When you remember "Dazai's Entrance Exam" exists, I actually think it's kind of funny how Dazai decided that Atsushi would join the ADA.

Also I loved reading The Alchemist but I seriously need to get my own copy for a reread. Have you heard of No Longer Human by Dazai Osamu? It’s Japanese classic literature and I was very emotional by the end of it because at that point in my life I could really relate with so many things the author wrote abt. I need to reread it eventually with a new set of eyes and now that I’m in a much better place in life. I actually first got into it because of Bungo Steay Dogs LEAVE ME ALONE I FOUND SOME VERY GOOD BOOKS THROUGH THAT ANIME ASHKHFFGCC. I’m currently in the long process of making my way through H.P. Lovecrafts stories and I need to start Crime and Punishment at some point but we’re not ready for that level of commitment and annotating yet 💀. Do you annotate books? I only recently got into it and sometimes I hate it but other times I love it. Like I hate it when it starts to feel like another homework assignment but I love it when it helps me collect my thoughts and I can take my time to actually digest what I’m reading. So it’s a 50/50 experience. From my birthday book spree, I got the omnibus (joint) volumes 10-11-12 of One Piece (I’m collecting all the omnibus volume sets where it’s like 3 volumes in one manga cause collecting the box sets is really expensive and I’m a very impatient person sometimes lol), the omnibus volume 1-2 and 3-4 of Tokyo Revengers (when I found out that they had finally released physical English versions of the manga I walked into Barnes and Noble with the mission to get that volume first and foremost and I was so excited and surprised and happy that they had also released the second omnibus volume too so I got both at the same time rereading Tokyo Revengers from the beginning is so nostalgic and makes me cry so much but in a good way because at this point in the story everything’s still almost great and happy), I also got volume 2 of Blue Lock and ordered volumes 1 and 3 (I figured I might as well start collecting the manga now so I can start binge reading immediately after the first season ends). I also got actual book books too. One was a new buy (not from my tbr list) and it’s called Belladonna by Adalyn Grace (one of the store people recommended it to me last time I was there and it sounded fun and interesting so I got it, it’s also hardcover since it’s new, and oh man I haven’t purchased a hardcover in such a long time lol), Kingdom of the Wicked by Kerri Maniscalco (it’s was all over my fyp for a while but that’s not the reason I got it, I got it because a lot of my favorite booktokkers recommended it and it’s not mainstream, made that mistake with The Poppy War already, so I got it), and the paperback copy of The Hawthorne Legacy by Jennifer Lynn Barnes (idk why this book got so much hate but I liked the first one so we shall see). Oh and I’m also rereading PJO in honor of the show coming out soon. Do you like Percy Jackson? The trailer for the show was asvjgdffff amazing it was like seeing my childhood come to life I have high hopes for the show. And I’m also reading Chainsaw Man rn because I had gotten volumes 1-5 already before the anime started cause I heard it was great and I wanted to be ahead if the show you know but I finished volume 3 before life happened so I wanna start reading it again. Anyways how are you? Doing good I hope? Have you eaten and drank water today? *sends virtual hugs*

The moment I read 'no longer human by Dazai Osamu' I knew it had to be BSD 💀 and reading further I turned out to be right; I’ll have to give it a try though. With Japanese books, I have the memoirs of a geisha and another autobiography of a geisha and ikigai. Murakami’s works have been complimented a lot so I’m contemplating if I should read that or not… maybe once I’m done with this book.
I tried reading Brida and Valkyrie by Paulo coelho but I was too young and didn’t understand it 😮‍💨
I do annotate books! It’s kinda a necessity atp being a uni student; but otherwise I annotate books as well cause life lessons to use later amirite?
I have a bleach Omnibus, a black edition of death note but otherwise I read manga online cause it’s easier in a way but for book books, I prefer the physical copy when I use travel or something along with music playing. Music makes the experience of reading good and even when I’m working or writing something. Most of the recs I get are from friends and family or something I pick up when I’m out shopping for books. I’ve heard of Lovecraft’s books but I’ve never had the chance of reading them… I read mostly non fiction works but I do enjoy a good horror.
