Movie Review: Twisters
Released in Summer 1996, Twister, Jan de Bont's follow-up to Speed was a disaster event movie was to storm chasers what Jurassic Park was to paleontologists. Produced by Steven Spielberg, you felt his touch. The movie was better than it should've been, but in the end it was the action that carried it not the characters (although a case could be made that young Philip Seymour Hoffman could've gotten his own movie). The essence of the movie was really conveyed by Ben Stiller's parody at the 1996 MTV Movie Awards ("that was definitely an F4!"). It wasn't that great of a movie that it warranted a sequel, although there was talk for years about it. Now there's a standalone sequel 28 years later opening this week, Twisters.

The film opens with college student Kate (Daisy Edgar-Jones) and her group of classmates doing some storm chasing for an experiment. Avoiding spoilers here, but five years later Kate is now in NYC and her friend who was on that project Javi (Anthony Ramos) pays her a visit to see if she could join him on a new business venture where he has some new state of the art military equipment he wants to apply to storm chasing. Reluctant to return, she does and she joins his team in her native Oklahoma. Once there is an opposing group of storm chasers led by YouTube storm chasing host Tyler (Glen Powell). While in the area, Kate reunites with her mom (Maura Tierney). Oh and - Tyler and Kate seem to be very different but they have more in common than meets the eye.

Edgar-Jones, Powell and Chung on set
What got my attention about this more than anything was director Lee Isaac Chung. His last film Minari (read my review here) was my #1 Movie of 2020. The fact that he was directing this gave me a degree of hope. Sure it is the old school mentality for filmmakers of "one for them (the studio) and one for me", in which a director gets a chance to make a big studio event movie, proves himself and then gets to make their own passion project on a large scale. Much like the original Twister, the action and the scenes with tornadoes are great and the scenes without them feel like filler. The dialogue is extremely on the nose (there is actually a character saying "this isn't my first rodeo" at a rodeo. No joke.). But the one thing that truly shines beyond the action in this is Glen Powell. Talk about an actor lifting the sail of the whole entire film! At this point in his career after Top Gun: Maverick, Anyone But You and the recent Hit Man, he is truly a movie star who is oozing charisma. It's definitely something to see on the big screen more so than at home. In the end, this is a paycheck movie for Chung and the cast with some inspired moments, but Chung does get the chance to pull on the audiences heartstrings by showing the importance of community...but I just wish the story had more to it.

Defining Moments: 5 of WrestleMania's Finest Matches of All Time
We are a few days away from the 40th annual WrestleMania, the biggest event in professional wrestling. This year, the WWE is garnering an amount of mainstream attention that it hasn't seen since the late 1990s during the Attitude Era.
WrestleMania is known for being a spectacle. If it were a movie, it would be Star Wars, Jurassic Park, or The Avengers; it's a show that brings together casual and hardcore fans alike. In comparison to professional sports, the event is equal to the Super Bowl or the World Cup Finals in soccer.
At the first WrestleMania in 1985, celebrity involvement was featured in the matches and storylines. This tradition has been sustained over time. Almost every WrestleMania features some participation from actors, professional athletes, or political figures.
Since its inception, most WrestleMania shows have been a culmination or blow-off for most WWE (WWF) storylines. It's where a feud would come to its conclusion, or a new star was made. Over time, possibly starting with the classic Intercontinental match between Macho Man Randy Savage and Ricky Steamboat, Wrestlemania became a stage for performers to put out their best effort. The goal was to steal the show and have the best match of the night.
To paraphrase a future Hall-of-Famer and current all-time great, Chris Jericho, it may last for a day when you have a great match on a house show. When you have a great match on a show like Monday Night Raw or Smackdown, it lasts about a week or more. A great match on a PPV could last a few months, a year, or a couple of years. But a great match on WrestleMania can have a lasting impact that stays forever. It's a stage where its effect can be felt by those in attendance and generations to come.
Needless to say, while the entertainment and grandeur of WrestleMania make it special, the wrestling inside the squared circle has kept people coming back for more. WrestleMania is the ultimate extravaganza in sports entertainment, but the wrestling at WrestleMania is just as vital as the spectacle.
In the same vein as music and film, what makes a great wrestling match is subjective. Some may like a fast pace with plenty of high spots, and others prefer a story that has as much drama as it does action.
Frontproof Media will unveil some of the finest WrestleMania matches in the event's nearly 40-year history. These matches are personal favorites that hold the veil of nostalgia, propelling them upward in some cases. This should not be taken as a definitive list. These are the matches that resonated with us the most in 2024. There will be lots of Macho Man Randy Savage, Bret Hart, and Shawn Michaels, and no Iron Man match.
Honorable Mentions:
Macho Man Randy Savage vs Ricky Steamboat - WM 3
Daniel Bryan vs Triple H - WM 30
Rey Mysterio vs. Kurt Angle vs Randy Orton WM 22
Eddie Guerrero vs. Kurt Angle - WM 20
Money in the Bank Ladder Match - WM 21
Mick Foley vs. Edge - WM 22
Shawn Michaels vs Bret Hart - WM 12
Bret Hart vs Steve Austin - WM 13
Hulk Hogan vs Ultimate Warrior - WM 6
Triple H vs. The Undertaker - WM 28
Stone Cold Steve Austin vs. The Rock - WM 17
THE TOP 5
5. ‘Rowdy Roddy’ Piper vs. Bret “The Hitman” Hart
WrestleMania VIII
April 05, 1992
WWF Intercontinental Championship
As you’ll see through most of this list, the in-ring work will hold the largest chunk regarding its placement. However, the aesthetics of the match will be significant. The little details, from the crowd to the entrances, will all be taken into account.
The Intercontinental championship is a favorite for fans who started watching wrestling in the late 1980s and early 1990s. It’s undoubtedly one of the best-looking titles, but it’s the matches associated with the championship by those who held it that truly endeared it to fans.
Rowdy Roddy Piper was one of the most famous professional wrestlers ever. He was the foil to Hulk Hogan during the height of the first WrestleMania and is remembered as one of the greatest talkers in the history of the wrestling business. He excelled outside the ring and exceeded Hogan in Hollywood by appearing in cult classics such as John Carpenter’s They Live.
Heading into WrestleMania VIII, Piper and Bret Hart were at two different stages in their careers. Piper was the veteran who held a title but never needed one, while Hart was the former champion who was still trying to prove himself as one of the company’s next top stars.
Everything about Piper vs. Hart works on all levels. From the interview segment right before the match to the stellar commentary of the late Bobby ‘The Brain’ Heenan. It’s the rare all-babyface match that kept the crowd cheering for both competitors.
Looking back at Hart’s work, one of the aspects that stands out is the little unique nuances he would add to the story of his matches. This was especially true during his first run in the early 1990s.
The match starts slow, but after Hart gets the better of Piper during some exchanges, a slap to the face changes the mood in the ring. In several instances, Hart plays possum, pretending to be more hurt than he is to get a pinfall on Piper. This only infuriates Piper and leads him to brawl.
So much was packed into a match that was less than 15 minutes. Piper almost turned to the dark to wallop Hart with the bell to the blood, which added to the drama. Hart would defeat Piper by reversing a sleeper hold for his second Intercontinental Championship. For this writer, his run from SummerSlam 1991-1992 is the best run of any champion to hold the title.
For years, Hart was embroiled in controversy and personal feuds with Hogan. But getting put over by Piper may have been even better. Piper-Hart remains one of the most underrated championship matches in the history of WrestleMania.
4. Macho King Randy Savage vs. The Ultimate Warrior
WrestleMania VII
March 24, 1991
Retirement Match
Although recognized as one of the greatest performers in the history of professional wrestling, Randy Savage still feels underrated. Bret Hart and Shawn Michales get most of the credit for ushering in relatively smaller performers at the world championship level. But Savage, who may have been smaller in stature than both, was the first to hold the WWF (WWE) world title multiple times before either was on the world title scene.
The Ultimate Warrior would never be considered a great worker who can have an excellent match with anyone. But, in the right circumstances and story, he managed to pull his weight to deliver.
A unique entrant on this list, Savage-Warrior is all about the story and drama. Savage met the Warrior in a retirement match after costing him the world title against Sgt. Slaughter at that year’s Royal Rumble event. Savage, at the time, was aligned with Queen Sherri, and during the match, the camera constantly cut toward Miss Elizabeth, who was in attendance.
The action inside the ring was kept simple, with Savage doing the majority of the work and pulling out all the stops to make the Warrior look as strong as possible. Savage would land five of his famous diving elbow drops to no avail, as the Warrior defeated him after three shoulder blocks. However, the victory almost didn’t matter, as the drama was all on Savage.
After the match and now forced into retirement, Savage was attacked by Sherri, who drew Miss Elizabeth from the crowd. In a scene out a movie, Elizabeth and Savage embraced to the roar of the audience. It is still one of the most memorable WrestleMania moments in history.
For delivering the best match of the Ultimate Warrior’s career and doing so in one of the most emotional matches in WrestleMania history, Savage deserves tons of praise. It’s a match with infinite replay value and highlights the magic behind what makes professional wrestling so enticing for fans.
Certainly, Savage’s classic match with Ricky Steamboat could have easily been on this list. The match with Warrior is here because it was a more difficult endeavor and an example of why Randy Savage should be mentioned more frequently in any discussion of the best of all time.
3. Kurt Angle vs. Shawn Michaels
WrestleMania 21
April 03, 2005
Dream Match
I am fully willing to admit that I am in the minority and on an island by myself regarding my opinion on some of Shawn Michaels' WrestleMania matches. You'll find Michaels' match with The Undertaker from WrestleMania 25 on most lists. It's considered one of the best matches in the event's history and has been given rare status with few peers. However, as far as I'm concerned, that level of adoration belongs to Michael's match with Kurt Angle at WrestleMania 21.
Seldom do dream matches live up to the expectations in the minds of fans. And yet Angle-Michaels was a perfect style clash that told a story that could only be weaved through professional wrestling.
Whenever Kurt Angle stepped into the ring, everything he did was with purpose. There was a matter of logic and intent to his work combined with small details that made him a veteran in less than a decade. The level of intensity in his work made you forget you were watching professional wrestling. He crossed back and forth between the lines of reality and entertainment.
Michaels and Angle took their time, starting with the former Olympic gold medalist mat wrestling his opponent. The match slowly built into a crescendo, gradually increasing the intensity, leading to one of the most momentous endings to any WrestleMania match.
The second half of Michael's career, when he returned in 2002, allowed him to be part of one of the greatest rosters of any wrestling company in history. He took advantage of his surroundings and arguably surpassed his accomplishments of the 1990s in his prime.
With numerous stellar matches on his resume, this match firmly anointed Michaels with the crown of Mr. WrestleMania. No matter the expectation or circumstance, Michaels always delivered on the biggest stages. Angle-Michaels was special and is the benchmark that fans will hold as the gold standard whenever dream matches are brought up.
2. Shawn Michaels vs. Triple H vs. Chris Benoit
WrestleMania XX
March 14, 2004
World Heavyweight Championship
This is the most controversial pick on this list. It isn't easy at times to separate fandom from reality. And because of that, this main event has been largely forgotten and buried due to Chris Benoit's involvement. This focuses simply on the match itself.
For years, the triple-threat match between Shawn Michaels, Triple H, and Chris Benoit was arguably the best main event in WrestleMania history. The match was near perfect. It took its time to tell a story and was action-packed and bloody. It also gave the then-underdog a moment of glory that felt cathartic to most hardcore wrestling fans. Unfortunately, that moment has been ruined for most.
But on its own, in a vacuum where nothing exists after, this match has countless memorable spots. Madison Square Garden was fully invested in the match and behind Benoit, cheering almost every move. From Michaels and Triple H deciding to work together to get rid of Benoit, Michaels's crimson bloody mask of a face, and the dramatic ending with Benoit putting Triple H in the cross-face submission. The match works on all levels as the perfect main event.
WrestleMania hasn't been in an arena setting since 2006, with WrestleMania 22 in Chicago. The event in 2020 took place in an empty arena due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Going back to watch WrestleMania 20 and 22, one yearns for that crowd setting, especially in the case of 22, as every match felt like a smaller version of Hulk Hogan's match with The Rock from WrestleMania 18.
The ending with Benoit celebrating, then seeing Eddie Guerrero in the ring applauding him and then embracing was genuinely remarkable. Guerrero had a stellar match with Kurt Angle earlier that same night, which could have also made this list.
It's contentious and concealed in hiding, meant to be forgotten due to the winner's actions a few years later. However, the triple threat match from WrestleMania 20 encompasses everything that makes the event historic. It provides moments you'll never forget, even if you want to.
1A. Bret Hart vs. Owen Hart
WrestleMania X
March 20, 1994
Brother vs. Brother
1B. Shawn Michaels vs. Razor Ramon
WrestleMania X
March 20, 1994
Ladder Match for the Undisputed Intercontinental Championship
WrestleMania X isn't usually considered one of the top-tier WrestleMania events. Primarily, it's in the middle of the pack. But when I think of the event, words like flawless and revolutionary come to mind. It's a show that has two perfect matches.
The Brother vs. Brother match between real-life brothers Bret Hart and Owen Hart is often relegated to being labeled as the best opening match in WrestleMania history. However, it deserves to be mentioned as one of the best in the company's history and professional wrestling in general.
The story of the bratty younger brother trying to prove himself at the expense of his older brother is relatable to anyone with a sibling.
This opening match at WrestleMania 10 is a showcase for Owen Hart. He does some of the high-flying moves that made him famous but is purposely restrained, instead choosing to wrestle on even terms with his brother. The pace of the match had a high intensity with every move done with purpose to further the story being told.
Amazingly, the way the match was constructed wasn't the original plan. Changes were made at the last minute to ensure that the story of Owen as the heel brother was kept intact. This proved to be the correct strategy.
"There's a funny story about that match," Bret Hart told Sports Illustrated in 2020. "Owen and I had a match worked out that we worked on for three or four weeks. We were all set to do the match; we had it all locked in. Then, I called him the night before we left to fly to New York. I said, 'Meet me up at Dad's house; we need to change the whole match.' So we met in 'The Dungeon' and changed everything.
"Owen was too babyface," Hart continued. "He had too many nice moves. I remember I said to Owen, 'You're a heel now. You've got to stay that way.' If Owen did a bunch of dropkicks off the top, they're going to go, 'Why are we booing this guy?' We needed him more mean, more nasty, more cheap shots, doing anything to win—the ball shot, biting and bending my finger. If you watch that match, he really got heat."
The match has the advantage of having two endings. The ending with the obnoxious Owen coming out on top by using one of Bret's proven moves, the victory roll against him, was brilliant.
But what puts the match over the top is at the end of the show. Later that night, after triumphantly winning back the WWF (WWE) World Championship, Bret Hart is held on the shoulder of the company's babyfaces. Then there's Owen standing in the aisle, staring at his brother while seething. He proved he was on his brother's level with a victory earlier that night, and now Bret stands as the world champion. It was the perfect ending that continued a feud that defined 1994.
The ladder match between Shawn Michaels and Razor Ramon might be tame compared to some of its successors. However, much like the match between the Hart brothers, Razor Ramon and Shawn Michaels executed a story while managing to be innovative. This wasn't a match just filled with high spots; it was a battle for who could claim to be the true Intercontinental champion. That bit of reality was felt throughout the match, and the details of both performers brought the match to another level.
The entrances with Michaels moving around the ladder and Ramon going under the ladder are the little moments that can add so much to a match. The impact this match would have on future generations is comprehensive and has yet to be done better. There have been bigger spots and falls from greater heights, but none were better matches.
It didn't quite steal the show from Bret and Owen. However, I won't debate anyone who has the Ladder match as the best of the show.

