Chapter 2: School
Enjoy a riveting tale of romance, suspense, adventure, and self-discovery as Hunter finds his path after the events of TBB. Rated PG-13 for some mild suspense, suggestive talk, alcohol and drug use, and adult themes. Banner and dividers by @pinkiemme ~ Master List ~ Previous Chapter
Chapter 2: School (Word Count: 2.7k)
Hunter winced, one hand on his shoulder as he moved his arm in a circle, trying to work out the sore spot from the morning’s wrestle with an angry bruallki that had apparently only feigned death from his shot. He’d had time to hunt, spend a few hours in his shop, and get cleaned up before heading up the hill to Omega’s school. It was a plain rectangular building on top of a grassy plain that housed students from the youngest grade levels up to young adults within its brick walls, but the island wasn’t too populated so the classes usually consisted of about 10 to 15 students each. He opened the door to the office, shifting his bag on his other shoulder as the attendance clerk looked up at him brightly.
After checking in, Hunter was free to walk the halls in search of Omega, who was late in meeting him at their usual spot in front of the school. It wasn’t unheard of — she was usually either caught up in conversation with one of the staff members she’d taken a liking to or lost in thought from diving into one of her assignments as soon as she could. True to form, Hunter soon found her in the back of the administrative wing, in a little corner office that was full of dark wooden furniture. There were a few small, warm lamps, and there was Omega, relaxing in a cozy chair in front of a plain desk with a chiseled nameplate sitting on its corner: Lyra Vetana, Records Clerk.
The woman behind the desk looked to be a bit older than him, or what Hunter assumed it looked like for nat-borns, with long brown hair that was mostly straight, a somewhat angular jaw, and smile lines around her mouth and eyes. She was currently nodding slowly at whatever Omega was sharing, and as Hunter approached, he caught her attention, her gaze soon followed by Omega’s, who piped up immediately.
“Oh hey Hunter! Sorry I’m late. Lyra was just sharing about what past students have done during their apprenticeship year. She’s got a bunch of great ideas!”
“Yeah?” Hunter answered, shifting his focus to Lyra, who shook her head with a small smile.
“Just what the kids have come up with,” she corrected, straightening a random pile of papers off to the side. “But I apologize for holding you up.” Her voice was smooth, with just a little bit of husky texture that made it imperfectly pleasant, and it matched her humble and unassuming demeanor. Hunter could see why Omega appreciated her company; she had a steady, soothing presence, although it seemed somewhat flat.
“It’s alright, just got some work to do before dinner,” Omega reassured her, rising to her feet and pulling her backpack out of the chair beside her. “Which I bet is steak again, right?” She aimed the question at Hunter, who exhaled through his nose as he tilted his head at her.
“Look, you should be happy that I can cook anything at all, you know…”
“I’m just kidding,” Omega said, patting his shoulder as though she were the parent. “You’re doing great, and you’ve come so far!” Hunter resisted the urge to roll his eyes, although her words carried some weight, and he caught what looked like a condescending smile on Lyra’s face.
“I make salad too…” he grumbled, and Lyra turned a laugh into a cough so quickly it made him second guess what he’d heard, squinting at her as she turned to move that same stack of papers all of a sudden.
“Shoot! I need my interview journal; I left it in my locker. Be right back, and then we can go!” Omega announced, trotting out the door to leave Hunter standing awkwardly in front of where Lyra was seated at her desk. But then he realized a potential solution to an argument he’d had that morning with Omega.
“Hey, quick question…” he began, looking over his shoulder before dropping into one of the chairs in front of Lyra’s desk. “I… ah… Omega’s very special, and… I know it’s real safe here and all, but… We’re still new, and I just want to make sure… she’s alright… you know. And I know she comes to talk to you often, and you have been here at the school for a while…” He rummaged in his small sling bag for a moment, finding it hard to meet Lyra’s curious gaze.
He found what he was looking for and held it up for her to see. It looked like it could have been a large button from a piece of clothing, but upon closer inspection one could see that it was a different kind of button — a small metal cylinder that could be flipped open with a raised round part to press inside. “Would you do me a favor and hang onto this? It’s… it’s an emergency beacon, and if anything ever happens, you press it and we can be here immediately. Omega refused to keep it on her, but… I just…”
Lyra regarded it, and him, with an unreadable expression, brow furrowing for a moment before relaxing. She held out her hand, inviting Hunter to give it to her, but he paused.
“Look, I know it seems paranoid, or overly protective, but there’s a lot that I just can’t explain, and I know you’ll probably never have to use it, but it would just make me feel better if—“
“I get it,” Lyra interrupted reassuringly, giving him a small, serious nod as she beckoned for him to place it in her palm. He felt a disproportionate cascade of relief; maybe he’d built this up more than necessary in his head, but he appreciated knowing there were extra safety measures in place. “I don’t see her all the time, but if there’s ever an emergency, I’ll let you and her mom know.”
“No mom,” Hunter shook his head, “Just me.”
“Oh, sorry— you said ‘we’ could be here right away, so I just thought—“
“Yeah,” he chuckled, “Me and our brothers.”
“Got it,” Lyra said quietly, closing her fingers around both the button and a million unasked questions.
“Thanks,” Hunter said, nodding in finality before rising to his feet. He leaned out the doorway, peering down the hall and still finding no sign of Omega, then returned to his post just inside the door, shifting awkwardly from one foot to the other. He was still getting used to the social situations outside of war, and truth be told, he sometimes missed the rushed simplicity of mission after life-threatening mission. Casting a glance back to Lyra, he was somewhat relieved to find that she’d pulled some other files out of a folder and was tapping away at her keyboard. He couldn’t get a read on her… was she dismissive? Standoffish? Content? Or just didn’t feel the need to force conversation?
