This beautiful striped costume has been worn five times over the years. It was almost certainly made for the 2004 mini-series North & South, where Daniela Denby-Ashe wore it as Margaret Hale. It made another appearance the very next year in Bleak House, where Gillian Anderson wore it as Lady Honoria Dedlock. At this time, a belt and buckle were added to the costume – a feature that stayed with the piece as it continued to be used.
In 2009, the outfit was worn by Michelle Dockery as Erminia Whyte in Cranford Christmas. Next, the dress was seen in the 2016 production To Walk Invisible, where Gracie Kelly wore it as Ellen Nussey. In 2020, it appeared in the first season of Belgravia, where Tamsin Greig wore it as Anne Trenchard. At this point, it appears that additional fabric has been added to the front, either for a different look or to enlarge the piece. This piece may be a separate vest under the jacket or may be made to look like one, with the “vest” sewn to the jacket.
Finally, in 2023, the piece was seen in the episode of The Artful Dodger entitled The Duel, where Maia Mitchell wore it as Lady Belle Fox.
This fabric has been used many more times on several other costumes. Click the link below to see more.

Flashback: Adam Nagaitis as an art model for Vanessa Garwood's 'King Robin' painting, 2015
(+ 'The Gun Portrait' of the Brontë family)
Tumblr media
I love the fact that Adam posed for a painting! Even if the character is not the kindest one. (When was it an obstacle for him, right? 🙂)

The Terror and some really convoluted fanfic ideas:
1) It's March, and for some reason Franklin starts to get more and more suspicious of Fitzjames, despite being almost a father figure to him. And he's right.
2) Crozier is being, well... himself. And Hickey risks himself to save others, even though he wasn't on duty, and dies terrible death. Also he's married and that's genuinely very sweet
3) Hickey is still involved in some torrid love affairs, also has serious problems with substance abuse and, consequently, with his family. Besides, he's a former "gifted child" and a complete mess. Edit: Tozer is here too and he's kinda in love(?) with Hickey.

Some things wrong about Emily (2022)
So we watched Emily (2022) recently, and it left us feeling conflicted with a desire to explain why — spoilers below the cut.
Note: we made this list before we read the film's summary saying that it “imagines the transformative, exhilarating, and uplifting journey to womanhood of a rebel and misfit”, along with a statement acknowledging that it mixes known biographical details with imagined situations and relationships.
Anne and Emily’s close relationship is not represented (in childhood they were “like twins”, and they were inseparable companions).
The romanticisation of drug use; there are closeup shots of Emily's pupils constricting and then scenes of her frolicking on the moors with pleasant music, etc. (there is zero evidence of Emily using drugs).
Emily and William have an affair/sexual intercourse multiple times when there is no evidence of Emily ever being romantically in love with anyone (this seems to have been the main part in the “uplifting journey to womanhood”, as if a virgin in their 20s isn't already a woman; Victorian morals were thrown out the window).
William Weightman’s characterisation (on his monument it says he was “greatly respected for his orthodox principles, moral habits...”).
Wuthering Heights is written after Branwell’s death and apparently because of Emily's feelings following the death of William Weightman (her lover). The book is also not initially published under Emily's pen name Ellis Bell (it wasn't until two years after her death that it was published using her name).
The family's pets are omitted, when the siblings were all known to be animal lovers particularly Emily herself (not even one dog was shown).
The Yorkshire accents go in and out (not that this is a big problem, but if you're going to do accents, do them professionally).
The lack of display of all the sister’s writing interest and abilities, along with how they would write to supplement income.
There probably are other points that we didn't address, alas we can't think of anymore. Honestly, it’s disappointing and almost repulsive that this film is receiving positive feedback (particularly because of its female writer and director), when it clearly has many overlooked faults and anachronisms. People can say it has the loveliest cinematography, soundtrack, acting, etc., but those elements alone are not what make a film good. Based on what we know about the Brontës, we much rather recommend the film To Walk Invisible (2016) and the series The Brontës of Haworth (1973) — both are actually authentic and more historically accurate.