Funny thing, I started getting into Percy Jackson in eighth grade cause my peers were reading it but in five pages of lightening thief I just stopped reading for some reason? But. I managed to finish twilight in two days and proceeded to buy the entire collection. Then I sold it off cause I realized I was being cringe and it was a phase (I’m so embarrassed of even telling this story 😭) and then I read Harry Potter as well… managed to finish the goblet of fire and I had other books in the series as well like the order of the phoenix but I decided to give those away and finally found my place in mangas and anime and works of non fiction… the only fiction I read recently was Verity by colleen Hoover ; and that inspired me to write ruined Rome (which is currently on hold and will continue once I edit the new changes into it)
As for chainsawman , that manga provided me comfort in a way cause i had to travel at that time since a member of my family had passed away. And while I was at the funeral, I wasn’t in a good shape cause we were pretty close so I decided to read chainsawman and the story of Pochita and Denji gave me an odd sense of comfort I would say? Cause it’s like ‘I’ll always be a part of you.’
Switching onto the lighter side of things, people are going crazy over Makima and I’m just waiting for mappa to animate that part 😶‍🌫️
I’m doing good bb <3 worked out this morning, got through two bottles of water, had brekky and my roommate is planning to cut my hair this week and I’m also working on an art of me and Aiku (yes I am that obsessed, but hey selfship is the best ship) uni goes on; and I’m doing work in advance so that I can relax later (I’m so sleepy but caffeine isn’t good for my system as much so I stick to just milk), writing a lot more and studying as well. How about you? I hope you’re doing well and taking care of yourself?
*sending hugs*

so after reading, rereading, and rereading the manga and watching the anime so many times i don’t need subtitles i think i want to put together a shin soukoku analysis
so without further ado, here’s a shin soukoku analysis of their dynamic
🔺spoilers for the main manga series (especially chapters 84-87), and Dead Apple🔺
this post rivals the length of a bsd light novel so there’s a condensed tldr paragraph under the cut. i’m only slightly exaggerating. slightly…
here’s my “this post is the length of a light novel” summary: Aku and Atsushi were unable to look passed their personal quarrels with each other in order to function as a unit. Aku never gives up trying to kill Atsushi, even in the middle of their missions, and Atsushi isn’t above getting mad at Aku for being a little too murdery. this keeps sskk from working as a whole, and prevented them from actually being a proper duo with their abilities like they should’ve been and like what Dazai was striving for in them
Tumblr media
the whole reason why they met in the first place was because Aku wanted the money from the bounty the Guild put on Atsushi. in fact, Aku wasn’t even supposed to kill him for the bounty, he just decided “yeah i’m feeling murdery today”. when Aku finds out Atsushi works for Dazai as his new subordinate, Aku has a motive outside of homicidal tendencies to kill Atsushi: he’s spiteful (not jealous. well, maybe a little) that Dazai would abandon Aku for someone who is as weak as Atsushi is in Aku’s eyes. he wants to kill Atsushi so Dazai will finally acknowledge his strength. however, Dazai decides to use Aku for his own plans by manipulating him into fighting beside Atsushi instead of against him
Rashoumon, The Tiger, and the Last Tycoon
here, we see the first “i want to kill you myself, so you better not die here” moment between Aku and Atsushi. after being beat up by Fitzgerald, Atsushi does his usual thing of lying on the floor while reminiscing about how powerless he is. except this time, instead of someone from the ADA coming to his aid, it’s Aku. and he just. kicks him… a few times… but the important thing here isn’t the physical interaction itself, it’s the fact that the interaction happened. up to this point we’ve only seen Aku try to actively kill Atsushi, but in this moment, we see him not do that in favor of telling him to stand up and fight. Fitzgerald also presents a piece of information about Atsushi that Aku didn’t know, which is his upbringing and ultimately his reason for fighting. Aku then acknowledges Atsushi’s reason for fighting and stabs him over it, and then Atsushi also has the realization of why Aku fights and kills during this conversation. after the Fitzgerald fight starts, Aku and Atsushi have revelations in their own way regarding their reasons to fight. Akutagawa tells Atsushi his past is not related to who he is now, and Atsushi tells Akutagawa that Dazai approved of him long ago… this interaction allows them to fight beside each other with a mutual understanding of one another, which is a big step in the shin soukoku partnership