“So ah, what is it you do here again?” he asked, the words flowing without his permission. He cringed inwardly, hating the complexity of civilian life at times, but Lyra paused her typing and met his gaze with a patient warmth that lessened his anxious overthinking.
“I’m a records clerk, which means I have the great esteem and honor of filing away every transcript, work study application, apprenticeship offer, accommodations meeting notes, and so on. Basically, if it happens here, I record it here. And if people need any data from the archives, I’m the one to find it for them,” she answered, poking fun at the seeming unimportance of her job without the full cynicism of one who legitimately resented their duties.
“Sounds peaceful,” was all that Hunter could think to say, and his estimation was met with a slow nod.
“It is,” Lyra agreed, the faintest smile touching her thoughtful expression. “And you? What keeps you busy on the island?”
“I’m a hunter, ironically enough,” he answered, smirking dryly. “And a butcher. I have a meat shop down in The Cobbles,” he continued, referring to the part of town just above the beaches that was the notorious center for businesses, restaurants, galleries, and city government offices.
“Ahh,” came the enlightened realization. “Yes. I’ve heard of it from other staff members here.” Hunter wondered what else she’d heard, but judging by any response he could sense, there was nothing more to it. “Not a lot of imports on the island, so everything you sell is from here?”
“Freshly blasted daily,” Hunter said with a mock chipperness that made them both snort. There was something about her that he couldn’t quite figure out, whether she was genuinely enjoying the conversation or just tolerating it, whether she had more to say or was simply killing the time they were forced to interact. But he supposed it didn’t matter much, and as they fell silent again, Hunter could hear familiar footsteps approaching.
“Well, I appreciate you being here for Omega… and all the other kids,” he said quietly, and he caught a wistfulness on her face before it disappeared instantly. Lyra smiled and nodded demurely, brightening up when she saw Omega in the doorway.
“Ready?” the girl asked Hunter, beaming back and forth between him and Lyra.
“Ready,” he echoed, giving Lyra a polite dip of the head before taking his leave.

The house that Hunter and Omega shared was not far from Tech and Phee’s, sitting on the side of the hills that stretched up from the beaches in rugged terrain peppered with large boulders and cliffs. The island had an interesting layout – large, flat beaches wrapping around the entire coast, then The Cobbles, an aptly-named cobblestoned street with storefronts spaced out neatly on both sides, punctuated by a few older residences, a small garden, and some town governance buildings. The entire island was fairly cut off from most everything else in the galaxy, with very few trade connections, resulting in a harmonious self-sufficiency where each person specialized and contributed to the overall good through commerce or direct trade. The business area was the one main street that stretched in a gentle upward slope from the beach to the cliffs, where it stopped abruptly.
The island topography continued to rise from there, slowly but steadily, with houses peppered across the hills above The Cobbles. There were trees and meadows scattered across the land, and the majority of the population lived on the western side of the island in small homes or flat, layered apartment buildings that were spread out above the business district. The apartment complexes huddled together around the Town Square, a large, open area full of string lights, street vendors, food carts, and an endless array of farmer’s markets, cultural events, musical performances, and so on. Single-family homes were spaced out more along the walking paths that snaked up and down the island, nestled among trees and hills.
A few were tucked further into The Forest, which covered the eastern side of the island in a rugged, dense landscape full of trees and rivers. It was virtually unpopulated save for the houses on its western edge. Near the top of the island, above the layers of homes, lay a large, grassy meadow that stretched out in soothingly gentle slopes. A few ranches had settled around it, utilizing the perfect supply of everything they needed to raise agriculture, and off to one corner of the space sat the school. The highest point of the island was a small mountain upon which they’d built an observatory, although it was chronically out of order. Life on Xylo was a cozy, quiet way, punctuated with whatever creativity the locals could concoct. There were a few other populated islands on the planet as well, each having its own specialty and unique feel.
Hunter brushed his hands on his apron, the soothing bumps of embroidery warming his heart as he remembered Omega’s beaming face when she’d gifted it to him. It was the initial product of her first job shadow, and she’d chosen a plain gray fabric on which to hand-sew her best attempt at two large 9s in Aurebesh as well as a rudimentary copy of Hunter’s half-skull tattoo.
The meat sizzled in the pan as he turned it, spattering hot grease in response to his prodding. He’d added some herbs this time, filling the entire house with the mouthwatering scent of perfectly-balanced flavors. Omega was chopping vegetables on the wood block next to him, chattering happily about the amazing variety of local produce that was supposed to be available at the next farmer’s market.
It had been a hard decision when they settled on the island of whether to live together as they always had or to try to branch out into their own spaces. Phee had commandeered Tech into a home of their own, Echo was interested in the communal setup of one of the small neighborhoods, and Crosshair had found a peaceful home with Batcher in the same area, leaving Wrecker and Hunter staring awkwardly at each other. It had worked out quite well, however, as Hunter had found a cozy house in a small clearing surrounded by trees that also included a comically small additional unit across the tiny meadow that was a perfect fit for Wrecker in every way except his size. But the brawny clone had a knack for construction and had single-handedly remodeled the entire thing to be more suitable. The main dwelling on the property was a typical “cabin in the woods”, and with a few modifications had become a soothing place of respite for both Hunter and Omega, whose small bedrooms branched off the main room that boasted a large fireplace and plenty of wood-hewn furniture.
