Hey, if you're interested in another idea, would you like to write the reactions of the various characters to the dyslexic MC? (and therefore low self-esteem) ❣️❣️❣️

HLC REACT TO DYSLEXIC MC

It's not that MC couldn't read, they just had to do it slowly. Sometimes they'd have to stare at a sentence for several minutes before it made sense. Some days were better than others. While sometimes it would just be a letter or two out of place, sometimes it would be entire paragraphs looking like someone spilled alphabet soup on the page. They prayed to any higher power that would listen that they would never have to read in front of the class. It was bad enough to struggle doing homework reading assignments.

SEBASTIAN SALLOW: He reads like a Timelord, so he'll struggle with the idea that someone just can't read words sometimes. He'll be interested to learn about their condition, but MC will still have to remind him to be patient. If MC really struggles with learning something new, he'll gladly help them, for a price. He likes having friends in his dept.

OMINIS GAUNT: He learned how to read relatively late in life because of his blindness, so he still has to take his time. Don't even get him started on writing. Even with his wand, writing in a straight line with a quill is challenging. And POTIONS, UGH! Needless to say, he relates. Misery loves company.

ANNE SALLOW: She's not as voracious with reading like her brother, so she's far more compassionate in encouraging MC to take their time. The professors give lots of time when they're reading assignments usually and they shouldn't fret about it. If they have real concerns in the class, just talk to the professors. She is sure they'll understand.

IMELDA REYES: She genuinely believes MC can't read for the first couple months of the year. Did MC expect to just learn through osmosis by staring down their textbooks? Even after an explanation, it just sounds like excuses to her.

NATSAI ONAI: She's more of a doer than a reader herself, so she relates a little bit. She offers to help MC through their assignments by doing the reading for them and then explaining it verbally or through demonstration. She's not going to let her bestie fail just because their brain sees books as word jumbles.

GARRETH WEASLEY: He understands, but more under the pretense that he just has a hard time focusing because his brain is constantly elsewhere. Trial and error is the best way to learn anyway. If you don't understand it, wing it. It's worked for him so far.

LEANDER PREWETT: He can't help but poke a little bit of fun at the fact that MC actually does have an Achilles heel and is not perfect at everything. If this genuinely bothers them, he'll apologize. Reading's not all it's cracked up to be anyway, just about everything at Hogwarts can be learned verbally. They shouldn't stress about it too much.

AMIT THAKKAR: He's quite the avid reader, so while he's sharing his favorite books and lessons, he may accidentally come across as condescending. MC Just has to tell him once what they're dealing with and he'll offer to help. He can easily break down many of the professors reading lessons down into more simplified paragraphs to make them easier to read.

EVERETT CLOPTON: He doesn't have perfect vision, so while he's not dyslexic, he can relate to MC's esteem. Kids can be cruel to those they think show weakness. He has a sack full of dung bombs for anyone who bothers MC about their dyslexia.

POPPY SWEETING: She believes MC just needs a nice calm environment for their reading. No distractions or loud noises to bother them while they're focusing. The vivariums are perfect! The beasts never judge how quickly someone reads if MC would like to practice reading out loud.

ELEAZAR FIG: He knows early on they have trouble reading. Not to worry, he's dealt with this sort of thing before, comes with the territory of being a professor. He's very patient with them and lets them read at their own pace. When he can manage it, he'll try to keep lessons verbal and with illustrations instead of written words.

actually i'm not done being wrecked by the most recent dnd session. like i have to decide where to go with vanora from here but my brain is just the banshee like screeching of an ancient dial up modem. no thoughts but also too many thoughts in my head. and too many thoughts of what i am assuming/ know versus what vanora knows/ might assume and it's still only been like 48 hours in game

Since Quill answered for Vanora, I’ll go ahead and answer them all for Raven, my sweet bby mapmaker in the same campaign! (If anyone wants to ask about other characters just lmk of course!)

SEASONING: Smoky/umami! Not necessarily a flavor Raven herself gravitates towards, but she’s always been associated with fire and that feels appropriate for her. (She does, however, enjoy a spicy hot chocolate).

WEATHER: Sunny, light breeze! Raven naturally has a very low body heat and gets cold pretty easily, so being out in the sun is always preferred.

COLOR: Blues, especially a very clear sapphire-blue. In recent incarnations, she’s also added gold to her palette — but blue has been her color since version 1.

