Today I wanted to share this CNN clip for Americans. You probably heard about the Democrat primaries in Michigan - 100k voters turned out and cast their ballots “Uncommitted” rather than choose the binary of Red v. Blue. If you’ve been paying attention, you know that Americans have been hounding all of the DNC powers ceaselessly. If you’ve been attention, you also know that Biden has had so many opportunities to end the Genocide in Palestine. You also know that Biden dangles the carrot (while eating ice cream) and then removes it (after that MI primary).
It’s important to reframe the binary vote; Biden isn’t going to “defeat” Trump, and Trump isn’t going to “win” - Biden is holding our hopes for a better future hostage. DNC should be courting our vote, not withholding peace for it.
Wisconsin voters are apparently turning out in similar numbers to utilize their voter power, “Uncommitted”. They need to see that we’re paying attention to the difference between their (empty) words and their (in)actions.
I hope this video and my words help give you the confidence to challenge people in your life who are bogged down in helplessness. I hope that you follow Mehdi on social media - if you aren’t already.
Don’t forget to click your Arab.org links, and talk to someone today about Palestine.
“Hope is not so much a comfort, as a necessary requirement.”

Why you NEED to vote!!
This is so serious. Do not withhold your vote. It's not going to send the message you think it is.
It never will. It will not be the 'devastating blow' or 'learning lesson' to the Democratic party as a whole- they won't learn a thing by you withholding your vote. It won't help Palestine- if anything it will make you complicit in whatever further harm comes to Palestinians when your "protest" results in Trump/the Republican Party winning the election, because they've already stated that they will back Israel no matter what.
Know what sends a better message than not voting? Voting for the other candidate, or voting "Uncommitted," in the primary.
So many of you are forgetting about the Primary!!
Currently there are two other notable* Democratic candidates (Dean Phillips & Marianne Williamson) and four notable* Third Party candidates (Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Chase Oliver, Jill Stein, & Cornel West). People have also been writing in Claudia De La Cruz. *In this context, notable means that a candidate appears on enough ballots to stand a chance to win a majority of the Electoral College, as according to Ballotpedia.
And let me tell you, even though only a few Democratic primaries have passed as of the writing of this post, their results already seem to be having the desired effect, because Biden started pushing harder for a ceasefire right after he lost 13% of the vote in the Michigan Primary to "Uncommitted."
Of course it's not perfect, but if 13% in one state could have even that much sway, imagine what could be accomplished on Super Tuesday* if everyone went out and did the same in their states? That's what could actually stand a chance at getting the Biden administration (and rest of the Democratic party) to scramble towards doing what we want. Withholding your vote won't do shit, I'm sorry. They only notice/care where the cast votes go- not votes that are absent. And unfun fact, Trump was elected by only about 25% of eligible voters. We got Trump because so many people (43%) DIDN'T vote in 2016. This is why turnout is such a big deal- your vote absolutely does matter. *Super Tuesday [March 5th] is the day where several [15] US states hold their primary election.
Need another reason? There are 468 seats up for election. All 435 seats in the House, and 33 seats in the Senate. That is huge.
Tumblr media
Currently Republicans hold majority in the House. This is a chance to change that- to flip seats! We have the chance to tip the scales further away from fascism instead of further toward it- But we can only do that if people get out and VOTE. Vote in the primary to choose your candidate, and then vote again in November to try and secure a blue majority and actually get shit done.
Do not withhold your vote!
Withholding your vote isn't a rebellion, it's silencing your own voice. It's complicity in whatever bad thing happens when the bad people win. It's an active sabotage of the things you supposedly want.
And to those who think "Oh who cares if things get worse for us! People in Palestine are already suffering in unimaginably worse ways!" I need you to reflect, and realize that trying to punish yourself because you feel guilty that you're not suffering with them will not help them. It's not "solidarity." It's not heroic. I'm having trouble finding the right words, but to think it comes anywhere close is a slap in the face to those actually suffering. If anything it will only make their situation even worse if Trump wins. Again, the Republican party has already stated it's intentions to back Israel no matter what.
You need to make sure that your actions aren't just you trying to assuage your own guilt because you feel bad that you can't help more. And you need to make sure that you aren't holding these guilty feelings over the actual needs of Palestinians and that you're not speaking over them in your "activism."
I'll say again, Do not withhold your vote. Do not silence your voice.
We have a chance to make this better, but we can only do it if we all do the work- and voting is the bare minimum of said work.
So make sure to get out and vote in your primary!

im voting in my state's primaries today even though i know it's gonna be trump vs biden.
america is such a joke.
i can't wait to see those old senile gasbags debate each other, it's gonna be like watching two dementia patients try to remember they're beating the shit out of each other.
get those two in a room together and just let them talk uninterrupted for an hour straight, and then it'll be quite blatantly obvious what a failed state the US of A is, because we have only two options, and neither of them can tie their own shoes anymore.