there’s also the fact that Aku uses Rashoumon to save Atsushi when he gets punched off the Moby Dick, but this can be left to Aku knowing he can’t win alone and needs Atsushi’s combat ability, and also that Aku wants to kill Atsushi himself. he even says that after wrapping Atsushi’s tiger hand with Rashoumon for the final blow; “die, jinko”. doesn’t get much more on the nose than that

*chefs kiss*
Dead Apple
so Aku’s interactions with Atsushi during Dead Apple are… something. Aku doesn’t try to kill Atsushi during any scene they’re together in. in fact, he even suggests to Kyouka that she could kill him while they don’t have their abilities because of the fog. this seems very unlike Aku, since he’s usually openly hostile towards Atsushi. it could just be because he doesn’t have his ability, but i don’t think so. Aku’s conversations with Atsushi are short. and the most notable one is when Aku literally says one line to Atsushi after they all reclaim their abilities, but the tiger doesn’t return: “have you seriously not figured it out yet?” this makes perfect sense with the context that Aku knows Atsushi hates his own ability. this isn’t the first time Aku has insulted him about his lack of confidence either, even back in the Fitzgerald fight Aku commented on how Atsushi has no confidence in himself or his ability
Atsushi is the most confident we’ve ever seen him during the Shibusawa fight, having full confidence in combat and in his allies to do what they need to do. this is kind of a shin skk moment i guess when Aku helps Atsushi corner Shibusawa so he can lock him in for the final struggle, but i think the more important moments were Aku revealing that he is starting to know Atsushi a bit better than just as someone who fights for a reason to live
Aku: i want to kill you myself, so you better not die here
Atsushi: …the lesser of two evils i guess
incorrect bsd quote
Tumblr media
Atsushi can be pretty short-tempered with Aku, which is another one of the flaws in shin skk. Chuuya is the same way with Dazai but this is much different than soukoku’s bickering…
during this mission, Aku and Atsushi are paired up from the start by Dazai. this is important, because Dazai’s conversation with Hirotsu regarding shin skk is that Aku and Atsushi are the new devastating rivals that will be able to defeat upcoming threats. why them? the singularity that is created when their abilities interact. had we seen this yet at this point in the story? no but oh boy we’re about to. an epicly funny chase scene ensues, and then we’re introduced to an enemy gifted, and Aku and Atsushi still win this battle easily. the important scenes here are both of them saying the same line, that they’ve tried to kill each other enough times before to know what the other is thinking when coming up with a plan. the very next scene is one of the most important shin skk moments… Aku and Atsushi are in a trap set by the enemy, and there’s only one way out… Aku takes the initiative of placing his full trust in their partnership and he gives Atsushi Rashoumon. this allows Atsushi to escape the trap, and also reveals the special singularity that’s created when they use their abilities together: the special move that extends Atsushi’s claws, the tiger’s claws that can cut through other abilities
Tumblr media
this move does 2 things:
1. it reveals the singularity Dazai mentioned before, and shows just how powerful the shin skk pairing is and why it was important to make this partnership happen in the first place. with og soukoku, Chuuya is a powerhouse all by himself, but with shin skk, Aku acts as the perfect support to Atsushi’s combat ability and allows them to push the limits of their capabilities, which is exactly why Dazai paired them together
2. it shows how the trust in shin soukoku is developing. after i did my theory on soukoku and chapter 101 *sobs*, i realized how important trust is in every partnership we see in bsd. and now, we see Aku go all-in by leaving himself vulnerable while supporting Atsushi with Rashoumon. but does Atsushi trust Aku?
the answer is… honestly, no.