SKY: A clear night sky, the kind where you can see a million stars.

MAGICAL POWER: Putting aside her sorcerer powers, I’d (jokingly) say her forgetfulness? Her memory is a swiss cheese to an impressive degree. But also yeah she’s got spooky shadow magic and sometimes sets things on fire.

HOUSE PLANT: Having never lived in a set place before, Raven knows nothing about house plants and gardening. While I’d love to say jasmine for the vibes, she should probably start off with something like a snake plant that’s hard to kill.

WEAPON: Daggers. There are Things happening with them, thanks @timelord-in-hogwarts !

SUBJECT: History/anthropology! Raven loves learning about old civilizations. Comes from having a mentor in his fourth century who knows a lot of stories.

SOCIAL MEDIA: Oh jeez, we discussed this as a party once. I think she’d have a travel blog as her main thing, with maybe youtube and/or instagram attached?

MAKEUP PRODUCT: Fun fact, several past iterations of Raven had very distinctive black eyeliner and eyeshadow! Now, though, I’d say maybe a subtle gold shimmer dust.

CANDY: Hm… something really sour, perhaps?

FEAR: Being trapped. Doors and windows must be left open just a crack, no matter where she is.

ICE CUBE SHAPE: Why would Raven ever want to use ice cubes? (Probably the standard very small square ones, simple and no fuss).

METHOD OF LONG-DISTANCE TRAVEL: Walking :) (Maybe hitchhiking in a modern AU)

ART STYLE: John Tenniel, Kamome Shirahama, etc… she’s a mapmaker, so her style would be very centered on the use of black ink and lines. Not much by way of color. (Should note that she’s not great at drawing outside of her maps, at least not yet anyways)

MYTHOLOGICAL CREATURE: Hmm… it’s not mythological, but perhaps the Hell Butterflies from Bleach?

PIECE OF STATIONARY: A wax seal-stamp or artist signature stamp. Something that sees repeated professional use. (I wonder if the guild badge serves as this…)

9) Ah yes, Forte’s mother. I actually have a headcanoned design that I can’t draw up right now but yea...

Her real name was Joanne - a strapping young lass and pirate prodigy who was secretly the mushiest pile of romantic goo ever. Of course, her entire crew knew this, and since their captain was too proud to admit that she wanted to settle down and have a family, they teamed up and kidnapped a Wellish lord for her (yeah, wasn’t really the most thought out plan). They couldn’t really just take him back (Jail? No thank you), and said lord didn’t have anyone who’d ransom him back (dude kinda lived a sad life) Lucky for Blackthorn’s crew, the two actually kinda hit if off so things kinda worked out??? They were married in a year and expecting a child after a few months. 

After the pregnancy announcement dropped, Joanne took a break from pirating, bought a nice house, and settled down with her husband to raise their daughter. Her crew still went on pirating excursions, but often stopped by with new toys and dresses for her daughter who they’d decided to appoint their princess and spoil absolutely rotten. Joanne tried to stop them, but none of them were particularly good listeners.

She’s an independent lady who many would say was good at everything. Sailing, sword fighting, cooking, singing, even haggling at the market, you name it, the lady could get it done. In general, she was always cheerful, a bit of a prankster, and secret romantic. Because of her exploits, most people assumed she was this cold, ruthless bandit , but she loved her daughter and dopey husband as much as she loved the sea. 

13) Count Arthur of Holt was an intellectual to the core. However, because of this rather “nontraditional” views on things such as gender roles, most people dismissed him as another eccentric. 

Before his wife’s death/Fate’s birth he spent a lot of his time travelling for the crown as a diplomat. Between trips he worked tirelessly to better the lives of his people. Ask anyone in Holt and they would tell you that the late Count was a great man of magnanimous character. 

After the death of his wife, he retired from diplomacy to focus on Holt and raising his daughter. He made a promise to his dying wife that he’d let their child grow up up into whatever she wanted. Because of that and his general policy that more knowledge is better, he let Fate study whatever she wanted, even if he had to search all of Wellin and bribe tutors to do something as “uncouth” as teach a lady how to defend herself. 

(Fate still had to take basic “how to be a lady” lessons though, even if she hated them. Whether he liked it or not, these were necessary skills to surviving in society.)

