Started this while I was animating and needed a little break, did the inking and colours now that it's over. This time he gets woodpigeons

Since we've decided Tim Sale's Riddler is pigeon-coded, here's him sitting on a roof like a pigeon. Background is based on the orphanage in Arkham Knight because I haven't really drawn Gotham architecture before and want it to look like the city instead of just some random suburban area

Drew some birdies dressed as Riddlers. Might do some more later, I have a few more ideas

Explanations:

Tim Sale's Riddler is a feral pigeon and a moorhen. I keep drawing him with pigeons, and during drawing the seagull I had the epiphany that his skrunkly vibes are like a moorhen

Frank Gorshin's Riddler is a seagull (herring gull). I guess he just gives the vibes of most likely to steal your chips. And also seagulls make noises I guess. And they're the kings of the seaside like he's the king of the Riddlers

Arkham City Riddler is a mute swan. They're stereotyped as beautiful, elegant creatures. They will also bite you and hiss at you

Arkham Asylum Riddler is a woodpigeon. They're the first birds whose calls I really notice, and before I loved birds I found them kind of annoying but in an affectionate way. This is perfect for this Riddler, as his talking probably annoyed everyone who isn't a big fan of him, but for me it's my favourite part of the Arkham games

Arkham Knight Riddler is an oilbird. Because oil and robots. Also, I found out about them from the Most Fucked Up Bird Election (officialweezerelections) and he's a bit fucked up isn't he? This is my first time ever drawing an oilbird so it isn't the best

BtAS Riddler is a European robin. He's canonically adorable, and I've been seeing a lot of these cute little guys about

Zero Year Riddler is a Canada goose. I was struggling to think of fitting birds, but. HONK.

We also have an emerald starling in spandex, because it's the classic Riddler look with a bird who I think is a classic Riddler bird

Read The Long Halloween, Riddler looks so terrified he needs a hug and to be taken out of these situations

I added the pigeons because at one point there was a couple of pigeons in the garden while I drew this. This then has the implication that he's been standing there for a good while and the pigeons have just landed on him :) hopefully they'll cheer him up. Really happy with how this turned out!

I'm going feral over Batman/Superman: World's Finest #18. Decided to redraw this page with Tim Sale's Riddler, since he is the most Little Man. It's not the best but I've spent basically all day doing this and it's a good way to practice comic pages (without falling into the trap of trying to copy the lines exactly)

Done a design sheet/outfit sheet for Riddler in my little AU!

Rambling about design and inspirations:

General appearance (face and body): Hair is based on the classic comics. Also, there's fanart somewhere on Tumblr that called it blue hair Riddler and that was what got me really into the blue and black hair. The face is a bit of an amalgamation between Arkham and some of the classic comics (and mayhaps Tim Sale's Riddler?), but with BtAS's question mark nose and eyebrows. He's muscular, based on classic comics spandex (and the Lego games were very formative for me). I like drawing muscles (and JJBA was my special interest when I started getting serious about art which probably explains it). He's got body hair like in Arkham Knight (he may end up with more body hair than shown here, it depends when I get to drawing him). He's also got that question mark scar because it's silly and makes it a bit more interesting (and story potential?)

Spandex outfit: Based on the classic comics (especially Batman #705-707 (I hope they're the right issue numbers. They're the ones with Query and Echo)) and Lego Batman 2. His eyes are probably hidden with the mask, which would move for some of that adorable BtAS expressiveness.

Suit: It's a bit like a camper version of Arkham City. Also inspired by Frank Gorshin and Arkham Asylum.

Cane: Based on Lego DC Super-Villains, but also a little bit inspired by Arkham City? The topper is flexible so he can wrangle people

Casual outfit: Inspired by Arkham Origins, but more Riddlery. This Edward definitely has a collection of dorky jumpers which only his most trusted friends get to see him in. He's got the unbuttoned shirt heavily inspired by Lego DC Super-Villains. His glasses are inspired by Arkham City. He's a bit short-sighted; he could function without glasses, but for too long it would hurt. He uses contact lenses when he's out riddling.

Waistcoat: Heavily inspired by Frank Gorshin in the film when he takes off his blazer and looks incredibly dapper and ruined my fashion sense. His outfit here is like a more cohesive version of what I would wear. The tie is based on the one I embroidered. His gloves and trousers (and aforementioned glasses) are based on Arkham City. He has green nail polish (he would also put purple question marks on them)

Not appearance related, but I'm spelling it Nigma, because in my mind Nigma is for darker-haired Riddler looks, and Nygma is for ginger/red hair (may be based on the fact that classic Riddler usually has darker hair, but modern Riddlers use Nygma and are often redheads?)

Also! I've been working on writing a comic for the AU! It probably won't be coming soon, but... it's in the works...
