Theories:

Ok, so first off, Heidi's statement basically confirmed that this is TMA!verse. Georgie is running some sort of military/police force type thing to keep the remnants of the Fears contained in what used to be London, which would make sense as the Institute and Jonah were stationed there, so it got the most Fear activity. This leads to more questions: Where are Basira and Melonie? What happened to Martin? What about avatars like the Fairchilds or the Lukases?

This is just an offhanded remark but: Is Fr3D1 the one preventing them from quitting, if they are indeed going to be prevented from doing so? Basically, could it hold them hostage?

On the transcripts, Fr3D1 has become Freddie, so maybe it's Becoming more human. Perhaps the tear won't require more sacrifices, but Freddie will. We don't know what happened to the 'elements' of Colin. If we follow the laws of physics, then mass cannot be created nor destroyed, so did Freddie absorb it? It would be amazingly scary if it slowly built a body from the flesh of others and wires made out of bones, Becoming an Avatar.

Also, .JMJ Error was not resolved, so maybe Jon, Jonah, and Martin aren't supposed to be there, and Freddie is trying to get them out. Maybe it is building a body (or bodies) for them. I would also like to note that Chester (Jon) read out everything for the system, which does back up the theory that Chester is Jon because he was the closest connected to the Eye when the Fears left, therefore, he would be most intertwined with the knowledge of the computer system.

I'm also going to wait to see if Colin is actually IN the computer, as I was thinking we would hear his voice. The photocopying thing could count, but I'm going to hold off until we get more information on him.

so sam is still doing the paperwork. lena doesn’t seem to think that they’re anything supernatural. or she’s just not letting sam know that. but she’s not warning him against doing them either. she just doesn’t want it to interfere with his work.

THE SOCIAL MEDIA/OPEN FORUM CASES ARE BACK BABYYYYY!! THOSE ARE MY FAVORITE. this statement was like a cross between the redcanary statement and putting down roots. i loved it. as i thought, the statements seem to be more and more sci-fi horror, and i’m living for it.

so i’m guessing the jonathan sims and martin blackwood that sam found out about are the tmagp versions. and they were not together in this universe. damn.

and finallyyyyy alice and gwen ACTUALLY talk to each other! although, this was pretty quick by magpod standards. i’m glad that alice was more sensitive and actually sympathized with gwen. not that i blame sam for reacting the way he did. but yeah, we’re finally getting some progress and i’m so excited to see what comes next!!

TMAGP 15 Thoughts: Seasoned Hunters

What a fucking episode. No complaints at all. It's just solid gold all the way through and just like gold it's a dense so there is lots to dig in to, and not much point in a preamble.

Spoilers for episode 15, and all of TMA, below the cut.

I really like the introductory office drama portion of today's episode. It's not particularly enlightening, and there isn't anything new in it, but it sets the stage well. Yes, that was a pun. Alice reacted to the news as I knew she would, because she can't help herself. But other than that I really like the mention of Luke playing at The Glad. Magnus stuff always does a really good job of peppering in real places.

This incident was also incredibly short. However unlike last week's episode I think it utilised that time so much better. All of it was a slow build up to one event and was really just three scenes. Set up, hunt, conclusion. Simple and to the point but incredibly effective. Last week's episode felt like too big of an idea bent to fit too short of a time, while this weeks felt like a good story that was given the time it needed and no more or less. Really big fan of the whole thing.

The incident didn't have too much to really get into here. If I were live blogging you would've seen me say "Lady Mowbray?!?!" when the Caterer said "the really high-end stuff". I have been waiting for something aristocratic. The set up is a little cliché but I really like the subversion of Battle Royale instead of The Most Dangerous Game. It's not only an effective twist when the story is from the Caterer's PoV it's a much better insight into the characters were being introduced to. It also highlights something fairly interesting about TMP vs TMA. This incident is one of the most singular in terms of its representation of a TMA Entity but that expectation is somewhat subverted by having these characters hunt each other for another rather than all be hunted down. It wouldn't be out of place in TMA but it is taking a bit of a different approach.

Speaking of the characters though. Fuck Yeah. Lady Mowbray. Finally. I, and probably all of Statement Remains, have been waiting for her appearance since last October when some lucky folks got to meet her bodyguards as part of the ARG. I didn't have her pegged for a badass cannibal but here we are. She really surpassed my expectations. I love aristocratic monster people so I had high hopes and I am still pleasantly surprised.

Celia and Lady M's interaction is really great. I love that we're getting more and more evidence that Celia is clearly more than she's letting everyone else in on. I, obviously at this point, think she's from TMA's universe for a lot of reasons. Lady M not being able to place why she smells so wrong but picking up on her being out of place is just more evidence of that. Celia holding her ground and not taking any shit from Lady M is also incredible. She just listened to how she eats people, gets jumped scared by her, and then instantly tells her to fuck off by way of not giving her a name. She's really living up to the Ripley namesake and I love every second of it.

