The Daughter's Return: Part 3
Chapter 1: Sick with Dread
Part One | Next Chapter | Table of Contents | Read on AO3
There are a lot of new people here who may not know I have an ongoing series, so here's a little info about it. It started as a request and quickly grew into a multichapter fic (the longest one I've ever created!) The reader is Whitebeard's Daughter, who has a volcano devil fruit ability and who has been away for two years, only to return and meet a familiar spunky fire user. There's nineteen chapters before this, so you might want to go read those first for some background information, but we've just entered the start of what leads to the Marineford arc, so things are about to get real. It's a commitment, but I believe it's worth it if you're looking for a character-centric in-depth story!
If you're keeping up with the story, releases will be on Monday and Thursday unless I say otherwise!
Characters: female reader x Portgas D. Ace Word Count: 1.5k
You were fairly certain you were about to die. Jinx hadn’t left you alone for days. Jinx, who couldn’t stand you or your presence. Jinx, who only saw you as competition from the moment Ace saved her from that stupid box and she claimed him as her own.
That cat had hated you from the moment it saw you. But now she was curled up on your chest, sleeping soundly. You could’ve sworn she was just waiting for the moment your heart stopped, so she could boastfully sit atop your corpse. That’s just how Jinx was.
You couldn’t blame her; you were an easy target right now. The Spring ecosystem you were in had completely messed with your allergies. It was only a matter of time before she would be able to smother you and completely get away with murder. Some days you were so sick, you couldn’t even get out of bed to go throw up. Today was one of those days.
You were sick from allergies and sick with worry. It was one day past due for Thatch to report back to the ship before the crew would have to send in a second team. He could’ve been caught, or killed, or tied up and made a mockery of. You had plenty of time to think about it, since you were basically bedridden at this point.
You were certain the commanders and strategists were all thinking of a plan to go find out what had occurred, but it would take at least two days to mobilize them. And in that time, Thatch could be taken away or sunk to the bottom of the ocean. It hurt to breathe just thinking about it.
The door opened quietly, and you heard Ace’s voice from the doorframe. “Are you awake?” he whispered. “I have someone here for you.”
“I’m awake,” you said, your voice scratchy and raw. You almost got your hopes up about the visitor, but Ace sounded solemn, which was a good indicator that the visitor wasn’t Thatch.
Marco stepped inside instead, and you groaned at his appearance. “Just let me die, Marco. Leave me alone.”
He hummed, frowning over your body as you laid in bed. “I’d really like to run some tests,” Marco said. “The concept of fever and colds are completely foreign to your body, and yet something is clearly off. You shouldn’t be this sick for so long.”
“Or maybe the substitute cook has been cooking so badly he gave me food poisoning that’s lasted the past two weeks,” you shot back. “I want Thatch back.”
“I know.” Marco sat down on the bed next to you. “He’ll be home soon. In the meantime, let me get some bloodwork to check out.”
“No,” you hissed, pulling your arm away from him. “I told you, it’s just allergies.”
Marco looked at you with skepticism. He knew that it wasn’t just allergies, and you did too.
“Allergies don’t make people throw up,” he reminded you gently.
“Worry does,” you argued. “And so does food poisoning. So leave me alone.”
“If you’re not better by tomorrow, I’m taking your blood by force,” Marco said, getting up and heading for the door. He gave Ace a knowing look, as if to say “Good luck!” and then left you two alone.
Marco had dealt with your varieties of illnesses over the years, and he knew you were too stubborn and whiny to listen to any of his advice. But for Ace, this was relatively new territory. You had been sick a few times over the past few months, but it had never been anything serious. Not like this. But you had been sick with worry ever since Thatch left. Something just didn’t feel right about this mission.
Ace laid down next to you and began to brush your matted hair from your face, but instantly pulled back.
He scowled at you. “I know you’re upset and want to be alone, but you don’t have to burn me.”
“I’m tired and I want to rest,” you groaned, turning away from him in bed. “Just let me sleep for a little bit, please?”
Ace sighed and got up from the bed. It was clear Marco must’ve given him some pointers.
“I’ll let you know if I hear any news about Thatch, okay?”
“Thank you,” you whispered, trying your best to sound normal.
The door opened and with a soft click of the door handle, he was gone.
You hadn’t meant to burn him, but you couldn’t let him know that. Your powers had been a little haywire recently. You were overloaded on stress and high emotions, and though you had thought you had gotten that mostly under control, it seemed that your powers sometimes had a mind of their own.
You’d be more concerned about it, but you were so damn tired that you fell asleep before you had time to think too hard.
You weren’t sure how long you were asleep, but you woke again to Ace’s voice, jostling you awake.
“Y/N,” he whispered, shaking you lightly. “Thatch is back.”
You sat up immediately, looking around the room. The sudden motion made Jinx hiss and bolt away from you, but you didn’t care. At least she was acting normal again.
“Where?” you asked.
“Out on the deck.”
You jumped up, ignoring the queasy feeling in your gut, and took off towards the deck. As you emerged, the setting sun illuminated the ship in a golden glow. You scanned the ship, desperately searching for him. He was here, somewhere. He had to be.
And then you found him, his pompadour hair making him stand out from the crowd.
“Thatch!” You screamed, running towards him.
His eyes moved over to you and he broke out into a massive grin, holding his arms open to catch you.
You slammed into him with such force, the two of you almost fell to the ground. But he kept you steady, like he always did. You did your best to keep the tears out of your eyes, but you were so relieved that he was okay.
“I told you I’d be back,” he said, rubbing your back.
“You’re late,” you sobbed into his chest. “You promised two weeks.”
“Will you forgive me?”
You pulled away from him, wiping the tears from your eyes. “I guess I can this time. Just don’t do it again.”
He smiled and gave you a nod. “Yes ma’am. You have my word.”
You had been so happy to see him, you hadn’t realized he had come back with a prize.
“You found a devil fruit?” you asked, looking at it skeptically.
“I did!” Thatch grinned, holding it out for you to see. “Take a look!”
You took the fruit from him and examined it. It was a small purple fruit that looked relatively unimpressive. There was no real indication of what it did exactly. But still, finding a devil fruit was a great feat, even on the Grand Line.
“What are you going to do with it?” you asked, still checking it over for any indication of what it could be.
“Not sure yet,” Thatch admitted. “I’m not sure I want to lose my ability to swim, especially if it’s a lame power. I might just sell it.”
You nodded. “There’s no good way to tell what it does, really. Probably better selling it than taking a risk for a lame power.”
“Pretty cool though, huh?!” He stood proud and tall.
“You’ve got color again!” Marco called, walking over to the two of you. “She was sick with worry, you know.”
Thatch laughed and pulled you in for another hug. “It was definitely a challenge. You were right, we were better off taking a few members from Division Two. But we made it work.”
“I knew you would,” you said, giving him a tight squeeze. “I’m glad you’re safe.”
“Alright,” he said, pulling away from you and addressing the crowd. “Let’s eat!”
He took his devil fruit back from you and headed for the kitchen. Your appetite was back now that your cook was back. All felt right with the world.
“You look better,” Ace said, grabbing your hand with his own.
“I feel better,” you admitted. “God, I was so nervous. It feels so silly looking back on it.”
Ace pulled you in, dropping a sweet kiss on your lips that tasted like cinnamon.
You pulled away from him, grinning giddily. “Did the commanders do Welcome Back shots?”
Ace gave a nervous laugh. “Maybe two or three,” he admitted. “You weren’t the only one who was nervous today.”
That was a little bit of a relief. Everyone else had kept such cool demeanors, you were worried you had been overreacting. But everyone had been nervous, they were all just better at hiding it. But now the anxiety that had covered the ship was nothing but a fading memory.
“Let's go eat,” you said, pulling him along with you. You were excited to finally have food that agreed with your stomach again, and finally felt like you could eat in peace.

