okay so! calamity thoughts!! (under a read more bc this post got pretty long)

first off all - god it was difficult to pick a favorite character. all of them were just amazing but if I had to go with just one I would say that my absolute favorite was patia. we love a queen who sacrificed her whole life for a city and her grandfather's legacy. also her telling loras to fuck off was glorious

two - WHY DID THEY HAVE TO HAVE CHARACTERS WITH CHILDREN IN THIS WHYYYY 😭😭😭😭😭 all of cerrit's interactions with his two children (talon to wingspan...........) and also zerxus' reunion with elias absolutely obliterated me. emotionally speaking

oh speaking of my emotions being destroyed - my tear ducts have been hurting since yesterday from all the crying I did while watching ep4. like that entire last hour? I was constantly crying. I haven't cried so much on a single piece of media in a long fucking time

what also really got me is zerxus' whole arc if you can call it that. like. he's a single father. he's a still grieving widower. he's the first knight of the city. he doesn't even like the city he's protecting. he tried to redeem asmodeus the lord of the nine hells. he gets tricked by the father of lies. he's just a guy. like damn bro holy shit

laerryn and quay's love story really was a masterpiece. faced with the apocalypse they went from bickering divorced couple to having an impromptu wedding in an underground chamber in the span of less than 24 hours. absolutely insane. also quay throwing away his chance to save himself just because he doesn't want to leave laerryn????? I'm gonna be thinking about that scene for a long time

the difference between the fourth wall breaks of something like the Deadpool movies compared to something like Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn and She-Hulk: Attorney At Law is that every joke in Deadpool feels masturbatory like the writers think they're so hilarious for doing a fourth wall break like that's never been done before whereas both of the other two not only feel right at home with the characters' personalities but are much more natural and much more well done compared to the jokes in Deadpool or its sequel. (do not get me started on Deadpool 2, the movie sucks ass in basically every way except for the characters of Domino and Yukio. every single joke in it was outdated before it was even written. they were making fucking dubstep jokes in 2018. it was a 2012-ass script made way too late and riding on the coattails of the first with even less effort into being actually good.)

but the difference between those properties is that Deadpool wants to be congratulated for being some insanely crazy shocking movie that's pissing off the studio system or whatever but every single joke in it was approved by those people because it makes them money like it's so antithetical to the entire point they're trying to make and it makes for a very infuriating watching experience sometimes. the cognitive dissonance is hard to swallow with that one. but the way BOPATFEOOHQ and She-Hulk do their bits feels so much more authentic and less self-congratulatory and also just like they're clearly done with so much more passion and effort and care? when I watch either of the Deadpool movies, I feel like I'm watching a bunch of executives jerking themselves off. when I watch the other two, I feel like I'm watching a passion project that the executives clearly didn't give a shit about and thus the creative team were actually allowed genuine creative freedom with not a lot of oversight. that's a little less true with She-Hulk (especially in terms of that glorious finale although even that feels more authentic and artist-driven than most things in either Deadpool movie. Kevin Feige's boring, sanitized ass does not have the range to do that finale) being a MCU property although Phase 4 was so fucking experimental and it was a joy to behold even if not everything hit but it's still true and more authentic for the most part. with Deadpool it feels like the only person who really really cared about it was Ryan and like maybe a few of the other actors who actually did do commendable work with what they were given but with the other two projects, it feels way more collaborative because every single person showed up and cared deeply about what they were making.

(this is an addition to the tags bc I ran out [apparently i forgot there was a 30 tag limit] but. anyway the point is. Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn is a phenomenal movie in basically every single way and you should watch it.)

Sandberg movie.#like BOPATFEOOHQ feels artist driven the same way The Batman does and the TASM movies do.#not to derail this tag rant but the TASM movies are Marc Webb movies through and through.#yes they have Sony's grubby hands on them with the product placement and shit but they are inseparable from Marc's vision #they are what Marc cares about more than what the studio cares about. the thematic interests are all Marc Webb.#anyway point is: more art like BOPATFEOOHQ bc it actually cares and less shit like Deadpool that is just pointing and laughing.#Deadpool feels like it's laughing at the concept of superhero media and it's a horrible boring deconstruction of it bc it doesn't get it.#it feels bad to the psyche the same way those meme disney show record scratches do—#like 'my life is kinda crazy' but it's 'ironic' now so it's 'funny'.#'see it's funny bc they're self-aware!' okay but what are they doing by being self aware???#I'm not saying every piece of art has to be some profound exploration of whatever but Deadpool feels bad to watch in a way the others don't #BOPATFEOOHQ is actually fucking commenting on something using its gags!#the fucking 'they call her... the crossbow killer gag' is actually thematically relevant!! women telling their own stories!!#a subversive joke actually playing into the themes of the project!! imagine that! care ajf effort put into saying something!!#anyway Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn is phenomenal.#genuinely one of the greatest CBMs out there. also just a phenomenal time. even tho Parasite is a better movie overall #— BOPATFEOOHQ was my favorite movie of 2020.#some of the best action around with a great script with amazing pacing and phenomenal acting and a great score and soundtrack!!#literally nothing more to ask for.#one of my usual criteria for evaluating how good a piece of art is how much I'd add to it to help it do what it was trying to do.#like not cutting anything from it unless absolutely absolutely necessary. just adding like maybe 10-15 minutes to the runtime and—#helping maybe a few weaker elements shine more. with BOPATFEOOHQ the only change I'd make is to have more of the characters.#let us see more of Cassandra and Black Canary. more of their inner lives and backstories.#Christina Hodson tells us their stories with great efficiency and it's done really well but visually I'd just like to do more with them.#give them each maybe a 2-3 minute scene with what their daily routine is like.#maybe explore Canary's history with her mother more. see how it ties into the GCPD more effectively.#maybe actually see Cassandra's parents and how she deals with them daily instead of hearing about it from her hiding outside

