wait, what happened?
charlie posted a video on his vods channel explaining that he quit streaming back in October (when he privately fired all his mods without any words to them and they all had to be quiet about it) and now he's explaining that he's returning tomorrow for a stream on both slmccl (YouTube) and slimecicle (twitch). problem is all of his mods are still fired and there's no blocked terms in the twitch chat. he's kept around 3 mods total to moderate both chats at the same time. Like an idiot. this is going to be a shit show and the mods i know are so livid they're calling for people to ruin the chats intentionally

Actually, while I'm thinking about Near,
Nate (Near) River Headcanons!
1. He has albinism. And it is so funny for everyone. No, L's successor cannot play with you outdoors, he will burn and scorch and end up looking like roast pork. No, the smartest kid at whammy's can't read without glasses, his eyes lack melanin. Does this go slightly against canon, yes, but I don't care.
2. Most autistic person you've ever met, excluding maybe L. Not only does he suck at face to face social cues and showing emotions at appropriate times, but I can image him crying over the tag in his shirt until someone cuts it off. There's a reason he wears those same white pyjamas every day, they're safe.
3. Near was insanely young when taken in by Whammy's. We're talking witnessing the death of his parents at three, kind of young. He doesn't know his parents' faces. He knows nothing but detective work.
4. Near struggles with Christmas. Only because people buy him the same thing every year. He's got seven blank white puzzles, and one blank black one Mello got him one year that he hasn't touched since Mello's death.

Ay, ay, just here to echo those sentiments.
If part two is super long, I'll be super happy.
🥺 awww im so glad honestly because it’s 7K+ at the moment and I still have…4-6 scenes left lol — im hoping to get through some of my favorite scenes today so I def need to be in the right headspace when I write so I probably will spend a bit listening to music
i still haven’t found my song for this fic which is annoying

Art snobs are actually a thousand times less annoying than people who respond to everything with "it's not that deep bro"

bro, so like...
yesterday i watched the film version of clue for the first time in a couple years, and like...
i wasn't really in a laughing mood, i was just spellbound. i'm realizing this film, despite its thin premise based on a board game is sometimes difficult to follow for it reaches states of sensory overload which registers to the intellect as if not simply mundane, then juvenile?
the set-pieces veer back and forth wildly between madcap witty dialogue which luxuriates openly in the technical absurdity of how we construct language and these dry and drawn out sight gags which mainly revolve around lifting and coordinating the placement of bodies, be they dead or alive.
there's of course consistent overtones of nationalist paranoia hanging over the film, what with its cold war victorian mansion setting, which prompts the placement of the line "communism was just a red herring" in all three endings.
the endings only contribute to the simultaneous feeling of flimsiness and sensory overload.
rather than being the reason why the film fails as a mystery, each ending, if seen as a one-off in the theater, would have dramatically re-framed the preceeding events, forcing the viewer to think about the hows and whys of what happened... maybe with friends who saw a different ending.
it would be like you and the other person saw a completely different film which each "said" different things about American life
bro, you think it's just a coincidence the ending where mrs. peacock improbably does it all herself was an accident? bro, they're like... openly talking about FBI cover-ups in that one. come on, bro. make the connections. use ur brain. movies are sposed to make u think, not spoonfeed you all the answers?
having all three endings lined up in a row on the DVD release doesn't speak to that same broader chaotic probability, but rather channels and hyperfocuses the disorientation, revealing the film's singular core and the success at its true aim. Namely: being a deterministic comedy about how elemental forces play out on the American gameboard.
