Released within months of the 1992 Los Angeles riots, on November 17, 1992, many songs comment on the racial tensions. The title is in part reference to the movie Predator 2, and the album itself includes samples from the film. Though not Ice Cube's most critically successful album, The Predator is his most commercially successful, reaching 2x platinum status in the United States, also containing his most successful single, "It Was a Good Day." The Predator is his only number one album on the Billboard 200 to date, selling 193,000 copies in its first week. August 6, 1983 - "She Works Hard for the Money" by Donna Summer peaked at No.3 on the Hot 100. It is from her 1983 eleventh studio album of the same name. The song was released as the lead single from the She Works Hard for the Money album on May 1983, by Mercury Records. It became a hit for Summer and is one of her signature songs, reaching number one for a three-week stay atop the Billboard R&B singles chart (her first since 1979), and number three on the Dance Club Play chart. The single ended up as Billboard's fifteenth-best performing song of 1983. Summer performed the song live as the opening of the 1984 Grammy Awards. Summer's Grammy performance was released on the 1994 video cassette Grammy's Greatest Moments Volume I. Summer wrote this with Michael Omartian, who also produced the album and played many of the instruments. Omartian also co-wrote "Sailing" with Christopher Cross and produced "We Are The World" with Quincy Jones. This song was based on a true-to-life experience. Donna Summer was in Chasens restaurant in Los Angeles. She went to the bathroom and saw the attendant taking a nap with a small TV on. Donna startled the woman from her nap, and the woman told Donna she worked two jobs and was really tired. Donna thought to herself: Wow, she really works hard for her money. The music video was directed by Brian Grant, who was one of the first directors in the medium, having done clips for Queen and The Human League. The video was very popular on MTV, airing a few months after Michael Jackson broke the MTV color barrier with "Billie Jean." Summer became the first black female singer to land a video in heavy rotation on the network. In a parody of the image created by this song, and its cover art picture, Summer herself appears in the Frank Sinatra video for "L.A. Is My Lady", released in 1984, as a waitress who serves a patron and then wipes her brow. There are two versions of the music video.