═══════════════
the chatter in the bustling dining hall died down as he walked further and further away from the crowd and towards the sect gates.
past the open gates, he notices the older man with greying hair standing serenely, looking out at the nightscape and the village that surrounded the base of the mountain down below.
sa-hyung
when did that guy grow so old? he knew the sect leader was getting on in years but, looking at the crow’s feet crinkling from the smile his sa-hyung gave him, it’s just hard not to get sentimental, you know?
are you going to see them? the sect leader asks, a teasing, knowing tone in his voice. like he was aware of something chung myung wasn’t. it was a little annoying, but this was nothing he wasn’t used to at this point.
chung myung grunts, not really wanting to answer the sect leader’s questions. truthfully, it was a habit everyone around him knew about. no one ever asked him about his relationship with that person out-right though, they were smarter then that, and were rather happy to stay curious.
tomorrow's mission won’t be like any other. the sect leader muses, looking out again into the distance.
you should tell them.
chung myung looks at the sect leader incredulously, like the man had grown a second head and was speaking unhinged gibberish.
about what?
you know exactly what i’m talking about chung myung. i know you’re not daft. a deep belly-chuckle came from the good-natured sect leader, even as old men, he still wanted to tease the younger one.
chung myung stays silent. he would rather not confront the matters of his heart tonight. he will in due time, just not now. it was better for the both of them — that person, and himself.
the sect leader chuckles again at the other’s unusually quiet demeanor, turning to go back into the bustling dining hall.
it seems i’ve held you back long enough, run along and come back on time.
the younger man clicks his tongue, scratching his neck and looking away in embarrassment, he felt too seen by the elder then — but he still promised to return before morning. tomorrow was an important day for the sect and the world as a whole, after all.
at the base of the mountain was a forested path leading to a thriving town under mount hua’s protection, he walks past the crowds of villagers and noisy night-market vendors, further and further away until it was just the serene moon of méiyuè accompanying him to where he had promised he would be.
sure enough, right along the dirt path was the familiar shadow of the run down hut, almost shed, that person had taken to calling their home these past few years.
he thought about the day they left the sect. he remembers chasing after them to the gates, hoping he could get them to stay. he didn’t understand why they left back then, even now, he still couldn’t get their reasons.
how could you leave the home you’ve lived in all your life like this? he shouts at them in confusion and anger, maybe with a little sadness laced in it too.
their back looked small. tired. the weight of their debilitating condition heavy on their minds. there is no cure for a broken qi core, after all. it’s like taking the eyes of an artist away or a musician’s hearing. when a murim warrior can no longer use their qi, what were they to do? if their condition hits rock bottom, they might not even have control over their own bodies, or even their consciousness. friends become foes, the living and dead are made equal in their skewed judgement, what if...
a chill ran down their spine at the thought of that scenario. no, they’d make sure such a tragedy can never befall on any innocent being. that’s why they were leaving the sect. for the safety of their sect brothers and sisters, and mostly for their own peace of mind.
why won’t you answer me, damn it!
chung myung’s calls were edging on desperation. he’d never been one to do well in the face of change. he was happy with the way things were, so why weren’t they? what went wrong? why did they want to leave?
so what if you can’t fight anymore? it doesn’t mean you can’t live here, everybody loves you so much and they can all take care of you!
besides, he was here too.
wasn’t he?
there was a long silence. the cool autumn winds danced past the sect gates. surrounding the two were large, towering plum blossom tress now donned in a lovely shade of caramel, with it’s leaves shaking free from the branches it spent a lifetime on — fluttering along with where the breeze led them and falling gracefully at their feet.
ever since their qi core broke, they’ve mostly kept to themselves. not really going anywhere outside their room or talking to other sect members. other then chung myung, of course. he was clingy, nosy and annoying. well, it was hard to shake him off in general.
if they were skipping meals, he’d break in through their window with a table of food. if they weren’t getting out of bed, he’d carry them out to join him in slacking off on daily duties. if they were beginning to spiral into the loop of numbed despair, he would barge in with something for them to do — housekeeping, meeting with merchants, archiving records, anything that kept them on their feet or distracted them enough.
it didn’t really make the feeling go away, but chung myung tries, and that was all that mattered to them.
but they had to go.
because they loved the people who lived here, they have to leave this home behind, so no one will ever suffer the chance of getting hurt by their hands.
because they loved him that they hope he would never have to go through the inevitable task of taking their life, when they are no longer themselves.
i should get going.
they grinned at him, honestly feeling a little silly about getting caught up in their emotions and becoming so sentimental at that moment. they were just moving out to live in the forest around the town outskirts. and it’s not like chung myung couldn’t come down the mountain to see them whenever he wanted either.
chung myung too, grew embarrassed. was he crazy? why did he act like they were going off to some faraway place? there were still within reach, there were still near mount hua. he could see them whenever.
tch. go off already.
he shoos them, flicking his hand at them in annoyance. wanting to hide his heated face from their prying eyes.
he hears them laugh for the first time in a while, he had been missing it lately, how could he have forgotten how sweet it sounded? they turn on their heel, heart lighter from before, it was going to be alright. they would be fine. chung myung will be fine. the sun will still rise on the east, and the seasons will change, the world will move on and so will they.
i’ll be going for real now, bye-bye chung myung. come see me tomorrow, okay?
nah, i don’t feel like it.
please?
he sighs.
i’ll go if i can slip past the sect elders.
you say it like you want them to catch you, i guess you really don’t want to visit me. how upsetting...
ugh. fine, i’ll see you in your stupid new house.
how sweet of you chung myung! look at how grown-up you’ve become!
you little—!
they laughed loudly as they ran down the mountain before chung myung tried to catch them in a chokehold. he doesn’t even bother chasing after them, but he does look on at where the ran off to. their hair had been cut shorter then it usually was, and the tie wasn’t able to hold back the lose few strands that fluttered around their face. they looked younger, lighter, like a kid going on a trip away from home. if they were that happy, he has to be happy for them too, shouldn’t he?
it’s been more then fifty years since then.
he walks into the humble abode, they were sitting against the windows, a book in one hand and the other nursing a cup of tea. they’ve aged, he realised. their once battle-worn face had gone soft, the groves around their eyes had grown deeper over time. skin that was once full and youthful had grown loose around the bones. their hair that had always been so well-taken care of no matter what was now thinner, a little dry and coarse. he picks up the brush lying on the dresser nearby, and walks over to where they were sitting.
with a confidence that seemed to have done this a hundred times, he gathers their long hair and wraps a thin white ribbon around it, looping it over here and there. when he was done, he leans back to look at his work, it wasn’t that good, but it wasn’t the worst either. he wanted to braid the ribbon into their hair but he gave up halfway and settled with a low one instead.
as he sets down the brush, they sweep the half-braided hair over their shoulder to look at his handiwork, fingers playing with the ends of the ribbon.
do you like it?
they look up at him, eyes searching his face, a look of unfamiliarity in their gaze. taking a moment longer before a small smile finally cracks on their face.
chung myung...!
they call out his name, turning to face him fully. they remembered this stranger in their house, and look at how he hadn’t aged a day.
chung myung smiles back sadly. it wasn’t fair how he was the only one whose time had seemed to stop, and theirs had kept moving on, the age taking their memories away at every turn. he just saw them yesterday and they’ve already had trouble remembering him again. they’ve already lost so much, it just wasn’t fair.
i made tea. you should have some, training must have been hard on you.
they smooth out the frown on his brow, tenderly rubbing circles on his cheek with their thumb. humming an unnamed melody as they did so.
he looks over at the said pot of tea. it had already gone cold, probably even bitter from how long the leaves must have sat in the water. he takes a cup anyways, and empties it out, not even leaving a single drop behind.
they giggle in amusement, wondering out loud if he was that thirsty.
hm... the tea you made is really... rich in flavour. thank you for letting me have all of it. i really needed that.
he lies while choosing his words carefully, setting down his cup and pushing the tea set away, he ponders for a moment, and picks them up in his arms, carrying them over to their bed.
what about my book?
you can read that later.
they watch as he sets them down on their bed, kicking off his shoes and climbing in right after. he sighs as his head plops down on their lap, making himself comfortable.