Was a lovely day/night ☀️✨❤️‍🔥 which is rare but it’s been great weather last week and this for here lol didn’t have money today or a chance to go hiking buttt I did sit in the back garden of my flat at a table and drew/painted, listened to music & watched stuff on my laptop, played with my dog (I made him a spot with a few couch pillows wrapped in a quilt cover next to me by the table and brought him water and snacks out lol) so I done that for hours and smoked weed and drew finished my Grace and Frankie drawing:)) 🎨 with watercolour pencils and pens (I need to buy new paint soon lol). I got high:)) 💨 it was nice ❤️‍🔥 wearing that big spaceship hat coz I couldn’t find my cap and my scalp burns easily so I took my mums huge hat, ironic I call her mothership and it looks like a bloody spaceship 🛸😂 lol anyway had a nice night, would rather go hiking again, but seeing this guy I’m seeing this week again,. Can’t stop thinking about our hike and picnic it was lovely :)) we keep texting he’s great

its kind of absurd how far ive made it without becoming a touhou fan

ive always been super inspired by japanese folklore, ive always been super inspired by colorful ornate multilayered costume design with frills to the max, ive always been super inspired by danmaku (the patterns and animations not the gameplay lol), touhou soundtracks have been my goto for inspiration music my entire art life, like 90% of the stories ive written are surreal whimsical mishmashes of wide ranges of paradoxical concepts with heavier undertones, i cut my worldbuilding teeth on reinterpreting scattered shinto mythos as structured spiritual heirarchy the same way tolkien did with european paganism in his early days

but out of everything thats failed to catch me for years, the thing thats finally gonna get me is the game about running an izakaya

i literally cannot resist izakaya and yatai their spirit has occupied a spot in my soul since who knows when i was first exposed to then

#mystias izakaya is also the first touhou game ive encountered that writes the characters as yokai that are just depicted as anime girls #instead of just anime girls with a few yokai traits #its like Ohhhhh i get it now. touhou is supposed to be Spirited Away but with the Moemon sprite mod #in a well written one the moe part is just on the surface and theyre actually just straight up yokai. Bad Ass #but now ive got the conundrum of do i get into touhou or keep distance cause i wanna still write yokai stuff without being influenced by it #then again i think touhou is more wide than it is deep so maybe itd be fine #i already love okami and oreshika #though i resonate far more with Totoro and Spirited Away. shinto lens and dynamics but original mythos with a unique dynamic of its own #rather than literally adapting existing legends #man watching totoro when older and realizing its hidden layer about building an original mythos for a region's forest and wind was amazing #it was like YES i loved totoro when younger and now i find all along it was about the same kinda stuff i write this is where im meant to be

I’ve always kind of wanted to write my own twst event, like ghost bride or beansfest, so this little valentines bit is a lot of fun trying to format around since I’m trying out new styles and such! ((: it might have to be a little late bc there’s like a L OT of writing, each chapter ive tried to have at least 3-4 esque paragraphs minimum, which is already one chapter = 1/3 to 1/2 the length of a normal fic -> and these take a few hours to days. i really tried my best to release it all at once in a single post instead of being a tease like the game having to wait for part two. [writing progress]

however it is gonna be really long at this point. im no joke twenty paragraphs into the fic and ive only begun writing about two characters parts finished✌️if it gets TOO long then i’m probably gonna have to split it into multiple parts to make it easier, but likely release them a few hours apart (might be longer i hate being the man who spam clogs tags) so i don’t spam the twst x reader tags. i’m not going to force my viewers to have an eye bleed because i don’t know what formatting is.

gonna try my best to get it out on time though! 💞 right now i’ve made it to about chapter 3 in the word count screenshot,, and yeah i’m probably gonna have to be released with chapter 1-6 first, depending on how much longer the word count gets to be. i normally h a t e the :read more: line because it ruins my writing by repeating or deleting paragraphs but i just hope it doesn’t mess up this time;;
