To Dust
He ran across the rocky terrain, terrified and crying. None of his pleas for help had worked. Every turn he took, he looked back over his shoulder, in fear. He got a break when he hid in a dark cave.
As she walked by, he stifled his breath. When she looked into the cave, he closed his eyes, praying to the Princesses for it to be over. But her hoofsteps faded, and eventually, the area grew silent.
Quietly, he made his way to the edge of the cave. There was nopony else. Maybe she had gone? But as he stepped out, a pebble fell, and that's when he saw her. Her eyes were dark and she held a blade.
The young colt ran as fast as he could, once again screaming for help. His eyes hurt because of the dust and tears, and when he closed them, he tripped. She charged at him, and he waited for the end.
But then, the sound of metal hitting metal pierced his ears, accompanied by the gentle twinkling of magic. When he opened his eyes, a Mare, with a snow-white mane, stood before him, wielding a sword.
He was pushed away, though he felt nothing touching him. The Mare calmly asked him to stay back and to remain calm. He could utter but a single phrase through his elation: "Please, do not hurt her."
The Mare nodded, still effortlessly holding back the filly and her great blade. She knew the child could be saved if she was quick. The dark, foul blade hummed, and she tried to push the Mare away.
But the Mare moved not, as she stood defiantly, waiting for the moment to disarm her opponent. When the filly charged her, she stepped aside, and when the blade hit the ground, she broke the handle.
Instantly, the filly shook her head, her eyes cleared, and she happily trotted to her friend to ask him if he was okay. The colt rose to his hooves, hugged his friend, and quietly thanked the Mare.
The Mare put away her sword, smiled gently, and nodded, before laying her hoof on the cursed blade, and quietly whispering. Then, the darkness faded, the blade turned to rust, and it was blown away.
"How evil the Veiled One must be, willing to curse a child…"
