2020: violent, cynical, cyclical. A mirror when it should be a window. If Series 13 repeats these trends then I fear history may repeat itself once more. But then, what is Doctor Who mostly about if not seeing a cycle of oppression and then breaking it?

I don’t think anyone should die. But they can fuck off to nowhere and don’t ever talk to me again. They are voting for a guy who rather goes and hide in a bunker than stand with poc and protect them. They are voting for a guy who makes it’s own country pay for an unnecessary wall instead of putting that money into healthcare so that people would not have to pay for ambulances. They are voting for a guy who puts young easily traumatised children in cages without their parents anywhere near because they stepped foot in the country he leads. They are voting for a guy they believe will help the economy but has declared bankrupcy 6 times and has done the worst out of all countries during Covid-19. They are voting for a guy who spent money helping Jeffery Epstein’s child trafficking. Don’t get me started on what easy shit he won’t even try to do for LGBTQ+ rights. And women, who he sees as nothing more than sex objects he is allowed to touch without their consent.

Any and every Trump supporter is a selfish human being who believe every word he says despite being proven wrong and wrong again. You just need 5 minutes on social media to see thousands of reasons he is an unfit president.

Imagine putting your country in the hands of someone with so little brains that he is now questioning why he isn’t getting a lot of votes by mailed-in ballots when he told his audience not to do that for months.

But yes, let’s vote for him because he lowered some taxes you are spending on a FREAKING PIECE OF BRICK. Instead of healthcare which is needed way more.

A woman who voted for Trump actually said she voted because he treats everyone the same shitty way... she thought that was equality.

He’s also a guy who wanted to stop the counting of votes even though EVERY vote should count. He is trying to make your country in a dictatorship. He was/is working on changing the rules so that he would stay in house after 2024. He is trying to kill democracy.

And that great economy trump supporters like to use as a ‘valid’ reason consists of yes, having a lot of people keep their job, if only these jobs weren’t for fucking companies that are destroying and hurting the environment.

You are asking for people not to say that they hope Trump supporters will die, when voting for Trump is hurting a lot more people than some speech on the internet.

First off, You are valid in your opinion and are very much allowed to feel the way that you do.

I want to address some of the points that were made.

1. What do mean be he was hiding in his bunker? What was the issue you were citing because I'm not with it today 😅 work frazzles me.

2. The issue with the border wall and the cages are complicated because of the gang related activity involved. Ms13, cartel, and other bad individuals bring drugs and humans over the border to sell and traffic. Many of those "families" may not even be families. It could be a man bringing a child to traffic in the us. Those men are called "coyotes" I do think a wall is a bit crazy, but necesary against something of this magnitude.

3. And as a Trump supporter, I do not believe every word he says. I'm not completely blind to his faults. He said he wasn't touching social security and then I read a couple articles of which SS is on the budget of things to cut. So I get it, but like I said, with what research we do, we do like the things that he promises that he does keep to. Like providing more jobs and helping our economy. And yes, I agree that his Twitter posts can be crass. A lot. I feel that he's a very crass, but we have to remember that he wasn't a politician, he was an business man and an entertainer. He likes attention, which is what he gets by making those tweets. I think when he actually tries, which he was very successful at the last debate, he can be a better president.

4. The bankruptcy and the Epstein situation, I'm with you. He said that he distanced himself from Epstein a long time ago and judging by there weren't any recent pictures of the two, I believe it, but the fact that they were friends in the first place makes me feel sick.

5. And yes, the mail in votes were expected to be mostly Democrat because yes, trump did in fact tell his voters to vote in person, which if you heard there were issues with the in person polling booths. People saying that they weren't working and to leave them with pollers. People didn't trust that and stayed in line and suddenly it working after several hours. That sounds just a little sus to me.

In my opinion, yes, every counts, but if you are mailing in your vote, you should plan to send it early so that it makes it in time. If it doesn't make it by Nov 3, than it shouldn't count.

And if we are talking little brains, Joe Biden is not the best comparison. Considering that he thought he was running for Senate, waved to an empty field, said "hello Minnesota" when he was in Florida and played despacito in his phone.

6. Concerning covid, I don't think joe Biden would have done much better. Not a lot of evidence shows that he would have.