“This is my new favorite,” Omega said, as they dug into their dinner.
“The bacon-wrapped sirloin was the best so far,” Wrecker mumbled through a mouthful. He had a knack for showing up right at dinnertime, and his presence always filled the room with even more warmth and joviality. That, paired with the fact that he almost always trundled in with his latest catch over his shoulder, had solidified his place at the table above and beyond the fact that he was family.
“This sauce on that steak would be fun to try,” Hunter mused.
“Oh! I’ve got a trip coming up!” Omega announced, pushing her food to the side of her mouth and waving her fork excitedly.
“Yeah?” Hunter asked, tilting his head curiously. “For what?”
“Madame Dreyfus is going to take me on a purchasing run where she selects all of her base fabrics and shows me what to look for. Then she’ll show me which types are most conducive to different colors and types of dyes.”
“Sounds fun!” Wrecker exclaimed, attempting to counterbalance the trepidation he could hear in Hunter’s voice.
“Mhm,” Hunter conceded, “Where does she go for that?”
“One of the other islands; I forget the name,” Omega answered.
“Plata?” Wrecker asked, grinning at Hunter’s sharp look in his direction. He was referring to the second largest island on the planet, notorious for its vibrant nightlife and you only live once” sort of atmosphere.
“No,” Omega laughed, “One of the agricultural ones.”
“Oh. Sounds good,” Hunter said slowly. “Just you and her?”
“Us, two seamstresses, and their students!”
“I don’t know,” Wrecker said in hesitant, drawn-out syllables that made both Hunter and Omega look at him quizzically, but the thinly-veiled mischief in his eyes gave him away immediately. “I’m not sure Hunter can manage without you. How long will you be gone?” His attempt at consternation was met with a delighted giggle from the girl, who tilted her head at Hunter with a playful, motherly expression.
“You’ll have to keep an eye on him for me, Wreck,” she replied in her chipper voice. “The trip is three days long! And this whole year includes trips with our mentors, so he’s gonna have to get used to it!”
“Aaawwww, Hunter,” Wrecker fawned, “What are you gonna do?”
“I guess I’ll find a way to survive,” Hunter stated dramatically, the gleam in his eye belying his own intent. Omega’s chuckle was drowned in the boom of Wrecker’s laugh, and the three of them finished their dinners in good spirits.

From Beginner to Developer Navigating Your Path with the Right Training
Breaking into the tech industry may feel like a leap, especially if you’re starting from scratch. But the truth is that anyone with commitment, curiosity, and the right support system can become a successful web developer. With the digital economy booming and companies prioritizing online presence, web development is no longer just a niche skill—it’s a gateway to a high-growth, flexible, and creative career.
The first step in this journey? Finding the right training to guide you from beginner to job-ready developer.
Why Web Development is a Smart Career Choice
Web development roles are consistently ranked among the most in-demand jobs worldwide. What makes this field especially appealing is its mix of logic, creativity, and problem-solving. Whether you’re designing sleek front-end interfaces or building secure back-end systems, web developers are the architects of the digital age.
Benefits of a Web Development Career:
High Earning Potential: Salaries are competitive, even for entry-level roles.
Remote Work Flexibility: Many roles allow you to work from anywhere.
Constant Innovation: Always something new to learn, from frameworks to tools.
Diverse Opportunities: Work in tech, finance, healthcare, media, education, or go freelance.
What You’ll Learn on the Journey
Before you can land a job or freelance project, you’ll need to master the core technologies and workflows of modern web development.
Typical Learning Path:
Front-End Basics: HTML, CSS, and JavaScript are the building blocks of the web.
Responsive Design: Making sites work on all screen sizes using frameworks like Bootstrap or Tailwind CSS.
JavaScript Frameworks: React, Vue, or Angular for building dynamic, interactive interfaces.
Back-End Development: Learn to work with servers, databases, and APIs using Node.js, Express, or Django.
Version Control & Collaboration: Git and GitHub are essential tools for working in teams.
Deployment: Host your websites using platforms like Netlify, Vercel, or traditional cloud services like AWS.
The Power of Structured Learning
Trying to learn everything on your own can quickly become overwhelming. You may find yourself jumping between YouTube tutorials, blog posts, and forums—without knowing what to learn next or how deep to go.
That’s where a well-designed web development course becomes invaluable. A structured course offers a clear path, hands-on projects, community support, and often mentorship from experienced developers. It takes you beyond memorizing code—teaching you how to think like a developer.
Choosing the Right Training Program
Not all programs are created equal. The top web development training program for you will depend on your goals, availability, and preferred learning style. Some people prefer immersive bootcamps, while others thrive in flexible part-time or self-paced environments.
Look for programs that offer:
Real-World Projects: Build things that simulate actual developer tasks.
Instructor Support: Get your questions answered by pros.
Career Prep: Resume reviews, mock interviews, and job placement help.
Community Access: Learn and grow with peers facing the same challenges.
Real Stories: Career Switchers Who Made It
Take Amanda, for example. She worked in retail for five years, never touched a line of code—and now she’s a junior front-end developer at a SaaS company. Or Jake, a former history teacher who learned coding during evenings and weekends and now works remotely for a startup.
These stories aren't exceptions—they're becoming the norm. With the right training and consistent effort, web development is one of the most accessible career changes available today.