Same anon from the movie question: you're a Heath Ledger fan? Who are your other favourite actors?
I love these film related questions 😭
So here are my top actors. Some of them I have seen most of their filmography and others only a little but still think they are remarkably talented and/or entertaining. The favourites I’ve listed are purely about their performances, not necessarily the films themselves.
1) Heath Ledger. Obviously. I have loved him my whole life and I can barely think about the man without crying. He was phenomenal and could do anything. I’m so sad he didn’t get to see his own Oscar win. Favourites: 10TIHAY, A Knight’s Tale, Brokeback Mountain, The Dark Knight
2) Jake Gyllenhaal. Give this man an Oscar already. Every few months I suddenly remember his filmography exists and rewatch as much of it as I can. Favourites: Brokeback Mountain, Zodiac, Prisoners, Donnie Darko, Nightcrawler, Love & Other Drugs, (I could list several more)
3) Nicolas Cage. Okay so maybe he’s not the best actor in the world but I will watch anything this man is in. And I mean ANYTHING. Favourites: National Treasure, Knowing, TUWOMT, G-Force, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse
4) Pedro Pascal. Another obvious one. He’s so good and I’m so glad he’s getting so much appreciation at the moment. Give him an Emmy please. Thank you. Maybe not the first that comes to mind when you think of “great actors” but certainly should be. Favourites: Prospect, TUWOMT, TLOU, The Mandalorian, Kingsman: The Golden Circle, Narcos
5) Viola Davis. I cry every time she cries. She always hits me right in the gut and you can feel every ounce of pain. She’s EGOT for a reason. Favourites: HTGAWM, Prisoners, The Help, Fences
6) Angela Bassett. You know you’re going to see a good performance when Angela Bassett appears on your screen. Favourites: Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, 911, AHS
7) Paul Dano. Soft-spoken and constantly being beat-up on screen. And yet he’s incredible every time. Favourites: The Batman, Little Miss Sunshine, Love and Mercy, Okja, There Will Be Blood, Prisoners, Swiss Army Man
8) Samuel L. Jackson. Every time this man says “motherfucker” I smile uncontrollably. Favourites: MCU, Pulp Fiction, The Incredibles, Star Wars, Kingsman: The Secret Service, Snakes on a Plane
9) Queen Latifah. Brings a certain energy that cannot be matched. Favourites: Chicago, Hairspray, Ice Age
10) Lucy Liu. I fell in love with her when I saw Charlie’s Angels for the first time. Favourites: Charlie’s Angels, Kung-Fu Panda, Chicago,
11) Michelle Yeoh. She’s just cool, man. I don’t know what else to say. Favourites: Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Last Christmas, Reign of Assassins
12) Jeff Goldblum. He plays every character the same but IT WORKS and I love it every single time. Favourites: The Fly, Cats & Dogs, Thor: Ragnarok
13) Willem Dafoe. I never intentionally watch films with him in them but always get a million times more excited when he shows up in them. Favourites: Spider-Man, American Psycho, The Great Wall
14) Joe Mazzello. Underrated actor honestly, deserves a lot more appreciation and better roles. Petition to get him a better agent. A lot of his work as a child are great as well. Favourites: Bohemian Rhapsody, Jurassic Park, The Pacific, Undrafted, Dear Sidewalk, The Cure
15) Leigh Whannell. The guy is Australian and plays whiney, pathetic characters. What’s not to love? He’s also a great writer and director! Favourites: Saw, Dying Breed, Cooties, Insidious

AU Meme - Day 3 - Medieval
See, I'm finally writing fic for this meme
Fandom: Wrestling Characters: HHH Rating/Warning: gen fic
Medieval AU
He wants to ride out; he longs to ride out.  To defend the kingdom as he has done so often before.
He knows he can't, those days are behind him now, a knight who cannot hold sword, shield or lance is more of a danger to his own side than any opponent, although a civil war is precisely the situation where his experience would be most needed.
Civil wars are the worst of wars, because both sides are aware of the other's weaknesses and driven by whatever rage started the war to attack those weaknesses.
He recognises the tactics of several of the most recent raids against King Vince's strongholds - like so many Helmsley learnt from the Kowalski's Ars Belli Pulchrae but he was taught all the ways to lie and cheat in war, all things the Ars Belli Pulchrae would never have taught, by Sir William of Regal, and the way Duke Tony's raiders attacked the castle at Full Sail, that was pure William.
Helmsley can't claim that he doesn't know what grievances started this war, what has lead so many of his friends to join with the traitor Duke Tony.  He shares so many of them, but he made his choice, years ago, and he'll stay true to it.

Fanfic asks: 🖊
@lenny-kosnowski, more than most people, knows I'm impossible and work on multiple WIPs at the same time. At the moment, I'm actively working on a Mission Impossible fic, a Moulin Rouge fic, a Last of the Summer Wine fic, a Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle fic and a Batman fic. As the Batman fic is the one she knows about and has the temporary title of "Exit, pursued by Aunts", I present the most recent paragraph.
"Bruce hadn't considered how bad the worst of it could get, and how his secret identity would make it worse. People said things to Batman that they'd never say to Bruce Wayne, particularly when talking about Bruce Wayne."

AU Meme - Day 13 - Buddy Cops/Detective
Fandom: Wrestling Characters: Darby Allin, Sting, Ricky Starks and Taz Rating/Warnings: Gen fic
Starks was a loud-mouth braggart. The worst of it was, he was probably as good at being a detective as he thought he was. That was why the Bureau had put him and Hobbs (of course 'and Hobbs') on the drugs running case out of Jacksonville. Darby, meanwhile, knows he's "the posterboy for tweakers" (thank you, Ricky Starks), and you know what, he's sure he'd ace this undercover mission in other circumstances, but he's been given the straightest arrow since Joe Friday as his partner. Darby understands why departmental policy is no-one goes undercover alone, but he knows how he's going to infiltrate the biker gang with a sideline in meth (or the meth gang with a sideline in bikes, opinion varies), but he has no idea how Sting plans to because the man radiates "don't mind me, busy being responsible and good." Everyone knows he ought to be Bureau Chief and the only reason he isn't is because he doesn't want the job, because he doesn't want the IV antacids Taz says are required to cope with the agita that inevitably comes with it. Darby plays his face as strong as he can while Sting turns up on the Friday. In a suit. In a biker bar. It goes as well as expected. "I just want a beer, alright." And it's like Sting straightens up and suddenly realises that Sting is not a small man - not as big as several of the bikers, but serious enough that they aren't going to do anything. Somehow it works, Darby spends more time in the bar, but they just accept Sting as a businessman who has to commute and uses the bar as a good place to break, and maybe spends more time there than he intends, and more money, and more time and money on some of the girls. Darby isn't sure how that slow (really, really slow) but steadily progressing investigation descends into him and Sting fighting their way through the gang and eventually Sting riding a monster truck over all their bikes. He is reasonably sure he heard maniacal laughter out of Sting. He definitely heard Taz laughing. In fact, he's not sure if Taz is ever going to stop laughing. "Are you not surprised?" Because, see also, Straight Arrow Sting turning out to know three monster truck owners well enough to ask to borrow their pride and joys ... "You do know he was like Californian trick surfing champion ... thirty, ... no forty years ago. You don't grow out of that kind of stupid." Well he never!