We can't just lock everybody down, that's impossible. People have bills, and jobs that need to be done. Suicide rates jumped, depression jumped. For the economies sake, we needed to open. Yes people died, and i really am sympathic. But it didn't help that Cuomos idea of trying to help was putting covid patients in nursing homes, which infected and killed many elderly people and actively refusing to wear masks even under threat of fines which probably doesn't bother him one bit. There are mistakes in both parties concerning this matter.

7. Trump isn't trying to kill democracy. I haven't seen anything about him killing democracy, however, I did see on kamala Harris's Twitter her outright supporting communism! Which I am completely against! The video she posted equity is not equality. Watch it and it is pretty much the definition of communism which sounds good on paper but never in execution.

8. There are plenty of other positions in gov that have done the same thing in keeping life positions. I do not agree with this and believe that it should be limited to terms.

And I don't believe his next four years would hurt as many people as you say that it would. 8 years of the Obama presidency probably hurt people more than trumps 4 years. That's just my stance on it from my perspective. I remember the government shutting down constantly, 5$ a gallon gas, the bombing in foreign countries and also his influence on racial tensions.

Now, you are entitled to feel however you want to feel. That's the beauty of America. In another country, these criticisms in our conversation wouldn't be tolerated. I do believe wholeheartedly that we should protect that with everything we have. And that's why I love these conversations.

I get to hear what you have to say and how you feel, and i can also express to you the same. If there are problems, we can try to find a way to fix them. Stay strong, peacefully and work together to make it fair.

But I think a lot of the problem is the anger or hate, as it comes of as. The aggression, be senseless violence... It doesn't make people want to support that cause! I believe that black lives matter. I believe that lgbtq lives matter. They all matter so much, but this violence, this damage is not getting the message across. It's scaring people. It's chaotic.

Warning, long post. TL/DR at bottom.

Okay so I've got a real hot take about the primaries.

And I'm just gonna stress this now. This is by no means fact checkable and is closer to a conspiracy theory than like, an actual reality we need to worry about. So please don't come at me for spreading false news. This isn't news. Its just a theory.

But I high key think our elections have been rigged again.

In short: my theory is that the obscene number of people that were running for the primaries who have since dropped out, never ACTUALLY wanted to run. They were just there to collect and hand over votes to Biden.

And I know that sounds nuts but let me walk you through my thought process here.

1- Not a single person I've spoken to or heard of, either in person or online, has said they wanted to vote for Biden. He was literally no ones first choice. Even the more conservative centrist end of people were saying Bloomberg before Biden.

2- a common joke amongst late night hosts has been just how ridiculous it was that sooooooo many people were running and how no one was willing to back down or quit, even when they had no chance.

3- Beyond just your pride, which will hurt either way, dropping out after voting has already started makes no sense. Spending all the time, money, and resources, on a presidential campaign for months if not years, just to drop out in the first week of the primaries makes no sense. At that point it's not like you can get your money back. So why drop out at that point?

Dropping out just before, when you see your polling low, makes sense. Cause it means not splitting the vote. But after? That means people that already voted for you don't really get the chance to vote their second choice. Their votes are basically just given to whoever you endorse.

Which brings me to

4- Pretty much every candidate who has dropped out after voting began has given their delegates to Biden. Like, even the ones who had basically nothing in common with his campaign. Even the ones who said they hated him the whole time they were "against" each other. And even the ones who claimed to be more progressive and aligned with Bernie when discussing their views and plans.

And I know I'm not the only one who has noticed this cause I've seen the memes, as well as the serious posts, all talking about how ridiculous it is for the media to claim Warrens delegates should go to Biden "cause he was the 2nd choice for most of her voters". Like no. He wasn't. She was Bernie's direct competition. They had incredibly similar campaigns. Warren and Biden had NOTHING in common policy wise.

5- The web domain for Bernie sanders currently redirects you to a donation page for Biden. Like You click the link thinking its for Bernie, and the only way to figure out your actually donating to Biden instead is to scroll up first or see it after you've already donated.

These above factors, mixed with a variety of other little things that just don't add up, have me pretty convinced there's something shady going on.

And the most probable cause in my opinion is a rigged election.

I know that seems like it would be hard to do. But honestly its pretty simple.

Copious choice splits the vote. Which makes it easier for them. So that was step one.

