Well, the mermaid can talk to you, can't she? You are more closely related to a goldfish than you are to a shark. (And aw goldfish is more closely related to you than it is to a shark)

Met a mermaid wizard that claimed she could talk to ocean mammals but not fishes. Usually mermaids I meet can talk to fishes but not ocean mammals. I thought maybe I made contact with a previously undiscovered kingdom of merpeople, but then I saw what she meant by that.

She doesn’t actually “talk to” dolphins. She just likes to swim alongside dolphins and speak plain English with them and the dolphins do not understand her. She even did an offensive accent to a porpoise at one point. Not a new kingdom, just a particularly crazy mermaid.

But should I still smash?

"New Yorkers bite more people than sharks annually" is an excellent example of how statistics can be misleading. Like yeah no shit, do you have any idea how rare it is to even encounter a shark in the wild? They're not exactly urban animals. I'm pretty damn sure that if sharks were living in big cities like pigeons, just strolling down the streets looking for food scraps, you'd see a lot more news stories about New Yorkers biting them.