How To Measure The Success Of Your Logistics Sustainable Initiatives?
youtube
1) Sustainable logistics is a pressing concern for shippers and retailers today.
The concern we now have for our environment is growing fast, and not a moment too soon either! We see everyday examples that environmental damage and its impact on our lives is not a "distant and distant reality." It's here, it's now. This summer's heatwave in Europe has exposed the harsh reality...again.
We've seen the UK government advise its citizens to work from home due to the heat! Also, many locals have left their jobs to move to colder climates.
In a way, this marks the beginning of “climate refugees” that experts have long been warning us about. Displaced populations due to rising water levels, that is,
"Water refugees" is another looming refugee crisis. If we don't act quickly, other disasters are just around the corner...
The COVID-19 pandemic has increased the number of shipments exponentially. On the other hand, more deliveries would mean more vans, which would mean even more emissions in the last mile.
There are increasing government regulations as well as changes in consumer habits; Measuring your carbon emissions has never been more important. And given the intensity of the vehicle fleet and the resource usage to perform the last mile logistics, this is one of the first areas that logistics and distribution companies should consider.
The vaunted goal of Net Zero. The recently concluded COP27 aimed to bring about a big change by asking governments for commitments. While there is no doubt about important protocols such as the Paris Agreement, heated debates remain as to whether the measures are tough enough.
The World Economic Forum forecasts a 75% increase in supply demand. in the 100 largest cities by 2030. This will increase the number of delivery vehicles on our roads by 35%.
A 30% increase in emissions. And bad traffic!
Disturbingly, surveys show that nearly two-thirds of companies do not see net-zero targets as a top priority in our post-pandemic world. However, surveys have also shown that 50% of businesses also recognize that consumer preferences and awareness are evolving. And if consumers don't see a brand as "green" and do enough to eliminate their carbon footprint, they will abandon those brands.
So why these mixed realities?
3) The challenges of measuring green logistics
An important part of the problem is the lack of clarity about the methods used to measure green initiatives and their impact.
According to studies, only 10% of small and medium-sized companies currently measure their emissions. For the largest companies, this number rises to just 25%.
Given that the logistics and distribution industry is one of the largest emitters of CO2, it has been happily found that almost 60% of major haulers are currently measuring their emissions.
4) Sustainability Legislation: Up the Stake
Companies that have swept Net Zero mandates under the rug had better wake up and smell the coffee: The new law wave is here. Governments and their agencies around the world no longer just talk, they must act.
For example, the EU has already proposed including shipping in the carbon trading market. This would put much more pressure on retailers and transport companies to adopt green operations
A new UK law aiming to cut emissions by 80% by 2035 is already putting pressure on retailers and transport companies
5) Evolution of consumer preferences
About a famous sentence from the hit film "Jurassic Park" from 1994, which reads: " Nature finds a way", one could say, environmental protection has closed. Here the consumer sets the tone.
Consumer requirements have changed rapidly and sustainability is one of the most important purchase arguments for consumers when deciding which to buy brands they should buy.
Over 80% of consumers consider sustainability "important" when shopping About 60% of consumers are willing to switch brands if they see the neglect of carbon emissions see emissions.
Increasingly, investors are now asking their companies to publish data on their supply chain carbon footprint.
However, as mentioned above, this must be the case for Standardization and clarity when measuring CO2 emissions. Shippers and retailers involved in the last mile should feel confident about publishing their sustainability data.
6) Green Logistics: Calculating the Big Picture
Reducing emissions over the last mile would be directly impacted by reducing fuel consumption, for example by switching to electric vehicles.
However, it is not that simple and everyone must understand the full scope of what it takes to measure sustainable logistics. And here lies the most difficult challenge for green logistics: ensuring that indirect emissions are accounted for (minimized, eliminated, or controlled) throughout the supply chain.
The GHG (Greenhouse Gas Protocol) Greenhouse) has several Standards to make it easier to understand divided into Scope 1, 2, and 3. Scope 3 is the most difficult to measure and control and the easiest to overlook. This is because it includes all indirect emissions caused by resources not owned or controlled by the company, but it also includes all indirect impacts that the company has throughout its value chain.
7) Execution - Easier Said Than Done
While the CHG protocol provides useful guidance, executing it is often an extremely difficult exercise. As a result, there is now a growing number of “climate advisors” who are on hand to provide you with advice and assistance. They bring a wealth of strategies, insights, and resources to help you.
The general rule of thumb is that most companies can create the first cut of a sustainable plan within the first 6 months. This also describes areas where more research/data is needed.
The most viable method, experts say, is a fluid plan that evolves as you collect more data and learn through the first steps (even by trial and error) since it's an ever-evolving plan and it's a relatively new field.
For example, food companies that have gone green measure their life cycle consumption across processing, transportation, packaging, ingredients, recipes, end-use, and waste. There are often surprises regarding the CO2 impact of the ingredients. Foods like beef are expected to be high, but others like peppers and rice were higher than expected.
8) Embrace full process automation:
Of course, calculating, managing, and monitoring emissions as an ongoing (critical) activity is quite difficult. and a task that requires a lot of resources!
It is therefore imperative to automate the supply chain and implement specialized fleet management software (especially with a focus on the last mile). These are designed to track every emission unit of your fleet vehicles, drivers, routes, package types (etc.). You can also set "goals" for carbon units while optimizing your delivery logistics.
Other advanced operational software, specifically designed for GHG Protocol reporting, allows companies to monitor and report on their carbon footprint.
This software is so advanced that it can collect hundreds of thousands of data points and calculate your emissions in seconds!
You can split your emissions by activity, process, product, region (etc.). .) to develop their sustainability models and make informed decisions to reduce their carbon footprint.
Conclusion: Logistics and distribution companies need to apply methods and measure their effectiveness. The introduction of technology as delivery software is the first step in achieving this goal.

James Ronan's Top 5 Jurassic Park 3 Film Moments
The third article in this series counting down my Top 5 film moments looks at the 2001 Jurassic film Jurassic Park 3. Considered by many fans to be the black sheep of the Jurassic Park film series. (Thanks to the Jurassic Vault for the great images)
Jurassic Park 3 had a very troubled development. Directed by Joe Johnston (the first time for the franchise to have another director other than Spielberg) the film never had a final draft of the script before shooting. It released with mixed reviews and only made $368 million on a $93 million budget. It remains the lowest grossing Jurassic Park film and one of the most controversial in terms of canon consistency within the franchise. I decided to take the opportunity to now go over some of my Top 5 film moments from JP3 as the film celebrated its 19th anniversary back in late July. Strangely Universal seems to have a problem remembering the dates of theatrical release for the Jurassic films. Jurassic Park 3 according to the Jurassic World Twitter account released on July 17th, 2001 but in fact it actually released on July 18th, 2001 theatrically. Jurassic Outpost recently conducted a very interesting interview with Shelly Johnson the Cinematographer on JP3, it is well worth checking out for some in-depth film insight on the production and development of the film.
Before I get into my Top 5 moments, I want to just mention a few of the reasons why JP3 remains a controversial instalment in the Jurassic Park series among the fandom. Jurassic Park 3 again takes place on the island of Isla Sorna, the same island that was seen in The Lost World: Jurassic Park. Sorna in JP3 looks radically different in terms of flora compared with what was seen in The Lost World with lush tropical forests compared to the redwoods seen throughout most of the previous film. Many fans speculate that Sorna has a diverse flora on the island with different biomes being separated by the different sides of the island. It was an interesting choice to change the vegetation from what was seen in The Lost World for the third film and remains a debated topic within the fandom.
We are also introduced once again to some new Velociraptors in Jurassic Park 3. These Raptors are more intelligent than the previous Raptors we have seen throughout the series. Behaviour of the Raptors is a big plot point of the film with Dr. Alan Grant and Dr. Ellie Sattler discussing their intelligence, before we get a scene of Billy showcasing a 3D model of a Velociraptor resonating chamber. The Male Raptors are shown with quills on the backs of their head and neck, a palaeontology characteristic introduced to make the Raptors a bit more accurate and to appease fans who wanted to see feathers on display in the film. Speaking of Dr. Alan Grant and Dr. Ellie Sattler both Sam Neill and Laura Dern return to Jurassic Park 3 with Sam Neill again in a major role, despite both actors missing from the previous instalment in the franchise. Whilst Sam Neill and Laura Dern’s return to the franchise was most welcome, many fans had and continue to take issue with how their relationship changes from Jurassic Park to Jurassic Park 3. With Ellie now married to Mark Deggler (who works for the US State Department) who she has two children with. Alan is very much on his own and still working on dinosaurs helping palaeontology students like Billy Brennan. Whilst I am very much excited for Sam Neill and Laura Dern’s re-appearance in Jurassic World: Dominion, I am really hoping they keep the dynamic they had as friends from JP3 and don’t break up the family Ellie had in the third film. Just leave it be, as Jurassic World: Dominion has enough to cover as it is following on from Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. Another issue JP3 brought up is around the Pteranodons being shown free at the end of TLW and another species of Pteranodon being caged up and finally getting free during the events of the third film.  Whilst these issues may seem trivial to some, Jurassic Park 3 does not really address any of them, which is why they remain hotly debated topics within the fandom.
Unlike the previous films John Williams does not return to score the film. Don Davis takes on the composer role with a soundtrack that is quite different from the past Jurassic films but still retains some of the classic Jurassic themes. Jurassic Park 3 is my least favourite film in the franchise, but the film does have some great sequences and character moments that are worth looking at so let’s break down what moments really impacted me shall we?
5. Billy Stop! (The Pteranodon Attack Sequence)
The Pteranodon attack sequence is up as my 5th Top moment from the film. Many fans including me love the Pteranodon Aviary design, the layout, and the amount of mist throughout the sequence which really set the scene as a completely strange and unknown part of Isla Sorna. The Pteranodons themselves showcase behaviour which can be related to the original Jurassic Park novel. The Aviary sequence in the original novel is very different, but it was nice to see that JP3 took that sequence as inspiration and made its own thing whilst still referring to the original novel with Alan, Lex, and Tim. We knew Billy would end up using the parachute further on in the movie as when they first discover it, after the Spinosaurus attack sequence Grant asks Billy “if he can fly one of those?” Overall, the sequence is well done and when Billy gets attacked by the Pteranodons in the water, the attack is brutal.
The music by Don Davis in this scene also amps up the horror of Billy being tortured in the water as he goes down stream whilst another Pteranodon turns and looks at both Dr. Grant and Paul Kirby. It is surprisingly quite a dark scene for JP3 which overall has the lightest tone of any Jurassic film. Ultimately Billy survives the attack sequence, which for me really negates the impact of the attack in the first place. If anything, it would have been more appropriate for Dr. Grant to have found Billy’s body later on washed up on a riverbank, with Billy holding Dr. Grant's hat. Not only would have it been a poignant moment, but it would have aided Grant’s development further to have lost a student on such an expedition that ultimately shouldn’t have occurred in the first place.
4. What’s a bad idea? (The Spinosaurus Plane Attack)
I think many JP3 fans might be surprised that this is 4th on my list in terms of Top moments in JP3. But my main complaints in this scene relate to the behaviour of the Spinosaurus aegyptiacus itself which as a plot device, seems to have a knack for following the main group around the island. The death of Cooper is so well done and is in my opinion the best death in JP3 period. The setup for the Spinosaurus from Coopers death is so well done that the aeroplane attack sequence just doesn’t live up to the awesome death we just saw moments before. We also don’t see any remorse or loss from Udesky or any of the group that Cooper and Nash have just died after the plane attack and it is just odd to say the least in the context of the film.
I do have issues with how the plane attack sequence takes place. The fact that the Spinosaurus can track down the plane after it crashes rather quickly without anyone hearing it approach until it breaks open the plane is a major problem I have. Whilst this type of issue can also be compared to the Tyrannosaurus Rex appearance in the Visitor Centre at the end of Jurassic Park, how this scene takes place in JP3 with the Spinosaurus is very different. We assume that the Spinosaurus is a fairly intelligent animal to have tracked the group down and to destroy the plane the way it does, but later on in the film when it finds the group at the fence and also attacks the boat on the river we see that the animal doesn’t have much behaviour at all. Unfortunately, the animal is only used in servicing the plot and we don’t see anything more to it then to just act as a B movie monster. I really like the Spinosaurus design for what it was/is and the animatronic as well as the CGI still look really good on screen, despite the animatronic being stiff in some sequences.
I do like the scene when the plane falls out of the tree and the group are all screaming as we get a cool shot of the plane just crunching up as it hits the ground under its immense weight. It is also the first and only sequence throughout the films where an aeroplane comes under attack from a dinosaur. It makes my 4th spot though for setting up the Spinosaurus for what it ultimately is, a movie monster with little character. It is a shame that the Spinosaurus is showcased this way because it was the first Spinosaurid to be featured in a Jurassic Park film. Ultimately a lot of this comes down to the filmmakers deciding that a bigger and scary dinosaur needed to take down the T.Rex and become the focal point for the film. But the Spinosaurus lacks animalistic behaviour, something we saw more from the other dinosaurs throughout the previous two films. We never see it drink; we never see it sleep. We don’t see it hunt other dinosaurs (apart from the T.Rex kill) or fish despite spooking them in the river. It is just there to chase the group around the island and in its final scene, it runs away from fire and is never seen again.
3. Brachiosaurus on the Bank
Third on my list takes place after one of my favourite JP discussions throughout the films. I must quote it below because not only is it so poignant in the context of the film but is one of those moments in JP3 that was needed a bit more throughout.
Dr. Grant: I have a theory that there are two kinds of boys. There are those that want to be astronomers, and those that want to be astronauts. The astronomer, or the palaeontologist, gets to study these amazing things from a place of complete safety.
Erik: But then you never get to go into space.
Dr. Grant: Exactly. That's the difference between imagining and seeing: to be able to touch them. And that's... that's all that Billy wanted.
This discussion between Alan and Eric was another plot point that made me want to pursue palaeontology as a career. My dream career after seeing Jurassic Park was palaeontology but this discussion in JP3 also hit me and has stuck with me ever since I saw the film back in 2001. However, whilst this discussion has resonated with me a lot over the years, I want to discuss the scene after, where we see most of the herbivores of Isla Sorna along the river whilst the classic Jurassic theme is played. Probably one of the mot awe-inspiring moments in the film, echoing the Brachiosaurus scene in Jurassic Park.
We see four Brachiosaurs alongside two Ankylosaurs, a herd of Stegosaurs and a few Parasaurolophus in the background. All the dinosaurs in Jurassic Park 3 are depicted with the most colourful designs we have seen throughout the first three films. The Brachiosaurs in particular display a very distinct patterning with a red skull and orange eyes. As someone who likes the improvements in colour design that the dinosaurs display in JP3 the Brachiosaur colour design is bizarre to say the least especially the skull where the redness is quite patchy. The eyes are also orange which contrasts too much with the red and the rest of the colour pattern. Regardless of the dinosaur designs the scene itself is set up and executed very well. The boat just casually glides down the river as the dinosaurs watch on. You really feel the size of the dinosaurs in this scene and it brings back that sense of wonder and awe of these creatures which we didn’t get in TLW apart from seeing the Stegosaurus herd for the first time. Whilst the river scene in JP3 is very brief it goes a long way to allowing the film some breathing room just taking in the dinosaurs in their island environment.
2. This is how you play God. (The INGEN compound)
Down to the final two now! My second on my list of Top moments must be the INGEN compound and its exploration by the group of the genetics laboratory/Embryonics Administration. There are two key things that make this scene outstanding. The first is the set design which is incredible, especially with the sunlight coming in through the windows. I love the grittiness, dirtiness, and rawness of how the genetics laboratory looks, as it was left after releasing the dinosaurs into the wild. We get a real sense of the experiments INGEN was doing on the dinosaurs with the green tanks as well as how they were looked after with the incubators. The second thing I love about this scene is the score that plays alongside it, called the Raptor Room. Again, this score is very reminiscent of the Hatching Baby Raptor theme from Jurassic Park and fits so incredibly well with the group walking through looking at what INGEN was doing. The theme captures that wonder of creation which we first saw in Jurassic Park with the hatchling baby Raptor but applies it in different circumstances whilst looking at experimental dinosaurs and hatched eggshells.
The INGEN compound is also a huge plot point in terms of INGENs operations on Sorna which was discussed in TLW where Hammond mentioned “Site B being the factory floor” for the dinosaurs. Here we truly get to see the factory floor in all its glory and for me it is one of the most interesting scenes in Jurassic Park 3. As someone who loves both the original novels, knowing that the INGEN genetics lab/compound is a huge part of the second book, I was thrilled when it was shown on Sorna within the film. The way this whole scene is shot remains for me one of my favourite scenes in JP3 and it adds some really interesting backstory to INGEN as a company, how they operated and how things were left when they released the dinosaurs on Sorna and left the island.
1.  Dr. Alan Grant Palaeontology Lecture
Going full circle my Top favourite film moment within Jurassic Park 3 belongs to the man himself Dr. Alan Grant in his palaeontology presentation on Raptors. One of the earliest film scenes taking place only seven minutes in, the way this scene is presented shows what many palaeontologists do at some point in their lives, giving presentations/lectures to the public.  I really love the scene because it takes place like a proper lecture. It gives backstory to the viewer as to Alan's life as well as the current discussion going on regarding Raptor intelligence at the time, something of which is brought up throughout and becomes a focal point of the film's story. We see Raptor claws on display as Alan talks about the theories surrounding Raptor intelligence and behaviour.
Unlike Jurassic Park where palaeontology is seen in the field it is great to see JP3 embrace palaeontology talks to the public as it shows engagement with the wider audience and in this case the cinema audience. Obviously by now everyone in the lecture room knows about INGEN, Nublar and Sorna after the events of TLW due to the San Diego incident, and others like Ian Malcolm breaking NDA speaking out about what INGEN was doing and the deaths as a result. Alan calls INGEN out for “creating nothing more than theme park monsters, nothing more and nothing less” in the lecture room. This view changes again later in the film when Alan says to Billy on the plane “he forgotten”, referring to forgetting what it’s like to see a dinosaur for the first time. I enjoy the way the lecture talk plays out with Alan refusing to take questions relating to Jurassic Park and the San Diego incident. The fact that the Islands are such a present focus suggests that Alan just can’t get away from being linked to Jurassic Park and the events he was unfortunately involved in. What can be clearly seen is that Alan is tired of it all, he never wants to go back to the islands. He ultimately has a love hate relationship with the INGEN dinosaurs and what Jurassic Park was all about.
Many fans like myself take issue with Grant going so easily to Sorna with the Kirby’s due to money and most fans agree that it is such a 180-character change after saying “no force on earth or heaven could get him there”. Ultimately though, Alan is very much impacted by past film events and it is shown throughout. It is just a shame that by the end of the film these changes throughout his character are just left, nothing is done with them at all. After surviving another close call of death on another dinosaur island Alan isn’t too worried about the creatures getting off or the Pteranodons leaving Sorna for new nesting grounds.
This contrasts greatly to Ian Malcolm’s view of the world and the destruction caused by the genetic power INGEN unleashed as he sees it. This is an underlying theme in TLW from Malcolm due to his involvement on the island and his injury but is seen much more bluntly in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. It will be interesting to see how these different views of INGENs dinosaurs will be shown when both Ian and Alan are shown on screen together in Jurassic World: Dominion. I would say Alan falls somewhere in the middle whilst Ian seems to be vehemently against genetic power being out in the world. Regardless of the changes to Grant's character throughout JP3 the palaeontology lecture is a great piece of exposition, backstory and set up for Raptor intelligence. As well as Alan's life in the spotlight and what many palaeontologists enjoy doing, giving thrilling lectures on dinosaurs to the public. Because it is filmed so well and so enjoyable to watch it makes my number one spot as my favourite film moment from Jurassic Park 3.