Final Thoughts: Your Next Steps
If you’re serious about starting a tech career, don’t wait for the “perfect” moment—it rarely comes. Start exploring training options, map out your schedule, and commit to consistent learning. You don’t need to learn everything at once; you just need to start.

Level Up Your Career with Full Stack Development Certification
In the ever-evolving tech landscape, the demand for skilled developers continues to soar, and full stack development has emerged as one of the most sought-after disciplines. As businesses increasingly rely on web applications to connect with customers and streamline operations, the need for versatile professionals who can manage both front-end and back-end development is greater than ever.
For those looking to master the art of Full Stack, enrolling in a reputable Full Stack Developer Training in Pune can provide the essential skills and knowledge needed for navigating this dynamic landscape effectively.
One effective way to enhance your career prospects in this competitive field is by obtaining a full stack development certification. In this blog, we’ll explore the benefits of certification, what to expect from a full stack development program, and how it can help you level up your career.
Why Get Certified in Full Stack Development?
Demonstrate Your Skills: A certification serves as a formal acknowledgment of your skills and knowledge in full stack development. It provides potential employers with a tangible proof of your expertise, making you a more attractive candidate for job opportunities.
Stand Out in a Competitive Job Market: With many individuals entering the tech field, having a certification can help differentiate you from other applicants. It signals to employers that you have invested time and effort into your professional development.
Build a Strong Foundation: Many certification programs offer comprehensive training that covers both front-end and back-end technologies. This structured learning approach helps you build a solid foundation and ensures you understand the essential concepts and best practices of full stack development.
Access to Networking Opportunities: Enrolling in a certification program often provides opportunities to connect with industry professionals, instructors, and fellow students. Networking can lead to valuable job referrals and collaborations, expanding your professional circle.
Boost Your Confidence: Completing a certification program can significantly enhance your confidence in your abilities. This newfound confidence can empower you to take on more challenging projects and pursue advanced positions in your career. Here’s where getting certified with the Top Full Stack Online Certification can help a lot.
What to Expect from a Full Stack Development Certification Program
Comprehensive Curriculum: A well-designed certification program typically covers a range of topics, including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, front-end frameworks (like React or Angular), back-end technologies (such as Node.js or Python), and database management (SQL and NoSQL). You’ll gain hands-on experience through real-world projects that reinforce your learning.
Mentorship and Support: Many programs offer access to mentors who can guide you throughout your learning journey. Having an experienced professional to provide feedback, answer questions, and offer advice can greatly enhance your learning experience.
Flexibility: Full stack development certification programs often come in various formats, including online, part-time, or full-time options. This flexibility allows you to choose a program that fits your schedule and learning style.
Hands-On Projects: Expect to engage in hands-on projects that simulate real-world scenarios. These projects help you apply what you’ve learned, build a portfolio, and gain experience that is highly valued by employers.
Job Placement Assistance: Many certification programs offer job placement services, helping you connect with potential employers. They may provide resume reviews, interview preparation, and access to job boards, further enhancing your chances of landing a job.
How Certification Can Propel Your Career
Career Advancement: With a full stack development certification, you’re well-equipped to pursue higher-level positions, such as software developer, web developer, or technical lead. Certification can also open doors to opportunities in specialized areas like DevOps or cloud development.
Higher Earning Potential: Certified professionals often enjoy higher salaries compared to their non-certified counterparts. Employers recognize the value of certification and are willing to offer competitive compensation for proven skills.
Job Security: The tech industry is continuously evolving, but full stack development remains a critical area. By becoming certified, you position yourself as a valuable asset, increasing your job security even in uncertain times.
Lifelong Learning: The journey doesn’t end with certification. Many programs emphasize the importance of continuous learning, encouraging you to stay updated with industry trends and advancements. This commitment to learning can further enhance your career growth.
Conclusion

Flufftober 2020: Day Three
Prompt: College/University AU
Pairing: SpicyHoney
Category: Romantic
----------
Stretch walked into his Human Cultural Studies classroom on his first day of college and nearly turned around and walked right back out again. Of course his brother had criticized him about his decision to delay college for a few years… and then a few years more, but he never imagined that he’d put off his education long enough that a childhood friend (and unrequited high school crush) would end up being his professor.
Obviously, Edge considered his education and career a priority and had focused on it immediately following their high school graduation. It didn’t surprise Stretch. He admired the goal-driven skeleton for his ambition and tenacity, the very same attributes that made scoring a date with the other skeleton extremely unlikely for a dedicated ne’er-do-well like himself. As if to underscore this fact, Edge scowled at him the moment he slouched into the classroom and sank into a seat in the back of the room.
The scowl maintained its position on Edge’s angular features as the skeleton professor prowled through the room, handing each student a hefty course syllabus. When he arrived at Stretch’s seat, the scowl transformed into a smirk. Stretch reached for the syllabus, and Edge yanked it away, holding it just out of his reach.
“NICE TO SEE THAT YOUR MODUS OPERANDI OF PROCRASTINATION AND LAZINESS HAS SUBSIDED, CARROT,” Edge said, voice pitched low so that only Stretch could hear his words. Stretch could see that Edge’s tongue was still as sharp as his cheekbones, but he loved antagonistic repartee.
“wrong as ever, Edgy McEdgelord. i intend to procrastinate lazily throughout my entire indenture as a student here until i receive a degree that i will never use as i pursue my preferred career of wasting my life entirely through inactivity,” quipped Stretch, loudly enough for the other students to overhear. Several of his classmates tittered, but Edge just gave him a slow, knowing smile.