We decided to make a fan site about Adam Nagaitis because we can't afford to take out billboards to tell everyone how great we think he is. It just went live yesterday, and there's more things to come on it. :)

I wanted to put these recommendations in my post about the Emily movie but that was long enough, so here goes. If you’re looking for better adaptations of the lives of the Brontës:
The Brontës of Haworth (streaming on Amazon Prime) This is a meticulous, five-hour BBC miniseries from 1973. Like most British TV of that era, the production values are minimalist (almost rudimentary at times)---but the simplicity creates an immersive effect. You feel like you’re right there, in the parsonage with the family (it was actually shot on location, in the parsonage, Haworth, and on the surrounding moors).
The series covers the Brontës’ lives from childhood all the way through Charlotte’s death, focusing more on their private lives than on the sisters’ artistic success (someday we’ll get to see Charlotte as the toast of London that she briefly was!) Every character is perfectly cast: plain in appearance but passionate in spirit. The script and performances respect the audience’s intelligence by remaining faithful to the era and to the Brontës. They convey the creative fire that burned within these unassuming people without any anachronistic bullshit to make them “relatable” to modern viewers. (In other words, you won’t see a tousle-haired, randy Emily snogging the curate.) It’s a long, slow, quiet watch, perfect to binge over a wintry weekend -- it might even give you some dark academia vibes, if you’re into that.
To Walk Invisible (streaming on Amazon Prime) I recommend this 2016 BBC movie for its excellent casting and exquisite visuals. Sadly, the story is a little lacking because it’s mostly about Branwell. The title comes from a real letter of Charlotte’s, in which she lamented the fate of women “to walk invisible” while men got to pursue lives of purpose and action. That’s pretty ironic, because this pic sidelines the three genius sisters to focus on their ne’er-do-well brother, the only son and the only Brontë kid who never amounted to anything. An odd choice, especially since it was written and directed by a woman. This is really one to watch because it’s pretty, but it’s also blessedly free of anachronisms and fictitious sexytimes.

