Harvestman (Graecophalangium sp.), juvenile, family Phalangiidae, order Opiliones, Peloponnese, Greece
Harvestmen, also known as Daddy Long Legs, are not spiders, but are in a separate group of arachnids.
They are not venomous, but instead seize and tear apart prey with their chelicerae. (They can eat solid food, unlike spiders, which must liquify their prey).
They only have one body segment, unlike spiders (which have 2), and most have only a single pair of eyes.
There is also a group of spiders, less commonly, called Daddy Long Legs, the Cellar Spiders, family  Pholcidae. Craneflies (Tipuloidea) are also sometimes called Daddy Long Legs.

omg... bug blog... /pos.. i remember i used to have daddy long legs living in the corners of my room and we would just chill :D i was like 7 at the time
i love when people say daddy long legs with no other indication because that can be one of three bugs depending on where you live. it can either be
A: Cellar spiders (Pholcidae)
Tumblr media
B: Harvestmen (Opiliones) [which are NOT spiders, btw! and cant bite!]
Tumblr media
or C: Crane Flies (Tipuloidea) [Not a mosquito, btw!]

Either way, what cool friends to have hanging out on your wall!!

my best guesses:
1. male spring fishfly (Chauliodes pectinicornis)
2. female fishfly (Chauliodes pectinicornis)
3. crane fly (Tipula furca)
4. southern emerald (Synchlora frondaria)
5. moth (genus Athetis?)
the fishflies are a great find!

From @asmolvaporeon:
#I thought it was Opiliones that were called daddy long legs?
The phrase "daddy long legs" is generally used to refer to any of three things, depending on region and dialect:
Harvestmen or Opiliones, an order of arachnids that are not closely related to spiders
Cellar spiders or Pholcidae, a family within the true spider infraorder, Araneomorphae
Crane flies or Tipuloidea, a superfamily within the fly order, Diptera
So yes, opiliones are absolutely called daddy long legs, but so are a couple other things.

I felt like I needed to clarify some things before we could continue any more conversations on this godforsaken website.
I’m very proud of the European Robin, I think I really captured it.

I love ur insect gifs.. I have recently taken on entomology as sort of a hobby/personal study after taking entomology courses at university. I love seeing their movements and behavior so close up!
aww, thank you! i encourage using any new entomological skills to correct my taxonomy or add interesting information!
