Il y a de ces voitures dont on se souvient et que l’on aurait voulu couvrir plus longtemps. La Toyota Venza est l’une d’elles, en ce qui me concerne. Il y a quelques années de cela, je me souviens d’avoir utilisé la Venza de la première génération en voiture d’essai. À cette époque, il y avait une petite controverse à savoir si la Venza était un VUM ou une version familiale de la berline Camry qui était très populaire à l’époque. Évidemment, moi, je préférais la voir en familiale ! À cette époque, la Venza était disponible avec la traction avant ou intégrale et, avec un quatre cylindres ou un V6. Cette version a été commercialisée de 2008 à 2017. Je me rappelle que j’avais bien apprécié ce véhicule mais que je trouvais que le design de l’emblème dans la calandre n’était pas très élégant. On aurait dit que le capot avait fondu dans la calandre.

C’est donc en octobre de l’année dernière que j’ai pu voir enfin la nouvelle mouture de la Venza lors du Festival des Essais de l’AJAC à Mosport. L’auto a tellement changé que je me demande encore pourquoi elle s’appelle vraiment Venza! J’ai donc choisi une toute nouvelle Venza Limited 2022 pour mon évaluation hebdomadaire et voici ce que j’en ai appris.

Au départ, alors que je croyais que la Venza avait conservé des dimensions semblables à l’ancien modèle, j’y ai bien vu que cette Toyota est un peu plus petite que celle qu’elle remplace. Plusieurs observateurs que j’ai rencontrés m’ont aussi demandé s’il s’agissait d’une version plus luxueuse de RAV4 ou encore de Lexus! C’est alors que j’ai appris que la nouvelle Venza est en effet basée sur le RAV4. Faut dire que sa plateforme est issue de la plus récente plateforme de Toyota qui est à la base de plusieurs véhicules de la marque dont le RAV4, la Camry, le Highlander, la Sienna et plusieurs autres dont des équivalents de Lexus.

Bien entendu, le nouveau style adopté par la Venza peut faire jaser. Certains observateurs l’ont baptisé «Goldorak» (en référence à ce robot des bandes dessinées de leur enfance) vu que les lignes sont un peu «étirées», disons! Plusieurs produits de Toyota affichent des lignes un peu futuristes ce qui peut plaire ou déplaire. C'en est surtout le cas pour l’arrière où l’on voit les feux qui se pointent hors de la carrosserie. C’est peut-être ce qui donne l’impression que la Venza est plus imposante que la RAV4…Je vous laisse en juger de vous-mêmes…

Toutefois, en 2022, la Venza ne vient qu’en un seul format. L’intérieur vaut la peine que l’on s’y attarde. Au départ, on l’aurait cru plus grand que celui du RAV4 mais, selon les chiffres publiés, il ne le serait pas. En fait, il pourrait en être plus petit. Toutefois, la première fois que je me suis glissé derrière le volant, je m’y suis senti très à l’aise.

L’écran central y est bien placé et le volant, quoique petit, est facile à tenir en main. Il contient également plusieurs commandes dont certaines sont des doublons de ce que l’on retrouve au tableau de bord. Les sièges avant sont confortables et la visibilité n’y est pas si mal mais si la lunette arrière y est passablement «couchée». Les places arrière sont bien mais on peut s’y sentir un peu à l’étroit, surtout si les passagers sont grands. Quant au coffre, celui-ci est certes plus petit que celui du RAV4 ! Mais il est facilement accessible grâce au hayon arrière.

Sur la route

Wow! Pas facile à décrire, mes impressions de conduite de la Toyota Venza. Au départ, je dirais que l’auto m’excitait. Mais au fur et à mesure où les jours se passaient, ce beau petit véhicule…ne m’impressionnait plus. Une grande partie de mes déplacements furent en conditions urbaines. Tranquilles, pu excitantes…Pour les accélérations, rien de renversant. Mes essais du point mort à 100 km/h se sont tous chiffrés autour des huit secondes. Rien pour écrire à sa mère! Les reprises, quoique bruyantes et…comment dire…élaborées, étaient bonnes, voire même rassurantes mais pas excitantes. Mais je m’arrête ici. J’ai rapidement conclu que la Venza était une belle voiture de tourisme avec un petit air de luxe. Sauf qu’elle n’avait rien de sportif. La suspension est à la fois ferme mais confortable. Le style de conduite à adopter est plus celui d’un touriste au volant. Il est certain que les amateurs de la marque vanteront sa fiabilité (pourtant, quitte à passer pour un «Toyota basher», les véhicules de la marque connaissent certaines ratées que les «bons» journalistes n’osent mentionner. Les problèmes de corrosion des connexions de la motorisation hybride des RAV4 ou les pertes de roues des nouvelles bZ4x passent sous le radar, tout comme les problèmes de rouille des châssis des camionnettes d’il y a quelques années)…En fait, malgré leur belle qualité, les Toyota sont aussi vulnérables que leurs concurrentes…Mais je n’hésiterais pas à recommander la Venza à celui ou celle qui y est intéressé! Sa tenue de route est stable et sa direction précise. Le freinage est bon mais pas extraordinaire. Toutefois, du côté «look», elle est difficile à battre! Et pour les déplacements urbains, la Venza est plutôt agile et facile à garer.

Question consommation, malgré que l’ordinateur de bord de la  Venza ait indiqué une moyenne de 5,2 litres aux 100 kilomètres, mes calculs à la pompe se sont chiffrés à…5,14!  Et ce, avec de l’essence régulière! Le prix de base de la Venza Limited est de 48 290 $. Il n’y a pas d’options pour ce véhicule. Donc tout ce que l’on peut ajouter à ce prix, ce sont des frais écologiques, 100 $ pour le climatiseur, 0,70 $ pour les filtres, 20 $ pour l’huile et 10 $ pour l’OMVIC…en plus des 1890 $ de frais de transport et préparation pour un grand total de 50 310,70 $

Recommandable la Venza? Bien sûr! Mais ce n’est pas la grande familiale du passé. C’est peut-être une belle version du RAV4…mais certes pas une sportive! Mais enfin…elle demeure recommandable!
