Ch. 17 - That All Our Cares Must Be Placed in God: The Imitation of Christ
Book 3:  On Interior Conversation Chapter 17:  That All Our Cares Must Be Placed in God CHRIST:  My child, permit Me to do with you what I will, for I know what is best for you.  You think as a human being and judge things according to human reason; but you are often swayed by your feelings and worldly attitudes, so that you can easily be deceived and make mistakes. Spotlight Ninian Nijhuis (University of Amsterdam) - Carl G. Jung: Fantasy, Madness, and the Exploration of Consciousness Interview Highlights: Ninian begins by talking about the recently published Black Books and Red Book by Jung, and how the Black Books acted as journals to explore Jung's own consciousness. She then discusses the fantasy Jung had about a 'madhouse', who Jung 'met' in the fantasy, and what Jung was trying to 'sort out' in all of this. This leads to a discussion about pathological madness and divine madness, what distinguishes the two, and how Jung perceived religious experience. Ninian also touches on Jung's struggle to balance his professional life and his spiritual/religious life, his emphasis on an "attitude of openness" and his ideas of how a person can have a "self-regulating consciousness."

Quote
Grieve that you are still so carnal and worldly; so undisciplined in your passions, and so full of bodily cravings ; so unguarded in your outward sense ; so often engrossed in vain fancies; so absorbed in worldly affairs and so indifferent to spiritual; so easily moved to laughter and levity, so disinclined to sorrow and penitence ; so eager for ease and self indulgence, so averse to zeal and self-discipline; so anxious to hear news and see fine sights, so reluctant to accept humble and simple things ; so greedy for great possessions, so miserly in giving, so tenacious in keeping ; so intemperate in speech, so unwilling to keep silence ; so disorderly in manners, so impetuous in action ; so greedy for food, so deaf to the Word of God ; so quick to rest, so slow to work ; so wide-awake to listen to idle tales, so sleepy at holy vigils ; so hurried in your devotions, so wandering in attention; so careless in reciting the Hours, so lukewarm at the Eucharist, so lacking in devotion at Communion; so easily distracted; so suddenly roused to anger, so quick to take offence; so ready to judge, so severe in reproof; so cheerful in prosperity, so weak in adversity; so frequently proposing many good deeds, and so seldom doing them.

"Learn to break your own will. Be zealous against yourself." - Thomas à Kempis Matthew 11:28‭-‬30 KJV Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. From Thomas à Kempis, “The Imitation of Christ”. This is specially useful for teachers, since “peace” is something that either we lack, or some of our pupils in their lifes or the classroom because of our individual lack of peace. Learnig to bear those who are not in peace may cause suffering, but according to Kempis that is precisely what we need to keep on top of things.” #teachingideas #imagodei #thomasakempis #dailyquotes #christianclassics #immitationofchrist #lent #lent2019 https://www.instagram.com/p/BvTNkEBJpcL/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1booupao9g8ch