Then step two. Misleading voters into thinking these planted candidates are more progressive, which seeds false security by making them think they will endorse Bernie or another progressive candidate if they do drop out.

Step three is collect votes and delegates early on then drop out and give them to Biden. All of a sudden Biden has all the delegates and is somehow winning despite a huge portion of that being votes he didn't actually earn himself.

Step four will be people giving up and letting him win the primaries. They are literally already trying to end the primaries early and hand the win to Biden as I type this up.

And honestly.

I don't think step 5 will even be giving Biden the presidency. I don't think he's involved at all actually. I wholeheartedly think it'll be giving it to trump.

I think rigging the primaries in favor of Biden is jist phase one in a two part plan to get Trump re elected. And here's why:

1- Our last elections were hacked by the russians in trumps favor and there was literally 0 backlash for that for either of them.

2- Trump and his team just learned that they literally can get away with anything including trying to rig elections. He literally was impeached for this and got away with it. Soooo why shouldn't he do it if he knows its allowed for him?

3- There's no real know incentives for anyone with the ability to rig elections to rig them in the dems favor. The agenda of rigging elections is gaining power and money and it can only be done if you have some of that already. And who do the rich powerful people want to be in charge? Not Biden. And for SURE not Bernie.

4- Speaking of the impeachment trial.

Remember way back when the whole impeachment case story broke? Remember people making jokes about the fact that trump chose Biden of all people to get dirt on? Remember people thinking it was ridiculous cause there was no way he was gonna win the primaries?

Well. This is adding an extra layer of conspiracy to this conspiracy theory. But what if the plan to rig the election was already being formed back then?

What if Trump knew that Biden would eventually be the one running against him because he knew it would be rigged as such?

And I know your wondering why they would want Biden to be the one against trump as opposed to any of the other guys.

Well. Have y'all read the responses to the primaries so far? Everyone hates Biden. Like yeah we hate trump more. But I've already seen posts of people saying voting for Biden would be "just as bad".

I'm seeing people lose hope in Bernie winning or their voices being heard. And I'm seeing in fighting amongst people who are mad their first choice didn't win. All of this means potentially low voter turn out.

Especially amount younger more progressive voters who have taken a "Bernie or Bust" mentality.

And we know what happened when we take that stance. Cause its the same one that happened last time.

I know Hillary wasn't a perfect person or candidate either. And I too would have preferred Bernie in the last election.

But all that: "she's just as bad" "my votes don't count anyway" "id rather vote 3rd party than her" "Bernie or Bust"

All that.

Is how he won last time.

So all I'm saying is. Them rigging primaries in favor of a candidate they know most of the democratic voter base actually hates, makes it a lot easier to secure trump gets re-elected.

And the people potentially being pissed that Bernie lost primaries twice in a row wont help.

Even if my whole crazy theory is wrong. Even if their is no real evil plot being done here. That last point still stands.

If by some bizarre twist of fate. Biden wins the primaries. Be it honestly or by stealing delegates from the drop outs. He's still better than Trump.

Be prepared for that other shoe to drop.

Be prepared for the memes and social discourse trying to convince you not to vote or to throw away your vote on a 3rd party.

Be prepared for what ever dirt trump was trying to get on him to be released.

And know that he will STILL no matter what. Be better than Trump.

And in case I am right. And we are in the middle of an attempted coup.

Then this next part becomes twice as important.

If you live in a state that hasn't voted yet. PLEASE show up for Bernie.

I hate telling people how to vote. But mathematically speaking the only possible outcomes at this stage are Biden or Bernie. So for the love of god stop wasting votes on the other guys. Its almost as bad as voting third party for the actual election.

Plus if I'm right there's a 50/50 chance of those underdog votes being party of the conspiracy and going to Biden in the end.

If Biden really is your 2nd choice then fine. This doesn't apply to you.

But if you hate Biden and you prefer the more progressive stances, and your hoping for someone similar to Bernie, then just fucking vote Bernie.

Cause we learned from Warren that we cant trust ANYONE to give their endorsement to Bernie when they drop out.

So vote Bernie.

And if y'all don't, and we end of with Biden. I don't wanna hear any complaints.

If we get Biden then we gotta vote Biden. End of story.

Cause if Trumps re elected its game over.