their hands find their way into his thick, dark locks of hair — fingers gingerly undoing the ribbon, watching in quiet fascination as chung myung's abundant tresses came cascading down their legs and flowing over the edge of the bed.
he hums, almost purrs as they thread through the troublesome kinks and knots in his curls, scratching his scalp as they worked through it. his tense body grows softer at their touch, leaning into their hand, wishing that those soft palms would lay on his head forever.
but alas, the night wore off and the distant bustle of the village nightlife had faded into the gentle symphony of the nocturnal critters for quite some time now. he knows he had to get up and return to the mountains, but how could he? the heart wants what it wants, and what it wanted was to stay by their side until the last moment. but he had also promised his sa-hyung he would be back on time.
a long drawn-out sigh was passed in the silence that lay between the two of them. they gaze down at chung myung’s face, again scrunched into a frown.
you frown so much.
the pads of their fingers ghosted over his brows, softly smoothing out the hard creases on his face. he kept his eyes closed. if he opened them, he knew that familiar face would be looking over his, and if he looked at that face, he would look into their eyes, and if he looked at them long enough, he would never want to leave this place. hell, he might not even bother to go with the sect tomorrow.
tomorrow, most of the elders and older disciples will be leaving to subjugate the demonic cult. i’ll be going with them.
he pauses. waiting for them to tell him to stay.
they don’t.
i’ll have to leave soon.
silence.
i’ll come back.
again, he was met with no answer.
you have to take care of yourself.
a beat, and then — a barely audible hum of acknowledgement graces his ears.
chung myung sits up, pulling them into a tight hug, it was really out-of-character of him but something in him was telling him to do it anyways. burying his face deeper into the dip of their neck, he felt his anxiety pour out of his lips.
you better be here when i come back. don’t take this as a chance to go somewhere i can’t find you. i have something i have to tell you so, wait for me here. please?
they rub soothing circles on his back, hugging him back with as much strength their aging body could muster. resting their chin daintily on his shoulder, they revel in the rare burst of affection the man was showing tonight.
hm. you worry too much.
they giggle for a bit.
where else would i be if not here? this is my home, isn’t it?
yeah, but...
if you’re still worried about that... well, i won’t try anything anymore. i promise.
really?
yes. really.
chung myung loosens his grip and finally lets go of his hold on them. coughing awkwardly, he moves them off his lap. slowly, he gets up, puts on his shoes and puts himself together. he turns on his heel, heading for the entryway. they followed after him, their feet shuffling against the floor trying to keep up.
it was drizzling outside.
there was a sudden warmth enveloping him from behind. it took him a moment to register their arms around his waist, face buried against his back. he barely held back his smile as he takes ahold of their hands, once again turning to face them. it seems that saying their goodbyes was a lot harder today, for him and for them too.
goodnight, chung myung.
you should go to bed soon.
he stays at his spot, watching them slide their door shut, listening as the movements in the shed ceased into soft breaths that eventually evened out. he waits a while longer and finally found the strength to return to his own home.
═══════════════
morning rolled around rather quickly. the streets were lined with throngs of civilians on each side of the road making way for the farewell procession of the would-be heroes. vibrant pink petals were cast into the air as the elders of the sect led the disciples onwards.
from the corner of his eye he catches a white ribbon flowing in the wind, but when he swings his head to look, there was no one there. was he just seeing things? his heart drops a little, he was hoping to see them before he —
look up.
his gaze meets theirs, a gleeful glint in their eyes, all perched up in the trees. he wonders what they were clasping in their hands, held up to their mouth in what looked like a kiss. though he didn’t have to for long. as he passed by under them, he felt a flutter of white plum blossoms raining down on him, most of it falling off him except for a lone petal that stuck on his lower lip. he picks up the petal in between his fingers, feeling the corner of his lip crook up in amusement.
he should ask them about that stunt they pulled when he comes back.
and he should probably also tell them how pretty they were with that white ribbon he gave them, all braided into their hair, when he came back from this.

finally, it was over.
cheon-ma has finally been defeated.
all at the cost of so many lives. all taken too soon, too cruelly and all for what? who was going to remember the names of those that died here today? who would mourn for these lives? chung myung couldn’t think of an answer to that.
his body grows limp and he collapses on top of the mountain of corpses. he’s lost too much blood, probably from losing his whole left arm.
to be born alone and to die alone like a common mutt, what a life he had lived as the thirteenth disciple of the great mount hua sect.
all that was left for him to do, as his consciousness walked on the thin line between life and death, was to wallow in his regrets. he could see his memories flicker before his eyes. was this what people talk about seeing when your life is drawing to a close? all that he has done so far, had led to this sorry end?
if only he had been more diligent in training.
if only he had been just a little stronger then he was now.
if only he could have saved a life, any life. a single innocent life spared from the cold clutches of an unjust death.
ah.
and one more thing.
he wanted to apologize to them, for breaking his promise. he hoped they would curse him out a little, because at least that meant they thought of him. he hopes they wouldn’t get too lonely and join them all too soon.
he feels his senses grow numb.

it’s been a few years since chung myung had somehow traversed through time and had woken up a hundred years into the future from when he had died on that mountain of corpses.
he’d kept himself busy with building the now fallen and derelict sect, back into the glory it once had.
this new body of his, it was going to turn twenty-two soon. in his downtime, he’d slipped away from the sect and had gone down the mountain to the town as he usually did.
though it was a little different today. he finds his feet taking him down the almost familiar path out of the town and on an overgrown grass patch where a dirt path once lay. and sure enough, he could see the familiar shadow of a house, almost shed standing in the distance.
time had worked it’s damage on the structure.
he peers in from the broken-in door to see the place left to it’s bare bones. whatever furniture or item had all been looted and taken. in the middle of the room was a mess of broken wood, remnants of when the roof caved in.
chung myung walks into the dilapidated room, looking around for anything that could have survived the past hundred years of wear and tear. anything that could remind him of them.
nothing. there was really nothing left.
a breeze came in from a window, and the corner of his eye catches a fluttering movement. he swings his head and there, on the window sills, was a ribbon, turned light brown from the layers of dust and dirt, it’s once long silky edges now choppy and frayed.
hands shaky, he unties the ribbon from the window, holding it carefully, as though it would fall apart in his grasp. he could feel the barely buried feelings of regret crash upon him all over again. he wonders if they had left this behind with the blind hope that he would come back?
he was back, against all odds. he had managed to come home, but, they weren’t here to see it. nobody he used to ever care for was here to see him anymore.
he should leave. before his feelings get the better of him.
he holds his hands to his face, sighing deeply. steeling himself to move on. but when he drops his hands and opens his eyes, he is once again stunned in his tracks. was it really?
there, past the open window and on the clearing right outside looking at him curiously was a face he would know anywhere. a startled squeak leaves them as they realize that their eyes met, trying their best to block his view with the laundry basket they held in their arms. backing off and beginning to scurry away from the scene.
chung myung knows that it was a long shot, an impossible shot into the dark even, but what if they had been reincarnated like he had? it wasn’t out of the question, right? he thinks as his legs swing over the window, jumping down from it and begins to give chase to the one running away from him.
really, what sane person would ever think that they could outrun a martial artist? chung myung caught up so quickly it was honestly laughable. he catches them by the collar, yanking them back and they let out high-pitched yelp in fright.
he could barely hold back his laugh as he looks down at their face, eyes screwed shut and lips pursed in anxiety.
steadying them on their feet, he turns them to face him. they look different from all those years ago, but his soul knows. it knows better then anyone that this is them, a different face, a different voice and maybe even another name but all of that cannot trick his soul from knowing who they were.
he searches their face, there was no look of recognition. no matter, they could start over, he couldn’t let this chance slip past him like it had back then. he would make things right by them, he wouldn’t keep them waiting in vain like he had back then.
chung myung clears his throat, grinning boyishly at them, hands formed together in greeting, bowing his head before he looks back at them.
ah, really sorry about chasing you down like that. my name is chung myung, and i come from mount hua sect in the mountains back there. it’s nice to meet you.
they look at him, up and down, assessing him for a bit. crazy guy. chasing them down like a predator hunting their prey. crazy. batshit insane. who does that? who even does that? but, they would be lying if their heart was swayed by that grin, he was a little cute, and who in the world wouldn’t be swayed by a face like his? not them, that’s for sure.
besides, when they saw him through the window, something about him...
it felt familiar. it’s almost like, they have known each other from long ago. but wasn’t that weird? how could one know a stranger for a lifetime? unless this was what others call a fated encounter? they bite back a gasp.
hello.
a soft, shy smile graces their lips. quietly telling him their name. chung myung couldn’t help the fondness growing in his gaze. truly, it was a miracle sent from the heavens. maybe this time, the two of them would finally work out what they couldn’t last time. maybe this time, they would find the ending they’ve both always wanted.