I will not soon forget that tiny little tease about Bouchard lore either. Actually cruel.

Luke and Alice at the bar wasn't a big moment but it's nice to see her interact with more than just her co-workers. Meeting Luke and he being seemingly normal was also nice, be a shame when he dies.

The final section was phenomenal. I really love it when these shows break format and what a format break it was. So first things first this was recorded on a tape recorder. Significant for likely obvious reasons but unlike the last time these showed up this one isn't an incidental placement like the Institute's one. It was being carried by the woman. We know Alice feels like she's been followed since that incident and this is likely related to it but I don't think it's related in the most obvious sense. There is a very obvious conclusion to draw from TMA knowledge but I feel like that might be folly here. It seems a little too obvious and a little too strained at the same time. The Institute and [Error] being so related to that and in this fashion I think would feel a bit forced, and so this feels more like a red herring to me. Something is going on with them but I don't think it's going to be that.

So Drowning Victim, as she is credited, is super intriguing for a million reasons. Continuing on from that prior thought it's quite possible that the tape recorder and Alice being in the same place is entirely coincidental. It's one of those things that feels like a scheme from TMA context but everything being linked feels too TMA to me for right now. But what she's saying is really interesting. Because with those tape recorders it sounds like a statement. It's not just random mumbling but a fairly coherent narrative. Or a recalling of prior events. Whether the Drowning Victim is the original PoV for that potential statement is hard to say. I doubt it but it would be possible. Another strong idea here is that it is linked to [Error] and her deal might be another archive. Instead of just collection and storage she could be able to force others to relive them through the statements. That's a TMA parallel I think would be a much stronger use of TMA's theme.

Outside of that Alice's interaction with her is so so well done. I think it's really important to show that Alice both has a heart and is able to stop with her attitude when it's really important. Getting to see that when push comes to shove she can step up is going to be something that'll come back around. We all know that everyone at the OIAR is in for a world of hurt and I think Alice is the person the fanbase has the biggest issue with in that sort of context so far. And her singing Nellie the Elephant for compression rate is sort of heart breaking to listen to. Just a really fantastic performance from Billie and people better be nicer to Alice after this. I better not hear her getting any shit for running away either. She gave CPR to a woman who basically attacked her, drowned in the middle of London, died, and then kept talking.

Also, quite note, this episode had five new voice actors in it.

Incident/CAT#R#DPHW Master Sheet

Klaus Watch: Wasn't expecting this to return so soon but here we are. This incident doesn't appear on Klaus but what does is this, CAT1RB2373-10072023-########. This has the accompanying note "Dame M" and a location "London, England".

DPHW Theory: 6451 is a pretty reasonable rating for this. Hunting mostly focused on the killing part of it. Some mental compulsion, seclusion, and obviously the predator/prey dynamic. The 1 in Weird is more evidence that 1 is the lowest rating with 0 being the highest. Nothing Weird in this one really.

CAT# Theory: CAT1 has a person in it.

I'm still debating whether to do a post on that theory because part of me does feel like it'd ruin other people's fun. Another part of me thinks that theories as prolific as that deserve to be scrutinised as intently as possible. Although there is a problem with that idea because my DPHW theory that has become the default does seem to be mine and I've not seen any cases of parallel thought on that one. The CAT theory has 10+ individuals all coming to roughly the same conclusion though and I'm not sure if that makes it more fair game or not. I, personally, welcome any challenges to my theories and I know some people who have posted the CAT theory do but that's not the same as them all holding that stance. It's not really possible to single anyone out either as it's not about any single person but the idea itself. IDK, give your thoughts on it.

This one does solidly fit into that theory though.

R# Theory: B sounds good to me. Although it's worth mentioning that there is a hyphen in this header between the rank and the DPHW.

Header talk: Hunt (Aristocratic) -/- Compulsion is interesting for two reasons. First off it being Hunt sort of precludes, secondly Compulsion is a strange filing for this IMO. There was an element of it but it was fairly minor and didn't seem like the thrust of the episode. The Caterer was compelled to be quiet but wasn't forced to hunt the rest of the brigade. He chose that when he realised what Lady M. was getting at.

Okay that was insane.

First off, Lady Mowbray sniffing Celia and calling her an odd one strong and different!!?? Oh this HAS to mean something

Also mentions of the hunt?? Possibly?? This expression feels more like how we're used to seeing the Hunt (or any of the fears) portrayed in TMA. Unless I'm mistaken? But it does give me those vibes.