He's already talking about extending his term limits or straight up erasing them. He wants to be a dictator and he's WELL on his way to achieving that.

He's proven above the law. And when the system fails the only hope left is the people.

Its 100% on us to make sure trump dosnt win. Its 100% on us to stay vigilant and not fall for the BS designed to turn things in his favor. It's 100% on us to show up, speak up, and carry a big ass stick of democracy.

Sorry for the long ass post. But I've been getting more and more suspicious/nervous by the day.

TL/DR: The primaries may or may not be rigged in Biden's favor. And that might be part of an even bigger plot to get Trump reelected. Don't waste your vote on 3rd party or underdogs. Please fucking don't inadvertently hand the election to trump.

And remember that I'm not a news source. Just a concerned citizen who worries too much and is hoping to inform/ warn people about a possible threat to our democracy.

I didn’t see that. Can’t say I’m surprised. I don’t know the content of whatever was published…but I am absolutely certain she’s using Emison fans for views (despite how much she loves the ship). And as much as I try to defend her as a person (and still do), I disagree with that tactic…so fucking much. She needs to nut up and just be honest about the fact that she has no plans for Emison and that she’s making it up as she goes along.

She’s never going to bring Emison back (despite promises of their journey). Shay is done. Emison is done. If you’re watching for their happy ending it’ll never happen (at least not on screen).

I’m not telling you to give up, but…I’m a realist. I’m also a writer who knows BS when I see it.

I saw this coming a mile away.

Edit 5/5: According to one of my followers, apparently this has caused some controversy with someone on Twitter (which I don’t tend to get on Twitter for that very reason).

The fact that I even have to address this is another reason I’m not giving my time to this show. People get too heated, too conflicted, and take things way too personally. This post was an ask that I gave my opinion on, backed by actual facts.

1) Shay has no interest in the show. And if you follow her at all you know that she’s been busy with several other projects and has not given any indication whatsoever she has plans to do a cameo to resolve anything on screen. It’s pretty clear to anyone who knows how to read people that she’s moved on from PLL. “Never say never” is Hollywood speak for “I don’t want to disappoint people and say no, but the truth is that I’ve moved on.” And if people want to believe that it’s all been top secret and that she’s secretly filmed something, more power to you, but given that she’s pretty much been out of the country AND the personal things she was dealing with last year…I just don’t see it.

2) Marlene said in an interview that she knew about “The Perfectionists” and who was on board when she was filming season 6 of PLL (Sasha said the exact same thing). That would mean that Marlene had plenty of time to figure out the creative aspects of the whole Emison thing without the added off-screen drama. Why bring off-screen drama when you know ½ of the party of the couple is not game for the show? For ratings. That’s Marketing 101. It unfortunately backfired, and I really honestly hate that, because a lot of people seem to be enjoying the show and now they’re caught up in this whirlwind when they’re just trying to chill and talk about the show. They’ve been screwed the most, because here is a show that has characters they really like getting low ratings because people are spreading negativity about it because of this.

3) Before the show even aired Marlene repeatedly assured fans that Emison was solid. She painted a picture of positivity. She used vague terms like “journey” and “growth” instead of admitting that they were having problems. She knew if she was honest her fanbase wouldn’t tune in, which I get. But if you go back and look at the interviews you can clearly tell that everything that was said in the press was a way to invite Emison shippers in. The truth is, she can’t possibly have any plans for Emison when she doesn’t even know how many seasons are in line. She has to change her ideas accordingly to adjust to that. That’s part of screenwriting. Storyboarding constantly changes depending upon who is available, where the plot is at, ect.

All of these things are facts. Those are all credible things that can be looked up. I literally said in this post that you don’t have to give up, but that I personally am realistic about the situation. If there are people out there who want to believe otherwise, that’s fine, but I prefer to read between the lines, so I know what to expect and I don’t create unrealistic scenarios in my head. That way I’m not disappointed.

By all means, be optimistic if you like. I very well could be wrong. And if I am, I’ll be fine with being wrong. But I’d rather be wrong and not disappointed than right and upset. All I’m saying is that you should go into it with realistic expectations, especially if you are only watching for a ship (this doesn’t apply to most people). And when/if this all comes to fruition with Emison not being a thing anymore, don’t be pissed or upset or angry. Because the writing is on the wall. In big fucking letters. And anyone who believed otherwise has no right to scream and yell at Marlene about it. (note: no one should scream and yell at her, period).

