A little over a week ago my NJ started to leak bile and stomach acid. Also everytime I ate or drank something it leaked out and I started to threw up formula, so I knew it had migrated from my jejunum to my stomach and needed to be replaced. It happened on Saturday night so we decided to hold my feeds for a day and called my nephrologist on Monday. They had an opening on Tuesday, so I wasn’t to long without my feeds. It needed to be replaced on the endoscopy ward with a gastroscopy. I was given versed, but was still wide awake and noticed everything that happened during the endoscopy. They tried placing it through my nose instead of my mouth like last time, but the scoop was to big so it did hurt like hell.. but I’m glad they were able to place it through my nose. Hopefully this tube stays in place for a while, because I’m really disliking the placements. My blood pressure was really low during the procedure and after (70/35) the alarm went off constantly, so they almost made me stay the night.. What kind of self care is your favorite to do?

My favorite self care is washing/cleaning my face and splashing it with water and feeling my pores open up with cold air. Kinda gross but hella satisfying.

I’ve had an amazing swim clinic tonight from Olympic swimmers @idekker and @saskia_de_jonge. And even though I’m pretty tired now, I’ve had a blast. It was so nice to be able to swim again. I was so happy I was able to do this even though I was pretty tired all day, I really needed some positive energy. Doing thing like this is really helping me to get through the bad days. I’m really struggling at the moment to finish my last 4 essays of nursing school/clinicals. It just feels like they are never good enough to hand in. Ever since I became ill, the quality of my essays just aren’t the same as they were used to. I can’t live up those standards anymore after my sinus thrombosis and later IIH and having acquired brain injury. And because it feels like it’s never good enough I notice I’ll just keep pushing it forward, but never actually start them. Tomorrow and Wednesday I made myself promise to myself to finish at least one of them before I’ll go into surgery on Thursday. I have to if I want to finish nursing school by January 22nd like we’ve planned to. Being a perfectionist doesn't help either. Perfectionists tend to be harsh critics of themselves when they fail to meet their standards. I just have to keep reminding myself it is good enough and that I can do this. Last Sunday I started to have a fever, not good when you're already on iv antibiotics. I decided to wait and see if it would go away, but after an horrible night I still had a fever so I called my nephrologist. When he called I've had a 39,6C/103.3F fever, so he wanted me to go straight to the emergency room for blood work and blood cultures. My PICC line didn't have any blood return, so they had to do it by arterial puncture. I was admitted with a sepsis, because my blood pressure was only 75/25 and my heart rate was around 130. Wednesday I've had surgery to remove my infected port (originally this was to replace it, but because of the fever they only removed it), but they didn't place a new one yet. It was planned to do it next week, but they changed plans and won't do it for another 3 weeks, until they're completely sure I won't have fevers or blood cultures that are growing anything anymore for at least a week after finishing antibiotics. They also pulled my PICC line and placed a new one, just to be sure the bug wasn't on there either. They couldn't place it in one try, because my veins are so bad. I'm home now, but don't feel great. Head is pounding and I'm extremely nauseous from this new antibiotics. Also it's just a bummer that I also have to wait even longer for my shunt revision now and need an extra surgery to place my port back. Sometimes I just hate my body. When the on call nephrologist for this weekend heart I was hesitant to go home, afraid something would go wrong again, she gave me her private mobile phone number, so I can call her directly if I don't feel well or trust it.