I Did Everything I Was Supposed To Do (pt.1)
Haechan x male reader
Summary: Finals week turns out to be the final breaking point for y/n, but luckily Haechan is around right when you need him
Warnings: fluff, some angst: homophobia, allusions to panic disorder, stress
Tumblr media
“Fuck. I can’t believe I forgot about the final on Monday. Fuck fuck fuck” Y/n cursed under his breath as he walked as fast as he could toward the entrance to his boyfriend’s place. Y/n had a million things to do the next few days already, and now he had a final to cram for on top of it all. “One thing at a time” he told himself knowing it’s what Hyuck would tell him if they were together right now. He didn’t really listen to this advice of course… especially coming from his own mouth instead of his cute adorable boyfriend.Oh God. I wish he was here so bad. But Haechan was still at the dance studio and would be for the next several hours. That’s why y/n was even entering Haechan’s apartment right now in the first place; Daegal needed to be taken out while Haechan was gone.
He HAD to have his stupid extra long dance rehearsal today of course. On the day where he already had to finish a ton of assignments and now cram for a test. Y/n quickly threw his backpack on the ground and sprinted over to daegal scooping her up before she even knew what was happening. While he waited for Daegal to do her business and walk around a little, y/n got back to planning his study schedule in his head. If I start by studying for the exam… I can trade every 45 minutes from cramming to working on the lab report for my other class. Fuck! That depends on whether the others ever filled in their data. Ok so I’ll save that for the end and work on the PowerPoint instead even though it’s due the longest from now. As long as I cut myself off at around 1:00 am, that should be enough sleep to take the exam at 9:30 the next day. It was going to be a rough night, but y/n decided he’d just have to work away and hope for the best.
Y/N went back inside and scooped his backpack up again to go work in Hyuck’s bedroom. He found the smell of his boyfriend clinging to the room to be extremely comforting and he hoped it would help him stay calm and focused on his work. He opened up his laptop to the lecture notes for the exam and began skimming them for any confusing topics that jumped out at him. What the? I only know like 2 of these concepts?? I’m screwed. Y/N new from plenty of old tests that it would only make things worse if he worried about it now, and feeling himself start to panic, he decided to work on the PowerPoint instead. He figured he should just finish all his other assignments so that he could then spend the entire rest of the night studying.
An hour into working on the PowerPoint y/n’s phone buzzed. He opened it to find a message from one of his lab partners that read “hey y/n I’m really sorry but I’m actually boarding a plane right now so I’m not gonna be able to finish my part of the lab. Maybe you can ask [partner name 2] for her data? I think she got mine down too.”
Y/n: “I’ll ask her.”
Partner 1: “KK.”
“Gotta go, sorry again!”
Partner 2: “Shit. I don’t have her values either y/n. I’m pretty sure that part of the lab was online though, so one of us can just do the lab at home right now.”
“Oh wait actually, I have to take both of my finals on Monday. It’s due Tuesday right? So I won’t have time to do her part. Y/n any chance you can do it?”
Y/n: “ I only have one midterm tomorrow… I guess I can do it if no one else can.”
Partner 2: “Ur the best bro! Tysm <3”
Y/n: …
.
.
Fuck me. How am I supposed to do [p/n 1]’s work for them on top of everything else? Y/n barely had enough time to do all his work as it was. And he had done all of HIS work on the lab already too. He thought he’d just quickly analyze his partner’s data and then turn it in… but no. This is totally unfair. I have more work than either of them, and I’m doing their work for them too on top of it all. Y/n’s eyes grew misty for a second threatening to turn into tears, but y/n shook his head hard and the urge to cry went away for now. He had to get back to— wait no. He needed to cook dinner. With no Hyuck home to cook dinner like usual, he was going to starve if he didn’t make something for himself. Standing up quickly y/n smacked his arm on Hyuck’s dresser skinning it in the process. Great. Now he was bleeding. And it had gotten on his white shirt too. Except it wasn’t his shirt, it was his boyfriend’s shirt that he had borrowed. Y/n was this close to screaming in frustration, but stripped off the shirt quickly and made his way to the bathroom to clean the spot before it stained. And of course, he needed to throw it in the washer if he really didn’t want it to stain, and that meant he should really just do all of Haechan’s laundry now. So heart now racing in a slight panic, y/n gathered the laundry and started the cycle as quickly as possible so that he could start on dinner.
Opting for the most time efficient option, y/n grabbed some pasta and left it to boil while he got back to work for a few minutes. There sure was a lot on his mind now between the pasta he was cooking, Daegal (who he suddenly remembered needed to be fed as well), the lab report, the final exam in a day, Haechan’s laundry that still needed to be dried, folded, and put away, and the millions of other things he needed to get done before going home to his family at the end of the week. And the trip home would be another ordeal that required a lot of planning and prep work. Y/n had a lot of problems at home due to his conservative family and their recent discovery that he was dating Haechan. But that’s silly. I shouldn’t worry about that right now. And it’s not like it’s anything new knowing they all disapprove of my “lifestyle choice”. That’s old news, and I need to focus on this. Y/n went back to his multitasking and eventually got Daegal fed, the laundry in the dryer, and got a good portion of the lab done.
At 10:30 y/n finally felt satisfied with the PowerPoint and had finished collecting most of the data his partner was supposed to do. So he went to wash all the dishes he had left out at dinner and put away the leftovers as a quick study break. He smiled at the pasta he’d saved for Haechan knowing it would make his boyfriend’s day to find food ready for him after a long night of dance practice. When he walked back into Hyuck’s bedroom to finish the lab, he noticed several notifications on his phone again.
Mom: Hey you’re coming home on Wednesday right? You’ll be done with finals week by then?
Dad: Hey y/n you better have a gift ready for your mother when you come home on Tuesday. She’s still pretty upset about Haechan, so you should really try to make her feel better.
Bro: Dude mom and dad are pissed cuz dad thought you were coming home Tuesday after your final, and then mom told him you said Wednesday. So he flipped and said you were probably staying longer to fuck Haechan or something
Y/N: I told them both Wednesday. I AM spending Tuesday night at Hyuck’s place. But I just wanted a night to relax before immediately coming home
Don’t tell them that… just say I’m busy or something
Bro: sorry bro, that’s not gonna work. You better come home Tuesday or they’re gonna make the trip absolute hell for you
Y/N: fuck ok fine, I’ll make it work
Y/n was getting more and more stressed by the second. And now he wouldn’t even get any sort of buffer between finals week and seeing his family. And fuck he had that feeling in his head- that feeling of anxiety setting in- making him slightly dizzy and his chest tight. Fuck. Fuck. I’m gonna have a panic attack. I know it’s coming. Should I call Hyuck? He should be on his way home by now anyway right? Ok fuck. Yeah he should call his boyfriend. Maybe he could talk him through it. He prayed he was right and Hyuck would actually answer his phone, and to his relief, Hyuck answered right away.
“y/n! I’m on my way home and practice went pretty well! I think the show is going to be really good this quarter. Have you made dinner yet? And how’s the studying going?” He was so excited to hear his y/n ie’s voice on the phone. “Hyuck.” Y/n felt the lump in his throat form and wasn’t able to get out the rest of your words as he broke into tears. “Y/n? What’s wrong love? Are you ok?” No words came out of y/n as he began to hyperventilate. Haechan could hear y/n’s shallow breathing and put together that he must be having a panic attack. He assured y/n he’d be there in the next ten minutes and stayed on the phone with him until he rushed through the door exactly ten minutes later, Immediately making his way over to y/n huddled in the corner of his bed crying and hyperventilating. From past experience he knew y:n liked him to stay close until he was able to calm down and talk.