In terms of Emison being over, perhaps whoever is upset with me hasn’t seen my previous opinions on the show in which I explain that Emison is never going to get a concrete resolution with Shay not being interested. What that means is that there is a possibility that when the show ends there will be a line thrown in there where Alison says she’s going back to be with her family and to Emily (or there is a deleted scene from PLL that has whatever is needed to show them together again). But that’s not a “plan” or a “journey”. That’s fan-service. She’s never going to bring Emison back in a way that will make sense, and she’ll never get them back to the status they were once at without the resolution on screen, which is not happening, because this isn’t and never was an Emison spin-off. That’s the problem with this storyline (which should not have been a storyline in the first place). The drama that has been created that can’t possibly be written and fixed realistically.

She said in one interview that she hoped Alison would “earn the right to love again” (aka, love interest), and then said “I never said that”. And here we are with a divorced Alison and a completely open plot for her to receive a love interest. And when she gets a love interest, well, there’s your proof that it’s all a dog and pony show.

If you think all of this is not a way to try and keep the Emison fans watching then you need to take a Marketing class.

I have respect for people watching. I want to make that very clear. I’ve never said “don’t watch the show”. I’ve simply given opinions, oftentimes backed by facts. I’m a diplomatic person. I think everyone is entitled to their beliefs.

In the dramatic midterm elections of 2018, when the fate of the House and Senate hung in the balance and a new governor was about to be enthroned, two of every three votes tallied in California were cast via mail-in ballots rather than by in-person voting —even in the absence of a deadly pandemic.

By-mail voting has long played a dominant role in Golden State democracy, so the ballot-in-every-mailbox experiment currently underway is not so much revolution as evolution. But understanding the particulars of what happened to mail ballots in California’s 2018 election — how many were sent to voters, how many were never returned, how many were rejected and why? — can help prepare for an unprecedented Nov. 3, when counting commences on what may well be the weirdest Election Day in American history.

A Southern California News Group analysis of data collected by the U.S. Election Assistance Commission revealed some surprising things:

In 2018, 13.8 million mail ballots were sent to voters and 8.3 million were returned for counting. That means 39% — some 5.5 million ballots — failed to make their way back to elections offices to be tallied. In Southern California, Los Angeles had the most trouble getting ballots back, with 51% unreturned. In San Bernardino, it was 46%; in Riverside, 38%; and in Orange County, 37%.

Two percent of the mail ballots that did make it back were rejected by election officials, slightly higher than the national average of about 1.4% for the 2018 election. Locally, Riverside was the most prolific rejecter, with 2.3% of returned mail ballots uncounted, while San Bernardino rejected 1.5%, Los Angeles rejected 1.1% and Orange rejected just 0.7%.

Why were those ballots rejected, exactly? The most common reasons were arriving late and without proper signatures, but there were stranger reasons: 198 were rejected because the voters were dead, 222 were rejected because multiple ballots were received in the same envelope, 1,166 were tossed because the voters had already voted, and 153 were rejected because there was no ballot in the envelope.

Such oddities comprise a tiny sliver of the more than 8 million mail ballots cast, and should serve as reassuring proof that the system roots out irregularities, elections experts said. Several studies done over the years have failed to find fraud on any significant scale. Indeed, the conservative Heritage Foundation’s database of confirmed election fraud cases details 1,298 “proven instances of voter fraud” and 1,121 criminal convictions nationwide over a decade, as hundreds of millions of ballots were cast.

“One-hundred-ninety-eight people could have died after mailing their ballot, 222 people could have forgotten they had voted three weeks ago and sent in a second vote,” said Matt A. Barreto, political science professor at UCLA and co-founder of Latino Decisions, a research and polling firm. “The system catches all these things, as it is supposed to.”

Controversy over unofficial mail ballot drop boxes set up by the California Republican Party at churches, candidate headquarters and other unauthorized locations has sparked investigations into potential felonies, adding a new layer of complexity to an already-tense 2020 election.

Ballots MIA?