“GOOD LUCK TRYING TO PASS MY CLASS THEN.” He slammed the syllabus down on the tabletop in front of Stretch and stalked off with his usual grace, though his usual grace involved a hip sway that Stretch couldn’t help staring at.
It was going to be a long semester.
The first near-perfect test score might have been a fluke, but the next few established a pattern that Edge couldn’t deny. He stood next to Stretch’s usual seat near the door, shuffling through mediocre and abysmal papers to present the highest score in the class to the student that he had expected to do the worst. Secretly, though, the grumpy skeleton professor was proud of Stretch for applying himself and showing off the intelligence that few knew he possessed.
“TOP SCORE AGAIN, CARROT. AT LEAST SOMEONE IN THIS CLASS IS PAYING ATTENTION.” He actually handed the paper with its marked absence of red ink to Stretch instead of tossing it down onto the table as he so often did.
“when you’re up front lecturing, i just can’t look away,” Stretch admitted honestly. His SOUL ached, feelings that he thought had been laid to rest long ago stirring again any time the professor so much as glanced his way with those dangerous red eyelights. “to be honest, though, i’m surprised you remembered me that first day. i didn’t think you ever noticed me in high school.” Stretch winced at his own babbling.
“OF COURSE I REMEMBER YOU. HOW COULD I FORGET SUCH A-” Edge closed his mouth abruptly, scrambling for a word to replace “handsome” and change the tone of the sentence “- SUCH AN UNRELENTING SLACKER.” Edge lifted the other students’ test results to cover his blush and hurried back to his own desk.
It was going to be a long semester.
By the time the course ended, the tension between the two skeletons had only gotten stronger. Edge avoided Stretch like a highly contagious plague, and Stretch’s notebook contained more sketches of his professor than lecture notes. The end of the class should’ve been the end of the awkward teacher-student interactions, but Stretch couldn’t help checking the online course list for more classes taught by his rekindled crush.
Stretch’s eyelights scoured the classroom for any sign of seating and found none. Perplexed, he watched Edge stroll into the classroom, wearing something that definitely was not his usual tailored shirt, tie, and slacks. To Stretch’s untrained fashion eye(socket), the outfit resembled pajamas- something Stretch might wear on the first day of class, but Edge would never leave his house in under normal circumstances.
Stretch hid his confusion by calling out a question as Edge strode past him. “what am i in for this semester, Edgelord? philosophy of ancient civilizations? monster-human history and politics?” Stretch had picked a more advanced course, looking for a challenge… and another chance to impress the other skeleton.
“THIS IS ADVANCED JUDO,” Edge stated flatly.
For once, Stretch had no response, and a wide smile crept across Edge’s features when he realized that he had the upper hand. Moving as swiftly as a striking cobra, Edge grabbed Stretch, spun, leaned, and tossed the slacker over his shoulder and onto the mat. Stretch laid on his back on the ground with an audible “oof,” completely stunned and just a little bit in love.
“nice pajamas,” he wheezed.
“IT’S A JUDO GI,” sniffed Edge loftily, staring down at his student. “I AM GUESSING THAT YOU SIGNED UP FOR THIS CLASS SO THAT YOU COULD SPEND YOUR TIME LOLLYGAGGING AND BEING UNCONSCIOUS ON THE FLOOR, BUT I AM HERE TO TEACH YOU. NOW GET UP.”
Edge offered Stretch his hand. Not suspecting any foul play, Stretch tried not to blush when their hands touched. Edge tugged Stretch upwards, then dropped backwards, falling to his back and using one leg to propel Stretch over his body and onto the mat behind him.
It was going to be a long semester… but Stretch kind of liked it.
The moment enrollment opened after the summer break, Stretch sat at his computer, scrolling through a list of professors to see which classes were available from Edge. He considered filling his entire semester exclusively with those classes, but he needed to work his way through the recommended curriculum if he actually wanted a degree and not just a chance to stare longingly at a handsome skeleton professor.
“is this advanced judo 2?” Stretch asked, a picture of innocence as he sank gratefully into a chair at the back of the classroom. Edge paused midway through writing a lesson outline on the whiteboard.
“NO. THIS IS PHILOSOPHY OF ANCIENT CIVILIZATIONS, THOUGH I’M NOT ABOVE PUNCTUATING MY LECTURES WITH JUDO FLIPS IF YOU’D PREFER THAT METHOD OF LEARNING.” The writing resumed.
The judo flips proved to be unnecessary; Stretch aced the course as easily as he’d aced the others. The lanky skeleton was a single semester away from an Associate’s Degree with a sterling 4.0 grade point average and the acclamation of every professor and department head that he encountered. His chosen degree entailed English credits, though, and Stretch could no longer put them off. He was pleasantly surprised to discover that Edge led the English department and handled all of the high level courses personally.
Basic English and literature classes filled quickly, but the high level classes required Edge’s personal stamp of approval for any student who dared to request them. Stretch submitted his course schedule online, and Edge invited him for an interview the very next day. This would be a one-on-one meeting in Edge’s office, and Stretch found himself uncharacteristically nervous at the thought of facing Edge alone.
Stretch knocked on the door to the English administrative office, and when Edge called for him to enter, he did so with an attempt at his trademark humor.
“is this the Doki Doki Literature Club?” he asked, stepping into Edge’s unsurprisingly spartan workspace.