What changed in Rogue One's reshoots?
First things first - basically every major film has reshoots. They're built into the schedule to solve problems that come up in the edit. Lotta good things happen in reshoots (arguably one of the best scenes in Rogue One happened cos of reshoots).
Tumblr media
BUT the Rogue One reshoots were so significant they weren't just fixing problems, they were restructuring the entire film. It takes up a full ep of the Going Rogue podcast but the TL:DR is: Tony Gilroy, the Oscar nominated writer and director who is now the showrunner on Andor, came onto Rogue One after the directors cut. He has a screenplay credit. To get that, he had to be responsible for at least 33% of the final film's script.
Again, he came in after the directors cut.
So what exactly did he change? Hard to get specifics for everything but here's a bunch of things that were added in the reshoots:
Jyn's Prison Breakout and Cassian's mission to the Ring of Kafrene
Tumblr media
The film originally cut from child Jyn to adult Jyn in rebel custody. These scenes were added during reshoots to set the scene and establish the characters better. It's also likely that Bodhi's first scene on Jedha was added in reshoots, but that also might have already been in the film and just moved earlier (although it was shot on a Volume LED background which makes me suspect it was a last minute addition, as the Volume was still being tested/developed during principal photography)
2. Most of Scarif
Tumblr media
This was significantly restructured to make it less complicated and shorter (the original cut was probably over an hour). Not all of it was reshot - often new scenes would be spliced into old ones. Jyn and Cassian climbing the data tower, and Cassian's apparent back-breaking fall, were reshoots - but Jyn's face off with Krennic on top of the tower was from the original cut (in that version, Cassian and K2 were probably guarding the bottom of the transmission tower and were shot down - there's some BTS footage of this with K2 dying dramatically next to an apparently dead Cassian, but Cassian and Jyn always died on the beach together so presumably Cassian still got a "return from the dead" hero moment.)
Other things on Scarif that changed included Chirrut and Baze's deaths, but probably not Bodhi's (although Bodhi was likely the first person to die in the original cut).
3. Most if not all of Saw's scenes
Tumblr media
This all gets a lil tin-foil hat vibes but the first few trailers/images of Saw Gerrera look much more like the younger Saw in the opening scene with a bald head/no beard. That could mean there were originally more backstory scenes of Young Jyn and Saw, but there's also some BTS footage of Felicity Jones in Jyn's Jedha costume talking to a bald, beardless Saw in what looks a lot like the Death Star attack scenes (lots of wind effects and blue screen). So unless Jyn has had exactly one set of clothes for the past 10 years, it's likely all of Saw's scenes on Jedha were re-shot.
4. Jyn and Cassian's argument after Eadu
Tumblr media
This is a vibes call rather than direct evidence but all the dialogue in this scene is very Tony Gilroy-esque. (Gilroy loves to write a smart, competent man who does what needs to be done in spite of grey morality, surrounded by and struggling against malignant bureaucracy.)
** EDIT: just realised this isn't as clear as it could be - there was probably a confrontation here in earlier cuts but the dialogue was almost definitely re-written by Gilroy, esp. because it plays into a mirror line from one of the first scenes ("I've never had the luxury of political opinions"/"We don't all have the luxury of deciding when are where to care")**
5. The Darth Vader Corridor Scene
Tumblr media
This one is thanks to editor Jabez Olssen - Rogue One always had at least one Darth Vader scene with Krennic, but during the edit everyone realised that they needed a "Jurassic Park T-rex" ending. Olssen pitched bringing Vader back for a final scene to slaughter Admiral Raddus and his crew while Princess Leia just barely escaped. The idea was approved by Kathleen Kennedy and workshopped into the final scene in the film, which Olssen's friend and mentor Peter Jackson was on set to watch. (this is why there's two credited actors as Darth Vader - one did the talking scene, the other was a stunt man who just did this fight).
As always, there's a full podcast episode on the reshoots that covers much more of Gilroy's career and style and how and why re-shoots happen, but also a much broader issue of how the reshoots stripped away a lot of who Jyn was for the sake of narrative simplicity, and why I don't think that would have happened if she was a male character.

2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 15, 25, 48, 49, 50 for the ask game (I am once again sorry for the barrage of questions 😅)
2. Go to your AO3 “Works” page, to the sidebar with all the filters, and click the drop-down arrow for “Additional Tags.” What are your top 3-5 most used tags? Do you think they accurately represent your writing habits?
Alternate Universe - Canon Divergence
Everyone Needs A Hug
Pre-Canon
Angst
Grief/Mourning
The second and fourth really sum up my writing. I have no regrets. 😂
3. What are some tropes or details that you think are very characteristic of your fics?
Found family is definitely characteristic of my fics. I write about people who became friends and more than that along the journey of life more than I do about blood family. The Guard series, the Cobb Vanth series, literally almost everything I've written.
4. What detail in [insert fic] are you really proud of?
In my recent Jurassic Park-World fic (yeah, I'm really calling it Park-World now), I mentioned Ian's book God Creates Dinosaurs. It's seen in one of the films for a brief moment (I forget which one) and I couldn't help but mention it.
In the Guard series, specifically Hearts Bound In Gold, Kanan's cameo. Well, like all the cameos. We have Reva and the Eighth Brother in there, too. I just love it so much. And Anakin's line, "Obi-Wan says I don’t have the patience.” It's so accurate. 😂
5. What do you wish someone would ask you about [insert fic]? Answer it now!
Honestly, I kinda want someone to ask who Rak's master is, not that I'm going to answer it until the big reveal. 😅
I kinda want someone to ask be about this line (from chapter two of A Hand In Refuge):
But the recognition of another can never truly cleanse one of the shock that courses through them upon seeing an old friend again.
Essentially, it's foreshadowing of Rak coming across a few familiar faces in the Imperial-era, after the fall of the Jedi and the Republic. Not that I'll say who, that's a surprise.
6. What’s one fact about the universe of [insert fic] that you didn’t get a chance to mention in the fic itself?
Actually, I don't really have anything for this one! Sorry about that 😅
15. What’s your favorite AU that you’ve written?
I really liked the western werewolf AU I wrote based on the No Need For Open Roads series. Probably since wolves are my favorite animal. Throw them with one of my favorite characters, how could this not be one of my favorites? That and I really love the opening paragraph, all the battlefield description in that.
The air tastes of blood, of the very blood staining his white coat crimson and plastering his pelt to his skin. It reeks of the very blood that weighs him down as he drags himself through the death and destruction strewn out across the battlefield, dripping amongst the screams that echo between gunfire and the snarls of another werewolf nearby-
But there's also Semper Paratus, my Mandalorian Station 19 one-shot AU focused around Cobb Vanth. The first time I've written anything about firefighters, and it took me doing some research even after watching all five seasons of Station 19. It was really fun throwing random characters from the series into different roles at the firestation. I kept everyone pretty in-character, too!
It's one of my longer one-shots, just over 7k words (my top is nearly 12k words). I'm proud of my longer one-shots, I never used to be able to do that.
Cobb throws himself aside just in time, just as the doorframe caves in on itself, a section of the roofing above bringing the wall down on it. He flies through the air and crashes to the ground as debris showers down around him, his body very narrowly clearing the worst of the burning timber. His shoulder burns from the impact upon the floor.
He squints as he raises his head, noting how thickly that the smoke is accumulating in the room with him. The door is gone. In its place, a vertical mound of flaming wood and metal.
He’s trapped.
In a room. With a fire.
Without gear.
25. What other websites or resources do you use most often when you write?
Wookieepedia, of course; WordHippo; Dreamily when I'm stuck on where to go next with the flow of the piece; YouTube to look up scenes for reference; Disney+ for the same; sometimes the other fandom-specific pedias.
48. What’s the last fic you read? Do you recommend it?
The last fic I fully read is Footsteps of Thunder by Untherius. It's a Jurassic Park post-apocalypse AU that takes place after the first film. Here's the actual summary:
When a mysterious EMP event brings down the InGen helicopter carrying the survivors of Isla Nublar, those six people must learn to live, work, and survive together if they're to have any hope of making it out of Costa Rica alive, let alone in anything resembling one piece. They quickly learn that other desperate humans are by far the least of their worries.
It's pretty good! A little more simplistic a writing style, but I like it all the same. Very angsty and lots of dark stuff, so...suits me well.
49. What are you currently working on? Share a few lines if you’re up for it!
I'm trying to work on my Cobb Vanth WIP, though I'm also outlining a Jurassic Park one-shot based on Untherius's other works (Thanatocene). Here's a little bit from each:
Cobb Vanth WIP:
There’s sand in his hair. Always is. Always more than he’d prefer. If he survives whatever the hell is currently going on and lives long enough to take a trip offworld, it’ll feel strange not to have to wash the dust from his body.
This is what Cobb tells himself as he shrugs out of his shirt and unlatches the panel over the mechanics of his shoulder, blowing dust off of it like someone would the end of an old slugthrower after firing a round at a man.
Bray’s sitting on the couch, seemingly resting, when the Marshal heads into the ‘fresher, and he dearly hopes that he stays there.
Because Cobb needs to clean the grit from both the trigger and barrel of his blaster, too. It’s been a few days since the last time, and he’s never been quite keen on letting it sit around for too long; makes the old thing as temperamental as his speeder- and that’s not entirely ideal when he’s got a man with murder on the mind in his home.
Jurassic Park WIP (attempting to mimic the original author's simplistic writing style, don't mind me):
They see the smoke and smell the putrid scent of death and decay long before they see the mob of what their little clan has come to call the Dead. They’re on a hill when they spot the gathering near a distant, burning town.
They stare. Tim and Lex huddle closer to Grant. Ian frowns and rubs at his arm.
“Where did they come from?” Ellie whispers.
In that same moment, a screech sounds from overhead, back behind them. There’s hardly any time to blink before the shadow whooshes by, blotting out the sun for the briefest instant.
The lone pterosaur dives upon the milling undead and snatches one up before it flies away.
“Uh, I think I know.” Ian says.
Hammond, for once, looks like he truly regrets his rebirthing of dinosaurs.
50. Answer any question of your choice, or talk about anything you want to talk about!
1. What fic of yours would you recommend to someone who had never read any of your work? (In other words, what do you think is the best introduction to your fics?)
Hold Your Breath, Give Your Strength from my Bad Batch series. It's complete and utter angst, mixed in with flashbacks in the first half to explain some of the unknown stuff. I'm fond of flashbacks. And very much so of angst. I just love how twisted this fic is. It's so dark.
Tech and Echo are sitting in the Marauder's hold, on Anaxes. A cybernetic leg sits across the engineer’s lap, only halfway put together. The ARC trooper watches as he works.
“You’re pretty…good at this.” Echo mentions.
“Oh, this is not my first time reconstructing a cybernetic limb.”