Mail balloting has been a big part of California’s voting picture long before COVID-19. Since 2010, roughly half or greater percentages of voters have chosen to cast mail ballots in general elections. Statewide, 66% of ballots in the 2018 midterm were cast by mail, according to the EAVS data.

Much of Southern California, though, lagged behind the rest of the state: In Los Angeles County, only 44% of votes were cast by mailin 2018, while in San Bernardino it was 59.6%; in OC, 61.5%; and in Riverside: 69.3%

That millions of mail ballots were never returned shouldn’t really come as a surprise.

“We don’t have 100 percent turnout in any election. Many of these people are registered for permanent by-mail ballots — ‘When I vote, I prefer to vote by mail, but I don’t always vote.’ They’re still going to get a ballot for every election,” said Thad Kousser, chair of the political science department at UC San Diego, whose recent research found that the overwhelming majority of California voters favored mail-in ballots for this election, as well as a widening partisan divide over mail balloting.

Fred Smoller, associate professor of political science at Chapman University, said American elections often fail to propel more than 60 percent of registered voters to do their civic duty. “As a nation, we have the lowest voter turnout of any industrialized nation in the world, so mail ballots that are never returned are consistent with how many people don’t actually go to the polls on Election Day,” he said. “Some see it as one more piece of junk mail.”

And while some states move swiftly to remove inactive voters from the rolls, California leans in the other direction so as not to disenfranchise people.

“One reason why so many ballots go out and may not be used is because we make it hard to remove voters from the voter rolls,” said Kim Alexander, president and founder of the nonpartisan California Voter Foundation. “Other states have much more aggressive purge laws; we have strict anti-purge laws.”

Today, more than half of California voters are registered as permanent, by-mail voters. As their ranks grow — something allowed by a 2001 law — the percentage of ballots that don’t come back has grown as well.

“This is a trend I’ve been watching, and it does concern me from a waste perspective that we’re sending ballots to people who aren’t using them,” Alexander said. “A lot of them probably get recycled. There is an optics concern, because voters don’t have a lot of understanding of what’s happening behind the scenes to process vote-by-mail ballots. But this is a very important point: Even though they’re not being used, they’re not being misused. There’s a lot of security built into the system.”

What happens?

Election workers examine the envelopes before they are opened. Each bears a bar code that’s unique to that voter, and workers confirm the voter’s registration and address.

They check the signature on the envelope against the signature on file. Sometimes people forget to sign. And if the John Hancock on that envelope doesn’t resemble the one from the voter registration or DMV form used to register to vote, the registrar must contact the voter and give him or her time to “cure” the problem, which is why it’s so important to get mail ballots in as early as possible.

If all matches up, workers record that the ballot has, indeed, been cast, which stops the voter from voting again. The envelope is opened, the ballot is removed and the two are separated to protect voter confidentiality. The ballots are flattened, stacked and fed through scanners for counting. Registrars can’t tabulate mail votes, though, until the polls close on Nov. 3.

As of Oct. 20, 4.9 million mail ballots had been returned by California voters, according to data from the Secretary of State. That includes more than 1 million in Los Angeles, 437,000 in Orange, 174,000 in Riverside and 173,000 in San Bernardino counties.

Dead folks and other oddities

In August, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office charged Caesar Peter Abutin, 55, with casting votes in three elections on behalf of his mother, who had died. He pleaded not guilty.

In July, four men admitted their role in a scheme to give money and cigarettes to homeless people on Skid Row in exchange for false and forged signatures on ballot petitions and voter registration forms.

Reform California, the political action committee of Republican Carl DeMaio, has gathered examples of what it calls “massive fraud” in Southern California counties, including 14 ballots sent to the wrong address; seven people who received multiple ballots with separate voter ID numbers, often with variations of their names (“Margaret” and “Peggy,” for example); and four ballots sent to dead people.

Over the past decade, the Heritage Foundation’s election fraud database for California includes 24 false registrations, five cases of duplicate voting, four cases of ineligible voting and one fraudulent use of an absentee ballot. It doesn’t reflect every instance of election fraud, but the low numbers — and many academic studies — suggest such fraud is rare.

That almost 200 ballots from dead voters were rejected in the 2018 election shouldn’t raise eyebrows. “You can go vote in the morning and die in the afternoon,” Alexander said.

