Mini rant here. Very mini, I have to sleep.

Buck only became a favorite character of mine in season 4. I liked him before, but I never got the hype of why everyone was all over him.

I hated how the Bddie fandom treated Buck. I started not being able to read a lot of fanfics because it was just too much to slog through the infantilization, the feminization, the worship that came at a detriment to the other characters and the rest of the fandom. The racism and villainizing towards Eddie was at a high in some fics because of the uwufication of Buck.

All I wanted was to read about Buck and Eddie (back then). All I wanted was to read about a 33 year old man, not a 33 year old man portrayed as no more than a 12-15 year old in emotional or mental maturity.

I thought that the BuckTommy side would be better. We’re older here (I say as one of the younger ones) and with a more general understanding of how adults behave. I thought it would be better. And it is. I know that I can freely read fanfics without as many filters as before.

But I’ve seen a fair amount of the same here. A lot of people just aren’t…normal about Buck.

I guess every fandom has their source of projection. Buck has a tractor beam on him for that, I guess.

He’s still infantilized so much in this corner of the fandom. And I’ve seen a lot of it hidden behind the term “brat”, a term that is used quite frequently concerning Buck. Now I personally hate it, but that’s just me. I don’t like the term because of what I found it represents.

Now this is not universal, of course. I still love the BuckTommy community and the creative works that come out of it are some of the best I’ve ever had the pleasure of enjoying. A fair amount of the creators that use the term “brat” still manage to make a well rounded adult in their works.

But I’ve also seen way too many people use it to mask the fandom-typical infantilization.

Typing this, I’m thinking of all the fandoms I’ve seen similar cases in.

Idk what the point of this even is. I’m not really trying to gatekeep what is and isn’t created or discussed in the fandom.

I’m just begging people to start treating Evan Buckley like the damn adult he is. It’s nauseating to read a fic where I’m ten years younger than Buck yet his emotional and mental maturity is on the level of that of my brother in his early teens.

Maybe I’ve been on threads too long. They don’t play over there. Maybe it’s the sheer exhaustion of being an American and dealing with fucking fascism. I’m not vague posting. FAFO.

Do not harass them. Do block them. I don’t believe they’re actually getting d*ath threats, but don’t do that either.

They’re fucking around. roxydachiq is desperate for attention. They would not be infiltrating our tag begging for clicks and discourse if they weren’t. We don’t need to harass them. They’re clearly miserable as it is. But block them to protect your peace and keep the tag clean and happy.

Ao3 is an archive!

It is an archive of fanworks. Some of them are crack, sure, some of them have little to no purpose and may be a bit stupid, but usually it’s for fanworks.

And the fact that this website is being desecrated by pedophilic anonymous works simply for the sole purpose of trapping and traumatizing enjoyers of a ship? I’m going to whip off my librarian glasses and pull out the hefty encyclopedia. No one touches ao3.

Also, I’m convinced these people need to be on a list.

I got the same anon in my inbox. Did you know you can report an anon ask? I did, for harassment. You can also block the anon who’s sending the ask. I also did. I’m not answering it, as tempting as it was.

We need to stop giving a voice to the trolls.

Starve the trolls. They’re only looking for attention. Starve them.

Quick question:

I do post discourse on my blog sometimes but I don’t want to drive off others who might not like discourse but don’t have it filtered for whatever reason. I might be being too much of a people pleaser? I generally try to tag 911 discourse under said tag but I feel like making a #tk6 talks discourse tag might help?

Anon, I assume you’re doing a general “you”, seeing as you don’t know me. You sound pretty butthurt about something.

Whilst the fandom could certainly have used more understanding towards female love interests in the past, I’ve never heard a thing that came from the issue of actual “dating”.

Oh, but what I have heard from is privacy infringement and player vibes (Abby), the unethical use of another for career as well as an established lack of moral fiber (Taylor), someone more interested in her date’s death than life (Natalia), and I won’t say a thing about Ali because I liked her but we never got the chance to know much about her.

Then we have a strained marriage and abandonment (Shannon) and two bland characters, one of whom played by a transphobic and homophobic actress.

Wow. What a selection.