The Difference one Woman can make.
Late Friday night in June, we had stopped for a burger on the way to the cinema, we used to do family movie nights at the cinema when a new film came out that the majority of us wanted to watch, this time I was the one who was reluctant to go, sadly we do this significantly less now.  So, stubborn 2015 me, rolling her eyes and dragging her feet up the cinema steps to find our seats to watch the new Jurassic World movie. Pathetic! I thought, why pay money to watch a movie about a dinosaur theme park! My parents had completely lost it! Huffing and puffing I took my seat on the aisle and sipped my blue raspberry slushie and looked up at the big screen. Ugh! I wanted it to be over, quickly. I sat down and shut my mouth, despite not wanting to watch it, I wasn’t going to spoil it for the others; but I didn’t get why they would want to watch it, I watched the trailer before going, was not impressed, it looked dumb!
However, as much as my pre-Jurassic self would not like, I found who I was during that movie, I discovered a whole new admiration for actors and movies. I found that I related to the main female protagonist, Claire Dearing. She did not need a man, or children, she was so focused on her career and let no one boss her around. She was top dog, and I completely fell for this fictional character. I evolved through that movie with her character, I felt content with being a strong female who put career over family. I wanted to embody this fictional woman; I wanted to be her.
On the journey home I typed ‘Claire Dearing actress’ into google and saw this stunning redhead- Bryce Dallas Howard. I immediately recognised her from movies I had watched prior, and I was completely astounded at her range of characters she can portray and portray them well. After scrolling through her Wiki page and reading news articles about her, I learned that she is the daughter of Ron Howard, one of my parents’ favourite people in film.
“Dad, that woman in the movie is Ron Howard's daughter”, I needed to inform my family that my now favourite woman in film is the daughter of my parents’ favourite people in film. My parents were shocked that I enjoyed the movie despite my loud vocalisation of not wanting to watch it.
Googling ‘Bryce Dallas Howard’ became my new after school routine, learning that she applied to acting school as Bryce Dallas to avoid people knowing she is the daughter of an already famous actor and director, and she had met her true love at nineteen and is still happily married to him. Yet what most stuck out to the self-conscious, body hating 2015 me, was that Bryce wasn’t a skinny twig of a woman that you see in most movies, she had classy curves and promoted body positivity despite some backlash the media gave her. I made a connection with this woman I had never met because I too received negative comments about my figure, yet Bryce took that on the shoulder and learned to love herself. I wanted to feel that self-love about myself that she acquired.
After watching Jurassic World, I explored many more fandoms, and from there I became obsessed with movie franchises and TV shows, actors and directors. I could not give you a full list of all of the fandoms I am in, there are too many to count, and they have all played a role in helping me evolve to who I am today. All because I latched onto one character from one movie I did not even want to watch, one film got me hooked on this life: it’s like a drug. I cannot stop. I also went back and forth with my hairstyle due to this woman; in the movie Bryce has a stunning ginger graduated bob with a fringe, however I never had the guts to go ginger until now; shame the hairdressers are all shut.
Now, almost six years later Bryce Dallas Howard has had great success in directing two episodes of The Mandalorian. Over the Christmas break I watched the show with my dad, sat on the sofa, fire lit, the chocolate Labrador curled up between us, peach vodka and diet lemonade in my hand, hot cup of tea in my dad’s. We binge watched both seasons in a week (it’s amazing) and he was shocked to see ‘Directed by Bryce Dallas Howard’ at the end of one, let alone two episodes. “Shit, she’s come far in the past few years” he said putting another episode on.
Bryce allowed me to find my best friend, Iz, through Instagram; Bryce has brought so many people together it is so surreal. And when I found out that Iz was going to Southampton University in 2019, a 20-minute drive from my house, I was finally able to meet her, because of one woman we both adore. I was friends with Iz for three years before I was able to meet her, I asked my school friend to come along with me so she could film the moment Iz, and I met! We got pancakes and watched the second Maleficent movie at the cinema, it was one of the best days of my life. I was so thankful that I met a truly hilarious and loving girl through this one actress! Because of Bryce Dallas Howard, I have made so many other friends from all over the globe as they too idolise Bryce and together we have created the ‘BDH online family’. A small group of us do regular zoom calls to catch up and chat about the recent photos and updates that Bryce has posted on Instagram, talk about Covid-19 and the types of restrictions and lockdown rules each of our countries has. During one of our calls, we had the craziest idea- Invite Bryce to one of our zoom calls. Bryce said yes! And after a few months of organisation, we had the date. The date was-
My.
Birthday.
The day came around and I was so nervous, it was 11pm exactly. The Wi-Fi had cut out fifteen minutes before the call. I was in tears. Mascara down my face, puffy eyes, I joined the call with a few minutes to spare before Bryce joined it. My mum hung around off camera for the first 5 minutes to double check the Wi-Fi was stable, luckily it stabilised. The other girls had never been so glad to see me, everyone was panicked for me; I could not miss it for the world (despite telling my parents, in floods of tears, that I cannot join and that it’s the end of that).
“Kat! You’re here!” “Happy birthday!” “Are you okay? The Wi-Fi sorted?”
They all chimed, happy to see my little face in the bottom right corner of their computer screens. Luckily Iz was there, otherwise it would have been extremely awkward with only one of us since we are known as a duo in the online family, we have to do everything together, we come in a pair and there can’t just be one of us.
“Shit girls, that was stressful”
I hadn’t realised I was holding my breath until I exhaled the large breath when my    Wi-Fi settled, and I was on the call, I fixed my makeup and was ready to meet Bryce.
The few minutes we had before Bryce joined were intense, two of the girls left to get a drink and we weren’t sure if they would be back in time, luckily they did return.
“No way!” One of them, Anna who was hosting the call, gasped “Bryce is in the waiting room!”
We all freak for no more than 10 seconds, we compose ourselves then our faces are reshuffled, and we see this stunning glowing face that we all admire smiling at us. Omg, it's her.
“Hi girls!”
I have never smiled for so long in my entire life, my cheeks hurt afterwards. Don’t get me wrong, I am not complaining at all, it just hurt as I thought I would only be smiling for half an hour, since that is how long we were told Bryce had. However, we were speaking to Bryce for nearly an hour and a half, she just kept talking and asked us questions! She was so lovely to talk to, so relaxed; it was if I was talking to a friend that I had known for years!
“Before we go I want to all sing Kat a happy birthday!”
My idol wanted to sing me a happy birthday! The other girls were really ecstatic for me, I still can’t believe to this day that The Bryce Dallas Howard wanted to sing to me!
It was both the best and the worst happy birthday song that has be sung to me. It was the best because, well my idol was singing to me! And proposed the singing! It was the worst in terms of the actual song as they were all out of sync and lagging, it was bloody hilarious!
At 10:27pm the next evening, watching a rerun of Game of Thrones on Sky, I got a notification ‘Brycedhoward just posted’, I clicked the notification then see our smiling faces on her page, she posted a screenshot of our call on her social media! The call was supposed to be a secret so other fans weren’t upset. There’s a few snotty comments on the post, but they’re just jealous and to be frank, I don’t care! My smiley face is on her page forever! All ten of us have printed the screenshot of Bryce’s post off and put it in a frame, one day all ten of us hope to congregate somewhere, most likely in America, and sign the backs of all of our photos. I’m still in utter awe and shock-  How many celebrities have you seen that would do a free zoom call with some fans? Not a lot, and that amount is even slimmer when they talk for an extra hour than scheduled. Bryce truly is one of a kind and the best idol anyone could ever hope to have.
Compared to a zoom call with Bryce herself, the few times she has liked my comments on her posts feel like nothing in comparison! I remember being so excited, running downstairs to my parents.
“Mum! Dad! Bryce liked my comment! She knows I exist!”
“Was it actually her? Remember when you got a Facebook request from Robert Downey Jr and it turned out it was a fake account?”
I rolled my eyes at her, it was Bryce, it was her verified account. The comment was a book recommendation I had for her, she posted on her hashtag BDHbookshelf and I thought I’d take a chance and comment a book recommendation I had for her, and the chance paid off.
I cannot wait to see what the future holds with Bryce, she has been such an inspiration to me for the past few years, and she promotes such wonderful causes and body positivity! I hope to one day meet her and thank her in person for changing my life for the better, and I think I’ve come up with the perfect opportunity to meet her- Iz and I have decided to travel up to London for the Jurassic World Dominion premiere in 2022 (if Covid lets us!), we’d get a hotel and actually meet Bryce in person, as well as meeting other members of the online family!
Words cannot fully contain the admiration that I possess for Bryce, her soul is utterly and truly exquisite, she has been such a visionary while I’ve been transitioning from a girl who had no idea who she was with no dreams or aspirations, to a woman who has now found so many new friends and now knows who she wants to be.