“I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THAT IS,” Edge answered drily, “AND I SUGGEST YOU ACTUALLY READ YOUR COURSE DESCRIPTIONS IN THE FUTURE. NOW HAVE A SEAT, OR WOULD YOU RATHER CONDUCT OUR MEETING FROM YOUR BACK ON THE FLOOR.”
Stretch pretended to consider the offer, and Edge stood up and reached for him across the desk as if to grab him for a flip. His face moved close to Stretch’s, and without thinking, the lazybones leaned forward and kissed him.
Startled, Edge kissed back, taking far too long to shove the other skeleton away. “SUCH BEHAVIOR IS INAPPROPRIATE BETWEEN TEACHERS AND STUDENTS,” he rasped, shaken, and Stretch, face flaming with an orange blush, fled the office and the campus. Edge regretted his severity immediately, but immediately was too late.
Taking any English classes at the college would now be impossible for Stretch. The conflict of interest could cost Edge his career as a professor. Edge had rejected him anyway; seeing him on campus would hurt too much.
The counselor, unaware of Stretch’s reason for dropping out of college in his final semester, argued for him to stay. Stretch refused. Dropping out of college seemed fitting for someone with such slothful habits. The only thing he truly regretted was running away without telling Edge how he felt. Hood pulled over his lowered head, Stretch left campus for the last time…
… and bumped into someone carrying a box full of odds and ends.
“WATCH OU- CARROT?”
“professor?”
“WHY AREN’T YOU IN CLASS?”
“i dropped out. i didn’t want you to risk your job…”
“I QUIT MY JOB,” said Edge. “I DIDN’T WANT YOU TO DROP OUT IF…”
“if?”
“IF WE STARTED DATING.”
The two skeletons stared at each other. Edge had already resigned. Stretch had already dropped out. The staring continued until Stretch broke the silence.
“soooo, boyfriends then?”
Edge let out a long-suffering sigh. “YES. BOYFRIENDS.”

Soulmates? || NCT Taeyong
Premise : Maybe, just maybe, Fate never wanted us to be.
Pairing : Taeyong x Reader
Genre : angst, fluffy in the beginning
WC : 1.4 K
Warnings : mostly angsty, mentions of alcohol, implied anxiety, confronting one’s inner demons, confusing af lol
Author’s note : hope y’all get where I went with this 👁👄👁 (had to go question what was going on in my brain)

⌫ ⌫ ⌫
“Taeyong.”
“Yes, Y/N?”
“Do you… do you ever think about what other people are going through? Like, what is happening to her right now?”
Taeyong shifted his head to look at a woman who looked to be in her mid-twenties, hastily typing away at her phone screen with a little smile tugging the corners of her coral-tinted lips upward. He watched her for a little while, observing the way she giggled quietly to herself after receiving a text. After one more ping, the small, quiet smile deepened into a cute, gummy grin, promptly brushing her long bangs behind the shell of her ear with the tips of her fingers. He felt a soothing warmth wash over him as he continued to watch her little actions.
“Like, is she texting a boy she just met, knowing in her heart that he’s the one? Is she texting her best friend an extremely funny meme right now? Did she just find out that she passed the interview to get out of her shitty job as a lowly office lady, and she’s telling her husband about the big news? Or maybe, she just took a pregnancy test, and she’s texting her friend right now to discuss how she should reveal the results to her loving partner in life?”
You drawled out your inquiry as you too, observed the lady alongside Taeyong. You pulled lightly at the flimsy plastic piece connected to the end of your hoodie string, nibbling down at your chapped lips with curiosity. You felt your heart tug downward as you saw the woman’s lips draw further upward.
“I suppose so.” Taeyong answered softly, seemingly drawn towards her every movement as much as you were. You finally tore your eyes away from the subject of your deep, inner thoughts to peer at Taeyong’s side profile. And thankfully, he didn’t seem to notice for the time being.
You exhaled, tracing the smooth, but angular curves and lines of Taeyong’s ethereal face with your tired oculi. You have been blessed enough to see his face thousands of times in your bleak existence, but you never felt like it was enough to quench your undying thirst for the beauty that he truly was. Every time you allowed your orbs to grace his unearthly presence, the need to take a closer look had you reeling even further backwards than ever before.
Like all art museums politely ask of you,
You may look, but please refrain from engaging contact with the artwork.
And you were one to always follow their instructions.
“What do you think is happening to her right now, Yong?” The words slipped past your lips at the decibel of a ghost’s gentle kiss, surprising not only yourself, but your male companion as well. He redirected his head your way, a simple gesture that made your cheeks warm up with significant speed. You scooted back a little, only now realizing how close the two of you were at that moment.
Taeyong offered you a small smile, finding the situation pleasantly amusing, “Hmm, well. I personally think she’s texting a guy right now. He’s the sweet, funny guy that she has been looking for ever since she was a little girl. A guy that she will hopefully be able to bring to her parents after so many years of their endless nagging for the answer to the continuation of their family lineage.”
You nodded slowly, drawing your eyes down the length of your arm to your stretched hand that lay flat on the metal bench that you two occupied. Your head jerked harshly, ridding your mind of the thoughts that brewed upon noticing the millimeters of space that separated your fingertips from his.
“And what do you think is happening to her right now?” Taeyong countered, the softness of his voice soothing your heart like a nighttime lullaby.
“Hmm, what do I think?”
You lifted your chin, daring yourself to meet his eyes at a clean parallel. You swallowed the burning ache that rose within your throat as you maintained the intense eye contact, attempting to formulate your thoughts, which proved challenging.
“Well, I think that she found her soulmate.”