They really fuzzed this one up…
Tumblr media
yeah i’m pulling panels straight out the official translation on kindle we don’t talk about that. also Dazai in the last panel *faints*
Aku is ordered by Dazai to tail and save Atsushi when he’s in trouble, which is exactly what happens during the fight with Fukuchi. the other thing that happens, is Aku saying some very important things to Atsushi:
“Do we need any more?” an answer to Atsushi asking how just the two of them could beat Fukuchi. Aku knows how powerful they are together, and believes that their combined capabilities can overcome impossible odds. but Atsushi doesn’t…
“No, I mean YOU.” Aku reminisces on how he feels like Dazai replaced him with Atsushi, but that’s probably not actually true. Aku realizes that Dazai wanted to see if Aku was capable of relying on and trusting another person. until now, Aku has believed he’s powerful enough by himself, but he’s realized it’s okay to fight with a partner, and it makes him more powerful even. Dazai has also noticed his strength now after fighting beside Atsushi instead of against him
“I keep my promises.” Aku made a promise to Atsushi that he wouldn’t kill for 6 months. Atsushi obviously doubted Aku, which shows the lack of trust on Atsushi’s part. Aku has been told by Dazai already that he’s strong, and Atsushi has also told Aku that he’s strong, and Aku believed them and keeps his promise to Atsushi to prove it, but Atsushi doesn’t accept it
Tumblr media Tumblr media
this scene is extremely important because Atsushi is telling Aku that they can’t win against Fukuchi, but Aku on the other hand knows how strong they are together when they combine their abilities. Aku has confidence and trust in the strength that comes from their partnership, so much so that he believes they are capable of killing a god. Aku also knows that he’s mostly defenseless without his coat, but he trusts Atsushi enough to give it to him anyway even in this extremely dangerous fight because he believes in Atsushi to be able to win. Atsushi just… doesn’t really ever show this same level of trust in their partnership
Fukuchi points out this fatal flaw in shin skk by quite literally saying they failed because “you did not trust in each other”. Aku and Atsushi fought with their abilities by themselves instead of pairing them to defeat the enemy. neither Aku nor Atsushi were 100% in on their partnership, and therefore they didn’t trust each other to use their abilities together. the difference between og soukoku and shin skk is Dazai and Chuuya constantly talk about trying to kill each other, but their actions tell a very different story. Chuuya acts on Dazai’s plans and will try his best to keep him safe because he knows Dazai can’t fight, and Dazai tries his best to find plans that don’t involve Chuuya getting too hurt or making him use Corruption. they place full trust in each other and in their partnership. with shin skk, Aku has literally attacked Atsushi mid-mission and isn’t above using Atsushi as bait and allowing him to get hurt. and Atsushi sees Aku as someone who acts on his own goals instead of the mission, and doesn’t think he can put his trust in Aku and often questions why Dazai paired them up in the first place when they’re not compatible on a personal level. and he’s not entirely wrong here, but you could say the same thing about Dazai and Chuuya, and they’re still able to look passed that during missions when they need to work together
after Atsushi realizes Fukuchi is right, he admits he can’t place his full trust in Aku because he thinks that would be too reckless. Atsushi doesn’t trust Aku to use Rashoumon to protect him while he fights head-on, which is the most optimal way for them to fight together. Aku knows how strong Atsushi’s combat ability is, but i think he’s hesitant to believe that Atsushi would actually fight in the face of such adversity because Atsushi has no confidence in himself