Haechan slowly climbed into the bed, sliding his body between your back and the bed frame, wrapping his arms around you in a comforting bear hug. “I’ve got you y/n. I’ve got you, and I’m not going anywhere.” Y/n began shaking in Haechan’s arms unable to fully process what was happening with his mind completely taken over by panic at this point. Haechan rested his chin on y/n’s soft hair and hummed a song. Y/n did his best to focus on the light vibrations on his head from Haechan’s tune. “I’ll just talk about my day a little too ok y/n? Squeeze my hand if you’d like that.” Y/n’s eyes remained squeezed tight, and his body was still trembling, but he gives Haechan’s hand a light squeeze back. “Ok love. Let’s see… I saw Jungwoo today! I know he’s your favorite dance major right? He was really cool to watch, you were right! He might even be more charismatic than me” he teased. Y/n didn’t laugh out loud or acknowledge him, but he appreciated Hyuck trying to lighten the mood. “I spent most of the night working on my duet with Mark though. They have us doing this really acrobatic hiphop song and it’s a lot of work. I’ve memorized all the footwork though. It was kind of funny watching Mark struggle with it more than me for once honestly. Next time you should tag along and watch. When it’s not finals week of course!” He adds, giving a small pec to your forehead.
“Is that why you’re stressed by the way? Finals?” He doesn’t really expect y/n to give any responses yet. But much to his surprise you shake your head in response. “No. More.” Y/n says quietly, starting to breath a little more evenly. “What else baby? What’s stressing you out.”
“Everything!” Y/n exclaims. “So much. TOO much” y/n squeaks out bursting into more tears. Haechan gently shushes you and squeezes his arms tighter around your body and begins planting little kisses all over your head to comfort you. “It’s ok y/n. It’s ok.” Hyuck can feel y/n’s body body relax a tiny bit despite his sobs. Y/n spins around melting into Haechan and burying his face in his chest
To be continued…

Denki Kaminari with an online best friend
Tumblr media
Denki x American! reader
Online friends + maybe romantic-ish
Note, I have no idea how to write in the grammar of someone learning English so I’m just avoiding contractions and using a bit of chat gtp to make the sentence to be a little more incorrect lol.
Tumblr media
He initially met you while playing a FPS at 3am
The game between you and both was mostly silent aside from some English and Japanese cursing, Denki understood some what you said
You however; did not understand him, but assumed he was expressing the same frustration and wasn’t just getting upset at you
After your first game was played, he had sent you a few emojis and a little english
The game you had been playing along side some random from Japan had gone surprisingly well. It was such a bad game for the loser you wondered if it was because they were absolute garbage or all of a sudden you became a gaming god. As you leaned back in your chair and attempted to fix the knot that formed in your back from hunching, you looked back at your computer screen. There you see a friend and message request.
Kaminarieki
“You are good at playing. Can we play more?”
As you read the message, you decide to respond and pray he wasn’t some 30 year old incel. After all, you were bored, and a bit lonely.
After that first interaction, you would go on to play with him often
However, neither of you talked very often especially after you came to the conclusion you didn’t speak the same language
In the end, there were still some short convos
Kaminari liked these, as he thought you were cool
The fact that UA English classes were more rigorous helped him in talking to you (a hero needed to communicate with a large variety of people)
A couple of months in, he was struggling with his classes exponentially, and no amount of help by his friends would help him,
He then thought it was a good idea to message you and explain that he thought it would be nice to talk and learn through a fluent speaker instead
Kaminarieki
“Can we talk a lot I am learning English I think your cool.”
“I’m down. It’s late now though. I have school is tomorrow okay? Also, the your should be you’re”
Kaminari sends a cute little heart emoji,
“Yes. Thank you.”
For awhile, you’d avoid many abbreviations and some complex Slang
Eventually Kaminari had gotten more advanced and you spoke more casually
After exchanging Instagram and other accounts, instead of mostly talking as you guys played, it started during school and random times of day
The time difference didn’t mean much since the both of you had terrible sleep schedules
(Although, he was a bit more regular due to his hero school)
As you talked to him you obviously found more of his personality and it had become more endearing tbh
He’d most definitely google English pick up lines
Eventually as his friends noticed his behavior and how if he’d planned to play with you he’d decline
Also how he’d be texting more than before (mostly on his Sundays and Monday’s as you’d be awake the longest when he was.)
Lowkey hates the time difference tbh.
Anyway, as his friends noticed him typing away on those two days in particular they’d begun to ask questions about who he was texting
“My friend.” He’d say, looking up from the phone for a second before continuing the text. Mina had begun even more curious than previously.
“Whaaa? Friend? Who?” She asks, leaning over the couch and Kaminari’s shoulder. She sees joke flirty messages that he sends and receives.
He ended up telling them about you and explains that’s why his English grade was getting better
Anywayyy he’s overall super cute with you
Basically just being himself
If you ever wanted to learn Japanese he’d 100% do his best to help you enthusiastically
He tries his best to keep you updated since it’s its hard to talk to you regularly

You are the manager of the daycare (and Sun by extension). Some people think this means you don't care if he gets yelled at.
This assumption is wildly inaccurate, and you are not afraid to professionally threaten correct them.
Tumblr media
You're in the middle of something important.
It's been clinging at your thoughts all day while you tried desperately to ignore it, but at some point it became impossible to deny the truth--technically, it had a higher priority than everything you decided to complete much earlier in the shift.
And unfortunately that leaves you stuck at your desk, staring down hard at the collection of intake forms and spreadsheets. You know it won't take more than half an hour, but that time would be some of the most horrible, boring, downright painful minutes of your life.
Could you push it off until tomorrow? Maybe Monday even?
No, you ultimately decide, the paperwork needed to be done. There was no point to pushing it back again--it still needed to be forwarded to the document filing team, then to human resources, and that would only end up making your job harder in the end since only then could you finalize everything.
By the time that you'd actually relegated yourself to sitting down and getting the work done, the day was nearly over with--parents were starting to come in and pick up their children.
Some were kids of employees that worked at the Pizzaplex itself; childcare cost was heavily discounted for workers of any department, so it was extremely convenient for many who simply didn't have any other options. They were also some of the sweetest kids you'd ever met, if only because they were very familiar with the daycare and its rules. Other children were simply dropped off because the guardians wanted some time to enjoy the facility themselves for a few hours or so. The process for checking a child out was the same regardless, and typically very painless after a parent knew to expect the process.
Normally you don't need to worry about assisting with child pickups. You had several employees that were expected to make sure the process was quick and smooth, though there was only two on the clock right now--a couple call-outs had left you with less people than you'd like on such a busy day, but the two working today were some of your best and longest-term employees. They handled plenty of crazier days, so you trusted them to keep things together when office work took precedence over smaller tasks that kept you visible and available even for the kids themselves.
So, one can imagine your utter surprise when the sound of disdained yelling suddenly echoes through the daycare. Not just a little yelling either; it's shrill, with enough intensity that it reaches all the way to your back office and that... that takes a lot. Enough that it immediately tugs at your instincts to investigate.
The words aren't clear enough to make out, so you push yourself away from the desk and leave the office, then out of the hallway into the main daycare area.
It doesn't take more than a breath of time to realize who is making all the noise--a parent. They're standing near the front of the daycare, but not where they're supposed to be.
The check-out desk was located in the small room overlooking the daycare's main play area, separated by plexiglass and rope netting. Not only was it supposed to be an easier way to get kids comfortable in being away from their parents (they literally arrive in the daycare by way of a slide into a ball pit), but it also served as a form of security--nobody could enter the daycare without proper credentials, and there was always someone posted up there to greet anyone coming to drop off or pick up their child.