“Her soulmate?” Taeyong tilted his head cutely to the side, brows furrowing in thought. You bit down the smile that threatened to appear on your face.
“Yeah, whether the person be a potential lover, a withstanding friend, a familiar stranger, or even her everlasting enemy.”
“What do you mean?” Your companion naturally loosened his jaw, an action he did whenever he was deep-diving into the pool of thoughts that swirled within his brain.
“Exactly what I meant. No matter who that person is to her, they are a soulmate of some kind, I believe.”
Taeyong giggled, shaking his head, “You make absolutely no sense, but I guess in a weirdly twisted way, I think I get where you’re heading with this.”
“Glad you understand, my good sir.” You tilted your invisible top hat his way, enticing a fat eye roll from him.
“You’re crazy.”
“Crazy for you.”
“And a flirt.”
Your grin faltered fractionally, “Yeah, I am what I am. What ya gonna do about it?”
You jabbed your elbow into his general direction playfully, playing it off like the champ you were.
“Speaking of soulmates, though.”
Your heart dropped down to the very depths of your gut, testing out the acidic pool of stomach acid with a cute, teasing nature. You urged him onward, nodding along to the little bubu pout that plumped up his otherwise sharp cheeks.
“Do you consider me your soulmate?”
The air you inhaled hitched at the back of your throat. You couldn’t decipher whether you just swallowed a chicken bone whole or got a sucker punch to the gullet, but it didn’t matter anyways, because you were losing brain cells every passing second you refrained from properly breathing.
You blinked innocently, your pulse quickening with an accelerated velocity.
‘Do you consider me your soulmate?’
These six words bounced within your mind like the DVD paused screen logo. Is there a correct answer to this?
Of course there is, Y/N. Everyone has a soulmate, even the likes of you.
“Hmm, I don’t personally believe in soulmates.”
“B-But didn’t you just-”
“The concept of soulmates implies that someone out there is meant to be the missing piece to the incomplete puzzle that you are. The mere idea that someone was fatefully paired for you… For my life, I want to decide my own fate.”
You pondered your gaze downward, allowing your heart to swell with love for the man beside you.
“Why should I let Fate have that decision, that satisfaction, when I currently feel so empty inside?”
~~~
You could tell him that his fiancé was constantly out drinking and partying with other men whenever he was with you.
You could tell him that his fiancé constantly talks about how annoying he was when he got clingy at nighttime.
Hell, you could tell him that his fiancé looks a second too long at your friend Jaehyun whenever your little gang hangs out.
So why didn’t you tell him everything?
Why didn’t you foil the quandary that sat on your lap like a neatly wrapped package, ready to be sent at a moment's notice?
Well, Fate has a twisted way of leading your judgement and actions.
We dictate our decisions... our choices.
But do you really, Y/N?
You didn’t know the answer to that question, honestly, but what you did know for sure was that Fate played a very cruel, sick game with you, enjoying the way you longed for something, someone, that was just never fated to be yours, no matter what decisions and actions you enacted upon.
Because Fate isn’t something you decide. Fate decides your path, and you were just a chess pawn in its sick game.
Taeyong wasn’t fated to be your lover...
And now matter how many times you attempt to overcome the sickening game that Fate plays on you, you could never come out victorious. Fate wouldn’t allow you to.
You let the chilling void within you consume your soul as you watched Taeyong and his fiance snuggle on the couch at the party you were currently at. You felt like you could vomit at a moment’s notice, but there was nothing left to expel. You found your last moment’s comfort in the raging neon lights that lit the house in a crude rainbow distortion. You downed whatever liquid was in your red cup, allowing it to keep you company like an old, kind friend.
“Y/N?”
You looked up from your moral plight, allowing yourself to shed one last tear. You shook your head, your facial features contorting into the physical embodiment of eternal agony.
“Why?” You hissed, not bothering to say anything more.
Fate looked you dead in the eyes; its sweet, alluring smile not fooling you this time around.
But Fate doesn’t need to fool you, because you were only a foolish chess pawn fighting for freedom of choice, the freedom to create one’s own destiny.
“Would you like to test the simulation of Fate once again, Y/N?”
INTRODUCTION: MEET JUDE AND PALOMA
Jongin on “The Return Of Superman”
Though the day’s cold, we’re ready to meet our new superman! The house is spacious and has a modern interior. There are lots of awards and trophies, could our superman be an athlete?
Moon rubs her eyes tiredly as she descends down the stairs. The hood of Jongin’s oversized sweater casting a dark shadow over her face, hiding her from the prying cameras.
What’s this? There’s a new foreigner on the show!
She stands on the tips of her toes and moves slowly through the house. Moon greets the cameramen, crouching, in the quaint houses parked around her living room with a welcoming smile, unveiling her face to the cameras.
“Annyeonghasaeyo,” She begins. “Would you like something to drink?”
Wow! She’s so considerate of others and her Korean is great!
After passing around cups of water, Moon acclaims her post in the kitchen. She shuffles through the house with her talent for elegant silence. However, cringes at the clashes of her cutlery as she sets the dining table. She waits for a moment for a call of discomfort but when nothing comes, she lets out a sigh of relief.
She probably doesn’t want to wake her family.
Unfortunately for Moon, a shattering shriek disrupts the silence. She quickly turns off the stove, toppling the last of the pancakes on top of each other and rushes up the stairs.
Moon reaches the top floor and rushes past the cameras, reaching the last door in the hallway. She steps into the room and almost immediately flips her voice into a tone of sticky, fluff.