Love how Celia is immediately on the defense, like she can immediately sense the danger Lady Mowbray can be.

Secondly (very quickly) I bet if she does tell Sam or Celia about what happened, she's going to blame them for not coming with her to her brother's band performance.

What I REALLY wanna dive into is how the Victim has a TAPE RECORDER.

To me, it almost seemed like they were giving their statement into the tape recorder but as it was happening live, despite the pain and terror, they were still spewing their fear in original statement form.

What furthers my idea of this is when Alice grabs the tape recorder after the Victim died, like tapering with the tape spurred the Victim back into action.

Before that though, the way the Victim's mind and body acts is peculiar, like they are compelled to spew everything that is happening, but their body is reacting as it should to the painful stimuli and reaching out for help, but their mind doesn't seem to process the presence of another human, nor can they respond to Alice in any way.

Final Comments :

Man. What an episode.

I'm very interested in Trevor's backstory in this universe. He definitely feels like someone who's been in politics for a while, so I wonder how he got here.

The fact that the night shifts were pointed out and that Lena immediately had a response to it feels somewhat suspicious. I doubt that's why they work at night.

About the email, it's definitely very concerning. It's also possible that it was sent by "John", the person who told Sam to meet Gerry and Gertrude. It's most certainly the same that sent the first mail in episode 4.

I sense that Celia will finally stop being cagey about her past in the final episode or something. Maybe she'll be compelled like Sam was. Wouldn't that be horrifying ? Sam seeing Celia being compelled, unable to stop talking as she reveals a horrible truth about herself.

Sam's story was. Wow. Delectable honestly. I kind of wonder if there are things related to that specific phenomenon in alchemy, but it's possible that it's more related to occult science as a whole. Ah. What I would give to have access to a specialised library.

Dr Welling has been mentioned in episodes 17 and 21 at this point, so he's important.

Liveblogging TMAGP 7: Give and Take

It's Monday! You know what that means! What do you mean I don't have a schedule for these? Shut up.

Merriam Webster - Agglomeration: the action or process of collecting in a mass Wasn't "collection" a category? Why is this agglomeration (miscellany) and not collection (miscellany)? Is there a difference? I know the OIAR documentation system is... complex and obtuse, but are these not literally just synonyms? Geez A religious gathering of people involving a collection of miscellaneous items. And "Fire" is one of the incident elements. I'm getting Desolation vibes. Perhaps a bunch of people tossing their belongings into a bonfire to discard their previous lives and show loyalty to a cult. Reminds me of SCP-8091 from the 2024 Phobia Anthology, which is also a big Desolation reference. I don't expect this to fully map to Desolation though. One of the other incident elements is "Gun violence", which is especially interesting. This is an email, not a police report, so how is a gun even involved? And then claustrophobia and suffocation are also listed. Is someone going to be burned in a pile of junk right before it gets set ablaze? Or with the mention of human remains, is a room just going to get packed so tight of people there simply isn't space to even breathe? If it's that last one, this incident might really get to me, because I do not being surrounded by people in tight spaces.

Having started actually listening to TMAGP, I gave myself permission to start looking at a fanfic I hadn't looked at in a while. Another Story (Not Our Own), a fic where after Jon and Martin end up Somewhere Else, they start receiving floppy disks that contain TMAGP episodes and they react to them. I swore to only look at the chapters for episodes I watched, and I did! But, um, the one for Episode 6 revealed something I very much did not notice. Probably would have never noticed. Celia is in TMA. In episode 190. She's one of the survivors of the Fearpocalypse that Georgie and Melanie saved. Her fear scenario apparently stole her name, so she decided to go with Celia because "she liked it". Celia is in TMAGP. Here. Right now. With the exact same voice actor. That can't be a coincidence, right? I wonder if TMA Celia's name truly was Celia, but wherever she was (maybe the Carousel from Revolutions?) screwed with her mind so much she couldn't even recognize she liked the name Celia because it was hers. Is this just a display of the fact this is an alternate dimension? Did Celia somehow cross over? I don't know. What I do know is I should really stop poking my head around in TMAGP content until I finish season 1.