He was a stern man and many people would initially think of him as aloof before getting to know him. Outside of his duties though, he would relax a lot more, even crack a couple of dry jokes. Very strict with his daughter, especially in regards to her studies, but would secretly dote on her every now and then. Fate was his pride and joy after all. 

He died about in the winter, about a year before the Summit from illness. On his deathbed, he had his daughter promise him she’d stay true to herself no matter what. His last words: ”Thank you. It’s what your mother would have wanted too.”

19) Gonna talk about Elise and Clarmont since that’s the only one I’ve played extensively besides ElisexLisle and that is just going to be a pile of bittersweet angst that I’m not gonna deal with today… (tho tbh EliseClarmont isn’t much better “>u>)

So, in another world where Elise somehow decides to not listen to her head and just follow her heart (I actually had a fic about this planned for 7kpp week orz) she decides to not pursue Lisle and spend her week 3 date with Clarmont le gasp.

(MC backstory for those who don’t know… Elise’s only goal is to marry out of Corval into a position of power in a stable country. She’s doing this so she can use her newfound influence to move her mother and aunt out of Corval’s inner court into a comfortable, peaceful life. Obviously, Revaire is anything but stable and Queen of Wellin is pretty much the perfect scenario. She liked to both Lisle and Clarmont enough and was probably falling a little for both of them, but if it came down to pure attraction, Clarmont won out.)

Quite frankly, he makes her feel like she’s living in a fairy tale. The stolen glances, quiet flirtations, it’s enough make her forget everything else in the world, even all of the Summit’s stresses, existed.

Of course, she can’t spend every second of her time with him, and unfortunately, when they are apart she’s tearing herself up inside out of guilt. What’s going to happen to her mother and aunt now? She passed up on her best chance to save them so she could have this happiness for herself but… she didn’t deserve this… she shouldn’t be…

22) You could say Dulche and her first husband were barely married. For starters, their marriage was always meant to be purely political. After their wedding, Dulche did almost anything she could to stay away from their estate, or at least make it so their schedules never matched up. Not to say that her husband was terrible, at least to her, but he was frankly, quite oblivious to the suffering of the common folk. (A supporter of the Gisette/Jarrod’s parents, well known at court, and in good graces with the royal family.) 

Dulche’s husband treated her fairly well and gave free access to his large fortune, though from the way he bragged to his acquaintances, he really only saw her as another pretty prize he’d won. Actually, spoiling her by sending her on frequent vacations and showering her with expensive gifts was probably just another way for him to show off his wealth and status. Dulche didn’t really care though. If anything, it made her job a lot easier. All she had to do was smile and coo over how wonderful her husband to please him. 

She didn’t really feel anything when he died. It may as well have been the passing of a total stranger. Obviously, she grieved (or at least, pretended to) as much as was deemed acceptable before moving on with her schemes.

Amount I sleep: avg about 7! I sometimes find sleeping annoying lol. Like I’m too tightly wound and would rather be doing something else. I curiously wake up at like 6:20-6:25 every morning without an alarm clock and i love it.

Dream job: ahem....well, I’d be glad to own my own business or do anything with my creative abilities. Started college for sonography & graphic design and abandoned both because lack of motivation, fear, and also got a good normie FT job. I need a self-revolution, my life needs to change!

Favorite song: I can’t say this with 100% certainty, but I often time regards One of These Nights by Eagles as one of my very favorite songs, it like... fills my soul in a way I can’t explain.

Favorite instrument: I don’t have much musical experience, zero talent, but I’d say bass. I’ve come to realize how beautiful and important it is. I would love to learn drums though, it seems like it would satisfying to be able to play.

Stuff about Eirwyn because he’s my kiddo

Notable stats: Charisma and Intelligence (maxed out in both), 

Class: Bard (Lore)

He’s charming, eloquent, poised but also very much a diva who does as he pleases. Very much enjoys messing with people just to amuse himself.

Curious in general, but fascinated by magic in particular. Pretty much devoted his life to studying it.

His common sense goes flying out the window if shiny, rare magic items are involved. (His poor impulse control doesn’t help much either) Has set off traps on multiple occasions in the name of investigating that curious magical thing over there. 

He’d probably get along very well with N because of all their shared interests and tastes - books, learning, and all the fancy luxury things.

Eirwyn and Evie are self-declared matchmaker extraordinaires. They’re already meddling in Rua and Gabe’s love lives. 10/10 would add the Detective and their RO to that list.