VIRGINIANS:
The primaries are tomorrow Tuesday March 5th.
We do not have a write-in option!
Blank ballots and ballots with anything written in will not being counted. This is why some folks are organizing for folks to protest vote for Marianne Williamson, a Jewish progressive who has been calling for ceasefire

Early voting has already started in some states. Primaries matter. If you live in an open primary state, like I do, remember you can vote strategically. Remember also to vote in all races. Primaries are how you get more progressive government on every level.

Today is Super Tuesday. It's more than just presidential primaries.
Last night Rachel Maddow spotlighted some of the wack Republican candidates and wove them together to describe how bizarrely extremist the GOP has become. This is NOT your grandmother's Republican Party which gave us sane people like Gerald Ford or George Pataki.
If you are not taking the threat seriously then you just haven't been paying attention.
Ms. Maddow goes on to say that it's up to us to stop a MAGA Republican takeover of the US. We cannot rely on some legal gimmick to stop Trump.
In the words of civil rights icon Rev. Jesse Jackson: "Nobody will save us from us but us."

VOTE IN THE PRIMARIES.
SERIOUSLY. I know a lot of people feel like it accomplishes nothing, but even if that were the case, it also costs nothing. If you give a shit at all about Palestine, the climate, social justice, etc., we NEED a better candidate than Biden.
I will not tell anyone who to vote for. that is a decision to be made autonomously. However, I would like to put out there that Marianne Williamson is back in the primaries after temporarily putting her campaign on hold. I find her stances on important issues (which you can read about here) to be pretty reasonable. she is pro-ceasefire, pro-climate, against the war on drugs, pro-lgbt...the list goes on. I know her odds against Biden are not great, but that doesn't make voting any less important. If we can even get her to 2nd place, it could be huge.
VOTE. VOTE. VOTE.

From the February 7, 2024 write-up:
The presidential field is basically set, but before the Trump vs. Biden rematch begins in earnest, there are still a bunch of highly contentious primaries for the House and Senate left to be decided. On the Democratic side, none will draw more attention and money than the campaign to knock the Squad—the famed young, progressive legislators of color—out of Congress. And now, thanks to the most recent round of fundraising reports filed to the Federal Election Commission, we know exactly who’s funding that campaign.
Surprise! It’s Republican billionaires and megadonors.
...
So you can see why Republicans would delight in this strategy. In a difficult fundraising environment, siphoning limited resources away from frontline races means Democrats will be less competitive in toss-up contests. Meanwhile, if UDP succeeds in knocking out, say, Jamaal Bowman in New York’s 16th District, they will make the Democratic caucus whiter and more conservative—more like the Republican Party—all while weakening the Dems elsewhere.
Even if those AIPAC-funded campaigns fail, it could still jeopardize the path to a House majority for Democrats. Millions of dollars of attack ads are certain to weaken the standing of any candidate, and if these progressives survive their primaries, they will be wounded in the general, where AIPAC then could (and will) help their Republican opponents.

Did you watch Shirley on Netflix and wonder how political parties select their nominee for President? 🤔
Voters participate in primaries or caucuses at state-level party conventions in order to select the delegates who represent their community at their party's presidential nominating convention. At the convention, delegates ultimately select a candidate to represent their party on the November ballot.
Swipe to learn more about delegates, national party conventions, and how YOUR vote in a primary election impacts who you’ll see on the ballot in November. Then, visit weall.vote/register to make sure you’re registered to vote! 🗳️

Refusing to vote for the lesser of two evils does not make the world less evil. Having the power to make things marginally (OK, infinitesimally) better and choosing instead to abstain makes you more culpable, not less.