1:45 - "And we’re not bothered by the whole “my skin turned into butterflies” case?" I am. I very much am. 2:19 - "Have you ever checked to see if the spoken cases have anything in common?" Celia is already starting to theorize. She wants to make connections. And I think she's going to manage. She'll uncover something about the OIAR. Whether or not Lena manages to silence Celia before she gets the word out, I don't know. 2:43 - "Is there any way to look up specific files?" "Every case about being buried alive or meat or… whatever." Gosh, I never even thought of that! See, Celia is already on it. I like her. I wonder if those examples are just examples or if Celia is trying to stealthily ask about something that happened to her? It's hinted that something happened to her, but what? 3:29 - "From DMargolis@oxfordpeoplestrust.org to HR@oxfordpeoplestrust.org RE: Tendering resignation. 3rd February 2016" God, this happened involving a charity? That's not good. And whatever it was, it was so bad DMargolis felt they had to resign. Do they feel guilty? Okay, never mind, I'm sus of this guy now. This feels like the start of more "volunteers" coming in, being good at first, but eventually corrupting this charity branch into some sort of fear battery. The Hilltop Centre seems to involve retail. I'm guessing this branch is a store and profits go towards charity causes of the other branches. What I wonder is when does the agglomeration come into play? Does each new volunteer bring in a new item?

7:01 - "The young woman (whose name also escapes me at this time)" I thought about how weird it was Dianne couldn't remember any of the names, and I just remembered something. A reddit post on r/TheMagnusArchives. It was just a photo of a weird item in a store with the post title being "What fear would fit this" or something like that. I remember thinking Stranger because I just could not recognize what the item even was supposed to be. And I remember one of the comments saying this reminded them of Give and Take. Maybe these nameless volunteers really will just keep bringing in more and more weird items. I focused on fire in the incident elements and ruled this desolation, but the actual incident report categorization doesn't even include fire. It just focuses on the fact there was an abundance of miscellaneous things and that there was a seemingly-religious gathering. Is this going to be more Stranger-aligned than I was expecting? 7:18 - "they insisted “it’s all for a good cause”" Yeah, okay, they're even repeating themselves. It's stock phrases, and these are stock people. 7:25 - "The second volunteer also made a donation in the form of a large Bearskin rug" The skin of something that once was alive. Close to taxidermy. And the first item was a pot that looked like a human face. Something non-living that took on the appearance of something living. Stranger. 8:00 - "but with the Christmas period approaching" Oh, actually, these are just elves. Dianne needs to chill out, this is just normal elf behavior. It's all good.

8:48 - "but Mr. C Clayton had not yet returned from his sabbatical which I had by then learned was with full pay in the Seychelles. I'm sure he had a lovely time." You can FEEL the bitterness. And its deserved, Clayton is not doing any managing at all, he's just leaving Dianne to flounder. 9:50 - "It was at this point I began to sense that I was starting to lose control of the situation." It's just like Breekon and Hope overtaking... well, Breekon and Hope, the delivery company. 10:25 - "None of the items were fit for sale. I specifically recall two large, soiled Crinoline dresses, a Chaise Longue with cushions filled with some sort of coarse sand, a taxidermied vulture, a rusty antique printing press and a collection of old medical equipment that had seemingly been recently used." I'm getting Corruption from this also. This is trash. Gross, icky stuff. Stuff that you could get an illness from just by touching. Maybe a bit of Extinction in here too? I'm not sure if the focus has moved towards the idea of humanity's wastefulness yet.

11:23 - "and they were all laughing and calling out to one another “it’s all for a good cause!”" Actually, the more I think about it... This is just like people donating garbage to Goodwill. Not unwanted belongings, literal actual unsalvageable garbage. And there's a fossil. A relic of something probably extinct. I think this is Extinction. This place is basically being turned into a landfill and dozens of people are gleefully participating in it, patting themselves on the back because they did their part, even though they really didn't. It's a mockery of charity, a mockery of attempting to make the world better, and I think that fits perfectly for Extinction.

12:03 Things got from bad to worse very fast. My stomach is dropping. This is the claustrophobia I was worried about. Honestly, the fact it's being crushed in between garbage and not other human bodies does make it a little better for me? I don't know. Rationally being pressed up against rotting food and broken china that could cut you is the worse option, but being cramped in between other squirming bodies as you all thrash? Ugh...

The fact they can just show up with literal machine guns and burn down a building, all while basically out in the public, is horrifying. 14:32 - "No, yeah I’m fine just... the voice threw me." Is Colin worried something in the system might... leap out into a new electronic to escape? I thought for a moment his worry was that Sam's phone would start recording, but I think the devices are ALWAYS recording. So I'm sticking with my "something is trying to escape to new technology" theory. 17:20 Gwen why are you meeting Lena in private. This is a good way to get disappeared. Do you think you can blackmail Lena somehow? She works for the government, they probably told her to do whatever she did to Klaus!

17:50 - There is a struggle. YOUGER LENA is thrown to the floor and Klaus flees. There is a Gunshot. Klaus cries out but keeps stumbling away. And there goes Klaus. Seems like he actually got away though... 18:26 - "Because not only do I have a video of you trying to murder someone, even better, I have multiple copies of you failing to do so." Because that's the only reason you should have to be confident about confronting her about this.
