hello!! what are some general colouring tips that you'd like to share :3
Hii!!
Ahh gosh, let me think:
Something that I recommend doing is picking one main color to be the focus of the picture, and then working around it with picking other colors that compliment it, but don't compete with it. It simplifies the image and puts focus on what you want to show. For example, in all of those drawings I put red as the main point of the image to serve as the center of attention, while all the other colors are much darker and simpler
Tumblr media
Use contrast between your objects vs your backgrounds with colors and with shading. If the objects are dark, the background should be bright and vice versa. It helps to show the silhouette better:

Color your lineart - it makes such a difference in making the drawing look finished:

For shading faces, it makes a big difference to use references to help yourself! I recommend this head lighting model!
If you need ideas to come up with color palettes, there are a lot of fun resources you can use for inspiration, such as cinema palettes or filmgrab!!
And yeah, that would be it hah
If you are more interested in specific color stuff, I would honestly recommend just going on youtube and watching some videos about color theory in art, since they are much better at explaining it than me 😅 For example this one or this one!

i've been making custom content for almost a year now, so i thought it might be helpful to start sharing little things i've learned to do in blender! i created this step-by-step guide on how to remove seams from a maxis mesh and how to edge split parts of meshes which should appear "crisp." i think they really help to make custom content look neater in-game.
you don't need to do this if you're making recolors, but if you export the mesh from sims 4 studio (i.e. to make something from a pack base game compatible), these seams will appear.
i hope this is helpful for others who are starting off editing maxis meshes themselves! 💪💪

Tutorial for drawing characters with Down syndrome!
DISCLAIMER... Please keep in mind that this is an introductory drawing tutorial and has some generalizations in it, so not every “X is Z” statement will be true for Actual People. It's more of an overview of features that are common in people with Down syndrome, not meaning to imply that every person with DS has all of them 👍 thanks.

Throwing back to when I Built Floating Bookshelves
How I built floating bookshelves. Of the six shelves I built nearly ten years ago two still remain in our guest bedroom that we’re currently redesigning into a den for Lodi. I had asked him if he wanted to take the remaining shelves out and he said he liked them so much he was wondering if we could add more. They are pretty cool looking! The oak I used was straight out of the barn and Lodi is a…

Hello, friends!
I reworked the ol' "Schweizer Guide to Spotting Tangents" lecture from my comics-teaching days, figured I'd share it here. If you want a free, printable PDF for yourself or to share (especially if you're an educator), you can find it at the bottom of this same lesson on my website.

ive been wanting to make smth like this for a little while now and i finally finished it up ^_^ hopefully my tricks are helpful
EDITS: since this post is gaining a lot of traction, i want to highlight some of the suggestions and addendums that other people have made. i'm imperfect, which is why i recommend that you use references of real people along with my simple tips!
as many have pointed out, the yellow in the last diagram should cover the entire body, especially around the stomach area. the only parts of the body that are consistently bare are the palms of the hands and the bottoms of the feet
check out this reblog from @proxykiwi for a diagram of the distribution of hair on the back of the body
the texture of the hair can differ between the head and the body-- much of the time body and beard hair is curlier than the hair on the head
like when drawing head hair, its helpful to break up facial hair into descriptive shapes, and add lines for texture as needed. i tried to communicate that in the images, but i think its also useful to write it out
check out this reblog from @jodjuya for a detailed explanation of how beards tend to grow throughout teen-adult years
thank you to everyone who's suggested and added things! i encourage people to look through the replies and reblogs of this post for more information

Hi! Since you mentioned making a cloud override is easy, would you share on how to do it? C:
hi hi yes of course! i replied to cowplant-snacks' message a while ago but i realize responding in the comments to a post is not the best way to maintain a conversation :P
first, it looks like miiko's ghibli clouds were updated for the newest world(s) on curseforge so you could grab it from there. but thankfully it's very easy to do a default replacement! i'll put it under the cut so i'm not clogging up peoples' dashes.
oh, i do all of this in sims 4 studio! so i uh recommend downloading that if you don't have it yet!
first, open up one of miiko's studio ghibli clouds files. you may need to unmerge it in s4s. hit export on the DST image and save it as something you can remember. miiko has them saved as things like cumulus, cirrus, etc. so you can match the cc cloud to the maxis cloud, if that makes sense.
Tumblr media
now that you have the image, it's time to create the override! create an override object.
Tumblr media
type "cloud" into the search and make sure to check "show debug items." you'll typically get results for things that don't actually show a thumbnail; that's ok! you can hover over the object to check what it's supposed to be. some worlds share clouds so you probably will not see clouds for every world.
Tumblr media
hit next and save the override as something you can remember. now you can import the cc cloud image!
Tumblr media
don't forget to drop the override in the mods folder when you're done.
if there's clouds you know are in game but don't show up, you can try searching "matte" instead. you can also use the Browse Game Content feature under Tools in the toolbar so you can preview the background files.
i hope that helps!! if there's anything confusing just let me know--i don't think i'm very good at explaining things haha.

Tutorial for drawing characters with cleft lip! Sorry that it's mostly unilateral-centric but it makes up the vast majority of resources and photos. Still tried to get tips for drawing bilateral clefts in though.
Keep in mind that this is an introductory drawing tutorial and has some generalizations in it, so not every “X is Z” statement will be true for Actual People 👍