But this one? Somehow, this one came through an employee-only entrance. That audacity alone would make your blood boil, but the fact that you recognized the woman only made it worse.
Her shrill screaming filled the room with venom while she clutched her son against her hip, as if trying to shield him from the poor daycare attendant animatronic who was, as best as he could, diffuse the situation.
It doesn't take long to get an idea of what she's going off about either--the woman is not particularly quiet about it.
"When I leave my son here, I expect that he will be safe!" she hisses, brushing her son's hair as if trying to soothe the child. "And what do I find when I come to pick him up? That he's been manhandled and tossed around like a toy--you're lucky he didn't break a bone!"
The young boy doesn't look injured, and if anything he seems more scared of his mother.
Travis, you recall his name--a rather quiet boy, didn't always like to play with other kids. His mother, Sarah, worked in one of the back offices as a programmer. Her hours were always odd, so his father tended to be the one to drop the boy off. Now you understand why.
The thing was, Travis really liked playing with Sun. Since he was shy, the daytime bot often took it upon himself to try and encourage the boy to take part in craftime or storytime--he'd recently been able to get him to play in the ball pit with the other kids his age.
"This kind of behavior is completely inexcusable," she finally seethes, a look of one-note rage in her eyes that seemed to burn the longer she looks at the animatronic. "I will make sure to put in a complaint about this--"
"I-I am sorry that you think your son was h-harmed, Miss Martin. I assure you that h-he was just playing with the other kids." Sun lifts his hands up in a passive way, trying desperately to keep her from screaming more. People were starting to stare at the unfolding scene, and it was quickly coming undone at the seams. "I am incapable of doing anything that w-would put any little superstars in danger!"
Sarah's eyes gleam with poison as she seems to catch her claws on a hook. "Oh, so you're saying you're defecting from your programing?"
"N-no! Not at all! My programming is clean as a whistle, I have it debugged at r-regular intervals!"
"I work in the programming department," she says, voice going quiet. "With the glamrock series code. Directly down the hall from the man who makes decisions about every machine in this facility. All it would take is for me to walk right down to his office and let him know that the daycare is turning into a severe liability for the company." You are already hurrying over, not missing the way Sunny's fists start to clench tight, tight enough for his joints to squeal under the pressure as he restrains himself. He's trying so hard to keep his professionalism under the abuse--and Sarah seems to know exactly what to say.
"Your model is old. Your code is old. It's a shoddy piece of work that should be scrapped and redone, I've been telling them that for months now. They'd be better of scrapping you so we can finally have room for another glamrock and-"
You waste no time in immediately stepping directly into the line of fire, forcing yourself into the space between Sun and Sarah who has, until that moment, been encroaching closer and closer into his personal space. Was she trying to set him off? To see how far he would take the abuse before saying something wrong?
Probably. You wouldn't put it past a cruel woman like her at this point.
"What seems to be the problem here?" you say, fake smile wide and tone forcibly friendly. "I sure heard you all the way from my office!"
"Oh no dear, don't worry, it's nothing you need to concern yourself about," the woman says, waving her hand at you as if expecting her words to be like an order. "Though you can be a dear and go fetch the manager?"
You don't move, but clench your jaw tight and force the words through your teeth, "I happen to be the manager of the daycare, so if there is an issue or complaint, then I need to know about it! So please," the fake smile drops and you stare at her hard. "What is the problem here?"
Sarah's expression twitches with annoyance, but she tries to immediately save face by gesturing to her son and acting as if she was the one getting yelled at.
"Well, I didn't want to make a big deal of it, but my son has been injured because of your animatronic!"
You glance over at Travis. The poor kid is no older than eight, and he's trying to stare down at his shoes, his face flushed red with embarrassment and shame.
"Hey, little buddy," you kneel down to be closer to eye-level with him. "Did something happen to get you hurt?"
He shakes his head before his mother can try to interject. When you try to ask him another question she finally puts a hand between his gaze and yours, breaking it and forcing you to look back at her.
"That thing is running on severely old, broken code," she says, tone low and voice slow, as if trying to communicate an unspoken threat. "It's only a matter of time before something happens. Before someone gets hurt. I don't understand why they haven't just decommissioned the abhorrent thing. Doesn't even look as cute as the glamrocks."
Oh. So she's chosen death?
No. Breathe. Slowly. Remember how things work. Remember to play it smart. She wants you to get angry, needs to get a response out of you just so she can use it to cry to upper management.
Be smart about this. Be smart and unyielding. It takes every ounce of restraint not to deck the woman in the nose right there--but you at least have an upper hand.
"Who is your direct manager?"
"Huh?"
You stare at her expectantly, letting the silence fill the room before finally clarifying and repeating yourself. "Who. Is. Your. Direct. Manager?"
"I-I don't know how that's relevant to the current problem we're trying to solve."
"Well," you finally say, pulling out your company-assigned mini pad and scrolling through the employee database. "I need to get into contact with them about your behavior. Obviously you've forgotten several very important policies and I want to make sure you're educated on them as need be."
"Wh-what policies?" Sarah demands. "I haven't broken anything--that thing is what we're talking about right now."
You shake your head, proud of the even tone to your voice even though you want nothing more than to scream and yell at her in kind.
"First, you enter the daycare using an unapproved door-"
"I am an employee for the company-!"
"-and even employees are not allowed to use that door. It is for daycare attendants and handlers only. It is an active security measure to ensure the safety of little superstars like your son, whom you obviously seem to care for the safety of, right?"
She is silent, sputtering, taken aback by your confidence or simple knowledge of how to play the system correctly.
"Second, I have you on record actively harassing a coworker. Not only are you specifically not using his preferred pronouns, you are also belittling and demeaning him and his ability to do his job correctly. A job which I will remind you is difficult and stressful and comes with a wide variety of nuance."
You take the opportunity to step forward. Not too far, just a little idle step. Enough to take control and apply pressure to the situation.
"I'm sorry that you can't seem to understand the subtlety of how kids tend to play around Travis' age, and I'm sorry that you don't seem to care about the fact that he has been making very good progress in getting to know the other kids--specifically because of Sun's hard work with him."
Another small, calculated step. Sarah retreats from how she's looming forward, and you can see the tension in her jaw.
"Harassing a coworker? I haven't said anything to-"
"Sun? You mean one of my employees? The very one I heard you screaming at?" You shrug, managing to seem coldly nonchalant with surprising ease--maybe it's the adrenaline coursing through your veins. Between the heat of your words, you feel one of Sun's hand gently grabbing the back of your shirt. Not tugging, just holding on. "I mean, if you like we can go into my office and I can pull the cameras--if I misunderstood something then surely we can go over the recording and find out where I'm not getting that right."
That's the final push. Sarah knows she can't win the argument or force you to back down from a legitimate, honest-to-god threat. Despite being in a different department, technically you are still above her; you already know her manager. Marcus was a pretty easy-going guy that had a lot of sympathy for the animatronics, so it wouldn't take much for him to write her up from your word alone.
"I... well, maybe I just misunderstood," the woman finally says, her smile cold and not reaching her eyes. "No need to make this a big deal or anything! I will make sure to use the right door next time, my mistake."
Your mouth moves faster than your brain can stop them--it's edging on the line of being appropriate for someone of your position, but you need to make sure this woman understands that you are willing to hold your ground.
"Please do, because if I hear of something like this happening again? I will ban you outright from the daycare facility."
Her eyes widen and she opens her mouth as if to say something, but she's already lost. You have the authority to decline service to anyone, and at least with this situation you were grateful to have that power.
Sarah hurries out of the room without another word. You feel bad for Travis--the kid really didn't deserve to be in the middle of all that--but he offers some assurance by turning around to try and wave before the two of them disappear beyond the door.
You barely get a chance to let out a held breath before a pair of hurried footsteps approach you.
"Is everything okay?" one of the attendants ask. She's normally so soft spoken, but you can hear the genuine concern leaking through the words. "I knew as soon as I saw Sarah things would be bad--she always tries to find something to yell about when she picks Travis up."