Holy crap this episode was funny as hell until it wasn't and then we were plunged right back into the intensity. But great episode!!! I don't lb so I don't get spoilers but man I had a lot of reactions as I watched. Ngl, a lot of cursing and caps ahead but damn was this such a good episode:
“One minute before the blackout” - now we’re to 1 minute from 1 week last week
“The place where this heart’s from, it was a tragedy. But once we land, it’s gonna turn into a miracle, right?” “Yeah, I like that” -- so once we land and settle after all of this craziness, a tragedy will turn into a miracle? I like that *looking at you Eddie*
EDDIE GET OUT OF THAT CHOPPER RN, DO NOT DO THIS TO ME AFTER SEASON 4, DO NOT!!!
Bobby going in to save the heart, hmm...
Oh, thank God - Eddie, Hen, and Bobby are all safe
Dr. Salazar - we need more of her. I love her so much.
4 Days later - hmm...
Wow, they’re really bringing Harry to the forefront here, this whole kidnapping thing is going to happen isn't it?
Harry charging neighbors and Michael and David in a sort of co-parent situation - first of all, Harry you are a GENIUS and love that Michael and David with Harry are being focused on in this episode, ahem, is there possibly a reason...?
Lou survived!!!! THANK GOD
Nearly 5 days Lou was in hospital
5 day head start for Hudson - is there something with 1, 3, 4 and now 5? I'm keeping track here, Tim
Buck is the power czar LOL - omg I love this man so much
Ravi!!! We need MORE Ravi!!! but where is Albert???
CHIMNEY!!!!! OMG I LOVE YOU - "Give me a charger or Uncle Buck will never see his niece again" - "Give him a charger" - "Well played" - "Let this be a lesson, never give that man a clipboard" - "Excuse me for being efficient" - "That’s one word for what you are" - okay #1 I will forever be in love with Chimney, probably one of my top favorite characters on this show & #2 LOVE this whole brothers interaction, Albert may not be there but Buck and Chim are still going with the whole older-brother-is-exasperated-with-the-younger-brother's-shit vibe
Oh God, here comes more cringe, yay... not so much
Eddie kisses Ana on the cheek AGAIN (Eddie, can you hear me? This is your subconscious speaking, when are you going to end this, my man?)
Ana says going to visit was Christopher’s idea since he missed Eddie and thought he was hungry - muy interesante
Buck rushing over to greet Christopher and hugging him tight is a moment I live for - outside of the whole Buck and Eddie story, I LOVE this relationship with all of my heart, I am so glad Christopher has Buck, he really is his second dad (with or without Eddie being involved)
Eddie not introducing Ana to Ravi (nor Buck saying hi) - Buck’s expression - “You must be Eddie’s wife” Christopher: “Not yet” I FUCKING LOVE THIS KID, OKAY!!!! Buck’s smile, he loves Christopher, too - love how Ana and Eddie don't say anything to dispel or clarify this
SAME FUCKING TRIGGER AND THIS TIME BUCK SEES IT!!!! OMG (Eddie, this is your subconscious again, you need to listen! The universe and I are trying to tell you something, please before any more shit hits the fan like me having to watch more uncomfortable interactions between you and your placeholder friend!)
Eddie sending Ana and Christopher on a tour with Ravi IN THE DARK at his work place so he can put SALADS AWAY
Buck’s expressions the entire time - Buck knows something's up
Ana’s expressions the entire time - she KNOWS
Thank God Bobby wasn’t around - hear me out, I have a reason for this that I am still working on in this long ass meta
Buck makes sure to not make eye contact with Ana (except quickly when Ravi is waiting to be introduced), even when Ana laughs at his “Constantly”
Eddie being a probie when Shannon came back in season 2 (and Eddie pulled her into the locker room to talk) & Ana being left to tour the station house with Ravi aka Probie - hello parallels & contrasts, my old friend
“I don’t want these things to wilt” - interesting choice of wording there, Eddie (newsflash, it's already wilting, Eddie)
I almost feel a little bad for Ana here because she did do something nice and she gets the brushoff and some discomfort/embarrassment in return (I mean the woman brought three salads in the middle of a blackout that she most likely made herself, come on - I'm sure some people think salads are easy to make but to those of us in the inexperienced/uninitiated cooks' club, it's not that simple)
Lila dead - hmm...are we surprised? (Hudson didn't give a fig about her and what's sad is Lou would have saved her)
“I think she was smitten like those other fools. I think she saw him being led away in cuffs and she intervened on his behalf” - interesting line there, Athena...
I need more scenes with Athena and Elaine - I know Elaine is the captain and Athena is on her own with no partner but I gotta say I am enjoying this
Athena! Why are you not warning the survivors!!! I mean I get it but still!!!
OMG “He takes Christopher all the time, he’s got the place memorized” - BUCK LISTENED TO EDDIE IN 3x03 - OMG!!!
Oh Buck my poor baby, he knows what they’re walking into - I LOVE Hen’s line of “Just smile, Buck” and then Eddie and Chim both smile wide at him - OMG I AM LIVING FOR THESE SCENES WITH THE 118
“Welcome to the Jungle” - nice touch 911
OMG Buck you are cracking me up - no animals are getting past him
1 hawk or eagle or raptor maybe? I’m not good with bird species okay!!!
3 emus again
1 bird I have no idea what kind (wondering if that’s what we saw the back of last episode near the emus)
Giraffe again
3 wolves
3 camels
Elephant
“The animal makes a move, control it” - YOU GOT THIS BUCK (yes we are finally getting that scene we saw filmed!!!)
Buck’s expression when the camel runs by is KILLING ME 'yeah, that's right Camel, back up, back up, you don't want any of this, yeah that's right'
Stuffed animals in the souvenir store, interesting
2 for $5 sign - even more interesting
1 alpaca
I guess I kind of wonder why Hen didn’t become a vet at one point in her life? Like I’m glad she’s a first responder and about to be a doctor but damn she knows so much about animals, she’s like the 118’s resident animal expert, that’s my girl
“We were gonna get one” - um...what? Hen...
“I wouldn’t” LOL oh Bobby you slay me
Is it just me or do we hear ET almost type music in the background as Hen lays chips down for the alpaca? Bobby mentioning the Reese’s Pieces, the flashlight shining on the Alpaca when it steps into view...are we getting an ET reference?
“It’s calling its friend!” *another Alpaca appears through coats “Clever girl” - a Jurassic Park reference - It’s a fucking Steven Spielberg reference, holy shit!!!!
Okay so that scene was Eddie looking over at Bobby, got it, near the fire trucks
Oh Buck I love you so much “So you ran from an Alpaca?” “Two Alpacas and no one was running” - both Buck’s and Eddie’s faces and then laughter are freaking hilarious
Chimney: “After careful consideration, I have decided not to endorse this park” - OMG I have not stopped laughing for like five minutes straight, can you imagine a Jurassic Park AU for this team? - shot of T-rex above Ripley’s Believe It Or Not (nice one, 911)
Weird looking bird that I've never seen before and 2 emus and 2 vulture, 1 hawk/raptor bird, 1 rhino
May is awesome!!! And so are those neighbors!!!!
Eddie in the tank top!!! Buck with a clipboard!!!
“Hey are you sleeping or just pretending?” Buck is taking no prisoners today
Buck is trying to make sure he’s not having any symptoms, omg, seriously how do you not love this guy???? Eddie you better make an honest man out of him soon, I'm not sure how much longer I can take this
“You don’t give up, do you?” Oh Eddie you did not just say that, to Buck of all people, come on man (hello season 3 Eddie, my old friend)
Get him, Buck! Get him!
“Since when do you panic?” “That’s what I said, I don’t panic” Buck once again out there proving that he knows Eddie better than anyone else
Oh wow!!! Eddie came right out and said it “If I’m being honest with myself I think it was Ana”
And there it is folks “She’s been a constant through all of this, staying with Christopher”
“Somehow we became a ready made family and I don’t know if I’m ready for that” - wow, this is an excellent scene, he’s totally letting that wall down to talk candidly with Buck, nice - and him being stripped down to a tank top for this scene just reiterates that fact, he's baring some things
“I think I’m gonna stick it out. Ana’s the first woman I’ve wanted to spend this much time with since Shannon” - oh Eddie, you really need to shit or get off the pot my friend, this isn’t good for you, Christopher or Ana - how can you sentence all three of you to this? come on
“My kid loves her” but YOU DON'T - okay my heart is breaking, Eddie is making the same goddamn mistake all over again just like we predicted - Eddie please, what did Carla just say to you three episodes ago? Where the hell is Carla btw????
“Stick it out? That’s not the way you talk about someone you’re in love with” “That enough?” - thank you Buck, seriously THANK YOU
Okay my heart just broke again but for Buck this time “Eddie, I have been Ana” - aww =( I love my chaotic firefighter son with all of my heart
And of course Denial!Eddie aka repressed!Eddie are back, sigh - 5x03 has to be where it all comes to a head, it has to be, now even Buck is forcing him to face what he's trying so hard not to - word of advice Eddie, my repressed firefighter son, you can try to deny it mentally/emotionally all you want but it will come out one way or another, just like it's coming out in panic attack symptoms and anxiety - you have to end this, sweetie
And I think it’s very interesting that Eddie looks right at Buck during “If I’m being honest with myself” *looks away then right back at Buck* “I think it was Ana”, “staying with Christopher”, then right after “I don’t know if I’m ready for that”, “I think I’m gonna stick it out”, “Ana’s the first woman I’ve wanted to spend this much time with since Shannon” “My kid loves her”
OMG Eddie’s expression when Buck says “I know what it’s like to be in love with someone who’s not all the way in and deep down you know it and it hurts. It hurts worse than the truth” — RYAN WHERE IS YOUR GODDAMN EMMY??? If anyone ever doubted that Eddie was in love with Buck, there’s the freaking proof written all over Eddie’s face at Buck’s line!!! It’s not something he thinks he can have and it hurts
Okay seriously, Eddie saying “Ana’s the first woman I’ve wanted to spend this much time with Shannon” — VERY PURPOSEFUL MENTION OF A WOMAN HE’S WANTED TO SPEND TIME WITH, EDDIE PLEASE, CAN YOU HEAR ME!!!!
Then they go right to Chim calling Maddie, uh huh, I see you 911
I really love Hen’s full support of Maddie btw & I love how Chim is able to talk to Hen about it all
Oh no!!! Maddie please don’t fall asleep!!!
Oh thank God!!!! It’s going to be okay, Maddie, you got her, it’s going to be okay - I seriously want to give my girl a hug and tell her it's going to be okay
Omg Jee-Yun is so cute!!!
Day 4 or day 5 hmmm - I'm still keeping track, Tim
“Why is it every time the world ends, it ends some more?” “It just keeps us on our toes” “More like knocks us on our asses” - Universe is that you?
Awww Bobby just called Athena “baby” <3 I'm not crying, you're crying
YES more Athena and Elaine
Lou is awake!!!!
Awww Lou =( I may or may not be ugly crying rn
I cannot tell you how relieved I am that Lou is alive
Oh God!!!! Athena get the cops there now!!!!
Yeah you should have let Harry charge them Michael lol, of course they were there to just use the generator power (though I love and appreciate the contrast they gave us in the neighbors who helped the boy with the ventilator so we know not all people take advantage)
OH NO GET AWAY FROM HARRY YOU BASTARD!!!!
On a side note, it’s nice to see more Michael and David but at what cost, Tim? Can we please get more of them and especially David in a more lighthearted episode for crying out loud? Is that too much to ask???
Go Bobby!!!!
Good for you, Athena!!!
Omg this is practically Athena’s nightmare come to life, shit
Omg Hudson unplugged the goddamn generator, THAT FUCKING ASSHOLE!!!
HARRY!!!!!!
I’M SORRY BUT ARE YOU TELLING ME THERE’S NO BOLO WITH A PICTURE ON THIS GUY?!!? - oh right, no power, but STILL
Okay that was super intense, I really hope Athena is the one to take Hudson down, just like Bobby said
I have a few more rewatches to do before breaking things down but damn, I think I need a drink after that one.

where would you rank Camp Cretaceous in the Jurassic Park/World franchise?
It’s its own beast, because shows give you unprecedented leeway for character development and action scenes, and the budget and pacing are all different.
There are a few scenes and moments that I would honestly put into the Top 10 ______ of the franchise in multiple categories (Sammy’s scene with the Sinoceratops is possibly the best herbivore scene in the franchise, and the T. Rex finding them under the table is one of the best horror/suspense moments...), but the characters themselves are pretty much universally superior to 95% of the characters in the main franchise (but, again: Camp Cretaceous is 5-6 hours of screentime, so it’s already two movies long, and any Camp Cretaceous kid’s screentime already dwarfs that of the movie characters, so they’re just...better built than the ones who need to be Characters You Can Understand in Five Minutes).
Tranq gun to my head, though...ummmm...probably 3rd. Definitely better than Fallen Kingdom and JP3. More expanded than Big Rock. I find it hard to put it up against TLW as far as overall scenes...but, nah, it takes it. Definitely third place, minimum.
It might be the best thing JP has put out, though, OUTSIDE OF THE PRACTICAL EFFECTS AND ANIMATRONICS AND TECHNICAL PIONEERING OF THE FIRST FILM and the imaginative reboot of the fourth movie...it definitely feels like the Entry That Most Realizes the Franchise’s Potential, though. Dinosaur poachers, hiding in abandoned buildings, moral decisions, interpreting animal behavior, ganging up to fight dinosaurs, riding dinosaurs...everything you could ever want from Jurassic is in this show.
....sorry I got long-winded. XD