"TO WALK INVISIBLE" (2016) Review
Tumblr media
"TO WALK INVISIBLE" (2016) Review Years ago, I had viewed a 1946 movie called "DEVOTION". It was a fictionalized movie about the lives of the Brontë sisters. Needless to say, I had finished the movie feeling less than impressed. I also recently viewed the 1973 BBC miniseries, "THE BRONTES OF HAWORTH". I considered it an improvement over the 1946 film but found myself turned off by the bombastic dialogue. In the end, I discovered "TO WALK INVISIBLE", another biopic about the Brontë sisters. Despite my disappointment in the previous two productions about the sisters, I decided to give it a chance.
Unlike previous cinematic biographies of the Brontë family, the setting for "TO WALK INVISIBLE" during the three-year period between 1845 and 1848. The series began with the family's reunion at their home in Yorkshire, after Branwell Brontë was dismissed from his position as tutor, and Anne Brontë, who had been working as a governess for the same family, resignation. Anne reluctantly informed her two sisters - Emily and Charlotte - that Branwell had been dismissed for his sexual affair with the mistress of the house. The three sisters came to the conclusion that despite years working as governesses or housekeeping for their father, the Reverend Patrick Brontë, they had continued their one passion - writing. However, the sisters eventually realized the possibility of a bleak future for themselves, and they could no longer regard their writing as a mere hobby. Reverend Brontë's was becoming increasingly blind. The sisters also realized they could not depend upon Bramwell to support them, due to his alcoholism, lies and erratic behavior. Due to this realization, the three sisters decided to embark upon professional careers as authors in order to support the family's financial situation . . . and maintain their love for writing. "TO WALK INVISIBLE" has to be the only Brontë family biopic that has failed to bore me. I think it is a well-paced drama that did an excellent job of exploring the family's emotional dynamics. Thanks to Sally Wainwright, it featured some tight writing. What I mean is . . . Wainwright did not drag the story's pacing, making it unnecessarily long. Yet, at the same time, she prevented the narrative at dashing forward at breakneck speed. Wainwright's excellent direction also helped the production. Another aspect of "TO WALK INVISIBLE" that I found interesting was its raw portrayal of the Brontës' lives in Yorkshire. Most period dramas have a tendency to project of veneer of gentility in its production designs. The most "genteel" or "sophisticated" aspect of production designs for "TO WALK INVISIBLE" seemed to be Grant Montgomery's designs for Charlotte and Anne Brontë's journey to London in the movie's second half and Tom Pye's costume designs for the Charlotte Brontë character. However, Montgomery's production designs were not the only aspect of this movie that projected its raw portrayal of the Brontës' lives. I could also say the same about Wainwright's portrayal of financial desperation that faced the family by 1845 and Bramwell Brontë's behavior and the consequences. "THE WALK INVISIBLE" was not the first period drama from the U.K. that convey the more rugged aspect of life before the 20th century. But Wainwright's writing, dialogue (especially for Bramwell) and direction injected a certain rawness and energy that seemed more suited for crime dramas or war movies. And I loved it. I cannot deny that I truly enjoyed the performances for "TO WALK INVISIBLE" - especially from those who portrayed the four Brontë siblings. Finn Adkins projected a great deal of emotional energy as the uber ambitious Charlotte Brontë. Chloe Pirrie struck me as equally energetic as the moody and sharp-tongued Emily Brontë, who also projected a fierce sense of protection toward her family - especially her father. Adam Nagaitis nearly stole the movie as the only brother, Branwell Brontë. I have to admit I found it fascinating to watch Nagaitis convey how Bramwell's self-destructive tendencies - alcohol and drug addiction, insecurity, and a licentious love affair with an employer's wife - led him to destroy the artistic potential within him. I realize that many would disagree with me, but I believe Charlie Murphy had the most difficult role in this production - that of the family's youngest sibling, Anne Brontë. I thought Murphy did an excellent job of portraying both Anne's reserved nature that barely hid a driving ambition. It is the type of role that people tend to ignore . . . just as many literary critics had ignored Anne Brontë for over a century. And finally, there was Jonathan Pryce, who portrayed the siblings' surviving parent, Patrick Brontë. I would not regard the Reverend Brontë as one of Pryce's most interesting roles. But I cannot deny that he gave a very solid performance as the family's patriarch, whose control and protection seemed to be in a decline due to age and oncoming blindness. If there is another biographical production about the Brontë family that I might regard as compelling, please let me know. I realize that "TO WALK INVISIBLE" is not historically accurate - at least not completely. But thanks to the raw and energetic wiring and direction of Sally Wainwright, along with a superb cast, the two-part production did more to ignite my interest in the Brontë family than any other biopic or miniseries I have ever seen.

Danny is just a kid ya know? Like he is just a little guy. A baby really. 14? Tiny child! Look at him, he needs to be protected. Someone has to help this poor little dude. I mean he forgets to use his own powers to avoid attacks all the time.
Anyway cut to Batfam not knowing all of Dannys power set cause the lil dingus keeps forgetting he can do that stuff in the heat of battle.
Danny uses his invisibility all the time… to avoid being followed. But in a fight? Oopsies hes too busy thinking of funny one liners to realise he could do that.
Intangibility? Give the guy a break. I mean who calls themselves condiment king. Even he was stunned.
He so rarely actually uses his biggest advantage powers that the League doubt he actually has them. He, like any naive child, trusts them and reported fully on his power set. Instead of just asking him to demonstrate his powers they instead start watching him and try to find evidence of his powers.
At least they know duplication was true since they watched him make a copy of himself to go to the bathroom and not miss any of his fav tv show.