"Yeah," the other worker echoes, then turns to speak to Sun. "I am so sorry you ended up with her, Sunny. If I knew she had used the door down here I would have immediately left the intake room."
The two of them started to crowd around you and Sun a bit more than you liked. Jesus, how was Sun even doing?
"We're okay, it's fine just-" another sigh spills from your lips, exhaustion taking the space where adrenaline had kept you so still and composed. "You two go make sure the other kids are okay? That was a lot of screaming for them to hear."
With only a little more consoling they finally move away to check on the few kids still waiting to get picked up. It leaves you and Sun alone at least, a vague amount of privacy.
You turn around, not sure what to expect from the animatronic--but it's a surprise all the same to find him staring at you with wide, as if unbelieving eyes. There's a sense of tension hidden somewhere in his expression, but its overshadowed by something else. Something hard to read.
"... Are you okay, Sunny?" you finally ask in a soft, gentle voice. He looks down, peering at the multicolored carpet silently. All it takes is the soft touch of your hand gently touching the side of his faceplate to make him twitch, listening but still not looking at you. "Don't you worry about anything, okay? She's just a cruel nobody who likes making other people feel bad. I will make sure she's not allowed anywhere beyond the intake room and make a recommendation that Travis' dad be the only one who can pick him up."
He is still silent, but you're relieved to see his body loosen. All that tension, all that heartache and anger, almost all gone in an instant.
"Sunny...?"
After a moment, the animatronic finally tilts his face into your touch. Before you can ask or say anything else, however, he sweeps you into his arms in a tight hug. So tight in fact that he begins to spin you around in a circle, stopping only when he's done sputtering.
"You didn't have to do all that for little ol' me! Someone so busybusy like you shouldn't need to deal with parents at all--you're so silly, starlight!"
Despite the fact that his words try to sound casual, you saw every sign in the book that Sun had barely been taking the woman's verbal abuse. You can't imagine what would have happened if you hadn't shown up--would he have snapped? Would she have threatened something worse?
"Oh goodness please put me down Sunny-" you lean into his arms as the room slowly stops spinning around you. Then, when you collect yourself, you offer him a warm and genuine smile. "Sunshine, you are one of my employees, and nobody deserves to be talked down to like that at all. It's not fair for her to treat you like that-" you catch a look of worry somewhere in his eyes, and so you quickly add, "-and I will never let you be decommissioned. There isn't anything wrong with you, so don't let her empty threats put a rain cloud over you."
It's only in that moment that you realize how tightly his hands are grasping at your uniform.
"... you... promise?"
He's more scared of that then he ever lets on.
"I promise," you say with complete confidence. "Nobody will ever hurt you on my watch, Sun. You and Moon both. They'll have to go through my stubborn ass first--and I actually memorized most of the employee handbook anyway."
"Starlight!" he says, sounding shocked.
"Wh-what?"
"Language."
You chuckle, the sound rumbling through your chest as you bring a hand over your face. You'll have to touch base with Sun again once the other kids and employees have left for the night, but at least he's doing better.
And you're still sending a message to Marcus about her--she'll be lucky if she doesn't get a huge write-up for that outburst.

I know Rick is like master of creating and ignoring plot holes but like I had serious questions about the botl timeline so I sat down and tried to map it out:
Percy's orientation is on "Monday morning, the first week of June." This is the day he arrives at camp, and the day of Grover's hearing where the council gives him one more week to find Pan. This is probably also the longest day ever??? Percy goes to orientation, takes a taxi to camp, and then the council meeting, cabin inspection, the forges, canoeing, and sword practice all before dinner? I've worked at summer camp that's insane. That night, he gets his first IM about Nico.
Day 2, they have the conversation about the labyrinth, Percy goes to see Blackjack, and they have the war game where Percy and Annabeth find the labyrinth entrance.
Chiron sends them to get sleep. In the morning, they discuss the quest and Annabeth gets her prophecy. They agree to enter the labyrinth tomorrow. Percy gets his second Nico IM that night.
Day 4 they enter the labyrinth. This is at least 3 days into Grover's week already, depending on when the council chooses to start counting from.
At the ranch, Grover sees on TV that "It's June thirteenth. Seven days since we left camp." (This is ten days since the first day of the book, so it must have started on the third of June.) They then go to see Hephaestus and get sent to Mount St Helens, splitting up on the way but still traveling through the labyrinth (so while they feel like it's only a few hours, it's probably closer to a full day).
Percy blows up Mount St Helens and lands himself on Calypso's island, where he stays to recover until Hephaestus comes to visit. He then sails back to camp.
Walking into his funeral, Percy has been gone for "two weeks," which isn't necessarily an exact time but since that's what we're given we'll assume another 14 days, so my guess would be that it's around June 28th now?
They spend that day on camp, and leave for NYC in the morning (June 29th) to get Rachel, stopping to talk to Percy's mom on the way. They reenter the labyrinth, and enter Antaeus' gladiator arena, where they are briefly held up before escaping and making camp for the night.
In the morning, they make it to Deadalus's workshop, where they fight and escape into Colorado Springs. They reenter the labyrinth, stop by San Francisco to see Kronos take over Luke's body, and then go find Grover and Tyson to witness Pan's death in Carlsbad Caverns. They make it back to New York and Blackjack & co pick them up to take them back to camp. Immediately, the Battle of the Labyrinth occurs. Grover lets out the call of panic and Daedalus dies. That night, they hold the funeral for those lost in the battle.
The next day, the council meets to hear Grover's story. Briares leaves for the cyclopes forges, and Nico leaves camp too.
My best guess would be that time moves about twice as fast in the labyrinth, but there's a lot that goes on when they're back in with Rachel--I feel like between Deadalus's workshop and getting back to camp it should be at least a full day? So anyway my guess is that the actual Battle of the Labyrinth happens on like July 1st?
Which I guess fits with "July passed, with fireworks on the beach on the Fourth." But that's like two-three days later, so it seems very very fast to me that they would be prepared with celebratory fireworks? I don't know. But also (again, I've worked at a summer camp) sometimes camp is just like that, and chaos happens and you have to keep going and trying to keep it normal for the campers.
Anyway so technically it works but like it feels awkward to me.

New Fic Incoming
In honor of Lesbian Visibility Week and Episode 2 coming soon, I’ve been working on a fic called Jealous Jester that I was inspired to write after seeing all of the lovey art that’s been going around recently of Pomni being a jealous little shit and put up a preview.
It’s also written as a sorta sequel to a previous fic of mine, Pesky Cartoon Logic, which you can read here if you’d like. Not required, but it’d give you an idea of how I personally write the girls.
I’m aiming to upload Chapter 1 on AO3 by the end of tomorrow, but will probably have the whole thing out by Monday at the latest.
Enjoy ❤️
It’s not a big deal.
The jester repeated this inside her head. Despite the loud nonsensical prattle of the group that went on closely behind her, all Pomni could hear aside from the mantra she made to keep her emotions and breathing in check was a distinct ringing. She didn’t want to stare, but her eyes remained locked on the irksome scene she was witnessing, completely fixated on the two women still embracing each other in what she thought was the longest goodbye ever.
Stop being weird. They’re just hugging.
An uncomfortable tightness grew in her chest, and she clenched her jaw in a half-repressed scowl. If it wasn’t for the fact that the gloves she wore were permanently stuck to her hands, the jester was sure her nails would be digging into her palms from how firmly her fists were curling against her sides.
It’s Ragatha. She’s hopelessly friendly to everyone. Including people who weren’t real.
Even with the reminder, her eye starts to twitch as she watches her girlfriend finally separate herself from the taller woman, only to see their hands still clasped together in between them as they continue to chat. Their words were unintelligible due to being too far away for the jester to hear, not that she was in the right headspace to focus enough on what they were saying anyway. Normally, she relished any chance to see the ragdoll smile and would diligently keep mental notes of everything that made Ragatha genuinely happy. Because Pomni valued her girlfriend’s happiness above all else.
She’s kind. This is just Ragatha being her usual, sweet self. It’s why you love her.