Happy 90th birthday John Williams!!
To pay a tribute to this greatest composer among composers, here my own top 90 (maybe, under construction, cause you know, it’s quite long to organize and write down, and, above all, I’m a lazy lazy boy).
1. Welcome to Jurassic Park (from “Jurassic Park”): from the very beginning, with the piano, this piece sums up the power of his music. I’ve not grown up with the film, but when I saw it for the first time, maybe two years ago, I got immediately struck by a deep sensation of nostalgia, as though I always knew this fantastic prehistoric adventure in my heart. That’s the effect this peculiar ost still has on me, memories I do recognize as being recently fabricated but with the strong warmth of a kind of eternal inner truth that was waiting for its awakening through a sensitive, musical experience.
2. Call of the Crystal (from “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull”): I’ve never understood the mainstream hatred this film still provokes, even though it tends to be more balanced nowadays. I mean, yes there is extraterrestrial with UFO, but, meh, don’t remember the Lost Ark that contains fate spirits who actually kills nazis? On a very accurate disturbing music. This is clearly not a relevant point to bash the film, it goes the same for its music. Williams was way more inspired in 2009 than for the last Trilogy of Star Wars. This theme proves it. It perfectly depicts the deep mystery that’s surrounding the so-called Crystal Skull, the repetition of string motif, the crescendo led in two parts with a central wind reflection that could represents Irina Spalko herself, the high pitch voice that emerges in the middle, all this features contributes to display the eerie atmosphere we bathe all through the film. The scene with Spalko in the tent shows us the greatest danger about an unknown unlimited power is always mankind itself: her fanatic totalitarian speech spouses the gloomy fascination this music provoked in our innermost feelings and thoughts. Finally, ain’t it the power of music itself, this limitless ancient power that is to be wielded with infinite precaution? But, eh, nothing to worry about, John totally tames the beast!
3. Star of Bethlehem (Orchestra Version, from “Home Alone”): perfect depiction of the magic atmosphere Willams masters in films that are family-friendly, plus some epic moments whose accents may evoke scores form Indiana Jones and foreshadow Star Wars III, in my very humble opinion.
4. The Next Morning / Mom Returns and Finale (from “Home Alone”): the sweet leitmotif that accompanies the reunion of the mother and his son never fails to make me melt like chocolate.
5. Adventures on Earth (from “E.T., the Extra-Terrestrial”): the spontaneity of strings spouses this unforgettable story that inhabits dreams of all little boy, in their age as well as in their mind!
6. Imperial Starfleet Deployed / City In the Clouds (from “Star Wars V: The Empire Strikes Back”): first apparence of Star Wars in the list, hurray! I’ve discovered a genuine preference for the ost of this film. For long time it was rather the IV’s. But here we have the demonstration of a brillant narration through music, first the imminent danger of the landing on Bespin with low and dark themes, and then the sublime contemplation of the magnificent city hanged in the sky personified by a brief voice of soprano. It is the first time Willams uses such a tremendous instrument, the human voice, 1980. And he not generally relies on it in his further compositions, but when he decides to do so, what an event, what a blissful delight! We know Holst plays an important role in William’s score, for example the sharp notes of “Mars, the Bringer of War” in the introduction of the IV, but here we have a more subtle reference, I think, to “Neptune, the Mystic” with the women choir that emerges and sings ethereal waves until the end of the piece, like a far far away echo going further and further in the distant space, maybe it finally manages to reach Neptune, who knows?
7. The Battle of Hoth (from “Star Wars V: The Empire Strikes Back”): along with Battle of Yavin and Battle of Endor, from IV and VI, that immediately come after this one, this is an impressive large-scale musical sequence with the remarkable intervention of the piano in the middle that confirms he creates a one of a kind style in the V, compared to the two others.
8. The Battle of Yavin (from “Star Wars IV: A New Hope”): we can clearly hear the peplum spirit in this one, large brass sections, epic themes that ever go till the final victory, the sharp notes come back at the end with the destruction of the Death Star, which achieves a cycle opened in the introduction by the same notes. Brillant narration, again.
9. The Battle of Endor II (from “Star Wars VI: The Return of Jedi”): this one contains undoubtedly the most thrilling twist of events of the whole cinema history. The uphill battle that pits good against evil trough the Emperor’a theme plays by brass and the tremendous male choir that seems to emerge form the very depths of darkness to intimidate characters and spectators as well as it gives an brief but convincing impression of a man, the Emperor, who embodies a very ancient and everlasting source of demise and corruption. Always chilled when I listen to it!
10. The Temple of Doom (from “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom”): first of all, reminder that this film was extraordinary violent and explicit for that time, 1984, and for that type of entertainment, a rather family-friendly aventure franchise, moreover with Spielberg as director. Before the release of the fourth film in 2009, this one was the less appreciated of the whole trilogy. Personally, it’s my favorite for its more “realistic” background around the Thugs who actually existed in India until the 20th century, and who actually worshiped Kali through killing contracts, since they were a sect of assassins. History sceneries, antagonists and music of course, this film is unfairly underrated to me. This peculiar composition plays during the most terrific scene that causes the creation of the PG-13 rating, along the Gremlins the same year. Here John relies on percussions and tribal choirs which represents the hectic frenzy of the Thugs attending a sacrificial ceremony during which a heart is to be ripped off a prisoner before he gets merged into lava to burn alive. The rythme and crescendo of the singing follows the progressive horror both the powerless spectators and the protagonists are witnessing till the accomplishment of the unspeakable. The disturbing feminine sounding voice at the very end could be the word of Kali herself, word that gets reinforced by the collective chanting vowels going up louder and louder, as though there was no physical nor moral limit in this cathartic, dangerous assessment of existence.

Get to know me
Read more if you wanna know.. (Reposted from @y-not-loki)

Ateez saying something hurtful to their s/o (2/2)
❦ Genre: Angst.
❦ Pairing: OT8.
❦ Word count: Around 2k.
❦ Masterlist.
Part 1
SAN
Tumblr media
San and you were dating for 6 months. You were really close. Sharing the same braincell sometimes. As a couple, you got your good and hard times. Especially when San was jealous. You knew how to comfort him but this time, you didn’t want to.
It was summer, it means the time of parties. Ateez were invited to Oneus Summer Party. San invited you, you were his girlfriend. He knew you could have a good time, dancing, singing. As a party you wanted to look pretty for your man. So, you choose a black skinny dress and white sneakers. It was 9 pm when you hear a knock at your door. You took your jacket and opened the door. “Hi babe.” Said San. He couldn’t leave his eyes from you. But didn’t said anything, except “ready to go?” “Yes! You look gorgeous San-ie!” he nodded and went back to the car were all the members were waiting for you. When you entered the car, all their eyes were on you. “Oh, wow Y/N! You are so pretty!” Yelled Wooyoung. “Thank you!” You giggled. The rest of the road was funny, all the boys were excited. But you noticed that San was a bit distant. Maybe there was something in his mind. You’ll asked when both of you would be alone. The car stopped and the boys rushed to the big house in front of you. Oneus was not joking with this party. You saw San walking in front of you with Wooyoung and Xion. You bowed to the host and thanked him for the invitation. You heard the music being louder, everyone was shouting. Ravn with a mic in his hand, “THE PARTY CAN BEGIN!!” You joined Ateez on the dancefloor. They managed to attire all the attention because of their amazing moves. You watched your boyfriend, he was killing it. He was really enjoying dancing and singing. This career was made for him. After few minutes of dance, you find a way out of the crowd. It was hot and intense. Water was needed. You went to the bar, asking “Hi can I get a virgin Mojito?” “Yes of course, pretty lady.” Complimented you the bartender. You blushed lightly. One thought crossed your mind. Everyone said that you were pretty, but your boyfriend didn’t. Maybe he didn’t like the dress. You started to over-think when the bartender gave you your glass. “Here’s your virgin-Mojito, beautiful.” “Thank you.” You started to walk out of the bar when he said, “Can I get your number at least? I don’t want to miss the opportunity to talk with you again.” Before you have enough time to say no, you heard San voice. “Sorry but she’s taken.” Putting his hand on your waist. The other guy said sorry and went back to his work. Your boyfriend was leading you to a quiet corner. “Ouch, San! You are hurting me.” His grips on your waist was strong. He was definitively pissed. “Can you stop being so flirty with everyone?” He whispered to you. You could barely hear him because of the loud music, but his words were loud and hurtful into your heart. “What? I was just taking my cocktail, I- don’t-.” “I know how you are when you are flirting with someone!” Moving closer to your face. “No, you don’t! I wasn’t flirting with this guy!” He scoffed, “And why did you choose this dress then? It’s so short! Everyone can look at you!” You sighed, San was jealous, once again. You know now why he didn’t say anything about your outfit since he came to your house. “I wanted to look pretty for you, San-ie…” you gripped his arms slowly for comfort him. But you didn’t expect him to push you lightly. “This dress is a problem! I can’t handle it. And why are you so flirty? Why are you so easy?” You looked at him, shocked. How dare he? You just wanted to slap him, but it won’t help to fix this situation. “Okay then bye.” That’s the only words you could say at the moment. You couldn’t believe your ears. San was always happy when you made yourself pretty for him. And to be honest, you wore few skirts shorter than this dress at your dates. Angrily, you exited the party and walked towards your house. Hopefully that wasn’t too far.
MINGI
Tumblr media
Mingi and you were good friends, well before his debut in Ateez. You both know that you have feeling each other but kind of feel shy about it. You crossed the lines many times, exchanged kisses but doing like nothing happened 1 minute later. Since the Wonderland comeback, Mingi was feeling alone and depressed because of his back pain. You decided to take care of him. But he doesn’t see this like you.
You texted Mingi for prevent that you will be at Ateez dorm in 10 minutes with a lot of movies. You received a simple “ok” 1 minute later. You couldn’t stop thinking about your friend being alone day and night since Ateez was promoting Wonderland in Korea and overseas. He told you that everything was okay, but you know how he likes to be with his team and Atinys. When you knocked at the door dorm, you weren’t expecting him to open this fast. Was he waiting for you? “Hi Mingi!” you smiled at him. “Hi Y/N. It’s been a while.” As he stepped back to let you enter in the apartment. You giggled, “I’ve been here yesterday!”. “I know but it’s long here without you.” You pushed him softly, “such a playboy” you thought. “I took good movies for us tonight!” you almost yelled from excitement. You take out all the DVDs of your bag. “Jurassic Park, Narnia, Glass...” As he looks at the cover, “Good choices Y/N.” You smiled, proud of you. You went to the kitchen for prepare the popcorn, as always. You opened all the cupboard to find the pack but nothing. “Mingi where’s the popcorn?” as you entered back to the living-room seeing your friend busy with the TV. “On the top of the fridge, I’ll help you to get it.” He stood up from the couch, but you shouted at him. “No! Think of your back, I’ll get it!” He sighed, “I can do it, it’s not high.” You put yourself between Mingi and the fridge, “No! I’ll take a chair and do it by myself!” He massaged his temple. Pissed. But you didn’t care. He needed to rest. “You can go back to the TV, I’ll be here in 5 minutes!” He hummed and left the kitchen. You took a chair and reached the popcorn on the fridge. “Don’t dare to start before me Song Mingi!” you threatened your friend. He was mad. You know it. Mingi was never silent with you except when something bothers him. After few minutes, you went back to the living-room, sitting next to him. He was on his phone, scrolling on Twitter. He loved to see Atiny’s posts, with his fake account, even follow one of them sometimes. You played the movie. He chose Narnia. You were already at the scene were the kid meet the Icy Queen, when you saw that Mingi wasn’t paying any attention to the movie. Still on his phone. “Are Atinys saying interesting things? You are not leaving your phone.” As you grab few popcorns. He hummed again. You started to be annoyed. He can be mad of course, but you were just trying to help him. Like that he could go back to Ateez, fast as possible. You put back your concentration on the movie. 30 minutes later, you noticed that he was still on his phone. Playing candy crush. “Mingi if you wanted to be alone, you could just tell me before I came here.” You said frustrated. For the first time since the movie started, he paid attention to you. “I don’t know what you mean.” “You are not watching the movie.” As you pointed the phone on his hands. “Oh, now I can’t use my phone? I can’t help you to reach popcorn and now this?” You scoffed, “what the heck are you talking about? You’re really mad because-“. “I can do it by myself Y/N! Stop doing everything for me like I was an incapable!” he tossed at you. “You are always here telling me what I cannot do because of my damn back!” “Mingi… I-I” “You what Y/N? If you can’t at least make me relax then leave! I don’t need you here.” You heard enough. You knew he didn’t mean it, but it hurts you to hear that when you just want to be someone who brings him joy. You threw the blanket at him, packed back your stuff and exited the dorm.
WOOYOUNG
Tumblr media
Wooyoung were your boyfriend for 4 years. You were close before Ateez debuted. You always here with him for every big step of his life. For example, when he auditioned for KQ Entertainment because Yeosang was going there too. When he met the members of Ateez for the first time. When they released their first album. Or when they got their first win. You were with him more than you two could think. Maybe that was a problem.
It was late, Ateez was filming the last scene of their new MV Wonderland. All the marching band was there. It was amazing. You couldn’t remove your eyes from your boyfriend, Wooyoung. He was doing is best. When the music stopped, you heard the director saying that they did a real good job. All the group went to the staff for fix their make-up and their hair for the photo shoot. “You were awesome guys! Atinys would love it for sure!” you said to them. “Thank you, Y/N!” smiled Hongjoong. “Wooyoung!” you almost ran to your boyfriend. “What?” That was cold. Maybe he was tired, it was 2 am. At least that’s what you hoped. “You were amazing!” “Thank you, Y/N.” he said and went to the staff without saying anything. Your eyes couldn’t leave him. What was happening. The distance that he put between him and you, isn’t normal. You tried again to talk to Wooyoung. “Wooyoung are you okay?” He sighed, “Yes Y/N, I’m fine. Don’t you have anything to do?” You looked at your boyfriend again “what do you mean? I came to cheer you and the guys, like-.” “I didn’t ask you to come this time.” He put his hands in his hair angrily, but it was so hot. “If you don’t want me there, then just tell me!” you shouted at him. You could feel all the stare on Wooyoung and you. You hated to argue with him in public. But his behavior was strange. “You are so distant tonight, what’s happening to you?” “I’m distant because you are so clingy! Can I breathe without you being around?” he yelled at you. For the first time in 4 years of relationship, he screamed at you. You just wanted to hide in a hole for the rest of your life. Sadly, he added, “You are always there, I can’t make a move without you being near!” He couldn’t add a word that you threw his coat on the floor, “Then bye, I won’t be around all of you anymore!”. You gripped the necklace that he gave you for your 2nd anniversary and threw it with his coat. He looked shook, but that’s what he deserved, you thought. You gave back the coat that one of a make-up staff gave you because of the cold, bowed to the team and went back to the street to find a taxi. For sure, it was the last time, you’ll saw Wooyoung in your life.
JONGHO
Tumblr media
As the maknae, Jongho were reserved. Always listening to his hyungs. When you started to date, he was not really someone that you could call “lovely”. Or at least not when the group was there. Of course, he was enjoying time with you but not too far.
You were with all the members at the arcade game. They got a free day. Jongho asked you to come with them since you had a day off too. “Y/N! You are cheating!” Shouted San as you were playing basketball with him. “How I can cheat with this game, San? You are just a loser!” you giggled. San hates to lose. And it was worse when he loses against you. As you were waiting for your turn, you hugged the back of your boyfriend who were talking with Yunho. You sent him tense a bit.  The fact he doesn’t like to be flirty near his hyungs was funny to you. They told him many times that they didn’t care but still. You heard San yelled that he ruined your score. You went back to him, decided to take your revenge. As always, you won. San would be pouty and go to Wooyoung. You loved how these guys were clingy to each other. Jongho came to you, few seconds later. You smiled at him, but you saw that he was mad. “Are you okay Jongho?” asked confused. “Can we talk few minutes?” he started, grabbing your wrist, “Alone”. It’s serious, you thought. The boys didn’t notice the situation. Jongho made his way to the little garden, still grabbing your wrist, a bit too strong for you. He doesn’t know how to contain his strength sometime. “What’s happening Jongho?” you asked worried. “Can you stop doing all your flirty things when my Hyungs are around?” You blinked. Flirty things? You couldn’t barely remember what you’ve done. “Are you talking about the back hug I gave you twenty minutes ago?” you sounded sarcastic. He scoffed, “Yes! That was awkward! In front of Yunho-hyung.” You crossed your arms on your chest, trying to calm down. “Jongho, you need to stop with these awkward things. It’s just hugs.” He sighed, “for you maybe.” “Yes, and we are not making out in front of them so stop!” He couldn’t believe his ears. “Why do you need to be so selfish? Always thinking about you?” Were you selfish? You just wanted to have a good time with your boyfriend and his team. You wanted to reply but he cut you off “I wish sometimes that I didn’t fell in love with you! Especially when you are like that!” Your eyes went wide. Did he really just say that? To you? “Then I will help to realize your wish. Bye Jongho.” You left him alone in the garden. Rushing inside to take your bag and your jacket. You didn’t answer to the boys when they called you and asked you what was happening. You just wanted to cry peacefully at home. Without being annoying to anyone.

