40% of people disbelieving in evolution is maybe the most embarrassing failure of the American education system. In a general sense, science education as a whole in the United States is atrocious. But the stunning failure to effectively communicate the process of evolution and why we know it to be reliably true is maybe the most atrocious disaster in the education system here. I grew up being raised on media — national media, not Christian media — that communicated to me that “evolution versus creationism” was a huge, maybe the hugest ongoing debate in science and the world as a whole. It’s not. there’s absolutely no meaningful debate in the communities of people who actually study this as to whether or not humans and other life forms underwent macro evolution. I believe the number is 97% of scientists accept the theory of evolution, and good luck finding that much consensus on practically anything. There is endless evidence time and time again verifying the theory, my favorite being the discovery of Tiktalik. And yet the denial is about as strong in the United States as it is in Africa. sometimes I look at the sky and feel a bit overwhelmed by how precarious life is. like. I am a monkey with anxiety. what is society. but still... my ancestors struggled and fought for me to be here today. 1. honestly despite heralding myself as a history person i do not know much if at all about prehistoric stuff, much less about prehistoric biology, but i looked up ‘prehistoric fish’ on google images and what im seeing so far is pretty good....i like all the sharks. thats cool. tiktalik is funny. well uh, yeah, so. yeah. i think theyre cool.

2. hoooh boy plants. i honestly really love plants, but theres a difference between loving them for how they look and aesthetically and all that, and actually being able to take care of plants, because every single plant ive ever owned aside from a rose when  i was 8 has tragically passed away because im a dipshit who cant remember to take care of them. but even without that i think my favorite types are probably, like, iunno the scientific terms like, idk, cactuses? cacti? i think theyre cool, succulents too. i really like golden barrel cactuses

3. i was going to post gif of uncle fester being blasted by lighting here but tumblr would again not let me upload it so im sorry to disappoint you. try to imagine it in your head i guess