But Pomni did not love this. Not at all. She didn’t know what about their conversation was making Ragatha beam so brilliantly, and she didn’t care. The jester threw this particular mental note in the metaphorical fire. Watched it burn and crumble into ash inside her head. Without meaning to, her frustration added the kindling necessary for the heat to grow and boil inside her gut until it rose along her spine like smoke in a chimney. Pomni was glad she was facing away from the others because there was no way the irritated look on her flushed face could be any more obvious.
Pathetic.
Pomni’s eyes finally fell to the ground out of fear that her heated gaze would soon start burning a hole if she let it linger any longer on the hands linking with Ragatha’s. Hands that she petulantly wished were her own and not the woman who was currently stealing all of her attention.
Getting this jealous over some stupid NPC? This has got to be a new low.

The Get To Know You One
Thanks @schmem14 for the tag on this one!
Last song: The Longest Time - Billy Joel. I've always said if I was ever being proposed to, the person had better incorporate this song because it would markedly improve the odds of success.
Favourite color: I'm unable to split up the magic trio of purple, teal and pink.
Last film/ show: Film was 12 Monkeys (1995), show was an episode of UK Gogglebox from 2023
Sweet/savoury/spicy: Savoury, I think I could easily say goodbye to sweet forever but I'd be sad about spicy.
Relationship status: Single and ready to Pringle! (I just want to be alone with my chips, kthx)
Last thing I googled: 69 hole bubble blaster - no its not a sex toy, it's a bubble gun I saw on a dodgy ad that popped up on a game I was playing on my phone and it turns out Kmart sells it for only $19 and they probs won't scam my credit card if I order it (winning).
Current obsession: Passionfruit gelato from a little local gelateria that I've been visiting with my pal, I know what I said about sweets earlier but I could eat this every damn day. SO TART!
Last book: I've been reading The Star Splitter by @oflights which is fricken magnificent but the last paper-in-my-hand book was a re-read of a classic @dduane Star Trek novel, The Romulan Way. Effing love that book.
Looking forward to: I have a bunch of things, top of the list is a copy of the fanbinding of Nothing But You On My Mind from @sits-bound, I will probably cry when it arrives. My lamp recently died and I'm waiting for my new gorgeous emerald velvet lamp to arrive at the store so I can pick it up (literally sitting in darkness as we speak). My squirrel vibrator, also in transit somewhere right now. The upcoming weekend (I realise it is only Monday). Dune Part Two. A swim tomorrow after work because it's going to be HOT. More Star Splitter! More passionfruit gelato!

You don’t have to fight.  It’s okay.
Seriously.  Fighting isn’t going to make you serious, or a badass, or whatever you’ve decided it means to be a “real man”—and why are people still getting hung up on that, anyway?  You ever met anyone you think is a “real man”?  Is that the guy you dream about growing up to be?  Huh?
Yeah, yeah, kid, I know you’re a big scary adult.  But all you humans, you look like kids to me, because the ones of you that stay around the longest, you don’t manage a tenth of the time I’ve been here, and since you keep beating the ever-living crap outta each other down there, I don’t think I’m going anywhere any time soon, if you get what I mean.
And anyway, you humans get to keep growing up for your whole lives, and that’s pretty amazing.  Except for a few of the amphibious gods, we don’t manage that sort of thing.  The chance to grow up to be someone different tomorrow than you are today, now that’s divine.  Miracles are nothing compared to maturing.
I believe in you.
So yeah, we play games to settle scores.  We talk things out.  We roll dice and we negotiate and we argue and we do everything but fight, because you’re too good for that.  You got that?  You’re too good for that, you constantly growing, constantly changing little spark of eternity.  So c’mon.  Let’s dance it out, or if that’s not conclusive enough, we can play Scrabble to decide who’s right and who’s wrong.  Whatever makes you happy.  Whatever keeps you from bleeding on the street.
This is the way we do things, among the divine.  You don’t have to fight.
I promise, it’s okay.

Hey guys! I wasn't looking forward to writing this.. So, I can't get the next chapter of GOM ready before the anniversary tomorrow. Tax season and the holidays have just been super busy and beyond getting a bit done of TWPT I didn't get much progress done. Not to mention the migraine I recently got & family coming tomorrow to see Lucien 😔 everything has been too much go, I didn't wanna ruin my holidays forcing myself to use my little rest time to write so I dialed back for a while. (going to continue the post under reading line)
It sucks because I really really wanted to do something cool for the anniversary. I mean, a whole year of writing a fanfiction, but the longest one I've ever done? And with so many amazingly supportive readers! Over the year we've gained over a thousand kudos and almost 50k hits, I read every comment and most of the time reply to every one! You guys are amazing and I really wanted to make the anniversary at least a little special. Unfortunately I am going to have to push back the date, but i don't think 2 weeks will be realistic so I'm going to set a loose date for the 11th.
Onto more positive news, I have gotten a desktop which should be able to support much better streaming! I haven't been able to use my avatar or game on stream in a long time but now i should be able to do both of those things!
here's a test i did just to see how the bit rate, recording, and frame drops would go. i used to not even be able to play this one at all on my computer! sorry only one video at a time so you only get the spyro clip, but i tested slime rancher also. i still need to adjust some settings, but this is massive amounts better than my old laptop.
my chromakey also might be a bit strong haha i'll fix it.
Since i can't upload tomorrow, If i'm feeling better i might try to do a mini stream in the morning if i have time before we get our visitor, or maybe really late monday. we'll see.
anywho, TLDR; i can't make a post for the anniversary, at least i dont think i can. i'm planning to try to post in a month, after i've sorted real life things and have got the story sorted how i wanted.
i'm also going to try to stream again once my migraine goes away now that i have a better desktop that can support playing games and streaming together, and of course streaming art, too with my pngtuber.
I'm very sorry but i hope you guys are as excited as i am that the fic is now a year old! Thank you for your patience 💖

Hey Vee, how's "I hope you have the time of my life going? That weird Bad Boys red life fic? but not the knife one? You almost done?"
Oh, I Hope You Have The Time of my Life? That one I was going to write and publish between lim life episodes? The one with the VERY straightforward premise?
Let me fucking tell you.
It was going to be one long chapter. I really wanted it out before episode 7, and I couldn't, so I chopped it in a good place to chop and put out chapter one. 4.3k words
So I'm working on chapter 2 and suddenly there's a lot of DL-SmallEtho talk than I planned and way more going on about Weird Red Life stuff and I just keep working so hard. I decide it's soooo long and i should cut it, i find an obvious spot.
Then I'm at a ropes class and an instructor says something that inspires another smalletho flashback scene that i sketch out in my notebook on my back, holding the notebook aloft, and i keep worrying it's kind of took long to be a flashback and eventually that becomes its own chapter, and that means we're on 4 chapters. (I will only publish them all at once, i need to be able to make changes to ch2 as i finish ch4)
I had a bunch of free time this weekend so I was pushing to get it out monday night. I get overwhelmed when I'm working on 10k or more, i can't keep it all in my head, so i put own ch 4 and decided to get chapters 2 and 3 drafted so my head could focus more easily on chapter 4. But now 2 of 3 people (one is not online) in my support squad have said i should add *more* to the smalletho chapter. No one *ever* tells me to add *more* to something, so I'm listening.
Thus I'm going to give up on getting it out tomorrow and just let myself go all out on chapter 3. I'm just going to label the fic as "if you don't like bad boys but want red life smalletho sex, check out ch 3).
All in all........ I'm going to try and stay under 20k????? My longest fic is 17,133 words! And second longest is 11k! So that's very long!
Joel! Won't! Stop! Saying! Things! In! My! Head!!!!!
current word counts:
ch 1 - 4330 words (published)
ch 2 - 4070 words (fairly done)
ch 3 - 3180 words (and adding a whole thing)
ch 4 - 5kish words (it's such a mess idk)
Total: 16580 words and counting
Anyway praise keeps me coming so if anyone wants to see some of chapter 2 of 4 and say nice things, DM me. Seriously, I like DMs.