She makes her way to the white crib placed in the centre of the room and pouts her lips as her daughter begins to whimper. “What’s the matter Paloma?”
She stares up at Moon with tears threatening to fall from her eyes and tries desperately to grab her face. “Mommy.”
She picks Paloma and rests her head on her shoulder while patting her butt.
She’s beautiful!
Moon returns to the kitchen but this time with Paloma sat in her high chair watching her every move. She sits with her hand latched into a bowl of cheerios, kicking her legs manically.
She’s guarding mom!
She fiddles around, putting in her finishing touches before actually placing breakfast on the table.
She picks up Paloma and makes her way upstairs towards the master bedroom.
Moon slyly slides in and circles her way to Jongin’s side of the bed. She crouches down with Paloma attached to her hip and shakes Jongin’s shoulder, and gently taps Jude’s arm. Jongin stirs, stretching his feet and hesitatingly flutters his eyes open. He squints at the hue of sunlight seeping through the blinds. He blinks a couple of times and navigates his eyes to find Moon.
He grins, eyes boring into each other and with a tired hand embraces her cheek. “Morning.” He grumbles.
It’s Kim Jongin! A former member of EXO. He disappointed a lot of his fans when he announced that was married and expecting his first child!
“Good morning.” In that instant, Jude begins to wake. Her hair misplaced in irregular angles as she rises. She yawns and rubs her eyes, a frown gracing her features.
She parts her lips, her eyes readjusting to light and sits up. She immediately notices the camera set aside on the windowsill automatically zoom in at her movements. Jude squints and whirls her head around until her eyes lands on her mother’s comforting smile.
“Morning Mommy.” She greets lowly, her bubbly voice croaky.
“Morning baby. You hungry?” Moon questions.
“...yes.” Jude hums and rubs her stomach with one hand whilst the other brushes back her loose hair.
[>>>] Breakfast is served!
Jongin pecks Moon’s cheek as he pushes in his chair. He picks up his fork and digs into the pancakes soiled in syrup.
At the opposite end of the table, Jude sits almost identical to her father and stuffs her cheeks with a mouthful.
She’s just like her father!
“Is it good?” Moon asks whilst feeding Paloma. The two hum in satisfaction and show her their thumbs of approval.
Moon simpers, the skin around the corner of hers crinkling. “I’m glad you guys like it.”
“Thank you, honey.” Jongin implores, pressing his lips against her cheek once again.
“Hello, viewers. I am Jongin, a former member of the group EXO and father to three-year-old Jude and one-year-old Paloma.” Jongin pushes the bridges of his glasses with a smile on his face and bows to the camera.
“Hello, my name is Moon. I’m Jongin’s wife and mother to our two children.” Moon turns to the camera after bowing and emphasises her grace with a gentle smile.
How long have you been together?
Moon turns to Jongin and waits for him to negate the answer. He shuffles in his seat, taps his chin and looks heavenward at the ceiling as he tries to recount.
“Umm...for about five years...right?” He grasps her hand and smooths his thumb around the bedazzled wedding band propped on her ring finger.
Moon nods, a smile gracing her gentle features. “We dated for two years and been married for three years now.”
How’d you meet?
“It wasn’t intentional but we bumped into each other on the beach. I was trying to find my way back to my mom and she was with her family looking for a restaurant nearby. She’s always trying to a place to eat.” Jongin implores, chuckling at the memory.
“Stop,” Moon whines. She pinches Jongin’s arm but quickly released her grip when he began his spasm of pain.
“We didn’t see each again till four days passed when we seated together for dinner at the hotel’s restaurant.” She explained.
“She wasn’t really interested in me but I managed to gain her attention when I brought up dancing,” Moon blushes, hiding her face in his arm.
“She was a ballerina and I was a dancer. That’s where we hit it off.”
Such a loving couple!
Do people often get confused with you and your daughters?
Moon sighs and nods. Her eyes droop and a solemn look clouds her features. “At times it can be annoying, especially when people come up to Jude asking if she’s okay or if they should call the police,”
“I understand that people are confused because we look different in terms of skin colour and so on. But it gets quite frustrating when people aren’t brave enough to ask me, the adult, questions.” Jongin frowns and snakes his arm around her shoulders. He presses his lips against the top of her head.
It must be hard for Moon.
Moon was a proud replica of when black meets black. Her mother Yvonne was a proud Congolese heiress and her father Anthony, was an honourable African American. Despite inheriting her father’s bronze skin rather than her mother’s rich sepia skin tone, she had followed her maternal family tree, acclaiming the auburn, kinky hair branch and the hypnotising mercury eyed roots.
Both Jude and Paloma had small, angular, obsidian eyes. Jude inheriting Moon’s mercury eyes and Paloma inheriting Jongin’s whiskey eyes. Their long, button nose and plump, round lips were complete replicas of her mother’s. Jude’s hair was ebony and poker-straight, almost comparable to her towering height. Whilst Paloma’s, despite needing time to grow, had the (light and straight) auburn locks that followed Moon’s bloodline and her grandfather’s freckled elegance.
What do you hope to achieve on the show?
“More time,” Jongin begins. “More time with my kids. I’ve been so wrapped up with work I hadn’t been given the full time to see my children grow and experience new things with them as a father should do.”
Jongin turns to Moon, who's already staring back at him with admiration glistening in her eyes. The hold a subtle gaze until Moon pulls away, fixating her attention onto the interviewer. “I want to help my children develop more and see the outer world.”