5 underrated Richard Donner movies you need to see
https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
Richard Donner will forever be remembered as the filmmaker who created the blueprint for the modern superhero blockbuster with 1978’s Superman starring Christopher Reeve.
Yet that doesn’t tell even half the story of the Bronx-born filmmaker’s brilliant filmography.
Donner was in his late 40s by the time Superman came along, having made a name for himself in Hollywood two years earlier, with 1976’s suitably terrifying The Omen.
Prior to that, he was a budding director making the transition from the small screen to the world of cinema. Donner worked on everything from Gilligan’s Island to The Twilight Zone. Even then, it was clear he was destined for bigger things though, as anyone who saw  “Nightmare at 20,000 Feet”, the iconic episode of The Twilight Zone he directed, starring William Shatner, can attest.
While a disagreement with producers ultimately saw him walk away from Superman II, the 1980s saw Donner establish himself as an incredibly versatile big budget director capable of handling everything from the epic family adventure fun of The Goonies to the balancing act of action and comedy found within the buddy cop antics of Lethal Weapon.
It was a skillset that drew admiration from the very best in the movie industry, including Steven Spielberg who was among the first to pay tribute to Donner after learning he had passed away, aged 91.
“Dick had such a powerful command of his movies, and was so gifted across so many genres,” Spielberg, who worked with Donner on The Goonies, said.
“Being in his circle was akin to hanging out with your favourite coach, smartest professor, fiercest motivator, most endearing friend, staunchest ally, and – of course – the greatest Goonie of all.”
Donner may not have had the same impact in the 1990s and early 2000s but he still enjoyed major success with the Lethal Weapon franchise and as a producer with movies like Free Willy and X-Men.
More importantly, the other films he made during that period and in the years between some of his biggest hits remain well worth revisiting or seeking out for the first time – starting with these five.
Ladyhawke
Coming hot on the heels of The Goonies and two years prior to Lethal Weapon, Ladyhawke represented another major departure for Donner. A dark medieval fantasy, it centred on Rutger Hauer’s mysterious Captain Etienne Navarre and his female companion Lady Isabeau (Michelle Pfeiffer), a pair of star-crossed lovers on the run from a vengeful bishop who has placed a demonic curse on their heads. While Navarre transforms into a wolf by night, Isabeau exists as a Hawk by day. Teaming up with petty thief Philippe Gaston (Matthew Broderick) they embark on a quest to overthrow the evil bishop and break the spell.
Something of a passion project, Donner had attempted to get Ladyhawke off the ground several times before finally getting the green light from Warner Bros and 20th Century Fox in the mid ’80s. The film then suffered another setback when Kurt Russell, originally cast as Navarre, dropped out during rehearsals.
That ultimately proved a blessing in disguise with Hauer going on to deliver arguably his best performance since Blade Runner. Not everything about Ladyhawke works – Broderick’s character feels a little too close to Ferris Bueller while the runtime could be trimmed down – but it remains a beautifully realised fantasy epic, full of memorable action set pieces, stunning cinematography and a spellbinding turn from Pfeiffer.
A box office bomb upon release, Ladyhawke has stood the test of time too, garnering a cult following as an authentic and fresh take on the sword and sorcery formula.
Maverick
Maverick is the film Will Smith must have hoped Wild Wild West would be; a funny, clever action comedy based on a classic TV show. Coming in an era when most westerns were deadly serious, Donner’s film also felt like a breath of fresh air and benefited hugely from a masterful William Goldman script that was both witty and unpredictable.
The latest in a series of films featuring Donner’s muse-of-sorts, Mel Gibson, this time out Mel plays Bret Maverick, a brilliant card player and equally impressive con artist trying to collect enough money to earn a seat at a high-stakes poker game. Along the way he is forced to contend with a fellow scammer in the form of Jodie Foster’s Annabelle Bransford as well as lawman Marshal Zane Cooper, played by James Garner, who starred in the original TV series.
While the glut of cameos from country music stars and the likes of Danny Glover can be a little distracting, there’s something wonderfully charming about Maverick with Gibson, Foster and Garner all on top form and boasting an undeniable chemistry that helps keep things entertaining.
The climactic poker game which sees Maverick face off against Alfred Molina’s psychopathic Angel is also expertly handled by Donner, who cranks up the tension as Maverick reveals his final, decisive, hand with a slow-motion toss of the final card towards the camera. A critical and financial success, Maverick has been largely lost in the shuffle since its release but should be sought out.
Conspiracy Theory
There’s something strangely prescient about Conspiracy Theory given the current predilection for such thinking on the internet at large. One of Donner’s most inventive and intelligent outings alongside Gibson, this time out Mel plays Jerry Fletcher, a New York City cab driver with a penchant for paranoid conspiracy theories.
Jerry’s life takes a turn for the strange when he finds himself being targeted by a set of shady government goons led by Patrick Stewart’s Dr Jonas. He quickly realises one of the conspiracies he has been promoting in his weekly newsletter (this was the ‘90s) is based more in reality than he thought. The question is: which one?
An engrossing thriller featuring Donner’s trademark dashes of witty humour, Conspiracy Theory is bolstered significantly by the presence of the ever-reliable Julia Roberts as a government lawyer with a soft spot for Jerry. Despite a lengthy run time, Donner also keeps the action moving along at an engaging pace while Gibson’s performance is just the right side of manic to keep you rooting for him.
A first foray into the kind of deep state conspiracy thrillers that were commonplace in Hollywood at the time, the film also boasts some genuinely striking moments, not least the sequence where Jerry undergoes “psychotic testing” at the hands of Dr Jonas, which wouldn’t have looked out of place in A Clockwork Orange.
Though it was a hit with audiences, Conspiracy Theory earned mixed reviews but appears increasingly worthy of reappraisal.
Timeline
Some movies are big, dumb but lots of fun. Timeline sits firmly in that category despite what many naysayers would have you believe. It’s a brash, simplistic sci-fi flick to rival the likes of The Core and Geostorm and thoroughly entertaining to boot.
The fact that it features Gerard Butler, as well as the late, great, Paul Walker only adds to that sentiment.
Walker plays Chris Johnston who, along with Butler’s Andre Marek and a team of fellow archaeologists travel back in time through a wormhole to 14th century France to rescue their professor, Dr Edward Johnston (Billy Connolly), who just happens to be Walker’s character’s dad too.
Based on a book by Michael Crichton, Donner had been in the running to direct Jurassic Park a decade earlier and jumped at the chance to adapt Timeline for the big screen. While filming went off without a hitch, Donner repeatedly clashed with Paramount Pictures in post-production and was forced to re-cut the film three times in a development that saw the release date pushed by nearly a year. The resulting edit did not sit well with Crichton either, who disliked it so intensely he stopped licensing his work for a few years after.
Whether Donner’s original cut would have earned better reviews or Crichton’s approval remains to be seen but what remains of Timeline is still a well shot, enjoyable sci-fi yarn with some neat medieval action flourishes.
16 Blocks
Donner’s final film also ranks among his most unappreciated. On the surface, 16 Blocks sounds like the perfect fodder for a game of buddy cop movie bingo.
It stars Bruce Willis as Jack Mosley, a worn-out NYPD Detective with a drinking problem tasked with transporting Mos Def’s trial witness Eddie Bunker to court. Problems arise when some of Jack’s fellow officers arrive to kill Eddie and prevent him from testifying. Eager for redemption, Jack decides to take the would-be assassins on and get Eddie to court on time.
A formulaic enough premise, 16 Blocks is emboldened by the fact it plays out in real-time with Eddie required at the courthouse by no later than 10am. In this sense, Donner found himself in new territory with an action thriller that thrives on a unique sense of urgency.
While the filmmaker is no stranger to the action formula, this setup sees him imbue events with a renewed sense of chaos, as Jack and Eddie fight their way through armed adversaries, busy crowds and bustling traffic, all against a cacophony of shouts, car horns and gun blasts.
Ostensibly a chase movie on foot rather than four wheels, the action traverses 16 blocks in 118 minutes and rarely lets up for a second with Donner proving a dab hand at balancing the action with the engaging back-and-forth between Willis and Def who are both understated yet effective throughout.
cnx.cmd.push(function() { cnx({ playerId: "106e33c0-3911-473c-b599-b1426db57530", }).render("0270c398a82f44f49c23c16122516796"); });
Throw in the ever-watchable David Morse as the leader of the shady cops baying for Eddie’s blood and you have arguably one of the most underrated action thrillers of the early 2000s