Fukuchi tries to make Aku kill Atsushi by taking advantage of the lack of trust between the two. however, Fukuchi’s line to Aku does the absolute opposite of what he wanted it to do here: Fukuchi says to Akutagawa “is his life that important to you?” (referring to Atsushi). and Aku’s reaction is more than what it seems here, it’s not him going ‘well, no’, it’s Aku acknowledging why he’s on that mission in the first place: to save Atsushi on Dazai’s orders, and Aku says this to Atsushi: “I’m not afraid to die, what I fear is dying without Dazai-san’s approval.” this is extremely important because he’s NOT talking about killing Atsushi, he’s talking about saving him like Dazai told him to. and he proves this again after revealing that he’s going to die from a lung disease, he says he “absolutely cannot afford to disappoint Dazai-san.” Atsushi realizes that Aku means he can’t fail his mission of aiding Atsushi
and finally, when Atsushi puts all of his trust in Aku, and Aku puts all of his trust in Atsushi, shin soukoku in it’s true first, but final moments…
Tumblr media
then plot comes in and is like sorry, but no
but they forged that bond of trust too late. i think shin skk failed here because Aku and Atsushi weren’t able to trust each other until that final moment. if they’d had that element of trust there in the beginning of the fight, i think they would’ve absolutely won here. personal conflict keeps them from achieving the levels of trust that og soukoku has that makes Dazai and Chuuya so formidable as a duo. despite them talking about killing each other and doing nothing but bickering, they can put their personal conflicts aside in order to work together as partners based on mutual trust. Aku and Atsushi were never able to reach that, until now. and it was too late. you damn fools…
i still think it’s important to remember that they were able to finally bond at the end though because it means that if shin soukoku does come back, they will likely be able to function as a proper duo now that they’ve seen that they can put their trust (and their lives) in each other’s hands and win (even though they still lost…) so i really hope we get to see some shin soukoku moments where they’re fighting with Atsushi in front up-close and personal while Aku aids him from behind like a proper duo. or we see Atsushi kill vampire Aku. *shrugs*
well, that’s pretty much all i have for this analysis. i’m sorry this was SO long but i didn’t want to skip over important details that really show their dynamics. thanks for reading! here’s a bonus Sigma theory that i touched on in my soukoku ch101 theory but didn’t do a good job on
Tumblr media
my profile pic scene lol i relate… *shuffles away*
Dazai compares Sigma to Atsushi during their conversations. he says that they’re both meek, which could be referring to how easily Dazai can manipulate Atsushi or how Atsushi doesn’t see Dazai as inherently evil. Sigma is shown to not truly grasp just how formidable Dazai is, as he’s shocked when Dazai trapped Dostoy and Chuuya, and even thinks Dazai has already won. this also means he doesn’t know how equally formidable Dostoy is though.. Sigma also has been going along with Dazai’s plans so far, and Dazai is giving away extremely valuable information to Sigma. i think Dazai is doing this because he wants Sigma on the ADA’s side right now, but it’s unclear why. it could be for his gift—information exchange. it could be because Dazai is trying to slowly rid DoA of members until only Fukuchi is left. it’s really just unclear at this point in the story as to why Dazai decided to do this to poor Sigma… pray for him y’all

Traditionally warning: Bungou Stray Dogs Manga Spoilers!
My thought for today:
Why Mushitarō know so much about Decay of Angels?
I remember, that he was the one who tell Atsushi and others about DoA plan, he knew even when it's planned for Yokohama to stop existence. But, it was ever explained why he know that?
I did a special manga reread for it, and found no answer (Or maybe I just don't get it! Tell me if you know!). Ango just asked him to tell them what the DoA plan was and he just replied.
We know, that Mushitarō was working with Fyodor in cannibalism, and maybe Fyodor just tell him the truth? But... Why? I have one answer:
Fyodor wanted to give the ADA a fake hope, make them believe there is still a chance of winning. And yes, that is a possible answer, and I believe in this one!
But that sounds a bit of a stretch
I just start to think, that Mushitarō play such a bigger role in BSD , than I think.
Anyway, I don't know is this making sense;
