but I am in the middle of my yearly re-read and going through the tmtts tag sporadically when i think abt possible loose ends. did you ever address mikael? i think you mentioned he would play a role later on down the line, and I know one of the docs in your thread had a part where even mentioned him. "there's a guy." or something. or was it just suppose to be brief thing pause and then even realizing it just wasn't working bc mikael is not isak?

(did someone ask if you ever shared your outline? or is it the one that is on your other computer? I'd be super intrigued)

hi babe!! i believe i do mention it in the recording (that is lost to the ether big rip) but he was going to come into play later, after isak ended things with even. even was gonna try and give it a shot with mik, who felt like they had a sort of Connection they let fall by the wayside after mik moved. there's a small snippet i shared of even's pov, which shows him leaving mik at the movies when isak calls him in a crisis. it never comes up in isak's pov, but i shared it as part of the closing twitter thread that accompanied the Lost Recording fadsjkf.

also, i did not! the story outline is actually a mess and not even i can figure it out anymore. i did mention maybe posting the notes i wrote about the questions i was asked, which i might still do if i don't find the recording hiding away somewhere.

since I am on a tmtts bender after several years of not thinking of the fic (partly out of hope) but cut to the feeling came on via one of my playlists and I've been itching to analyze it and match it up with tmtts.

Lyric -> How It Maps to Isak

“I had a dream, or was it real? / We crossed the line and it was on”

literally Chapter 1 onward. They crossed the line — enemies turned into something else. what they’re doing means something, it feels like a dream he won’t admit he’s in. he's doing everything he can to prove it doesn’t mean anything

“I've been denying how I feel / You've been denying what you want”

This is the emotional thesis of Isak’s character in tmtts. He uses logic, science, sarcasm to cover the truth: He’s in love, he’s terrified, and he’s pretending it’s “just sex.”

This also maps to Even, who knows what he wants, but holds back to protect Isak. Two people mirroring repression — for different reasons.

I’ve been in hiding, backsliding, keep rewinding”

Isak’s entire emotional M.O. He pulls back the second he gets too close.

Isak’s constant pattern: move close → pull back → pretend nothing happened. It’s a loop. A trap. He’s stuck in emotional reruns.

“I want to cut through the clouds, break the ceiling”

Isak trying to push past his emotional shutdown, but terrified of what’s on the other side. The longing underneath Isak’s denial.

“I want to play where you play, with the angels”

His subconscious awe of Even — the way Even feels transcendent, bright, unreachable.

Could mirror how Isak views Even — light-filled, unreachable, fearless. Isak wants to “play” in that world — to feel free and seen. But he’s still scared of what that would mean.

"I want to wake up with you all in tangles”

The sleepover rule, the longing for emotional intimacy masked as sexual connection. Physical intimacy is fine — but sleeping beside someone? That’s love territory. That’s emotional tangling. That’s the line.

“I want to cut to the feeling”

He wants to be held, be seen, say it out loud — but he keeps stopping himself. The truth behind all of it. They both want to stop pretending. But they’re trapped in cycles of almost.

"No more dreaming of the dead...”

Wanting to move beyond numbness and loss (father, self). Isak’s trauma. His father. His mother. His own depression. He’s trying to move past the numbness — but doesn’t know how.

“I want to cut to the feeling / Oh yeah / I want to cut to the feeling”

The whole fic builds around this desire. They won’t say it — but they want to. Each chapter circles the edge of honesty, but the tension always resets. This line is like an emotional pressure cooker.

"I want to dance on the roof, you and me alone”

Literal rooftop scene. Stargazing. The near-confession. Even says Isak is made of stars. Isak almost lets himself believe it

i was going thru some of your old twitter threads regarding tmtts bc it is almost time for the yearly reread and some of the asks are making me nostalgic. and I finally came across the one thread that explained why you stopped and looking back at some of those chapters, THEY WERE LONG. and you had 10ish chapters planned if i remember correctly? One of them had almost 80k words for a single chapter? that’s insane output. No wonder. Sidenote: I hope for the day that the google drive file is restored or found, was everything you mentioned in that file a doc at some point? if you happen to remember ofc, it's been over 5 years since that file.

GOD, yeah. yeah, babe. idk. i've always been a wordy bitch! (even though nowadays i've gotten a lot better about editing myself down fjdsklf)

but writing that was just. i mean. i genuinely don't remember any of it. i wrote it through one of the worst manic episodes of my life lmfao. things were Not Good for me mentally. the process is mostly shrouded with a lot of grief and anger and Other Bad Things.

i do look back at it a little more fondly nowadays, though. ONLY because so many people also still seem to—i can't honestly say i love the quality of it, but, y'know, if it MEANS something to so many people, then it will always mean something to me, too!!

i'm sure i have the notes i wrote for that audio recording somewhere. if i can't recover the audio recording, i'll be sure to upload the speaking points of it at the very least for y'all. ily. thanks for the message <33