“No voting system is perfect,” said Chapman’s Smoller. “There are always little instrumental or mechanical problems — like the 90-year-old with memory issues who mails in a ballot and then shows up at the polls to vote — but stories about thousands of mail ballots showing up in rivers is nonsense.

“That’s a very important point: Vote-by-mail does not have widespread, systemic fraud. It is not a hoax. You can trust it. But you’re always going to have things. It’s the nature of human beings.”

In Orange County, the Registrar’s Office takes multiple steps to ensure that voter rolls are up to date on deaths, a spokesperson said, getting notification from the Health Care Agency, the Secretary of State’s “VoteCal Deceased List” and a firm that produces national data on deceased voters. It cancels inactive voters who have not participated in two consecutive federal general elections and checks published obituaries daily. Sometimes, there’s direct notification from the family. Sometimes, ballots are returned and marked “deceased.”

“There is no evidence that there’s fraud or that mail ballots favor one party over another,” Smoller said. “There is evidence that it increases turnout — and if you believe in democracy, that’s a great thing.”

About this time four years ago, there was a smug confidence among the pundit class in Washington that Hillary Clinton was going to grind her way to a victory, Donald Trump was going to spend the rest of his life claiming he had been cheated of the White House and politics would find its equilibrium and forever swear off treating elections like a reality show.

Golly, were we wrong. Whatever the current polls say, we should consider this possible election outcome: Trump may well win a second term.

The President is back at the White House and reportedly on the mend after three nights in Walter Reed, recovering from COVID-19. He’s champing at the bit to get back out on the campaign trail himself. He says he wants to debate Joe Biden next week as planned, and he’s sending Vice President Mike Pence into tonight’s debate in Utah and tomorrow’s rally in Arizona ready to fight for votes.

Trump has been running for re-election since he won in 2016. Even in the window between his win and his Inauguration, he held “thank you” rallies. He started raising money and building a machine earlier than anyone in U.S. history. His takeover of the Republican Party started in the West Wing and the Republican National Committee, but he carefully installed loyalists in state parties and, in turn, shoveled GOP cash to them to build-out turnkey get-out-the-vote operations for him.

There is always a back-and-forth on which party has the upper hand when it comes to the use of tech, but no one can deny Trump has gone bigger on social-media spending. On Facebook and Google alone this year, Trump has spent $195 million to Biden’s $124 million, according to tracking done by Democratic firm Bully Pulpit Interactive.

Over the years, Trump has proven to be a Teflon contender, the ever-cascading series of scandals that have befallen his tenure never seeming to stick. Despite lagging Biden in national polls, he remains within striking distance in key states like North Carolina and Florida. Trump has had his hands on the wheel for the last four years. It’s been a bumpy ride, but for many voters, that’s been fine. The pre-coronavirus economy was humming along, Trump had alienated many global peers but hadn’t started any more wars, and the impeachment saga proved insufficient to remove Trump from office. His ability to shock and offend is now a rote part of American politics.

There are, of course, things Trump should be worried about. He’s been slipping with important blocs of voters since his first weeks in office. In the latest NBC News/ Wall Street Journal poll, there comes this warning sign: before the debate in Cleveland, Trump was ahead of Biden by 23 points among white voters who lack a college degree; after the debate, that advantage shrunk to 14 points. Trump faced his biggest declines among older voters and suburban women, two groups he is now on pace to lose by more than points.

Trump came to power in large part by being underestimated. There’s a lot of that happening again, with observers looking at data points like white voters’ slide away from Trump and his financial troubles. But Trump is also not wrong when he asserts that many of the people who will vote for him — not MAGA loyalists, but those who will ultimately cast their ballot for him anyway — aren’t showing up in polls and are still as aggrieved as they were four years ago when they helped vote him into power.

On Nov. 3, if Trump easily carries a vault of important states like Texas and Georgia, plus holding on in Ohio, Michigan and Arizona on top of the states that are already expected to be in the bag with him, we could see a Trump win declared that night. Biden has said he will concede if he loses. But whereas Biden has a half-dozen routes to the needed 270 electoral votes, Trump’s path is one that requires everything falling into place and little margin for error.

A lot of Americans just want this election to be over. We’re all tired. And given that collective lack of sleep, we could also be as wrong as we were four years ago.
